Abstract
The response of a large cylindrical 76mm×76mm (height×diameter) cerium tribromide (CeBr3) detector was measured for prompt gamma rays. The total intrinsic activity of the CeBr3 detector, which was measured over 0.33-3.33MeV range, was found to be 0.022±0.001 counts/s/cm(3). The partial intrinsic activity ( due to (227)Ac contamination), was measured over a energy range of 1.22-2.20MeV energy, was found to be 0.007±0.001 counts/s/cm(3). Compared to intrinsic activities of LaBr3:Ce and LaCl3:Ce detectors of equivalent volume, the CeBr3 detector has 7-8 times less total intrinsic activity. The detector response for low energy prompt gamma rays was measured over 0.3-0.6MeVgamma energy range using a portable neutron generator-based Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) setup. The experimental yield of boron, cadmium and mercury prompt gamma-rays was measured from water samples contaminated with 0.75-2.5wt% mercury, 0.31-2.50wt% boron, and 0.0625-0.500wt% cadmium, respectively. An excellent agreement has been observed between the calculated and experimental yields of the gamma rays. Also minimum detection limit (MDC) of the CeBr3 detector was measured for boron, cadmium and mercury samples. The CeBr3 detector has 23% smaller value of MDCB and 18% larger value of MDCCd than those of a LaBr3:Ce detector of equivalent size. This study has shown that CeBr3 detector has an excellent response for the low energy prompt gamma-rays with almost an order of magnitude low intrinsic activity as compared to LaCl3:Ce and LaBr3:Ce detectors of equivalent volume.

Abstract
In the structure of the title compound, [CdCl2(C4H8N2S)2], the Cd(II) atom is coordinated by two chloride ions and two 1,3-diazinane-2-thione (Diaz) mol-ecules through their S atoms. The geometry around the Cd(II) atom is distorted tetra-hedral, with bond angles in the range 101.55 (7)-117.91 (8)°. The CH2 groups of one Diaz ligand are disordered over two sets of sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.711 (12):0.289 (12). The mol-ecular structure is stabilized by intra-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, generating a butterfly syn conformation. Inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl and N-H⋯S inter-actions lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure. The structure has been determined from a crystal twinned by nonmerohedry, by a 180° rotation around the reciprocal c axis. The twin ratio refined to 0.8866 (6):0.1134 (6).

Abstract
The mol-ecular structure of the title compound, [HgCl2(C3H8N2S)2], has point group symmetry 2, with the twofold rotation axis passing through the Hg(II) atom. The latter is coordinated by two Cl atoms and two N,N'-di-methyl-thio-urea (Dmtu) ligands through their S atoms, defining a distorted tetra-hedral coordination sphere with bond angles in the range 102.47 (4)-118.32 (4)°. Intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds of the type N-H⋯Cl with S(6) and R 2 (2)(12) ring motifs are present. The inter-molecular contacts make up polymeric chains extending parallel to [101].

Abstract
The pulse height response of a large diameter fast 100 mm × 100 mm LaBr3:Ce detector was measured for 0.1-10 MeV gamma-rays. The detector has a claimed time resolution of 608 ps for 511 keV gamma rays, but has relatively poor energy resolution due to the characteristics of its fast photomultiplier. The detector pulse height response was measured for gamma rays from cobalt, cesium, and bismuth radioisotope sources as well as prompt gamma rays from thermal neutron capture in water samples contaminated with mercury (3.1 wt%), boron (2.5 wt%), cadmium (0.25 wt%), chromium (52 wt%), and nickel (22 wt%) compounds. The energy resolution of the detector was determined from full width at half maximum (FWHM) of element-characteristic gamma ray peaks in the pulse height spectrum associated with the element present in the contaminated water sample. The measured energy resolution of the 100 mm × 100 mm detector varies from 12.7±0.2% to 1.9±0.1% for 0.1 to 10 MeV gamma rays, respectively. The graph showing the energy resolution ΔE/E(%) versus 1/√Eγ was fitted with a linear function to study the detector light collection from the slope of the curve. The slope of the present 100 mm × 100 mm detector is almost twice as large as the slope of a similar curve of previously published data for a 89 mm × 203 mm LaBr3:Ce detector. This indicates almost two times poorer light collection in the 100 mm × 100 mm detector as compared to the other detector.

Abstract
Abstract
Silver(I) complexes of thioureas and thiocyanate, [(Tu)AgSCN], [(Metu)AgSCN], [(Dmtu)AgSCN], [(Tmtu)(AgSCN)1.5], [(Imt)AgSCN], and [(Diaz)AgSCN] (where Tu = thiourea, Metu = N-methylthiourea, Dmtu = N,N′-dimethylthiourea, Tmtu = N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylthiourea, Imt = 1,3-imidazolidine-2-thione, and Diaz = 1,3-diazinane-2-thione), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. The crystal structure of one of them, [(Diaz)Ag(SCN)] (1), was determined by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structure of 1 shows that the complex exists in the form of a chain-like polymer comprising [Ag(μ
2-Diaz)(μ
2-SCN)] units. The silver atoms are bridged by μ
2-thione sulfur atoms of Diaz and μ
2-thiocyanate sulfur atoms. Thereby each silver atom adopts a distorted tetrahedral coordination environment comprising four sulfur atoms, two from thione and two from thiocyanate ligands. An upfield shift in the >C=S resonance of thiones in 13C NMR and a downfield shift in the N–H resonance in 1H NMR are consistent with the sulfur coordination to silver(I). The appearance of a band around 2100 cm–1 in the IR and a resonance around 125 ppm in the 13C NMR spectrum indicates the binding of thiocyanate to silver(I).

Abstract
The gold(III) complexes of the type [(DACH)Au(en)]Cl3, 1,2-Diaminocyclohexane ethylenediamine gold(III) chloride [where 1,2-DACH = cis-, trans-1,2- and S,S-1,2diaminocyclohexane and en = ethylenediamine] have been synthesized and characterized using various analytical and spectroscopic techniques including elemental analysis, UV-Vis and FTIR spectra; and solution as well as solid-state NMR measurements. The solid-state (13)C NMR shows that 1,2-diaminocyclohexane (1,2-DACH) and ethylenediamine (en) are strongly bound to the gold(III) center via N donor atoms. The stability of the mixed diamine ligand gold(III) was determined by (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra. Their electrochemical behavior was studied by cyclic voltammetry. The structural details and relative stabilities of the four possible isomers of the complexes were also reported at the B3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theory. The coordination sphere of these complexes around gold(III) center adopts distorted square planar geometry. The computational study also demonstrates that trans- conformations is slightly more stable than the cis-conformations. The antiproliferative effects and cytotoxic properties of the mixed diamine ligand gold(III) complexes were evaluated in vitro on human gastric SGC7901 and prostate PC3 cancer cells using MTT assay. The antiproliferative study of the gold(III) complexes on PC3 and SGC7901 cells indicate that complex 1 is the most effective antiproliferative agent among mixed ligand based gold(III) complexes 1-3. The IC50 data reveal that the in vitro cytotoxicity of complexes 1 and 3 against SGC7901 cancer cells are fairly better than that of cisplatin.

Abstract
Recent advances in oncology are focused on developing new complexes of gold(III) with various ligands that show augmented anti-proliferative potential and reduced toxicity as compared to cis-platin. In this study, new Au(III) complexes of the type [(thione)2Au(diamine)]Cl3 are reported, where thione=1,3-imidazolidine-2-thione (Imt), 1,3-Diazinane-2-thione (Diaz) and diamine=1,2-diaminoethane (en), 1,3-diaminopropane (pn) or 1,4-diaminobutane (bn). The solid state IR as well as (13)C and (15)N NMR data indicate that Au(III) center is bonded via sulfur of thiocarbonyl SC site of the thiones and also chelated by the diamines from the trans side of coordinated thiones. Spectroscopic data are evaluated by comparisons with calculated data from the built and optimized structure by GAUSSIAN 09 at the RB3LYP level with LanL2DZ bases set. These new Au(III) complexes based on mixed thione and diamine ligands are very similar to the square planar structure of tetracoordinate [Au(en)2]Cl3complex. In this study, cytotoxicity data for these gold(III) complexes against C6 glioma cell lines are also reported, and the results indicate some complexes have cytotoxicity comparable to cis-platin.

Abstract
Hydrogen, carbon and oxygen concentrations were measured in caffeine, urea, ammonium acetate and melamine bulk samples via 14 MeV neutron inelastic scattering using a LaBr3:Ce detector. The samples tested herein represent drugs, explosives and benign materials, respectively. Despite its intrinsic activity, the LaBr3:Ce detector performed well in detecting the hydrogen, carbon and oxygen elements. Because 5.1 MeV nitrogen gamma rays interfere with silicon and calcium prompt gamma rays from the room background, the nitrogen peak was not detected in the samples. An excellent agreement was observed between the experimental and theoretical yields of 2.22, 4.43 and 6.13 MeV gamma rays from the analyzed samples as a function of H, C and O concentrations, respectively. Within statistical errors, the minimum detectable concentration (MDC) of hydrogen, carbon and oxygen elements in the tested materials were consistent with previously reported MDC values for these elements measured in hydrocarbon samples.

Abstract
Introduction Development of novel metallodrugs with enhanced anti-proliferative potential and reduced toxicity has become the prime focus of the evolving medicinal chemistry. In this regards, gold (III) complexes with various ligands are being extensively investigated. In the current study renal and hepatic toxicity of a newly developed gold (III) compound [Au(en)Cl2]Cl was assessed by histopathological evaluation of liver and kidney specimens of rats exposed to the compound. Methods Male rats (n = 42) weighing 200–250 gram were injected single, varying doses of gold (III) compound [(dichlorido(ethylenediamine)aurate((III)]chloride [Au(en)Cl2]Cl in the acute toxicity component of the study. In the sub-acute toxicity part, a dose of 32.2 mg/kg (equivalent to 1/10 of LD50) was administered intraperitoneally for 14 consecutive days before sacrificing the animals. After autopsy, the renal and hepatic tissues were preserved in buffered formalin. Processing of the samples was followed by histopathological evaluation. The results were compared with the normal controls (n = 11). Results A dose of 32.2 mg/kg (1/10 of LD50) revealed no renal tubular necrosis. The predominant histopathological finding was mild pyelitis, a prominence of eosinophils and mild congestion. The hepatic lesions comprised varying extents of ballooning degeneration with accompanying congestion and focal portal inflammation. Conclusion Gold (III) compound [Au(en)Cl2]Cl causes minimal histological changes in kidney and liver of rats, reflecting its relative safety as compared to other clinically established antineoplastic drugs.

Abstract
In the title complex, [Cd(CH3COO)2(C4H8N2S)2], the CdII cation is coordinated by three acetate O atoms and two S atoms of Diaz [Diaz = 1,3-diazinane-2-thione = 3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione]. The CdII coordination is augmented by one considerably longer Cd—O bond of 2.782 (3) Å to a carboxylate O atom. The resulting coordination polyhedron around the CdII cations can be described as a highly distorted octahedron. The Diaz ligand and the acetate anions are linked by N—H⋯O hydrogen-bonding interactions.

Abstract
The yield of 478 and 558 keV gamma-rays have been measured from water samples containing 0.031-0.500 wt. % boron and 0.0625-0.500 wt. % cadmium, respectively, using a cylindrical 76 mm × 76 mm (height × diameter) LaCl(3):Ce detector. Inspite of interferences between detector-associated and the sample-associated prompt gamma rays, the LaCl(3):Ce detector has excellent resolution for the low energy prompt gamma-rays. An excellent agreement has been observed between the experimental and calculated yield of boron and cadmium prompt gamma ray from water samples.

Abstract
Two Au(III) complexes of the type [Au(en)2]Cl3 (2a) and [Au(N-pr-en)2]Cl3 (3a) were synthesized by reacting Auric acid (HAuCl(4)·3H2O) with 2 equiv. ethylenediamine (en) or N-alkyl substituted ethylenediamine ligands. This metallodrug was characterized by various analytical and spectroscopic techniques such as elemental analysis, UV-Vis, Far-IR, 1H NMR and solution 13C as well as solid 13C and 15N NMR. Potentiality of [Au(en)2]Cl3 and [Au(N-pr-en)2]Cl3 as an anti-cancer agent were investigated by measuring some relevant physicochemical and biochemical properties such as stability of Au-N bonds by vibrational stretching from Far IR as well as cytotoxicity and stomach cancer cell inhibiting effect, respectively. The solid-state 15N NMR chemical shift shows that the ligand is strongly bound to gold(III) centre via N atoms. The computational study of 2a shows that the gold coordination sphere adopts distorted square planar geometry with bidentate ethylenediamine ligands acting as a tetradentate chelate. While stable in the solution state, the in vitro biological studies performed with these compounds 2a in solution showed higher activity towards the inhibitory effects of the human cancer cell lines such as prostate cancer (PC-3) and gastric carcinoma (SGC-7901) than that of the N-substituted gold(III) complex (3a). Cytotoxicity of the new compounds has also been estimated in PC-3 and SGC-7901 cells.

Abstract
Seleno-auranofin (SeAF), an analogue of auranofin (AF), the orally active antiarthritic gold drug in clinical use, was synthesized and has been characterized by an array of physical techniques and biological assays. The Mössbauer and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) parameters of the solid compound demonstrate a linear P-Au-Se coordination environment at a gold(I) center, analogous to the structure of auranofin. The (31)P, (13)C, and (1)H NMR spectra of SeAF in chloroform solution closely resemble those of auranofin. The (77)Se spectrum consists of a singlet at 481 ppm, consistent with a metal-bound selenolate ligand. The absence of (2)J(PSe) coupling in the (31)P and (77)Se spectra may arise from dynamic processes occurring in solution or because the (2)J(PSe) coupling constants are smaller than the observed bandwidths. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) spectra of SeAF in 50:50 methanol-water exhibited strong signals for [(Et(3)P)(2)Au](+), [(Et(3)PAu)(2)-mu-Se-tagl](+), and [Au(Se-tagl)(2)](-), which arise from ligand scrambling reactions. Three assays of the anti-inflammatory activity of SeAF allowed comparison to AF. SeAF exhibited comparable activity in the topically administered murine arachadonic acid-induced and phorbol ester-induced anti-inflammatory assays but was inactive in the orally administered carrageenan-induced assay in rats. However, in vivo serum gold levels were comparable in the rat, suggesting that differences between the in vivo metabolism of the two compounds, leading to differences in transport to the inflamed site, may account for the differential activity in the carrageenan-induced assay. Reactions of serum albumin, the principal transport protein of gold in the serum, demonstrated formation of AlbSAuPEt(3) at cysteine 34 and provided evidence for facile reduction of disulfide bonds at cysteine 34 and very rapid formation of Et(3)P=O, a known metabolite of auranofin.
