Abstract
We propose two sets of initial conditions for magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in which both the velocity and the magnetic fields have spatial symmetries that are preserved by the dynamical equations as the system evolves. When implemented numerically they allow for substantial savings in CPU time and memory storage requirements for a given resolved scale separation. Basic properties of these Taylor-Green flows generalized to MHD are given, and the ideal nondissipative case is studied up to the equivalent of 2048;{3} grid points for one of these flows. The temporal evolution of the logarithmic decrements delta of the energy spectrum remains exponential at the highest spatial resolution considered, for which an acceleration is observed briefly before the grid resolution is reached. Up to the end of the exponential decay of delta , the behavior is consistent with a regular flow with no appearance of a singularity. The subsequent short acceleration in the formation of small magnetic scales can be associated with a near collision of two current sheets driven together by magnetic pressure. It leads to strong gradients with a fast rotation of the direction of the magnetic field, a feature also observed in the solar wind.

Abstract
We present measurements of the forward-backward charge asymmetry in top pair production using 1.9 fb;{-1} of pp[over ] collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab II. Correcting for acceptance and measurement dilutions we obtain parton-level asymmetries of A_{FB};{pp[over ]}=0.17+/-0.08 in the pp[over ] frame and A_{FB};{tt[over ]}=0.24+/-0.14 in the tt[over ] frame. The values are consistent with the standard model expectation and disfavor exotic production mechanisms with significant negative values.

Abstract
We report a search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay of the top quark t-->Zq (q=u, c) in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb(-1) collected by the CDF II detector. This decay is strongly suppressed in the standard model and an observation of a signal at the Fermilab Tevatron would be an indication of physics beyond the standard model. Using Z+ > or = 4 jet final state candidate events, with and without an identified bottom quark jet, we obtain an upper limit of B(t-->Zq) < 3.7% at 95% C.L.

Abstract
We present the results of searches for large extra dimensions in samples of events with large missing transverse energy E_{T} and either a photon or a jet produced in pp[over ] collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab II. For gamma+E_{T} and jet+E_{T} candidate samples corresponding to 2.0 and 1.1 fb;{-1} of integrated luminosity, respectively, we observe good agreement with standard model expectations and obtain a combined lower limit on the fundamental parameter of the large extra dimensions model M_{D} as a function of the number of extra dimensions in the model.

Abstract
BACKGROUND HIV-1 infection of the CSF space is nearly universal in untreated systemic infection, and correlates strongly with intrathecal and systemic immunoactivation and CSF pleocytosis. Based on the potential immunomodulatory and antiviral properties of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins), we examined the effect of atorvastatin on CSF HIV-1 infection and associated CSF abnormalities in a small pilot study. METHODS Seven male HIV-1-infected, antiretroviral-naïve subjects with a mean blood CD4+ T cell count of 473 cells/muL were studied in an open-label, single-arm pilot study to assess the effects of 80 mg atorvastatin daily for 8 weeks. The primary endpoint was the change in CSF HIV-1 RNA levels, both absolutely and relative to plasma HIV-1 RNA, at 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. Other outcome measures included CSF white blood cell counts and neopterin concentrations as indices of intrathecal immunoactivation, and blood HIV-1 RNA levels, neopterin concentrations, and T lymphocyte counts. Effects on blood lipids were used to monitor the established biologic effects of atorvastatin and treatment adherence. RESULTS No significant changes in CSF virologic and inflammatory indices or in systemic HIV-1 infection were observed during atorvastatin treatment despite potent reduction of blood lipids. CONCLUSION Atorvastatin showed no appreciable effect on CSF HIV-1 infection or intrathecal immunoactivation in this small uncontrolled study and thus appears to have little promise as an immunomodulatory adjuvant therapy for CNS HIV-1 infection, at least in neuroasymptomatic subjects with preserved CD4+ T cell counts.

Abstract
Barrett's esophagus develops when refluxed gastric juice injures the esophageal squamous lining and the injury heals through a metaplastic process in which intestinal-type columnar cells replace squamous ones. The progenitor cell that gives rise to Barrett's metaplasia is not known, nor is it known why the condition is predisposed to malignancy. We studied the contribution of bone marrow stem cells to the development of Barrett's esophagus in an animal model. Twenty female rats were given a lethal dose of irradiation followed by tail vein injection of bone marrow cells from male rats. Ten days later, the female rats were randomly assigned to undergo either esophagojejunostomy, a procedure that causes reflux esophagitis with intestinal metaplasia, or a sham operation. The rats were killed at 8 weeks and serial sections of the snap-frozen esophagi were cut and mounted on slides. The first and last sections were used for histological evaluation and the intervening sections were immunostained for cytokeratin to identify epithelial cells and analyzed for Y chromosome by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Histological evaluation of the esophagi from rats that had esophagojejunostomy revealed ulcerative esophagitis and multiple areas of intestinal metaplasia. FISH analyses showed that some of the squamous epithelial cells and some of the columnar epithelial cells lining the glands of the intestinal metaplasia were positive for Y chromosome. These observations suggest that multi-potential progenitor cells of bone marrow origin contribute to esophageal regeneration and metaplasia in this rat model of Barrett's esophagus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preliminary work has shown that diffusion tensor MRI (DTI) may contribute to the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). OBJECTIVES We conducted a large, prospective, case control study to determine: (1) if fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values on DTI in the basal ganglia and substantia nigra are different between patients with PD and healthy controls; and (2) the predictive value of these parameters and their clinical utility. METHODS DTI imaging was carried out in patients with PD and controls. FA and ADC values were obtained from various brain structures on the DTI scan using the diffusion tensor taskcard. The structures studied were: caudate, putamen, globus pallidus, thalamus and substantia nigra. RESULTS 151 subjects (73 PD patients, 41 men, 32 women; mean age 63.6 years) and 78 age and sex matched control subjects were studied. The FA value of the substantia nigra in patients with PD was lower compared with controls (0.403 vs 0.415; p = 0.001). However, no significant differences were demonstrated for FA or ADC values of other structures. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the clinical severity of PD correlated inversely with the FA value in the substantia nigra in patients with PD (regression coefficient -0.019). No single FA value had both a high positive and negative predictive power for PD. CONCLUSIONS We demonstrated in a large, prospective, case control study that the FA value in the substantia nigra on DTI was lower in PD compared with healthy controls, and correlated inversely with the clinical severity of PD. Further longitudinal studies would be helpful to assess the clinical utility of serial FA measurements of the substantia nigra in objective quantification of disease progression and monitoring of the therapeutic response.

Abstract
We present the first search for heavy, long-lived particles that decay to photons at a hadron collider. We use a sample of gamma + jet + missing transverse energy events in pp[over] collisions at square root[s] = 1.96 TeV taken with the CDF II detector. Candidate events are selected based on the arrival time of the photon at the detector. Using an integrated luminosity of 570 pb(-1) of collision data, we observe 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3+/-0.7 events. While our search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, we set cross section limits in a supersymmetric model with [Formula: see text] and place the world-best 95% C.L. lower limit on the [Formula: see text] mass of 101 GeV/c(2) at [Formula: see text].

Abstract
To assess the possible neurological basis of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), the relationships between BPSD and cognitive function were evaluated in 40 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). BPSD was assessed using the Behavioral Pathology in Alzheimer's Disease Frequency Weighted Severity Scale (BEHAVE-AD-FW) for behavioral symptoms and psychological symptoms separately, and cognitive function was also assessed using the Cognitive Abilities Screening Instrument (CASI). We found that only behavioral symptoms were associated with cognitive function based on the CASI total score and the score for the CASI attention domain. Administration of risperidone, an atypical anti-psychotic drug, for one month, improved the behavioral symptoms and the scores for the CASI attention and orientation domains. Our data suggest that BPSD in AD may reflect two largely independent pathophysiological processes: one associated with behavioral symptoms partly overlapping with attention, and the other associated with psychological symptoms predominantly unrelated to cognitive function.
