Abstract
The association of Fanconi's anemia (FA) and growth hormone (-gh) deficiency is not commonly reported. These children may have the typical features of the FA syndrome, or may exhibit much variability in clinical and hematological findings. In a single family, members may have FA with or without GH deficiency. The genetic basis for this heterogeneity is unknown. We describe here two siblings with FA, one of whom had dwarfism due to GH deficiency. Combined treatment with GH and androgen (oxymetholone) resulted in strikingly greater acceleration of growth than did the use of GH alone. Pancytopenia was not influenced by hormone therapy.

Abstract
Two infants whose malformations fulfilled the clinical, radiographic and pathologic criteria of campomelic syndrome, were additionally found to have features suggestive of intrauterine viral infection. The presence of hydrocephalus and hydromyelia in both neonates and focal proliferative villitis in the placenta of one suggests that intrauterine viral infection may play a role in the pathogenesis of campomelic syndrome.

Abstract
Ten cases of monosomy X and caryotype 45,X, and 24 cases of the disorder with various forms of mosaicism are reported. The diagnostic significance of particular stigmata is underlined, and the possibility stressed to demonstrate a hidden pterygium colli by declining the patient's head laterally. Moreover, several peculiarities of individual cases are shown: In three girls with mosaicism, spontaneous puberty was observed, however, in two of them, it was followed by precocious menopause at the age of 14 and 18 years, respectively. The necessity of caryotyping in growth-retarded girls with secondary amenorrhoea or with a ren arcuatus or unilateral solitary kidney is emphasized. High values of urinary gonadotropins in girls without signs of puberty or with precocious menopause, indicate the need for substitution. This therapy leads to the appearence of secondary sex phenomena and menstruation, and at the same time prevents osteoporotic changes.

Abstract
Four boys with Fanconi's anaemia and growth hormone (GH) deficiency are reported. Case 1 had isolated GH deficiency and responded to HGH and to oxandrolone treatment. Case 2, his brother, had milder haematological and dysmorphic manifestations and maintained a low-normal growth rate without treatment in spite of laboratory evidence of GH deficiency. Case 3 had multiple hypothalamopituitary defects, including deficiencies of GH, ACTH, and gonadotrophins. Case 4 had isolated GH deficiency and responded moderately well to HGH treatment. 3 of the 4 patients had bilateral cryptorchidism, 2 with increased plasma gonadotrophins, indicating primary testicular failure. We conclude that GH deficiency, isolated or combined with other hypothalamopituitary defects, and primary testicular failure with cryptorchidism are frequent but not constant features of Fanconi's anaemia.

Abstract
The effect of tolbutamide administration on insulin secretion was studied in 69 children with growth retardation. Diminished insulin secretion was found in all the patients, compared to the control group. This insulin deficit was most evident in patients with isolated, total GH deficiency and least evident in children with idiopathic short stature. Intermediate values were found in dwarfism due to isolated, partial GH deficiency. These results favour the hypothesis that hypoinsulinism contributes to the somatotropin deficiency in causing growth retardation.

Abstract
Precocious puberty has been reported as an important feature of the Silver-Russell syndrome. The present case refers to a boy entered puberty at the chronological age of 11 years and the bone age of 6 years 6/12. Criteria for precocious puberty in this syndrome are discussed by comparison with previously published cases, and it is concluded that abnormalities in clinical pubertal development are quite unusual in this syndrome.

Abstract
In abuse dwarfism the behavioral signs include some or all of the following: (1) a history of unusual eating and drinking behavior, reversible on change of domicile, such as eating from a garbage can and drinking from a toilet bowl, stealing food, alleged picky eating and rejecting food at the table, polydipsia and polyphagia, possibly alternating with vomiting and possibly also with self-starvation; (2) a history of such behavioral symptoms as enuresis, encopresis, social apathy or inertia, defiant aggressiveness, sudden tantrums, crying spasms, insomnia, eccentric sleeping and waking schedule, pain agnosia, and self-injury, all occurring only in the growth-retarding environment; (3) retarded motor development, with improvement on removal of the child from the domiclle of abuse; (4) retarded intellectual growht, reversible on change of domicile by as much as 30 to 50 IQ points; and (5) a history of pathologic family relationships, including unusual cruelty and neglect, either somatic or psychic or both.

Abstract
Skeletal Dysplasias are an important cause of short stature. Their overall frequency is unknown; their individual number exceeds 80. Prognostic and genetic counseling depend on a correct diagnosis of the specific bone dysplasia. Specific radiographic diagnoses are also needed for the meaningful interpretation of forthcoming histological, ultrastructural and biochemical studies which will help to elucidate the pathogenesis of skeletal dysplasias as prerequisite for a causal therapy.

Abstract
Reported is an atypical, severe case of Hallermann-Streiff syndrome combined with progeria, bilateral microphthalmus, cataracts, and normal chromosome count. A plea is made for study into the teratology of abnormal chemical, metabolic, and other forces that attack the early stages of the development of the human fetus and produce multiple anomalies.

Abstract
Zinc takes part in the catalytic function of many metalloenzymes. In others it plays a role in conformational stability. In zinc deficient animals protein synthesis is disturbed. Conversely zinc metabolism is influenced by protein deficiency. Zinc takes part in drug metabolism, in mobilizing vitamin A from the liver, and in a system defending the organism against free radical damage. Zinc distribution in the organism is influenced by steroid hormones and leucocytic endogenous mediators. Of the intracellular zinc only a small part is bound to metalloenzymes, most being coordinated to binding sites of nonspecific proteins. Thus the organism defends itself against conformational changes of irritable enzymes which may bind excess zinc to side chains. Zinc can protect the organism against cadmium toxicity. In the serum the smaller part of zinc is firmly bound to several specific proteins, the majority being loosely bound to albumin. Some aspects of human zinc metabolism in health and disease are reviewed. Zinc deficiency in man is rare. In Iran and Egypt a syndrome of iron and zinc deficiency associated with anaemia, hepatosplenomegaly, dwarfism, and hypogonadism is known. In wound healing and tissue repair substitution of zinc is beneficial only if a zinc deficiency exists. For purposes of long term parenteral nutrition zinc should be added to the different infusion solutions.
