Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor receptor (G-CSFR) in a mouse model of colitis-associated cancer (CAC), and the roles of G-CSFR positive immune cells in the development of CAC. Methods: The C57BL/6 mouse model of CAC was established by azoxymethane and dextran sulphate sodium. Three different stages in the development of CAC, including inflammation (AD1), mild dysplasia (AD2) and adenocarcinoma (AD3) were simulated. Colon tissue was digested into single cell suspension and the expressions of G-CSF and G-CSFR were analyzed by real-time PCR and fluorescence activated cell sorter (FACS). The expressions of G-CSFR on T cell, macrophage and neutrophil were analyzed by FACS. Results: The establishment of mouse model can effectively simulate the disease progression of CAC. The results of real-time PCR detection showed that the expression level of G-CSF mRNA in AD1, AD2 and AD3 groups were 1.2, 7.3 and 18.0-fold changes of the control group, respectively. The differences between AD2, AD3 and control groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). G-CSFR mRNA levels in AD1, AD2 and AD3 groups were 1.5, 2.2 and 4.5-fold changes of the control group, respectively. The difference between AD3 and control groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). FACS showed that the percentages of CD45(+) G-CSFR(+) cells in colorectal tissues of the control group, AD1, AD2 and AD3 groups were (21.84±1.77)%, (41.48±4.15)%, (44.84±8.54)% and (57.76±1.95)%, respectively.The percentages of CD45(+) G-CSFR(+) cells in AD2 and AD3 groups were significantly higher than that of control group (P<0.05). The percentages of CD45(+) G-CSFR(+) macrophage in the colorectal tissues of the control group, AD1, AD2 and AD3 groups were (21.54±5.88)%, (47.14±5.25)%, (42.49±7.80)% and (29.25±8.24)%, respectively. The percentages of CD45(+) G-CSFR(+) T cells in these groups were (30.04±6.87)%, (29.65±8.08)%, (33.75±7.37)% and (33.32±9.85)%, respectively. The percentages of CD45(+) G-CSFR(+) granulocyte were (2.39±2.10)%, (4.05±1.56)%, (3.62±2.67)% and (2.26±0.85)%, respectively (P<0.05). The percentages of G-CSFR(+) macrophage and G-CSFR(+) T cells were significantly higher than that of G-CSFR(+) granulocyte (P<0.05). The differences between AD1 and control group, AD2 and control group, AD1 and AD2 group, AD2 and AD3 group were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions: The expression of G-CSFR is significantly up-regulated in the development of CAC. The enrichment of G-CSFR(+) macrophages in the colon tissue suggests G-CSFR(+) macrophages participate in the development of CAC.

Abstract
The improvement of ferromagnetic properties is critical for the practical application of multiferroic materials, to be exact, BiFeO₃ (BFO). Herein, we have investigated the evolution in the structure and morphology of Ho or/and Mn-doped thin films and the related diversification in ferromagnetic behavior. BFO, Bi0.95Ho0.05FeO₃ (BHFO), BiFe0.95Mn0.05O₃ (BFMO) and Bi0.95Ho0.05Fe0.95Mn0.05O₃ (BHFMO) thin films are synthesized via the conventional sol-gel method. Density, size and phase structure are crucial to optimize the ferromagnetic properties. Specifically, under the applied magnetic field of 10 kOe, BHFO and BFMO thin films can produce obvious magnetic properties during magnetization and, additionally, doping with Ho and Mn (BHFMO) can achieve better magnetic properties. This enhancement is attributed to the lattice distortions caused by the ionic sizes difference between the doping agent and the host, the generation of the new exchange interactions and the inhibition of the antiferromagnetic spiral modulated spin structure. This study provides key insights of understanding the tunable ferromagnetic properties of co-doped BFO.

Abstract
Active surveillance (AS) has emerged as the preferred management strategy for many men with prostate cancer (PC); however, insufficient longitudinal monitoring may increase the risk of poor outcomes. We sought to determine rates of patients becoming lost to follow-up (LTFU) and associated risk factors in a large AS cohort. The Michigan Urologic Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC) maintains a prospective registry of PC patients from 44 academic and community urology practices. Over a 6-yr period (2011-2017), we identified patients managed with AS. LTFU was defined as any 18-mo period where no pertinent surveillance testing was entered in the registry. With a median surveillance period of 32 mo, the estimated 2-yr LTFU-free probability calculated by Kaplan-Meier method was 90% (95% confidence interval [CI]=89-92%). Both African American race (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.77, 95% CI=1.81-4.24) and Charlson comorbidity index ≥1 (HR: 1.55, 95% CI=1.08-2.23) were independently associated with increased risk of LTFU. There was variability in rates of estimated 2-yr LTFU-free survival across MUSIC practices, ranging from 52% (95% CI=21-100%) to 99% (95% CI=97-100%), with a median of 96% (interquartile range: 94-98%), although this did not reach statistical significance (p=0.076). These data reveal opportunities for urology practices to identify systems to reduce rates of LTFU and improve the long-term safety of AS. PATIENT SUMMARY: With a median observation period of 32 mo, an estimated 10% of patients will be lost to follow-up at the 2 yr time point while on AS. African American men and generally unhealthy patients were at increased risk, and there was variability from one urology practice to another. There is ample opportunity to improve the quality of the performance of AS.

Abstract
Currently, a serious problem obstructing the large-scale clinical applications of fluorescence technique is the shallow penetration depth. Two-photon fluorescence microscopic imaging with excitation in the longer-wavelength near-infrared (NIR) region (>1100 nm) and emission in the NIR-I region (650-950 nm) is a good choice to realize deep-tissue and high-resolution imaging. Here, we report ultradeep two-photon fluorescence bioimaging with 1300 nm NIR-II excitation and NIR-I emission (peak ∼810 nm) based on a NIR aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen). The crab-shaped AIEgen possesses a planar core structure and several twisting phenyl/naphthyl rotators, affording both high fluorescence quantum yield and efficient two-photon activity. The organic AIE dots show high stability, good biocompatibility, and a large two-photon absorption cross section of 1.22 × 103 GM. Under 1300 nm NIR-II excitation, in vivo two-photon fluorescence microscopic imaging helps to reconstruct the 3D vasculature with a high spatial resolution of sub-3.5 μm beyond the white matter (>840 μm) and even to the hippocampus (>960 μm) and visualize small vessels of ∼5 μm as deep as 1065 μm in mouse brain, which is among the largest penetration depths and best spatial resolution of in vivo two-photon imaging. Rational comparison with the AIE dots manifests that two-photon imaging outperforms the one-photon mode for high-resolution deep imaging. This work will inspire more sight and insight into the development of efficient NIR fluorophores for deep-tissue biomedical imaging.

Abstract
Novel mechanisms for electromagnetic wave emission in the terahertz frequency regime emerging at the nanometer scale have recently attracted intense attention for the purpose of searching next-generation broadband THz emitters. Here, we report broadband THz emission, utilizing the interface inverse Rashba-Edelstein effect. By engineering the symmetry of the Ag/Bi Rashba interface, we demonstrate a controllable THz radiation (∼0.1-5 THz) waveform emitted from metallic Fe/Ag/Bi heterostructures following photoexcitation. We further reveal that this type of THz radiation can be selectively superimposed on the emission discovered recently due to the inverse spin Hall effect, yielding a unique film thickness dependent emission pattern. Our results thus offer new opportunities for versatile broadband THz radiation using the interface quantum effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased photoprotection by natural melanin allows for African-Americans to be less impacted by photoaging than Caucasians. However, less is known about chronological aging in this population. OBJECTIVE To create a photonumeric scale for African-Americans to evaluate chronological skin aging and to explore contributing elements to intrinsic aging. METHODS Standardized photographs of the upper inner arm were taken from 75 African-American participants. Five participants were chosen as standards to create a 9-point photonumeric scale (0 = none, 8 = most severe). The scale was utilized by three blinded dermatologists to independently rate participants' photographs. RESULTS The interrater agreements were 0.768 (95% CI: 0.671-0.834) for trial 1 and 0.725 (0.608-0.794) for trial 2. The intrarater agreements were 0.757 (0.596-0.875), 0.850 (0.771-0.903), and 0.790 (0.686-0.855) for the three raters. Averaged chronological aging scores were correlated with participants' survey responses, which revealed age as a significant predictor (r = 0.72, p < 0.001). LIMITATION Our study was limited by the sample size, although the number of study participants was similar on a investigation in Caucasians. CONCLUSION This study created the first reliable photonumeric scale for chronologic skin aging in African-Americans and found increased age and greater BMI as contributors to intrinsic skin aging phenotype in this population.

Abstract
Cardio-cerebrovascular disease is one of the three major causes of mortality in humans and constitutes a major socioeconomic burden. Carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) is a very common lesion of the arterial walls, which leads to narrowing of the arteries, in some cases occluding them entirely, increasing the risk of cardiovascular events. The aim of the present study was to evaluate a cynomolgus monkey model of carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) induced by puncturing and scratching combined with a high-fat diet. A total of 12 cynomolgus monkeys were randomly divided into four groups: A, puncturing and scratching carotid artery intimas + high-fat diet (n=3); B, puncturing and scratching carotid artery intimas + regular diet (n=3); C, high-fat diet only (n=3); and D, regular diet only (n=3). Blood was harvested at weeks 4, 6 and 8 and plasma lipid levels were assessed. At week 8, monkeys were sacrificed and carotid arteries were harvested for hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining to observe pathological changes. The results revealed that a high-fat diet led to increased plasma lipid levels and accelerated plaque formation. Carotid color Doppler ultrasonography was performed and, along with H&E staining, revealed plaque formation in group A. In summary, the results of the present study suggest that a cynomolgus monkey model of CAS model may be successfully constructed by puncturing and scratching of the carotid artery intimas in combination with a high-fat diet.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To better describe the real-world use of active surveillance. Active surveillance is a preferred management option for low-risk prostate cancer, yet its use outside of high-volume institutions is poorly understood. We created multiple claims-based algorithms, validated them using a robust clinical registry, and applied them to Medicare claims to describe national utilization. MATERIALS AND METHODS We identified men with prostate cancer from 2012-2014 in a 100% sample of Michigan Medicare data and linked them with the Michigan Urologic Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC) registry. Using MUSIC treatment assignment as the standard, we determined the performance of 8 claims-based algorithms to identify men on active surveillance. We selected 3 algorithms (the most sensitive, the most specific, and a balanced algorithm incorporating age and comorbidity) and applied them to a 20% national Medicare sample to describe national trends. RESULTS We identified 1186 men with incident prostate cancer and completely linked data. Eight algorithms were tested with sensitivity ranging from 23.5% to 88.2% and specificity ranging from 93.5% to 99.1%. We found that the use of surveillance for men with incident prostate cancer increased from 2007 to 2014, nationally. However, among all men in the population, there was a large decrease in the rate of prostate cancer diagnosis and an increased or stable rate in the use of active surveillance, depending on the algorithm used. Less than 25% of men on active surveillance underwent a confirmatory prostate biopsy. CONCLUSION We describe the performance of claims-based algorithms to identify active surveillance.

Abstract
Ferns account for 80% of nonflowering vascular plant species and are the sister lineage of seed plants. Recent molecular phylogenetics have greatly advanced understanding of fern tree of life, but relationships among some major lineages remain unclear. To better resolve the phylogenetic relationships of ferns, we generated transcriptomes from 125 ferns and two lycophytes, with three additional public datasets, to represent all 11 orders and 85% of families of ferns. Our nuclear phylogeny provides strong supports for the monophyly of all four subclasses and nearly all orders and families, and for relationships among these lineages. The only exception is Gleicheniales, which was highly supported as being paraphyletic with Dipteridaceae sister to a clade with Gleicheniaceae + Hymenophyllales. In addition, new and strongly supported phylogenetic relationships are found for suborders and families in Polypodiales. We provide the first dated fern phylogenomic tree using many nuclear genes from a large majority of families, with an estimate for separation of the ancestors of ferns and seed plants in early Devonian at ∼400 Mya and subsequent gradual divergences of fern orders from ∼380 to 200 Mya. Moreover, the newly obtained fern phylogeny provides a framework for gene family analyses, which indicate that the vast majority of transcription factor families found in seed plants were already present in the common ancestor of extant vascular plants. In addition, fern transcription factor genes show similar duplication patterns to those in seed plants, with some showing stable copy number and others displaying independent expansions in both ferns and seed plants. This study provides a robust phylogenetic and gene family evolution framework, as well as rich molecular resources for understanding the morphological and functional evolution in ferns.

Abstract
Thermal ablation is a minimally invasive therapeutic technique that has shown remarkable potential in treating unresectable tumors. However, clinical applications have stalled, due to safety ambiguities, slow heat induction, lengthy ablation times, and post-therapeutic monitoring issues. To further improve treatment efficacy, an assortment of micromaterials (e.g., nanoparticulates of gold, silica, or iron oxide and single-walled carbon nanotubes) are under study as thermal ablative adjuncts. In recent years, the micromaterial domain has become especially interesting. In vivo and in vitro animal studies have validated the use of microspheres as embolic agents in liver tumors, in advance of radiofrequency ablation. Microcapsules and microbubbles serving as ultrasound contrast and ablation sensibilizers are strong prospects for clinical applications. This review was conducted to explore benefits of the three aforementioned microscale technologies, in conjunction with tumor thermal ablation.

Abstract
A novel IBAF system (altered conventional biological aerated filter (BAF) for intermittent aeration) was used to treat BDD anodes electrochemical oxidation gasification wastewater effluent, after which 454 pyrosequencing was applied to investigate the bacterial community of IBAF and demonstrate the relationship between dissolved oxygen (DO) and the bacterial community. The results showed that the concentration of COD, NH4+-N and NO3--N reached 55.08, 7.64 and 7.76 mg/L, respectively, in IBAF effluent because of changes in the DO concentration at 30 days after system start-up. The bacterial community results revealed that the 40 cm sample had the highest bacterial diversity. The bacterial species were approximate in total samples at phylum and family level, but the relative abundance was significantly different because of change in DO concentration. Abstract
BACKGROUND Combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy are used to treat nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Previous studies have shown that induction chemotherapy, given before radiotherapy, is beneficial in patients with local lymph node metastases. The aim of this study was to evaluate regional lymph node size in patients with NPC and the efficacy of five induction chemotherapy regimens given before radiotherapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS Between December 2007 and June 2011, 190 patients were included in this study, who had regionally advanced NPC (Stages II-IV). Five induction chemotherapy regimens were given prior to radiation: 98 patients (51.6%) received the TPF regimen (docetaxel, cisplatin, and fluorouracil); 56 patients (29.5%) received PF regimen (cisplatin and fluorouracil); 26 patients (13.7%) received the TP regimen (cisplatin and docetaxel); seven patients (3.7%) received combined nimotuzumab with TPF; three patients (1.6%) received a combination of the novel modified recombinant human endostatin (Endostar) with PF. The length and width of the regional lymph nodes were measured using neck B-mode (high-resolution grey scale) ultrasonography before chemotherapy and on the second day following completion of chemotherapy. Gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow suppression were also monitored during and after chemotherapy. RESULTS The TPF chemotherapy induction regimen resulted in an improved early response of lymph node size reduction, compared with the PF and TP chemotherapy induction regimens. The combined use of nimotuzumab with the TPF regimen improved efficacy by 15%. The combined use of Endostar improved the efficacy of the PF regimen by 56% (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS In a retrospective study in patients with NPC, different induction chemotherapy regimens had different effects on lymph node size before radiation therapy.

Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between neck circumference(NC) and umbilical artery blood flow in physiologic pregnancies. Methods One hundred and one healthy pregnant woman in the third trimester were enrolled. Anthropometric measurements and ultrasonic testing were done. Results The women with NC ≥34.7cm had a more elevated umbilical artery pulsatility index(PI) and systolic/diastolic ratio (S/D) than the women with NC <34.7cm (P<0.01). NC were positively correlated with PI(r=0.224,P=0.024) and S/D ratio(r=0.415,P=0.0001). In multivariate analysis, NC was independently associated with PI (β=0.026, P=0.016) and S/D ratio (β=0.132, P=0.0001). Conclusions Obesity has an adverse impact on feto-placetal vessels, and NC was superior to body mass index.

Abstract
Arginine methyltransferases critically regulate cellular homeostasis by modulating the functional outcome of their substrates. The protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) is an enzyme involved in growth and survival pathways promoting tumorigenesis. However, little is known about the biologic function of PRMT5 and its therapeutic potential in multiple myeloma (MM). In the present study, we identified and validated PRMT5 as a new therapeutic target in MM. PRMT5 is overexpressed in patient MM cells and associated with decreased progression-free survival and overall survival. Either genetic knockdown or pharmacological inhibition of PRMT5 with the inhibitor EPZ015666 significantly inhibited growth of both cell lines and patient MM cells. Furthermore, PRMT5 inhibition abrogated NF-κB signaling. Interestingly, mass spectrometry identified a tripartite motif-containing protein 21 TRIM21 as a new PRMT5-partner, and we delineated a TRIM21-dependent mechanism of NF-κB inhibition. Importantly, oral administration of EPZ015666 significantly decreased MM growth in a humanized murine model of MM. These data both demonstrate the oncogenic role and prognostic relevance of PRMT5 in MM pathogenesis, and provide the rationale for novel therapies targeting PRMT5 to improve patient outcome.
