Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the effects of residual superdoses of phytase on growth performance, tibia mineralization, and relative organ weight in ducks fed phosphorus-deficient diets. In Exp. 1, 4 kinds of commercial phytase were used to determine retention rate of phyatse with the phytase C being the highest via both high water-bath temperature (90%) and pelleting (50%), followed by phytase A, B, and D. In Exp. 2, a total of 560 male ducks were blocked based on body weight, and then allocated randomly to 7 treatments (5 replicates with 16 birds per replicate). Treatments included a maize-soybean meal-based diet with recommended calcium and 4.0 g non-phytate phosphorus (nPP)/kg starter diet or 3.8 g nPP/kg grower diet (positive control; PC), an nPP-deficient diet with 1.3 g nPP/kg starter diet or 1.1 g nPP/kg grower diet (negative control; NC), NC diets with increasing levels of residual phytase C (500, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, and 4,000 units/kg feed) after pelleting. Birds fed NC diets had lower (P < 0.05) average daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) throughout the experiment compared with those fed PC diet. Supplementing NC diet with increasing residual superdoses of phytase improved (P < 0.05) ADG and ADFI quadratically in the entire experiment, while reduced feed-to-gain ratio (P < 0.05) quadratically during day 0 to 14. On day 14 and 35, birds fed NC diet had lower (P < 0.05) tibia length, weight, ash, calcium, phosphorus, and manganese contents than those fed PC diet. Increasing residual superdoses of phytase in NC diet increased (P < 0.05) tibia weight and ash, calcium, phosphorus contents quadratically on day 14 and 35. NC treatment increased (P < 0.05) the duodenum, jejunum, ileum, and cecum index compared with other treatments on day 14 and 35. Taken together, feeding increasing residual superdoses of phytase could counteract or exceed the negative effects of NC diet on growth performance, tibia mineralization, and relative organ weight in ducks.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the feasibility of assessing complications registration through medical information. Methods: A descriptive case series study was performed to retrospectively collect medical information and complication registration information of gastric cancer patients at Department of Gastrointestinal Cancer Center Ward I, Peking University Cancer Hospital from November 1, 2016 to March 1, 2017 (the first period), and from November 1, 2018 to March 1, 2019 (the second period). Case inclusion criteria: (1) adenocarcinoma confirmed by gastroscopy and biopsy; (2) patients undergoing open surgery or laparoscopic radical gastrectomy; (3) complete postoperative medical information and complication information. Patients who were directly transferred to ICU after surgery and underwent emergency surgery were excluded. Because difference of the complication registration procedure at our department existed before and after 2018, so the above two periods were selected to be used for analysis on enrolled patients. The prescription information during hospitalization, including nursing, medication, laboratory examination, transference, surgical advice, etc. were compared with the current Standard Operating Procedure (SOP, including preoperative routine examinations, inspection, perioperative preventive antibiotic use, postoperative observational tests, inspection, routine nutritional support, prophylactic anticoagulation, and prophylactic inhibition of pancreatic enzymes, etc.) for gastric cancer at our department. Medical order beyond SOP was defined as medical order variation. Postoperative complication was diagnosed using the Clavien-Dindo classification criteria, which was divided into I, II, IIIa, IIIb, IVa, IVb, and V. Medical order variation and complication registration information were compared between the two periods, including consistence between medical order variation and complication registration, missing report, underestimation or overestimation of medical order variation, and registration rate of medical order variation [registration rate = (total number of patients-number of missing report patients)/total number of patients], severe complications (Clavien-Dindo classification ≥ III), medical order variation deviating from SOP and the corresponding inferred grading of complication. The data was organized using Microsoft Office Excel 2010. Results: A total of 177 gastric cancer patients were included in the analysis. The first period group and the second period group comprised 89 and 88 cases, respectively. The registrated complication rate was 23.6% (21/89) and 36.4% (32/88), and the incidence of severe complication was 2.2% (2/89) and 4.5% (4/88) in the first and the second period, respectively. The complication rate inferred from medical order variation was 74.2% (66/89) and 78.4% (69/88), and the incidence of severe complication was 7.9% (7/89) and 4.5% (4/88) in the first and second period, respectively. In the first and second period, the proportions of medical order variation in accordance with registered complication were 36.0% and 45.5% respectively; the proportion of underestimation, overestimation and missing report were 5.6% and 4.5%, 4.5% and 4.5%, 53.9% and 45.5%, respectively; the registration rate of medical order variation was 46.1% and 54.5%; the number of case with grade I complications inferred from medical order variation was 34 (38.2%) and 25 (28.4%), respectively; and the number of grade II was 12 (13.5%) and 15 cases (17.0%), respectively. The reason of the missing report of medical order variation corresponding to grade I complication was mainly the single use of analgesic drugs outside SOP, accounting for 76.5% (26/34) and 64.0% (16/25) in the first and second period respectively, and that corresponding to grade II complication was mainly the use of non-prophylactic antibiotics, accounting for 9/12 cases and 5/15 cases, respectively. Conclusions: Medical information can evaluate the morbidity of complication feasibly and effectively. Attention should be paid to routine registration to avoid specific missing report.

Abstract
Objective: Using data of health information system (HIS) of medical institutions to study the incidence and hospitalization of herpes zoster in three districts of Beijing. Methods: According to the different level of economic development and geographical features in Beijing, 3 districts of Xicheng, Changping and Miyun were chosen and all 110 medical institutions of the first level and above in the 3 districts are included in the survey. All the outpatient and inpatient herpes zoster cases in 2015 were retrospectively reviewed by HIS system. After distinguishing the reduplicated cases, Using the first outpatient case as a molecule and the resident population as denominator to estimate the annual incidence rate, as well as the annual hospitalization rate was estimated based on primary diagnostic hospitalized cases as molecule and the resident population as denominator. Results: A total of 32 313 primary visit outpatient cases were investigated, of which 18 360 cases (56.8%) were women and 20 923 cases (64.8%) were ≥50 years old. The overall estimated incidence of the 3 districts was 8.8‰ with an increase trends with age and reached to the highest in ≥80 years old (30.5/1 000). The incidence of Xicheng, Changping and Miyun districts are respectively 16.2‰, 4.0‰ and 5.7‰. A total of 701 primary visit inpatient cases were identified, of which 366 cases (52.2%) were women and 651 cases (92.9%) were ≥50 years old. The estimated annual hospitalization rate was 19.4/100 000, with the primary and secondary diagnostic hospitalization rate are respectively 5.9/100 000 (212 cases) and 13.5/100 000 (489 cases). The disease types of secondary diagnostic inpatient herpes zoster cases were as follows: cardiovascular disease (19.0%, 93 cases), stroke (14.5%, 71 cases), pneumonia/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (14.1%, 69 cases), tumor (12.5%, 61 cases) and diabetes (5.7%, 28 cases). Conclusion: Most of the herpes zoster cases in Beijing are over 50 years old, and the incidence of female is slightly higher than male. This disease should become a public health issue of great concern.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical, pathological and CT features associated with the effective mutation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in multiple primary lung cancers (MPLCs) , and to determine the target population of EGFR mutations tests. Methods: A total of 558 nodules from 232 patients with MPLCs who underwent surgery in the Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from August 2017 to December 2017 were selected. Two hundreds and sixteen nodules were detected by DNA direct sequencing. Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare the clinical, pathological and CT features of 216 nodules in the EGFR effective mutation group and the non-effective mutation group. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the independent risk factors of EGFR mutation. The cut off value was determined using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve. Of 232 cases 558 nodules of surgically resected MPLCs, EGFR mutation of 216 nodules was determined by direct DNA sequencing. Results: There were 58 males and 174 females with MPLCs(male︰female=1︰3). There were 117 cases of age ≥59 years old and 115 cases of age <59 years old. There were 192 non-smokers, accounting for 82.8% of all patients. There were 2-7 nodules in the patient's lungs, of which 170 patients had two nodules in the lungs, 44 patients had 3 nodules, and another patient had 7 nodules. Among them, 216 nodules were detected by EGFR gene, 136 were effective mutations, and 80 were non-effective mutations (including wild type and null mutation). EGFR effective mutation group and non-effective mutation group were statistically significant in lung adenocarcinoma patients with different gender, age, smoking history, histological type, and differentiation degree (P=0.006, 0.002, 0.002, 0.015, 0.025).Among them, the effective mutation group were 107 females, 85 cases≥ 59 years old, 117 cases with no smoking history, 68 acinar-based, 89 moderate differentiation. In the count data, 127 nodule edges were lobed, and only 9 nodule edges were smooth. Among the measurement data, the GGO CT value was approximately (-459±147) HU in the EGFR mutation group, with statistical difference (P=0.037). The GGO diameter was approximately (11±9)mm,P=0.279.Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that GGO diameter (OR=0.873, 95%CI: 0.780-0.997; P=0.018) and smooth margins (OR=0.183,95%CI: 0.041-0.824; P=0.027) were independent protective factors of effective mutations of EGFR. Conclusions: In MPLCs, effective EGFR mutation is more common, and associated with elder female, age≥59 years, non-smoking, GGO attenuation <-548 HU, moderately differentiated, predominant invasive papillary adenocarcinoma. Patients with MPLCs and these risk factors may be encouraged to have postoperative EGFR molecular test.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinicopathological features of conjunctival actinic keratosis (AK) and relation to the infection of human papillomavirus (HPV). Method: Retrospective case series study. Eighteen cases (18 eyes) of conjunctival AK were obtained in Tianjin Eye Hospital and Institute (2005-2018). The clinical and histopathological features were studied. HPV was detected by a modified general primer HPV polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system in all formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens. Results: The male to female ratio was 5∶1. The mean age at diagnosis was 60 years (range: 43-79 years). Sixteen cases were located in the nasal interpalpebral region, and two cases were located in the temporal interpalpebral region. All cases were located in corneal limbus, and the mean distance of corneal invasion was 2 mm (range, 1-4 mm). The mean diameter was 4.6 mm (range, 2.0-8.0 mm). Clinically, most lesions (16 cases) appeared as a white or milky, flat plaque with clear borderline and conjunctival hyperemia; a few lesions (2 cases) showed a brown-black mass, partially white. Pathologically, conjunctival AK was a proliferation of epithelium with prominent parakeratosis or hyperkeratosis, stratum spinosm thickening and basal cell proliferation. Many AKs show solar elastosis and a mild inflammatory infiltrate of lymphocytes and plasma cells in the stroma. Most lesions (15 cases) were hypertrophic type, two cases were pigmented type, and one case was acantholytic type. HPV was negative in 18 cases. All case were removed by complete surgical excision. The rage of follow-up period was 1.0-10.4 years, ten cases were recorded, and no case recurred after surgical excision. Conclusions: Conjunctival AK is epithelial precancerous lesion that occurs in the keratoconjunctival margin. HPV infection might not be a causative factor in conjunctival AK. Abstract
Objective: To analyze the risk factors of cervical anastomotic leakage after thoracoscopic-lapacoscopic esophagectomy. Methods: 530 patients with esophageal cancer underwent thoracoscopic-lapacoscopic esophagectomy at the Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from Jan 2011 to Dec 2015. The demographic, surgical and clinical data of patients were retrospectively analyzed. Multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate risk factors of cervical anastomotic leakage in these patients. Results: A total of 530 patients undergoing thoracoscopic-lapacoscopic esophagectomy were enrolled in this study. There were 421 males and 109 females. The mean age was (59.40±8.08) years old, and 91 patients with cervical anastomotic leakage. Sigle factor analysis revealed that the risk grading by American Society of Aneshesiologists, previous history of chest surgery, respiratory comorbidity, diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide of the lung, operation time, anastomosis, average days of postoperative hospitalization, death within 30 days after surgery, respiratory complications, pleural effusion or empyema, and poor healing of the incision were statistically associated with cervical anastomotic leakage (all P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that previous history of chest surgery, hepatic insufficiency, manual anastomosis, prolonged postoperative hospitalization, and poor healing of the incision were independent risk factors for cervical anastomotic leakage after thoracoscopic-lapacoscopic esophagectomy (all P<0.05). Conclusions: Previous history of chest surgery, hepatic insufficiency, poor healing of the incision, manual anastomosis and prolonged postoperative hospitalization were significantly associated with cervical anastomotic leakage after thoracoscopic-lapacoscopic esophagectomy. It's important to strengthen perioperative nursing and surgical techniques to prevent anastomotic leakage after thoracoscopic-lapacoscopic esophagectomy.

Abstract
Vascular remodeling is a pathological process following cardiovascular intervention. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) play a critical role in the vascular remodeling. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) are a class of gene regulators functioning through various mechanisms in physiological and pathological conditions. By using cultured VSMC and rat carotid artery balloon injury model, we found that lncRNA growth arrest specific 5 (GAS5) serves as a negative regulator for VSMC survival in vascular remodeling. By manipulating GAS5 expression via adenoviral overexpression or short hairpin RNA knockdown, we found that GAS5 suppresses VSMC proliferation while promoting cell cycle arrest and inducing cell apoptosis. Mechanistically, GAS5 directly binds to p53 and p300, stabilizes p53-p300 interaction, and thus regulates VSMC cell survival via induction of p53-downstream target genes. Importantly, local delivery of GAS5 via adenoviral vector suppresses balloon injury-induced neointima formation along with an increased expression of p53 and apoptosis in neointimal SMCs. Our study demonstrated for the first time that GAS5 negatively impacts VSMC survival via activation the p53 pathway during vascular remodeling.

Abstract
Optical chaos communication has advantages of high speed and long transmission distance. Unfortunately, the key space of the traditional transceiver, i.e. semiconductor laser with mirror feedback, is limited due to the time delay signature. In this paper, we propose and numerically demonstrate a key space enhancement by using semiconductor laser with optical feedback from a chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG). The chirped FBG feedback can make feedback delay a key parameter by eliminating the time delay signature. Moreover, the grating dispersion and center frequency can also be used as new keys. As a result, the dimension of key space is increased. By taking a bidirectional communication scheme as an example, numerical results show that the key space is raised by 244 times as against mirror feedback with a data rate of 2.5 Gb/s and a coupling strength of 0.447. As the coupling strength decreases, the key space increases due to the fact that chaos synchronization becomes more sensitive to parameter mismatch.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of combination of CT multiplane 3D reconstruction (CT-3DR), radial endobronchial ultrasound (R-EBUS), and rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) for peripheral solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN). Methods: A total of 176 patients with peripheral solitary pulmonary nodule were included from the Nanjing Chest Hospital from March 2016 to March 2017. According to different methods, all the patients were divided into four groups: EG (i.e. R-EBUS+Guiding sheath (GS))group, CTE (i.e. CT-3DR+R-EBUS) group, RE (i.e. ROSE+R-EBUS) group, and triad (i.e. CT-3DR+ROSE+R-EBUS) group. Sampling was performed by transbronchial lung biopsy. The diagnostic yield and complications, procedure time and influencing factors in these four groups were retrospectively analyzed. The value of ROSE and combination of CT-3DR+ROSE+R-EBUS in diagnosis for SPN also was evaluated. Results: The diagnostic yield for total SPNs among four groups were 70.5% in EG group, 70.0% in CTE group, 69.0% in RE group and 74.0% in triad group, respectively. There was no significant difference among four groups (all P>0.05). The procedure time of EG group, CTE group, RE group and triad group were (34.0±6.3), (26.6±6.8), (27.2±7.8) and (19.4±5.4) min, respectively. The procedure time was the shortest in triad group compared with the other three groups (all P<0.001) and the time of CTE and RE groups were significantly shorter than the EG group (both P<0.001). The coincidence rates of CT-3DR navigation position with target bronchus were 87.5% in CTE group and 90.0% in triad group with no significant difference between these two groups (P>0.05). The diagnostic yield was higher for SPNs with their major diameter ≥2 cm than those with their major diameter<2 cm in all four groups (all P<0.05). The positive diagnostic yield was higher with ultrasonic probe located within SPN lesion than the probe adjacent to or deviated the lesion in all four groups (all P<0.05). In EG and RE groups, for those SPNs with the distance between the lesion and pleura≥2 cm, the diagnostic yield were higher than those withe the distance<2 cm (P<0.05) but no similar phenomenon was observed in CTE and triad groups. No significant correlation was detected between the diagnostic yield and the density of SPN lesions among four groups (all P>0.05). ROSE was used in RE and triad groups. The coincidence rate of ROSE with histopathology was 82.6% and the value of Kappa was 0.608. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of ROSE were 0.818, 0.846, 0.931 and 0.647, respectively. Conclusions: CT-3DR navigation and ROSE help to improve the diagnostic efficiency of R-EBUS for SPN. Combination of CT-3DR, R-EBUS and ROSE is of diagnostic value for peripheral SPN and with significant shortening of procedure time.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at 3.0T in differential diagnosis of the origin of adenocarcinoma at the junction of the lower uterine segment and endocervix. Methods: 71 patients with adenocarcinoma at the junction of the lower uterine segment and endocervix were retrospectively collected. Pelvic MR examinations, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) sequences, were performed within 2 weeks before surgery. MR images were analyzed and measured by two radiologists, including the location of the tumor center, the enhancement pattern, the anterior and posterior diameters, the left and right diameters, the upper and lower diameters, and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the tumor. Immunohistochemical method was used as gold standard in distinguishing cervical adenocarcinoma and uterine adenocarcinoma. Results: The upper and lower diameters of uterine adenocarcinoma were [(5.80±2.31) cm], significantly larger than those of cervical adenocarcinoma [(4.16±2.17) cm, P=0.009]. Using 4.5cm as the best cutoff point value, the sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing uterine adenocarcinoma and cervical adenocarcinoma were 68.4% and 65.4%, respectively. According to the location of tumor center, the sensitivity and specificity were 84.2% and 73.1%, respectively. Using tumor enhancement pattern as the criterion, the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosing uterine adenocarcinoma and cervical adenocarcinoma were 68.4% and 80.8% respectively. Conclusions: MRI has certain clinical value in evaluating the origin of adenocarcinoma at the junction of the lower uterine segment and endocervix. The lesions can be diagnosed according to the main location, the characteristics of dynamic enhancement and the growth pattern of the tumor.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of α7nAChR mediated cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway on inhibition of atrial fibrillation by low-level vagus nerve stimulation(LL-VNS). Methods: Eighteen beagles were randomized into control group (n=6), LL-VNS group (n=6) and methyllycaconitine (MLA) + LL-VNS group (n=6). All the beagles were subjected to rapid atrial pacing at 800 beats/min for 6 hours. And the effective refractory period (ERP) of atriums and pulmonary veins and induced atrial fibrillation (AF) were measured hourly during non-pacing.After cessation of pacing for 3 hours, the beagles in control group were injected with saline into four ganglionated plexis (GPs), the beagles in LL-VNS group were given LL-VNS and saline injected into four GPs, and the beagles in MLA+ LL-VNS group were injected with MLA into four GPs combined with LL-VNS.And the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and acetylcholine (ACh) in the plasma at baseline condition, 3 h and 6 h were measured. At the end of this experiment, atrial tissues were collected to examine the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, ACh, NF-κBp65 and STAT3 proteins. Results: During the right atrium pacing for the first 3 hours, the ERPs were gradually decreased while AF inducibility were gradually increased in all groups. At the end of this experiment, compared with the control group and MLA+ LL-VNS group, the ERPs in LL-VNS group were increased, and the induced times and duration of AF were significantly decreased. The levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in plasma were all significantly decreased in LL-VNS group and MLA+ LL-VNS group when compared with the control group(pg/ml) [IL-6: (101±6) vs (119±7), P<0.05; (102±5) vs (119±7), P<0.05; TNF-α: (17.8±1.7) vs (22.1±2.0), P<0.05; (17.9±2.2) vs (22.1±2.0), P<0.05]. And the levels of ACh were higher than in the control group(μg/ml)[(151±13) vs (123±10), P<0.05; (145±5) vs (123±10), P<0.05]. After cessation of pacing for 6 hours, compared with the control groupand MLA+ LL-VNS group, the tissue levels of TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly decreased in LL-VNS group (P<0.05). The concentrations of NF-κBp65 proteins in atrial tissues were lower in the LL-VNS group (P<0.05), and the levels of STAT3 proteins in those tissues were higher in the LL-VNS group than in thein the two other groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: LL-VNS could inhibit the atrial electrical remodeling and atrial fibrillation induction; cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway mediated by α7nAChR may be the important mechanism in vagal nerve regulated AF.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the application value of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in detecting early-stage diabetic nephropathy and to assess the damage of ralated renal function. Methods: A total of 52 patients with type 2 diabetes diagnosed in Zhongda Hospital were collected from April 2016 to May 2017 and were assigned to DM group (diabetes without nephropathy, n=32) and DN group (diabetes with nephropathy, n=20) according to detection of microalbuminuria, a cohort of healthy recipients were included as control group (n=27) in the meantime. All of the subjects underwent IVIM and DTI examination. The cortical and medullary parameters[IVIM: perfusion fraction f, tissue diffusivity D, pseudodiffuvisity D(*;) DTI: fractional anisotropy FA, apparent diffusion coefficient ADC, principal diffusivities (λ1, λ2, λ3)]were obtained respectively and were compared among groups. The relationship between MRI related parameters and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were statistically investigated; and diagnostic performance of IVIM and DTI in discriminating DM and DN group was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Results: The cortical and medullary f, D values in DN group were lower than those in DM group and control group (F=17.32, 15.69, 6.71, 10.94, all P<0.05). D values of all subjects showed positive correlations with eGFR (cortex r=0.518, medulla r=0.538, both P<0.05). The diagnostic efficiency of cortical f values to discriminate diabetes and diabetic nephropathy was 0.817, the cut-off value was 0.205. The medullary FA value in DM group was lower than that in control group ((0.371±0.051 vs 0.423±0.043, t=4.188, P<0.05); and the medullary FA value in DN group (0.315±0.062) was lower than that in control and DM group (F=25.08, P<0.05). The medullary λ3 values in DM group and DN group were all significantly higher than that in control group (F=7.86, P<0.05). The diagnostic efficiency of medullary FA values to discriminate diabetes and diabetic nephropathy was 0.763, the cut-off value was 0.344. Conclusion: IVIM and DTI can reflect the abnormal perfusion and diffusion during early-stage diabetic nephropathy and have the potential value to assess the damage of ralated renal function.

Abstract
To investigate the expression of microRNA-34a (miR-34a) in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in Xinjiang Uygur and Han nationalities and its prognostic significance. Our data showed that miR-34a expression in Uygur and Han CLL patients was significantly higher than that in their respective healthy controls, while miR-34a levels were similar between Uygur and Han patients. By comparing with known prognostic factors, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves showed that miR-34a was a good predictive factor for the prognosis of CLL (demarcation value was 3.567 6). Survival analysis was further performed according to miR-34a expression level, that low expression of miR-34a translated into poor prognosis.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the surgical results and clinicopathological features of gastric cancer patients with liver metastases. Methods: The clinicopathological data and post-operative survival of 37 patients who underwent resection of liver metastasis from gastric cancer at our department from Dec. 2007 to Dec. 2014 were analyzed. Results: The 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival rates after resection were 91.4%, 57.9%, and 22.0%, respectively, with a median survival of 37 months. Univariate analysis revealed that lymph node metastasis, multiple hepatic metastases and no preoperative chemotherapy are unfavorable prognostic factors for overall survival. Multivariate analysis identified that lymph node metastasis and number of liver metastasis are independent prognostic factors. Conclusions: Gastric cancer patients with a solitary liver metastasis may be good candidates for gastric D2 resection combined with liver R0 resection.

Abstract
Paclitaxel is used for the treatment of several types of cancers. However, one of its significant limiting complications is painful peripheral neuropathy during therapy. Gender is considered to play a role in modifying pain intensity. The present study examined the effects of female sex hormones on paclitaxel-induced neuropathic pain and the engagement of inflammatory signal of sensory nerves. Ovariectomies were performed on rats and subsequent hormone replacement with the combination of 17β-estradiol and progesterone was given. ELISA was used to determine the levels of proinflammatory cytokines (PICs) such as IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) of rats with different conditions of female sex hormones; moreover, Western blot analysis was used to examine expression of PIC receptors. The results of our study demonstrated that the increases of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α; and expression of their respective receptors induced by paclitaxel were less in the DRG of ovariectomized rats with lack of female sex hormones. Thresholds of pain responses to mechanical and thermal stimuli appeared to be greater in ovariectomized rats with lack of female sex hormones. Overall, the findings indicate that circulating 17β-estradiol and progesterone contribute to the modulation of neuropathic pain response after administration of paclitaxel, likely via PIC signal in the sensory nerves, which is implicated to consider sex difference for pain management with application of chemotherapeutic paclitaxel.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the factors associated with illicit drug use (IDU) intention in secondary vocational school students based on theory of triadic influence (TTI), and provide theoretical foundation for IDU prevention education. Methods: A total of 8 870 students were selected from secondary vocational schools in 5 cities in China through multistage cluster sampling. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the information about students' sensation seeking (SS), parental monitoring (PM), perceived availability of drug (PAD), social benefit expectancies(SBE), refusal efficacy (RE) and social norms and IDU intention. Based on the TTI, the logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors associated with IDU. Results: Among the intrapersonal stream of influence, the higher levels of SS was the risk factor associated with IDU (OR=1.71, 95%CI: 1.22-2.41, P<0.01), medium RE level (OR=0.18, 95%CI: 0.14-0.23, P<0.001) and high RE level (OR=0.17, 95%CI: 0.13-0.22, P<0.001) were the protective factors for IDU intention. Among the interpersonal stream of influence, medium PM level (OR=0.46, 95%CI: 0.37- 0.56, P<0.001) and high PM level (OR=0.33, 95%CI: 0.24-0.46, P<0.001) were the protective factors for IDU intention, perceived others' drug use as well as perceived others' approval of substance use were risk factors for IDU intentions (P<0.001); Among sociocultural environmental stream of influence, perceived easy availability of drugs (OR=3.47, 95%CI: 2.69-4.48, P<0.001) and perceived SBE of drugs (OR=2.04, 95%CI: 1.69-2.46, P<0.001) were risk factors for IDU intentions (P<0.001). Conclusions: High levels of SS and SBE, perceived easier availability of substance, perceived others' substance use and perceived others' approval of substance use positively predict the students' intention of IDU. IDU prevention education for adolescents should be focused on the above factors, and parental supervision and students' refuse skills should be improved.

Abstract
Smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation is an important process during vascular development and involved in vascular remodeling of a number of cardiovascular diseases including atherosclerosis, hypertension, and restenosis after angioplasty. However, the underlying mechanisms are not completely understood. In the present study, we identified dedicator of cytokinesis 2 (DOCK2) as one of the factors mediating the SMC proliferation. Knockout of DOCK2 (DOCK2-/-) caused abnormal blood vessel development in yolk sac and hemorrhage in mouse embryos. In addition, dorsal aorta wall structure was disrupted in DOCK2-/- embryos, and the SMC numbers in the dorsal aorta were decreased by 49% compared with wild type (WT). Consistently, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA)-positive cells in DOCK2-/- dorsal aorta media were much less the WT. These data suggest that the abnormal vascular development in DOCK2-/- embryos was due to the defective SMC proliferation. In vitro, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB and serum upregulated DOCK2 along with PCNA expression in SMCs. Knockout or knockdown of DOCK2 by its shRNA inhibited the PDGF-BB-induced PCNA expression while forced expression of DOCK2 induced PCNA expression in SMCs. 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) assay showed that knockdown of DOCK2 blocked PDGF-BB-induced SMC proliferation. Mechanistically, DOCK2 induced SMC proliferation by activating p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). Overexpression of DOCK2 induced while knockdown of DOCK2 inhibited p38 phosphorylation. Blockade of p38 MAPK signaling by its pathway-specific inhibitor diminished DOCK2-induced SMC proliferation. In a rat carotid artery balloon-injury model, knockdown of DOCK2 by adenoviral delivery of its shRNA blocked the injury-induced neointima formation and attenuated the PCNA expression. Furthermore, deletion of DOCK2 blocked ligation-induced neointima formation and PCNA expression in mouse arteries. Taken together, our studies demonstrated that DOCK2 is an important factor regulating SMC proliferation during embryo development as well as vascular remodeling in pathological conditions.

Abstract
Autoimmune hepatitis (AH) is usually manifested as chronic hepatitis in clinics; it may evolve to liver cirrhosis, hepatic failure, and even death if treatment is delayed. To investigate the clinical efficacy of glucocorticoids in combination with ursodesoxycholic acid in the treatment of glucocorticoids in combination with ursodesoxycholic acid, one hundred and twenty patients with AH who were admitted to the hospital from February 2014 and February 2016 were selected and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group using random number table. Patients in the control group were treated by glucocorticoids only, while patients in the observation group were treated by ursodesoxycholic acid and glucocorticoids. Patients in both groups were treated for six months. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was evaluated after treatment. The levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), direct bilirubin (DBIL) and total bilirubin (TBIL) of the two groups both decreased after treatment (P less than 0.05), the improvement of the level of liver function of the observation group was superior to that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P less than 0.05); after treatment, the levels of serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulin m (IgM) of both groups significantly reduced after treatment, and the difference within groups before and after treatment had no statistical significance (P less than 0.05). The reduction of the immunological indicators of the observation group was more remarkable after treatment, and the difference between the two groups had statistical significance (P>0.05). The complete remission rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group; the incidence of adverse reactions was lower than that of the control group, and the difference had statistical significance (P less than 0.05). Thus it can be concluded that glucocorticoids in combination with ursodesoxycholic acid has favorable efficacy in treating AH as it can promote the improvement of liver function and effectively reduce the dose of glucocorticoids and the incidence of adverse reactions. The therapy is of great clinical values.

Abstract
The cardiovascular system develops during the early stages of embryogenesis, and differentiation of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) is essential for that process. SMC differentiation is critically regulated by transforming growth factor (TGF)-β/SMAD family member 3 (SMAD3) signaling, but other regulators may also play a role. For example, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate various cellular activities and events, such as proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. However, whether long noncoding RNAs also regulate SMC differentiation remains largely unknown. Here, using the murine cell line C3H10T1/2, we found that brain cytoplasmic RNA 1 (BC1) is an important regulator of SMC differentiation. BC1 overexpression suppressed, whereas BC1 knockdown promoted, TGF-β-induced SMC differentiation, as indicated by altered cell morphology and expression of multiple SMC markers, including smooth muscle α-actin (αSMA), calponin, and smooth muscle 22α (SM22α). BC1 appeared to block SMAD3 activity and inhibit SMC marker gene transcription. Mechanistically, BC1 bound to SMAD3 via RNA SMAD-binding elements (rSBEs) and thus impeded TGF-β-induced SMAD3 translocation to the nucleus. This prevented SMAD3 from binding to SBEs in SMC marker gene promoters, an essential event in SMC marker transcription. In vivo, BC1 overexpression in mouse embryos impaired vascular SMC differentiation, leading to structural defects in the artery wall, such as random breaks in the elastic lamina, abnormal collagen deposition on SM fibers, and disorganized extracellular matrix proteins in the media of the neonatal aorta. Our results suggest that BC1 is a suppressor of SMC differentiation during vascular development.

Abstract
Objective: This study evaluated the atypical computed tomography (CT) manifestations of thoracic sarcoidosis. Methods: Medical data of 190 patients with thoracic sarcoidosis were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The atypical CT manifestations of thoracic sarcoidosis observed were unilateral hilar lymphadenopathy with or without mediastinal lymphadenopathy(n=12, 6.3%), mediastinal lymphadenopathy without hilar lymphadenopathy(n=9, 4.7%), patchy consolidation (n=23, 12.1%), sarcoid galaxy sign (n=22, 11.6%), reversed halo sign (n=1, 0.5%), and ground-glass opacities (n=52, 27.4%). Air trapping was found in 8 of 10 patients who underwent both inspiratory and expiratory CT. Post-treatment CT scans showed improvements in most patients. Of the 12 patients with unilateral hilar lymphadenopathy with or without mediastinal lymphadenopathy, 10(83.3%) improved. Of the 9 patients with mediastinal lymphadenopathy without hilar lymphadenopathy, 8(88.9%) improved. Of the 23 patients with patchy consolidation, 15(65.2%) improved. Of the 22 patients with the sarcoid galaxy sign, 16(72.7%) improved. The patient with the reversed halo sign improved completely. Of the 52 patients with ground-glass opacities, 31(59.6%) improved. Of the 8 patients with air trapping, 7(87.5%) improved. Conclusions: The atypical imaging manifestations of thoracic sarcoidosis included unilateral hilar lymphadenopathy with or without mediastinal lymphadenopathy, mediastinal lymphadenopathy without hilar lymphadenopathy, patchy consolidation, the sarcoid galaxy sign, the reversed halo sign, ground-glass opacity, and air trapping. These lesions mostly improved after treatment. Familiarity with these atypical signs will help increase the diagnostic accuracy of imaging studies for thoracic sarcoidosis.

Abstract
Perovskite solar cells have drawn much attention and achieved efficiencies over 22%, but relatively little is known about the long-term stability under photovoltaic operation. So far, stability studies have reported about the importance of degradation of each layer, but little to no consideration has been given to the whole device architecture. We investigated the stability of perovskite solar cells in order to fundamentally understand the mechanism behind efficiency improvement/degradation during device operation. We found that during operation the interfaces of the perovskite and the electron-transport layer (ETL), meso-porous TiO2, further intermix with each other, which leads to improved power conversion efficiency (PCE) during the initial operation of these solar cells. The operation-induced structural changes are examined directly by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with in situ low-energy Ar+ sputtering and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) with C60 sputtering. In addition, this study describes that the primary cause of irreversible degradation during operation is due to the expansion of TiO2 and ion migration throughout the perovskite solar cell.

Abstract
Smooth muscle cell (SMC) differentiation is essential for vascular development, and TGF-β signaling plays a critical role in this process. Although long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate various cellular events, their functions in SMC differentiation remain largely unknown. Here, we demonstrate that the lncRNA growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5) suppresses TGF-β/Smad3 signaling in smooth muscle cell differentiation of mesenchymal progenitor cells. We found that forced expression of GAS5 blocked, but knockdown of GAS5 increased, the expression of SMC contractile proteins. Mechanistically, GAS5 competitively bound Smad3 protein via multiple RNA Smad-binding elements (rSBEs), which prevented Smad3 from binding to SBE DNA in TGF-β-responsive SMC gene promoters, resulting in suppression of SMC marker gene transcription and, consequently, in inhibition of TGF-β/Smad3-mediated SMC differentiation. Importantly, other lncRNAs or artificially synthesized RNA molecules that contained rSBEs also effectively inhibited TGF-β/Smad3 signaling, suggesting that lncRNA-rSBE may be a general mechanism used by cells to fine-tune Smad3 activity in both basal and TGF-β-stimulated states. Taken together, our results have uncovered an lncRNA-based mechanism that modulates TGF-β/Smad3 signaling during SMC differentiation.

Abstract
Livestock is an important food resource for the inhabitants of cold regions, such as northern Asia and alpine regions, where agriculture is limited. In these regions, cold stress largely affects livestock production, thereby reducing the productivity and survival of animals. Despite the importance of breeding cold-tolerant animals, few studies have investigated the effects of cold stress on cattle. Furthermore, whether severe cold stress alters gene expression or affects molecular genetic mechanisms remains unknown. Thus, we investigated gene expression changes in the peripheral blood samples of the Chinese Sanhe cattle exposed to severe cold. A total of 193 genes were found to exhibit significant alteration in expression (P < 0.05; fold change > 1.3), with 107 genes showing upregulation and 86 showing downregulation after cold exposure. The differences in the expression of 10 selected genes were further validated by real-time qRT-PCR. Further analyses showed that these differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were predominantly associated with important biological pathways and gene networks, such as lipid metabolism and cell death and survival, which are potentially associated with severe cold-stress resistance. Identification and description of these cold stress-induced DEGs might lead to the discovery of novel blood biomarkers that could be used to assess cold-stress resistance in cattle. To our knowledge, this is the first genomic evidence of differences in the transcript expression pattern in cattle exposed to severe cold stress. Our findings provide insights on the potential molecular mechanisms underlying cold-stress response in cattle.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vascular remodeling because of smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation is a common process occurring in several vascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysm, post-transplant vasculopathy, restenosis after angioplasty, etc. The molecular mechanism underlying SMC proliferation, however, is not completely understood. The objective of this study is to determine the role and mechanism of Janus kinase 3 (JAK3) in vascular remodeling and SMC proliferation. APPROACH AND RESULTS Platelet-derived growth factor-BB, an SMC mitogen, induces JAK3 expression and phosphorylation while stimulating SMC proliferation. Janex-1, a specific inhibitor of JAK3, or knockdown of JAK3 by short hairpin RNA, inhibits the SMC proliferation. Conversely, ectopic expression of JAK3 promotes SMC proliferation. Mechanistically, JAK3 promotes the phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase in SMC, 2 signaling pathways known to be critical for SMC proliferation and vascular remodeling. Blockade of these 2 signaling pathways by their inhibitors impeded the JAK3-mediated SMC proliferation. In vivo, knockdown of JAK3 attenuates injury-induced neointima formation with attenuated neointimal SMC proliferation. Knockdown of JAK3 also induces neointimal SMC apoptosis in rat carotid artery balloon injury model. CONCLUSIONS Our results demonstrate that JAK3 mediates SMC proliferation and survival during injury-induced vascular remodeling, which provides a potential therapeutic target for preventing neointimal hyperplasia in proliferative vascular diseases.

Abstract
Roegneria kamoji Ohwi is an excellent forage grass due to its high feeding value and high resistance to some biotic and abiotic stresses. However, the start codon targeted (SCoT) polymorphism has not been conducted on R. kamoji. In this study, an orthogonal L16 (45) design was employed to investigate the effects of five factors (Mg2+, dNTPs, Taq DNA polymerase, primer, and template DNA) on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to determine the optimal SCoT-PCR system for R. kamoji. The results showed that the most suitable conditions for SCoT-PCR in R. kamoji included 1.5 mM Mg2+, 0.15 mM dNTPs, 1.0 U Taq DNA polymerase, 0.4 pM primer, and 40 ng template DNA. SCoT primers 39 and 41 were used to verify the stability of the optimal reaction system, and amplification bands obtained from diverse samples were found to be clear, rich, and stable in polymorphisms, indicating that this reaction system can be used for SCoT-PCR analysis of R. kamoji. We have developed a simple and rapid way to study the mutual effects of factors and to obtain positive results through the use of an orthogonal design L16 (45) to optimize the SCoT-PCR system. This method may provide basic information for molecular marker-assisted breeding and analyses of genetic diversity in R. kamoji.

Abstract
Research on the identity of genes and their relationship with traits of economic importance in chickens could assist in the selection of poultry. In this study, an F2 resource population of Gushi chickens crossed with Anka broilers was used to detect single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the flanking region of the ASB15 gene by DNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). One SNP of -1271 C>T in 5' flanking region of the chicken ASB15 gene and two SNPs of the 10618 A>G and 10716 G>A in 3' flanking region were identified. Furthermore, the 10618 A>G and 10716 G>A in 3' flanking region were in complete linkage. Association analysis results showed that -1271 C>T was not associated with performance traits, while the 10618 A>G and 10716 G>A were significantly associated with BW2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, SL12, CD8, CW4, 8, 12, BSL4, 8, 12, and SEW, EW, WW, BMW, LW, CW, SFT. Our results suggest that the ASB15 gene profoundly affects chicken performance traits.

Abstract
Advancements in micro-/nano-technology have led to the development of micro-manipulators. However, some challenges remain; for instance, the efficiency, precision and flexibility of micro-manipulators restrain their applications. This paper proposes a bio-tweezer system to flexibly manipulate micro-objects with bio-actuation via local light-induced high-concentration microorganisms in two different manipulation modes: light-spot induced mode and geometric shape-induced mode. Depending on the shape of micro-objects, either 2-dimensional translation or 1-dimensional rotation can be achieved. Based on the Langevin equation, a mathematical model considering both hydrodynamics and mimicked Brownian motion is proposed to analyze the bio-manipulation performance of the microorganisms; the model was validated by experiments to translate micro-particles in a two-dimensional plane and to rotate a micro-gear structure around its axis. This paper will aid in the development of micro-manipulators and the quantitative understanding of micro-/nano-manipulation actuated by microorganisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES State-specific obesity prevalence data are critical to public health efforts to address the childhood obesity epidemic. However, few states administer objectively measured body mass index (BMI) surveillance programs. This study reports state-specific childhood obesity prevalence by age and sex correcting for parent-reported child height and weight bias. SUBJECTS/METHODS As part of the Childhood Obesity Intervention Cost Effectiveness Study (CHOICES), we developed childhood obesity prevalence estimates for states for the period 2005-2010 using data from the 2010 US Census and American Community Survey (ACS), 2003-2004 and 2007-2008 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) (n=133 213), and 2005-2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) (n=9377; ages 2-17). Measured height and weight data from NHANES were used to correct parent-report bias in NSCH using a non-parametric statistical matching algorithm. Model estimates were validated against surveillance data from five states (AR, FL, MA, PA and TN) that conduct censuses of children across a range of grades. RESULTS Parent-reported height and weight resulted in the largest overestimation of childhood obesity in males ages 2-5 years (NSCH: 42.36% vs NHANES: 11.44%). The CHOICES model estimates for this group (12.81%) and for all age and sex categories were not statistically different from NHANES. Our modeled obesity prevalence aligned closely with measured data from five validation states, with a 0.64 percentage point mean difference (range: 0.23-1.39) and a high correlation coefficient (r=0.96, P=0.009). Estimated state-specific childhood obesity prevalence ranged from 11.0 to 20.4%. CONCLUSION Uncorrected estimates of childhood obesity prevalence from NSCH vary widely from measured national data, from a 278% overestimate among males aged 2-5 years to a 44% underestimate among females aged 14-17 years. This study demonstrates the validity of the CHOICES matching methods to correct the bias of parent-reported BMI data and highlights the need for public release of more recent data from the 2011 to 2012 NSCH.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the possible reversal effects of 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione (DPPD) for cocaine-induced content changes of neurotransmitters of brain in mice. METHODS In this study, 36 healthy ICR male mice were randomly divided into control group, cocaine group, three DPPD pretreatment groups (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg) and DPPD alone group (800 mg/kg). The mice in control group were administered intragastrically with 1% Tween 80 for 3 d, and the mice in cocaine group were administered intragastrically with 1% Tween 80 for 2 d before cocaine was injected subcutaneously on the 3rd day. The mice in the three DPPD pretreatment groups were administered intragastrically (DPPD 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg) for 3 d before cocaine was injected subcutaneously 30 min after the administration on the 3rd day. The mice in DPPD alone group were administered intragastrically with DPPD at dose of 800 mg/kg for 3 d. The mice were sacrificed 20 minutes after cocaine injection. The contents of dopamine (DA) and 5-hydroxytryptamin (5-HT) in the mice brain were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-fluorescence detector, the contents of glutamic acid (Glu) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the mice brain were determined by HPLC-ultraviolet detector, and the neurotransmitter levels were compared between the groups. RESULTS The results showed that as compared with the control group, DA and GABA contents in cocaine group increased significantly (P<0.01 and P<0.05), while Glu content decreased (P<0.05). As compared with cocaine group, the DA levels in the three DPPD pretreatment groups (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg) all decreased significantly (P<0.01). In DPPD 200 mg/kg pre-administration group, GABA content decreased (P<0.05), and the contents of the four kinds of neurotransmitters had no statistical differences with those of the control group. CONCLUSION DPPD may have potential reversal effects of the content changes of neurotransmitters in mice brain induced by cocaine at a lower dose.

Abstract
Vascular remodeling due to smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation is a common process occurring in a number of vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysm, posttransplant vasculopathy, and restenosis after angioplasty, etc. The molecular mechanism underlying SMC proliferation, however, is not completed understood. Our present study has identified Janus kinase 3 (JAK3), a member of the Janus kinase family, as a novel regulator for SMC proliferation. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB, a SMC mitogen, induces JAK3 expression and phosphorylation while stimulating SMC proliferation. Janex-1, a specific inhibitor of JAK3, or knockdown of JAK3 by shRNA inhibits SMC proliferation. Conversely, ectopic expression of JAK3 promotes SMC proliferation. Interestingly, JAK3 does not affect SMC contractile protein expression, suggesting that JAK3 mediate the proliferation, but not the phenotypic modulation of SMC. Mechanistically, JAK3 promotes SMC proliferation by regulating phosphorylation of Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase. In vivo, by using a rat carotid balloon-injury model, we found that knockdown of JAK3 significantly attenuates injury-induced neointima formation. Importantly, JAK3 knockdown blocked the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen, suggesting that JAK3 is essential for SMC proliferation in vivo. Moreover, JAK3 knockdown prompts apoptosis in neointima SMC, indicating that JAK3 also stimulates SMC survival during neointima formation. Collectively, our data demonstrate that JAK3 mediates vascular remodeling by promoting both the SMC proliferation and survival.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the Fusarium toxin zearalenone (ZEA) and deoxynivalenol (DON) on splenic antioxidant functions, IFN levels, and T-cell subsets in mice. Herein, 360 mice were assigned to nine groups for a 12-day study. Mice were administered an intraperitoneal injection for 4 consecutive days with different concentrations of ZEA alone, DON alone, or ZEA+DON. Spleen and blood samples were collected on days 0, 3, 5, 8, and 12. Mice in each of the experimental groups showed dysreglated splenic antioxidant functions, IFN levels, and T-cell subset frequencies, suggesting that the immune system had been affected. The ZEA+DON-treated groups, especially the group that received a higher concentration of ZEA+DON (Group D2Z2), showed more obvious effects on the dysregulation of splenic antioxidant functions, IFN levels, and T-cell subsets. This finding suggested that DON and ZEA exerted synergistic effects.

Abstract
The adverse reactions of warfarin that were found mainly occurred in the first month. This study was carried out to observe the effect of gene polymorphisms on the warfarin therapy at the initial stage. Four-hundred and sixty Chinese patients began warfarin treatment with daily 2.5 mg after heart valve replacement operations were enrolled. The daily international normalized ratio (INR) for anticoagulation were recorded till the seventh day. Blood samples were collected and used to detect genotypes for VKORC1 rs7294, CYP2C9 rs1057910, CYP4F2 rs2108622 and ORM1 rs17650. INR and their changes were compared among genotypes. INR was partially correlated with the VKORC1 rs7294, CYP2C9 rs1057910, CYP4F2 rs2108622 and ORM1 rs17650 polymorphisms from the third, fourth and sixth day on, respectively. VKORC1 rs7294 and CYP4F2 rs2108622 carriers responded lower than the wild genotype, whereas CYP2C9 rs1057910 and ORM1 rs17650 carriers responded higher, respectively. Fifty percent of AA/*1*3/CC/*S*S patients and 16% of AA/*1*1/CC/*S*S patients were over anticoagulation treated with INR >4.0 at the third day. Ninety percent of VKORC1 rs7294 carrier patients have INR <1.63, a mark of the 25% of lower responders of the wild genotype. Our study provided another kind of evidence that VKORC1 rs7294, CYP2C9 rs1057910, CYP4F2 rs2108622 and ORM1 rs17650 affected the action of warfarin in different styles. Patients with AA/*1*1/CC/*S*S, AA/*1*3/CC/*S*S should use a less initial dosage to avoid over anticoagulation, and patients with VKORC1 rs7294 should use larger initial dose to proof an effective therapy.

Abstract
Smooth muscle cell (SMC) differentiation is an important process during embryonic development. The underlying mechanisms regulating the SMC differentiation process, however, remain largely unknown. The present study identified dedicator of cytokinesis 2 (DOCK2) as one of the factors mediating the SMC differentiation. DOCK2 was important in mediating the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)-induced SMC differentiation from human embryonic stem cell derived mesenchymal cells (hES-MCs) and 10T 1/2 pluripotent embryonic mesenchymal cells. TGF-β induced DOCK2 expression during SMC differentiation as shown by the SMC marker expression including α-SMA, SM22α and calponin. DOCK2 overexpression induced while DOCK2 knockout inhibited SMC early marker gene expression. Mechanistically, DOCK2 induced SMC differentiation by activating phosphorylated p38 MAPK. DOCK2 overexpression induced while DOCK2 knockdown inhibited the level of phosphorylated p38. P38 pathway inhibitor dramatically decreased DOCK2-induced SMC marker gene expression. In vivo, reduced blood vessel formation was observed in the DOCK2-/- embryo yolk sac compared to the wild type yolk sac. Hemorrhage was also evident in the DOCK2-/- embryo. Histological analysis revealed defective expression of calponin and α-SMA in dorsal aorta of DOCK2-/- embryo. Taken together, our studies demonstrated that DOCK2 is an important novel factor regulating SMC differentiation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Hyperuricemia is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis, yet the potential mechanisms are not well understood. Migration and adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells play key roles in initiation and development of atherosclerosis. We investigated monocyte-endothelial cell interactions and potential signaling pathways under uric acid (UA)-stimulated conditions. METHODS AND RESULTS Primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were cultured and exposed to different concentrations of UA for various periods. Experimental hyperuricemia rat models were established. Expression of chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin 8 (IL-8), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were evaluated. Monocyte-endothelial cell interactions were elucidated by chemotaxis and adhesion assays, and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway was studied using fluorescent microscopy and electrophoretic mobility shift assay. Results showed that high concentration of UA stimulated generation of chemokines and adhesion molecules in ex vivo and in vivo experiments. Migration and adhesion of human monocytic leukemia cell line THP-1 cells to HUVECs were promoted and activated NF-κB was significantly increased. UA-induced responses were ameliorated by organic anion transporter inhibitor probenecid and NF-κB inhibitor BAY11-7082. It was also observed that human endothelial cells expressed urate transporter-1, which was not regulated by UA. CONCLUSION High concentration of UA exerts unfavorable effects directly on vascular endothelium via the NF-κB signaling pathway, the process of which requires intracellular uptake of UA.

Abstract
Currently, osteoarthritis (OA) is considered a disease of the entire joint, which is not simply a process of wear and tear but rather abnormal remodelling and joint failure of an organ. The bone-cartilage interface is therefore a functioning synergistic unit, with a close physical association between subchondral bone and cartilage suggesting the existence of biochemical and molecular crosstalk across the OA interface. The crosstalk at the bone-cartilage interface may be elevated in OA in vivo and in vitro. Increased vascularisation and formation of microcracks associated with abnormal bone remodelling in joints during OA facilitate molecular transport from cartilage to bone and vice versa. Recent reports suggest that several critical signalling pathways and biological factors are key regulators and activate cellular and molecular processes in crosstalk among joint compartments. Therapeutic interventions including angiogenesis inhibitors, agonists/antagonists of molecules and drugs targeting bone remodelling are potential candidates for this interaction. This review summarised the premise for the presence of crosstalk in bone-cartilage interface as well as the current knowledge of the major signalling pathways and molecular interactions that regulate OA progression. A better understanding of crosstalk in bone-cartilage interface may lead to development of more effective strategies for treating OA patients.

Abstract
CBL-interacting protein kinases (CIPKs) mediate many plant responses to abiotic stress. However, their functions are poorly understood in halophytes. In this study, we isolated a CIPK gene, NtCIPK2, from the halophyte Nitraria tangutorum. By sequence alignment and the construction of a phylogenetic tree, we found that NtCIPK2 is similar to CIPK2 proteins from other plants, and contains conserved domains and motifs. The promoter of NtCIPK2 harbors many cis-acting elements that might be recognized and bound by transcription factors that are related to hormones and stress responses. NtCIPK2 was ubiquitously and robustly expressed in all tested organs, and was induced by salinity, drought, heat, and cold stress. The overexpression of NtCIPK2 in Escherichia coli caused better growth against high salinity, alkalinity, and osmotic conditions, dehydration, and extreme temperatures (i.e., heat and cold) compared to the control. Thus, NtCIPK2 is a candidate gene that might improve the stress tolerance of crops and herbs through genetic manipulation.

Abstract
Bovine mastitis is the most common and costly disease of dairy cattle. Cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) is closely related to the immune response in mastitis. We quantified promoter CpG methylation levels of the CD4 gene in Chinese Holsteins with clinical mastitis (CM) and in healthy controls; these levels were quantitatively detected with bisulfite pyrosequencing assays and confirmed by cloning sequencing. We found that the bovine CD4 promoter had 16% more methyl groups in the cows with CM (75.0 ± 5.8%) compared to the controls (59.0 ± 8.5%). The decreased expression level of CD4 in CM cows may be downregulated by the increased DNA methylation levels in the CD4 promoter. Two-dimensional hierarchical clustering analyses showed large differences in promoter CD4 methylation between mastitic and healthy cows; the dendrogram clearly distinguished the cows with clinical mastitis from healthy controls based on methylation levels. The DNA methylation level of the CD4 gene was strongly influenced by mastitis status in all comparisons. We suggest that the DNA methylation level of the CD4 promoter can be used as a molecular marker for clinical mastitis in dairy cows.
