Abstract
The XENON100 experiment, in operation at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy, is designed to search for dark matter weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) scattering off 62 kg of liquid xenon in an ultralow background dual-phase time projection chamber. In this Letter, we present first dark matter results from the analysis of 11.17 live days of nonblind data, acquired in October and November 2009. In the selected fiducial target of 40 kg, and within the predefined signal region, we observe no events and hence exclude spin-independent WIMP-nucleon elastic scattering cross sections above 3.4 × 10⁻⁴⁴ cm² for 55 GeV/c² WIMPs at 90% confidence level. Below 20 GeV/c², this result constrains the interpretation of the CoGeNT and DAMA signals as being due to spin-independent, elastic, light mass WIMP interactions.

Abstract
A Knudsen effusion mass spectrometric method was used to study the vaporization processes and thermodynamic properties of pure V(2)O(3) and 14 samples of vanadium-containing slags in the CaO-MgO-Al(2)O(3)-SiO(2) system in the temperature range 1875-2625 K. The system was calibrated using gold in the liquid state as the standard. Vaporization was carried out from double tungsten effusion cells. First it was shown that, in vapor over V(2)O(3) and the vanadium-containing slags in the temperature range 1875-2100 K, the following vapor species were present: VO(2), VO, O, WO(3) and WO(2), with the latter two species being formed as a result of interaction with the tungsten crucibles. The temperature dependencies of the partial pressures of these vapor species were obtained over V(2)O(3) and the slags. The ion current comparison method was used for the determination of the V(2)O(3) activities in slags as a function of temperature with solid V(2)O(3) as a reference state. The V(2)O(3) activity coefficients in the slags under investigation indicated positive deviations from ideality at 1900 K and a tendency to ideal behavior at 2100 K. It was shown that the V(2)O(3) activity as a function of the slag basicity decreased at 1900 K and 2000 K and was practically constant in the slag melts at 2100 K. The results are expected to be valuable in the optimization of slag composition in high-alloy steelmaking processes as well as for their environmental implications.

Abstract
Brain functioning such as cognitive performance depends on the functional interactions between brain areas, namely, the functional brain networks. The functional brain networks of a group of patients with brain tumors are measured before and after tumor resection. In this work, we perform a weighted network analysis to understand the effect of neurosurgery on the characteristics of functional brain networks. Statistically significant changes in network features have been discovered in the beta (13-30 Hz) band after neurosurgery: the link weight correlation around nodes and within triangles increases which implies improvement in local efficiency of information transfer and robustness; the clustering of high link weights in a subgraph becomes stronger, which enhances the global transport capability; and the decrease in the synchronization or virus spreading threshold, revealed by the increase in the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix, which suggests again the improvement of information dissemination.

Abstract
To date only a ribonuclease and a protein with anti-HIV-1 reverse transcriptase activity have been isolated from mushrooms of the genus Russula. In this study a novel lectin, with a molecular weight of 32 kDa, and a unique N-terminal sequence different from other lectins, was isolated from the mushroom Russula lepida. It represents the first lectin isolated from Russula mushrooms. The purification scheme involved (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, ion exchange chromatography on diethylaminoethyl DEAE-cellulose and SP-Sepharose, and fast protein liquid chromatography-gel filtration on Superdex 75. The hemagglutinating activity of the lectin (RLL) was inhibited by inulin and O-nitrophenyl-beta-D-galacto-pyranoside. The lectin was stable at temperatures up to 70 degrees C (half of the activity was preserved at 80 degrees C), and in the presence of NaOH or HCl solutions up to a concentration of 12.5 mM. Its hemagglutinating activity was reduced in the presence of Mn2+, Co2+, and Hg2+ ions, and enhanced by Cu2+ ions. It exhibited antiproliferative activity toward hepatoma Hep G2 cells and human breast cancer MCF-7 cells with an IC(50) of 1.6 microM and 0.9 microM, respectively. Daily intraperitoneal injections of RLL (5.0 mg/kg body weight/day for 20 days) brought about 67.6% reduction in the weight of S-180 tumor. RLL was devoid of antifungal, ribonuclease, and HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitory activities.

Abstract
Memory T cells are a significant barrier to induction of transplant tolerance. However, reliable means to target alloreactive memory T cells have remained elusive. In this study, presensitization of BALB/c mice with C57BL/6 skin grafts generated a large number of OX40(+)CD44(hi)effector/memory T cells and resulted in rapid rejection of donor heart allografts. Recognizing that anti-OX40L monoclonal antibody (mAb) (alpha-OX40L) monotherapy prolonged graft survival through inhibition and apoptosis of memory T cells in presensitized recipients, alpha-OX40L was added to the combined treatment protocol of LF15-0195 (LF) and anti-CD45RB (alpha-CD45RB) mAb-a protocol that induced heart allograft tolerance in non-presensitized recipients but failed to induce tolerance in presensitized recipients. Interestingly, this triple therapy restored donor-specific heart allograft tolerance in our presensitized model that was associated with induction of tolerogenic dendritic cells and CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) T regulatory cells (Tregs). Of note, CD25(+) T cell depletion in triple therapy recipients prevented establishment of allograft tolerance. In addition, adoptive transfer of donor-primed effector/memory T cells into tolerant recipients markedly reduced levels of Tregs and broke tolerance. Our findings indicated that targeting memory T cells, by blocking OX40 costimulation in presensitized recipients was very important to expansion of Tregs, which proved critical to development of tolerance.

Abstract
The objective of the present paper is to develop and apply a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) based reverse line blot (RLB) hybridization assay to facilitate the diagnosis of genital infections by detection of seven recognized or putative genital pathogens (Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum, Mycoplasma genitalium, Mycoplasma hominis and Trichomonas vaginalis). Species-specific biotin-labelled primer pairs were used in a single mPCR to amplify target regions in each of seven pathogens. The amplified biotin-labelled PCR products were hybridized with membrane-bound-specific oligonucleotide probes and were detected by chemiluminescence. Two hundred and eleven specimens (104 male urethral and 107 female vaginal swabs), collected from patients with suspected genital infections attending the Wuhan First Hospital Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) clinic, were tested by mPCR/RLB and results were confirmed by single PCR using different species-specific targets. The sensitivity of the assay was assessed using dilutions of positive DNA controls with known copy numbers, for each target. The assay correctly identified all reference strains and detected potential pathogens in a high proportion of clinical specimens. There was no cross-reaction between the seven pathogens. The mPCR/RLB can detect <or= 10(2) copies of the target gene fragments. Comparison of mPCR/RLB and single PCR assays showed discrepant results in six of 211 (2.8%) clinical specimens, which were positive by mPCR/RLB assay, but negative by the corresponding single PCR. Nested PCR on the six discrepant specimens gave results consistent with those of mPCR/RLB. In conclusion, the mPCR/RLB hybridization assay is sensitive and specific, and able to rapidly detect genital pathogens in clinical specimens.

Abstract
We report the first measurements of the kurtosis (κ), skewness (S), and variance (σ2) of net-proton multiplicity (Np-Np) distributions at midrapidity for Au+Au collisions at square root of s(NN)=19.6, 62.4, and 200 GeV corresponding to baryon chemical potentials (μB) between 200 and 20 MeV. Our measurements of the products κσ2 and Sσ, which can be related to theoretical calculations sensitive to baryon number susceptibilities and long-range correlations, are constant as functions of collision centrality. We compare these products with results from lattice QCD and various models without a critical point and study the square root of s(NN) dependence of κσ2. From the measurements at the three beam energies, we find no evidence for a critical point in the QCD phase diagram for μB below 200 MeV.

Abstract
We report the first three-particle coincidence measurement in pseudorapidity (Δη) between a high transverse momentum (p⊥) trigger particle and two lower p⊥ associated particles within azimuth |Δϕ|<0.7 in square root of s(NN)=200 GeV d+Au and Au+Au collisions. Charge ordering properties are exploited to separate the jetlike component and the ridge (long range Δη correlation). The results indicate that the correlation of ridge particles are uniform not only with respect to the trigger particle but also between themselves event by event in our measured Δη. In addition, the production of the ridge appears to be uncorrelated to the presence of the narrow jetlike component.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Extranodal nasal-type NK (natural killer)/T-cell lymphoma in elderly patients is rare, and its prognosis is unclear. This study aims to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of this lymphoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS We analyzed 24 patients (age, >60 years old) with early-stage extranodal nasal-type NK/T-cell lymphoma. Among these patients, 23 received radiotherapy alone (n = 15) or radiotherapy and chemotherapy (n = 8) and 1 received chemotherapy alone. RESULTS Elderly patients with early-stage extranodal nasal-type NK/T-cell lymphoma were characterized by male predominance, good performance, large proportion of localized disease, more comorbidities, low-risk international prognostic index, and unfavorable prognosis. The 5-year cancer-specific survival (CSS), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) rates for all patients were 54.3%, 42.0%, and 40.2%, respectively. The 5-year CSS, OS, and PFS rates were 43.5%, 36.6%, and 34.1% in patients who received radiotherapy alone, and 50%, 50%, and 50% in patients who received radiotherapy and chemotherapy, respectively (P = 0.852 for CSS, P = 0.801 for OS, and P = 0.694 for PFS). Four patients died of treatment-related mortality. CONCLUSION Elderly patients with early-stage extranodal nasal-type NK/T-cell lymphoma exhibit poor prognosis and need special attention because of high treatment-related mortality.

Abstract
We studied the effects of schisandrol A (SCH) and gomisin A (GOM), two of the main bioactive components of Fructus Schisandrae chinensis, on cytochrome P450-3A4 (CYP3A4) activity and cellular glutathione (GSH) level. In a cell-free system both SCH and GOM inhibited CYP3A4 activity with IC(50) values of 32.02 microM and 1.39 microM, respectively. SCH or GOM at concentrations up to 100 microM did not alter cellular GSH level in regular HepG2 cells and P-glycoprotein overexpressing HepG2-DR cells. Since SCH and GOM may reverse multidrug resistance (MDR) by impeding the activity of P-glycoprotein, a membrane xenobiotic exporter, SCH or GOM could affect cellular drug metabolism in addition to drug uptake.
