Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Subconjunctival fat prolapse and dermolipoma of the orbit are unfamiliar to radiologists and yet should be differentiated because their treatments are different. The purpose of this study was to investigate the CT and MR imaging findings that distinguish these 2 conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between 1995 and 2009, we found 33 patients (27 men, 6 women; mean age, 63 years) with surgically proved subconjunctival fat prolapse and 27 patients (3 males, 24 females; mean age, 17 years) with dermolipoma in our hospital. Among them, 8 patients with subconjunctival fat prolapse and 6 patients with dermolipoma underwent CT and/or MR imaging examinations. We retrospectively reviewed CT scans and MR images in these patients. RESULTS In all of the 8 patients with subconjunctival fat prolapse, CT and MR images demonstrated the herniated fat at the superotemporal epibulbar area, continuous with the intraconal fat, extending forward between the lateral wall of the globe medially and the lateral rectus muscle and the lacrimal gland laterally, either bilaterally (n = 7) or unilaterally (n = 1). In contrast, all 6 patients with dermolipoma had a unilateral, crescent- (n = 5), or triangle-shaped (n = 1) fatty mass at the temporal or superotemporal epibulbar area, which lay on the lateral wall of the globe, anterior to the insertion of the lateral rectus muscle and medial to the lacrimal gland, without connection to the intraconal fat. CONCLUSIONS The characteristic CT and MR imaging findings may help easily differentiate subconjunctival fat prolapse and dermolipoma, both of which usually present as an epibulbar fatty mass in the lateral canthal area.

Abstract
463 Background: Multiphoton microscopy (MPM) has gained increasing popularity during the past few years because of the distinct advantages over single-photon microscopy, which includes increased penetration depth and low out-of-focus photodamage. However, there had been no report on multiphoton probes for malignancy. Previous studies reported that Zn and Cu ions which are co-factor of antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), altered in malignancy tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate application of the multiphoton (MP) probe of Zn and Cu for colon cancer tissues. Methods: We monitored the Zn/Cu ions in the colon cancer cell lines with multiphoton probe Microscopy. The multiphoton probe AZn2+ (C38H38N6O3) and ACu+ (C34H47N3O3S4), we developed and obtained the patent on it, were stained in live cancer cell lines. The tissues of colon cancer, adenoma and normal mucosa were obtained by biopsy during colonoscopy. Then the tissues were stained with 20μM of the MP probes for Zn/Cu ions. The distribution and concentration of zinc and copper ions were monitored by MPM by following the change in MPEF along the depth of tissue. Results: The majority of Zn2+ and Cu+ ions distributed in cytosole. The average multi-photon excited fluorescence (MPEF) intensities due to Cu, Zn, and Cu/Zn ratio were remarkably different between the normal mucosa and adenoma/adenocarcinoma tissues. The Zn2+ content was significantly lower and the Cu2+ content was significantly higher to result in a much lower the Zn/Cu ratio in adenoma/adenocarcinoma than in normal mucosa tissues. Conclusions: We have obtained multiphoton microscopy images of normal and cancer cell lines as well as mucosa and adenoma/adenocarcinoma tissues labeled with newly developed MP probes AZn1 and ACu1. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract
Phosphorylation of the Fas-associated death domain (FADD) protein sensitizes cancer cells to various chemotherapeutics. However, the molecular mechanism underlying chemosensitization by phosphorylated FADD (P-FADD) is poorly understood. In this study, we describe the physical interactions and functional interplay between Polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) and FADD. Plk1 phosphorylates FADD at Ser-194 in response to treatment with taxol. Overexpression of a phosphorylation-mimicking mutant, FADD S194D, caused degradation of Plk1 in an ubiquitin-independent manner, and delayed cytokinesis, consistent with the expected cellular phenotype of Plk1 deficiency. This demonstrates that Plk1 is regulated via a negative feedback loop by its substrate, FADD. Overexpression of FADD S194D sensitized HeLa cells to a low dose of taxol independently of caspase activation, whereas overexpression of FADD S194D resulted in caspase activation in response to a high dose of taxol. Therefore, we examined whether the death potential of P-FADD affected Plk1-mediated tumorigenesis. Transfection of FADD S194D inhibited colony formation by Plk1-overexpressing HeLa cells (HeLa-Plk1). Moreover, overexpression of FADD S194D suppressed tumorigenesis in nude mice xenografted with HeLa-Plk1. Therefore, this study reports the first in vivo validation of tumor-suppressing activity of P-FADD. Collectively, our data demonstrate that in response to taxol, Plk1 endows death-promoting and tumor-suppressor functions to its substrate, FADD.

Abstract
We have measured the azimuthal anisotropy of π⁰ production for 1<p(T)<18 GeV/c for Au+Au collisions at sqrt((s)NN)=200 GeV. The observed anisotropy shows a gradual decrease for 3≲p(T)≲7-10 GeV/c, but remains positive beyond 10 GeV/c. The magnitude of this anisotropy is underpredicted, up to at least ∼10 GeV/c, by current perturbative QCD (PQCD) energy-loss model calculations. An estimate of the increase in anisotropy expected from initial-geometry modification due to gluon saturation effects and fluctuations is insufficient to account for this discrepancy. Calculations that implement a path-length dependence steeper than what is implied by current PQCD energy-loss models show reasonable agreement with the data.

Abstract
Differential measurements of the elliptic (v(2)) and hexadecapole (v(4)) Fourier flow coefficients are reported for charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum (p(T)) and collision centrality or number of participant nucleons (N(part)) for Au+Au collisions at sq.rt(s(NN))=200 GeV. The v(2,4) measurements at pseudorapidity |η|≤0.35, obtained with four separate reaction-plane detectors positioned in the range 1.0<|η|<3.9, show good agreement, indicating the absence of significant Δη-dependent nonflow correlations. Sizable values for v(4)(p(T)) are observed with a ratio v(4)(p(T),N(part))/v(2)(2)(p(T),N(part))≈0.8 for 50≲N(part)≲200, which is compatible with the combined effects of a finite viscosity and initial eccentricity fluctuations. For N(part)≳200 this ratio increases up to 1.7 in the most central collisions.

Abstract
Hard-scattered parton probes produced in collisions of large nuclei indicate large partonic energy loss, possibly with collective produced-medium response to the lost energy. We present measurements of π^{0} trigger particles at transverse momenta p{T}{t}=4-12 GeV/c and associated charged hadrons (p{T}{a}=0.5-7 GeV/c) vs relative azimuthal angle Δϕ in Au+Au and p+p collisions at sqrt[s{NN}]=200 GeV. The Au+Au distribution at low p{T}{a}, whose shape has been interpreted as a medium effect, is modified for p{T}{t}<7 GeV/c. At higher p{T}{t}, the data are consistent with unmodified or very weakly modified shapes, even for the lowest measured p{T}{a}, which quantitatively challenges some medium response models. The associated yield of hadrons opposing the trigger particle in Au+Au relative to p+p (I{AA}) is suppressed at high p{T} (I{AA}≈0.35-0.5), but less than for inclusive suppression (R{AA}≈0.2).

Abstract
Encephalitic flaviviruses are important arthropod-borne pathogens of humans and other animals. In particular, the recent emergence of the West Nile virus (WNV) and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in new geographic areas has caused a considerable public health alert and international concern. Among the experimental in vivo models of WNV and JEV infection, mice and other laboratory rodents are the most thoroughly studied and well-characterized systems, having provided data that are important for understanding the infectious process in humans. Macaca monkeys have also been used as a model for WNV and JEV infection, mainly for the evaluation of vaccine efficacy, although a limited number of published studies have addressed pathomorphology. These animal models demonstrate the development of encephalitis with many similarities to the human disease; however, the histological events that occur during infection, especially in peripheral tissues, have not been fully characterized.
