Abstract
The effect of moxibustion combined with acu-area skin allograft therapy for the aging was evaluated using a mice model. This study provides experimental basis and a new research clue for the clinical application of "combination" therapy with the use of optic and electron microscope. We observed that moxibustion, skin allograft, and a combination of the two had the effect of retarding the aging of the thymus gland and pituitary gland. Among them, the moxibustion combined with skin allograft was more effective compared with other single therapies. This study suggests that the combined therapy could raise the therapeutic effect.

Abstract
D-Aminoacylase isolated from Alcaligenes faecalis DA1 has a great potential for future application in D-amino acids production. This paper reports for the first time that D-aminoacylase can reverse the catalysis direction on D-Met and deacylate N-Ac-D-Met-OMe and N-Ac-D-Met-Gly. The results provide important insights regarding the binding and affinity of substrates to the active site of this enzyme. Based on a systematic study of kinetic properties and relative reactivities for a broad range of substrates, a model to elucidate the reaction mechanism is proposed.

Abstract
This study consists of 71 consecutive surgically resected specimens of lung cancer which were submitted for both light and electron microscopic studies. Eleven of the 71 cancers found in the resected specimens and originally diagnosed by light microscopy had to be reclassified when studied by electron microscopy. All of the reclassified cancers were either poorly differentiated or undifferentiated tumors. This finding enables one to better select and suspect those cancers which are more likely to be in need of electron microscopic study.

Abstract
Analysis and comparisons were made between the clinical and pathological data obtained from 42 cases of type I and 17 cases of type III membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN). It was shown that type I MPGN differed from type III remarkably in following respects: (1) Nephrosis was a salient feature of type III while hypertension, impairment of renal function and hematuria were more common in type I. (2) Pathological glomerular sclerosis, tubular interstitial changes and crescents formation occurred frequently in type I but not in type III. (3) Long term prognosis for type III was much better than type I. It is concluded the type III MPGN is a distinct clinical entity which differs from the classical type I MPGN in many aspects.

Abstract
Primary lymphoma of the spleen is a relatively rare clinical entity. The majority of patients reported with this entity not only have splenic involvement but also have had lymph node and/or liver involvement. The patient reported presented with splenomegaly and was otherwise asymptomatic. Only splenic involvement was noted at operation and no other manifestation of the disease has become apparent, some 24 months post-splenectomy.

Abstract
To investigate the immune regulating effect of moxibustion on the patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, 35 patients were treated by moxibustion and the changes of antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) activity in the peripheral blood of the patients and their relationship with thyroid microsomal antibody (MCA) before and after treatment were observed. It was found that the activity of ADCC and the combining rate of MCA were higher than normal and they were closely related to each other. After treatment, both of them declined remarkably and the relationship between them remained the same. The result indicated that the treatment of Hashimoto's thyroiditis by moxibustion might well be related to its effect of decreasing the activity of ADCC and the titer of anti-thyroid antibodies.

Abstract
The morphologic classification and clinical spectrum of 1,001 cases of primary glomerulonephritis (GN) in Jinling Hospital during 1980-1988 were analysed. It was found that the incidence of mesangial type lesion including mesangial proliferative GN, IgA nephropathy and IgM nephropathy ranks first (21.5%, 32.1% and 10.1% respectively), which is not only the commonest cause of patients clinically manifesting nephrotic syndrome and gross hematuria but also the predominant type of nephritis causing uremia and hypertension.

Abstract
A review of goblet cell carcinoid of the appendix was undertaken. This interesting tumor appears to lie somewhere between an ordinary carcinoid and a well differentiated adenocarcinoma of the appendix in regard to its biologic behavior. The histologic features of the goblet cell carcinoid of the appendix are distinctive enough to facilitate a diagnosis, although the histogenesis remains controversial and unsettled. The prognosis is generally good in a patient treated by simple appendectomy, the treatment of choice in the majority of patients.

Abstract
The natural histories of stercoraceous and spontaneous perforations of the colon have many similarities which justify their being considered in the same treatise. Both entities are infrequently diagnosed preoperatively, and both entities are associated with a high mortality. Although the incidence of stercoraceous and spontaneous perforations of the colon is difficult to determine, their occurrence demands a high index of suspicion for early diagnosis and treatment. A critical review of available cases emphasizes the importance of a better understanding of the natural history of both entities, for it is only in this way that the high mortality associated with both can be improved upon. At least stercoraceous perforations of the colon appear to be preventable, and consideration is given to this aspect.

Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma of the colon and rectum is a relatively rare entity. Although much of this disease entity remains enigmatic, treatment tenets are the same as those accepted for adenocarcinoma of the colon and rectum. Although prognosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the colon and rectum appears to be worse than that of adenocarcinoma, an aggressive approach to this neoplasm is indicated in order to improve survival rates.

Abstract
A case of a myxomatous variant of an inflammatory pseudotumor of the lung is reported with clinicopathologic findings including its ultrastructure. The pathologic features of inflammatory pseudotumor of the lung are compared with similar tumors arising elsewhere and bear a close resemblance to granulation tissue, which suggests that inflammatory pseudotumors represent a reparative process rather than a neoplastic process. Recognition of this entity is imperative for a correct diagnosis and in order to differentiate it from malignant neoplasm, since only conservative management is necessary for its treatment.

Abstract
A patient with carcinoma of the colon had an IgG-kappa monoclonal peak. Within two years after surgical removal of the carcinoma, the monoclonal protein completely disappeared. Monoclonal gammopathy has been described in association with malignant diseases. The disappearance of the monoclonal protein is a response of the immune system to the underlying neoplasm.
