Abstract
Periodontal tissue damage, accompanied by the degradation and destruction of periodontal tissue collagen, is one of the most clinically common complications and difficulty self-repair in patients with diabetes. Human periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSC) are the undifferentiated mesenchymal cells that persist in the periodontal ligament after development of periodontal tissue and the ability of PDLSC osteogenic differentiation is responsible for repairing periodontal tissue defects. However, the reasons of high glucose environment in diabetic patients inhibiting PDLSC to repair periodontal tissues are unclear. To address these issues, we propose exposing PDLSC to high-sugar mimics the diabetic environment and investigating the activity of osteogenic differentiation and adipogenic differentiation of PDLSC. At the cellular level, high glucose can promote the adipogenic differentiation and inhibit osteogenic differentiation to decrease the self-repair ability of PDLSC in periodontal tissues. Mechanistically at the molecular level, these effects are elicited via regulating the mRNA and protein expression of C/EBPβ, PPAR-γ.

Abstract
In the charge-coupled device (CCD) and micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) accelerometer based low-cost multi-loop optoelectronic control system (OCS), due to accelerometers’ drift and noise in low frequency, the disturbance suppression (DS) is insufficient. Previously, based on the acceleration and position dual-loop control (ADLC), researchers combined a disturbance observer (DOB) with a virtual velocity loop to make some medium-frequency DS exchange for low-frequency performance. However, it is not optimal because the classic DOB based on accelerometers’ inaccurate signals cannot observe accurate disturbance in low frequency and the velocity based on a CCD and accelerometer time-domain fusion carried the CCD’s delay, resulting in the drop of medium-frequency DS. In this paper, considering the CCD’s advantage in low frequency and the accelerometer’s strength in high frequency, we propose to fuse their signals twice with a modified complementary filter method to respectively acquire an acceleration and velocity. The new acceleration with no drift and less noise but lower bandwidth creates a new acceleration model and is only used in fusion DOB (FDOB), while the velocity with little delay is to build an additional velocity loop. Compared with the traditional DOB enhanced by the time-domain fusion velocity loop, experiments verify that the proposed multiple fusion would apparently enhance the system’s DS, especially in low and medium frequency.

Abstract
This study set out with the aim of investigating the solvent effects on dimethyl phthalate (DMP) using FTIR characterization, solvent parameter correlation and DFT calculation. DMP exposed to 17 organic solvents manifested varying shift in the carbonyl stretching vibration frequency (νCO). Non-alkanols induced Band I and alkanols produced Band I and Band II. Through correlating the νCO with the empirical solvent scales including acceptor parameter (AN), Schleyer's linear free energy parameter (G), and linear free salvation energy relationships (LSER), Band I was mainly ascribed to non-specific effects from either non-alkanols or alkanol polymers ((alkanol)n). νCO of the latter indicated minor red shift and less variability compared to the former. An assumption was made and validated about the sequestering of hydroxyl group by the bulky hydrophobic chain in (alkanol)n, creating what we refer to as "screening effects". Ab initio calculation, on the other hand, provided insights for possible hydrogen binding between DMP and (ethanol)n or between ethanol monomers. The two components of Band I observed in inert solvents were assigned to the two CO groups adopting differentiated conformations. This in turn prompted our consideration that hydrogen binding was highly selective in favor of lowly associated (alkanol)n and the particular CO group having relatively less steric hindrance and stronger electron-donating capacity. Band II was therefore believed to derive from hydrogen-bond interactions mainly in manner of 1:1 and 1:2 DMP-(alkanol)n complexes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Antipsychotic drug (APD) prescription/use in children has increased significantly worldwide, despite limited insight into potential long-term effects of treatment on adult brain functioning. While initial long-term studies have uncovered alterations to behaviors following early APD treatment, further investigations into potential changes to receptor density levels of related neurotransmitter (NT) systems are required. METHODS The current investigation utilized an animal model for early APD treatment with aripiprazole, olanzapine, and risperidone in male and female juvenile rats to investigate potential long-term changes to the adult serotonin (5-HT) NT system. Levels of 5-HT1A, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2C receptors were measured in the prefrontal cortex (PFC), caudate putamen (CPu), nucleus accumbens (NAc), and hippocampus via Western Blot and receptor autoradiography. RESULTS In the male cohort, long-term changes to 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors were found mostly across hippocampal and cortical brain regions following early aripiprazole and olanzapine treatment, while early risperidone treatment changed 5-HT1A receptor levels in the NAc and PFC. Lesser effects were uncovered in the female cohort with aripiprazole, olanzapine and risperidone to alter 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors in NAc and hippocampal brain regions, respectively. CONCLUSION The results of this study suggest that early treatment of various APDs in juvenile rats may cause gender and brain regional specific changes in 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors in the adult brain.

Abstract
Silk fibroin (SF) can be extensively utilized in biomedical areas owing to its appreciable bioactivity. In this study, biocompatible composites of SF and hydroxyapatite (HAp) were fabricated through in situ biomimetic mineralization process. Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto SF was conducted by using the catalytic system of acetylacetone (ACAC), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP), for enhancing the deposition of apatite onto the fibroin chains. Subsequently, biomimetic mineralization of the prepared fibroin-based membrane was performed in Ca/P solutions to synthesize the organized SF/HAp composites. The efficacies of graft copolymerization and biomimetic mineralization were evaluated by means of ATR-FTIR, GPC, EDS-Mapping, XRD and others. The results denoted that AA was successfully graft-copolymerized with fibroin and formed the copolymer of silk fibroin-graft-polyacrylic acid (SF-g-PAA), and the grafting percentage (GP) and grafting efficiency (GE) under the optimal condition reached to 23.2% and 29.4%, respectively. More mineral phases were detected on the surface of SF-g-PAA membrane after mineralization process when compared to that of the untreated fibroin membrane, companying with an improved mechanical property. According to MG-63 cell viability and fluorescent adhesion assays, the mineralized SF-g-PAA composite showed satisfactory biocompatibility and exceptional adhesive effects as well. The synthetized composite of SF-g-PAA/HAp can be potentially applied in the fields of bone tissue engineering.

Abstract
Magneto-optical (MO) properties of bi- and tri-layer graphene are investigated utilizing terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz TDS) in the presence of a strong magnetic field at room-temperature. In the Faraday configuration and applying optical polarization measurements, we measure the real and imaginary parts of the longitudinal and transverse MO conductivities of different graphene samples. The obtained experimental data fits very well with the classical MO Drude formula. Thus, we are able to obtain the key sample and material parameters of bi- and tri-layer graphene, such as the electron effective mass, the electronic relaxation time and the electron density. It is found that in high magnetic fields the electronic relaxation time τ for bi- and tri-layer graphene increases with magnetic field B roughly in a form [Formula: see text]. Most importantly, we obtain the electron effective mass for bi- and tri-layer graphene at room-temperature under non-resonant conditions. This work shows how the advanced THz MO techniques can be applied for the investigation into fundamental physics properties of atomically thin 2D electronic systems.

Abstract
Fluoride (F), naturally found in aquifers around the world at toxic concentrations, causes disease in millions of people. The long-term stability, however, of those concentrations within intensively pumped aquifers is poorly characterized. We assessed long-term stability in the spatial distribution of F concentrations in an intensively pumped aquifer within the semi-arid, inter-montane Independence Basin in central Mexico between 1999 and 2016. Although stable in 16 re-sampled wells, F concentrations increased in some localities across the basin by as much as 4mg/L. Changes in recharge pathways to the deep aquifer were identified by analyzing changes in δ2H, δ18O and Cl/Br mass ratios. In 1999, δ2H and δ18O values suggested the aquifer was recharged in the mountains. In 2016, however, substantial increases in δ18O values in the center of the basin suggest recharge water is derived from rainfall that had experienced increased evaporation. In 1999, the mass ratio Cl/Br in groundwater was slightly enriched over local rainfall, and followed a single mixing line on a plot of Cl. vs. Cl/Br. In 2016, however, three distinct groupings of wells were evident, all following different mixing lines. These changes suggest input from new sources including urban sewage, evaporate dissolution, connate sea water and geothermal waters. Step-wise multiple regression was used to quantify the impact of physical and chemical parameters on F concentrations. In 1999, Li (6.8±1.7) and Na (0.01±0.004) drove F concentrations (R2=0.54). In 2016, Na (0.013±0.0018), HCO3 (0.004±0.001), Ca (-0.0018±0.00045), and Mg (-0.055±0.023) drove F concentrations (0.78). Irrigation pumping and urban expansion within semi-arid, groundwater-dependent, inter-montane basins drive mixing of disparate groundwater chemistries and introduces new sources of recharge to aquifers inducing changes in aquifer chemistry including increasing concentrations of geogenic toxic elements.

Abstract
It is a long challenge to develop nanomedicines that simultaneously possess tumor cell selectivity and penetration functions. Here, it is reported that selective cell penetrating peptide (RLWMRWYSPRTRAYGC)-functionalized polymersomes (SCPP-PS) mediate efficient and targeted delivery of methotrexate disodium (MTX) to human lung cancer in vivo. SCPP-PS with an SCPP density of 18.7% is self-crosslinked, has a small size (63-65 nm), and high MTX loading (up to 19.4 wt%), shows selective uptake and fast penetration into A549 lung cancer cells, and efficiently releases MTX intracellularly. Interestingly, MTX-loaded SCPP-PS (MTX-SCPP-PS) displays much lower IC50 than those of MTX-PS and free MTX. Installing SCPP to polymersomes has no detrimental effect to their long blood circulation time but significantly increases drug accumulation in A549 tumor (5.3% injected dose per gram at 8 h post injection). Remarkably, SCPP-PS exhibits deep penetration in to A549 tumors. MTX-SCPP-PS completely inhibits tumor progression and significantly improves survival rates in mice bearing A549 lung tumor xenografts as compared to MTX-PS and free MTX groups (median survival time: 75 vs 45 and 38 d, respectively), without causing noticeable adverse effects. These results highlight that functionalization of nanomedicines with SCPP is a feasible strategy to achieve efficient and targeted tumor therapy.

Abstract
Developing wet-laid papers with a good wet strength remains a longstanding challenge in the papermaking industry. In this study, hydroentanglement, a mechanical bonding technique is developed to consolidate the wet-laid fibre web. The results indicate that wet tensile strength, ductile stretching property, softness, air permeability and water absorbency of the wet-laid fibre web are significantly improved by hydroentanglement. In addition, the abrasion test shows that the dusting off rate of wet-laid fibre web can be effectively reduced through hydroentanglement. Moreover, the disintegration experiment proves that wet-laid hydroentangled nonwovens could be easily dispersed when compared with conventional carded hydroentangled nonwovens. Therefore, the new wet-laid hydroentangled nonwovens can maintain excellent performance in a wet state, showing a great potential for personal hygiene applications.

Abstract
Objective: To discuss the clinical outcomes of treating delayed acetabular fractures by combined anterior and posterior approach. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of 31 delayed acetabular fractures from February 2012 to February 2017 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, including 18 males and 13 females with age of 48.5 years(23 to 67 years) .The injury to the operation time was 35.9 days(22 to 183 days). Of these 31 cases, there were 6 cases of transverse and posterior wall fracture, 8 cases with anterior column+ posterior half transverse fracture, 12 cases with double column fracture and 5 cases of "T" type fracture according to Letournel-Judet classification.All fractures were treated combined anterior and Kocher-Langenbeck approaches, including 13 cases of ilioinguinal approach+ Kocher-Langenbeck(K-L approach), 4 cases of extensile acetabular approach, 7 cases of stoppa approach + K-L approach and 7 cases of side rectus femoris approach.Correlation was analyzed by Pearson correlation regression testing. Results: Follow up to August 2017, all patients were followed up with 36.0 months(from 6 to 55 months). As calculated, the restorational effect was positively with result of the X-ray film and the clinical effect(r=0.823, 0.856; both P<0.05). The evaluation was conducted with Matta's reduction criteria: there were 11 cases classified as anatomic reduction(35.5%), 13 cases as satisfactory reduction(41.9%), and 7 cases as unsatisfactory reduction(22.6%). Excellent and good rate was 77.4%. Functional reductions were categorized by the standard of Matta hip score: 8 excellent cases(25.8%), 11 good cases(35.5%), 8 fail cases(25.8%), and 4 poor cases(12.9%). Conclusion: The treatment of delayed acetabular fracture by combined anterior and posterior approach can fully exposure the anterior and posterior acetabular fcloumns, which is beneficial to the release and fixation of the old acetabular fractures.

Abstract
The development of safe, easily accessible, and multifunctional nanocarriers is a big topic in nanomedicine research. Here, integrated multifunctional micelles (IMM) were developed by co-self-assembly of poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(l-lysine) derivatives with natural ferulic acid (FA) or lipoic acid (LA). FA confers IMM with intrinsic antitumor activity, improved loading of doxorubicin (DOX) through π-π stacking, and reduced DOX cardiotoxicity. LA provides IMM with reversible crosslinking property, which leads to a high colloidal stability with inhibited drug leakage and triggered intracellular DOX release. Notably, our results showed that cRGD-decorated IMM (cRGD-IMM) had a small size (≈56 nm) and superior loading of DOX (27.1 wt. %). Blank cRGD-IMM, though nontoxic to normal cells, exhibited obvious antiproliferative activity against cancer cells including B16F10 and HCT-116 cells at 150 μg FA equiv. mL-1 . DOX-loaded cRGD-IMM displayed enhanced growth inhibition of αv β3 -positive B16F10 and HCT-116 cells, a long elimination half-life of 3.85 h, and a high maximum-tolerated dose of over 100 mg DOX equiv. kg-1 . Histological analysis revealed that DOX-loaded cRGD-IMM at 100 mg DOX equiv. kg-1 caused negligible cardiotoxicity, which is a major issue for the clinical use of DOX. These integrated multifunctional micelles with excellent safety and accessibility have emerged as a new platform for targeted cancer chemotherapy.

Abstract
The D2 receptor partial agonist, aripiprazole, has shown increased therapeutic efficacy for schizophrenia, autism and Tourette's syndrome compared to traditional antipsychotics such as the D2 receptor antagonist, haloperidol. Recent evidence suggests this superior profile may be associated with downstream effects on glutamatergic synapses. Group 1 metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) and their endogenous modulators, Norbin and Homer1, are regulated by D2 receptor activity, particularly within the nucleus accumbens (NAc), a target region of aripiprazole and haloperidol. This study sought to evaluate the effects of aripiprazole on Group 1 mGluRs, Norbin and Homer1 in the NAc, in comparison to haloperidol. Sprague-Dawley rats were orally administered daily doses of aripiprazole (2.25mg/kg), haloperidol (0.3mg/kg) or vehicle for 1 or 10-weeks. Immunoblot analyses revealed Group 1 mGluR protein levels were not altered following 1-week and 10-week aripiprazole or haloperidol treatment, compared to vehicle treated rodents. However, 1-week aripiprazole and haloperidol treatment significantly elevated Homer1a and Norbin protein expression, respectively. After 10 weeks of treatment, aripiprazole, but not haloperidol, significantly increased Norbin expression. These findings indicate the antipsychotics, aripiprazole and haloperidol, exert differential temporal effects on Norbin and Homer1 expression that may have consequences on synaptic glutamatergic transmission underlying their therapeutic profile.

Abstract
Silent information regulator 6 (SIRT6), a class III histone deacetylase, has been revealed to participate in multiple metabolic processes in the liver, and it plays important roles in protecting against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in multiple organs. In this study, we explored whether SIRT6 is protective against hepatic I/R injury and elucidated the underlying mechanisms. The expression of SIRT6 was significantly decreased during reperfusion compared with the control group. SIRT6-LKO mice exhibited significantly aggravated oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammatory responses, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling activation, and apoptosis and autophagy related hepatocyte death compared with control mice. In vitro studies in SIRT6-KO hepatocytes exhibited similar results. In contrast, SIRT6 upregulation alleviated liver damage during hepatic I/R injury. Our study demonstrated for the first time that SIRT6 upregulation effectively protects against hepatic I/R injury. The underlying mechanisms involve the maintenance of oxidative homeostasis and mitochondrial function, which subsequently inhibit the inflammatory responses and MAPK signaling, and finally attenuate apoptosis and autophagy related hepatocyte death. These results suggest that the activation of SIRT6 exerts multifaceted protective effects during hepatic I/R injury, which can provide a novel therapeutic target for hepatic I/R injury.

Abstract
Growth arrest-specific 6, also known as Gas6, is a human gene encoding the Gas6 protein, which was originally found to be upregulated in growth-arrested fibroblasts. Gas6 is a member of the vitamin K-dependent family of proteins expressed in many human tissues and regulates several biological processes in cells, including proliferation, survival and migration, by binding to its receptors Tyro3, Axl and Mer (TAM). In recent years, the roles of Gas6/TAM signalling in cancer cells and the tumour microenvironment have been studied, and some progress has made in targeted therapy, providing new potential directions for future investigations of cancer treatment. In this review, we introduce the Gas6 and TAM receptors and describe their involvement in different cancers and discuss the roles of Gas6 in cancer cells, the tumour microenvironment and metastasis. Finally, we introduce recent studies on Gas6/TAM targeting in cancer therapy, which will assist in the experimental design of future analyses and increase the potential use of Gas6 as a therapeutic target for cancer.
