Experimental Evidence for an Attractive p-ϕ Interaction. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:172301. Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a ϕ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach. In particular, the imaginary part of the scattering length vanishes within uncertainties, indicating that inelastic processes do not play a prominent role for the p-ϕ interaction. These data demonstrate that the interaction is dominated by elastic p-ϕ scattering. Furthermore, an analysis employing phenomenological Gaussian- and Yukawa-type potentials is conducted. Under the assumption of the latter, the N-ϕ coupling constant is found to be g_{N-ϕ}=0.14±0.03(stat)±0.02(syst). This work provides valuable experimental input to accomplish a self-consistent description of the N-ϕ interaction, which is particularly relevant for the more fundamental studies on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear medium.

Wang JX, Somani S, Chen JH, Murray S, Sarkar U. Health Equity in Artificial Intelligence and Primary Care Research: Protocol for a Scoping Review. JMIR Res Protoc 2021; 10:e27799. [PMID: 34533458 PMCID: PMC8486995 DOI: 10.2196/27799] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/07/2021] [Revised: 05/09/2021] [Accepted: 06/16/2021] [Indexed: 11/13/2022] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Though artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to augment the patient-physician relationship in primary care, bias in intelligent health care systems has the potential to differentially impact vulnerable patient populations. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this scoping review is to summarize the extent to which AI systems in primary care examine the inherent bias toward or against vulnerable populations and appraise how these systems have mitigated the impact of such biases during their development. METHODS We will conduct a search update from an existing scoping review to identify studies on AI and primary care in the following databases: Medline-OVID, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Scopus, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, MathSciNet, AAAI, and arXiv. Two screeners will independently review all abstracts, titles, and full-text articles. The team will extract data using a structured data extraction form and synthesize the results in accordance with PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines. RESULTS This review will provide an assessment of the current state of health care equity within AI for primary care. Specifically, we will identify the degree to which vulnerable patients have been included, assess how bias is interpreted and documented, and understand the extent to which harmful biases are addressed. As of October 2020, the scoping review is in the title- and abstract-screening stage. The results are expected to be submitted for publication in fall 2021. CONCLUSIONS AI applications in primary care are becoming an increasingly common tool in health care delivery and in preventative care efforts for underserved populations. This scoping review would potentially show the extent to which studies on AI in primary care employ a health equity lens and take steps to mitigate bias. INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID) PRR1-10.2196/27799.

Multiharmonic Correlations of Different Flow Amplitudes in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=2.76 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:092302. Abstract
The event-by-event correlations between three flow amplitudes are measured for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, using higher-order symmetric cumulants. We find that different three-harmonic correlations develop during the collective evolution of the medium when compared to correlations that exist in the initial state. These new results cannot be interpreted in terms of previous lower-order flow measurements since contributions from two-harmonic correlations are explicitly removed in the new observables. A comparison to Monte Carlo simulations provides new and independent constraints for the initial conditions and system properties of nuclear matter created in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background/Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects on everyday life leading to stress and anxiety, which may be heightened in those undergoing cardiac surgery. Health impacts following a traumatic event may be apparent at one month but can also present after many months. Purpose The aim of the CardiacCovid study was to explore the effect of the pandemic on recovery from cardiac surgery. We report the preliminary results from a single centre study in the UK during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Patients >18 years old undergoing any form of cardiac surgery between 23rd March 2020 (UK lockdown) to 4th July 2020 (lifting of most restrictions) were recruited to this prospective observational study. Those too unwell or unable to give consent/complete study questionnaires were excluded. Participants completed a Quality of Life (QoL) (EQ-5D), impact of event (IES-R), depression (CES-D) and health service use questionnaire at baseline, 1 week after hospital discharge, and 6 weeks after surgery. Questionnaires were completed electronically on the Amplitude platform or via post. Ethics approval (20/YH/0132) was obtained and the study was registered (Clinicaltrials.gov:NCT04366167). Results A total of 395 patients had surgery of which 298 (91.7%) were screened and 203 (68.1%) were enrolled to the study. Participants were mostly male (74.6%), with a mean age of 63 years, undergoing urgent/emergency (57.9%) CABG +/-valve (70.1%). Mean inpatient stay was 8.6 days and in-hospital mortality was 0.5%. No patients had Covid-19. The initial findings suggest a deterioration of QoL at 1 week post discharge with near restoration to baseline level at 6 weeks post-surgery. Mean scores for CES-D and IES-R remained within subclinical levels at all available time points. However, at 6 weeks, a proportion of patients reached levels for depression on the CES-D and had high IES-R scores indicating possible post-traumatic stress. Conclusion We believe that this is the largest/only study exploring the impact of the pandemic on cardiac surgery recovery, including QoL, spanning the immediate recovery phase but will continue until 1 year. The findings so far show that recovery from cardiac surgery during the Covid-19 pandemic is similar to that reported prior to the pandemic (Cromhout et al 2018) and reinforces the need for psychosocial assessments to identify patients who may require additional support during the immediate recovery phase.

Abstract
A measurement of dielectron production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC, is presented in this Letter. The data set was recorded with a reduced magnetic solenoid field. This enables the investigation of a kinematic domain at low dielectron (ee) invariant mass m_{ee} and pair transverse momentum p_{T,ee} that was previously inaccessible at the LHC. The cross section for dielectron production is studied as a function of m_{ee}, p_{T,ee}, and event multiplicity dN_{ch}/dη. The expected dielectron rate from hadron decays, called hadronic cocktail, utilizes a parametrization of the measured η/π^{0} ratio in pp and proton-nucleus collisions, assuming that this ratio shows no strong dependence on collision energy at low transverse momentum. Comparison of the measured dielectron yield to the hadronic cocktail at 0.15<m_{ee}<0.6 GeV/c^{2} and for p_{T,ee}<0.4 GeV/c indicates an enhancement of soft dielectrons, reminiscent of the "anomalous" soft-photon and soft-dilepton excess in hadron-hadron collisions reported by several experiments under different experimental conditions. The enhancement factor over the hadronic cocktail amounts to 1.61±0.13(stat)±0.17(syst,data)±0.34(syst,cocktail) in the ALICE acceptance. Acceptance-corrected excess spectra in m_{ee} and p_{T,ee} are extracted and compared with calculations of dielectron production from hadronic bremsstrahlung and thermal radiation within a hadronic many-body approach.

Abstract
Increased use and improved methodology of carbonate clumped isotope thermometry has greatly enhanced our ability to interrogate a suite of Earth-system processes. However, interlaboratory discrepancies in quantifying carbonate clumped isotope (Δ47) measurements persist, and their specific sources remain unclear. To address interlaboratory differences, we first provide consensus values from the clumped isotope community for four carbonate standards relative to heated and equilibrated gases with 1,819 individual analyses from 10 laboratories. Then we analyzed the four carbonate standards along with three additional standards, spanning a broad range of δ47 and Δ47 values, for a total of 5,329 analyses on 25 individual mass spectrometers from 22 different laboratories. Treating three of the materials as known standards and the other four as unknowns, we find that the use of carbonate reference materials is a robust method for standardization that yields interlaboratory discrepancies entirely consistent with intralaboratory analytical uncertainties. Carbonate reference materials, along with measurement and data processing practices described herein, provide the carbonate clumped isotope community with a robust approach to achieve interlaboratory agreement as we continue to use and improve this powerful geochemical tool. We propose that carbonate clumped isotope data normalized to the carbonate reference materials described in this publication should be reported as Δ47 (I-CDES) values for Intercarb-Carbon Dioxide Equilibrium Scale.

Abstract
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, v_{2}. The v_{2} coefficient of electrons from beauty hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) range 1.3-6 GeV/c in the centrality class 30%-50%. The measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays exploits their larger mean proper decay length cτ≈500 μm compared to that of charm hadrons and most of the other background sources. The v_{2} of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity is found to be positive with a significance of 3.75 σ. The results provide insights into the degree of thermalization of beauty quarks in the medium. A model assuming full thermalization of beauty quarks is strongly disfavored by the measurement at high p_{T}, but is in agreement with the results at low p_{T}. Transport models including substantial interactions of beauty quarks with an expanding strongly interacting medium describe the measurement within uncertainties.

Abstract
Introduction Of those with schizophrenia, one third develop treatment-resistant illness. Nearly 60% of these benefit from clozapine- the only antipsychotic medication licensed in this group. Objectives As treatment-resistant illness developed in the follow-up of a first-episode psychosis (FEP) cohort, clozapine was prescribed. This study retrospectively compared the clozapine prescribing patterns, within this cohort, to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. In addition, impact on hospitalisation, physical health monitoring and augmentation strategies employed following clozapine initiation were examined. Factors delaying initiation of clozapine treatment or contributing to its discontinuation were also explored. Methods The study included 339 individuals resident within an Irish community mental health team catchment area, referred with FEP from 1 January 2005 to 31 August 2016. Data were extracted from electronic medical records. Results Within the cohort, clozapine was prescribed to 32 individuals (9.4%). The mean number of adequate trials of antipsychotic prior to starting clozapine was 2.74 (SD 1.13; range 1–5). The mean time to clozapine trial was 2.1 years (SD 1.95; range 0.17–6.25). Following initiation of clozapine, mean hospital admissions per year fell from 2.3 to 0.3 (p=0.00). Mean inpatient days pre- and post-clozapine also decreased (147 vs. 53; p=0.00). In all, 18 patients ceased use of clozapine, 5 temporarily and 13 permanently. Conclusions Patients are being prescribed clozapine earlier than previously demonstrated. However, delayed treatment remains common, and many patients discontinue clozapine. Further research is necessary to describe and address factors which contribute to its discontinuation. Abstract
Introduction Poor maternal mental health during the perinatal period leads to serious complications, especially in humanitarian settings where both mothers and children have often been exposed to multiple stressful events. In those contexts, culturally relevant mental health and psychosocial interventions are required to support mother-infant dyads and ultimately to alleviate potential negative outcomes on child’s health and development. Objectives This study aims at assessing the use of postnatal services by mothers and infants under 2 and its impact on maternal mental health. Methods A process evaluation of Baby Friendly Spaces (BFS) program was conducted in Nguynyel refugee camp (Ethiopia) and a prospective quantitative assessment was administered to lactating women at baseline and endline (2 months later) to measure maternal functional impairment (WHODAS 2.0), general psychological distress (Kessler scale-K6); depression symptoms (Patient Health Questionnaire-PHQ9) and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD Checklist-PCL-6). Results 201 lactating women and their babies were enrolled between October 2018 and March 2019. Statistically significant reductions were observed in all mental health outcomes at follow-up. Total mean scores decrease by 19% (p<0.001) for general psychological distress and posttraumatic stress, by 23% (p<0.001) for the depression and by 15% (p<0.001) for the functional impairment. Examination of the compliance to the services revealed that mothers who dropped out early had statistically significantly lower depression scores (p=0.01), and functional impairment scores (p<0.001) than mothers who stayed in the program. Conclusions The integration of maternal mental health interventions within perinatal services is challenging but essential for identifying and treating maternal common mental disorders. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Abstract
As part of an insect resistance management plan to preserve Bt transgenic technology, annual monitoring of target pests is mandated to detect susceptibility changes to Bt toxins. Currently Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) monitoring involves investigating unexpected injury in Bt crop fields and collecting larvae from non-Bt host plants for laboratory diet bioassays to determine mortality responses to diagnostic concentrations of Bt toxins. To date, this monitoring approach has not detected any significant change from the known range of baseline susceptibility to Bt toxins, yet practical field-evolved resistance in H. zea populations and numerous occurrences of unexpected injury occur in Bt crops. In this study, we implemented a network of 73 sentinel sweet corn trials, spanning 16 U.S. states and 4 Canadian provinces, for monitoring changes in H. zea susceptibility to Cry and Vip3A toxins by measuring differences in ear damage and larval infestations between isogenic pairs of non-Bt and Bt hybrids over three years. This approach can monitor susceptibility changes and regional differences in other ear-feeding lepidopteran pests. Temporal changes in the field efficacy of each toxin were evidenced by comparing our current results with earlier published studies, including baseline data for each Bt trait when first commercialized. Changes in amount of ear damage showed significant increases in H. zea resistance to Cry toxins and possibly lower susceptibility to Vip3a. Our findings demonstrate that the sentinel plot approach as an in-field screen can effectively monitor phenotypic resistance and document field-evolved resistance in target pest populations, improving resistance monitoring for Bt crops.

Abstract
Background Platinum-based therapy, combined or not with immune checkpoint inhibitors, represents a front-line choice for patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Despite the improved outcomes in the last years for this malignancy, only a sub-group of patients have long-term benefit. Excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (ERCC1) has been considered a potential biomarker to predict the outcome of platinum-based chemotherapy in NSCLC. However, the ERCC1 gene is transcribed in four splice variants where the isoform 202 was described as the only one active and able to complex Xeroderma pigmentosum group F-complementing protein (XPF). Here, we prospectively investigated if the active form of ERCC1, as assessed by the ERCC1/XPF complex (ERCC1/XPF), could predict the sensitivity to platinum compounds. Patients and methods Prospectively enrolled, patients with advanced NSCLC treated with a first-line regimen containing platinum were centrally evaluated for ERCC1/XPF by a proximity ligation assay. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS) and objective response rate (ORR) were analyzed. Results The absence of the ERCC1/XPF in the tumor suggested a trend of worst outcomes in terms of both OS [hazard ratio (HR) 1.41, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.67-2.94, P = 0.373] and PFS (HR 1.61, 95% CI 0.88-3.03, P = 0.123). ORR was marginally influenced in ERCC1/XPF-negative and -positive groups [odds ratio (stable disease + progressive disease versus complete response + partial response) 0.87, 95% CI 0.25-3.07, P = 0.832]. Conclusion The lack of ERCC1/XPF complex in NSCLC tumor cells might delineate a group of patients with poor outcomes when treated with platinum compounds. ERCC1/XPF absence might well identify patients for whom a different therapeutic approach could be necessary. This is the first study investigating the ERCC1/XPF complex as a platinum-based therapy response biomarker in NSCLC. The lack of ERCC1/XPF complex might delineate a group of patients with poor outcomes when treated with platinum compounds. ERCC1/XPF absence might identify tumors for whom a different therapeutic approach than platinum compounds could be necessary.

False Negative Rate (2%) of Lynch Syndrome Screening Utilizing A Two-Antibody (PMS2/MSH6) Immunohistochemistry Panel: Failure To Detect a Subset of MSH2-Deficient Endometrial Carcinomas. Abstract
Abstract
Introduction/Objective
Lynch syndrome (LS) is an inherited condition caused by defective DNA mismatch repair (MMR), leading to a higher incidence of cancers of multiple sites. Screening for LS is now recommended for new diagnoses of endometrial cancer (EC) using either two- (PMS2, MSH6) or four-antibody (2/4Ab) (PMS2, MSH6, MSH2, MLH1) immunohistochemical (IHC) panels. The 2Ab panel assumes consistent loss of expression of the minor dimer component, PMS2 or MSH6, when the major component, MLH1 or MSH2, respectively, is lost due to mutation. Recent studies have indicated that 2Ab testing may lead to underdiagnosis of MSH2-deficient tumors in cases where MSH6 staining is weak or focal, potentially leading to underdiagnosis of LS.
Methods
We conducted a retrospective study using archived slides for 293 cases of EC (identified via LIS search from 2016-2019) that were screened using the 2Ab panel (expanded to 4Ab when PMS2 or MSH6 were negative). MSH6 expression was reviewed; if weak, focal (less than 10% staining), or both, MSH2 IHC was performed. When a previously undetected loss of MSH2 expression was found, the attending clinician was informed such that referral to medical genetics could be arranged.
Results
Results Overall, 68 (23.2%) tumors were MMR deficient, with 54 (18.4%) showing MLH1/PMS2 loss, 7 (2.4%) with MSH2/MSH6 loss, 2 (0.7%) with isolated PMS2 loss, 4 (1.4%) with isolated MSH6 loss, and 6 (2.0%) with isolated MSH2 loss (i.e. intact but weak/focal MSH6, seen in biopsy and hysterectomy specimens). Interestingly, 1 tumor (1.5%) demonstrated loss of MSH6, MLH1 and PMS2. Two tumors (0.7%) with isolated MSH2 loss were previously unrecognized as MMR-deficient and hence at high risk for LS. Both cases were evaluated by PCR for microsatellite instability (MSI) and confirmed to have high-degree MSI.
Conclusion
This study identifies the frequency of mismatch repair deficient endometrial cancers in Atlantic Canada, highlights a potential pitfall of using two-stain IHC screening for Lynch syndrome, and supports emerging recommendations for universal Lynch syndrome screening in EC.

Abstract
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of 0.3≤p<4 GeV/c. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the geant4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through the detector material. The analysis of the raw primary (anti)proton spectra serves as a benchmark for this study, since their hadronic interaction cross sections are well constrained experimentally. The first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions averaged over the ALICE detector material with atomic mass numbers ⟨A⟩=17.4 and 31.8 is obtained. The measured inelastic cross section points to a possible excess with respect to the Glauber model parametrization used in geant4 in the lowest momentum interval of 0.3≤p<0.47 GeV/c up to a factor 2.1. This result is relevant for the understanding of antimatter propagation and the contributions to antinuclei production from cosmic ray interactions within the interstellar medium. In addition, the momentum range covered by this measurement is of particular importance to evaluate signal predictions for indirect dark-matter searches.

Abstract
Background Humour has long been considered an important coping tool for patients with cancer, but published quantitative data about its significance are limited. The purpose of our study was to survey patients with cancer undergoing radiotherapy regarding their opinions about the use of humour in their care. Methods An anonymous 35-item questionnaire evaluating the patient experience, including the value of humour, was developed by an interdisciplinary team of health care providers (hcps) working within the Radiation Medicine program. This anonymous, voluntary, paper-based survey for self-completion required approximately 10 minutes to finish and was administered during the fall of 2018 and the spring of 2019. Results For the 199 patients who completed the survey [108 women, 89 men (2 respondents did not specify)], median age was 68 years. That group represents approximately 30%-35% of the patients on treatment during the study period. Almost all respondents (86%) indicated that, during their visits to the cancer centre, it was "somewhat important" or "very important" for health care providers (hcps) to use appropriate humour, and 61% of respondents indicated using humour "frequently" or "always" when dealing with their individual cancers. Most respondents (79%) said that humour decreased anxiety, and 86% indicated that laughing was considered "somewhat important" or "very important." Approximately 4% of respondents even listed "sense of humour" as being the most important quality that they looked for in their interactions with their hcps. Conclusions Cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy clearly view humour as being important for coping and dealing with their disease, and oncology hcps should routinely consider incorporating the use of appropriate humour into the care that they provide.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION Does an informed group of citizens endorse the clinical use of mitochondrial donation in a country where this is not currently permitted? SUMMARY ANSWER After hearing balanced expert evidence and having opportunity for deliberation, a majority (11/14) of participants in a citizens’ jury believed that children should be able to be born using mitochondrial donation. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Research suggests that patients, oocyte donors and health professionals support mitochondrial donation to prevent transmission of mitochondrial disease. Less is known about public acceptability of this novel reproductive technology, especially from evidence using deliberative methods. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This study comprised a citizens’ jury, an established method for determining the views of a well-informed group of community members. The jury had 14 participants, and ran over one and a half days in 2017. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Jurors were members of the public with no experience of mitochondrial disease. They heard and engaged with relevant evidence and were asked to answer the question: ‘Should Australia allow children to be born following mitochondrial donation?’ MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Eleven jurors decided that Australia should allow children to be born following mitochondrial donation; 7 of whom added conditions such as the need to limit who can access the intervention. Three jurors decided that children should not (or not yet) be born using this intervention. All jurors were particularly interested in the reliability of evidence, licensing/regulatory mechanisms and the rights of children to access information about their oocyte donors. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Jurors’ views were well informed and reflected critical deliberation and discussion, but are not intended to be representative of the whole population. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS When presented with high quality evidence, combined with opportunities to undertake structured deliberation of novel reproductive technologies, members of the public are able to engage in detailed discussions. This is the first study to use an established deliberative method to gauge public views towards mitochondrial donation. STUDY FUNDING/COMPETING INTEREST(S) This study was funded by a University of Sydney Industry and Community Collaboration Seed Award (2017), which was awarded contingent on additional funding from the Mito Foundation. Additional funding was provided by the Mito Foundation. The Foundation was not involved in jury facilitation or deliberation, nor analysis of research data. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER Not applicable.

Probing the Effects of Strong Electromagnetic Fields with Charge-Dependent Directed Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:022301. Abstract
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow (v_{1}) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons for the transverse momentum intervals p_{T}>0.2 GeV/c and 3<p_{T}<6 GeV/c in the 5%-40% and 10%-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron v_{1} has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity η, dΔv_{1}/dη=[1.68±0.49(stat)±0.41(syst)]×10^{-4}. The same measurement for D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} mesons yields a positive value dΔv_{1}/dη=[4.9±1.7(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10^{-1}, which is about 3 orders of magnitude larger than the one of the charged hadrons. These measurements can provide new insights into the effects of the strong electromagnetic field and the initial tilt of matter created in noncentral heavy ion collisions on the dynamics of light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c) quarks. The large difference between the observed Δv_{1} of charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons may reflect different sensitivity of the charm and light quarks to the early time dynamics of a heavy ion collision. These observations challenge some recent theoretical calculations, which predicted a negative and an order of magnitude smaller value of dΔv_{1}/dη for both light flavor and charmed hadrons.

Evidence of Spin-Orbital Angular Momentum Interactions in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:012301. Abstract
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and ϕ) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element ρ_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. ρ_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2 GeV/c) for K^{*0} and ϕ at a level of 3σ and 2σ, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination.

OP0331-HPR BARRIERS TO SHARED DECISION-MAKING WITH WOMEN OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE AFFECTED BY CHRONIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASES. Ann Rheum Dis 2020. [DOI: 10.1136/annrheumdis-2020-eular.449] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/03/2022]
Abstract
Background:Previous research has indicated that women with a chronic inflammatory disease (CID) are likely to discontinue treatment during pregnancy. [1] Reasons for this are complex, including sub-optimal integration of shared decision-making (SDM) into practice. Objectives:The purpose of this study was to assess: 1) physicians’ competencies in risk assessment, treatment and management of women of reproductive age (WoRA) with a CID, and 2) clinical gaps, barriers and challenges to SDM with these patients. Methods:A mixed-methods needs assessment was conducted. [2] Participants included rheumatologists and dermatologists practicing in Germany, United Kingdom, or United States, with at least three years of experience. Exposure to patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis or psoriasis was required. A first phase involved collection and thematic analysis of data from semi-structured interviews to identify main challenge areas. The second phase consisted of online surveys to validate and quantify identified challenges, gaps and barriers. Chi-square and Kruskal Wallis H statistical tests were performed to assess differences by specialty, country and gender. Qualitative and quantitative findings were triangulated with insight from experts in medical education and relevant behavioural and clinical fields. [3] The present summary reports data pertaining to rheumatologists only. Results:A total of 24 interviews and 173 surveys were completed with rheumatologists. Depending on the country and specific item, 22% to 64% reported having sub-optimal knowledge of treatment options, patient education aids, and strategies to assess treatment adherence among WoRA with a CID (see figure 1). In addition, 36% reported having sub-optimal knowledge of methods to achieve SDM. Unplanned pregnancies were reported as a barrier to prescribing biologics to WoRA with a CID. Yet, 61% of rheumatologists reported having sub-optimal skills discussing contraceptive methods with patients. In addition, 41% reported having sub-optimal skills adjusting treatment according to changes in pregnancy status or child-bearing aspirations. Few differences in clinical gaps were observed by gender. Notably, a greater proportion of male rheumatologists reported having sub-optimal skills approaching WoRA in a way that makes them feel comfortable discussing their health concerns, compared to female rheumatologists (52% vs. 30%, p=0.046). This skill gap was identified as a contributing barrier to SDM with these patients. Conclusion:This study identified multiple challenges, gaps and barriers relevant to rheumatologists that prevent optimal SDM, risk assessment, treatment and management of WoRA with CID. Findings may be used to develop medical education and continuous professional development interventions for target learners.References:[1]Tsao NW, Lynd LD, Sadatsafavi M, Hanley G and De Vera MA. Taking guidance from parents involved in a longitudinal birth cohort - the ROLO family advisory committee. RESEARCH INVOLVEMENT AND ENGAGEMENT 2020; 6:16. [PMID: 32368350 PMCID: PMC7189585 DOI: 10.1186/s40900-020-00200-x] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/13/2020] [Accepted: 04/23/2020] [Indexed: 06/11/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND The ROLO Study (Randomised cOntrol trial of a Low glycaemic index diet in pregnancy to prevent macrosomia) was a randomised control trial conducted between 2007 and 2011 to examine if a low glycaemic index (GI) diet could reduce the incidence of macrosomia. The ROLO Family Advisory Committee is a self-selected group of parents who are involved in the longitudinal follow-up of the ROLO Study. The committee was established in 2017 and the goal is to achieve a partnership between ROLO families and researchers, leading to improved research quality, relevance, and outcomes. This research method is termed "Public and patient involvement (PPI)" and describes how researchers collaborate and engage with the public in order to make research more relevant to them. METHODS The ROLO study mothers and children have been prospectively followed-up at multiple time points post-pregnancy. In October 2017, all women were invited to join the ROLO Family Advisory Committee via email or via advertisement on the ROLO Study Facebook page. Fathers and other guardians of the study children were also invited to join. Two annual meetings with the research team and parents were held in 2018 and 2019. The meetings were recorded, transcribed verbatim by researchers, and thematically analysed. RESULTS Parents provided opinions on the areas they felt should be explored within the ROLO study using information that was collected up to the current follow-up point. They also shared views on research interests which were of importance to them. These topics included; child mental health, fussy eating in childhood and healthy eating policies in schools. Mothers were much more concerned about factors which influenced their child's health rather than their own. Incorporating an element of PPI to this study was found to be a positive learning experience for participants and researchers. CONCLUSION The involvement of parents has enriched the research agenda at the UCD Perinatal Research Centre. We will continue to engage with the parents of the ROLO Study and plan to involve the children to explore their opinions at the next opportunity.

Abstract
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K^{+}p⊕K^{-}p[over ¯]) and (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) pairs measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) with a significance of 4.4σ constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the (K[over ¯]^{0}n⊕K^{0}n[over ¯]) isospin breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Jülich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the K[over ¯]N threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Abstract
This article illustrates the use of the alternating treatment design to assess the effectiveness of individualized interventions in low vision rehabilitation. The design was used to determine if enlarging copy with a photocopier and adding contrast would be effective in reducing the amount of time a visually impaired student required to read a map and graph. Two levels of magnification were compared to determine the level of intervention to be provided.
