Abstract
1. Although condensation silicone elastomers can be used to produce multiple dies from a single impression, one can expect changes in dimensions of dies produced from successive pours. 2. Putty/wash systems exhibit variable behavior among different brands. Some products produce a series of dies of increasing diameter over a 4-day period, while other brands may produce a series of dies whose diameters decrease as they are successively poured. 3. Light-body wash silicone impressions made in adhesive-lined custom acrylic resin trays produce dies which increase in diameter with time. 4. Putty/wash system, in general, show a greater eccentricity of dies than is seen with custom-tray/adhesive/wash systems, but there were some significant exceptions among the brands tested. 5. There does not appear to be any difference in behavior between single-wash and double-mix techniques in the condensation-silicone systems. 6. For maximum accuracy, the condensation-silicone systems should be poured as soon as possible after making the impression.

Abstract
Plasma samples from patients with various types of von Willebrand's disease were subdivided into six patterns according to the electrophoretic mobility and shape of VIIIR: Ag on crossed immunoelectrophoresis (CIE): pattern 1 no precipitation are, pattern 2 normal mobility with low arc, arc, pattern 3 intermediate mobility with low arc, pattern 4 faster anodal mobility with low arc, pattern 5 normal mobility with normal are height, pattern 6 faster anodal mobility with normal are height. Of 62 patients, 14 had pattern 1, 6 pattern 2, 16 pattern 3, 12 pattern 4, 9 pattern 5, and 5 pattern 6. Large pore polyacrylamide-agarose gel-crossed immunoelectrophoresis (PAAG-CIE) of crude factor VIII fraction from cryoprecipitate revealed no arcs in patients with pattern 1, three arcs of reduced height in the patients with patterns 2 and 3, four arcs very similar to normal control in patients with pattern 5, and two arcs with fast anodal migration in the patients with patterns 4 and 6. Crude factor VIII fractions from normal cryosupernatant showed one low fast anodally migrating arc corresponding to the fourth arc of normal cryoprecipitate. No peak was seen in patients with pattern 1, and one low fast anodal arc similar to normal control was present in the patients with patterns 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Abstract
Histidine decarboxylase (L-histidine carboxy-lyase, EC 4.1.1.22) of an extract of rat stomach was inactivated by a pancreatic extract. This inactivation was prevented by the protease inhibitors leupeptin, antipan, chymostatin, pepstatin, Trasylol and phenylmethanesulfonyl fluoride. Leupeptin, antipain, chymostatin and pepstatin together and phenylmethanesulfonyl fluoride alone prevented complete inactivation of the enzyme, while Trasylol had a weak protective effect. The inactivation and protection of histidine decarboxylase purified from whole fetal rats were similar to those of the stomach enzyme: both enzymes were strongly inactivated by trypsin and chymotrypsin, but not by elatase or carboxypeptidase Y. The histidine decarboxylase activities of various rat tissues were assayed in the presence of protease inhibitors: activity was highest in mast cells followed by the whole bodies of fetal rats and the stomach, while the activities were lower in decreasing order in the brain, spleen, lung and liver. Heart and kidney had no activity.

Abstract
1. Cyanoacrylate resins and resinous die hardeners effectively improved the hardness and abrasion resistance of stone dies. 2. Application of liquid resins followed by blotting and/or blowing with compressed air produced an improved surface without clinically significant dimensional change. The extent of film buildup was qualitatively related to the viscosity of the resin. 3. Application of multiple coats of resin or simply soaking the dies in resin without further blotting or other mode of removal of the excess produced a thick film which can obliterate surface detail.

Abstract
A case report was made of a 24-year-old man suffering from hypogonadotropic eunuchoidism associated with a hypokalemic type of familiar periodic paralysis. The attacks were observed only during the period of continual administration of the oil solution of 115.7 mg of testosterone enanthate and 20.0 mg of testosterone propionate, intramuscularly as a depot. From the findings on this patient, it was concluded that testosterone might possibly play a role in the occurrence of attacks in the case of periodic paralysis.

Abstract
The mean level of factor VIII procoagulant acitivity (VIII:C) and factor VIII related antigen (VIIIR:AG) was normal in 100 newborn cord plasmas, whereas that of von Willebrand factor (VIIIR:WF) activity was slightly lower than normal. On crossed immunoelectrophoresis, 20 of 50 newborn infants had an increased anodal mobility of VIIIR:AG. When the cord plasma showing an abnormal electrophoretic pattern was mixed with normal plasma, two precipitation peaks with a broad base were found. Similar mixing experiments with the abnormal cord plasma and plasma from a patient with atypical von Willebrand's disease did not normalize the electrophoretic mobility of VIIIR:AG. Gel filtration of the cord plasma with an abnormal electrophoretic pattern of VIII:AG, showed that the three activities were all detected at the position corresponding to a molecular weight of about 800 000. The results suggest the presence of qualitative abnormalities of the factor VIII molecule in half of full-term newborn cord plasma.

Abstract
The effects of thromboxane A2 (TXA2) on isolated, working guinea pig heart and left ventricular papillary muscle preparations were investigated. TXA2 was generated by the enzymatic conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) with indomethacin-treated horse platelet microsomes (IPM). TXA2 caused dose-dependently a considerable decrease in the coronary flow, left ventricular systolic pressure and left ventricular dp/dt in the perfused heart, while the similar effects of PGH2 were transient and weaker than those of TXA2. These effects of TXA2 disappeared after the TXA2-generating system was left standing at 37 degree C for 3 min. When IPM in the TXA2-generating system was pretreated with a TXA2 synthetase inhibitor, L-8027, the enhanced cardiac responses induced by the mixture of IPM and PGH2 disappeared. TXA2 had no direct effect on the contractile force of the papillary muscle. These results suggest that TXA2 has a specific coronary vasopastic action without a direct inotropic effect.

Abstract
The effects of several kinds of carbohydrate oxidase, SH-inhibitors and some other chemical reagents on the activities of von Willebrand factor, factor VIII procoagulant and factor VIII-related antigen were studied. Factor VIII procoagulant and von Willebrand factor activities were both inhibited by galactose oxidase, p-hydroxymercuribenzoic acid, 2,4,6-trinitrobenzensulfonic acid and sodium periodate, alpha-Mannosidase, N-ethylmaleimide and phospholipase C inactivated factor VIII procoagulant but not von Willebrand factor activity. Dithiothreitol had little effect on factor VIII procoagulant activity but reduced significantly that of von Willebrand factor. It is suggested that galactose and the thiol and epsilon-aminogroup groups of lysine may play an important role in both factor VIII procoagulant and von Willebrand factor activity. Mannose may be responsible for the factor VIII procoagulant activity but not for the von Willebrand factor activity. The Laurell rocket heights of factor VIII-related antigen rose with increasing concentration of galactose oxidase, 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid or sodium periodate. Gel filtration experiments showed that factor VIII-related antigen may be dissociated into subunits by galactose oxidase but not by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid or sodium periodate.

Abstract
A highly sensitive sandwich immunoassay of macromolecular antigens using the rabbit antibody Fab' - beta-D-galactosidase complex and the rabbit antibody immunoglobulin-G-coupled glass rod as a solid phase is described. The Fab' fragments of rabbit antibody IgG are conjugated with beta-D-galactosidase from Escherichia coli using N,N'-o-phenylenedimaleimide. Rabbit antibody IgG is coupled to the aminoalkylsilyl glass rods (3 mm in diameter and 5 mm in length) using glutaraldehyde. A wide range of the concentrations of rabbit IgG fraction (20-2000 mug/ml) is effective for coupling, and the amount of rabbit immunoglobulin G coupled can be controlled. The smallest amounts of ornithine delta-aminotransferase from rat liver, human immunoglobulin G and 2,4-dinitrophenyl human immunoglobulin G that can be determined are 0.03, 0.3 and 0.04 fmol, respectively. The sensitivity of the assay for these antigens is affected mainly by the non-specific binding of the complexes to the solid phase and the ability of antigen molecules, adsorbed on the solid phase, to bind specifically the complexes. The assay with the rabbit antibody immunoglobulin-G-coupled glass rods is simpler and more sensitive than that with the rabbit antibody immunoglobulin-G-coupled Sepharose 4B.

Abstract
By in vitro incubation of rhesus monkey lenses at 37degreesC, we determined that solutions superior to intraocular irrigating solutions in common clinical use could be prepared by aspetically adding commerically available solutions of dextrose 5% in water and sodium bicarbonate to either Ringer's injection or Ringer's lactate solutions. While not as effective as glutathione-bicarbonate-Ringer's solution (G-B-R) in maintaining lens clarity, these mixtures can be prepared easily in the operating room (in contrast to G-B-r) and may improve surgical results in procedures requiring prolonged intraocular irrigation.

Abstract
A macromolecular antigen, ornithine delta-aminotransferase [EC 2.6.1.13] from rat liver (OAT) was assayed by the sandwich procedure using rabbit (anti-OAT) Fab'-beta-D-galactosidase complex and rabbit (anti-OAT) IgG-coupled glass rods as a solid phase. The Fab' fragments of the rabbit (anti-OAT) IgG were conjugated with beta-D-galactosidase [EC 3.2.1.23] from Escherichia coli using N, N'-o-phenylenedimaleimide. The rabbit (anti-OAT) IgG was coupled to the aminoalkylsilyl glass rods using glutaraldehyde. The rabbit (anti-OAT) IgG-coupled glass rods were incubated with OAT and then with the rabbit (anti-OAT) Fab'-beta-D-galactosidase complex. The amount of OAT was determined from the activity of beta-D-galactosidase bound to the glass rods. A minimum of 0.03 fmoles of OAT could be determined by this method and use of the glass rods gave greater reproducibility, and was more sensitive and simpler than use of Sepharose 4B.

Abstract
Prostaglandin F2alpha (PG F2alpha) was administered to pregnant women at a dosage of 50 microng or 100 microng by extraovular route around the expected time of childbirth in order to induce labor. (1) PG F2alpha 50 microng or 100 microng dissolved in 10 ml of physiological saline solution was infused by extraovular administration through the cervical canal of the uterus with the use of Nelaton catheter No. 9. The catheter was then immediately withdrawn and the patient allowed to return home. (2) Instilation of 10ml of physiological saline solution was carried out for control purposes. (3) Those who reported labor contractions within 24 hours after the infusion were regarded as cases of excellent response, and those who reported labor contractions more than 24 hours after the infusion, or those who showed dilatation and improvement in effacement of the uterine cervical canal though without the occurrence of labor contractions were deemed to be cases of good response. The overall positive response rate (excellent plus good) was 78.9% for primiparae and 85.7% for multiparae in the group receiving 50 microng and 89.5% for primiparae and 100% for multiparae in the group receiving 100 microng. (4) Labor contraction were induced at a rate of almost 100% in those who showed dilatation of the cervical canal of the uterus to the extent of 3 cm or more and effacement to the extent of 50% or more. (5) It is advisable to perform reinfusion of PG F2alpha or instilation of PG F2alpha as a post-treatment in patients with good responses. (6) The infusion of PG F2alpha is effective for the induction of labor in older primiparae, cases of breech presentation and suspected cases of CPD. (7) There were some cases of enhanced response when PG F2alpha was given as posttreatment.

Abstract
1. A method for the conjugation of the Fab' fragment of rabbit IgG with beta-D-galactosidase from Escherichia coli is described. The method consists of two main steps: treatment of the Fab' fragments containing sulfhydryl groups with excess N,N'-o-phenylenedimaleimide, to introduce maleimide residues into the fragments, and then incubation of the dimaleimide-treated Fab' fragments with beta-D-galactosidase, which also contains sulfhydryl groups, to form the rabbit Fab'-beta-D-galactosidase complex. More than 90% of the enzyme used can be converted to the Fab'-enzyme complex, and the complex is readily separated from free Fab' fragments by chromatography on a Sepharose 6B column. 2. The application of the rabbit Fab'-beta-D-galactosidase complex for immunoassay of macromolecular antigens is shown by measuring human IgG by the sandwich method. The rabbit (anti-human IgG) IgG-coupled Sepharose 4B is incubated with human IgG and then with the rabbit (anti-human IgG) Fab'-enzyme complex, and the enzyme activity bound to the Sepharose is measured. In this way it is possible to determine as little as 0.3 fmoles of human IgG.

Abstract
Rabbit immunoglobulin G (IgG) was reduced by incubating with 10 mM 2-mercaptoethylamine and then treated with excess amounts of N,N'-o-phenylenedimaleimide. As a result, maleimide residues were introduced into rabbit IgG molecules. Rabbit IgG containing maleimide residues could be coupled to beta-D-galactosidase from Escherichia coli which has sulfhydryl groups in the molecule. The resulting rabbit IgG (antibody)-enzyme complex may be useful for immunoassay of antigens. As an example, human IgG was assayed by the sandwich method using the rabbit anti-(human IgG) IgG-beta-D-galactosidase complex and amounts of human IgG as small as 3 fmoles were measurable.
