Abstract
Background Studies have highlighted common challenges and barriers to patient engagement in research, but most were based on patient partners' or academic researchers' experiences. A better understanding of how both groups differentially experience their partnership could help identify strategies to improve collaboration in patient engagement research. Aim This study aimed to describe and compare patient partners' and academic researchers' experiences in patient engagement research. Methods Based on a participatory approach, a descriptive qualitative study was conducted with patient partners and academic researchers who are involved in the PriCARE research programme in primary health care to examine their experience of patient engagement. Individual semi‐structured interviews with patient partners (n = 7) and academic researchers (n = 15) were conducted. Academic researchers' interview verbatims, deidentified patient partners' summaries of their interviews and summaries of meetings with patient partners were analysed using inductive thematic analysis in collaboration with patient partners. Results Patient partners and academic researchers' experiences with patient engagement are captured within four themes: (1) evolving relationships; (2) creating an environment that fosters patient engagement; (3) striking a balance; and (4) impact and value of patient engagement. Evolving relationships refers to how partnerships grew and improved over time with an acceptance of tensions and willingness to move beyond them, two‐way communication and leadership of key team members. Creating an environment that fosters patient engagement requires appropriate structural support, such as clear descriptions of patient partner roles; adequate training for all team members; institutional guidance on patient engagement; regular and appropriate translation services; and financial assistance. For patient partners and academic researchers, striking a balance referred to the challenge of reconciling patient partners' interests and established research practices. Finally, both groups recognized the value and positive impact of patient engagement in the programme in terms of improving the relevance of research and the applicability of results. While patient partners and academic researchers identified similar challenges and strategies, their experiences of patient engagement differed according to their own backgrounds, motives and expectations. Conclusion Both patient partners and academic researchers highlighted the importance of finding a balance between providing structure or guidelines for patient engagement, while allowing for flexibility along the way. Patient or Public Contribution Patient partners from the PriCARE research programme were involved in the following aspects of the current study: (1) development of the research objectives; (2) planning of the research design; (3) development and validation of data collection tools (i.e., interview guides); (4) production of data (i.e., acted as interviewees); (5) validation of data analysis tools (code book); (6) analysis of qualitative data; and (7) drafting of the manuscript and contributing to other knowledge translation activities, such as conference presentations and the creation of a short animated video.

Abstract
Context. There is growing evidence supporting patients' engagement (PE) in primary care research to improve the quality, relevance, and uptake of research. However, guidance is still needed to plan and operationalize this engagement during the research process. Objective. To develop a logic model illustrating empirically the causal links between context, resources, activities, and expected outcomes of PE in an implementation research program in primary care. Study design. Instrumental case study. Setting. A research program (PriCARE) aiming to implement and evaluate a case management intervention (CMI) in primary care clinics across five provinces in Canada. Population studied. Research team members. Methods. Data collection. Participant observation and in-depth interviews (n=22) conducted by two independent research assistants with research team members: principal investigators (n=5); co-investigators (n=2); research coordinators and assistants (n=8); and patient partners (n=7). Analysis. Deductive thematic analysis using components of the logic model as coding categories. All data were coded using NVivo 12 software. Data were reduced and organized in a first logic model version. Team meetings helped to refine the logic model. The final version was validated by all research team members. Results. The logic model provides an empirical illustration of the relationship between context, resources, activities, and expected outcomes for PE. Mobilized resources (human, financial, organizational, and communicational) allow research team members to be involved in many activities related to PE: recruitment, training, and support of patient partners; development of a governance structure; participation in research activities; agreement on decision-making processes; training and support of clinicians; development of tools for patients' involvement in the CMI. These activities lead to the following benefits for health research: improved communication amongst all team members, results and knowledge translation; development of a PE culture; capacity building; democratization of health research; and for healthcare: improved implementation of the intervention; improved patient engagement in their care; better health outcomes and resource utilization; support of decision-makers and clinicians; and better practices. Conclusions. The logic model may be useful for the planning, operationalization and evaluation of PPE in primary care research programs.

Abstract
Context. Case management interventions (CMIs) are recognized to improve patients' experience of integrated care, to promote better utilization of healthcare resources, and to reduce emergency department visits, hospitalizations and health care costs. However, contextual factors influencing implementation of CMIs in primary care settings in Canada still need to be studied. Objective. To examine facilitators and barriers influencing implementation planning, engagement of key actors and the start-up phases of a CMI led by nurse case managers for frequent users of healthcare services with chronic diseases and complex care needs. Study design. Qualitative multiple case study design. Setting. Six primary care clinics across four provinces in Canada. Population studied. Frequent users of healthcare services with chronic diseases and complex care needs. Intervention. A CMI led by nurse case managers that included four main components: 1) patient needs assessment; 2) care planning, including an individual services plan (ISP); 3) coordination of services among health and social services partners; 4) self-management support for patients and families. Methods. Data collection: in-depth interviews with nurse case managers (n=10), clinic managers (n=5), and other healthcare professionals (n=5); six focus groups with family physicians (n=20), and other healthcare professionals (n=8); and field notes by research coordinators. Analysis: Mixed descriptive thematic analysis; intra-case histories; systematic comparison among cases by means of a descriptive and interpretative matrix; investigator and patient partners triangulation. Outcome Measures. Factors influencing the implementation of the CMI in primary care settings. Results. Difficulty of access to patient hospital information is a common barrier to all cases, as well as identification and recruitment of patients with the greatest needs of a CMI. Nurse case managers need extra time in the short term, especially when preparing and conducting the ISP. On the other hand, a culture of patient-centredness and collaboration; managerial and clinical leadership and support; and a positive perception of the CMI alongside provider engagement helps to overcome these barriers. Conclusions. This study may help researchers, decision-makers and clinicians plan the implementation of CMIs in primary care settings for frequent users of healthcare services with chronic diseases and complex care needs.

Abstract
Context: Health researchers are increasingly engaging patients and their families as partners in the research process, from inception to knowledge translation. The trend toward 'patient-oriented' research is encouraged by a growing view that studies which integrate the patient perspective will make better use of resources to produce more relevant evidence that can be more easily translated to clinical settings. While there is an emerging literature on best practices, challenges, and learnings related to patient engagement (PE), few studies consider the experiences of patient partners (PP) and researchers in the same project. This presentation will present PP and researcher experiences of PE, highlighting important similarities and differences and proposing recommendations. Objectives: To characterize PE experience from the perspective of researchers and PP working together on the same research program, PriCARE; to identify successes and challenges; to ascertain contributions of PE in health research. Study Design: Qualitative. Setting or Dataset: This study was conducted within the larger 5-province PriCARE study examining a nurse-led case management intervention for primary care patients with complex needs. Population studied: 22 members of the study team (7 PP, 8 coordinators, 2 co-investigators, 5 principal investigators). Methods: Data collection: In-depth interviews using guides co-created by researchers and PP covering topics such as PE-related training and knowledge, and reflections on PE processes and impact. Research assistants external to the PriCARE study conducted interviews, transcribed researcher interviews, and generated a summary of PP interviews. Analysis: Data were analyzed thematically using a coding framework that was co-developed with PP. Outcome Measures: Researcher and patient experiences of PE, PP contributions to health research. Results: All team members need PE training at the beginning of and throughout the research process. Evolving trust and flexibility helped team members to navigate different experiences and priorities. PP make integral contributions to study and instrument design, data analysis, and knowledge translation. Clear expectations about the degree and nature of PE and team members' roles are critical. Conclusions: Meaningful PE requires patient-researcher partnership and clear expectation setting at the outset and throughout the research process, and ongoing flexibility to adapt.

Abstract
Background Adults with chronic conditions who also suffer from mental health comorbidities and/or social vulnerability require services from many providers across different sectors. They may have complex health and social care needs and experience poorer health indicators and high mortality rates while generating considerable costs to the health and social services system. In response, the literature has stressed the need for a collaborative approach amongst providers to facilitate the care transition process. A better understanding of care transitions is the next step towards the improvement of integrated care models. The aim of the study is to better understand care transitions of adults with complex health and social care needs across community, primary care, and hospital settings, combining the experiences of patients and their families, providers, and health managers. Methods/design We will conduct a two-phase mixed methods multiple case study (quantitative and qualitative). We will work with six cases in three Canadian provinces, each case being the actual care transitions across community, primary care, and hospital settings. Adult patients with complex needs will be identified by having visited the emergency department at least three times over the previous 12 months. To ensure they have complex needs, they will be invited to complete INTERMED Self-Assessment and invited to enroll if positive. For the quantitative phase, data will be obtained through questionnaires and multi-level regression analyses will be conducted. For the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews and focus groups will be conducted with patients, family members, care providers, and managers, and thematic analysis will be performed. Quantitative and qualitative results will be compared and then merged. Discussion This study is one of the first to examine care transitions of adults with complex needs by adopting a comprehensive vision of care transitions and bringing together the experiences of patients and family members, providers, and health managers. By using an integrated knowledge translation approach with key knowledge users, the study’s findings have the potential to inform the optimization of integrated care, to positively impact the health of adults with complex needs, and reduce the economic burden to the health and social care systems. Abstract
Swimrun was established in Sweden in 2006. In competition athletes alternate between running and swimming multiple times. It has grown from only being hosted in Sweden to now being a global sport. The swimrun race exposes athletes to environments that require a unique set of skills. For example, participants have to negotiate ocean currents and waves. The environmental conditions change between the runs and the swims. Athletes may be exposed to hot temperatures when running in wetsuits (25 °C and hotter) and cold water (colder than 16 °C) when swimming. This sudden change in environmental conditions imposes a poorly defined physiological stress on the participants. Research on the demands of swimrun is scarce. More research is needed to improve athlete safety during events. Also, research is needed to provide insight into enhancing training methods and performance.

Abstract
The case study design is particularly useful for implementation analysis of complex health care innovations in primary care that can be influenced by the context of dynamic environments. Case studies may be combined with participatory approaches where academics conduct joint research with nonacademic stakeholders, to foster translation of findings results into practice. The aim of this article is to clarify epistemological and methodological considerations of case studies with a participatory approach. It also aims to propose best practice recommendations when using this case study approach. We distinguish between the participatory case study with full co-construction and co-governance, and the case study with a participatory approach whereby stakeholders are consulted in certain phases of the research. We then compare the epistemological posture of 3 prominent case study methodologists, Yin, Stake, and Merriam, to present the epistemological posture of case studies with a participatory approach. The relevance, applications, and procedures of a case study with a participatory approach methodology are illustrated through a concrete example of a primary care research program (PriCARE). We propose 12 steps for designing and conducting a case study with a participatory approach that may help guide researchers in the implementation analysis of complex health care innovations in primary care.

Abstract
Background Patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) are widely recognized as important tools for achieving a patient‐centred approach in health research. While PROMs are subject to several stages of validation during development, even questionnaires with robust psychometric properties may challenge patient comfort and understanding. Aim Building on the experience of patient engagement in the PriCARE research programme, this paper outlines the team's response to concerns raised by patient partners regarding the administration of the questionnaire. Methods Based on a participatory action research design and the patient engagement framework in the Strategy for Patient‐Oriented Research of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, PriCARE team members worked together to discuss concerns, review the questionnaires and come up with solutions. Data were collected through participant observation of team meetings. Results This paper demonstrates how patient partners were engaged in PriCARE and integrated into the programme's governance structure, focusing on the challenges that they raised regarding the questionnaires and how these were addressed by PriCARE team members in a six‐step approach: (1) Recognizing patient partner concerns, discussing concerns and reframing the challenges; (2) Detailing and sharing evidence of the validity of the questionnaires; (3) Evaluating potential solutions; (4) Searching the literature for guidelines; (5) Creating guidelines; and (6) Sharing and refining guidelines. Conclusion This six‐step approach demonstrates how research teams can integrate patient partners as equal members, develop meaningful collaboration through recognition of individual experiences and expertise and ensure that the patient perspective is taken into consideration in research and healthcare innovation. Patient or Public Contribution All patient partners from the PriCARE programme were actively involved in the six‐step approach. They were also involved in the preparation of the manuscript.

Abstract
Rodent predators are implicated in declines of seabird populations, and removing introduced rats, often, but not always, results in the expected conservation gains. Here we investigated the relationship between small mammal (Norway rat, wood mouse and pygmy shrew) abundance and Manx shearwater breeding success on the island of Rum, Scotland, and tested whether localised rodenticide treatments (to control introduced Norway rats) increased Manx shearwater breeding success. We found that Manx shearwater breeding success was negatively correlated with late summer indices of abundance for rats and mice, but not shrews. On its own, rat activity was a poor predictor of Manx shearwater breeding success. Rat activity increased during the shearwater breeding season in untreated areas but was supressed in areas treated with rodenticides. Levels of mouse (and shrew) activity increased in areas treated with rodenticides (likely in response to lower levels of rat activity) and Manx shearwater breeding success was unchanged in treated areas (p < 0.1). The results suggest that, unexpectedly, negative effects from wood mice can substitute those of Norway rats and that both species contributed to negative impacts on Manx shearwaters. Impacts were intermittent however, and further research is needed to characterise rodent population trends and assess the long-term risks to this seabird colony. The results have implications for conservation practitioners planning rat control programmes on islands where multiple rodent species are present.

Abstract
Background Breast cancer survivors (BCS) can exhibit a dysregulation of cortisol and elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels post-treatment, which increase the risk of diverse health outcomes. Certain behavioural, physical, and psychological variables may help to predict cortisol and CRP levels post-treatment. The aims of this study were to: (1) describe naturally occurring changes in absolute diurnal cortisol and CRP levels over a period of 1.5 years post-treatment among BCS, (2) assess if absolute diurnal cortisol and CRP levels change in tandem, and (3) assess behavioural, physical, and psychological variables as predictors of absolute diurnal cortisol levels and CRP levels. Methods Capillary blood and saliva samples were collected from 201 BCS, on average, 3.5 months post-treatment (T1) and again 3, 6, 9, and 12 months later (T2−T5). At each time point, five saliva samples were collected on two nonconsecutive days: at awakening, 30 min after awakening, 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and at bedtime. At each time point, participants also completed self-report questionnaires and wore an accelerometer for seven consecutive days. Data were analyzed using multilevel modeling. Results Absolute diurnal cortisol levels did not change significantly over time. CRP levels decreased across time points (Blinear = −0.31, p = .01), though the rate of decrease slowed over time (Bquadratic = 0.05, p = .03). Generally, greater sedentary time predicted higher overall absolute diurnal cortisol levels (B < 0.01, p = .01); whereas higher physical activity (B = −0.004, p < .01), lower body mass index (B = 0.10, p < .01), and lower health- and cancer-related stress (B = 0.24, p = .04) predicted lower overall CRP levels. Also, lower absolute diurnal cortisol levels were evident when participants engaged in more sedentary time, as compared to their own average sedentary time (B = −0.01, p < .01). Conclusions Results offer insight into the nature of change in diurnal cortisol and CRP levels among BCS from treatment completion onwards and offer clinical implications. Helping BCS manage their weight, reduce stress, increase physical activity participation, and decrease sedentary time as soon as possible after treatment may help to reduce physiological dysregulations, thereby lowering the risk of adverse health outcomes in this population. Further research investigating specific intervention parameters such as type, context, frequency, and intensity are warranted for the development of the most optimal interventions.

Abstract
Introduction Les services de Médecine Interne mènent une importante activité de recours expert et de recherche, grevée par plusieurs obstacles. L’activité d’avis spécialisés est chronophage, non valorisée, et limitée par l’impossibilité d’échanger simplement les éléments du dossier médical. L’activité de recherche clinique est limitée par la fréquence des visites protocolaires. L’objectif de ce travail est de déterminer si la télémédecine (TLM) peut contribuer à résoudre ces difficultés. Patients et méthodes Concernant l’activité de recours, nous avons demandé aux médecins de déclarer les avis donnés à l’aide d’un formulaire standardisé, afin de déterminer s’ils validaient les critères de téléconsultation (TLC) ou de télé-expertise (TLE). Concernant l’activité de recherche, nous avons remis aux investigateurs et à 50 patients un questionnaire sur l’acceptabilité de TLC protocolaires. Résultats Concernant l’activité de recours, on dénombrait 120 avis (soit 21 h) hebdomadaires, dont 29 % aux patients et 69 % à des médecins. Soixante et un pour cent des avis aux patients validaient les critères de TLC ; 18 % des avis aux médecins ceux de TLE. Concernant l’activité de recherche, 70 % des investigateurs considéraient la fréquence des visites comme limitant les inclusions ; près de la moitié des patients serait favorable au recours à des TLC à la place (40 %) ou en plus (56 %) des visites présentielles. En termes de facturation, la TLM représente un revenu potentiel de 300 € hebdomadaires pour le TLE et 616€ hebdomadaires pour le TLC. Conclusion Si le recours à la TLM comme procédure dégradée au présentiel s’est démocratisé avec la pandémie, les solutions qu’elle apporte aux difficultés rencontrées dans les activités d’avis et de recherche peuvent contribuer à intégrer pleinement son usage dans le suivi standard des patients. Si tel était le cas, on pourrait tout à fait imaginer avec ce budget (47 632 €/an) pouvoir financer un praticien hospitalier supplémentaire à temps partiel.

Abstract
Background:Autoimmune diseases occur more frequently in females and their course and severity can be affected by gender. Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune disorder in which antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) exert a pathogenic role resulting in vascular thrombosis and/or pregnancy morbidities. Data about gender differences in thrombotic APS (t-APS) are still scarce1,2.Objectives:To evaluate the differences in frequency, disease expression and severity between females and males affected by primary t-APS.Methods:Retrospective study enrolling subjects with a formal diagnosis of primary APS (Miyakis 2006) with vascular thrombosis at onset. Women who presented with obstetric events as first aPL-related manifestation were excluded. All the patients were followed from 1967 to 2019 in four European centers: three French centers and one Italian center.Results:The study included 433 patients (68% females, 32% males). Median age at t-APS onset [31 (24-46) vs 41 (29-53) years, p<0.001] and at diagnosis [34 (27-50) vs 46 (34-57) years, p<0.001] was significantly lower in females.The most common presenting manifestations were venous thrombosis (60%) followed by arterial events (37%) and catastrophic APS (3%). Venous events were more frequent in women as compared to men (64% vs 51% p:0.012 OR:1.7 [1.1-2.5]). Sites of venous thrombosis included: limbs (35%), pulmonary (17%), cerebral (3%), portal and inferior cava (2%) and retinal (1%) veins, without gender differences. The arterial events were more frequent among men (43% vs 34% p:0.053). Strokes (27%) and myocardial infarctions (4%) were the most frequent manifestations, followed by thrombosis of limbs (2%), retina (2%) and abdominal organs (1%). Noteworthy, only men presented with visceral ischemia.During the follow-up, new thrombosis occurred in 41% of patients (179/433). 33% out of them had at least two episodes and these occurred especially among males (22% vs 10% p:0.001 OR:2.5 [1.3-4.8]). New events were mostly of the same type, but ⅓ of patients presented a switch from venous to arterial side and viceversa, with no gender differences.Complete aPL profile was available in 357 subjects: 33% had single aPL positivity, 24% double positivity and 43% triple positivity, with no differences between women and men. About 80% of the patients had a concomitant risk factor (RF) for thrombosis. Established cardiovascular RFs were more represented among men as shown in table 1. No differences were observed in the distribution of the aPL profile. The different frequency of arterial and venous events in the two groups could be attributed mainly to the presence of additional RFs rather than to biological gender-specific issues. However, it should be underlined that some RFs, such as the use of estrogens or classic cardiovascular RFs, are exclusive or more represented in one gender rather than the other, making it difficult to assess the link of causality between gender and manifestations of t-APS.References:[1]JF de Carvalho. Abstract
T lymphocyte migration is an essential step to mounting an efficient immune response. The rapid and random motility of these cells which favors their sentinel role is conditioned by chemokines as well as by the physical environment. Morphological changes, underlaid by dynamic actin cytoskeleton remodeling, are observed throughout migration but especially when the cell modifies its trajectory. However, the signaling cascade regulating the directional changes remains largely unknown. Using dynamic cell imaging, we investigated in this paper the signaling pathways involved in T cell directionality. We monitored cyclic adenosine 3′-5′ monosphosphate (cAMP) variation concomitantly with actomyosin distribution upon T lymphocyte migration and highlighted the fact that spontaneous bursts in cAMP starting from the leading edge, are sufficient to promote actomyosin redistribution triggering trajectory modification. Although cAMP is commonly considered as an immunosuppressive factor, our results suggest that, when transient, it rather favors the exploratory behavior of T cells.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Genitourinary menopause syndrome (SGUM) is defined as a set of symptoms associated with a decrease of estrogen and other sexual steroids during menopause. The main symptoms are vulvovaginal (dryness, burning, itching), sexual (dyspareunia), and urinary (urinary infections, pollakiuria, nycturia, pain, urinary incontinence by urgenturia). SGUM leads to an alteration of the quality of life, and affects especially women's sexuality. OBJECTIVE The objective of this review was to elaborate guidelines for clinical practice regarding the management of SGUM in postmenopausal women, and in particular, in women with a history of breast cancer, treated or not with hormone therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS A systematic review of the literature on SGUM management was conducted on Pubmed, Medline and Cochrane Library. Recommendations from international scholarly societies were also taken into account: International Menopause Society (IMS) https://www.imsociety.org, The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) https://www.menopause.org, Canadian Menopause Society https://www.sigmamenopause.com, European Menopause and Andropause Society (EMAS) https://www.emas-online.org, International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH) https://www.isswsh.org. RESULTS Vaginal use of lubricants, moisturizers and hyaluronic acid improves the symptoms of SGUM and may be offered to all patients. For postmenopausal women, local estrogen will be preferred to the oral route because of their safety and efficacy on all symptoms of SGUM during low-dose use. Prasterone is a local treatment that can be proposed as an effective alternative for the management of dyspareunia and sexual function disorder. Current data on oral testosterone, tibolone, oral or transdermal DHEA and herbal medicine are currently limited. Ospemifène, which has shown a significant improvement in sexual symptoms, is not currently marketed in France. In the particular case of women with a history of breast cancer, non-hormonal regimens are a first-line therapy. Current data on the risk of breast cancer recurrence when administering low-dose local estrogen are reassuring but do not support a conclusion that this treatment is safe. CONCLUSION SGUM is a common symptom that can affect the quality of life of postmenopausal women. A treatment should be systematically proposed. Local non-hormonal treatment may be offered in all women. Local low-dose estrogen therapy and Prasterone has shown an interest in the management of symptoms. In women before a history of breast cancer, local non-hormonal treatment should be offered first-line. The safety of low-dose local estrogen therapy and Prasterone cannot be established at this time. Other alternatives exist but are not currently recommended in France due to lack of data.

Abstract
Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) regulates key biological processes downstream of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in normal and cancer cells, but the modes of kinase activation by these receptors remain unclear. We report that after GPCR stimulation, FAK activation is controlled by a sequence of events depending on the scaffolding proteins β-arrestins and G proteins. Depletion of β-arrestins results in a marked increase in FAK autophosphorylation and focal adhesion number. We demonstrate that β-arrestins interact directly with FAK and inhibit its autophosphorylation in resting cells. Both FAK-β-arrestin interaction and FAK inhibition require the FERM domain of FAK. Following the stimulation of the angiotensin receptor AT1AR and subsequent translocation of the FAK-β-arrestin complex to the plasma membrane, β-arrestin interaction with the adaptor AP-2 releases inactive FAK from the inhibitory complex, allowing its activation by receptor-stimulated G proteins and activation of downstream FAK effectors. Release and activation of FAK in response to angiotensin are prevented by an AP-2-binding deficient β-arrestin and by a specific inhibitor of β-arrestin/AP-2 interaction; this inhibitor also prevents FAK activation in response to vasopressin. This previously unrecognized mechanism of FAK regulation involving a dual role of β-arrestins, which inhibit FAK in resting cells while driving its activation at the plasma membrane by GPCR-stimulated G proteins, opens new potential therapeutic perspectives in cancers with up-regulated FAK.

Abstract
This study aimed to (1) identify generic questionnaires that measure self-management in people with chronic conditions, (2) describe their characteristics, (3) describe their development and theoretical foundations, and (4) identify categories of self-management strategies they assessed. This scoping review was based on the methodological framework developed by Arksey and O’Malley and completed by Levac et al. A thematic analysis was used to examine self-management strategies assessed by the questionnaires published between 1976 and 2019. A total of 21 articles on 10 generic, self-reported questionnaires were identified. The questionnaires were developed using various theoretical foundations. The Patient Assessment of Self-Management Tasks and Partners in Health scale questionnaires possessed characteristics that made them suitable for use in clinical and research settings and for evaluating all categories of self-management strategies. This study provides clinicians and researchers with an overview of generic, self-reported questionnaires and highlights some of their practical characteristics.
