Abstract
Ba1.09Pb0.91Be2(BO3)2F2 (BPBBF), a previously unreported lead-containing beryllium borate fluoride, has been successfully grown through a high-temperature flux method. Its structure is solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD), and it is optically characterized via infrared, Raman, UV-vis-IR transmission, and polarizing spectra as well. SC-XRD data suggests that it can be indexed by a trigonal unit cell (space group P3m1) with lattice parameters a = 4.7478(6) Å, c = 8.3856(12) Å, Z = 1, and V = 163.70(5) Å. This material could be considered as a derivative of the Sr2Be2B2O7 (SBBO) structural motif. It consists of 2D [Be3B3O6F3]∞ layers in the crystallographic ab plane, with divalent Ba2+ or Pb2+ cations serving as spacers among the adjacent layers. Ba and Pb were found to adopt a disordered arrangement in the trigonal prismatic coordination within the BPBBF structural lattice, which is evidenced by both structural refinements against SC-XRD data and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The UV absorption edge (279.1 nm) and birefringence (Δn = 0.054@ 546.1 nm) of BPBBF are confirmed by UV-vis-IR transmission and polarizing spectra, respectively. The discovery of this previous unreported SBBO-type material, BPBBF, along with other reported analogues such as BaMBe2(BO3)2F2 (M = Ca, Mg, and Cd), provide a prodigious example for tuning the bandgap, birefringence, and short UV absorption edge via simple chemical substitution.

Abstract
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of visual disability, hearing disability and comorbidity of visual and hearing disability among the elderly in China, and explore the related factors of comorbidity of visual and hearing disability in the elderly. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Based on the Second China National Sample Survey on Disability in 2006, the data of the elderly with visual and hearing disability were extracted and combined for descriptive analysis. Meanwhile, multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of comorbidity of visual and hearing disability among the elderly. Results: A total of 250 752 cases were in the final analysis (119 120 males and 131 632 females), and there were 164 003, 74 156 and 12 593 cases with the age of 65-<75, 75-<85 and ≥ 85 years, respectively. The prevalence of visual disability and hearing disability of the elderly in China was 8.10% (95%CI: 8.00%-8.21%), 13.41% (95%CI: 13.29%-13.54%), respectively, while the prevalence of comorbidity of visual and hearing disability was 1.97% (95%CI: 1.92%-2.02%). The severity of disability of the elderly with comorbidity of visual and hearing disability was higher, and the percentage of mild disabilities (18.31%, 966/5 277) was lower than those with visual (53.06%, 11 208/21 123) or hearing disabilities (32.96%, 11 536/34 995). Moreover, 19.40% (1 024/5 277) of visual or hearing disability occurred in the same year. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that education level below primary school (OR=0.65, 95%CI: 0.61-0.70, P<0.001), having a spouse (OR=0.68, 95%CI: 0.64-0.72, P<0.001), living in an urban area (OR=0.77, 95%CI: 0.71-0.82, P<0.001) and having a per capita household income higher than the national average (OR=0.73, 95%CI: 0.68-0.78, P<0.001) were protective factors for comorbidity of visual and hearing disability among the elderly. Conclusions: Visual disability is correlated with hearing disability in the elderly. Attention should be paid to the prevention and control of associated disabilities such as visual and hearing co-disabilities in the elderly population, with emphasis on strengthening publicity and education on prevention and control of visual and hearing disabilities for the elderly who are economically disadvantaged, have no spouse and live in remote areas.

Abstract
Bone defects have caused immense healthcare concerns and economic burdens throughout the world. Traditional autologous allogeneic bone grafts have many drawbacks, so the emergence of bone tissue engineering brings new hope. Bone tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary biomedical engineering method that involves scaffold materials, seed cells, and "growth factors". However, the traditional construction approach is not flexible and is unable to adapt to the specific shape of the defect, causing the cells inside the bone to be unable to receive adequate nourishment. Therefore, a simple but effective solution using the "bottom-up" method is proposed. Microspheres are structures with diameters ranging from 1 to 1000 µm that can be used as supports for cell growth, either in the form of a scaffold or in the form of a drug delivery system. Herein, we address a variety of strategies for the production of microspheres, the classification of raw materials, and drug loading, as well as analyze new strategies for the use of microspheres in bone tissue engineering. We also consider new perspectives and possible directions for future development.

Abstract
Background Melanoma is widely recognized as the most aggressive and fatal type of skin cancer; however, effective prognostic markers are lacking. The sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-type lectin (Siglec) gene family plays an important role in the development of tumors and immune escape, but its prognostic role in melanoma remains unknown. Results Siglec genes have a high mutation frequency, with up to 8% in SIGLEC7. High expression levels of Siglecs in tumor bulk suggests a better prognosis. Siglecs also show a high degree of synergistic expression. Immunohistochemistry was used to analyze the expression of SIGLEC9 in tumor tissue microarray. The expression of SIGLEC9 in tumor tissue without metastasis was higher than that in tumor tissue with metastasis. We used unsupervised clustering to create a high expression of Siglec (HES) cluster and a low expression of Siglec (LES) cluster. The HES cluster correlated with high overall survival and increased expression levels of Siglec genes. The HES cluster also showed significant immune cell infiltration and activation of immune signaling pathways. We used least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis to reduce the dimensionality of Siglec cluster-related genes and constructed a prognostic model composed of SRGN and GBP4, which can risk-stratify patients in both the training and test datasets. Conclusion We conducted a multi-omics analysis of the Siglec family genes in melanoma and found that Siglecs play an important role in the occurrence and development of melanoma. Typing constructed using Siglecs can show risk stratification and derived prognostic models can predict a patient's risk score. In summary, Siglec family genes are potential targets for melanoma treatment as well as prognostic markers that can direct individualized treatments and improve overall survival.

Abstract
Autologous lipotransfer is an essential component of soft tissue reconstruction. However, it is not widely applied or accepted by surgeons due to its unstable survival rate and uncertain efficacy. The cell-assisted fat transfer (CAL) is a promising technique that increases the fat survival rate. However, it is controversial based on various clinical studies. Here, we assessed the fat survival and complication rates of CAL, compared to the conventional autologous lipotransfer. To conduct our research, two reviewers independently screened related articles published in Medicine (via PubMed), EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. The combined effect estimates for efficacy evaluation was performed by the Review Manager software (RevMan 5.4.1). In total, 14 articles were included in our analysis (n = 722). Based on our analysis, the survival rate of the fat graft in CAL was significantly higher than the conventional fat grafting group (non-CAL group) (SMD = 2.81, 95%CI [1.54, 4.08], P < 0.01). In the subgroup, the fat retention of CAL in the facial filling was higher than the conventional one (SMD = 3.01, 95%CI [1.68, 4.33], P < 0.01). After breast augmentation, however, the difference between the experimental and control group was not statistically significant (SMD = 1.80, 95%CI [-0.31, 3.91], P = 0.09). Moreover, the CAL group exhibited comparable complications as the non-CAL group. Based on our analysis, the CAL group was significantly better than the conventional lipotransfer in terms of fat survival, particularly, during facial filling. However, it failed to reduce the complication rate, compared to the non-CAL group.

Abstract
Bone has a robust regenerative potential, but its capacity to repair critical-sized bone defects is limited. In recent years, stem cells have attracted significant interest for their potential in tissue engineering. Applying mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for enhancing bone regeneration is a promising therapeutic strategy. However, maintaining optimal cell efficacy or viability of MSCs is limited by several factors. Epigenetic modification can cause changes in gene expression levels without changing its sequence, mainly including nucleic acids methylation, histone modification, and non-coding RNAs. This modification is believed to be one of the determinants of MSCs fate and differentiation. Understanding the epigenetic modification of MSCs can improve the activity and function of stem cells. This review summarizes recent advances in the epigenetic mechanisms of MSCs differentiation into osteoblast lineages. We expound that epigenetic modification of MSCs can be harnessed to treat bone defects and promote bone regeneration, providing potential therapeutic targets for bone-related diseases.

Abstract
Flexible mechanical sensors (e.g., strain, pressure, and force) fabricated primarily by printing technologies have emerged and evolved promptly in the past several years. 2D and 3D printing approaches enabled rapid prototyping of various flexible mechanical sensors that have demonstrated their unique applications in fields including robotics, human-machine interfaces, and biomedicine. Research efforts have primarily been focused on experimenting with different materials, device configurations, and sensing mechanisms to achieve better sensing performance. While great progress has been made, this field is still in its infancy where most research is exploratory; and even the performance standards and long-term objective/vision of these sensors are not clear. In this review, the state-of-the-art of three types of printed flexible mechanical sensors will be discussed and analyzed in terms of their fabrication methods, types of sensing materials and mechanisms, and challenges for future development.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction/Objective
ALECT-2 amyloidosis is a rare type of amyloidosis that mostly involves kidneys with other organs rarely affected. It has a high prevalence among patients of Hispanic descent. Membranous nephropathy is one of the most common causes of proteinuria in adults. IgG4-related disease is a systemic disease, which commonly involves the pancreas, but occasionally affects the kidney and manifests as chronic renal insufficiency. Here we describe a very unusual case of concurrence of membranous nephropathy, IgG4 disease involving the kidney, ALECT2 amyloidosis, and early diabetic kidney injury.
Methods/Case Report
A 49-year-old Hispanic male patient with a history of diabetes and IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis presented with abrupt onset of proteinuria and hypoalbuminemia. A kidney biopsy was performed and showed severe interstitial plasma cell-rich inflammatory infiltrates and interstitial fibrosis which had a storiform pattern. The glomerular basement membranes (GBM) showed focal pinpoint holes but no spikes by silver stain. Immunofluorescence microscopy (IF) showed diffuse and finely granular capillary loop staining for IgG, with Kappa and lambda light chains of equal intensity. IF for Anti-phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) was negative. Immunohistochemical (IHC) stain showed IgG4 positivity in about 60% of IgG-positive plasma cells. Congo red was positive for birefringent deposits predominantly in the interstitium and arteriolar walls with focal deposits in the glomerular mesangium and capillary wall. IHC stain for Amyloid AA and DNAJB9 were negative. Electron microscopy showed scattered subepithelial immune complex-type electron dense deposits consistent with membranous nephropathy, randomly oriented fibrils in interstitium, mesangium and GBM, consistent with amyloidosis, and thickening of GBM (average 559 nm), consistent with early diabetic kidney change. The tissue was sent for mass spectrometry which showed a peptide profile consistent with ALECT-2 (Leukocyte chemotactic factor 2) type amyloidosis.
Results (if a Case Study enter NA)
NA
Conclusion
In up to a third of cases reported in the literature, a concomitant renal pathology was present. Diabetic nephropathy was the most common concurrent pathology, to be followed by IgA nephropathy and membranous nephropathy. However, the concurrence of membranous nephropathy, IgG4 disease involving the kidney, ALECT2 amyloidosis, and early diabetic kidney injury has never been described before.

Abstract
Background Nutrition and health knowledge play a crucial role in promoting healthy dietary behaviors, and have been found to be related to sociodemographic characteristics. However, the existing evidence is limited and inconsistent. We aimed to evaluate the awareness level of nutrition and health knowledge and its influencing factors among Wuhan residents, and to provide scientific basis for carrying out targeted nutrition education programmes. Methods By stratified random sampling, residents aged 18-64 in Wuhan were selected for self-administered questionnaire survey. We adopted the structured questionnaire to investigate respondents' sociodemographic characteristics, nutrition and health knowledge, and the way to acquire knowledge. Among them, nutrition and health knowledge includes the following four parts: dietary guidelines recommendations, food and nutrients, nutrition and disease prevention, and nutrition skills. Chi-square tests were used to analyze the associations between total awareness rate and sociodemographic characteristics. Multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the influencing factors of nutrition and health awareness. Results A total of 33,436 valid questionnaires were obtained, with a response rate of 97.8%. The total awareness rate was 20.4%, with the highest in nutrition and disease prevention (72.7%) and the lowest in nutrition skills (46.3%). Responders aged 35-44 (23.3%), females (22.8%), educational workers (24.8%), obtaining a master's degree or above (34.1%), living in downtown area (23.1%), and without a history of chronic disease (24.6%) were more likely to have higher awareness rates (all p < 0.001). The multiple linear regression models showed that age, gender, education level, occupation, residential address, and the history of chronic disease were the potential factors affecting individual nutrition awareness. Conclusion The total awareness rate of nutrition and health knowledge among Wuhan residents was not optimistic. Besides, our findings suggested that sociodemographic characteristics are closely related to nutrition awareness, which may provide important clues for carried out nutrition education campaigns.

Abstract
We developed an accelerated Genetic Algorithm (GA) system based on the cooperation of a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and the optimized parameters that enables fast light focusing through scattering media. Starting at the searching space, which influences the convergence of the optimization algorithms, we manipulated the mutation rate that defines the number of mutated pixels on the spatial light modulator to accelerate the GA process. We found that the enhanced decay ratio of the mutation rate leads to a much faster convergence of the GA. A convergence-efficiency function was defined to gauge the tradeoff between the processing time and the enhancement of the focal spot. This function allowed us to adopt the shorter iteration number of the GA that still achieves applicable light focusing. Furthermore, the accelerated GA configuration was programmed in FPGA to boost processing speed at the hardware level. It shows the ability to focus light through scattering media within a few seconds, 150 times faster than the PC-based GA. The processing cycle could be further promoted to a millisecond-level with the advanced FPGA processor chips. This study makes the evolution-based optimization approach adaptable in dynamic scattering media, showing the capability to tackle wavefront shaping in biological material.

Abstract
For micron-sized nickel-based hydroxides sheets, the reaction and migration of anions/water molecules in the inner region tends to lag behind those along the edge, which can cause structure mismatch and capacity degradation during cycles. Nanosizing and structure design is a feasible solution to shorten the ion/electron path and improve the reaction homogeneity. Herein, this study reports a novel three-stage strategy (self-assembly of NiMn-LDH/ppy-C - reduction to NiMn/ppy-C - in situ phase transformation into NiMn/NiMn-LDH/ppy-C) to reduce the sheet size of NiMn-LDH to nanometer. Triggered by electrochemical activation, NiMn-LDH nanosheets can hereby easily and orderly grow on the exposed active (111) crystal plane of Ni to establish NiMn-LDH/NiMn heterostructure around ppy-C. Importantly, nanosizing and hierarchical structure play a synergistic role to maintain structural integrity and to promote the electron/mass transfer kinetics. The NiMn/NiMn-LDH/ppy-C composite delivers superior cycling stability with almost no decay of capacity retention after 40,000 cycles at 5 A g-1. Our hierarchical morphology modulation provides an ingenious, efficient way to boost the performance of Ni-based layered hydroxide materials.

Abstract
In recent years, the rate of implant failure has been increasing. Microbial infection was the primary cause, and the main stages included bacterial adhesion, biofilm formation, and severe inhibition of implant osseointegration. Various biomaterials and their preparation methods have emerged to produce specific implants with antimicrobial or bactericidal properties to reduce implant infection caused by bacterial adhesion and effectively promote bone and implant integration. In this study, we reviewed the research progress of bone integration promotion and antibacterial action of superhydrophilic surfaces based on titanium alloys. First, the adverse reactions caused by bacterial adhesion to the implant surface, including infection and bone integration deficiency, are briefly introduced. Several commonly used antibacterial methods of titanium alloys are introduced. Secondly, we discuss the antibacterial properties of superhydrophilic surfaces based on ultraviolet photo-functionalization and plasma treatment, in contrast to the antibacterial principle of superhydrophobic surface morphology. Thirdly, the osteogenic effects of superhydrophilic surfaces are described, according to the processes of osseointegration: osteogenic immunity, angiogenesis, and osteogenic related cells. Finally, we discuss the challenges and prospects for the development of this superhydrophilic surface in clinical applications, as well as the prominent strategies and directions for future research.

Abstract
Background: Inducing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) osteogenesis may be beneficial in a number of clinical applications. The aim of this study is to identify key novel biomarkers of this process and to analyze the possible regulatory effects on inflammation and immunity. Results: Seven datasets (GSE159137, GSE159138, GSE114117, GSE88865, GSE153829, GSE63754, GSE73087) were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and were assigned to either the training or the validation dataset. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression model was applied to the training data to select biomarkers of osteogenesis, which were then confirmed using the validation dataset. FK506 binding protein 5 (FKBP5), insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP2), prostaglandin E receptor 2 (PTGER2), SAM domain and HD domain-containing protein 1 (SAMHD1), and transmembrane tetratricopeptide 1 (TMTC1) were highlighted as potential biomarkers. In addition, the differential expressions of immunity and inflammation-related genes were examined and their correlations with the five identified biomarkers were analyzed. The results from performing RT-qPCR and Western blots confirmed that the levels of each of these biomarkers were all significantly increased following osteogenic differentiation of MSCs. Conclusions: Our results identify five biomarkers related to MSCs osteogenesis and allow us to identify their potential roles in immunoregulation and inflammation. Each biomarker was verified by in vitro experiments.
