Abstract
INTRODUCTION Serological markers are important in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other connective tissues diseases This study explored the clinical value of collagen triple helix repeat containing-1 (CTHRC1) and 14-3-3η protein, compared to routine markers, in the diagnosis of RA. METHODS We recruited 103 RA patients, 105 non-RA patients (osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus) and 59 healthy controls. CTHRC1, 14-3-3η, anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP), anti-mutated citrullinated vimentin antibody (anti-MCV), rheumatoid factor and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) levels were measured, and their diagnostic value for RA evaluated and compared. RESULTS All laboratory indices were elevated in RA (P < 0.05). Of these, anti-MCV had the highest sensitivity (86.4%) and anti-CCP the highest specificity (94.5%). The areas under the curve (AUC) of CTHRC1, 14-3-3η, anti-CCP, anti-MCV, rheumatoid factor and ESR were 0.84, 0.81, 0.89, 0.91, 0.85 and 0.77 respectively (all P < 0.01). Anti-CCP and anti-MCV were the most valuable in the diagnosis of RA. The combination of anti-CCP and anti-MCV had the maximum Youden index, followed by the combination of anti-CCP and 14-3-3η. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that 14-3-3η had the largest odds ratio value (95% CI) at 5.1 (2.1-12.5) for RA. CONCLUSION CTHRC1 and 14-3-3η are promising serological indicators of RA, and when combined with anti-CCP, anti-MCV and ESR, can improve the diagnosis of this disease.

Abstract
This study assesses the effects of the atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition on the N uptake and the long-term water-use efficiency of two C(3) plants (Agropyron cristatum and Leymus chinensis) and two C(4) plants (Amaranthus retroflexus and Setaria viridis) using N and C stable isotopes. In addition, this study explores the potential correlation between leaf N isotope (δ(15)N) values and leaf C isotope (δ(13)C) values. This experiment shows that the atmospheric N deposition has significant effects on the N uptake, δ(15)N and leaf N content (N(m)) of C(3) plants. As the atmospheric N deposition rises, the proportion and the amount of N absorbed from the simulated atmospheric deposition become higher, and the δ(15)N and N(m) of the two C(3) plants both also increase, suggesting that the rising atmospheric N deposition is beneficial for C(3) plants. However, C(4) plants display different patterns in their N uptake and in their variations of δ(15)N and N(m) from those of C(3) plants. C(4) plants absorb less N from the atmospheric deposition, and the leaf N(m) does not change with the elevated atmospheric N deposition. Photosynthetic pathways may account for the differences between C(3) and C(4) plants. This study also shows that atmospheric N deposition does not play a role in determining the δ(13)C and in the long-term water-use efficiency of C(3) and C(4) plants, suggesting that the long-term water-use pattern of the plants does not change with the atmospheric N input. In addition, this study does not observe any relationship between leaf δ(15)N and leaf δ(13)C in both C(3) and C(4) plants.

This paper summarized the direct effects of aniline on human health and the indirect hazards of aniline on human health through environmental pollution and discussed the future research directions of aniline-induced health hazards.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Our previous studies demonstrated that three enzymes, gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), cysteinylglycinase (CGase) and cystalysin, are required for the catabolism of glutathione to produce hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) in Treponema denticola. In this study, we examined glutathione catabolism in Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. METHODS The GGT and CGase of A. actinomycetemcomitans were determined by biological methods and GGT was characterized using a molecular biological approach. RESULTS A. actinomycetemcomitans showed GGT and CGase activity, but could not produce H(2)S from glutathione. The addition of recombinant T. denticola cystalysin, an l-cysteine desulfhydrase, to whole cells of A. actinomycetemcomitans resulted in the production of H(2)S from glutathione. Subsequently, we cloned A. actinomycetemcomitans GGT gene (ggt) and overexpressed the 63 kDa GGT protein. The recombinant A. actinomycetemcomitans GGT was purified and identified. The K(cat)/K(m) of the recombinant GGT from N-gamma-l-glutamyl-4-nitroaniline as substrate was 31/microm/min. The activity of GGT was optimum at pH 6.9-7.1 and enhanced by thiol-containing compounds. CONCLUSION The results demonstrated that A. actinomycetemcomitans had GGT and CGase activities and that the GGT was characterized. The possible role of A. actinomycetemcomitans in glutathione metabolism and H(2)S production from oral bacteria was discussed.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between visit-to-visit and short-term blood pressure variability (BPV), including systolic BPV (SBPV) and diastolic BPV (DBPV), calculated using different methods, and the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in a late, middle-aged population. Using cluster sampling, we randomly selected retired employees of the Kailuan Group who were ⩾60 years and participated in a third health examination for 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and inspection. Among the 3064 randomly selected observation subjects, 2464 were included based on the criteria. BPV was calculated using s.d., coefficient of variation (CV, s.d./Mean), variability independent of mean (VIM, s.d./Meanx) and BPV ratio (BPVR, s.d. (SBPV)/s.d. (DBPV)). Multivariate linear regression was used to analyse the correlation between estimated GFR (eGFR) and BPV calculated using different methods. The mean age of 2464 subjects was 67.4±6.1 years, with 1667 male subjects (67.7%). A total of 2104 cases were included in the visit-to-visit BPV group, and 1382 in the short-term BPV group. SBPV calculated using different methods showed statistically significant increasing trends for the SBP versus all s.d. and short-term BPVR. There was a significant, positive correlation between the visit-to-visit and short-term BPV calculated using different methods, which were all negatively correlated with eGFR (P<0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that, with correction for possible confounding factors, SBPV (24-h s.d., CV and VIM, and daytime CV and night time CV) and all DBPV demonstrated negative linear relationships with eGFR (P<0.05).

Abstract
Collisions between prolate uranium nuclei are used to study how particle production and azimuthal anisotropies depend on initial geometry in heavy-ion collisions. We report the two- and four-particle cumulants, v_{2}{2} and v_{2}{4}, for charged hadrons from U+U collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=193 GeV and Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. Nearly fully overlapping collisions are selected based on the energy deposited by spectators in zero degree calorimeters (ZDCs). Within this sample, the observed dependence of v_{2}{2} on multiplicity demonstrates that ZDC information combined with multiplicity can preferentially select different overlap configurations in U+U collisions. We also show that v_{2} vs multiplicity can be better described by models, such as gluon saturation or quark participant models, that eliminate the dependence of the multiplicity on the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions.

Abstract
AIM To develop a deep-learning model to help general dental practitioners diagnose periodontitis accurately and at an early stage. MATERIALS AND METHODS First, the panoramic radiographs (PARs) from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University were input into the convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture to establish the PAR-CNN model for healthy controls and periodontitis patients. Then, the PARs from the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were included in the second testing set to validate the effectiveness of the model with data from two centres. Heat maps were produced using a gradient-weighted class activation mapping method to visualise the regions of interest of the model. The accuracy and time required to read the PARs were compared between the model, periodontal experts, and general dental practitioners. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) were used to evaluate the performance of the model. RESULTS The AUC of the PAR-CNN model was 0.843, and the AUC of the second test set was 0.793. The heat map showed that the regions of interest predicted by the model were periodontitis bone lesions. The accuracy of the model, periodontal experts, and general dental practitioners was 0.800, 0.813, and 0.693, respectively. The time required to read each PAR by periodontal experts (6.042 ± 1.148 seconds) and general dental practitioners (13.105 ± 3.153 seconds), which was significantly longer than the time required by the model (0.027 ± 0.002 seconds). CONCLUSION The ability of the CNN model to diagnose periodontitis approached the level of periodontal experts. Deep-learning methods can assist general dental practitioners to diagnose periodontitis quickly and accurately.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fas-associated protein with death domain (FADD) is a classic adaptor protein in apoptosis. Increasing evidence has shown that FADD is also implicated in T-cell development, activation and proliferation. The role of FADD in inflammatory disorders remains largely unexplored. AIM To assess the role of FADD in inflammatory disorders. METHODS We established an experimental model of contact hypersensitivity (CHS) by using 2,4,6-trinitrochlorobenzene (TNCB) on transgenic mice expressing a dominant negative mutant of FADD (FADD-DN), RESULTS: CHS responses were clearly attenuated in FADD-DN mice compared with control mice. In the retroauricular lymph nodes, the ratio of CD8+ T cells was also decreased. CONCLUSION FADD-DN appears to play a protective role in TNCB-induced CHS reactions.

Abstract
We have designed a high efficiency organic solar cell with light trapping structure on transference cylindrical substrate. An electrical and optical simulation of the light trapping structure has been performed on the basis of finite element and transfer matrix formalism methods. Absorption spectrum, internal quantum efficiency, external quantum efficiency, maximum power output and efficiency of the organic solar cell are simulated and presented in terms of three variables: the height, diameter of the glass substrate and the thickness of the organic active layer. The efficiency of the proposed organic solar cell with light trapping structure is enhanced by a factor of 2 than the similar structure on the flat plain glass substrate. The optimum organic active layer thickness to achieve the highest efficiency is shifted from 65 to 20 nm. Finally, we have investigated the effect of light incident angle on the performance of the proposed cell structure.

Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the effect of 2-[(4-hydroxy-phenylamino)-methylene]-5,5-dimethyl-cyclohex (HPDH) on mammary carcinogenesis induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene in female Sprague Dawley rats.Methods: Among three groups of rats (50 each) used in the study, the control group was fed standard diet alone, ibuprofen group received standard diet containing 1200 mg/kg ibuprofen while HPDH group was administered standard diet containing 1200 mg/kg HPDH. The treatment was for 10 days for all the groups. All the animals received 20 mg of DMBA intragastrically by gavage. Clinical parameters for the rats were recorded weekly. Micrometer caliper was used to measure the diameter of all the tumors at the end of the experiment and tumor volume calculated. Histological evaluation was performed using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to determine the level of HPDH and ibuprofen in the serum of the animals.Results: The data revealed a significant decrease in the number of rats with mammary tumor, number of tumors/rat and tumor volume by 54, 72 and 75 %, respectively, in HPDH group compared to control group. The ibuprofen- treated rats also showed significant decrease in the number of rats with tumor, number of tumors/rat and tumor volume by 43, 55, and 59 %, respectively. Treatment of rats with HPDH increased the latency period of tumor induction significantly (p < 0.005). Abstract
Objective: To observe the association of carotid artery plaque with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events. Methods: A total of 7 017 participants who completed the carotid sonography examination between 2010 and 2011 were selected from the stroke and the elderly prospective cohort Kailuan study. The participants of stroke cohort received health examination between 2006 and 2007, and participants of elderly cohort received health examination between 2010 and 2011. All participants were divided into plaque group (3 285 cases) and without plaque group (3 732 cases) according to with or without carotid artery plaque.The all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events were compared between the 2 groups. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to identify the association of carotid artery plaque with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events. Results: (1) There were 4 297 male (61.2%) and 2 720 female (38.8%) in this cohort and participants were (58.1±11.8) years old. Age, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, rates of male, smoking, drinking, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus were higher in the plaque group than in the without plaque group, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol was lower in the plaque group than in the without plaque group (all P<0.01) at baseline. (2) During a follow-up period of (4.92±0.59) years, the incidence rates of all-cause mortality in the plaque group and without plaque group were 5.5% (180/3 285) and 1.5% (57/3 732) ,respectively (P<0.01) .The incidence rates of cardiovascular events in the plaque group and without plaque group were 3.8% (124/3 285) and 1.4% (52/3 732) , respectively (P<0.01) . (3) Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that carotid plaque was an independent risk factor of all-cause mortality (HR=1.667, 95%CI 1.160-2.395, P<0.01) and cardiovascular events (HR=1.942, 95%CI 1.312-2.876, P<0.01) after adjusting for age, sex, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, body mass index, total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, smoking, drinking, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and use of lipid-regulating drugs. Abstract
AIMS The purpose of this experiment was to study the bacterial diversity and predominance of spoilage bacteria in chicken skin at different thermal treatment temperatures (60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120°C). METHOD AND RESULTS Bacteria in chicken skin was collected, then propidium monoazide treatment to remove the DNA of dead cell, total DNA was extracted by Tiandz Bacterial DNA Kit, and investigated by high-throughput sequencing of the v3/v4 regions of the 16S rDNA gene. A total of 796 008 high-quality bacterial sequences were obtained for assessing the microbial diversity of chicken skin from seven thermal treatment group and control group. The results showed that the bacterial diversity in chicken skin at 90°C was lowest. And Acinetobacter (25·88%), Clostridium (20·70%), Bacteroides (13·93%) and Myroides (13·13%) were the main flora at 25°C; The Clostridium was dominant genus of the samples heat-treated by 60, 70, 80 and 90°C, the proportion of this genus were up to 64·86, 77·42, 52·22 and 87·30% respectively. The Bacillus was the main flora of the samples heat-treated by 100, 110 and 120°C, and the relative percentages were 39·44, 79·61 and 45·96% respectively. In addition, high-temperature-resistant Serratia was found in chicken skin. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed that the relationship between thermal treatment temperature and bacterial diversity and dominant spoilage bacteria in chicken skin, which had a strong guiding significance for the control and prediction of micro-organisms in foods. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The results of this paper could provide a theoretical basis for meat products containing chicken skin, including the safe use of chicken skin, determination of sterilization process parameters and selection of preservatives for compounding, which has strong practicality in China.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of stenting for proximal atherosclerotic extracranial vertebral artery stenosis. Methods: A total of 204 proximal atherosclerotic extracranial vertebral artery stenosis patients underwent stent implantation at Fuwai Hospital were enrolled consecutively between August 2007 and June 2014 prospectively. Medical records were collected and the clinical results were obtained through outpatient and telephone follow up. Results: (1) The patients were (64.1±7.9) years old, and 179 were male (87.7%). (2) Stent implantation was performed on 210 proximal atherosclerotic extracranial vertebral artery stenosis lesions with 210 stents (156 on the left, 54 on the right), and 6 patients received both sides stent implantations. Technical success rate was 100%(210/210). The stenosis of the lesions was decreased from (85.1±6.4) % to (6.5±3.2) % after the stent implantation (P<0.01). (3) Three (1.5%) patients experienced transient ischemic attack during the procedure, and two (1.0%) patients suffered from minor posterior circulation ischemic strokes on the 2nd and 10th day after the procedure, respectively. (4)The median follow-up was 1.5 (0.8-2.5) years. Three(1.5%) patients died (two non-vacular deaths, and the other one due to sudden cardiac death). Three (1.5%) patients developed stroke (one case ipsilateral posterior circulation stroke, and two cases unrelated area stroke). Four (2.0%) patients experienced transient ischemic attack. One patient suffered nonfatal myocardial infraction. In-stent restenosis occurred in thirty nine (19.4%) patients, of which fourteen (35.9%) patients were totally occluded and four (10.3%) patients with symptomatic restenosis. Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that the primary patency rate of the vertebral artery were 85.6%, 78.6%, 72.2% and 64.4% at 1, 2, 3 and 5 years, respectively. Conclusions: Stenting for proximal atherosclerotic extracranial vertebral artery stenosis is safe and feasible, with a good middle to long-term patency rate. However, further trials are required to validate the effective results found in this patients cohort.

Abstract
Integrin very late antigen-4 (VLA4) is induced during inflammation and can regulate monocyte migration. It has been implicated in atherogenesis, a significant concern in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The aim of this study was to define VLA4 expression in SLE monocytes. Flow cytometry, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry staining with confocal microscopy were used to evaluate VLA4 expression in SLE patients and controls. We found elevated expression of VLA4 in SLE patients with significantly increased VLA4 staining intracellularly compared to control. Exposure of control monocytes to SLE sera or immune complexes led to increased intracellular expression, and immune complexes were capable of driving redistribution of surface VLA4 to the cytoplasm. Therefore, VLA4 was found to be subject to complex regulation with SLE sera driving both RNA expression and redistribution of protein. Stimulation of SLE monocytes with a VLA4 ligand induced significant TNFα expression, confirming a functional effect. This behavior may contribute to increased atherosclerosis and monocyte infiltrates in end organs.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the characteristics of delayed hematologic response in very/severe aplastic anemia (V/SAA) patients who were treated with immunosuppressive treatment (IST) as first-line approach, and investigate the rationality of early salvage treatment in refractory patients. Methods: The data of V/SAA patients front-line treated with IST were retrospectively analyzed. Delayed response was defined as acquiring hematologic response between 6 and 12 months after 1 course of IST. The clinical as well as hematologic characteristics of the delayed responded patients were investigated. Results: Of the 533 patients, 45 (8.44%, 45/533) were delayed hematologic responders, which accounted for 29.03% (45/155) of the whole non-responders at 6 months. The quality of response in delayed responders analyzed at 12 months (χ2=62.616, P <0.001) and at the end of follow-up (χ2=6.299, P=0.043) was significantly worse than that of robust response group. There were more VSAA patients in delayed response group compared with robust response group (57.8% vs 38.3%, P=0.013), and all the baseline absolute reticulocyte (ARC) count, ARC proportion and absolute neutrophil count (ANC) were much lower than that in delayed response group. Multivariate analysis about the above 2 groups showed that the baseline ARC count <10×109/L significanty reduced the chance of hematologic response within 6 months [OR=3.641(95% CI 1.718-7.719) , P=0.001], and not any factor was found to predict delayed hematologic response in non-responders at 6 months. The 5-year overall survival of 76.50% (95% CI 71.6%-81.4%) and event free survival of 29.10%(95% CI 25.2%-33.0% ) in non-responders at 6 months, both were worse than 97.6% (95% CI 96.6%-98.6% ) and 84.0% (95% CI 81.1%-86.9% ) (P <0.001) of robust response group. Conclusion: The incidence of delayed hematologic response in V/SAA patients by IST is low. The quality of delayed response is not satisfactory and there is no effective means to predict the delayed response. It is reasonable to carry out salvage treatment as early as possible.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the life span of red blood cells (RBC) in patients with severe/very severe aplastic anemia (SAA/VSAA). Methods: Clinical data of 128 SAA/VSAA patients from November 2016 to April 2017 were retrospectively analyzed, and 13 healthy volunteers in the same period was used as normal control. The endogenous Breath Carbon Monoxide (CO) test was used to detect the life span of RBC in SAA/VSAA patients, and the effect of immunosuppressive therapy (IST) on the life span of RBC in these patients was explored. Results: The mean life span of RBC in 51 untreated SAA/VSAA patients was (50.69±21.43) d, which was significantly shorter than that in normal controls[(111.85±31.55) d](t=-6.611, P<0.001). The mean life span of RBC in 77 patients treated with IST was (87.14±39.28) d. The mean life span of RBC in complete responses (CR), hematologic response (HR) and non-response (NR) patients were (106.15±32.12) d, (92.00±38.60) d and (50.44±21.56) d, respectively. The life span of RBC in patients with HR was significantly longer than that in newly diagnosed and NR patients (t=7.430, P<0.001; t=4.846, P=0.002), which was similar to that in the normal controls (t=-1.743,P=0.085). There was no statistical significance between CR patients and the normal controls in the mean life span of RBC (t=-0.558, P=0.579). No factor affecting the RBC life span was found in univariate logistical regression analyses in the newly diagnosed SAA/VSAA patients. The serum levels of IL-2R and IL-6 were much lower in HR patients than NR patients[IL-2R: 4.3×105 U/L vs 6.5×105 U/L, z=-2.733, P=0.006; IL-6: 2.6 (2.0-17.7) ng/L vs 6.1 (2.0-14.4) ng/L, z=-2.968, P=0.003]. Of the 51 newly diagnosed patients, 38 received IST and their 3-month curative effect was evaluated. Receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curve was used to analyze the predictive effect of RBC life span of untreated patients on the efficacy of IST before treatment. The cut-off point was 60 days with sensitivity of 37.5% and specificity of 86.4%. In 9 cases with life span of RBC>60 d before IST, 6 cases acquired HR, while in 29 cases with life span of RBC ≤ 60 d before IST, 10 cases acquired HR, the difference was not statistically significant (P=0.128). Conclusion: The life span of RBC in SAA/VSAA patients was shortened, which can be improved even recovered to the normal after IST. Elevated cytokines might play a role in the pathophysiology of the shortened RBC life span in SAA/VSAA.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between postprocedural D-dimer, high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C) and outcomes of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients treated by percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI), in order to clarify the impacts of thrombotic, inflammatory and cholesterol risks on long-term prognosis. Methods: Patients with AMI who underwent emergency PCI from January 2010 to June 2017 in Fuwai Hospital with complete baseline data were enrolled. Patients were stratified into four groups according to quartiles of D-dimer, hs-CRP and LCL-C. Cox regression was used to analyze the relationship between these biomarkers and prognosis. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) was used to characterize the continuous association between risk of all-cause death and biomarkers. The primary outcome was all-cause death. Results: A total of 3 614 patients were included in the analysis. The age was (59.2±12.0) years old, and 2 845 (78.7%) were male and 3 161 (87.5%) patients were diagnosed as ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. The follow-up time was 652 (414, 1 880) days. Survival analysis showed that postprocedural D-dimer and hs-CRP were significantly associated with all-cause mortality (all P<0.05). Cox regression with multiple adjustments showed that patients with D-dimer≥580 μg/L presented higher risk of all-cause death (HR=2.03, 95%CI 1.22-3.38, P=0.006), compared to patients with D-dimer<220 μg/L. RCS analysis showed that risk of all-cause death was stably high when D-dimer reached 500 μg/L. Multivariable Cox regression also showed that patients with hs-CRP<2.74 mg/L (HR=1.86, 95%CI 1.10-3.15, P=0.020)or hs-CRP≥11.99 mg/L (HR=2.14, 95%CI 1.35-3.40, P=0.001) presented higher mortality compared to patients whose hs-CRP was 2.74-7.18 mg/L. RCS analysis indicated a J-shaped relation between hs-CRP and mortality, as greater risk of death was observed when hs-CRP was lower than 2 mg/L or higher than 10 mg/L. LDL-C was not associated with outcomes (all P>0.05). Conclusions: Postprocedural D-dimer is significantly associated with long-term prognosis of AMI patients treated by PCI. Patients with extremely high or low levels of hs-CRP presents worse outcomes. Intensive and tailored antithrombotic or anti-inflammatory therapies should be considered for patients with increased thrombotic risk and those with extremely high or low inflammatory risk.

Abstract
1. Tumour necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 3 (TRAF3) is a key regulator of innate immunity and acquired immunity, and has a salient anti-viral role. 2. In this experiment, the duck TRAF3 (DuTRAF3) gene was cloned according to the Anas platyrhynchos TRAF3 sequence to explore its function. The TRAF3 open reading frame contains 1704 bp that encode a protein of 567 amino acids, which contain a RING finger domain, two zinc finger motifs, a coiled-coil region, and a MATH domain. 3. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction showed that DuTRAF3 was expressed in all the examined tissues, with a comparatively higher expression in the spleen and brain tissues. 4. In HEK293T cells, DuTRAF3 overexpression resulted in a significantly increased NF-κB activity and interferon (IFN)-β promoter activation. 5. Following resiquimod (R848) and poly(I:C) stimulation of duck peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), the expressions of TRAF3 and IFN-β were significantly upregulated; in addition, following R848 stimulation, the mRNA levels of IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10 were also significantly upregulated. After infection with the Newcastle Disease Virus LaSota vaccine strain, the mRNA levels of IL-6 and IL-10 were significantly upregulated, while that of TRAF3 was downregulated. 6. These results suggest that DuTRAF3 has an important role to play in innate antiviral immune responses.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between the eosin-5'-maleimide (EMA) binding test and the clinical severity of hereditary spherocytosis (HS). Methods: A total of 258 un-splenectomize HS patients were consecutively enrolled. Correlation of hemoglobin concentration, hemolytic parameters, compensating erythropoiesis and the EMA binding test were evaluated. Results: 258 (128 male and 130 female) patients were included in this study, including 91 compensatory hemolysis patients, 53 patients with mild anemia, 78 patients with moderate anemia and 36 patients with severe anemia. The median age at diagnosis was 23 (2-70) years. The median decreased fluorescence intensity of EMA binding test was 29.97% (16.09%-47.34%) and the average intensity was (29.70±6.28) % of 258 HS patients. The decreased EMA binding fluorescence intensity correlated with MCV (r=-0.343, P<0.001) and MCHC (r=0.223, P<0.001). There was no relationship between EMA fluorescence intensity and absolute reticulocyte count (r=0.080, P=0.198) , reticulocyte percentile (r=-0.015, P=0.813) , IBIL levels (r=-0.009, P=0.902) , HGB levels (r=-0.067, P=0.280). Evaluated as a quartile variable, EMA fluorescence intensity was not correlated with anemia severity (C=0.150, P=0.746). Conclusion: EMA binding test does not related to anemia levels and has no major clinical implications for disease severity in HS.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction
The residual SYNTAX score (rSS) as the SYNTAX remaining after completion of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was proved to be related to poor outcomes.
Purpose
This study aimed to investigate the association of culprit-plaque morphology with rSS and the predictive value of rSS for major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Methods
A total of 274 STEMI patients undergoing preintervention optical coherence tomography examination were included and divided into 3 groups – rSS=0 (n=72), 0<rss≤8>8 (n=68). Baseline clinical data and culprit-plaque characteristics were compared. MACE was defined as the composite of all-cause death, recurrence of myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and unplanned revascularization of any coronary artery.
Results
There was a significant difference in the prevalence of plaque ruptures, lipid-rich plaques, and calcification among the three groups (plaque rupture: 44.4% versus 59.0% versus 64.7%, lowest to highest rSS, p=0.04; lipid-rich plaque: 40.3% versus 54.5% versus 69.1%, lowest to highest rSS, p=0.003; calcification: 38.9% versus 52.5% versus 61.8%, lowest to highest rSS, p=0.024). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that rSS>8 was an independent predictor for plaque rupture (OR: 2.21, 95% CI: 1.19–4.19, P=0.013). During a mean follow-up of 2.2 years, MACE occurred in 47 (17.2%) patients. In fully adjusted analyses, rSS was independently associated with MACE (HR: 1.06, 95% CI: 1.02–1.10, P=0.005); patients with rSS >8 had higher MACE risk compared to rSS=0 (HR: 2.68, 95% CI: 1.11–6.5, P=0.029).
Conclusion
In STEMI patients, culprit-plaque morphology was significantly correlated with rSS, and elevated rSS was independently associated with cardiovascular risk.</rss≤8>
