Abstract
We report the observation of the decay B- → D(s)((*)+) K- ℓ- ν(ℓ) based on 342 fb(-1) of data collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+ e- storage rings at SLAC. A simultaneous fit to three D(s)(+) decay chains is performed to extract the signal yield from measurements of the squared missing mass in the B meson decay. We observe the decay B- → D(s)((*)+) K- ℓ- ν(ℓ) with a significance greater than 5 standard deviations (including systematic uncertainties) and measure its branching fraction to be B(B- → D(s)((*)+) K- ℓ- ν(ℓ)) = [6.13(-1.03)(+1.04)(stat)±0.43(syst)±0.51(B(D(s)))]×10(-4), where the last error reflects the limited knowledge of the D(s) branching fractions.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Aromatase inhibitors have not been adequately assessed in treatment of ovarian cancer. The aromatase inhibitor letrozole (2.5 mg daily) was administered in 2 cases of advanced endometrioid ovarian cancer with positive estrogen receptor. CASE 1: A 52-year-old woman with a grade 2-3, stage iiic endometrioid ovarian cancer was optimally debulked and received 6 cycles of intravenous paclitaxel and intraperitoneal cisplatin-paclitaxel. Post chemotherapy, one of several biopsies showed residual disease during the second-look laparoscopy. This patient was treated with letrozole and remained disease-free during 30 months of follow-up. CASE 2: A 47-year-old woman with a grade 3, stage iiic endometrioid ovarian cancer was optimally debulked and treated with intravenous carboplatin-paclitaxel. After a 15-month remission, her first recurrent disease was treated with carboplatin-docetaxel. The second remission lasted only 11 months, after which the patient was treated with splenectomy and subsequent liposomal doxorubicin. Letrozole was administered after the chemotherapy. The patient had a 30-month remission before the next recurrence of her disease. CONCLUSIONS Endometrioid ovarian carcinoma may benefit from aromatase inhibitors, especially when the tumour burden is low after primary chemotherapy or when the inhibitor is used as maintenance therapy between chemotherapies.

Abstract
We search for single-photon decays of the Υ(1S) resonance, Υ → γ + invisible, where the invisible state is either a particle of definite mass, such as a light Higgs boson A⁰, or a pair of dark matter particles, χχ. Both A⁰ and χ are assumed to have zero spin. We tag Υ(1S) decays with a dipion transition Υ(2S) → π⁺π⁻Υ(1S) and look for events with a single energetic photon and significant missing energy. We find no evidence for such processes in the mass range m(A⁰) ≤ 9.2 GeV and m(χ) ≤ 4.5 GeV in the sample of 98 × 10⁶ Υ(2S) decays collected with the BABAR detector and set stringent limits on new physics models that contain light dark matter states.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To analyse the clinical features of Chinese undifferentiated spondyloarthritis (USpA) patients with predominantly axial involvement, and in particular the influence of human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) on the classification of axial USpA. METHODS Patients with low back pain for ≥ 3 months and no definite radiographic sacroiliitis were enrolled in this study. They were diagnosed as USpA based on rheumatologists' findings. Correlations between clinical features and HLA-B27 status or MRI manifestations were analysed. RESULTS A total of 197 USpA patients were recruited, of whom 135 (70.3%) were positive for HLA-B27. Acute inflammation, structural damage lesions, and normal findings on SIJ MRI were recorded in 64.5, 13.2 and 22.3% of patients, respectively. Classification criteria for axial SpA according to the European Spondylarthropathy Study Group (ESSG), Amor, and the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS) were fulfilled by 63.5, 64.5 and 83.2% patients, respectively. Cross-validation showed significant correlation among these three criteria. Patients positive for HLA-B27 included more males, with earlier onset age, better response to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and higher erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)/C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. In addition, more HLA-B27-positive than HLA-B27-negative patients fulfilled the ESSG, Amor, and ASAS criteria. Patients with acute inflammation on SIJ MRI had a higher level of ESR/CRP, and a greater proportion of them fulfilled the Amor and ASAS criteria. However, the proportion of those fulfilling the ESSG criteria did not differ with different MRI manifestations. CONCLUSION Both HLA-B27 status and SIJ MRI findings influence the classification of Chinese axial USpA patients, but HLA-B27 seems of more value.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to construct tissue-engineered composite intervertebral disc (IVD) consisting of demineralized bone matrix gelatin (DBMG) and collagen II/hyaluronate/chondroitin-6-sulfate (CII/HyA-CS) scaffolds seeded with anulus fibrosus (AF) and nucleus pulposus (NP) cells, respectively. The cell-scaffold hybrids were implanted in the subcutaneous space of the dorsum of athymic mice and harvested at 4, 8, and 12 weeks. At each time point, the gross and histological morphology and biochemical properties were evaluated. Our results are as following: the gross morphology and histology of the composite resembled those of native IVD. Morphological studies revealed progressive tissue formation and junction integration between AF and NP regions. Biochemical composition detection indicated that the content of DNA, proteoglycan and hydroxyproline increased with time, and were similar to native tissue at 12 weeks. All these results demonstrated the feasibility of creating a tissue-engineered composite IVD with similar morphological and biochemical properties to the native tissue.

Abstract
A new multi-dimensional analytical method using gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorus detection (GC-NPD) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was developed for qualitative and quantitative measurement of lincomycin and spectinomycin residues in food animal tissues. This method is based on a new extraction procedure using accelerated solvent extraction (ASE). The analytes were extracted by phosphate buffer with trichloroacetic acid deproteinization and clean-up by C₁₈ solid-phase extraction (SPE) adding dodecanesulfonic acid sodium salt as an ion-pair reagent. The eluted fraction was evaporated and derivatised with N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl) trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) for GC-NPD analysis and GC-MS confirmation. Parameters for extraction pressure, temperature and cycle of ASE, clean-up, derivatisation and analysis procedure were optimised. The method was validated in muscle, kidney and liver of swine, bovine with a low concentration (limit of quantification) of 16.4 and 21.4 µg kg⁻¹ for these two analytes using GC-NPD. For GC-MS, the limits of quantification were 4.1 and 5.6 µg kg⁻¹, respectively. Spiked recoveries from levels of 20 to 200 µg kg⁻¹ were found to be between 73% and 99% with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 17% in GC-NPD. For GC-MS, levels from 5 to 20 µg kg⁻¹ had between 70% and 93% with an RSD of less than 21%. This rapid and reliable method can be used for the characterisation and quantification of residues of lincomycin and spectinomycin in animal tissues.

Abstract
Thymosin-α1 (TA1) has been shown to be effective treatment for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This study investigated the immune response after TA1 monotherapy in 25 HBV e antigen (HBeAg)-positive patients randomized to receive either 1.6 mg active TA1 (group A), 1.6 mg recombinant TA1 (group B) or 3.2 mg recombinant TA1 (group C) monotherapy for 52 weeks. The percentages of T-helper 1 (Th1) cytokine-producing T-cells (interleukin-2 [IL-2], interferon-γ [IFN-γ], tumour necrosis factor-α) and Th2 cytokine-producing T-cells (IL-4) were analysed using flow cytometry. In all patients treated with TA1, cytokine levels and the proportion of peripheral blood mononuclear cells producing these cytokines were significantly increased, compared with baseline and healthy controls. The proportions of each cytokine-producing cell increased gradually over time and were restored to normal levels, and proportions of IFN-γ and IL-4-producing cells reached higher levels than in normal (healthy) controls. The results showed that treatment with TA1 increased cytokine production, especially IFN-γ, and higher-dose TA1 exhibited better efficacy against HBV, compared with other treatments studied.

Abstract
We present a search for f(J)(2220) production in radiative J/ψ→γf(J)(2220) decays using 460 fb⁻¹ of data collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+)e⁻ collider. The f(J)(2220) is searched for in the decays to K(+)K⁻ and K(S)⁰K(S)⁰. No evidence of this resonance is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the product of the branching fractions for J/ψ→γf(J)(2220) and f(J)(2220)→K(+)K⁻(K(S)⁰K(S)⁰) as a function of spin and helicity are set at the level of 10⁻⁵, below the central values reported by the Mark III experiment.

Abstract
Four sets of magnetic diagnostic coils, which are printed on machinable ceramic printed circuit boards (PCB), are designed, fabricated, installed, and tested in the Joint Texas Experimental Tokamak (J-TEXT) vacuum vessel for detecting the plasma radial and vertical displacements relative to the geometric center of the vacuum vessel in Ohmic discharges. Each coordinate is determined by a pair of variable cross-section Rogowski and saddle coils, which measure the tangential and normal magnetic fields (relative to the coil surface). These coils are suitable for mass production and offer advantages in vacuum compatibility and temperature tolerance that are important for J-TEXT. Position measurements using PCB coils are compared with those from soft x-ray image system and match the position well.

Abstract
We report the measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating angle γ through a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D-meson decays to K(S)(0) π+ π- and K(S)(0) K+ K- produced in the processes B∓ → DK∓, B∓ D* K∓ with D* → Dπ(0), Dγ, and B∓ → DK*∓ with K*∓ → K(S)(0) π∓, using 468 million BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider at SLAC. We measure γ = (68 ± 14 ± 4 ± 3)° (modulo 180°), where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third reflects the uncertainty in the description of the neutral D decay amplitudes. This result is inconsistent with γ = 0 (no direct CP violation) with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations.

Abstract
We report a direct measurement of D0-D0 mixing parameters through a time-dependent amplitude analysis of the Dalitz plots of D(0) → K(S)(0) π+ π- and, for the first time, D0 → K(S)(0)K+ K- decays. The low-momentum pion π(s)(+) in the decay D*+ → D0 π(s)(+) identifies the flavor of the neutral D meson at its production. Using 468.5 fb(-1) of e+ e- colliding-beam data recorded near square root(s)=10.6 GeV by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider at SLAC, we measure the mixing parameters x = [1.6 ± 2.3(stat) ± 1.2(syst) ± 0.8(model)] × 10(-3), and y = [5.7 ± 2.0(stat) ± 1.3(syst) ± 0.7(model)] × 10(-3). These results provide the best measurement to date of x and y. The knowledge of the value of x, in particular, is crucial for understanding the origin of mixing.

Abstract
Laterally localized electronic states are identified on a single layer of graphene on ruthenium by low temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS). The individual states are separated by 3 nm and comprise regions of about 90 carbon atoms. This constitutes a highly regular quantum dot-array with molecular precision. It is evidenced by quantum well resonances (QWRs) with energies that relate to the corrugation of the graphene layer. The dI/dV conductance spectra are modeled by a layer height dependent potential-well with a delta-function potential that describes the barrier for electron penetration into graphene. The resulting QWRs are strongest and lowest in energy on the isolated 'hill' regions with a diameter of 2 nm, where the graphene is decoupled from the surface.

Abstract
Using 467 fb(-1) of e+e- annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector, we measure (B(τ- → μ- ν(μ) ν(τ)))/(B(τ- → e- ν(e) ν(τ))) =(0.9796±0.0016±0.0036), (B(τ- → π- ν(τ)))/(B(τ- → e- ν(e) ν(τ))) = (0.5945±0.0014±0.0061), and (B(τ- → K- ν(τ)))/(B(τ- → e- ν(e) ν(τ))) = (0.03882±0.00032±0.00057), where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. From these precision τ measurements, we test the standard model assumption of μ-e and τ-μ charge current lepton universality and provide determinations of |Vus| experimentally independent of the decay of a kaon.

Abstract
Immunoreactive (ir) staining of the neuropeptides oxytocin (OT) and vasopressin (AVP) was performed in the brains of Brandt's voles (Lasiopodomys brandtii) and greater long-tailed hamsters (Tscherskia triton)-two species that differ remarkably in social behaviors. Social Brandt's voles had higher densities of OT-ir cells in the medial preoptic area (MPOA) and medial amygdala (MeA) as well as higher densities of AVP-ir cells in the lateral hypothalamus (LH) compared to solitary greater long-tailed hamsters. In contrast, the hamsters had higher densities of OT-ir cells in the anterior hypothalamus (AH) and LH and higher densities of AVP-ir cells in the MPOA than the voles. OT-ir and AVP-ir fibers were also found in many forebrain areas with subtle species differences. Given the roles of OT and AVP in the regulation of social behaviors in other rodent species, our data support the hypothesis that species-specific patterns of central OT and AVP pathways may underlie species differences in social behaviors. However, despite a higher density of OT-ir cells in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN) in females than in males in both species, no other sex differences were found in OT-ir or AVP-ir staining. These data failed to support our prediction that a sexually dimorphic pattern of neuropeptide staining in the brain is more apparent in Brandt's voles than in greater long-tailed hamsters.

Abstract
The ratio R(τμ)(Υ(1S))=Γ(Υ(1S)→τ+ τ-)/Γ(Υ(1S)→μ+ μ-) is measured using a sample of (121.8±1.2)×10(6)Υ(3S) events recorded by the BABAR detector. This measurement is intended as a test of lepton universality and as a search for a possible light pseudoscalar Higgs boson. In the standard model (SM) this ratio is expected to be close to 1. Any significant deviations would violate lepton universality and could be introduced by the coupling to a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson. The analysis studies the decays Υ(3S)→Υ(1S)π+ π-, Υ(1S)→l+ l-, where l=μ, τ. The result, R(τμ)(Υ(1S))=1.005±0.013(stat)±0.022(syst), shows no deviation from the expected SM value, while improving the precision with respect to previous measurements.
