Abstract
Background Seizures are a common presenting sign in dogs with brain tumors. Hypothesis/Objectives To investigate the effect of radiotherapy on freedom from brain tumor‐associated seizures and survival time in dogs. Animals Thirty‐two client‐owned dogs with brain tumor‐associated seizures; 18 received medical treatment and radiotherapy, 14 received medical treatment alone. Methods Multicenter retrospective study. Baseline characteristics (seizure semiology, magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] characteristics, and treatment) and duration of seizure freedom were recorded for the 2 treatment groups. Duration of seizure freedom between groups was compared (log‐rank test) using Cox's proportional hazard analysis, with baseline characteristics entered as covariates. Results The duration of seizure freedom and survival time were significantly longer in the radiotherapy group (P < .001), with a mean of 24 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 14.3‐33.8) versus 1.7 months in the control group (95% CI, 0.5‐2.9) and a mean of 34.6 months (95% CI: 25.2‐44.1) versus 6.2 months in the control group (95% CI, 2.6‐9.7) respectively. Baseline characteristics were not associated with duration of seizure freedom after the start of treatment. In the radiotherapy group, 5 dogs were euthanized during the study period because of causes other than seizures. In the control group, recurrence of seizures was observed before death in all dogs. Conclusions and Clinical Importance A longer period of seizure freedom and longer survival time was observed in dogs with brain tumors after radiotherapy compared to medical treatment only. The pathophysiological mechanisms of epileptogenesis and the effect of radiation therapy on seizure control are unclear to date. Further prospective studies are needed.

Abstract
Abstract
Trace minerals are known to play important roles in early embryo development. The study objective was to determine effects of trace mineral source on heifer reproductive performance. Over two years, beef heifers (n = 130) were randomly assigned to two pens and two treatments, within each pen, based on breed, age, and BW. From weaning through the breeding season, all heifers were individually fed a basal diet of grass hay, corn silage, and a supplement pellet (soybean hulls, dried distiller’s grains plus solubles, minerals, vitamins and monensin). Cobalt, Cu, Mn, and Zn were supplemented with either complexed sources (Availa-4) or inorganic sources (Cu, Mn, and Zn hydroxychlorides; Intellibond C, M, and Z) and Co as CoSO4. Blood samples were collected bi-weekly, and a reproductive tract score (RTS) was collected 30 d prior to breeding to determine pubertal status. All animals were synchronized and artificially inseminated (AI). Pregnancy status was determined by lymphocyte gene expression on d 17, 19, and 21; by circulating concentrations of pregnancy associated glycoproteins (PAGs) on d 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28; and by transrectal ultrasonography on d 30 and 60 after AI. Embryonic loss was defined as when a previously pregnant animal was subsequently diagnosed not pregnant. Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure in SAS. Puberty (P = 0.44), pelvic area (P = 0.74), RTS (P = 0.49), and estrus expression (P = 0.82) were not influenced by treatment. There was no effect of treatment (P = 0.37) or treatment by time (P = 0.19) on pregnancy, but there was a weak tendency (P = 0.13) for decreased embryonic loss among heifers supplemented with complexed trace minerals (27±6%) compared to inorganic minerals (38±6%). In summary, source of trace mineral did not affect puberty, RTS, pelvic area, or overall pregnancy success, but feeding complexed trace minerals tended to increase embryo survival from d 17 to 60.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to reveal something about a turn that occurred in Canadian management from the 1960s to 1980s through an empirical analysis of three different archival research sources. It considers three sub-themes that collectively help to reveal empirically major changes in management identity that happened in Canada from the late 1960s to the early 1980s.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper is divided into several sub-sections and uses social history methodology, although it is principally intended to be an empirical analysis. The rationale for selecting three specific sources and how they relate to each other is discussed. The sources are different in terms of form and periodization, yet they collectively provide coherent insights into the management experience in Canada from the 1960s to 1980s.
Findings
As a methodology paper, this analysis reveals the unique nature of archival sources that are not often found in management history and also shows how they relate to each other.
Research limitations/implications
This paper may seem specific to Canadian management history, but it is intended to present sources and methodology that are applicable regardless of locale.
Originality/value
This paper seeks to present the value of using new methodologies in the study of management history and, while building on existing literature, it helps to reveal the complexity of the management experience in important decades in post-Second World War Canada.

Abstract
The ProtoDUNE-SP is a single-phase liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) prototype for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). Signals from 15,360 electronic channels are received by 60 Reconfigurable Cluster Elements (RCEs), which are processing elements designed at SLAC for a wide range of applications and are based upon the “system-onchip” Xilinx Zynq family of FPGAs. The RCEs are housed in industry-standard ATCA shelves on a custom blade, called the Cluster on Board (COB). The RCE platform and its processing functions for the ProtoDUNE-SP will be presented.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The first tracheostomy tube change is typically performed on days 5-7 post-operatively, however recent international consensus guidelines suggested that, with maturation sutures, days 3-5 is appropriate. We evaluate whether a first tube change on day 2 post-operatively is safe and effective. METHODS We carried out a retrospective review of all patients undergoing tracheostomy between 2009 and 2018. Exclusion criteria were patients on whom the senior authors did not operate, operations done elsewhere, cases where maturation sutures were not used or a patient died prior to first tube change. We noted patient details, indication for tracheostomy, the need for long-term ventilation, timing of the first tube change, decannulation and need for surgical closure of persistent tracheocutaneous fistula. RESULTS 93 patients were identified, of which 83 were included. The age range was 0-16 years, with the youngest day one of life and an overall mean age of 1.91 years. 59% of patients required long-term ventilation due to various co-morbidities. 26 patients (31%) underwent a first tube change on day 2 post-operatively. All these were uneventful and were irrespective of the patient's need for ventilation. Of the 42 patients who have subsequently been decannulated, 33 (79%) were noted to have a persistent tracheocutaneous fistula requiring surgical closure, four of whom needed revision closure. CONCLUSIONS This study shows that a first tube change on day 2 post-operatively is safe, facilitating earlier discharge from intensive care, allowing shorter length of sedation, earlier start to parent/carer training and wound assessment.

Abstract
ObjectivesTo describe our technique of using reverse frontal bone graft for FOAR for patients with metopic or coronal synostosis.DesignRetrospective analysis of digital records for operation notes and radiological images.SubjectsSince April 2014, 16 patients underwent FOAR without using orbital bar.MethodsWe plan a frontal bone graft using Marchac template and increase the angles on side by 1 cm. This graft is then reversed and supra orbital margins are drilled out. The orbital bar is then removed and drilled down to make bone dust which is then used to fill gaps on exposed dura. The reversed frontal graft is then placed in front and secured via absorbable sutures, plate and screws.ResultsAll 16 patients who underwent this technique have shown excellent cosmetic results with no complications or non healing. Removing orbital bar does not cause any cosmetic defect since orbital rims are drilled out in reverse frontal bone graft. The removed orbital bar provides an excellent source of bone dust to cover gaps on exposed dura.ConclusionsWe present our technique of FOAR without using orbital bar, which is drilled down to bone dust to fill gaps. This has shown excellent cosmetic results so far with no complications. This addresses the issue of temporal thinning.

Abstract
Here, we review the case of a 26 1/7 weeks' gestation premature female infant born to a mother who intentionally ingested a large quantity of Tylenol, aspirin, quetiapine, and prenatal vitamins. The neonate subsequently had markedly elevated levels of both Tylenol and aspirin when checked on the first day of life. While overall clinically stable, the neonate did demonstrate coagulopathy as evidenced by abnormal coagulation studies. Both poison control and a pediatric gastroenterologist/hepatologist were consulted. She successfully tolerated a course of N-acetylcysteine; her subsequent Tylenol level was markedly decreased and the neonate exhibited no further effects of toxicity. The salicylate level decreased on its own accord. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a neonate at 26 weeks' gestation that has been successfully managed for supratherapeutic concentrations of acetaminophen and acetylsalicylic acid secondary to maternal ingestion. While rare, this case may serve as a reference for the effectiveness of N-acetylcysteine in premature infants in such instances.

Abstract
Zinc is an essential cofactor for many proteins. A key mechanism of zinc homeostasis during deficiency is "zinc sparing" in which specific zinc-binding proteins are repressed to reduce the cellular requirement. In this report, we evaluated zinc sparing across the zinc proteome of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The yeast zinc proteome of 582 known or potential zinc-binding proteins was identified using a bioinformatics analysis that combined global domain searches with local motif searches. Protein abundance was determined by mass spectrometry. In zinc-replete cells, we detected over 2500 proteins among which 229 were zinc proteins. Based on copy number estimates and binding stoichiometries, a replete cell contains ∼9 million zinc-binding sites on proteins. During zinc deficiency, many zinc proteins decreased in abundance and the zinc-binding requirement decreased to ∼5 million zinc atoms per cell. Many of these effects were due at least in part to changes in mRNA levels rather than simply protein degradation. Measurements of cellular zinc content showed that the level of zinc atoms per cell dropped from over 20 million in replete cells to only 1.7 million in deficient cells. These results confirmed the ability of replete cells to store excess zinc and suggested that the majority of zinc-binding sites on proteins in deficient cells are either unmetalated or mismetalated. Our analysis of two abundant zinc proteins, Fba1 aldolase and Met6 methionine synthetase, supported that hypothesis. Thus, we have discovered widespread zinc sparing mechanisms and obtained evidence of a high accumulation of zinc proteins that lack their cofactor during deficiency.

Abstract
Temporary and permanent tracheostomies are required in children to manage actual or anticipated long-term ventilatory support, to aid secretion management or to manage fixed upper airway obstruction. Tracheostomies may be required from the first few moments of life, with the majority performed in children < 4 years of age. Although similarities with adult tracheostomies are apparent, there are key differences when managing the routine and emergency care of children with tracheostomies. The National Tracheostomy Safety Project identified the need for structured guidelines to aid multidisciplinary clinical decision making during paediatric tracheostomy emergencies. These guidelines describe the development of a bespoke emergency management algorithm and supporting resources. Our aim is to reduce the frequency, nature and severity of paediatric tracheostomy emergencies through preparation and education of staff, parents, carers and patients.

Abstract
Zinc homeostasis is essential for all organisms. The Zap1 transcriptional activator regulates these processes in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. During zinc deficiency, Zap1 increases expression of zinc transporters and proteins involved in adapting to the stress of zinc deficiency. Transcriptional activation by Zap1 can also repress expression of some genes, e.g., RTC4. In zinc-replete cells, RTC4 mRNA is produced with a short transcript leader that is efficiently translated. During deficiency, Zap1-dependent expression of an RNA with a longer transcript leader represses the RTC4 promoter. This long leader transcript (LLT) is not translated due to the presence of small open reading frames upstream of the RTC4 coding region. In this study, we show that the RTC4 LLT RNA also plays a second function, i.e., repression of the adjacent GIS2 gene. In generating the LLT transcript, RNA polymerase II transcribes RTC4 through the GIS2 promoter. Production of the LLT RNA correlates with the decreased expression of GIS2 mRNA and mutations that prevent synthesis of the LLT RNA or terminate it before the GIS2 promoter renders GIS2 mRNA expression and Gis2 protein accumulation constitutive. Thus, we have discovered an unusual regulatory mechanism that uses a bicistronic RNA to control two genes simultaneously.

Abstract
Background Relapsed/metastatic salivary gland carcinomas (SGCs) have a wide diversity of histologic subtypes associated with variable clinical aggressiveness and response to local and systemic therapies. We queried whether comprehensive genomic profiling could define the tumor subtypes and uncover clinically relevant genomic alterations, revealing new routes to targeted therapies for patients with relapsed and metastatic disease. Patients and methods From a series of 85 686 clinical cases, DNA was extracted from 40 µm of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) sections for 623 consecutive SGC. CGP was carried out on hybridization-captured, adaptor ligation-based libraries (mean coverage depth, >500×) for up to 315 cancer-related genes. Tumor mutational burden was determined on 1.1 Mb of sequenced DNA. All classes of alterations, base substitutions, short insertions/deletions, copy number changes, and rearrangements/fusions were determined simultaneously. Results The clinically more indolent SGC including adenoid cystic carcinoma, acinic cell carcinoma, polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma, mammary analog secretory carcinoma, and epithelial-myoepithelial carcinomas have significantly fewer genomic alterations, TP53 mutations, and lower tumor mutational burden than the typically more aggressive SGCs including mucoepidermoid carcinoma, salivary duct carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, not otherwise specified, carcinoma NOS, and carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma. The more aggressive SGCs are commonly driven by ERBB2 PI3K pathway genomic alterations. Additional targetable GAs are frequently seen. Conclusions Genomic profiling of SGCs demonstrates important differences between traditionally indolent and aggressive cancers. These differences may provide therapeutic options in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the proportion of blood samples diagnosed with reticulocytosis without anaemia in cats and dogs and report the aetiology and mortality rate of affected animals. MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective multicentre study including haematological examination of 3956 cats and 11,087 dogs admitted to seven German veterinary clinics (2012 to 2014). The proportion of blood samples with reticulocytosis without anaemia was calculated, and after exclusion of multiple measurements of the same animal, clinical data were evaluated. Animals with reticulocytosis without anaemia were classified as healthy or diseased, and diseased patients were assigned to 12 disease groups. Pretreatment (i.e. non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids, dipyrone) was recorded. RESULTS The proportion of blood samples with reticulocytosis without anaemia was 3·1% (124/3956) in cats and 4·4% (492/11,087) in dogs. Overall, 1·8% (2/111) of cats and 1·5% (7/458) of dogs with reticulocytosis without anaemia were healthy. Blood loss/anaemia, cardiac/respiratory disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and inflammatory disorders as well as cancer were the most frequent underlying diseases. Pretreatment was noted in 39·5% (43/111) of cats and 42·4% (194/458) of dogs. The mortality rate was 37·8% (42/111) in cats and 29·7% (136/458) in dogs with reticulocytosis without anaemia; the median survival time in non-survivors was 1 day (range: 0 to 376 days in cats, 0 to 444 days in dogs). CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE In both species, reticulocytosis without anaemia was observed in a low proportion of blood samples (dogs>cat). Though a bias towards sick animals is possible in our sample, reticulocytosis without anaemia was mainly seen in diseased animals and associated with a mortality rate of approximately one-third of patients.

Abstract
Discoveries on the genetics of resource acquisition efficiency are limited by the ability to measure plant roots in sufficient number and with adequate genotypic variability. This paper presents a root phenotyping study that explores ways to combine live imaging and computer algorithms for model-based extraction of root growth parameters. The study is based on a subset of barley Recombinant Chromosome Substitution Lines (RCSLs) and a combinatorial approach was designed for fast identification of the regions of the genome that contribute the most to variations in root system architecture (RSA). Results showed there was a strong genotypic variation in root growth parameters within the set of genotypes studied. The chromosomal regions associated with primary root growth differed from the regions of the genome associated with changes in lateral root growth. The concepts presented here are discussed in the context of identifying root QTL and its potential to assist breeding for novel crops with improved root systems.

Abstract
The Zap1 transcription factor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a key regulator in the genomic responses to zinc deficiency. Among the genes regulated by Zap1 during zinc deficiency is the autophagy-related gene ATG41 Here, we report that Atg41 is required for growth in zinc-deficient conditions, but not when zinc is abundant or when other metals are limiting. Consistent with a role for Atg41 in macroautophagy, we show that nutritional zinc deficiency induces autophagy and that mutation of ATG41 diminishes that response. Several experiments indicated that the importance of ATG41 function to growth during zinc deficiency is not because of its role in macroautophagy, but rather is due to one or more autophagy-independent functions. For example, rapamycin treatment fully induced autophagy in zinc-deficient atg41Δ mutants but failed to improve growth. In addition, atg41Δ mutants showed a far more severe growth defect than any of several other autophagy mutants tested, and atg41Δ mutants showed increased Heat Shock Factor 1 activity, an indicator of protein homeostasis stress, while other autophagy mutants did not. An autophagy-independent function for ATG41 in sulfur metabolism during zinc deficiency was suggested by analyzing the transcriptome of atg41Δ mutants during the transition from zinc-replete to -deficient conditions. Analysis of sulfur metabolites confirmed that Atg41 is needed for the normal accumulation of methionine, homocysteine, and cysteine in zinc-deficient cells. Therefore, we conclude that Atg41 plays roles in both macroautophagy and sulfur metabolism during zinc deficiency.

Abstract
African American men (AA) carry unequal burdens of several conditions including cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and HIV. Engagement of diverse populations including AA men in research and health promotion practice is vital to examining the health disparities that continue to plague many racially and ethnically diverse communities. To date, there is little research on best practices that indicate locations, community areas and settings to engage AA men in research and health promotion. Traditionally, the AA church has been a key area to engage AA men and women. However, changing tides in attendance of AA parishioners require additional information to identify areas where AAs, particularly, AA men congregate. The AA barbershop has been identified as a place of social cohesion, cultural immersion and solidarity for AA men but specific sub-populations of AA men may be underrepresented. To further investigate additional locales where AA men congregate, this study engaged AA barbers and clients in several urban community barbershops in Chicago, Illinois. 127 AA men over age 18y/o receiving grooming services in 25 Chicago area barbershops across 14 predominantly AA communities were consented and recruited for a quantitative survey study. The self-administered surveys were completed in ~15 min and $10 compensation was provided to men. Descriptive statistics were reported for demographic variables and for frequency of responses for locations to find AA men of specific age ranges for health promotion and screening activities. Outside of the traditionally used churches or barbershops, the top recommended recruitment sites by age were: 18-29y/o- city park or a recreational center; 30-39y/o- gym, bars or the street; 40-49y/o- various stores, especially home improvement stores, and the mall; and 50y/o+- fast food restaurants in the mornings, such as McDonalds, and individual's homes. The study participants also reported that locations where AA men congregate vary by age. Findings from this study illustrate that AA barbers and barbershops remain a key stakeholder in health promotion among AA men. The findings also demonstrate the need for additional research to examine best practices for identifying locations where diverse groups of AA men that vary by age and sexual orientation may congregate in order to support increased health promotion among AA men.
