Abstract
A classical leg flexion conditioning paradigm was used to elicit specific motor responses, as well as nonspecific responses requiring less involvement of the motor system, in cats. Stimulating and lesioning the nucleus accumbens differentially affected these two types of responses. The specific conditioned responses, leg flexion and vocalization, were suppressed by stimulation and enhanced by lesions of the nucleus accumbens. The nonspecific responses, changes in respiration rate and amplitude, and in heart rate, were affected inconsistently or not at all. This suggests a role for the nucleus accumbens in the inhibition of motor components of learned emotional responses, and is consistent with hypotheses holding that the nucleus accumbens gates the access of the limbic system to motor systems.

Abstract
Acrylic spacers and cubes of cortical bone of known dimensions were placed in predetermined locations in cadaver hip joints, which were then studied with plain radiography and linear, hypocycloidal, and computed tomography (CT). Joint space widening was not measurable on plain radiographs of the pelvis when 2-mm spacers were placed anywhere within the hip joint. When 4-mm spacers were used, widening measured 2 mm in the axis of measurement corresponding to the location of the spacer. Linear tomography did not permit identification of the 2-mm cubes; however, hypocycloidal tomography and CT consistently showed them anywhere within the hip joint. Radiation dose and clinical recommendations are discussed.

Abstract
Nine patients, 4--60 years old, had single or multiple left ventricular outpouchings, best seen during diastole, and believed to represent congenital diverticula. The 14 diverticula, 5--28 mm long, were either along the diaphragmatic or anterior ventricular wall. Only one patient had his diverticulum surgically removed; the wall was lined by thick endocardium surrounded by normal myocardium. The lesions did not produce local or systemic complications. All patients had normal chest radiographs. The material suggests that left ventricular diverticula not associated with midline anomalies are perhaps not very rare and should be distinguished from cardiac aneurysm.

Abstract
Studies were made of the computed tomography (CT) scanning process at three hospitals. The data collected, while of interest to hospital administrators and radiologists, are particularly significant in view of the current structure of health planning guuielines. The data show clearly that the utilization potential of a particular CT scanner is a function of patient demand, scan time, the ratio of head to body procedures, and medical practice insofar as contrast medium administration is concerned. This paper summarizes the results of the hospital studies and documents the implications of the data for health planning guidelines.

Abstract
The 115-gigahertz microwave line of carbon monoxide has been detected in the spectrum of Mars. The measurement is sensitive to carbon monoxide between the surface and an altitude of approximately 50 kilometers in the martian atmosphere. This extends the altitude region to well above that previously sensed.

Abstract
A relatively new form of treatment of laryngotracheobronchitis, administration of racemic epinephrine by intermittent positive-pressure breathing, was begun in 1973 in the pediatric unit of a large community hospital. A review of 2 years' experience with this treatment, compared with the experience of the 3 years prior to its introduction, has shown that it has reduced significantly the necessity for tracheostomy, to nearly zero, and the duration of hospital stay. A total of 119 children (33.15% of those admitted) received this treatment, the average number of treatments required being 1.8. There were no important complications of treatment and no deaths.

Abstract
Ground-based observation of atmospheric absorption of solar radiation at a wavelength of 2.6 millimeters has provided the first measurement of mesospheric carbon monoxide. The measurement agrees with photochemical predictions of a carbon monoxide source in the lower thermosphere due to dissociation of carbon dioxide by solar radiation, and has implications for the magnitude of vertical transport in the mesosphere.

Abstract
The 115-gigahertz microwave line of carbon monoxide has been detected in the spectrum of Venus. The measurement proves that the carbon monoxide mixing ratio increases above an altitude of 85 kilometers in the Venus stratosphere and provides quantitative information on carbon monoxide in the altitude region from 80 to 110 kilometers. This altitude region is well above that which has been previously sensed.

Abstract
Left ventriculography was performed with and without angiotensin-II in dogs with normal coronary arteries. Concomitant administration of angiotensin significantly attenuated the myocardial depression associated with ventriculography. The beneficial effect of angiotensin may be due to its ability to maintain aortic diastolic pressure and thus flush the contrast material from the myocardium more rapidly, at least in animals without imposed coronary stenosis.

Abstract
One hundred patients with suspected coronary heart disease were studied by vectorcardiography (VCG), electrocardiography (ECG), and coronary arteriography. Twenty-eight patients had VCG evidence of anterior infarction; 26 of this group had severe narrowing or obstruction of the left anterior descending branch. Five did not have anterior infarction by ECG. Twenty-seven patients had VCG evidence of diaphragmatic infarction; 25 of this group had severe narrowing of the right coronary artery or the left circumflex branch or both. Six of the 27 did not have ECG evidence of diaphragmatic infarction. Twelve patients had VCG evidence of posterior infarction whereas it was detected by ECG in only two. Only six of the 12, however, had severe narrowing of the nutrient arteries to the posterobasal part of the myocardium. Thirteen patients with infarction had severe narrowing but not total obstruction of a coronary artery. On the other hand, 15 patients had total obstruction of a major coronary vessel without actual infarction.

Abstract
A 2 × 2 design was utilized to assess inspection times of complexity-simplicity patterns exposed randomly at 2 frequency levels and preceded by 2 conditions of information deprivation. Effects from information deprivation did not persevere but inspection times were significantly longer for complexity-simplicity patterns exposed infrequently out of a total of 80 presentations.

Abstract
Observations of the 3.4-millimeter radio emission from Mercury during 1965 and 1966 yielded the following relationship between average brightness temperature T(B) of the disk and the planetocentric phase angle i: T(B) = 277 (+/- 12) + 97 (+/- 17) cos [i + 29 deg (+/- 10 deg)] degrees K The errors are statistical standard; the phase shift corresponds to a phase lag-that is, the maximum and minimum of insolation lag the maximum and minimum of planetary radiation.
