Abstract
AbstractThis letter reports on multi-layer submicron epitaxial device structures grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE). This is the first demonstration of both high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) devices and ultraviolet light emitting diodes (LED) emitting in the wavelength range from 305 to 340 nm based on AlGaN/GaN and AlGaN/AlGaN heterostructures grown by HVPE. Two unique aspects of this technological approach are the growth of Al-containing epitaxial material by HVPE and use of HVPE to form submicron multi-layer epitaxial structures. The high performance of HVPE grown devices presented in this report demonstrates the significant potential that exists for HVPE growth technology for mass production of device epitaxial wafers.

Abstract
Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs about 22 nt long that negatively regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Their key effects on various biological processes, e.g., embryonic development, cell division, differentiation and apoptosis, are widely recognized. Evidence suggests that aberrant expression of miRNAs may contribute to many types of human diseases, including cancer. Here we present a database of differentially expressed miRNAs in human cancers (dbDEMC), to explore aberrantly expressed miRNAs among different cancers. Results We collected the miRNA expression profiles of 14 cancer types, curated from 48 microarray data sets in peer-reviewed publications. The Significance Analysis of Microarrays method was used to retrieve the miRNAs that have dramatically different expression levels in cancers when compared to normal tissues. This database provides statistical results for differentially expressed miRNAs in each data set. A total of 607 differentially expressed miRNAs (590 mature miRNAs and 17 precursor miRNAs) were obtained in the current version of dbDEMC. Furthermore, low-throughput data from the same literature were also included in the database for validation. An easy-to-use web interface was designed for users. Annotations about each miRNA can be queried through miRNA ID or miRBase accession numbers, or can be browsed by different cancer types. Conclusions This database is expected to be a valuable source for identification of cancer-related miRNAs, thereby helping with the improvement of classification, diagnosis and treatment of human cancers. Abstract
A full-length metallothionein-1(MT-1) cDNA was cloned from the Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis, based upon the hepatopancreas cDNA library. The full-length cDNA contained a single 180 bp open reading frame that encoded a 59 amino acid protein. The deduced amino acid sequence was cysteine (Cys)-rich, with residues observed in patterns characteristic of other reported MTs: Cys-X-Cys, Cys-X-X-Cys, or Cys-X-X-X-Cys. Gene structure obtained via PCR yielded a 3816 bp gene, which was comprised of three exons and two introns arranged in a "3 + 2" pattern. The cloned 5'flanking region (1,735 bp) contained several predicted binding sites, which included MREs, AP-1, SP1, USF, GATA, HNF-1, and HSF. MT-1 mRNA expression analysis revealed that while levels were highest in the hepatopancreas, expression was abundant in testis and thoracic ganglia, moderate in intestine (P<0.05), and weak in other tissues (P<0.05). MT-1 mRNA expression exhibited reproductive variation in the male, with levels approximately tenfold greater in August, during seasonal gonadal maturation, compared to other times of the year. Cu2+ exposure via tank water (0-1 mg/l for 7 days) resulted in a dose-dependent bell curve response in MT-1 mRNA expression, with peak expression observed after exposure to 0.1 mg/l Cu2+. A time course experiment (0.1 mg/l Cu2+ over 9 days) revealed MT-1 mRNA expression peaked sharply on day 5 before gradually decreasing with prolonged exposure. In the present report, we provide sequence analysis of the first MT-1 gene cloned in E. sinensis, and evidence that its physiological and toxicological regulation is evolutionary conserved.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We analyzed the prokaryotic microbial diversity of Eryuan Niujie hot spring, in Yunnan Province, to enrich our knowledge about thermo-stable microbes. METHOD We constructed bacterial and archaeal 16S rRNA gene libraries, analyzed the sequences and constructed phylogenetic trees to learn the prokaryotic microbial diversity. RESULT The majority of the prokaryotic microbes in this hot spring were bacteria, while beta-Proteobacteria was the most abundant, next were Bacteroidetes and Chlorobi; the abundance and diversity of archaea were both less than that of bacteria, including Euryarchaeota and Crenarchaeota, while Euryarchaeota was the most abundant.

Abstract
The acute-on-chronic liver failure (AoCLF) caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains to be a challenge in clinics with a high mortality rate in China, and it is important to identify biomarkers to foresee the prognosis of patients with HBV. The current study analysed serum proteome changes of acute-on-chronic liver failure as a result of acute exacerbation of chronic hepatitis B infection. Serum samples were collected from normal subjects (NS, n = 8), patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB, n = 12) and patients with AoCLF (n = 12). After removal of albumin/IgG and ultramembrane centrifugation, serum proteins were separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Differentially expressed spots were identified by matrix-associated laser desorption ionization time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry. Through the removal of albumin/IgG and ultramembrane centrifugation, the well-resolved and reproducible two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) profiles were obtained. A total of 23 proteins were identified on 2-DE profiles by their differential expression between the three cohorts. Mass spectrometry analysis resulted in the identification of 12 proteins unambiguously. Western blot analysis confirmed the proteomics results that the α1-acid glycoprotein (α1-AGP) levels decrease significantly in plasma of patients with AoCLF, but somewhat decreased in patients with chronic HBV. Further α1-AGP levels in bulk serum samples were measured by immune turbidimetry including normal subjects group (n = 25), acute hepatitis group (n = 36), chronic hepatitis group (n = 52) and AoCLF group (n = 48), the level of α1-AGP in AoCLF groups sharply decrease than other groups. Our study shows that α1-AGP may be a potential plasma biomarker for AoCLF diagnosis because of acute exacerbation of chronic hepatitis B infection.

Abstract
In a previous study, we described improved versions of MultiRound Gateway vectors. Here, we engineered a calcineurin B-like (CBL) pathway for potassium (K+) nutrition to demonstrate their effectiveness. Using the two improved entry vectors pL12R34H-Ap and pL34R12-Cm, and through 2-4 rounds of Gateway recombination reactions, we generated five pMDC99-derived binary vectors [pK21 (CIPK23+CBL1), pK29 (CIPK23+CBL9), pK31 (CIPK23+CBL1+AKT1), pK39 (CIPK23+CBL9+AKT1), and pK4 (CIPK23+CBL1+AKT1+CBL9)], in which all four genes have the same pSuper promoter and tNos terminator. pK31, pK39 and pK4 were transformed into Arabidopsis. PCR analysis confirmed that all transgenes usually co-existed in the K31, K39 or K4 transgenic plants, and qRT-PCR analysis indicated that the transgenes were expressed at reasonably high levels. The eight overexpression lines, except K31-1, displayed significantly tolerant phenotypes to low-K+ and low-K+ combined with low-Ca2+ compared to the wild type. Significant differences between the K31, K39 and K4 lines were not observed. These results indicate that the improved MultiRound Gateway vectors efficiently assembled multiple transgenes, which were stably inherited and expressed in transformed plants, even with the same promoter and terminator.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human health may be improved if milk with a favorable fatty acid composition and Se concentration is ingested. The present study is to determine how a basal diet supplemented with daily 5 mg Se as Se-enriched yeast (SY) or sodium selenite (SS) affects the fatty acid composition and Se concentration of bovine milk. The effects of Se form on blood Se concentration, erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx1) activity, serum GPx3 activity and milk yield and component were also studied. RESULTS Both Se forms, when compared to control group, increased Se concentrations of blood (P < 0.01) and milk (P < 0.01), erythrocyte GPx1 activity (P < 0.05) and milk percentages of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (P < 0.05) and cis-9,cis-12 linoleic acid (P < 0.05). Cows supplemented with SY had higher Se levels in blood (P < 0.01) and milk (P < 0.01) and percentage of PUFA in milk (P < 0.05) when compared with those supplemented with SS. Milk yield, milk component and serum GPx3 activity were not significantly affected by Se form. CONCLUSION Supplementation of diet with SY appears to be of more benefit than SS in producing favorable milk with high PUFA and Se concentrations.

Abstract
Recently, there is much interest in nanocomposites consisting of metal nanoparticles dispersed in dielectric matrix. Silver is the first candidate used in antibacterial research. In the present study, sliver-containing silica glass is prepared by ion implantation. The bactericidal properties of Ag-implanted samples are investigated using E. coli. The implanted samples are characterized by optical absorption spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The size and position of the silver nanoparticles formed by ion implantation can be optimized by adjusting the implanted process parameters. All the implanted samples show antibacterial properties. But the samples with silver nanoparticle-enriched surfaces possess excellent antibacterial properties in comparison with other implanted samples. This indicates that ion implantation is a potential method for synthesizing antibacterial biomaterials.

Abstract
Background Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs), small cytosolic proteins that function in the uptake and utilization of fatty acids, have been extensively studied in higher vertebrates while invertebrates have received little attention despite similar nutritional requirements during periods of reproductive activity. Results Therefore, a cDNA encoding Eriocheir sinensis FABP (Es-FABP) was cloned based upon EST analysis of a hepatopancreas cDNA library. The full length cDNA was 750 bp and encoded a 131 aa polypeptide that was highly homologous to related genes reported in shrimp. The 9108 bp Es-FABP gene contained four exons that were interrupted by three introns, a genomic organization common among FABP multigene family members in vertebrates. Gene expression analysis, as determined by RT-PCR, revealed the presence of Es-FABP transcripts in hepatopancreas, hemocytes, ovary, gills, muscle, thoracic ganglia, heart, and intestine, but not stomach or eyestalk. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR analysis revealed that Es-FABP expression in ovary, hemocytes, and hepatopancreas was dependent on the status of ovarian development, with peak expression observed in January. Conclusions Evidence provided in the present report supports a role of Es-FABP in lipid transport during the period of rapid ovarian growth in E. sinensis, and indirectly confirms the participation of the hepatopancreas, ovary, and hemocytes in lipid nutrient absorption and utilization processes.

Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a common malignancy in Southern China of uncertain etiologic origin. Diallyl trisulfide (DATS), one of the major components of garlic (Allium sativum), is highly bactericidal and fungicidal. In this study, we investigated the function of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and caspase-8 in DATS-induced apoptosis of human CNE2 cells using MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide], flow cytometry assay, and Western blotting. After CNE2 cells were treated with DATS (50, 100, or 150 μM) for 24 h, cell viability rates were 75.9, 63.4 and 39.6%, and apoptosis rates were 24.5, 36.9, and 62.4%, respectively. The data showed that DATS induced CNE2 cell death in a dose-dependent manner. After human CNE2 cells were treated with 100 μM DATS and inhibitors (10 μM SB203580 and Z-LETD-FMK for p38MAPK and caspase-8, respectively), changes in cell viability and apoptosis and in p38MAPK and caspase-8 activity were detected. Cell viability rates were 66.5 and 68.1% and decreased 9.9 and 11.5% compared with inhibitor treatment alone. Apoptosis rates were 31.53 and 29.98% and increased 9.1 and 10% compared with inhibitor treatment alone. The results indicated that DATS activates p38MAPK and caspase-8, but both inhibitors have an effect on P38MAPK and caspase-8 activity. In conclusion, our data indicate that p38MAPK and caspase-8 are involved in the process of DATS-induced apoptosis in human CNE2 cells and interact with each other.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of intravenous lornoxicam (LOR) at different doses given preoperatively on the immune function of patients undergoing total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH). METHODS Forty-five patients undergoing TAH were randomly divided into 3 groups, namely NS group, L8 group and L16 group with intravenous injection of 4 ml saline, 8 mg LOR, and 16 mg LOR before the induction of anesthesia respectively. Venous blood samples were taken before anesthesia (T0), at 30 min during the operation (T1), at the end of the operation (T2), and at 24 h and 48 h after the operation (T3 and T4, respectively) to determine the serum levels of regulated upon activation normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), and stromal cell-derived factor 1 alpha (SDF-1alpha) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS The serum RANTES levels in NS group and L8 group at T1-T3 were significantly lower than those at T0 (P<0.05), but the levels in L8 group at each time point were all higher than those in NS group NS (P<0.05). The serum RANTES levels in L16 group L16 only decreased at T1-T2 as compared to those at T0, and were significantly higher than those in NS group and L8 group (P<0.05). The expressions of MCP-1 and SDF-1alpha in the 3 groups all increased at T1 and reached the peak levels after the operation. In L8 group and L16 group, MCP-1 expression at T2-T3 and SDF-1alpha at T1-T2 were both significantly lower than those in NS group (P<0.05). SDF-1alpha expression at T1-T2 was significantly lower in L16 group than in L8 group (P<0.05). The decrements of MCP-1 and SDF-1alpha were more obvious in L16 group than L8 group. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative intravenous LOR injection may increase serum RANTES level and decrease MCP-1 and SDF-1alpha expressions to effectively relieve the perioperative immune disorders caused by TAH, and the effect is more potent at the dose of 16 mg.

Abstract
The substitution of magnesium in hydroxyapatite (HA) was examined in HA nano-crystals synthesized by the wet-chemical precipitation method at 90 degrees C. Comprehensive characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, field emission scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and Rietveld refinement, provided experimental evidence of the effects of Mg substitution on the phase, crystallinity, chemical composition, crystal size, morphology, thermal stability and crystal lattice structure of HA. A computational study using ab initio generalized gradient approximation density functional theory was performed to reveal changes in lattice parameters and preferential calcium sites for Mg substitution in HA. The experimental results showed that a limited amount of Mg (Mg/(Mg+Ca) between 5 and 7 mol.%) could successfully substitute for Ca in HA. HA crystallites became smaller and more irregular, and they formed greater agglomerates with Mg substitution. Mg substitution resulted in decreases in the crystallinity and thermal stability of HA. The lattice constants, a and c, decreased with increasing Mg substitution. The simulation results revealed that the Ca(1) sites in HA lattices were energetically favored sites for Mg substitution.

Abstract
Background Leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormone with multiple functions that regulates energy homeostasis and reproductive functions. Increased knowledge of leptin receptor function will enhance our understanding of the physiological roles of leptin in animals. Methodology/Principal Findings In the present study, a full-length leptin receptor (lepr) cDNA, consisting of 1,353 nucleotides, was cloned from Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) using rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) following the identification of a single expressed sequence tag (EST) clone in a cDNA library. The lepr cDNA consisted of a 22-nucleotide 5′-untranslated region (5′ UTR), a 402-nucleotide open reading frame (ORF) and a 929-nucleotide 3′ UTR. Multiple sequence alignments revealed that Chinese mitten crab lepr shared a conserved vacuolar protein sorting 55 (Vps55) domain with other species. Chinese mitten crab lepr expression was determined in various tissues and at three different reproductive stages using quantitative real-time RT-PCR. Lepr expression was highest in the intestine, thoracic ganglia, gonad, and accessory gonad, moderate in hepatopancreas and cranial ganglia, and low in muscle, gill, heart, haemocytes, and stomach. Furthermore, lepr expression was significantly higher in the intestine, gonad and thoracic ganglia in immature crabs relative to precocious and mature crabs. In contrast, lepr expression was significantly lower in the hepatopancreas of immature crabs relative to mature crabs. Conclusions/Significance We are the first to identify the lepr gene and to determine its gene expression patterns in various tissues and at three different reproductive stages in Chinese mitten crab. Taken together, our results suggest that lepr may be involved in the nutritional regulation of metabolism and reproduction in Chinese mitten crabs.

Abstract
We report a rational synthesis of maghemite (gamma-Fe(2)O(3)) short-nanotubes (SNTs) by a convenient hydrothermal method and subsequent annealing process. The structure, shape, and magnetic properties of the SNTs were investigated. Room-temperature and low-temperature magnetic measurements show that the as-fabricated gamma-Fe(2)O(3) SNTs are ferromagnetic, and its coercivity is nonzero when the temperature above blocking temperature (T(B)). The hysteresis loop was operated to show that the magnetic properties of gamma-Fe(2)O(3) SNTs are strongly influenced by the morphology of the crystal. The unique magnetic behaviors were interpreted by the competition of the demagnetization energy of quasi-one-dimensional nanostructures and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy of particles in SNTs.

Abstract
We study the statistical properties of the recurrence intervals τ between successive trading volumes exceeding a certain threshold q. The recurrence interval analysis is carried out for the 20 liquid Chinese stocks covering a period from January 2000 to May 2009, and two Chinese indices from January 2003 to April 2009. Similar to the recurrence interval distribution of the price returns, the tail of the recurrence interval distribution of the trading volumes follows a power-law scaling, and the results are verified by the goodness-of-fit tests using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) statistic, the weighted KS statistic and the Cramér-von Mises criterion. The measurements of the conditional probability distribution and the detrended fluctuation function show that both short-term and long-term memory effects exist in the recurrence intervals between trading volumes. We further study the relationship between trading volumes and price returns based on the recurrence interval analysis method. It is found that large trading volumes are more likely to occur following large price returns, and the comovement between trading volumes and price returns is more pronounced for large trading volumes.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of different preparation methods on the encapsulation efficiency (EE) and drug loading (DL) of paclitaxel-loaded polybutylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles (PTX-PBCA-NPs) and optimize the preparation of PTX-PBCA-NPs. METHODS With DL and EE as the major indexes, the qualities of PTX-PBCA-NPs produced by the interfacial polymerization and emulsion polymerization method were compared. The optimized prescription was obtained by orthogonal design. RESULTS The ranges of EE of PTX-PBCA-NPs with the two methods were both 94.39%-99.23%. The highest DL with interfacial polymerization was (1.07-/+0.03)%, as compared to (0.86-/+0.01)% with emulsion polymerization. The optimized preparation conditions resulted in the mean size of PTX-PBCA-NPs of 235.6 nm, DL of 0.80%, and EE of 95.71%. CONCLUSION The EE of PTX-PBCA-NPs prepared by the above two methods is consistent with the requirement of the Pharmacopoeia of China, and PTX-PBCA-NPs containing higher DL can be obtained via interfacial polymerization.

Abstract
Total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) is most commonly performed for benign lesions and malignant diseases of the uterus. Postoperative immuno-suppression caused by TAH has become a serious clinical problem, due to the high incidence of infectious complications after this operation. Lornoxicam (LOR) is a member of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and a cyclooxygenase inhibitor. In this study, 45 patients undergoing TAH for uterine myoma were enrolled and given intravenous injection of normal saline (untreated patients) or LOR (8 or 16 mg) preoperatively (15 patients/group). We studied the effects of LOR on postoperative immuno-suppression by determining the serum levels of three cytokines, RANTES, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), and stromal cell-derived factor 1alpha (SDF-1alpha). MCP-1 and RANTES are involved in the pathophysiology of acute and chronic inflammatory processes, and SDF-1alpha is considered as an inflammatory chemoattractant. Following TAH, the serum levels of RANTES were reduced in the untreated patients, but were significantly higher in the patients treated with LOR. In addition, the levels of MCP-1 and SDF-1alpha were significantly elevated in the untreated patients, but were significantly lower in the patients treated with LOR. Furthermore, preoperative treatment with LOR 16 mg could regulate the serum levels of these three chemokines more effectively, compared to that with LOR 8 mg. In conclusion, preoperatively intravenous injection of LOR may effectively restrain the decreased serum levels of RANTES and the increased expression of MCP-1 and SDF-1alpha in TAH patients. LOR may help to maintain the stability of immune function of TAH patients.

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to determine if CLA could be transferred from sows to their offspring through the umbilical cord or milk. Eighteen pregnant Dalland sows of mixed parity were used in a completely randomized block design based on parity and BW. The sows were allotted to 1 of 3 groups and fed diets containing 0, 0.5, or 1.0% CLA during the last 50 d of gestation and throughout a 26-d lactation (n = 6). Umbilical cord blood was sampled at parturition. Colostrum and milk were collected from each sow on d 2 and 15 after farrowing. Samples of blood, backfat, and the LM were obtained from piglets at 2 and 26 d of age. Sow reproductive performance and piglet growth were not altered by CLA supplementation during the late gestation and lactation periods. The CLA supplementation of sow diets had an impact on the fatty acid profiles in colostrum and milk. Dietary CLA increased the concentrations of total SFA (linear and quadratic, P < 0.01), but reduced the total MUFA in the colostrum (linear and quadratic, P < 0.01). Although dietary CLA increased the concentrations of total SFA (quadratic, P < 0.01), it had no influence on total MUFA concentrations in the milk. In addition, feeding sows diets supplemented with CLA resulted in increases (linear and quadratic, P < 0.01) in the CLA content of plasma, backfat, and the LM in their offspring. However, trans-10, cis-12-18:2, rather than cis-9, trans-11-18:2, was detected in the umbilical cord blood, which indicates that CLA may be transported from the sow to the fetus in an isomer-specific manner.

Abstract
We study the statistical properties of return intervals r between successive energy dissipation rates above a certain threshold Q in three-dimensional fully developed turbulence. We find that the distribution function P(Q)(r) scales with the mean return interval R(Q) as P(Q)(r)=R(Q)(-1)f(r/R(Q)) for R(Q) is an element of [50,500], where the scaling function f(x) has two power-law regimes. The scaling behavior is statistically validated by the Cramér-von Mises criterion. The return intervals are short-term and long-term correlated and possess multifractal nature. The Hurst index of the return intervals decays exponentially against R(Q), predicting that rare extreme events with R(Q)-->infinity are also long-term correlated with the Hurst index H(infinity)=0.639. These phenomenological findings have potential applications in risk assessment of extreme events at very large R(Q).

Abstract
Vacuoles and actin filaments are important cytoarchitectures involved in guard cell function. The changes in the morphology and number of vacuoles and the regulation of ion channel activity in tonoplast of guard cells are essential for stomatal movement. A number of studies have investigated the regulation of ion channels in animal and plant cells; however, little is known about the regulating mechanism for vacuolar dynamics in stomatal movement. Actin filaments of guard cells are remodelling with the changes in the stomatal aperture; however, the dynamic functions of actin filaments in stomatal movement remain elusive. In this paper, we summarize the recent developments in the understanding of the dynamics of actin filaments and vacuoles of guard cells during stomatal movement. All relevant studies suggest that actin filaments might be involved in stomatal movement by regulating vacuolar dynamics and the ion channels in tonoplast. The future study could be focused on the linker protein mediating the interaction between actin filaments and tonoplast, which will provide insights into the interactive function of actin and vacuole in stomatal movement regulation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of controlled hypotension using different drugs on gastrointestinal perfusion and bleeding volume in nasal endoscopic surgery. METHODS Thirty ASA class I or II patients scheduled for nasal endoscopic surgery were randomized into three groups, including a routine general anesthesia group (group A) and two controlled hypotension groups (groups B and C). After anesthesia induction, anesthesia was maintained with 1%-2% isoflurane and vecuronium. ECG, mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), SpO(2) and PETCO(2) were continuously monitored. TRIP tonometry catheter 14 F was inserted into the stomach and connected to Tonocap (Datex-Ohmeda, Finland ). In groups B and C, hypotension was induced with isoflurane (1%-2%) and sodium nitroprusside (0.3-3 microg.kg(-1).min(-1)), and with isoflurane (1%-2%) and glonoine (0.5-5 microg.kg(-1).min(-1)), respectively, and the MAP was reduced to 50-55 mmHg in 10-15 min. In groups B and C, blood samples were taken for blood gas analysis after anesthesia (T(0)), after acute hypervolemic hemodilution (T(1)), at 30 and 60 min after controlled hypotension (T(2) and T(3)), and 30 min after recovery from hypotension (T(4)). In group A, blood samples were taken at different time points in the perioperative period. RESULTS The patients in groups B and C had smaller bleeding volume than those in group A. HR was decreased after moderate acute hypervolemic hemodilution, and increased after controlled hypotension (T(2) and T(3)) in comparison with that at T(1) to a level similar to that at T(0). No significant changes were found in pHi at T(2) and T(3) in comparison with that at T(1) in the three groups. CONCLUSION When appropriate measures are taken, induced hypotension at 50-55 mmHg does not necessarily produce disturbance in gastrointestinal perfusion. Induced hypotension with glonoin can decrease the bleeding volume better than sodium nitroprusside in nasal endoscopic surgery.
