Hysteroscopic hydrotubation for treatment of tubal blockage

In order to increase the effectiveness of hydrotubation, a plastic cannula was inserted into the fallopian tube under hysteroscopic control. Fifty women with tubal blockage confirmed by HSG were selected for treatment. Hydrotubation solution consisted of hydrocortisone (20 mg), gentamicin (160,000 IU) and procaine (80 mg) in 20 ml distilled water. Repeat HSG was performed. After three treatments, tubal patency (one or both tubes) was achieved in 20 women (40%), and seven pregnancies resulted within 1-18 months. Hysteroscopic hydrotubation may be an alternative treatment for tubal blockage.

[Spectrophotometric determination of micro-amounts of zinc in Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino]

1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) and Emulsifier OP have been used in the colorimetric determination of zinc in Gynostemma pentaphyllum. The results are in agreement with those of atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The method is simple, precise and rapid. The recovery is 97.8-103.7% and coefficient of variation is 1.4-4.6%.

[Studies on the assimilation of inorganic selenium by yeast]

In the process of assimilation of inorganic selenium by yeast to the organic-selenium, some rules on the relation of the kinds of culture medium, concentration of sodium selenite and methionine to the total selenium and selenomethionine content in the yeast formed have been found; and a new, accurate procedure--modified acid hydrolysis-ion exchange chromatography for determining the content of seleno-amino acid in biological materials has been established.

[Comparative study of outer envelope protein and LPS of five strains of leptospires by SDS-PAGE and 2D-PAGE]

We applied SDS-PAGE, 2D-PAGE and Western blot to analyse the outer envelopes protein and LPS of five strains of leptospires. The work would lay foundations for taxonomy, the development of vaccination regimens and the elucidation of pathogenic mechanisms. The outer envelope proteins of leptospires were analyzed by SDS-PAGE and silver staining. We found that the protein profiles of the pathogenic leptospires were basically identical. A comparison of the protein profiles of the pathogenic L. with those exhibited by two nonpathogenic L. indicated that there was no obvious relationship between these organisms and any of the L. interrogans strains examined. The quantity of 21.5 kd protein of strain 017 was greater than that of strain 601 and 156. Approximately 200, 225, 238 distinct polypeptides were detected in the strain 017, 601 and 156 in 2D-PAGE by silver staining respectively. The profiles of 2D-PAGe showed obvious differences in pI. The pI of strain 017, 601 and 156 were mainly 6.68-7.4, 6.55-6.9, 5.85-7.1 respectively. The 21.5 kd protein of strain 017 was made up of six polypeptides. Our immunoblots revealed that McAb (LB1) reacted with a 41 kd antigen, which was common to the three virulent leptospires tested. SDS-PAGE profiles of silver stained outer envelope LPS of pathogenic L. differed greatly from those of the nonpathogenic L. There was a distinct differences between strain Patoc I and 3055. Our studies showed that each of the five strains of leptospires possessed characteristic outer envelope LPS, which may be used to identify the genus, species and serovars of a strain of L.

Frequency stabilization of an AlGaAs laser diode by a Fabry-Perot interferometer locked to a laser beam frequency-locked to the D(2) line of a Cs atomic beam

An AlGaAs laser diode (slave laser) has been frequency-locked to a Fabry-Perot interferometer which is locked to a diode laser (master laser) beam frequency-locked to the D(2) line of a Cs atomic beam. Frequency-locking of the Fabry-Perot interferometer to the master laser beam frequency-locked to a resonance line of an atomic beam greatly improves its long-term frequency stability. Therefore, it substantially improves the slave laser diode frequency stability frequency-locked to it. The measured frequency stabilities show that the very high frequency stability of the D(2) line of a Cs atomic beam has been transferred to the slave laser by this frequency-locking system within 1.6 x 10(-11)(10s). This system can be used for building a network of diode lasers with high frequency stability.

A simplified technique for the short-term tissue culture of rabbit corneal cells

A technique for the short-term culture of pure populations of rabbit corneal endothelial and epithelial cells has been developed. Rabbit corneas were placed on concave agarose surfaces, treated briefly with a solution of trypsin and ethylenediamine tetracetic acid, and transferred, either epithelial cell surface or endothelial cell surface down, to microscope slide culture chambers. Within 6 to 12 h the epithelial cells or endothelial cells attached to the slide chamber surface and the cornea was removed, leaving behind a pure population of cells which spread out and grew to fill the surface of the slide chamber. This technique provides a simple and economic means for the reproducible initiation of primary cultures of rabbit corneal epithelial and endothelial cells for us in a variety of experiments.

GaAlAs laser diode frequency locked at the D(2) line of Cs atoms in an atomic beam

A GaAlAs laser diode has been locked to the D(2)transition of Cs atoms in an atomic beam. Measured frequency stabilities are 1 x 10(-10) (0.1 sec), 8.4 x 10(-12) (1 sec), 2.2 x 10(-12) (10 sec), and 7.8 x 10(-13) (100 sec). This system has been successfully applied to an optically pumped Cs-beam frequency standard.
