Abstract
Non-gastrointestinal stromal soft tissue sarcomas are uncommon neoplasms that have a dismal prognosis due to a high incidence of metastases and a poor response to conventional chemotherapy. The identification of characteristic genetic alterations in several of these tumors has opened the window for molecular targeted therapies in patients who have failed conventional chemotherapy. Imaging plays a critical role in assessing the response to these novel therapeutic agents. Just like the response of gastrointestinal stromal tumors to imatinib, the response of non-gastrointestinal stromal soft tissue sarcomas to molecular targeted drugs is better evaluated on imaging by alternate tumor response criteria such as the Choi criteria. In addition, these drugs are associated with distinct class-specific drug toxicities that can come to attention for the first time on imaging. The purpose of this article is to provide a primer for the radiologist on the various molecular targeted therapies in advanced/metastatic non-gastrointestinal stromal soft tissue sarcomas with emphasis on the role of imaging in assessing treatment response and complications.

Abstract
Peritoneal lymphomatosis is a rare manifestation of lymphoma, seen most frequently with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and it is important to be familiar with this condition, because early diagnosis directly affects the management of patients. This review illustrates the spectrum of imaging findings in peritoneal lymphomatosis, highlighting the use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography, showing common and uncommon subtypes of lymphoma associated with this entity, and how to differentiate it from peritoneal carcinomatosis and peritoneal sarcomatosis.

Abstract
Previous studies suggest that maternal characteristics may be associated with neonatal outcomes. However, the influence of maternal characteristics on birth weight (BW) has not been adequately determined in Korean populations. We investigated associations between maternal characteristics and BW in a sample of 813 Korean women living in the Seoul metropolitan area, Korea recruited using data from the prospective hospital-based COhort for Childhood Origin of Asthma and allergic diseases (COCOA) between 2007 and 2011. The mean maternal age at delivery was 32.3 ± 3.5 yr and prepregnancy maternal body mass index (BMI) was 20.7 ± 2.5 kg/m(2). The mean BW of infant was 3,196 ± 406 g. The overall prevalence of a maternal history of allergic disease was 32.9% and the overall prevalence of allergic symptoms was 65.1%. In multivariate regression models, prepregnancy maternal BMI and gestational age at delivery were positively and a maternal history of allergic disease and nulliparity were negatively associated with BW (all P < 0.05). Presence of allergic symptoms in the mother was not associated with BW. In conclusion, prepregnancy maternal BMI, gestational age at delivery, a maternal history of allergic disease, and nulliparity may be associated with BW, respectively.

Abstract
With ellipsometry, x-ray diffraction, and resistance measurements we investigated the electric-field effect on the confined electrons at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface. We obtained evidence that the localization of the electrons at negative gate voltage is induced, or at least enhanced, by a polar phase transition in SrTiO3 which strongly reduces the lattice polarizability and the subsequent screening. In particular, we show that the charge localization and the polar order of SrTiO3 both develop below ∼50 K and exhibit similar, unipolar hysteresis loops as a function of the gate voltage.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to evaluate the association between eosinophilic inflammation in induced sputum and pulmonary function and persistent airflow limitation in children. METHODS A total of 92 asthmatic children and 72 controls were enrolled in this study. Eosinophil count (%) and eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) levels were measured in induced sputum. We performed spirometry and a methacholine challenge test, and measured total eosinophil count, total serum IgE, and serum ECP in all subjects. RESULTS Asthmatic children had significantly higher levels of sputum eosinophils (9% vs. 0%; P < 0.001) and sputum ECP (2.3 ± 0.7 vs. 1.6 ± 0.6 log µg/L, p < .001) than controls. Sputum ECP levels showed a significant negative correlation with post-bronchodilator (post-BD) FEV(1) (r = -0.307; p = .001) and post-BD FEV(1)/FVC (r = -0.286; p = .002), whereas sputum eosinophils showed no correlation with post-BD FEV(1) and post-BD FEV(1)/FVC. However, no significant differences in sputum ECP and sputum eosinophil counts were observed in asthmatic children with and without persistent airflow limitation. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that sputum eosinophilic inflammation, especially ECP, is associated with pulmonary function and persistent airflow limitation, which is manifested by low post-BD FEV(1)/FVC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Eosinophilic bronchitis (EB) is a common cause of chronic cough. Although EB shares many immunopathologic features with asthma, it does not show airway hyperresponsiveness or reversible airway obstruction by spirometry. OBJECTIVE Compared to healthy children without pulmonary disease, we hypothesized that EB patients would demonstrate abnormal pulmonary function and inflammation with impulse oscillometry (IOS) and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), which are more sensitive tests of these parameters than spirometry. METHODS A total of 232 children with asthma, 109 with EB, and 115 control subjects were enrolled. We compared pulmonary function parameters and FeNO levels among the three groups. Additionally, we designated a screening cutoff value of FeNO combined with IOS parameters to distinguish EB from the control group, and identify which children with EB have more asthmatic characteristics. RESULTS By IOS, the bronchodilator response of the EB and asthma groups increased significantly compared to controls for both reactance at 5 Hz (Δ X5) and reactance area (Δ AX) (P < 0.0001). Cutoff values to distinguish EB from controls were a Δ X5 of -20% (sensitivity, 77.5%; specificity, 49.6%), and Δ AX of -30% (sensitivity, 75.0%; specificity, 46.0%), when the FeNO is 20 ppb. CONCLUSIONS Reversible airway obstruction in IOS and elevated FeNO levels can be detected in children with EB. This would support that EB in children shows airway characteristics similar to those of asthma, and that a continuum exists between asthma and EB.

Abstract
CONTEXT There are still some controversies regarding the cutoff value and the influential factors of thyroglobulin (Tg) concentration in washout fluid from fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy (FNA-Tg) on cervical lymph nodes (LNs) in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). OBJECTIVE Our aims were to validate the cutoff value of FNA-Tg in diagnosing malignant LNs on a large scale and to investigate the influential factors that could result in the discrepancy between the final diagnosis and FNA-Tg. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS We conducted a retrospective cohort study based on hospital records with 528 cases of FNA-Tg measurement from 419 PTC patients. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE The cutoff value of FNA-Tg was obtained from receiver operating characteristic analysis with final diagnosis. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the influential factors. RESULTS In the final diagnosis, 190 LNs were malignant, and 338 LNs were benign. The median FNA-Tg was 521.2 (3676.8) ng/mL in malignant LNs, and 0.1 (0.2) ng/mL in benign LNs. The optimal cutoff value of FNA-Tg in distinguishing malignant LNs from benign LNs was 1.0 ng/mL (sensitivity, 93.2%; specificity, 95.9%) in all cases. Combining FNA-Tg and FNA cytology showed superior diagnostic power (sensitivity, 98.4%; specificity, 94.4%) when compared with diagnostic strategy using either FNA cytology or FNA-Tg alone. FNA-Tg, serum TSH, and serum Tg were higher in nonthyroidectomized patients than in thyroidectomized patients (P < .001, respectively). FNA-Tg was correlated with serum TSH and Tg levels (P < .001, respectively), and binary logistic regression analysis showed that serum TSH suppression and serum Tg presence independently affected the diagnosis made by FNA-Tg. CONCLUSIONS Our results validated 1.0 ng/mL of FNA-Tg as a cutoff value for diagnosing LN metastasis of PTC and suggested that serum TSH suppression and serum Tg presence should be considered in diagnosing LN malignancy with FNA-Tg in PTC patients.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the temporal evolution and diagnostic values of the diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and the high b value diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) in the early permanent and transient cerebral ischemia. Materials and Methods For permanent or 30-minute transient-ischemia induced 30 rats, DTI and DWIs at both high b (b = 3000 s/mm2) and standard b value (b = 1000 s/mm2) were obtained at the following conditions: at 15, 30, 45, 60 minutes after the occlusion of what for hyperacute permanent ischemia; at 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 hours after the occlusion for acute permanent ischemia; and at 15 minutes before reperfusion, 0.5, 2.5, and 24 hours after reperfusion for transient ischemia. The diffusion parameters and their ratios were obtained and compared between different b values, and among different time points and groups, respectively. Results For both b values, the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) ratio decreased for first three hours, and then slightly increased until 9 hours after the occlusion during a gradual continuous increase of DWI signal intensity (SI) ratio, with excellent correlation between ADC ratios and DWI SI ratios. The DWI showed a higher contrast ratio, but the ADC map showed a lower contrast ratio for permanent ischemia at high b value than at standard b value. Fractional anisotropy (FA) increased for 1 hour, then gradually decreased until 9 hours after the occlusion in permanent ischemia and showed transient normalization and secondary decay along with change in ADC in transient ischemia. Conclusion This study presents characteristic initial elevation and secondary decay of FA, higher contrast ratio of DWI, and lower contrast ratio of ADC map at high b value, in addition to the time evolutions of diffusion parameters in early permanent and transient ischemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine in vivo efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in porcine liver by using 15-gauge Octopus® (15-G Octopus®) electrodes to create a large coagulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 18 coagulations were created by using a 180-W generator and 15-G Octopus® electrodes during laparotomy, performed in 14 pigs. Coagulation necrosis was created in the pig livers by the use of one of three RFA protocols: 1) group A, monopolar RFA using a 15-G Octopus® electrode with a 5-mm inter-electrode distance (n = 4); 2) group B, monopolar RFA using a 15-G Octopus® electrode with a 10-mm inter-electrode distance (n = 6); and 3) group C, switching monopolar RFA using two 15-G Octopus® electrodes (n = 8). The energy efficiency, shape, maximum and minimum diameters (Dmx and Dmi), and the volume of the coagulation volume were measured in each group. The Summary statistics were obtained and Mann-Whitney test was were performed. RESULTS The mean ablated volume of each group was 49.23 cm(3) in A, 64.11 cm(3) in B, and 72.35 cm(3) in C. The mean Dmx and Dmi values were 5.68 cm and 4.58 cm in A and 5.97 cm and 4.97 cm in B, respectively. In group C, the mean diameters of Dmx and Dmi were 6.80 cm and 5.11 cm, respectively. The mean ratios of Dmi/Dmx were 1.25, 1.20, and 1.35 in groups A, B, and C, respectively. There was one animal death during the RFA procedure, the cause of which could not be subsequently determined. However, there were no other significant, procedure-related complications during the seven-hour-delayed CT scans. CONCLUSION RFA procedures using 15-G Octopus® electrodes are useful and safe for creating a large ablation in a single electrode model as well as in the multiple electrodes model.

Abstract
Ipilimumab is a novel immunomodulator demonstrating promising efficacy in treatment of melanoma and other cancers. The clinical benefit from ipilimumab can be hampered by the immure-related adverse events (irAEs) caused by dysregulation of host immune system. Ipilimumab associated hepatitis is also an important irAE, however, there have been limited descriptions of its clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics. We aim to describe the clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics of 6 patients who were diagnosed as ipilimumab associated hepatitis during the ipilimumab treatment for melanoma. The clinical features of these patients were as follows: (1) severe cases with systemic symptoms and highly increased level of liver function tests (LFTs), and (2) mild asymptomatic cases with mildly increased level of LFTs. In severe cases with ALT >1,000 IU/L, imaging findings were characterized by mild hepatomegaly, periportal edema, and periportal lymphadenopathy, while mild cases showed normal imaging findings. This spectrum of imaging findings in our series was similar to that of common causes of acute hepatitis. Among 3 cases with pathologic specimen, two cases showed severe panlobular hepatitis with prominent perivenular infiltrate with endothelialitis, suggestive of predominant injury to hepatocytes, while the other case showed mild portal mononuclear infiltrate around proliferated bile ductules, suggestive of predominant injury to bile ducts. In summary, ipilimumab associated hepatitis may demonstrate variable imaging findings according to its clinical severity, and histologically may manifest either as a predominant injury to hepatocytes (acute hepatitis pattern) or as a predominant injury to bile ducts (biliary pattern).

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) play a pivotal role in tumoriogenesis of human cancers, including advanced thyroid cancers. A recent study demonstrated that the increased density of TAMs was positively associated with lymph node (LN) metastasis in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). The purpose of this study was to investigate the functional role of TMA in PTC. Method: Immunohistochemistry with anti-CD68 antibody was performed in 35 PTC patients who had LN metastasis. Co-culture of human PTC (SNU-790) cells and activated human monocytes (THP-1) by macrophage-colony stimulating factor (M-CSF, 50ng/ml) were performed and cell survival rates were analyzed by MTT assay. Result: Among 35 patients, 9 were male and 26 were females. Mean age was 48.9 ± 13.4 years and mean tumor size was 0.94 ± 0.51 cm. Twenty six (74.2%) patients had extrathyroidal invasion. Immunohistochemical staining of primary tumor showed that the expression of CD68 was presence in 3~15% of the peri- and intratumoral areas in all cases, while there was no positivity in normal thyroid tissue adjacent to tumors. In vitro stimulation of THP-1 cells with M-CSF showed significant increase of IL-10 by 7~8 fold compared to vehicle treated cells. Co-culture of SNU-790 cells with M-CSF stimulated THP-1 cells showed higher survival rates than control. Conclusions: TAMs exist in invasive human PTC specifically in intratumoral areas. Activated human monocytes, representing TAM phenotypes support tumor cell survival. Collectively, TAMs may have a functional role in tumor microenvironment of human PTC.

Abstract
Vascular disrupting agents (VDAs) are new class of anti-cancer drugs targeting pre-existing tumor vasculature which lead to tumor ischemia and necrosis. An innovative tubulin polymerization inhibitor, CKD-516, was recently developed as a VDA. We attempted to evaluate its tubulin destabilizing effect using immunofluorescence staining on human endothelial cells (HUVECs) and to ascertain its antivascular effect in a rabbit VX2 tumor model using dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI by measuring the changes in kinetic parameters such as K-trans and IAUGC. Immunofluorescence staining using anti-tubulin and anti-actin antibodies on HUVECs showed that CKD-516 selectively disrupted tubulin component of the endothelial cytoskeleton. Serial DCE-MRI showed a significant decrease in K-trans and IAUGC parameters from baseline at 4 h (39.9 % in K-trans; -45.0 % in IAUGC) and at 24 h (-32.2 % in K-trans; -36.5 % in IAUGC), and a significant recovery at 48 h (22.9 % in K-trans; 34.8 % in IAUGC) following administration of CKD-516 at a 0.7-mg/kg dose. When the tumors were stratified according to the initial K-trans value of 0.1, tumors with a high K-trans > 0.1 which was indicative of having well-developed pre-existing vessels, showed greater reduction in K-trans and IAUGC values. On histologic examination, the degree of necrosis of treated tumors was significantly greater than that of untreated tumors. In summary, CKD-516 is an effective VDA which results in rapid vascular shutdown by targeting the tubulin component of tumor vessels and thus leads to necrosis.

Abstract
AIM Asthma is a heterogeneous and complex chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. Asthma can be classified as eosinophilic asthma (EA) or noneosinophilic asthma (NEA). We investigated whether children with EA manifest different clinical characteristics than those with NEA. METHODS We enrolled 288 steroid-naive asthmatic children and classified them, based on the cell counts in induced sputum, into EA (158 children) and NEA (89 children) groups. RESULTS No significant differences were observed between the groups with regard to age, sex, family history of atopy, secondary smoking or asthma exacerbations. Moderate-to-severe asthma was more frequent in the EA group than in the NEA group. Blood eosinophil counts and serum eosinophil cationic protein were higher in EA patients than in NEA patients. The forced expiratory volume in 1 sec was lower in children with EA than in those with NEA (% of predicted value, 88.6 ± 18.5 vs. 93.6 ± 15.6, p < 0.05). The sputum eosinophil (in EA) and neutrophil (in NEA) counts increased with increasing asthma severity. CONCLUSION Airway inflammation, especially eosinophilic inflammation, was associated with asthma severity and reduced pulmonary function in children.

Abstract
Eosinopenia, a biomarker for infection, has recently been shown to be a predictor of adult mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU). Our study assessed the usefulness of eosinopenia as a mortality and an infection biomarker in the pediatric ICU (PICU). We compared the PICU mortality scores, eosinophil count and percentage at ICU admission between children who survived and those who did not survive and between children with infection and those without infection. A total of 150 patients were evaluated. The initial eosinophil count and percentage were significantly lower in the group that did not survive when compared to those that did survive (P < 0.001; P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in the eosinophil count and percentage seen in patients with and without infection. Eosinopenia, defined as an eosinophil count < 15 cells/µL and an eosinophil percentage < 0.25%, (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.96; P = 0.008) along with a Pediatric Index of Mortality (PIM) 2 (HR: 1.03; P = 0.004) were both determined to be independent predictors of mortality in the PICU. The presence of eosinopenia at the ICU admission can be a useful biomarker for mortality in children, but is not useful as a biomarker for infection.
