Abstract
Krüppel homolog1 (Kr-h1) is a juvenile hormone (JH) response transcriptional factor that transduces JH signalling to repress insect metamorphosis in both hemimetabolous and holometabolous insects. While few studies about microRNAs (miRNAs) downregulating Kr-h1 expression to mediate insect metamorphosis have been demonstrated in hemimetabolous insects, the miRNAs that target the Kr-h1 of holometabolous insects have not been reported. Here, we identified two miR-927 binding sites within the 3'UTR region of Kr-h1 in Drosophila melanogaster, and miR-927 was found to downregulate the expression of Kr-h1. The expression profiles of miR-927 and Kr-h1 displayed relatively opposite pattern during most of the larval development stages. Overexpression of miR-927 in the fat body significantly decreased the expression of Kr-h1 and resulted in reduced oviposition, increased mortality, delayed pupation, and reduced pupal size. Notably, the co-overexpression of Kr-h1 rescued the developmental and growth defects associated with miR-927 overexpression, indicating that Kr-h1 is a biologically relevant target of miR-927. Moreover, the expression of miR-927 was found to be repressed by JH and its receptor Met/gce, forming a positive regulatory loop of JH signalling. Overall, our studies support a conserved role for the JH/miRNA/Kr-h1 regulatory axis in growth control during insect development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prognostic values of the AJCC staging system for gastric cancer (GC-AJCC), the AJCC staging system for gastric neuroendocrine tumours (NET-AJCC) and the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) system for gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma and mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (MA)NEC remain controversial. METHODS Data on patients with (MA)NEC from 21 centres in China were analysed. Different staging systems were evaluated by performing Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and calculating the concordance index (C-index) and Akaike information criterion (AIC). Based on three existing systems, a modified staging system (mTNM) was developed. RESULTS A total of 871 patients were included. In the GC-AJCC system, an overlap was noticed for pT2 and pT3 categories. Patients with stage IIIC disease had a similar prognosis to those with stage IV disease. The pT categories of the NET-AJCC system had a lower C-index and higher AIC than those of the other systems. In the ENETS system, there was a low proportion (0·2 per cent) of patients with stage IIIA and a high proportion (67·6 per cent) of stage IIIB disease. The mTNM system adopted the NET-AJCC pT and GC-AJCC pN and pM definitions, and was developed based on the ENETS stage definitions. The proportion of patients in each stage was better distributed and the mTNM system showed improved prognostic performance in predicting overall and disease-free survival. CONCLUSION The mTNM system offers more accurate prognostic value for gastric (MA)NEC than the AJCC or ENETS staging systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) are considered to be promising biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis prediction of cancers. However, the potential clinical significance of the serum miR-98 in colorectal cancer (CRC) remained unclear. This study aimed to examine the serum miR-98 levels in CRC patients and explore its potential value for CRC. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 115 CRC cases and 50 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. Quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) was performed to detect serum miR-98 expression in all the participants. RESULTS The results revealed that serum miR-98 levels were frequently downregulated in CRC patients compared with controls. In addition, low serum miR-98 levels were closely associated with aggressive clinical features and shorter survival. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis demonstrated that serum miR-98 could well differentiate CRC patients from healthy controls with relatively high accuracy. Multivariate analysis further demonstrated that serum miR-98 was an independent prognostic factor for both overall survival and disease-free survival. Mechanistically, MYC, IL-6, and HIST1H2BH were identified as direct downstream targets of miR-98 in CRC cells. CONCLUSIONS Collectively, serum miR-98 might be useful as an indicator for predicting the clinical outcome of CRC patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Long noncoding RNA (lncRNAs) frequently exhibited abnormal levels in numerous tumors and other diseases in current biological researches. LINC01287, a newly discovered lncRNA, has been found to act as an oncogene in hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this research was to explore the expressions and functions of LINC01287 in breast cancer (BC). PATIENTS AND METHODS The relative expressions of LINC01287 in BC tissues and cells were determined using RT-PCR. The associations between the LINC01287 expression, the clinicopathological factors, and the overall survival of BC patients were statistically examined. The apoptosis and proliferation abilities of MCF-7 and MDA-MB-468 cells were analyzed by MTT and flow cytometry assay after LINC01287 knockdown. The effects of LINC01287 in migration and invasion were determined using wound-healing and transwell assays. The protein expressions of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway were determined using Western blot. RESULTS We showed that the levels of LINC01287 were significantly upregulated in BC tissues and BC cell lines, and the abnormal expressions of LINC01287 were correlated with TNM stage and lymph node metastasis. A distinct difference was observed and indicated that BC patients with higher LINC01287 expressions had significantly shorter overall survival than patients with lower LINC01287 expressions. The multivariate analysis demonstrated that LINC01287 expression was independently correlated with the overall survival. Si-LINC01287 transfection significantly inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of BC cells, and further promoted apoptosis. Besides, the knockdown of LINC01287 suppressed Wnt/β-catenin activation and affected the expressions of β-catenin, cyclin D1, and c-myc. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicated that the new lncRNA LINC01287 was correlated with poor clinical outcome and may function as a novel prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in the development of antineoplastic therapies for BC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous studies have indicated that β2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) genetic polymorphism is related to the risk of asthma, but the results still have some controversy and uncertainty. To this end, the meta-analysis was performed, including all studies that can be used to assess the correlation between ADRB2 polymorphism and asthma susceptibility. MATERIALS AND METHODS The related papers on ADRB2 polymorphisms and asthma were systematically reviewed in databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and WanFang, Odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were measured. The sensitivity analysis and publication bias were evaluated to investigate the correlation. RESULTS This meta-analysis included 57 papers in total involving 11,157 cases and 12,281 controls. Results illustrated that the C79G variant genotypes owned a reduced effect on asthma susceptibility (G vs. C: OR=0.94, p=0.037). In the age stratification analysis, C79G polymorphism owned a reduced effect on asthma risk for children (GG vs. CC: OR=0.69, p=0.002; GG vs. CC+CG: OR=0.65, p<0.001). Furthermore, in the ethnic stratification analysis, the C79G variant genotypes also owned a reduced effect on asthma in Asians (GG vs. CC: OR=0.80, p=0.027; GG vs. CC+CG: OR=0.81, p=0.02). Besides, for A46G polymorphism, the ethnic stratification analysis demonstrated that the A46G variant owned an increased effect on asthma susceptibility among Caucasians (G vs. A: OR=1.15, p=0.043). For C491T polymorphism, a considerable reduced effect was found between C491T and asthma susceptibility for children (CT vs. CC: OR=0.70, p=0.03). In the ethnic stratification analysis, the effect was also considerable in the Caucasian subjects. CONCLUSIONS The present meta-analysis demonstrated that C79G and C491T polymorphism may be a defensive factor for asthma, while A46G polymorphism may be a risk factor for asthma among the Caucasian population.

Abstract
The 2019 Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) broke out in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and spread throughout the world. Early screening and early diagnosis play key roles in prevention and management of the epidemic. Attention should also be paid to the infection of health workers and shortage of medical resources in high-risk areas. Here, we report two cases of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and evaluated by robotic ultrasound based on 5G-powered technology 700 km east of Wuhan. We here show the advantages of this kind of remote ultrasound scan, which could become a method for the diagnosis and assessment of COVID-19.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical and pathological features of pediatric NTRK-rearranged tumors. Methods: Four NTRK-rearranged soft tissue tumors and one renal tumor at Shanghai Children's Medical Center, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Singapore KK Women's and Children's Hospital from January 2017 to September 2019 were identified. Pan-TRK immunohistochemistry, and the ALK and ETV6 gene break-apart fluorescence in situ hybridizations (FISH) were performed. NTRK gene rearrangement was detected using sequencing-based methods. Results: There were 3 males and 2 females in this study. The patients were between 3 months and 13 years of age. Histologically, the tumors were infiltrative spindle cell tumors with variable accompanying inflammatory cells. Immunohistochemistry showed positive reactivity for pan-TRK in all tumors, with nuclear staining for NTRK3 fusion, and cytoplasmic staining for NTRK1 fusion. The molecular testing revealed NTRK gene fusions (one each of TPM3-NTRK1, ETV6-NTRK3 and DCTN1-NTRK1, and two cases of LMNA-NTRK1). Two patients were receiving larotrectinib. The others were are well without disease, with follow-up durations of 9 to 29 months. Conclusions: NTRK-rearranged mesenchymal tumors from soft tissue sites and kidney are identified. A novel DCTN1-NTRK1 fusion is described. Pan-TRK immunohistochemistry is useful for diagnosis. NTRK-targeted therapy may be an option for unresectable, recurrent or metastatic cases.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia and a preliminary study to explore the relationship between different clinical classification and liver damage. Methods: Consecutively confirmed novel coronavirus infection cases admitted to seven designated hospitals during January 23, 2020 to February 8, 2020 were included. Clinical classification (mild, moderate, severe, and critical) was carried out according to the diagnosis and treatment program of novel coronavirus pneumonia (Trial Fifth Edition) issued by the National Health Commission. The research data were analyzed using SPSS19.0 statistical software. Quantitative data were expressed as median (interquartile range), and qualitative data were expressed as frequency and rate. Results: 32 confirmed cases that met the inclusion criteria were included. 28 cases were of mild or moderate type (87.50%), and four cases (12.50%) of severe or critical type. Four cases (12.5%) were combined with one underlying disease (bronchial asthma, coronary heart disease, malignant tumor, chronic kidney disease), and one case (3.13%) was simultaneously combined with high blood pressure and malignant tumor. The results of laboratory examination showed that the alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), albumin (ALB), and total bilirubin (TBil) for entire cohort were 26.98 (16.88 ~ 46.09) U/L and 24.75 (18.71 ~ 31.79) U/L, 39.00 (36.20 ~ 44.20) g/L and 16.40 (11.34 ~ 21.15) μmol/L, respectively. ALT, AST, ALB and TBil of the mild or moderate subgroups were 22.75 (16.31 ~ 37.25) U/L, 23.63 (18.71 ~ 26.50) U/L, 39.70 (36.50 ~ 46.10) g/L, and 15.95 (11.34 ~ 20.83) μmol/L, respectively. ALT, AST, ALB and TBil of the severe or critical subgroups were 60.25 (40.88 ~ 68.90) U/L, 37.00 (20.88 ~ 64.45) U/L, 35.75 (28.68 ~ 42.00) g/L, and 20.50 (11.28 ~ 25.00) μmol/L, respectively. Conclusion: The results of this multicenter retrospective study suggests that novel coronavirus pneumonia combined with liver damage is more likely to be caused by adverse drug reactions and systemic inflammation in severe patients receiving medical treatment. Therefore, liver function monitoring and evaluation should be strengthened during the treatment of such patients.

Abstract
Objective: Based on the data of chronic diseases and nutrition surveillance among Chinese adults in 2015, dyslipidemia and related factors were analyzed. Methods: Multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling was used to select participants who were aged 18 and over, with questionnaire survey and related measurements conducted. Prevalence rates of dyslipidemia among participants by different characteristics and influencing factors were analyzed, using the method of complex weighting and post-weighted stratification. Results: In all, 7 404 participants were included. The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia was 30.5% among the adults. The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia were 36.5% in males and 24.4% in females (P<0.05). The prevalence rates of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, high LDL-C, and low HDL-C were 3.7%, 12.2%, 5.3%, and 19.4%, respectively. Results from the multivariate logistic regression model analysis showed that age (OR=1.009, 95%CI: 1.000-1.018), female (OR=0.501, 95%CI: 0.397-0.632), College degree or above (OR=1.728, 95%CI: 1.257-2.374), alcohol consumption 3 (OR=0.711, 95%CI: 0.536-0.943), central obesity (OR=1.868, 95%CI: 1.547-2.257), BMI (OR=1.141, 95%CI: 1.098-1.186), hypertension (OR=1.259, 95%CI: 1.077-1.473) and diabetes (OR=2.025, 95%CI: 1.446-2.835) were influencing factors on dyslipidemia. Conclusions: The prevalence of dyslipidemia seemed high among adults in Anhui. Risk factors should be closely monitored and under control, including those people with unhealthy lifestyles or being overweight, obesity, hypertensive and diabetic.

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the effects of essential oils and organic acids (EOA) on Salmonella Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) challenged chickens. One-day-old specific pathogen-free (SPF) chicks (250) were randomly assigned to 5 groups, with 50 birds in each group. The treatment groups were as follows: 1) basal diet, negative control group (NC); 2) basal diet + S. Enteritidis, positive control group (PC); 3) PC + 4,000 g/t of enrofloxacin (5%), antibiotic group (ENR); 4) PC + 800 g/t of EOA1, thymol-benzoic acid group (TBA); and 5) PC + 800 g/t of EOA2, cinnamylaldehyde-caproic acid group (CCA). At 7 D of age, each bird, except those in NC, was orally gavaged with 0.4 mL of a suspension of 4.4 × 109 cfu S. Enteritidis/mL. Results revealed that ENR reduced bacterial counts in the liver and spleen on days 3, 5, and 7 post-challenge more (P < 0.05) than any other treatments. However, bacterial counts in cecal contents among ENR, TBA, and CCA were similar at 5 and 7 D post-challenge but lower than those of PC. Additionally, the bacterial counts in liver, spleen, and cecum contents in TBA were lower (P < 0.05) than in PC at 3, 5, and 7 D post-challenge; the bacterial counts in spleen contents in TBA were lower (P < 0.05) than in CCA at 7 D post-challenge. Tumor necrosis factor-α contents in TBA and CCA were lower (P < 0.05) than those in PC. Also, the ratio of villus height to crypt depth in the ileum of CCA was higher (P < 0.05) than that of PC and ENR; however, there was no difference in the secretory IgA content of the jejunum among the groups. In conclusion, EOA had a bacteriostatic effect on S. Enteritidis, and the effect of the thymol-benzoic acid complex surpassed that of the cinnamaldehyde-caproic acid complex. Therefore, EOA may act as an effective antibiotic substitute for animals in the prevention and treatment of Salmonella.

Abstract
This article introduces the Zeffiro interface (ZI) version 2.2 for brain imaging. ZI aims to provide a simple, accessible and multimodal open source platform for finite element method (FEM) based and graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerated forward and inverse computations in the Matlab environment. It allows one to (1) generate a given multi-compartment head model, (2) to evaluate a lead field matrix as well as (3) to invert and analyze a given set of measurements. GPU acceleration is applied in each of the processing stages (1)-(3). In its current configuration, ZI includes forward solvers for electro-/magnetoencephalography (EEG) and linearized electrical impedance tomography (EIT) as well as a set of inverse solvers based on the hierarchical Bayesian model (HBM). We report the results of EEG and EIT inversion tests performed with real and synthetic data, respectively, and demonstrate numerically how the inversion parameters affect the EEG inversion outcome in HBM. The GPU acceleration was found to be essential in the generation of the FE mesh and the LF matrix in order to achieve a reasonable computing time. The code package can be extended in the future based on the directions given in this article.

Abstract
We experimentally investigate characteristics of saturable absorbers (SAs) based on nonlinear Kerr beam cleanup effect (NL-KBC). The SAs are formed by a long graded-index multimode fiber (GRIN MMF) with a short single-mode fiber served as a diaphragm. We studied the evolution of output spectrum and beam profiles from the GRIN MMF in order to investigate the mechanism of these SAs. We further performed saturable absorption measurements to evaluate their modulation depths and saturation intensities. We experimentally observed and first theoretically analyzed the "relaxation oscillation" behavior of the optical transmittance with increasing input intensity. We also studied their nonlinear polarization dynamics and observed the repolarized effect in NL-KBC regime. Our results confirm the optical properties of the SAs based on NL-KBC, and these SAs can find applications in Q-switched and mode-locked lasers.

Abstract
Stain density is an important parameter for optimising the quality of ultrastructural data obtained from several types of 3D electron microscopy techniques, including serial block-face electron microscopy (SBEM), and focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). Here, we show how some straightforward measurements in the TEM can be used to determine the stain density based on a simple expression that we derive. Numbers of stain atoms per unit volume are determined from the measured ratio of the bright-field intensities from regions of the specimen that contain both pure embedding material and the embedded biological structures of interest. The determination only requires knowledge of the section thickness, which can either be estimated from the microtome setting, or from low-dose electron tomography, and the elastic scattering cross section for the heavy atoms used to stain the specimen. The method is tested on specimens of embedded blood platelets, brain tissue and liver tissue.

Abstract
This study sought to investigate Chinese farmers' attitude towards animal welfare by using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). According to the TPB, an individual's intention to behave in a certain way is determined by his/her attitude towards the behaviour (specific attitude —
importance — and general attitudes), the perceived behavioural control (easiness), and the supposed opinion of the people who are important to him/her (subjective norms). A total of 253 questionnaires are used, which included the three main animal productions in chena (swine, poultry
and cattle). Chinese farmers have perceived the improvement of animal welfare as two abstracts: general attitudes (reward-seeking, and empathic farmer); and four specific categories of actions (favourable environment, animal health, humane treatment of animals and farmers' well-being). Our
analysis revealted that general and specific attitudes were the strongest predictors of farmers' intentions to improve animal welfare in the questionnaire study. In fact, Chinese farmers considered it fairly important to improve the animal welfare meaures considered in the survey. In contrast,
the same animal welfare measures were considered difficult to improve by the farmers as indicated by the lack of association between the easiness of improving animal welfare and the intentions. In addition, veterinarians, agricultural advisers, and scientific experts were considered to be
relatively influential subjective norms as regards the activities of the farmers. This is the first study to provide an insight into the underlying meanings and values of Chinese farmers views on improvements to animal welfare.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined the clinicopathological characteristics of 6279 N1 differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients who underwent operations in our center. METHODS This was a retrospective longitudinal analysis. We categorized the DTC on the basis of various lymph node (LN) characteristics. Logistic regression models and multiple linear regression models were used for the correlation analysis. RESULTS A total of 3693 (58.8%) N1a patients and 2586 (41.1%) N1b patients were included. Patients with N1b disease had larger metastatic foci (0.5 vs. 0.15 cm), a greater number of metastatic LNs (5 vs. 2), a greater number of dissected LNs (25 vs. 7), and a smaller lymph node ratio (NR, number of positive LNs / number of sampled LNs) (23.1% vs. 28.6%) than patients in stage N1a. Comparing the clinicopathological features, we found that male, increased tumor size, multifocality, and thyroiditis increased the risk of stage N1b disease (P<0.05). Sex, multifocality, capsular infiltration, and tumor size were associated with the size of the metastatic LNs (P<0.05). Sex, capsular infiltration, and nodular goiter were associated with the NR (P<0.05). Male sex, tumor located in inferior lobe, maximal tumor diameter (MTD) <1cm, and nodular goiter were independent predictors for skip metastases (P<0.05). MTD <1cm, central neck metastasis and advanced age were independent predictors for bilateral lateral neck metastasis (BLNM) (P<0.05). CONCLUSION The LN characteristics of stage N1a and N1b disease were associated with significantly different features, such as sex, tumor size, multifocality, capsular infiltration, and nodular goiter.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of Lactobacillus plantarum (Lp) and Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis (Ba) in co-cultures with Streptococcus thermophilus (St) on changes in the acidification profile, proteolytic activity, peptide production, in vitro antioxidant activity, and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory properties of fermented milks during 21 d of storage at 4°C. The pH values and proteolysis in all batches showed a gradual decrease and increase during storage, respectively. The ACE-inhibitory activity and total antioxidant capacity of all co-fermented milk samples followed a similar pattern, with maximum values on d 6 of storage. The St starter, in conjunction with Ba or Lp or both, enhanced proteolysis, peptide generation, and ACE-inhibitory and antioxidant activity, but decreased pH values compared with St alone. The St-Ba-Lp samples showed higher DPPH• (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, and total antioxidant capacity, but similar superoxide anion scavenging activity compared to St-Ba or St-Lp samples. The St-Ba samples showed higher DPPH• radical scavenging activity but lower hydroxyl radical scavenging activity than St-Lp samples. In the ACE-inhibitory assays, the St-Lp samples exhibited relatively low activity among the co-fermented milks, digested or not. The presence of Ba and Lp in fermentation together did not affect ACE-inhibitory activity in undigested fermented milks compared with the presence of Ba alone, and St-Ba-Lp fermented milks demonstrated an increase in ACE-inhibitory activity after simulated gastrointestinal digestion in storage. Pepsin digestion largely improved ACE-inhibitory activity, except in St-Lp samples, in which the activity was reduced. Further hydrolysis by trypsin reduced final activity in digestion. This study suggests that co-cultured fermentation with probiotics improves in vitro antioxidant and ACE inhibition activity in fermented milks, and this effect is partly due to the higher proteolytic activity of probiotics.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in pseudocondyloma of vulvae (PV) and the causal relationship between high-risk HPV infection and cervical cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS The patients were divided into condyloma acuminatum group, PV groups and PV high-risk HPV infection group according to the clinical data and morphological features. Condyloma acuminatum group and PV group were two control groups. The exfoliated cells were detected and typed by human HPV nucleic acid typing kit. The gene fusion site of HPV and its potential gene integration mechanism were investigated using genome-wide sequencing and high-throughput virus integration screening techniques. The HPV integration frequencies of some key gene integration sites were calculated and some novel genes integration sites were identified. RESULTS The samples from PV high-risk HPV infection group showed both the pathologic manifestations of PV and the koilocytes caused by the virus infection. Suspected HPV virus particles with a density different from chromatin were observed from the samples of PV high-risk HPV infection group under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The intercellular desmosomes were regularly connected, and autophagosomes can also be observed in some cases. HPV genome was not detected in PV groups and PV high-risk HPV infection group due to the low copy number. HPV genome was only detected in condyloma acuminatum group. CONCLUSIONS PV high-risk HPV infection showed both the symptoms of PV and HPV infection with suspected HPV virus particles in cells.

Abstract
Multipartite Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering is an essential resource for secure one-sided device-independent quantum secret sharing. Here, we analyze the EPR steering properties exhibited in three-mode Gaussian states created by four-wave mixing (FWM) in Rubidium atoms combined with a linear beamsplitter and a nonlinear beamsplitter (second FWM), respectively. By quantifying Gaussian steerability based on a measure determined by the covariance matrix of the produced states, we compare the performance of two schemes to achieve one-way, collective, and genuine tripartite steering, as well as the monogamy constraints for distributing steering among three parties. We show that the scheme with nonlinear beamsplitter is feasible to create stronger bipartite steering and genuine tripartite steering and has more flexibility to manipulate the monogamy relation through the cooperation of the two cascaded FWM processes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of mitochondria-mediated fatty acid metabolism in proximal tubule cells in renal interstitial fibrosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Intraperitoneal injection of folate was performed to induce renal interstitial fibrosis in mice. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect the expression of cytochrome c oxidase subunit IV (COX4IL) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1 (PCK1) in samples. Electron microscope was used to detect the activity of mitochondria. Serum creatinine and urea nitrogen were chosen as evaluation criteria for renal function. Western-blotting was used to detect protein expression of cells. Immunohistochemistry was used to test renal structure and deposition of collagen. RESULTS In renal interstitial fibrosis, mitochondria mediated the dysfunction and the promotion of tubulointerstitial fatty acid metabolism. Besides, it could also reduce renal interstitial fibrosis and alleviate the fatty acid metabolism of tubulointerstitial fibrosis. CONCLUSIONS Mitochondrial dysfunction induced fatty acid metabolism is an important factor to promote the progress of renal interstitial fibrosis. Intervention of related targets of fatty acid metabolism is expected to become a new treatment for renal interstitial fibrosis.

Abstract
We describe use of a bidirectional neuromyoelectric prosthetic hand that conveys biomimetic sensory feedback. Electromyographic recordings from residual arm muscles were decoded to provide independent and proportional control of a six-DOF prosthetic hand and wrist-the DEKA LUKE arm. Activation of contact sensors on the prosthesis resulted in intraneural microstimulation of residual sensory nerve fibers through chronically implanted Utah Slanted Electrode Arrays, thereby evoking tactile percepts on the phantom hand. With sensory feedback enabled, the participant exhibited greater precision in grip force and was better able to handle fragile objects. With active exploration, the participant was also able to distinguish between small and large objects and between soft and hard ones. When the sensory feedback was biomimetic-designed to mimic natural sensory signals-the participant was able to identify the objects significantly faster than with the use of traditional encoding algorithms that depended on only the present stimulus intensity. Thus, artificial touch can be sculpted by patterning the sensory feedback, and biologically inspired patterns elicit more interpretable and useful percepts.

Abstract
Background & aims: Biopsy is the gold standard for staging liver fibrosis, but it may be accompanied by complications. As an alternative, non-invasive markers such as transient elastography (for liver fibrosis) and certain combinations of routine blood markers (liver function tests, full blood count) have been developed although their clinical significance remains controversial. Here, we compare the diagnostic values of non-invasive markers for liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B infection. Methods: Transient elastography and routine laboratory tests were performed in 196 patients. Diagnostic performances were compared and were assessed based on the area under the curve (AUC) of a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results: Elevated GGT to platelet ratio (GPR), the fibrosis index FIB-4 [based on age, AST, platelets and ALT], platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and total bilirubin were independent predictors of liver stiffness defined by transient elastography (all P < 0.001). The AUCs of GPR in predicting both advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis were significantly larger than that of FIB-4 (P = 0.037 and P = 0.008, respectively) and AST-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) (P = 0.008 and P = 0.005). FIB-4, APRI and red cell volume distribution width-to-platelet ratio (RPR) had similar diagnostic values in discriminating different levels of liver fibrosis. Conclusions: GPR showed the best diagnostic value and RPR and PLR are easily available and inexpensive markers in evaluating fibrosis and cirrhosis. The diagnostic values of these laboratory markers are useful in diagnosing advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis, and in confirming the different levels of liver fibrosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Early postnatal life is a critical developmental period that affects health of the whole life. Extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR) causes cardiovascular development problems and diseases, including pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). PAH is characterized by proliferation, migration, and anti-apoptosis of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). However, the role of PASMCs in EUGR has not been studied. Thus, we hypothesized that PASMCs dysfunction played a role in EUGR-induced pulmonary hypertension. METHODS AND RESULTS Here we identified that postnatal nutritional restriction-induced EUGR rats exhibited an elevated mean pulmonary arterial pressure and vascular remodeling at 12 weeks old. PASMCs of EUGR rats showed increased cell proliferation and migration features. In EUGR-induced PAH rats, Notch3 signaling was activated. Relative mRNA and protein expression levels of Notch3 intracellular domain (Notch3 ICD), and Notch target gene Hey1 in PASMCs were upregulated. We further demonstrated that pharmacological inhibition of Notch3 activity by using a γ-secretase inhibitor DAPT, which blocked the cleavage of Notch proteins to ICD peptides, could effectively inhibit PASMC proliferation. Specifically knocked down of Notch3 in rat PASMCs by shRNA restored the abnormal PASMC phenotype in vitro. We found that administration of Notch signaling inhibitor DAPT could successfully reduce mean pulmonary arterial pressure in EUGR rats. CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrated that upregulation of Notch3 signaling in PASMCs was crucial for the development of EUGR-induced PAH. Blocking Notch3-Hey1 signaling pathway in PASMCs provides a potential therapeutic target for PAH.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the role of MRI in preoperative assessments of patients with a persistent cloaca and compare magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) versus fluoroscopy contrast study in the accuracy of common canal measurement and classification prediction. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-one patients with a persistent cloaca were diagnosed and treated at Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center between March 2011 and December 2017. The length of the common canal was measured using MRI and fluoroscopy contrast study. Classification results based on measurements were compared with cystoscopy and intraoperative findings. The accuracy in predicting the classification by measuring the common canal length was compared. RESULT Among 31 patients, 24 had MRI, 24 underwent fluoroscopy contrast study, and 25 underwent cystoscopy. In 20 patients, MRI-based categorisations were in accordance with cystoscopy or surgery findings, whereas in four patients there was discordance. In 17 patients, categorisations based on fluoroscopy contrast study were in accordance with cystoscopy or surgery findings, and in seven patients there was discordance; the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). CONCLUSION MRI may accurately demonstrate genitourinary anomalies and the length of the common canal in patients with persistent cloaca. Categorisation based on MRI measurements of the common canal was accordant with the results from cystoscopy and findings from surgery. The use of this method may help surgeons to develop appropriate reconstruction plans before sending their patients to the operating room.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We conducted a meta-analysis on exploring the correlation between I/D polymorphism of ACE and risk of diabetes mellitus-related end-stage renal disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS Researches on the correlation between I/D polymorphism of ACE and the risk of diabetes-related end-stage renal disease were searched in the three online databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library). Citations of related researches were manually examined and enrolled. This study systematically searched relative literature for cohort studies or case-control studies published in the English language until December 1, 2018. Researches containing odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) calculated based on the correlation between I/D polymorphism of ACE and the risk of diabetes-related end-stage renal disease were enrolled. The included data were weighted by an inverse variance and then analyzed by a fixed or random effects model. Researches met the inclusion criteria were extracted for relevant data and subjected to a heterogeneity test. The effect size was calculated by STATA 12.0 software for meta-analysis. RESULTS A total of 15 articles including 1199 cases of diabetes-related end-stage renal disease and 2939 cases of controls were enrolled. I/D polymorphism of ACE remarkably increased the risk of diabetes-related end-stage renal disease. In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, a significant difference in risk of diabetes-related ESRD was only detected in the Asian population with I/D polymorphism of ACE. However, no significant difference in disease risk was found in the Caucasian population. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis suggested that I/D polymorphism of ACE can markedly increase the incidence of diabetes-related end-stage renal disease, especially in Asian populations.

Arginine bioavailability and endothelin-1 system in the regulation of vascular function of umbilical vein endothelial cells from intrauterine growth restricted newborns. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a major risk factor for perinatal morbidity and mortality, leading to long-term adverse cardiovascular outcomes. The present study aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms in IUGR-associated vascular endothelial dysfunction. METHODS AND RESULTS Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were derived from IUGR or normal newborns. We found that the proliferation of IUGR-derived HUVECs was accelerated compared to those from normal subjects. Gene profiles related to vascular function including vasomotion, oxidative stress, and angiogenesis were dysregulated in IUGR-HUVECs. Compared with HUVECs from normal newborns, nitric oxide (NO) production was reduced, with imbalance between endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and arginase-2 (Arg-2) in IUGR. Meanwhile, intracellular asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) level was elevated with diminished dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase 1 (DDAH1) expression in IUGR-HUVECs. Furthermore, endothelin-1 (ET-1) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) expression were increased, and endothelin receptor type-B (ETBR) was reduced in the IUGR group. IUGR-HUVECs exposed to hypoxia increased the ratio of ADMA to l-arginine, HIF-1α and protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) expression compared to controls. CONCLUSIONS The present study demonstrated that the reduction of NO bioavailability and release results from elevated Arg-2, accumulation of intracellular ADMA, and imbalance of ET-1 and ETBR, further leading to IUGR-associated vascular endothelial dysfunction. Our study provides novel evidence on the mechanism underlying fetal programming associated with IUGR, which will serve as potential therapeutic targets in the prevention of adverse cardiovascular consequences in adulthood.
