Abstract
Recurrent disc lesions occur in about 19 percent of patients having a primary laminectomy and occurring in just under half (46 percent) of those suffering recurrent pain. The clinical features are similar to those of a primary disc lesion. The most likely site (two out of three) is the same disc level as before, with an equal probability of involving the previous or its opposite side. Re-operation appears to carry a good prognosis, with 80 percent good results, while with conservative treatment 45 percent will settle down in less than three months.

Abstract
Listeria specific antigen 2 (Ag2) was purified to within 97% of homogeneity, with a high yield, using both gel filtration and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Ag2 is a glycoprotein. Its isoelectric point is about 4.2. As determined by sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis, its molecular weight in 16710 +/- 450. Ag2 may aggregate easily since it was previously found in gel filtration in a peak corresponding to a molecular weight of 160000. No enzyme activity has been found in Ag2.

Abstract
A multiple component strategy was investigated for aiding staff responsible for supervising production of lower functioning retarded clients on contract tasks in an institution-based sheltered workshop. The strategy was assessed in a combined multi-element, multiple baseline across groups design with a reversal component. Production performance increased during the production supervisory strategy with all 16 clients, with the range of increase varying from a few percentage points to 150% of baseline production. Both the clients and staff (responsible for conducting the research) preferred working under experimental conditions rather than under baseline conditions which approximated those found in "typical" sheltered workshops.

Abstract
The present ultrastructural study deals with the lateral cephalic nerve plexus of Sphaeroma serratum, a neurohemal organ joined to the Y organ (ecdysial gland). This plexus acts as a storage centre for neurosecretory products from two sources: the two autochtonous cells (plexus cells) within the plexus itself, and the neurosecretory cells in various parts of the central nervous system, particulary the "mandibular ganglion" (A-cells). In prepuberal animals, plexus cells and subesophageal A-cells produce neurosecretory granules of two types measuring 1550 +/- 50 A and 1570 +/- 40 A respectively. Five categories of axon terminals were distinguished in the plexus. The granules found in two of these terminal types are believed to come from the plexus cells and from the "mandibular ganglion" A-cells. Cessation of production of neurosee plexus with concomitant depletion and disappearance of different granule categories. The first axon terminals affected by this process are the two categories containing granules originating in the plexus and "mandibular ganglion" A-cells. Degeneration of the ecdysial gland in male Sphaeroma serratum might be connected with the cessation of granule formation in these two types of cell.

Abstract
Of 496 patients with laryngeal cancer, 45 developed second primary cancers in other organs. In 7 patients triple primary tumours were detected. Multiple malignant tumours in the region of the upper respiratory and alimentary tracts were frequent; especially noticeable was the combination of larynx- and lung tumours. The prognosis of the second cancers is bad, since these tumours are diagnosed late and the patients are usually very old. Of patients, who were cured of the first cancers, one in five developed a new cancer after the five year limit. The follow up examinations must therefore be continued beyond the five year limit.

Abstract
The general formula for the pressure difference across a curved flexible membrane has been applied to a number of intracranial pressure (I.C.P.) measuring systems and certain criteria deduced for the accurate measurement of I.C.P. The Numoto bag, the implanted extradural transducer and the intracerebral bag have been shown to be acceptable providing these criteria have been met. Some deductions about the magnitude sign and constancy of the zero error have been made. Some other I.C.P. measuring systems have been shown to have serious and unknown zero errors which vary from hour to hour. Because of the curved surface of the ventricle itas been shown that ventricular fluid pressure cannot equal the tissue pressure (though it may closely approximate it) and the difference between the two increases as hydrocephalus progresses.

Abstract
Review of the literature and report of a new care of laryngeal cancer after irradiation of a benign lesion of the neck. These cases obviously become rare since benign lesions are no longer irradiated. Today the risk of inducing a second carcinoma by a successful irradiation of the first tumor becomes more important. A study of 109 patients, irradiated for laryngeal carcinoma and surviving with no evidence of disease for a period of at least 5 years has been performed. 8 of these patients developed a second primary in the previously irradiated area after 7-15 years. These second carcinomas are not rare if one considers that most patients with laryngeal carcinoma are 60-70 years old and therefore the life expectance on an average is low. These facts should be taken into consideration when deciding between surgical or radiation therapy in younger patients with high life expectance.

Abstract
A symbiotic bacteroid matroclinously transmitted is present in the ovocytes and the follicular cells of the sub-species Porcellio dilatatus petiti of the Saint-Honorat island, as well as in all hybrid females born from a petiti mother. It is absent in the Porfellio dilatatus dilatatus females (population of Poitiers) and this seems to cause the lithality in the periblastula stage -- as a result of abnormal anaphases--of practically all the embryos of the crossing : male petiti x female dilatatus.

Abstract
Auditory thresholds were measured for 18 ears from 13 rhesus monkeys using a simple reaction-time procedure. The threshold contour was a smooth W-shaped function with rises at the extreme frequencies and around 4 kHz and was comparable in shape with previously reported thresholds for this animal. Standard deviations averaged 5.3 dB.

Abstract
A simple, sensitive GLC assay for fenclorac is described. Plasma proteins were precipitated with methanol, and the methanolic extract was refluxed with hydrochloric acid to form the methyl esters of fenclorac and the internal standard. The esters were purified by partitioning into benzene. Aliquots of 1 microliter of the concentrated benzene phase were injected into the gas chromatograph and quantitated by a 63Ni-electron-capture detector. Recovery of fenclorac from plasma averaged 82 +/- 1.6%.

Abstract
Tomography is the only technique that gives a precise representation of the temporomandibular articulation. To delineate a discrete impingement upon the articular space and compare before-and-after treatment modalities it is essential to strictly respect the angular criteria. Selective tomography can be accomplished only if three criteria are met: 1. To make an axial cephalogram perpendicular to the submental-vertical film and to measure the angle of the grand axis of each condyle with the median sagittal plane; 2. To orient the incident ray perpendicular to this axis for the sagittal sections and parallel for the frontal sections; 3. To be sure of the exact position of the head on the tomograph. The teeth also must be placed in maximum occlusal contact.
