Abstract
Putrescine and cadaverine are toxic biogenic amines in spoiled food, which poses a serious threat to food security. In this work, we reported a highly sensitive three-dimensional (3D)-rosettelike surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate functionalized with a p-mercaptobenzoic acid (p-MBA) monolayer to detect liquid and gaseous putrescine and cadaverine in pork samples. The SERS substrate was made by a combination of the merit of the 3D morphology of ZnO nanorod arrays on a flexible porous poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membrane and the in situ chemical growth of Au nanoparticle seeds on Au film-coated ZnO nanorods, which produced a 3D-rosettelike BigAuNP/Au/ZnO/P heterostructure with abundant SERS-active hot spots that significantly enhanced the localized surface plasmonic resonance (LSPR) effect and charge-transfer (CT) effect of Raman enhancement. This SERS substrate showed high sensitivity, reproducibility, stability, and uniformity. With the p-MBA molecular monolayer as the sensing interface, our SERS substrate realized the highly sensitive and quantitative detection of liquid putrescine and cadaverine within 10 min, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.2 × 10-16 and 1.6 × 10-13 M, respectively. Additionally, the sensor showed efficient SERS responses to gaseous amine molecules at low concentrations (putrescine: 1.26 × 10-9 M, cadaverine: 2.5 × 10-9 M). Further, the sensor was successfully applied to determine the total content of putrescine and cadaverine. Moreover, the practicability of this SERS sensor was verified by the measurement of liquid and gaseous amines in pork samples, and it showed great potential applications for sensitive detection of food spoilage.

Abstract
The chiral magnetic effect (CME) refers to charge separation along a strong magnetic field due to imbalanced chirality of quarks in local parity and charge-parity violating domains in quantum chromodynamics. The experimental measurement of the charge separation is made difficult by the presence of a major background from elliptic azimuthal anisotropy. This background and the CME signal have different sensitivities to the spectator and participant planes, and could thus be determined by measurements with respect to these planes. We report such measurements in Au+Au collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. It is found that the charge separation, with the flow background removed, is consistent with zero in peripheral (large impact parameter) collisions. Some indication of finite CME signals is seen in midcentral (intermediate impact parameter) collisions. Significant residual background effects may, however, still be present.

Abstract
Abstract
The voids in fibers, especially in wet spun fibers are a major factor of fiber structure which greatly affects the fiber properties. A lot of research has shown that the inner voids and surface imperfections were the main causes of strength decreases. Therefore it is very important to determine the void morphology development in fiber processing in order to obtain high quality as-spun fiber.
In this paper we introduce a new method for the determination of void morphology using small angle x-ray scattering with a spline function method in which the average void size, size distribution and the related scattering power as well is obtained.

Abstract
Recently, the LHAASO Collaboration published the detection of 12 ultrahigh-energy γ-ray sources above 100 TeV, with the highest energy photon reaching 1.4 PeV. The first detection of PeV γ rays from astrophysical sources may provide a very sensitive probe of the effect of the Lorentz invariance violation (LIV), which results in decay of high-energy γ rays in the superluminal scenario and hence a sharp cutoff of the energy spectrum. Two highest energy sources are studied in this work. No signature of the existence of the LIV is found in their energy spectra, and the lower limits on the LIV energy scale are derived. Our results show that the first-order LIV energy scale should be higher than about 10^{5} times the Planck scale M_{Pl} and that the second-order LIV scale is >10^{-3}M_{Pl}. Both limits improve by at least one order of magnitude the previous results.

Abstract
Cell-laden hydrogel microspheres with uniform size show great potential for tissue repair and drug screening applications. Droplet microfluidic systems have been widely used for the generation of cell-laden hydrogel microspheres. However, existing droplet microfluidic systems are mostly based on complex chips and are not compatible with well culture plates. Moreover, microspheres produced by droplet microfluidics need demulsification and purification from oil, which requires time and effort and may compromise cell viability. Herein, we present a simple one-step approach for producing and purifying hydrogel microspheres with an easily assembled microfluidic device. Droplets were generated and solidified in the device tubing. The obtained hydrogel microspheres were then transferred to a tissue culture plate filled with cell culture media and demulsified through evaporation of the oil at 37°C. The removal of oil caused the gelled microspheres to be released into the cell culture media. The encapsulated cells demonstrated good viability and grew into tumor spheroids in 12–14 days. Single cell-laden hydrogel microspheres were also obtained and grown into spheroid in 14 days. This one-step microsphere generation method shows good potential for applications in automated spheroid and organoid cultures as well as drug screening, and could potentially offer benefits for translation of cell/microgel technologies.

Abstract
According to first-principle lattice QCD calculations, the transition from quark-gluon plasma to hadronic matter is a smooth crossover in the region μ_{B}≤T_{c}. In this range the ratio, C_{6}/C_{2}, of net-baryon distributions are predicted to be negative. In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the midrapidity net-proton C_{6}/C_{2} from 27, 54.4, and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The dependence on collision centrality and kinematic acceptance in (p_{T}, y) are analyzed. While for 27 and 54.4 GeV collisions the C_{6}/C_{2} values are close to zero within uncertainties, it is observed that for 200 GeV collisions, the C_{6}/C_{2} ratio becomes progressively negative from peripheral to central collisions. Transport model calculations without critical dynamics predict mostly positive values except for the most central collisions within uncertainties. These observations seem to favor a smooth crossover in the high-energy nuclear collisions at top RHIC energy.

Abstract
We propose a 2π-double-helix point spread function (2π-DH-PSF) using the Fresnel zone approach that can rotate 2π rad. When 16 Fresnel zones are used, the particles can be tracked in the axial range of 10 µm in a 100× microscopy imaging system (NA=1.4, λ=514nm). We measured the diffusion coefficient of nanospheres in different concentrations of glycerol with the 2π-DH-PSF, and the error between the measured results and theoretical value was within 10%, indicating the superior performance of 2π-DH-PSF in 3D localization imaging of nanoparticles. When combined with the defocus phase, the rotation angle can reach 4π rad, four times that of the conventional DH-PSF.

Abstract
We report on the first measurement of charm-strange meson D_{s}^{±} production at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV from the STAR experiment. The yield ratio between strange (D_{s}^{±}) and nonstrange (D^{0}) open-charm mesons is presented and compared to model calculations. A significant enhancement, relative to a pythia simulation of p+p collisions, is observed in the D_{s}^{±}/D^{0} yield ratio in Au+Au collisions over a large range of collision centralities. Model calculations incorporating abundant strange-quark production in the quark-gluon plasma and coalescence hadronization qualitatively reproduce the data. The transverse-momentum integrated yield ratio of D_{s}^{±}/D^{0} at midrapidity is consistent with a prediction from a statistical hadronization model with the parameters constrained by the yields of light and strange hadrons measured at the same collision energy. These results suggest that the coalescence of charm quarks with strange quarks in the quark-gluon plasma plays an important role in D_{s}^{±}-meson production in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
The Breit-Wheeler process which produces matter and antimatter from photon collisions is experimentally investigated through the observation of 6085 exclusive electron-positron pairs in ultraperipheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurements reveal a large fourth-order angular modulation of cos4Δϕ=(16.8±2.5)% and smooth invariant mass distribution absent of vector mesons (ϕ, ω, and ρ) at the experimental limit of ≤0.2% of the observed yields. The differential cross section as a function of e^{+}e^{-} pair transverse momentum P_{⊥} peaks at low value with sqrt[⟨P_{⊥}^{2}⟩]=38.1±0.9 MeV and displays a significant centrality dependence. These features are consistent with QED calculations for the collision of linearly polarized photons quantized from the extremely strong electromagnetic fields generated by the highly charged Au nuclei at ultrarelativistic speed. The experimental results have implications for vacuum birefringence and for mapping the magnetic field which is important for emergent QCD phenomena.

Abstract
The Crab Nebula is a bright source of gamma rays powered by the Crab Pulsar's rotational energy through the formation and termination of a relativistic electron-positron wind. We report the detection of gamma rays from this source with energies from 5 × 10-4 to 1.1 peta-electron volts with a spectrum showing gradual steepening over three energy decades. The ultrahigh-energy photons imply the presence of a peta-electron volt electron accelerator (a pevatron) in the nebula, with an acceleration rate exceeding 15% of the theoretical limit. We constrain the pevatron's size between 0.025 and 0.1 parsecs and the magnetic field to ≈110 microgauss. The production rate of peta-electron volt electrons, 2.5 × 1036 ergs per second, constitutes 0.5% of the pulsar spin-down luminosity, although we cannot exclude a contribution of peta-electron volt protons to the production of the highest-energy gamma rays.

Abstract
Using a cross-sectional study, 246 patients with hemorrhage and transformation after cerebral ischemic stroke(CIS) thrombolysis who were admitted to Shangqiu First People's Hospital, Shangqiu Municipal Hospital, and Shangqiu Liangyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from March 2018 to May 2020 were selected as the observation group, 246 patients with no hemorrhage transformation after CIS thrombolysis during the same period were selected as the control group with a ratio of 1∶1. Polymerase chain reaction and pyrosequencing methods were used to detect the single nucleotide polymorphisms of the two groups of ABCB1 genes. The frequency distribution of each genotype of the two groups of ABCB1 gene polymorphism sites was counted. The conditional logistic regression equation was used to analyze the CIS after thrombolysis. Related influencing factors of hemorrhage transformation, and compare the single nucleotide polymorphisms of ABCB1 gene in patients with different prognosis in the observation group. The results showed that the CC genotype frequency of rs1045642 in the observation group was 34.55% higher than that of the control group 25.02%, the CT genotype frequency was 12.20%, and the TT genotype frequency 3.25% was lower than that of the control group 14.63% and 9.35% (χ2=21.527, P<0.05); GG genotype frequency at rs2032582 locus in observation group was 17.89%, GT genotype frequency 21.54% was lower than control group 37.60%, 93.96%, TT genotype frequency 10.57% higher than control group 2.44%, the difference was statistically significant (χ2=80.427, P<0.05); TT genotype at rs1045642 is a protective factor for hemorrhage transformation, and TT genotype at rs2032582 is a risk factor for hemorrhage transformation (OR=2.903, P<0.05). The risk of bleeding after thrombolysis in CIS patients in Shangqiu area may be related to the TT genotype at the ABCB1 rs1045642 locus and the TT genotype at the rs2032582 locus.

Abstract
We report the discovery of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source around the location of the middle-aged (207.8 kyr) pulsar PSR J0622+3749 with the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). The source is detected with a significance of 8.2σ for E>25 TeV assuming a Gaussian template. The best-fit location is (right ascension, declination) =(95.47°±0.11°,37.92°±0.09°), and the extension is 0.40°±0.07°. The energy spectrum can be described by a power-law spectrum with an index of -2.92±0.17_{stat}±0.02_{sys}. No clear extended multiwavelength counterpart of the LHAASO source has been found from the radio to sub-TeV bands. The LHAASO observations are consistent with the scenario that VHE electrons escaped from the pulsar, diffused in the interstellar medium, and scattered the interstellar radiation field. If interpreted as the pulsar halo scenario, the diffusion coefficient, inferred for electrons with median energies of ∼160 TeV, is consistent with those obtained from the extended halos around Geminga and Monogem and much smaller than that derived from cosmic ray secondaries. The LHAASO discovery of this source thus likely enriches the class of so-called pulsar halos and confirms that high-energy particles generally diffuse very slowly in the disturbed medium around pulsars.

Double Superconducting Dome and Triple Enhancement of T_{c} in the Kagome Superconductor CsV_{3}Sb_{5} under High Pressure. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:247001. Abstract
CsV_{3}Sb_{5} is a newly discovered Z_{2} topological kagome metal showing the coexistence of a charge-density-wave (CDW)-like order at T^{*}=94 K and superconductivity (SC) at T_{c}=2.5 K at ambient pressure. Here, we study the interplay between CDW and SC in CsV_{3}Sb_{5} via measurements of resistivity, dc and ac magnetic susceptibility under various pressures up to 6.6 GPa. We find that the CDW transition decreases with pressure and experience a subtle modification at P_{c1}≈0.6-0.9 GPa before it vanishes completely at P_{c2}≈2 GPa. Correspondingly, T_{c}(P) displays an unusual M-shaped double dome with two maxima around P_{c1} and P_{c2}, respectively, leading to a tripled enhancement of T_{c} to about 8 K at 2 GPa. The obtained temperature-pressure phase diagram resembles those of unconventional superconductors, illustrating an intimated competition between CDW-like order and SC. The competition is found to be particularly strong for the intermediate pressure range P_{c1}≤P≤P_{c2} as evidenced by the broad superconducting transition and reduced superconducting volume fraction. The modification of CDW order around P_{c1} has been discussed based on the band structure calculations. This work not only demonstrates the potential to raise T_{c} of the V-based kagome superconductors, but also offers more insights into the rich physics related to the electron correlations in this novel family of topological kagome metals.

Abstract
The extension of the cosmic-ray spectrum beyond 1 petaelectronvolt (PeV; 1015 electronvolts) indicates the existence of the so-called PeVatrons-cosmic-ray factories that accelerate particles to PeV energies. We need to locate and identify such objects to find the origin of Galactic cosmic rays1. The principal signature of both electron and proton PeVatrons is ultrahigh-energy (exceeding 100 TeV) γ radiation. Evidence of the presence of a proton PeVatron has been found in the Galactic Centre, according to the detection of a hard-spectrum radiation extending to 0.04 PeV (ref. 2). Although γ-rays with energies slightly higher than 0.1 PeV have been reported from a few objects in the Galactic plane3-6, unbiased identification and in-depth exploration of PeVatrons requires detection of γ-rays with energies well above 0.1 PeV. Here we report the detection of more than 530 photons at energies above 100 teraelectronvolts and up to 1.4 PeV from 12 ultrahigh-energy γ-ray sources with a statistical significance greater than seven standard deviations. Despite having several potential counterparts in their proximity, including pulsar wind nebulae, supernova remnants and star-forming regions, the PeVatrons responsible for the ultrahigh-energy γ-rays have not yet been firmly localized and identified (except for the Crab Nebula), leaving open the origin of these extreme accelerators.

Abstract
Global polarization of Ξ and Ω hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurements of the Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+} hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay Ξ→Λ+π, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter Λ hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+}, is measured to be ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩=0.47±0.10(stat)±0.23(syst)% for the collision centrality 20%-80%. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive Λ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multiphase transport model. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. The global polarization of Ω, ⟨P_{Ω}⟩=1.11±0.87(stat)±1.97(syst)% was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter Λ in the decay Ω→Λ+K, assuming the polarization transfer factor C_{ΩΛ}=1.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Gastric cancer (GC) remains a serious disease to human health with high mortality worldwide. Evolving evidence implied that long non-coding RNA Opa interacting protein 5-antisense RNA1 (OIP5-AS1) went in for the pathological progress of GC. Nevertheless, the potential molecular mechanism of OIP5-AS1 needed to be further investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS Levels of OIP5-AS1, microRNA (miR)-153-3p, and zinc finger and BTB domain containing 2 (ZBTB2) were assessed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) or Western blot assays. 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) was implemented to detect cell proliferation in vitro. Cell apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry. Besides, transwell assay was conducted to examine cell migration and invasion in AGS and MKN45 cells. The interaction between miR-153-3p and OIP5-AS1 or ZBTB2 was validated utilizing dual-luciferase reporter assay. Lastly, the role of OIP5-AS1 in tumor growth was researched through adopting xenograft tumor model. RESULTS OIP5-AS1 and ZBTB2 were strongly higher in GC tissues than noncancerous samples. OIP5-AS1 silencing remarkably curbed cell proliferation, migration and invasion, and elevated cell apoptosis in both AGS and MKN45 cells. Functional analysis indicated that OIP5-AS1 regulated ZBTB2 expression via binding to miR-153-3p. Moreover, the role of miR-153-3p in cell growth and metastasis was abrogated by ZBTB2 overexpression. Above all, OIP5-AS1 could reduce the growth of xenograft tumor in vivo. CONCLUSIONS OIP5-AS1 exerted its role via miR-153-3p/ZBTB2 axis in the progression of GC cells. These findings might supply a biomarker for the diagnosis and therapy of GC clinically.

Abstract
Nonmonotonic variation with collision energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of the moments of the net-baryon number distribution in heavy-ion collisions, related to the correlation length and the susceptibilities of the system, is suggested as a signature for the quantum chromodynamics critical point. We report the first evidence of a nonmonotonic variation in the kurtosis times variance of the net-proton number (proxy for net-baryon number) distribution as a function of sqrt[s_{NN}] with 3.1 σ significance for head-on (central) gold-on-gold (Au+Au) collisions measured solenoidal tracker at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Data in noncentral Au+Au collisions and models of heavy-ion collisions without a critical point show a monotonic variation as a function of sqrt[s_{NN}].

Chen N, Jiang K, Yan GG. Effect of fenofibrate on diabetic retinopathy in rats via SIRT1/NF-κB signaling pathway. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2020; 23:8630-8636. [PMID: 31646597 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201910_19180] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the influence of fenofibrate on the diabetic retinopathy (DR) in rats via the sirtuin1 (SIRT1)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 30 SD rats were divided into group A (DR group), group B (fenofibrate treatment group) and group C (Healthy group). Rats in group A were intraperitoneally injected with 50 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) for 5 days without feeding. After fasting for 2 days, blood was drawn from the tail veins of the rats to measure blood glucose, and blood glucose ≥16.7 mmol/L represented that the model was eligible. Those in group B were injected with STZ and nourished with the mixed feed containing fenofibrate (10 mg/kg). Those in group C were intraperitoneally injected with normal saline and set as negative control group. The retinal structure of rats in the three groups was observed via immunohistochemical staining, and the apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) was evaluated via terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay. Moreover, the protein expressions of Sirtuin1 (SIRT1) and NF-κB were detected using immunofluorescence assay and Western blotting. RESULTS According to the immunohistochemical staining results, rats in group C had intact retinal nuclear layer tissues without phenomena such as fracture, disorderly arrangement, blur structures, and nerve fiber layer edema. Those in group A exhibited fracture of retinal nuclear layer tissues, disorderly arranged cells, blur retinal structures at all layers, and a quite evident nerve fiber layer edema. Compared to that in group A, the nerve fiber layer edema in group B was significantly improved. The TUNEL assay results revealed that compared to normal rats in group C, those in group A and group B had apoptotic RGCs. Additionally, the number of apoptotic cells was the largest in group A, and compared to that in group A, it was notably reduced in group B after treatment with fenofibrate. According to the immunofluorescence assay results, after being treated with fenofibrate, rats in group B showed a significantly lower protein expression level of NF-κB in the retina than in group A. Based on the Western blotting detection results, the protein expression level of NF-κB in group B was evidently lower than that in group A, and was the highest in group A and the lowest in group C. Compared to that in group C, the protein expression level of SIRT1 in group B was increased. CONCLUSIONS Fenofibrate facilitates the expression of SIRT1 in the retinal tissues to reduce the NF-κB activity, thereby treating DR in rats.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Morinda officinalis is a well-known Chinese tonic herb that has shown clinical efficacy in the treatment of bone disease. However, its anti-osteoporotic potential and the M. officinalis polysaccharides (MOPs) responsible for activity require further investigation. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aimed to investigate the anti-osteoporotic effects of different MOP fractions in ovariectomized (OVX) rats, and to identify the osteoprotective components by bioassay-guided isolation. MATERIALS AND METHODS MOPs were prepared by hot water and alkali extraction, separated into three fractions (MO50, MO70, and MOB) and evaluated in the classic OVX rat model and in MC3T3-E1 cells for anti-osteoporotic activity. RESULTS Administration of MOPs (400 mg/kg/day) provided significant protection against ovariectomy-induced bone loss and biomechanical dysfunction in rats. Treated animals exhibited reduced deterioration of trabecular microarchitecture and lower levels of bone turnover markers. Bioactivity-guided fractionation led to the isolation of two inulin-type fructans from MO50, MOW50-1 and MOP50-2, with potential anti-osteoporotic activities. These consisted of (2 → 1)-linked β-D-fructosyl residues with degrees of polymerization (DP) of 7 and 13, respectively. Furthermore, MOW50-1 promoted osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells by increasing alkaline phosphatase activity. CONCLUSIONS These data suggest very strongly that MOPs, especially MO50 and MOW50-1, may play important roles in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2020; 23:9890-9899. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth common cancer worldwide. Long non-coding RNA TOB1 antisense RNA 1 (TOB1-AS1) has been found to participate in the process of GC, while the precise role of TOB1-AS1 is still not understood in GC progression. MATERIALS AND METHODS We collected 21-paired GC and para-carcinoma tissue specimens, and the levels of TOB1-AS1 and lysosomal sialidase (NEU1) were detected by quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). The protein expression levels of NEU1, b-catenin, c-Myc, Cyclin D1, N-cadherin were determined via Western blot. Cell proliferation was assessed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Flow cytometry was performed to evaluate cell proliferation. Besides, GC cell migration and invasion capacities were identified by transwell assay. Dual-Luciferase reporter assay was employed to examine the interrelation between miR-23a and TOB1-AS1 or NEU1. Finally, the role of TOB1-AS1 was verified in vivo. RESULTS The levels of TOB1-AS1 were decreased in GC tissues and cell lines. Either TOB1-AS1 or NEU1 upregulation accelerated GC cell apoptosis, hampered proliferation, migration, and invasion. Further, the role of TOB1-AS1 silencing on cell behaviors was abrogated by NEU1 upregulation. TOB1-AS1 and NEU1 exerted their roles via Wnt/b-catenin signaling pathway. Overexpression of TOB1-AS1 blocked GC development in vivo. Mechanically, miR-23a was targeted by TOB1-AS1, but directly targeted NEU1. CONCLUSIONS TOB1-AS1/miR-23a/NEU1 axis regulated proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion of GC cells via Wnt/b-catenin pathway, providing the evidence for serving TOB1-AS1 as an underlying therapeutic target in human GC treatment.
