Abstract
Four monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) with specificities for epitopes on human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) proteins preserved after formalin fixation and paraffin embedding were identified in fixed and embedded virus-infected HEp-2 cell pellets. The MAbs bound epitopes on the fusion protein, the nucleoprotein, the phosphoprotein, and the M2 protein of the virus. Following high-temperature antigen unmasking, immunohistochemical staining revealed RSV antigens in the lungs of five of seven children who died with confirmed RSV infection and in none of nine children who died for other reasons, with no evidence of RSV infection. Staining was cytoplasmic, granular, and confined to epithelial cells. Intense staining was seen at the apex of ciliated bronchial and bronchiolar epithelial cells in all five positive cases. In one case, of pneumonitis, infected pneumocytes were present in the alveoli and in several cases, CD68-positive, cytokeratin-negative alveolar macrophages stained for viral antigens. These antibodies may prove useful in studies of the pathogenesis of RSV infection.

Abstract
We report on a 3-year-old-girl with mosaic partial trisomy 17 due to an additional ring chromosome 17 in 13% of cells analysed. This was identified by fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) using a whole chromosome 17 specific paint as well as probes specific for the Smith-Magenis and Miller-Dieker regions of chromosome 17p. This girl showed mild developmental delay with subtle facial and other minor abnormalities including single palmar creases, generalised joint laxity, and a scoliosis.

Abstract
A gene for Holt-Oram syndrome (HOS) has been previously mapped to chromosome 12q2 and designated HOS1. We have identified a HOS patient with a de novo chromosomal rearrangement involving 12q. Detailed cytogenetic analysis of this case reveals three breaks on 12q, and two of these are within the HOS1 interval. By using a combination of chromosome painting and FISH with YACs and cosmids, it has been possible to map these breakpoints within the critical HOS1 interval and thus provide a focus for HOS gene-identification efforts.

Abstract
A congenital fetal rhabdomyoma was removed from the neck of a male infant on the second day of life. The lesion recurred 10 years later with histological features suggestive of increased differentiation and no evidence of malignant transformation. An unrelated patient of 3 years suffered from a recurrent fetal rhabdomyoma 4 months after the initial resection. The possibility of early or late recurrence must be considered when a diagnosis of fetal-type rhabdomyoma is made.

Abstract
It has been suggested that the most likely cause of the Testicular Regression Syndrome (TRS) is ante-natal torsion of the testis. As testicular torsion is twice as common on the left this theory cannot explain the incidence of right sided or bilateral cases. From a 5-year retrospective surgical and pathological review, we confirmed that the left testis was the most commonly affected, that boys with TRS tended to be delivered closer to term, and that frequently both testes were present at birth, but one or both subsequently vanished. We also found that direct trauma can produce histological findings indistinguishable from TRS. Close to term, fetal testes are liable to be intrascrotal and therefore susceptible to direct trauma. As the left testis descends into the scrotum at an earlier stage than the right, it is therefore at greater risk of injury. Since the findings of TRS can be produced by direct trauma, we suggest that intra-partum trauma may predispose to the TRS.

Abstract
A cocktail of 10 oligonucleotides selected at intervals along the length of the genome of human parvovirus B19 was labelled enzymically with digoxigenin and chemically with either digoxigenin (DIG) or dinitrophenyl (DNP). Chemical labelling was easier and more practical for the production of large quantities of probe. Pools labelled with either digoxigenin or DNP could detect 10 fg of B19 DNA in a dot blot reaction using an alkaline phosphatase antibody conjugate and colorimetric detection. Formalin fixed tissue from 11 consecutive cases of fetal hydrops were examined by in situ hybridisation (ISH). Both probe cocktails detected human parvovirus B19 DNA in 3 cases, with positive cells in all tissues examined and with equal sensitivity. The DNP pool is significantly cheaper and simpler to produce and could provide an inexpensive reagent suitable for diagnostic detection of viral nucleic acid in histopathological material.

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the degree to which several independent variables correlate with perceived instance of academic misconduct among nursing students. Maslow's Need-Goal Motivation Model served as the guiding framework for the study. It was postulated that nursing students' perceptions of their peers' maturity, academic commitment, and neutralizing attitude would be correlated with perceptions of their peers' involvement in various forms of academic misconduct. Results indicated a moderately high degree of correlation exists among the variables (Function I Rc2 = 0.325; p < .001).

Abstract
The RPS3 and RPM1 disease resistance loci of Arabidopsis confer resistance to Pseudomonas syringae strains that carry the avirulence genes avrB and avrRpm1, respectively. We have previously shown that RPS3 and RPM1 are closely linked genetically. Here, we show that RPS3 and RPM1 are in fact the same gene. We screened a mutagenized Arabidopsis population with a P. syringae strain carrying avrB and found 12 susceptible mutants. All 12 mutants were also susceptible to an isogenic strain carrying avrRpm1, indicating a loss of both RPS3 and RPM1 functions. No mutants were recovered that lost only RPS3 function. Genetic analysis of four independent mutants revealed that the lesions were in RPS3. Thus, a single gene in Arabidopsis confers resistance that is specific to two distinct pathogen avirulence genes--a gene-for-genes interaction. This observation suggests that the RPS3/RPM1 gene product can bind multiple pathogen ligands, or alternatively, that it does not function as a receptor.

Abstract
Clinicopathological details of 52 cases of total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage (TAPVD) taken from pediatric autopsy files from hospitals in Adelaide (Australia) Oxford and Edinburgh (United Kingdom) between 1957 and 1990 are presented. The patients ranged in age from a stillborn girl to a 15-month-old boy, with 42 cases (81%) dying in the first 3 months of life. While many patients had signs of a congenital cardiovascular anomaly prior to death, including tachypnea, tachycardia, central cyanosis, cardiac failure, heart murmurs, and difficulty in feeding, it was noteworthy that eight patients (16%) presented as sudden and unexpected death in the absence of significant antemortem symptoms and signs. Anomalous pulmonary venous drainage was also unsuspected prior to death in a total of 26 cases (53%) of those where relevant history was available (49 cases). Twelve infants (23%) underwent surgical correction, none of whom survived more than several weeks. TAPVD was isolated in 30 cases (58%) and was associated with other cardiac or congenital anomalies in 22 patients (42%). Just under half of nonisolated cases comprised the asplenia-heterotaxy syndrome. The points of drainage of the anomalous pulmonary veins were to the infradiaphragmatic veins (n = 21, 40%), left innominate vein (n = 13, 25%), coronary sinus (n = 7, 13%), right superior vena cava (n = 4, 8%), inferior vena cava above the diaphragm (n = 2, 4%), right innominate vein (n = 2, 4%), mixed left innominate vein and coronary sinus (n = 1, 2%), azygos vein (n = 1, 2%), and mixed right superior vena cava and left hemiazygos vein (n = 1, 2%). Twenty-three of 47 cases (49%) that were specifically examined revealed obstruction of the pulmonary veins or pulmonary hypertensive vascular changes on histology. These results emphasize that TAPVD needs to be excluded at autopsy as a causal factor in cases of sudden infant death even in the absence of antemortem symptoms and signs. Clues at autopsy include abnormal mobility of the heart, visceral situs inversus, and polyasplenia. The diversity of pulmonary-systemic venous anastomoses necessitates careful in situ dissection above and below the diaphragm and consideration of postmortem angiography.

Abstract
A 13-year-old boy presented with right-sided gynecomastia. Histological examination of the excised specimen revealed distention of ducts by papillary configurations of proliferating epithelium. The boy had no known family history of breast disease and physical examination revealed minor dysmorphic features, but a karyotype was normal. The possible relationship of this lesion to other proliferative lesions described in the pubertal male breast is discussed.

Abstract
Isolated ventricular septal defects in clinically well patients are not generally thought to cause sudden death. We document a case in which heart block, with sudden collapse and death, is related to the presence of fibrous interruption of the conduction system of the heart due to progressive fibrous closure of a small ventricular septal defect.

Abstract
A new disease resistance locus in Arabidopsis, RPS3, was identified using a previously cloned avirulence gene from a non-Arabidopsis pathogen. The avrB avirulence gene from the soybean pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv. glycinea was transferred into a P. syringae pv. tomato strain that is virulent on Arabidopsis, and conversion to avirulence was assayed on Arabidopsis plants. The avrB gene had avirulence activity on most, but not all, Arabidopsis ecotypes. Of 53 ecotypes examined, 45 were resistant to a P. syringae pv. tomato strain carrying avrB, and eight were susceptible. The inheritance of this resistance was examined using crosses between the resistant ecotype Col-0 and the susceptible ecotype Bla-2. In F2 plants from this cross, the ratio of resistant:susceptible plants was approximately 3:1, indicating that resistance to P. syringae expressing avrB is determined by a single dominant locus in ecotype Col-0, which we have designated RPS3. Using RFLP analysis, RPS3 was mapped to chromosome 3, adjacent to markers M583 and G4523, and < or = 1 cM from another disease resistance locus, RPM1. In soybean, resistance to P. syringae strains that carry avrB is controlled by the locus RPG1. Thus, RPG1 and RPS3 both confer avrB-specific disease resistance, suggesting that these genes may be homologs.

Abstract
Epignathi are unusual congenital tumours presenting as oropharyngeal masses, often resulting in rapid asphyxia following birth. Occasionally, intracranial extension of the tumour is present, and two such cases are described. The presence of this complication, diagnosable by ultrasound examination, indicates that aggressive surgical treatment is inappropriate.

Abstract
A female infant with multiple congenital abnormalities and a right atrial "mass" on echocardiography is reported. Her general condition at birth was poor, and the chest x-ray showed cardiomegaly. Echocardiography demonstrated the usual atrial arrangement and concordant atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial connections with a mobile right atrial mass. Death occurred at 3 days of age and subsequent postmortem examination revealed a hollow, tube-like sinus venosus remnant mobile between right atrium and ventricle with numerous other abnormalities of the heart, including left heart hypoplasia and tubular hypoplasia of the aortic arch. Filling of the sinus venosus remnant with blood had resulted in an echocardiographic appearance suggestive of a right atrial tumor.

Abstract
The OEIS complex comprises a combination of defects including omphalocele, exstrophy of the cloaca, imperforate anus, and spinal defects. It may represent the most severe manifestation of a spectrum of birth defects, the exstrophy-epispadias sequence. The OEIS complex affects 1 in 200,000 to 400,000 pregnancies and is of unknown cause. The purpose of the current report is to document the occurrence of OEIS in sibs from separate pregnancies and suggest that some cases may have a genetic basis.

Abstract
Ganglioglioma is a tumour of the central nervous system composed of an admixture of dysplastic nerve cells resembling pleomorphic ganglion cells, and glial elements, which may be astrocytic and/or oligodendroglial in appearance. A series of 12 patients aged between 9 months and 15 years 9 months, all of whom had suffered epilepsy refractory to medical treatment for up to 8 years, is presented. Computed tomographic and magnetic resonance scans were of prime use in localisation of the tumours. Calcification was noted preoperatively in 4 of 12 cases. The majority of patients obtained at least partial relief from symptoms after complete or partial resection. Histologically, 11 of the tumours included grade 1 astrocytic elements and the remaining one exhibited grade 2 areas. The diagnosis of ganglioglioma should be suspected in a child with refractory, long-standing epilepsy. Prognosis of these tumours is determined by the astrocytic component; if this is of low grade, surgical excision may result in marked symptomatic improvement or cure.

Abstract
We report the findings in a fetus terminated because of multiple abnormalities diagnosed on ultrasound, including asymmetry of the limbs, a hypoplastic diaphragm, unilateral duplex kidney with a double ureter, unilateral cystic kidney, and congenital heart disease including total pulmonary atresia. Cytogenetic studies showed an unbalanced translocation of the long arm of the X chromosome to chromosome 21, resulting in a 46,XY,dic t(X;21)(p11.1;p11.1) karyotype. The cytogenetics were confirmed by non-isotopic in situ hybridisation using probes specific to pericentric alphoid repeats. Parental chromosomes were normal indicating this to be a de novo translocation. It is suggested that the inactivation of the long arm of the X chromosome has resulted in an effective monosomy for chromosome 21.

Abstract
To characterize the clinicopathological presentation of patients with myocarditis coming to autopsy in childhood, 32 cases of histologically-proven myocarditis were obtained from the files of the Adelaide Children's Hospital. In 16 of the cases (Group A), myocarditis was the only significant finding and death was ascribed to this condition. In the remaining 16 (Group B) myocarditis was found in association with other severe disease processes. Clinical histories of the 2 groups showed sudden death to be a feature in 5 out of 16 cases in Group A, 3 of whom had no prodromal symptoms. Five patients in Group B also suffered sudden death, but this was associated with a variety of causes, including bronchopneumonia, and asphyxia. These cases demonstrate the variability in clinicopathological presentation of myocarditis in infancy and childhood and suggest that myocarditis should always be considered a possible diagnosis at autopsy in the pediatric age group, even in the presence of coincident lethal disease.

Abstract
Submandibular salivary glands and tracheobronchial glands from postmortem examinations of 89 cases of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and 67 age-matched control cases in which death was not due to SIDS were examined for the presence of intranuclear and intracytoplasmic inclusions characteristic of cytomegalovirus (CMV). Inclusions were identified by light microscopy and confirmed by immunohistochemistry in submandibular glands of 5 of 89 (5.6%) SIDS and 6 of 67 (8.9%) non-SIDS patients. No inclusions were found in tracheobronchial glands. No further cases were detected following immunoperoxidase studies and examination of multiple levels of inflamed submandibular glands. Brain stem glial knots were found in only one case with CMV inclusions, which was a non-SIDS case with death due to congenital immunodeficiency. We have found no difference in the incidence of CMV inclusions in the submandibular gland between SIDS and age-matched non-SIDS infants. No strong association between CMV inclusions in salivary gland and brain stem glial knots was present.

Abstract
Testicular regression syndrome is characterized by a rudimentary epididymis and spermatic cord with absence of testicular tissue. Although it has been well-described in the surgical literature, few pathological studies have been performed. We report 77 cases of the syndrome, deriving from a 26-year retrospective review. Typical gross descriptions described several cm of spermatic cord with a small mass of firm, fibrotic tissue at one end; elements of the vas deferens, spermatic artery and venous plexuses were usually present. Histologically, the distal expansion of most of the specimens was composed of dense fibrovascular tissue with no evidence of seminiferous tubules or normal testicular elements. Instead, scattered foci of calcification and brown pigment were present. The finding of dystrophic calcification and haemosiderin deposition, with no evidence of viable testicular tissue, in the presence of relatively normal spermatic cord elements, supports the concept of generally unilateral and occasionally bilateral anorchia secondary to remote infarction. The young age of the patients, coupled with the history of an absent testis from birth, is supportive of in utero damage. These histopathological findings provide support for the concept of in utero torsion of the testis as the basis for the testicular regression syndrome.

Abstract
Drowning is a relatively common cause of accidental death in children. Autopsy records at the Adelaide Children's Hospital over a 27-year period from 1964 to 1990 were examined, and 58 cases were found where the cause of death was listed as drowning. In six cases, however, careful examination of the history and postmortem findings provided important additional information that suggested a more complex antemortem sequence of events. Specifically, four patients aged between 6 years, 10 months and 11 years were known to have had epilepsy. A further patient, an 8-year-old boy, died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage due to a bleeding cerebral arteriovenous malformation while swimming. The final patient, an 11-year-old boy who collapsed in a public swimming pool, was found at autopsy to have marked hypoplasia of the right coronary artery. In this series, six of 58 (10.3%) of the pediatric cases had additional underlying medical problems that could either have initiated the drowning episode or caused death due to alternate mechanisms. We present the clinicopathological findings in detail to demonstrate that a high index of suspicion must be maintained in all cases of pediatric drowning, not only for unnatural causes of death but also for additional natural disease processes that may have contributed significantly to the fatal episode. These findings may have particular relevance in jurisdictions where full postmortem examination is not always required by law.

Abstract
Congenital coronary artery abnormalities are a rare but well-documented cause of sudden and unexpected death in the pediatric age group. Most reported cases involve both an aberrant origin and course of the abnormal vessel. A case of unexpected death occurring in an otherwise healthy eleven-year-old boy, who had been previously investigated for sudden collapse, is described. The major finding at autopsy was marked disparity in diameter between the coronary arteries due to diffuse hypoplasia of the right coronary artery. This case demonstrates the importance of meticulous examination of the coronary artery system in cases of sudden death in childhood so that significant reduction in luminal cross section will be adequately documented. The possible role played by this finding in the etiology of sudden death is discussed.

Abstract
Cardiac rhabdomyomas are rare lesions forming part of the tuberous sclerosis complex that may be responsible for sudden death. As well as remaining clinically occult for variable periods of time, they may, along with other manifestations of tuberous sclerosis, be quite difficult to detect clinically and pathologically. A patient is described in whom multiple cardiac rhabdomyomas were an incidental finding at autopsy following fatal potassium fluoride poisoning. Other gross pathological lesions typical of tuberous sclerosis were present but were quite subtle in appearance. Awareness of the association of cardiac rhabdomyomas with tuberous sclerosis is important so that full examination of organ systems for characteristic lesions can be undertaken during the autopsy, and so that fresh and frozen tissue can be obtained at the time of dissection for further investigation.

Abstract
A 69-year-old female patient presented with symptoms characteristic of globus pharyngeus and barium swallow examination was normal. Her symptoms persisted and pharyngoscopy was undertaken; a post-cricoid polyp was found and removed. Histological examination revealed this to be a lymphangioma. Histological appearances, pathogenesis and treatment are discussed. The case illustrates that persisting symptoms presenting as globus pharyngeus should be further investigated to exclude rare lesions.

Abstract
Recent reports in the clinical laboratory literature have raised questions about the accuracy of different methods of measuring serum estradiol. To determine whether between-method variability was clinically significant, we used five different commercial radioimmunoassay methods to measure the concentration of estradiol in sera from nine patients undergoing induction of ovulation for gamete intrafallopian transfer. There were large differences between the estradiol concentrations measured in the same samples by the different methods. Furthermore, apparent changes in concentration that would be regarded as clinically significant may reflect nothing more than the imprecision of the assay. Physicians using serum estradiol measurements to support therapeutic decisions should be aware that an excessive reliance on those measurements may be misleading.

Abstract
Ossifying fibromas of the long bones of the leg are benign lesions occurring in the pediatric age group identical in histological appearance to the similarly named tumor of the jaw in adults. Most frequently presentation occurs after minor trauma with symptoms of a swelling of the tibia or fibula which may be painful. Pathological fracture or limp are also occasional presentations. Congenital cases are extremely rare. We describe an otherwise normal male neonate who presented at birth with a bowed right lower leg. The limb was 1 cm shorter than the other side, with tibia vara and a firm mass situated anteriorly. X-ray showed a mixed lytic and sclerotic lesion in the proximal metaphysis of the tibia. Biopsy showed collagenous stroma containing spindle cells and irregular trabeculae of woven bone rimmed by plump osteoblasts. As the appearances were typical of an ossifying fibroma (osteofibrous dysplasia) no surgical treatment was given. The patient was well with no growth of the tumor and with radiological evidence of healing at 1 year follow up. This case is presented to draw attention to the clinicopathological features of this unusual lesion which must be considered in the differential diagnosis of congenital lesions of the tibia.

Abstract
Autoimmune ovarian failure is widely regarded as irreversible, although ovarian biopsy characteristically shows follicles surrounded by lymphocytes. Two previous reports of pregnancy in this condition both followed institution of steroid replacement therapy (Finer et al., 1985; Cowchock et al., 1988). We report a case in which fertility spontaneously returned to normal twelve years after the diagnosis of autoimmune ovarian failure.

Abstract
An acute confusional state was observed to follow heavy exposure to polyurethane gloss paint fumes in a previously healthy 60 year old man. This state remitted over a 3-day period, but was followed by transient bone marrow suppression and evidence of liver cell damage. The corroborated absence of other toxins and the temporal association of exposure to paint fumes suggest that a volatile paint component was responsible. White spirit is the major volatile solvent in polyurethane gloss paint. Ingestion of related aliphatic hydrocarbons has been reported to cause nausea, drowsiness and hepatotoxicity, but these symptoms have not previously been documented following excessive inadvertent inhalation of paint fumes.

Abstract
Human pregnancy-associated alpha 2-glycoprotein (alpha 2-PAG) is a high molecular weight glycoprotein in normal sera. The protein is present in high concentration in the sera of pregnant females and in abnormally low concentration in association with conditions connected with abnormalities of mucosal immunity. Indirect immunoperoxidase techniques using poly- and monoclonal antibodies were employed to identify pregnancy-associated alpha 2-PAG in different tissues. Four monoclonal antibodies were selected from a battery of antibodies with defined specificities in order to ascertain reactivity with various epitopes of the antigen. The antibodies were applied to paraffin sections of breast, colon, salivary gland, and tonsil, and different fixation regimes were used in the preparation of the tissues. The polyclonal antibodies were found to stain plasma cells and epithelial lumina evenly in all the tissues included whereas the monoclonal antibodies were shown to stain certain components selectively. In breast and salivary glands, all four monoclonal antibodies could identify alpha 2-PAG, but in tonsil and colon, only two were reactive. This difference in epitope expression might reflect the internal processing of alpha 2-PAG, and lack of availability of certain epitopes may be indicative of functional blocking of certain domains.

Abstract
A survey of 24 pediatric oncologists from 21 institutions not performing bone marrow transplants found that 156 patients were referred for transplants in the years 1984/85; only 10 of these patients were not transplanted. No patient in good clinical condition whose disease was under control was denied transplantation after evaluation at a transplant center. The decision for transplantation was made by the families and the referring pediatric oncologists, almost always before the patient was seen at a transplant center. The fact that almost all patient and family evaluations at transplant centers take place after a family has decided to have a marrow transplant has obvious implications regarding informed consent. Referring pediatric oncologists must attempt to provide the best possible information to families when decisions regarding marrow transplantation are actually being made.

Abstract
Retinal periphlebitis in multiple sclerosis is of particular interest in relation to our understanding of the pathogenesis of the demyelinating central nervous system plaques. Previous studies have largely been clinical, and there is little detailed histopathological information relating to this condition. We present the first detailed report in the neurological literature on the histological findings in chronic periphlebitis retinae associated with multiple sclerosis. The most significant abnormalities of the affected retinal veins were the presence of thick laminated collagen in the wall, associated with a scanty infiltration of plasma cells.

Abstract
The sog gene of the conjugative plasmid ColIb-P9 specifies two sequence-related polypeptides with the N-terminal third of the larger product having DNA primase activity. To resolve the function of the C-terminal portion of the polypeptides, we constructed a ColIb mutant containing a Tn5 insertion in the 3' region of sog. The mutation truncated sog gene products without inactivating DNA primase and rendered the plasmid defective in conjugation. Tests for the presence of conjugative pili, for complementation by a sog+ recombinant, and for mobilization of small origin of transfer (oriT) recombinant plasmids indicated that the mutant ColIb allows conjugative aggregation of cells but it is defective in DNA transfer at some stage subsequent to its initiation at oriT. Physical evidence is given that normal sog polypeptides are among a group of proteins transferred selectively from the donor to the recipient cell by a conjugation-specific process. No transfer of the mutant sog proteins was detected. It is proposed that the C-terminal region of sog polypeptides facilitates transfer of single-stranded ColIb DNA between conjugating cells following initiation of transfer at the oriT site, and that in this role the proteins are transmitted to the recipient cell.

Abstract
A 57-year-old male caucasian presented with a peripheral neuropathy which had an autonomic component. Clinical examination revealed hepatomegaly and laboratory tests showed derangement of liver function tests and IgG lambda myeloma. Biopsy of the liver was performed. Histological examination revealed AL-type amyloid in the hepatic arteries and a perisinusoidal deposit of diastase resistant, periodic acid-Schiff positive material which did not react in the same way as the arterial deposit, giving no apple green birefringence when stained with Congo red. Immunohistochemistry showed the material to consist of lambda light chains. Electron microscopy confirmed that the material did not have the ultrastructural characteristics of amyloid. A diagnosis of light chain deposit disease concurrent with vascular AL-type amyloid was made.

Abstract
Distribution of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and 6-phospho-gluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) in imaginal discs of Drosophila melanogaster was determined. Differential patterns of staining were found in all discs examined, i.e., eye-antennal, wing, leg, labial and genital. By using null mutants for either G6PD or 6PGD, the enzymes were shown to have the same distribution patterns. Staining with glucose-6-phosphate as a substrate resulted in the detection of both G6PD and 6PGD. Results of staining discs from homoeotic mutants indicate that the enzyme distribution patterns are under genetic control. In the presence of the homoeotic engrailed (en) mutation which transforms posterior wing compartment into anterior, the G6PD pattern of the posterior compartment of the wing disc was specifically transformed toward that of the anterior compartment. The bithorax series of homoeotic mutants was similarly investigated. The bithorax (bx3) mutation transforms the anterior part of the haltere to anterior wing blade. Similarly the G6PD pattern in the anterior haltere disc transforms to that of anterior wing disc. The complimentary transformation, postbithorax (pbx) results in a change of the posterior part of the haltere to posterior wing, which is likewise reflected in an altered staining pattern for G6PD in the posterior portion of the haltere disc. The combination of the bx3 and pbx resulted in a staining pattern of the haltere disc virtually indistinguishable from the normal wing disc.

Abstract
Investigated the relationship between children's level of cognitive development and their production of whole responses (W) on the Rorschach, Both quantitative and qualitative variations in W were examined, and level of cognitive functioning was assessed by Piagetian techniques. The findings indicate that there is a significant and positive relationship between children's stage of cognitive development within the Piagetian framework and the number and complexity of whole responses they produce on the Rorschach. The strength of this relationship appears to be significantly influenced by the stimulus complexity of the inkblots, and the findings suggest that production of highly articulated W on the more complex broken blots requires the abstracting and synthesizing abilities associated with formal operational thought.

Abstract
Using a standardised block technique, the microscopic lactate dehydrogenase-nitro blue tetrazolium (LDH-nitro BT) and conventional haematoxylin and eosin staining methods were used to investigate the presence of myocardial infarction in a series of fifty forensic autopsies. The microscopic LDH-nitro BT method was found to be reliable; however, it did not reveal the presence of myocardial infarction in any of the cases where this had not been suspected.
