Abstract
Iron (Fe)-based nanozymes are widely applied in the biomedical field due to their enzyme-like catalytic activity. Herein, Fe(ii)-based coordination polymer nanohydrogels (FeCPNGs) have been conveniently prepared as a new type of nanozyme by the chelation reaction between ferrous iron and polymer nanohydrogels. The P(VCL-co-NMAM) nanohydrogels prepared by a reflux precipitation polymerization method using N-vinylcaprolactam (VCL) and N-methylol acrylamide (NMAM) as monomers and N,N-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker were esterified using P2O5 and then chelated with Fe(ii) ions to form nanozymes with peroxidase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. It was found by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) that the nanohydrogels prepared with a monomer concentration of 4% and mass ratio of 1 : 1 (VCL : NMAM) had more uniform particle size, better dispersion and a distinct temperature response. The results of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), DLS, TEM, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated the successful preparation of the esterified nanohydrogel and FeCPNGs. Of particular importance is that such FeCPNGs can functionally mimic two antioxidant enzymes (peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) by UV analysis of catalytic oxidation between 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and H2O2 and the kit analysis of SOD-like activity.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate DICER1 hotspot mutations in ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor (SLCT) and its associated clinicopathological features. Methods: Forty-three SLCTs and 40 other sex cord-stromal tumors (SCSTs) diagnosed between 2010 and 2017 at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center were examined for somatic DICER1 hotspot mutations by Sanger sequencing. The associations between mutation status and clinicopathological features, including patient age, tumor differentiation and recurrence, were analyzed. Results: Somatic DICER1 mutations were found in 51% (22/43) of SLCTs, while none in the other 40 SCSTs. The most common mutation of DICER1 was p.D1709N in exon 24 (41%, 9/22) and the second most common mutation of DICER1 was p.E1813K in exon 25 (14%, 3/22). A novel frameshift mutation (c.5464delG, p.M1837fs*16) was identified in one SLCT with microcystic pattern. Mutations were more likely to occur in patients under forty years of age (P=0.046), whereas no significant associations were found between DICER1 mutations and clinical symptoms, morphology or tumor recurrence. Conclusions: Somatic DCIER1 hotspot mutations are specifically found in SLCT and may serve as an ancillary marker in differential diagnosis of SLCT from other SCST. The mutations occur more often in young patients (<40 years old). Additional studies are warranted to examine the associations between DICER1 mutations and clinicopathological features and prognosis of SLCT.

Abstract
Oral mucositis (OM), a common debilitating toxicity associated with chemo- and radiation therapies, is a significant unmet clinical need for head and neck cancer patients. The biological complexities of chemoradiotherapy-induced OM involve interactions among disrupted tissue structures, inflammatory infiltrations, and oral microbiome, whereby several master inflammatory pathways constitute the complicated regulatory networks. Oral mucosal damages triggered by chemoradiotherapy-induced cell apoptosis were further exacerbated by the amplified inflammatory cascades dominantly governed by the innate immune responses. The coexistence of microbiome and innate immune components in oral mucosal barriers indicates that a signaling hub coordinates the interaction between environmental cues and host cells during tissue and immune homeostasis. Dysbiotic shifts in oral microbiota caused by cytotoxic cancer therapies may also contribute to the progression and severity of chemoradiotherapy-induced OM. In this review, we have updated the mechanisms involving innate immunity-governed inflammatory cascades in the pathobiology of chemoradiotherapy-induced OM and the development of new interventional targets for the management of this severe morbidity in head and neck cancer patients.

Abstract
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K^{+}p⊕K^{-}p[over ¯]) and (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) pairs measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) with a significance of 4.4σ constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the (K[over ¯]^{0}n⊕K^{0}n[over ¯]) isospin breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Jülich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the K[over ¯]N threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Not all tandem occlusions diagnosed on traditional vascular imaging modalities, such as MRA, represent actual complete ICA occlusion. This study aimed to explore the utility of high-resolution vessel wall imaging in identifying true ICA tandem occlusions and screening patients for their suitability for endovascular recanalization. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with no signal in the ICA on MRA were retrospectively reviewed. Two neuroradiologists independently reviewed their high-resolution vessel wall images to assess whether there were true tandem occlusions and categorized all cases into intracranial ICA occlusion, extracranial ICA occlusion, tandem occlusion, or near-occlusion. DSA classified patient images into the same 4 categories, which were used as the comparison with high-resolution vessel wall imaging. The suitability for recanalization of occluded vessels was evaluated on high-resolution vessel wall imaging compared with DSA. RESULTS Forty-five patients with no ICA signal on MRA who had available high-resolution vessel wall imaging and DSA images were included. Among the 34 patients (34/45, 75.6%) with tandem occlusions on DSA, 18 cases also showed tandem occlusions on high-resolution vessel wall imaging. The remaining 16 patients, intracranial ICA, extracranial ICA occlusions and near-occlusions were found in 2, 6, and 8 patients, respectively, on the basis of high-resolution vessel wall imaging. A total of 20 cases (20/45, 44.4%) were considered suitable for recanalization on the basis of both DSA and high-resolution vessel wall imaging. Among the 25 patients deemed unsuitable for recanalization by DSA, 11 were deemed suitable for recanalization by high-resolution vessel wall imaging. CONCLUSIONS High-resolution vessel wall imaging could allow identification of true ICA tandem occlusion in patients with an absence of signal on MRA. Findings on high-resolution vessel wall imaging can be used to screen more suitable candidates for recanalization therapy.

Recently, various second near-infrared window (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) fluorophores have been synthesized for in vivo imaging with nonradiation, high resolution, and low autofluorescence. However, most of the NIR-II fluorophores, especially inorganic nanoprobes, are mainly retained in the reticuloendothelial system (RES) such as the liver and spleen, leading to long-term safety concerns. Herein, a type of lanthanide-based excretable NIR-II nanoparticle, RENPs@Lips, which can be quickly cleared out of body after intravenous administration with half-lives of 23.0 h for the liver and 14.9 h for the spleen, is reported. Interestingly, over 90% of RENPs@Lips can be excreted through a hepatobiliary system within 72 h postinjection. The moderate blood half-time (T 1/2 = 17.96 min) allows for multifunctional applications in delineating the hemodynamics of vascular disorders (artery thrombosis, ischemia, and tumor angiogenesis) and monitoring blood perfusion in response to acute ischemia. In addition, RENPs@Lips exhibit high performance in identifying orthotopic tumor vessels intraoperatively and embolization surgery under NIR-II imaging navigation. Moreover, excellent signal-to-background ratio (SBR) is successfully achieved to facilitate sentinel lymph nodes biopsy (SLNB) with tumor-bearing mice. The high biocompatibility, favorable excretability, and outstanding optical properties warrant RENPs@Lips as novel promising NIR-II nanoparticles for future applications and translation into an interdisciplinary amalgamation of research in diverse fields.

Measurement of ϒ(1S) Elliptic Flow at Forward Rapidity in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 123:192301. Abstract
The first measurement of the ϒ(1S) elliptic flow coefficient (v_{2}) is performed at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The results are obtained with the scalar product method and are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p_{T}) up to 15 GeV/c in the 5%-60% centrality interval. The measured ϒ(1S)v_{2} is consistent with 0 and with the small positive values predicted by transport models within uncertainties. The v_{2} coefficient in 2<p_{T}<15 GeV/c is lower than that of inclusive J/ψ mesons in the same p_{T} interval by 2.6 standard deviations. These results, combined with earlier suppression measurements, are in agreement with a scenario in which the ϒ(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is dominated by dissociation limited to the early stage of the collision, whereas in the J/ψ case there is substantial experimental evidence of an additional regeneration component.

Investigations of Anisotropic Flow Using Multiparticle Azimuthal Correlations in pp, p-Pb, Xe-Xe, and Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 123:142301. Abstract
Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients (v_{n}) and their cross-correlations using two- and multiparticle cumulant methods are reported in collisions of pp at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, p-Pb at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, Xe-Xe at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV, and Pb-Pb at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The multiplicity dependence of v_{n} is studied in a very wide range from 20 to 3000 particles produced in the midrapidity region |η|<0.8 for the transverse momentum range 0.2<p_{T}<3.0 GeV/c. An ordering of the coefficients v_{2}>v_{3}>v_{4} is found in pp and p-Pb collisions, similar to that seen in large collision systems, while a weak v_{2} multiplicity dependence is observed relative to nucleus-nucleus collisions in the same multiplicity range. Using a novel subevent method, v_{2} measured with four-particle cumulants is found to be compatible with that from six-particle cumulants in pp and p-Pb collisions. The magnitude of the correlation between v_{n}^{2} and v_{m}^{2}, evaluated with the symmetric cumulants SC(m,n) is observed to be positive at all multiplicities for v_{2} and v_{4}, while for v_{2} and v_{3} it is negative and changes sign for multiplicities below 100, which may indicate a different v_{n} fluctuation pattern in this multiplicity range. The observed long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlations in high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions can neither be described by pythia 8 nor by impact-parameter-Glasma, music, and ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model calculations, and hence, provide new insights into the understanding of collective effects in small collision systems.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental observation of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a multistrange baryon (hyperon) Ξ^{-}. The result is extracted from two-particle correlations of combined p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} pairs measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The measured correlation function is compared with the prediction obtained assuming only an attractive Coulomb interaction and a standard deviation in the range [3.6, 5.3] is found. Since the measured p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} correlation is significantly enhanced with respect to the Coulomb prediction, the presence of an additional, strong, attractive interaction is evident. The data are compatible with recent lattice calculations by the HAL-QCD Collaboration, with a standard deviation in the range [1.8, 3.7]. The lattice potential predicts a shallow repulsive Ξ^{-} interaction within pure neutron matter and this implies stiffer equations of state for neutron-rich matter including hyperons. Implications of the strong interaction for the modeling of neutron stars are discussed.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of SMARCA4 (BRG1) and SMARCB1 (INI-1) protein in endometrial dedifferentiated carcinoma (DDC) and undifferentiated carcinoma (UDC), and their correlation with clinicopathologic features. Methods: Clinicopathological information was gathered for 26 cases of DDC and UDC and consulting hospitals from January, 2006 to December, 2018 in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, including 10 cases of DDC and 16 cases of UDC. Morphologic features and diagnosis were reviewed by two pathologists. Immunohistochemistry for expression of BRG1 and INI1 protein was performed. The correlations with clinicopathologic features were analyzed. Results: BRG1 and INI1 loss were present in 14 of 26 cases of DDC/UDC, including 12 BRG1-deficient cases and 2 INI1-deficient cases, respectively. Six cases demonstrated variable amounts of rhabdoid cells in 14 BRG1/INI1-deficient cases, and only 1 case showed rhabdoid cells in the 12 intact expression cases. However, there was no significantly statistical difference (P=0.060). Age, invasive depth, lymph node status and FIGO stage were not associated with the expression of the BRG1 and INI1 (P=0.437, P=0.672, P=0.242, P=0.348). Remarkably, the BGR1/INI1-deficient patients had worse survival than those with intact expression (4.7 vs. 22.9, P=0.033). Conclusion: BRG1/INI1-deficient is observed in approximately half of DDC and UDC. Identification of these tumors is clinically relevant due to their more aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. Hence, BRG1 and INI1 immunohistochemical stains should be performed for DDC and UDC in order to help the pathologists to distinguish these tumors from other carcinomas, and to predict the clinical prognosis.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate clinicopathological, cytogenetic features and differential diagnoses of high grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (HGESS) with BCOR gene rearrangement. Methods: Five cases of HGESS with BCOR rearrangement were collected from consultant files (2016-2018) at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. Interphase FISH was performed using a dual color break-apart probe. The clinical data, histologic features and immunohistochemical findings were reviewed. Results: All 5 cases occurred in adult women with a median age of 48 (range, 45-55) years. Abdominal pain and abnormal vaginal bleeding were the most common symptoms. Microscopically, the tumors showed mainly tongue-like and/or intersecting myometrial invasion. Stromal myxoid matrix and/or collagen plaques were prominent in all the cases. Most tumors consisted of uniform, haphazard fascicles of short spindle cells with mild to moderate nuclear atypia. Mitotic figures and necrosis were easily identified. Significant nuclear pleomorphism was not seen. Most tumors were rich in thick-walled small vessels. Prominent perivascular tumor cell whorling seen in conventional low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma was not seen. All tumors expressed CD10 with only focal or absent desmin, SMA and/or h-caldesmon staining. ER or PR expression was seen in 4 tumors and 1 tumor showed both marker expression. Diffuse cyclin D1 was present in 2 tumors. BCOR immunoreactivity was present with strong staining in 3 cases and moderate staining in 1 case respectively. Ki-67 index ranged from 10% to 30%. Fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed chromosomal aberration of BCOR gene in all tumors, that were previously diagnosed as myxoid leiomyosarcoma (2 cases), spindle cell uterine sarcoma (2 cases) and low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (1 case). Limited follow-up information revealed that 3/5 patients developed tumor recurrence, metastasis or death within one year. Conclusion: BCOR rearranged HGESS has distinct morphological features and aggressive clinical behavior. In the presence of significant overlapping morphologic features between BCOR rearranged HGESS and other myxoid uterine mesenchymal tumors, especially myxoid leiomyosarcoma, molecular analysis is essential for accurate diagnoses.

Azimuthal Anisotropy of Heavy-Flavor Decay Electrons in p-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 122:072301. Abstract
Angular correlations between heavy-flavor decay electrons and charged particles at midrapidity (|η|<0.8) are measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. The analysis is carried out for the 0%-20% (high) and 60%-100% (low) multiplicity ranges. The jet contribution in the correlation distribution from high-multiplicity events is removed by subtracting the distribution from low-multiplicity events. An azimuthal modulation remains after removing the jet contribution, similar to previous observations in two-particle angular correlation measurements for light-flavor hadrons. A Fourier decomposition of the modulation results in a positive second-order coefficient (v_{2}) for heavy-flavor decay electrons in the transverse momentum interval 1.5<p_{T}<4 GeV/c in high-multiplicity events, with a significance larger than 5σ. The results are compared with those of charged particles at midrapidity and those of inclusive muons at forward rapidity. The v_{2} measurement of open heavy-flavor particles at midrapidity in small collision systems could provide crucial information to help interpret the anisotropies observed in such systems.

Abstract
A nonlinear model is proposed to answer at which diving speeds and beak angles will cause injury to Gannet-inspired beam systems during plunge-diving. In doing so, the critical velocities at which buckling occurs with various types of boundary conditions are first obtained for vertical dives and the resulting forces at the point of impact are determined. The Gannet-inspired system is modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam to represent the neck and body of the Gannet, while the head of the Gannet is modeled as a cone with varying half-angles. The experimental investigations of Gannet-like diving systems are first introduced to present the varying parameters and assumptions of the simplified model. Next, the resulting forces during impact are investigated and a study is conducted to compare various approximations of the drag coefficient for the cone-shaped head. Considering the mid-plane stretching nonlinearity, the equations of motion for the structural system under various types of boundary conditions are derived using the Hamilton's principle. The characteristic equations, buckled configurations, and critical velocities are determined for each set of boundary conditions. The results show that the system with the smallest half-beak angle and thus the lowest drag force and beam length delays the critical velocity and is most representative of a Gannet during diving. The obtained results demonstrate great agreement with the conducted experiments. For clamped-clamped boundary conditions, the critical velocity is found to be the greatest because of the increased stability at both ends of the beam. It is also noted that a nonlinear approximation for the coefficient of drag offers the best fit with the provided experimental values when compared to a hyperbolic tangent approximation, which predicts the coefficient of drag to be less than that obtained in experiments, and thus predicts that the systems will buckle at higher velocities.

Associations between serum S100A8/S100A9 and knee symptoms, joint structures and cartilage enzymes in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis Cartilage 2019; 27:99-105. [PMID: 30240939 DOI: 10.1016/j.joca.2018.08.020] [Citation(s) in RCA: 13] [Impact Index Per Article: 2.6] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/04/2018] [Revised: 08/12/2018] [Accepted: 08/28/2018] [Indexed: 02/02/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Animal studies suggest that S100A8/S100A9 may be involved in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA); however, there has been no clinical study examining the associations between serum S100A8/S100A9 and knee symptoms, joint structures and cartilage degradation enzymes in knee OA patients so far. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the cross-sectional associations between serum levels of S100A8/S100A9 and the outcomes in patients with knee OA. DESIGN A total of 141 subjects with clinical knee OA were included. Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score was used to assess joint symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to measure knee structural abnormalities including cartilage defects. Knee radiography was used to assess joint space narrowing (JSN), osteophytes and the radiographic severity of OA. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the serum levels of S100A8/S100A9, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3, MMP10 and MMP13. RESULTS In multivariable analyses, serum S100A8/S100A9 were positively associated with total WOMAC score (β: 0.111 per 10 ng/ml, P = 0.021), WOMAC weight-bearing pain (β: 0.015 per 10 ng/ml, P = 0.043) and WOMAC physical dysfunction (β: 0.091 per 10 ng/ml, P = 0.010), and had positive associations with total cartilage defects and cartilage defects at lateral femoral, lateral tibial and medial femoral sites (ORs: 1.006-1.008 per 10 ng/ml, all P < 0.05) and serum levels of MMP3 (β: 0.002 per 10 ng/ml, P = 0.032) in patients with clinical knee OA. CONCLUSIONS Serum levels of S100A8/S100A9 were positively associated with increased knee symptoms, cartilage defects and serum cartilage degradation enzymes in patients with knee OA, suggesting that S100A8/S100A9 may have a role to play in knee OA. Future longitudinal studies are required to confirm these findings.

Observational study evaluating obstetric anesthesiologist residents' well-being, anxiety and stress in a North American academic program. Int J Obstet Anesth 2018; 38:75-82. [PMID: 30509676 DOI: 10.1016/j.ijoa.2018.10.011] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.2] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/04/2018] [Revised: 07/23/2018] [Accepted: 10/26/2018] [Indexed: 10/28/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND The obstetric work environment has a unique set of stressors that may be associated with burnout. We investigated how well-being during the obstetric anesthesia (ObA) rotation compared to other rotations; which workplace environment characteristics precipitated the greatest stress; and whether anxiety and stress levels changed in trainees before and after an ObA rotation. METHODS Using a survey, anesthesia residents (n=36) ranked their well-being on each anesthesia rotation and answered questions about their work environment. A separate survey measured anxiety and stress before and after an ObA rotation. Friedman's test was used to compare ranking data and Likert responses. T-tests were used to compare stress and anxiety scores. RESULTS Residents' ranking of well-being on ObA was higher than that on another high demand rotation (cardiothoracic anesthesia, P=0.007). Work environment stress scores were significantly higher among community and fairness domains than for workload (P=0.002 and P=0.0001, respectively). While stress and anxiety scores did not significantly differ before and after the ObA rotation, they were higher than the reference population scores. CONCLUSIONS We provide the first example of tools for assessing work environment stressors in ObA. Our study illustrates that beyond excessive workload, lack of fairness and community values are areas that impact physician well-being. Use of these tools can guide initiatives to address work environment concerns, and presents a need for a validated well-being instrument to gauge physician well-being, in order to create a cultural shift from burnout to one of well-being.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate cross-sectional associations between serum level of Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)13 and knee structural measures and circulating inflammatory factors in patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA). DESIGN A total of 149 subjects with symptomatic knee OA were included. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to measure infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) volume, IPFP signal intensity alternation, cartilage volume and cartilage defects. Knee radiography was used to assess radiographic OA using the Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grading system. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the serum levels of inflammatory factors and MMP13. RESULTS In multivariable analyses, serum MMP13 was negatively associated with cartilage volume at patellar site (β: -32.94 mm3 per 10 ng/ml, P < 0.05), and positively associated with cartilage defect at medial femoral site (OR: 1.13 per 10 ng/ml, P < 0.05). Also, MMP13 was positively associated with K-L grading and IPFP signal intensity alteration (OR: 1.14 and 1.15 per 10 ng/ml, respectively, both P < 0.05), and negatively associated with IPFP volume (β: -0.34 cm3 per 10 ng/ml, P < 0.05). Furthermore, serum level of adiponectin was negatively associated serum MMP13 quartiles (OR: 0.66 per 10 μg/ml, P < 0.05), and serum levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-8 and IL-18 were positively associated with serum MMP13 quartiles (ORs: 1.01-1.18 per 10 pg/ml, all P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Serum level of MMP13 was associated with knee structural abnormalities as well as serum inflammatory factors. These suggest that systemic MMP13 may play a role in knee OA, and could be regulated by inflammatory factors.
