Abstract
Objective: To investigate androgen receptor(AR)expression in invasive breast carcinoma and the correlation with surrogate molecular breast carcinoma subtypes. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining of AR and other biomarkers was performed in a cohort of 870 cases of primary invasive breast carcinomas collected from August to December, 2016. The association of AR expression with different histological and surrogate molecular subtypes was analyzed. Results: The positive expression rate of AR in the immunohistochemistry-based surrogate subtypes was 96.3%(207/215) for Luminal A, 89.8%(378/421) for Luminal B, 82.4%(75/91) for HER2 overexpression and 37.1%(53/143) for triple negative breast carcinoma, with significant differences among the four groups (P<0.01). AR correlated positively with the expression of ER(P<0.01), PR(P<0.01), HER2(P=0.007), GATA3(P<0.01), GCDFP15(P<0.01)and mammaglobin(P<0.01), while negatively with the expression of Ki-67(P<0.01), CK5/6(P<0.01)and CK14(P<0.01). Conclusions: AR exhibits a high expression in invasive breast carcinoma, which is mainly correlated with ER-positive breast carcinoma. Regardless of the relatively low expression rate, AR is a potential therapeutic target in triple negative breast carcinoma.

Abstract
Serum phospholipase A2 receptor antibodies (SAbs) and glomerular phospholipase A2 receptor antigen (GAg) deposits have been observed in idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). However, the clinical application of these two biomarkers, particularly GAg deposition, needs to be further evaluated. We measured SAb concentration by ELISA and GAg deposition by immunofluorescence in 572 patients with biopsy-proven IMN. Overall, 68.5% of patients (392 of 572) had detectable SAb (SAb+), and 98.7% of patients who were SAb+ (387 of 392) and 70.6% of patients who were SAb- (127 of 180) had GAg deposition (GAg+). Compared with patients who were SAb-/GAg+, patients who were SAb+/GAg+ exhibited higher levels of proteinuria (P<0.001) and a lower chance of proteinuria remission (P<0.001). In 52 patients who underwent repeat biopsies, patients who did not achieve remission had a higher SAb+ rate on the first biopsy than patients who went into remission (P=0.001). Furthermore, SAb+ levels persisted in patients who did not achieve remission but significantly decreased in patients who achieved remission by the second biopsy. Patients who did not achieve remission also had a higher GAg+ rate on the first biopsy than patients who achieved remission (P<0.01). Sustained GAg+ deposits correlated with disease relapse. In conclusion, combining the measurements of SAb levels and detection of GAg deposition may provide additional information regarding diagnoses, treatment response, and disease relapse in patients with IMN.

Abstract
This paper aims at estimating causal relationships between signals to detect flow propagation in autoregressive and physiological models. The main challenge of the ongoing work is to discover whether neural activity in a given structure of the brain influences activity in another area during epileptic seizures. This question refers to the concept of effective connectivity in neuroscience, i.e. to the identification of information flows and oriented propagation graphs. Past efforts to determine effective connectivity rooted to Wiener causality definition adapted in a practical form by Granger with autoregressive models. A number of studies argue against such a linear approach when nonlinear dynamics are suspected in the relationship between signals. Consequently, nonlinear nonparametric approaches, such as transfer entropy (TE), have been introduced to overcome linear methods limitations and promoted in many studies dealing with electrophysiological signals. Until now, even though many TE estimators have been developed, further improvement can be expected. In this paper, we investigate a new strategy by introducing an adaptive kernel density estimator to improve TE estimation.

Abstract
We use electric dipole spin resonance to measure dynamic nuclear polarization in InAs nanowire quantum dots. The resonance shifts in frequency when the system transitions between metastable high and low current states, indicating the presence of nuclear polarization. We propose that the low and the high current states correspond to different total Zeeman energy gradients between the two quantum dots. In the low current state, dynamic nuclear polarization efficiently compensates the Zeeman gradient due to the g-factor mismatch, resulting in a suppressed total Zeeman gradient. We present a theoretical model of electron-nuclear feedback that demonstrates a fixed point in nuclear polarization for nearly equal Zeeman splittings in the two dots and predicts a narrowed hyperfine gradient distribution.

Abstract
A double quantum dot in the few-electron regime is achieved using local gating in an InSb nanowire. The spectrum of two-electron eigenstates is investigated using electric dipole spin resonance. Singlet-triplet level repulsion caused by spin-orbit interaction is observed. The size and the anisotropy of singlet-triplet repulsion are used to determine the magnitude and the orientation of the spin-orbit effective field in an InSb nanowire double dot. The obtained results are confirmed using spin blockade leakage current anisotropy and transport spectroscopy of individual quantum dots.

Abstract
Majorana fermions are particles identical to their own antiparticles. They have been theoretically predicted to exist in topological superconductors. Here, we report electrical measurements on indium antimonide nanowires contacted with one normal (gold) and one superconducting (niobium titanium nitride) electrode. Gate voltages vary electron density and define a tunnel barrier between normal and superconducting contacts. In the presence of magnetic fields on the order of 100 millitesla, we observe bound, midgap states at zero bias voltage. These bound states remain fixed to zero bias, even when magnetic fields and gate voltages are changed over considerable ranges. Our observations support the hypothesis of Majorana fermions in nanowires coupled to superconductors.

Abstract
The M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) is a target autoantigen in adult idiopathic membranous nephropathy (MN), but the prevalence of autoantibodies against PLA2R is unknown among Chinese patients with MN. Here, we measured anti-PLA2R antibody in the serum of 60 patients with idiopathic MN, 20 with lupus-associated MN, 16 with hepatitis B (HBV)-associated MN, and 10 with tumor-associated MN. Among patients with idiopathic MN, 49 (82%) had detectable anti-PLA2R autoantibodies using a Western blot assay; an assay with greater sensitivity detected very low titers of anti-PLA2R in 10 of the remaining 11 patients. Using the standard assay, we detected anti-PLA2R antibody in only 1 patient with lupus, 1 with HBV, and 3 with cancer, producing an overall specificity of 89% in this cohort limited to patients with secondary MN. The enhanced assay detected low titers of anti-PLA2R in only 2 additional samples of HBV-associated MN. In summary, these results suggest that PLA2R is a major target antigen in Chinese idiopathic MN and that detection of anti-PLA2R is a sensitive test for idiopathic MN.

Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between peripheral blood B lymphocytes, regulatory T-cells and T lymphocyte subsets, the distribution of B lymphocytes in the kidney, and the pathogenesis of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). Lymphocyte subsets were measured using flow cytometry in 66 patients with clinically-confirmed IMN and in 40 healthy control subjects. Compared with healthy subjects, the number of peripheral blood B lymphocytes was significantly increased in IMN patients and that of regulatory T-cells was significantly decreased, accompanied by an increased CD4+/CD8+ T-cell ratio. There was no relationship between the number of peripheral blood B lymphocytes and markers of kidney function. Although the number of infiltrating B lymphocytes in the kidney of IMN patients was higher, there was no relationship with the number of peripheral blood B lymphocytes. In conclusion, there was no relationship between peripheral blood B lymphocytes and disease activity, suggesting that peripheral blood B lymphocytes are not a biomarker of disease activity and therapeutic efficacy in IMN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nasal polyposis has different etiologies in Western and Eastern countries. Furthermore, its pathogenesis is still poorly understood. OBJECTIVE To determine the T-cell phenotypes involved in nasal polyposis in Chinese patients. METHODS Twenty-four Chinese patients with nasal polyps were studied. CD4, CD8, Foxp3, and interleukin (IL) 17 were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining. Expression of T-bet, GATA-3, Foxp3, and RORgammat mRNA was detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The levels of T-cell cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, interferon [IFN] gamma, IL-10, IL-17, and transforming growth factor [TGF] beta) were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and serum immunoglobulin (Ig) E levels were measured using the UNICAP system. RESULTS Increased expression of CD4+ and CD8+ and decreased expression of Foxp3 and IL-17 were detected in nasal polyps compared with control tissue. Furthermore, expression of T-bet and GATA-3 mRNA was upregulated, whereas Foxp3 mRNA expression was markedly downregulated. Furthermore, increased levels of IFN-gamma, IL-4 and IL-5 and decreased levels of IL-10 and TGF-beta were found in nasal polyps. There was no association between Staphylococcus aureus exotoxin (SAE)-specific IgE and T regulatory cell (Treg) insufficiency in nasal polyps. CONCLUSIONS Our findings demonstrate that excessive infiltration of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in nasal polyps may be associated with expression of Foxp3+ by Tregs but not with SAEs in Chinese patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of norepinephrine in the down-regulated visceral sensitivity of rats deprived of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. METHODS Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: cage-yoked rats as control (YC), rats with REM sleep deprivation (SD) and rats with yohimbine administered intraperitoneally after REM sleep deprivation (YSD). Flower pot technique was employed to make sleep deprivation model. YSD group was given yohimbine intraperitoneally at the 48th hour after REM sleep deprivation. After both SD and YSD groups had completed these processes, rats of all the three groups were given colorectal distension (CRD) and electromyogram (EMG) was recorded at the same time. The number of discharges of EMG and the threshold of pain perception of the rats were observed to evaluate the visceral sensitivity. The thalamus, rectum and distal colon were taken after CRD; MAO-mRNA and TH-mRNA in three tissues were detected with RT-PCR. RESULTS On 48th hour, the number of discharges of EMG in 10 seconds responding to CRD in group SD was significantly less than that in group YC and the threshold of pain perception in group SD was higher than that in group YC (P < 0.05). The number of discharge of EMG in group YSD was significantly more than that in group SD (P < 0.05). The expression of MAO-mRNA in group SD was lower than that in group YC (P < 0.05) and the expression of TH-mRNA in group SD was higher than that in group YC (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The visceral sensitivity in rats is down-regulated by REM sleep deprivation, which can increase synthesis of norepinephrine. Norepinephrine can modulate visceral sensitivity.

Abstract
Cotton wilt defense reaction is a complicated continuous process and involves a battery of genes. In this study, we adopted suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) technique to isolate differentially expressed ESTs from Gossypium barbadense variety 7124 during Verticillium wilt defense process. An array of 1165 clones from the subtractive library has been screened with reverse northern blotting, of which 131 ESTs were considered as over-expressed and 16 ESTs were down-regulated. Sequence analysis and blast search showed that 83 ESTs were homologous to 45 unique sequences in the databases. Among all these differentially expressed ESTs, at least three kinds of genes were characterized. The majority of ESTs with deduced identity to aerobic metabolism enzymes strongly expressed in the infection process. Likewise, ESTs similar to those reported for pathogen-related protein genes were also picked out in this study. These ESTs in combination with other kinase-like genes and a defensin-like EST constituted an assembly of genes responded during pathogens' infection. These results imply that sea-island cotton undergoes strong oxidative stress and results in a series of defense responses when attacked by V. dahliae. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the isolation of global ESTs during sea-island cotton defense reaction.
