Abstract
Glucagon was administered to six patients with acute myocardial infarction. Three of them had cardiogenic shock syndrome. Glucagon produced a positive inotropic response in all cases, which resulted in a significant rise in blood pressure, with only slight chronotropic effect. No arrhythmias were induced, and all patients with cardiogenic shock improved temporarily. Further evaluation of glucagon in shock syndrome to determine the dose and method of administration is required.

Abstract
Phenytoin was given intravenously in 37 patients with cardiac arrhythmias-21 had acute myocardial infarction and 16 had other conditions. There was a favourable response in 18 of the 21 cases with acute myocardial infarction, with a return to sinus rhythm in six of the nine cases with supraventricular arrhythmias, and a return to sinus rhythm in 10 of the 12 cases of ventricular arrhythmias, the remaining two showing a significant reduction in the number of ventricular extra-systoles.In the second group of 16 cases which had various causes there was a satisfactory response in only six. Digitalis played no part in producing any of the arrhythmias. Phenytoin was used orally for suppressing and preventing abnormal rhythm in five patients, and three of these responded favourably. The number of patients treated orally is too small to draw any definite conclusion.

Abstract
The breakdown of starch in potato tubers which starts when buds begin to grow, stops if the sprouts are removed. The sprout controls the utilization and translocation of food reserves from the tuber. Movement of reserves can occur over the whole cross section of the tuber and is not restricted to the vascular shell. The presence of a growing sprout does not affect the permeability of the tuber tissue to sugar or amino acid.

Abstract
The techniques of treatment of carcinoma of the bronchus using 8 million volt x rays are described. In a group of inoperable cases of carcinoma of the bronchus a three-year survival rate of 10% was obtained with squamous lesions, and in anaplastic and oat-cell lesions the three-year survival rate was 4%. The factors affecting the prognosis are described and also the palliation achieved. The immediate reactions and the late complications of treatment are described and are no more severe than with orthovoltage x-ray therapy.

Abstract
Examined the effects of weight cycling (i.e., losing and regaining or gaining and relosing body weight) versus weight maintenance on metabolic control in 327 adult, male, outpatient veterans with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) who were followed over an average of 3.4 years. When compared with weight maintenance, weight cycling, whether defined as a categorical or as a continuous variable, was not found to be associated with deficits in metabolic control or increased need for hypoglycemic medication. Patients who weight cycled had fasting serum glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels comparable to those who remained within 10% of their initial body weights, and these levels of metabolic control were obtained with similar classes and dosages of hypoglycemic medication.
