Abstract
An accurate measurement of the 235U(n,f) cross section from thermal to 170 keV of neutron energy has recently been performed at n_TOF facility at CERN using 6Li(n,t)4He and 10B(n,α)7Li as references. This measurement has been carried out in order to investigate a possible overestimation of the 235U fission cross section evaluation provided by most recent libraries between 10 and 30 keV. A custom experimental apparatus based on in-beam silicon detectors has been used, and a Monte Carlo simulation in GEANT4 has been employed to characterize the setup and calculate detectors efficiency. The results evidenced the presence of an overestimation in the interval between 9 and 18 keV and the new data may be used to decrease the uncertainty of 235U(n,f) cross section in the keV region.

Abstract
The study of neutron-induced reactions on actinides is of considerable importance for the design of advanced nuclear systems and alternative fuel cycles. Specifically, 230Th is produced from the α-decay of 234U as a byproduct of the 232Th/233U fuel cycle, thus the accurate knowledge of its fission cross section is strongly required. However, few experimental datasets exist in literature with large deviations among them, covering the energy range between 0.2 to 25 MeV. In addition, the study of the 230Th(n,f) cross-section is of great interest in the research on the fission process related to the structure of the fission barriers. Previous measurements have revealed a large resonance at En=715 keV and additional fine structures, but with high discrepancies among the cross-section values of these measurements. This contribution presents preliminary results of the 230Th(n,f) cross-section measurements at the CERN n_TOF facility. The high purity targets of the natural, but very rare isotope 230Th, were produced at JRC-Geel in Belgium. The measurements were performed at both experimental areas (EAR-1 and EAR-2) of the n_TOF facility, covering a very broad energy range from thermal up to at least 100 MeV. The experimental setup was based on Micromegas detectors with the 235U(n,f) and 238U(n,f) reaction cross-sections used as reference.

Abstract
New measurements of the7Be(n,α)4He and7Be(n,p)7Li reaction cross sections from thermal to keV neutron energies have been recently performed at CERN/n_TOF. Based on the new experimental results, astrophysical reaction rates have been derived for both reactions, including a proper evaluation of their uncertainties in the thermal energy range of interest for big bang nucleosynthesis studies. The new estimate of the7Be destruction rate, based on these new results, yields a decrease of the predicted cosmological7Li abundance insufficient to provide a viable solution to the cosmological lithium problem.

Abstract
The (n, γ) cross sections of the gadolinium isotopes play an important role in the study of the stellar nucleosynthesis. In particular, among the isotopes heavier than Fe, 154Gd together with 152Gd have the peculiarity to be mainly produced by the slow capture process, the so-called s-process, since they are shielded against the β-decay chains from the r-process region by their stable samarium isobars. Such a quasi pure s-process origin makes them crucial for testing the robustness of stellar models in galactic chemical evolution (GCE). According to recent models, the 154Gd and 152Gd abundances are expected to be 15-20% lower than the reference un-branched s-process 150Sm isotope. The close correlation between stellar abundances and neutron capture cross sections prompted for an accurate measurement of 154Gd cross section in order to reduce the uncertainty attributable to nuclear physics input and eventually rule out one of the possible causes of present discrepancies between observation and model predictions. To this end, the neutron capture cross section of 154Gd was measured in a wide neutron energy range (from thermal up to some keV) with high resolution in the first experimental area of the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF (EAR1) at CERN. In this contribution, after a brief description of the motivation and of the experimental setup used in the measurement, the preliminary results of the 154Gd neutron capture reaction as well as their astrophysical implications are presented.

Abstract
The design and operation of innovative nuclear systems requires a better knowledge of the capture and fission cross sections of the Pu isotopes. For the case of capture on 242Pu, a reduction of the uncertainty in the fast region down to 8-12% is required. Moreover, aiming at improving the evaluation of the fast energy range in terms of average parameters, the OECD NEA High Priority Request List (HPRL) requests high-resolution capture measurements with improved accuracy below 2 keV. The current uncertainties also affect the thermal point, where previous experiments deviate from each other by 20%. A fruitful collaboration betwen JGU Mainz and HZ Dresden-Rossendorf within the EC CHANDA project resulted in a 242Pu sample consisting of a stack of seven fission-like targets making a total of 95(4) mg of 242Pu electrodeposited on thin (11.5 μm) aluminum backings. This contribution presents the results of a set of measurements of the 242Pu(n, γ) cross section from thermal to 500 keV combining different neutron beams and techniques. The thermal point was determined at the Budapest Research Reactor by means of Neutron Activation Analysis and Prompt Gamma Analysis, and the resolved (1 eV - 4 keV) and unresolved (1 - 500 keV) resonance regions were measured using a set of four Total Energy detectors at the CERN n_TOF-EAR1.

Abstract
Accurate neutron capture cross section data for minor actinides (MAs) are required to estimate the production and transmutation rates of MAs in light water reactors with a high burnup, critical fast reactors like Gen-IV systems and other innovative reactor systems such as accelerator driven systems (ADS). Capture reactions of244Cm open the path for the formation of heavier Cm isotopes and of heavier elements such as Bk and Cf. In addition,244Cm shares nearly 50% of the total actinide decay heat in irradiated reactor fuels with a high burnup, even after three years of cooling.Experimental data for this isotope are very scarce due to the difficulties of providing isotopically enriched samples and because the high intrinsic activity of the samples requires the use of neutron facilities with high instantaneous flux. The only two previous experimental data sets for this neutron capture cross section have been obtained in 1969 using a nuclear explosion and, more recently, at J-PARC in 2010. The neutron capture cross sections have been measured at n_TOF with the same samples that the previous experiments in J-PARC. The samples were measured at n_TOF Experimental Area 2 (EAR-2) with three C6D6detectors and also in Experimental Area 1 (EAR-1) with the Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC). Preliminary results assessing the quality and limitations of these new experimental datasets are presented for the experiments in both areas. Preliminary yields of both measurements will be compared with evaluated libraries for the first time.

Feasibility, design and sensitivity studies on innovative nuclear reactors that could address the issue of nuclear waste transmutation using fuels enriched in minor actinides, require high accuracy cross section data for a variety of neutron-induced reactions from thermal energies to several tens of MeV. The isotope 241Am (T1/2= 433 years) is present in high-level nuclear waste (HLW), representing about 1.8 % of the actinide mass in spent PWR UOx fuel. Its importance increases with cooling time due to additional production from the β-decay of 241Pu with a half-life of 14.3 years. The production rate of 241 Am in conventional reactors, including its further accumulation through the decay of 241Pu and its destruction through transmutation/incineration are very important parameters for the design of any recycling solution. In the present work, the 241 Am(n,f) reaction cross-section was measured using Micromegas detectors at the Experimental Area 2 of the n_TOF facility at CERN. For the measurement, the 235U(n,f) and 238U(n,f) reference reactions were used for the determination of the neutron flux. In the present work an overview of the experimental setup and the adopted data analysis techniques is given along with preliminary results.

Abstract
The electronic and magnetic properties of Mn2ZnSi(1−x)Gex (x = 0.0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375, 0.5, 0.625, 0.75, 0.875, and 1.0) inverse Heusler alloys and Mn2ZnSi/Mn2ZnGe superlattice have been investigated using first-principles calculations. All these alloys are stable in the fcc magnetic phase and satisfies the mechanical and thermal stability conditions as determined from the elastic constants and negative formation energy. The spin-polarized electronic band structures and the density of states indicate half-metallicity with 100% spin polarization at the Fermi energy level for x = 0.0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.50, and 1.0, with the integral values of the total magnetic moments per formula unit at their equilibrium lattice constants, following the Slater–Pauling rule. The electronic properties and the magnetic moments are mostly contributed by two Mn atoms and are coupled anti-parallel to each other, making them ferrimagnetic in nature. The presence of the half-metallic bandgap with an antiparallel alignment of Mn atoms makes these Heusler alloys a potential candidate for spintronic applications. Abstract
Background: Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disorder categorized by malignant transformation of a single stem cell of hematopoietic cells. microRNAs (miRNAs) belong to transcription regulators in hematopoiesis and their altered expression associates with pathogenesis of CML. Aim: Current study aimed to access the miR-21 expression profile in CML patients and therapy response as well as its prognostic significance. Methods: 100 CML cases, 100 controls were included in study and miR-21 expression was analyzed. Overall 9.22 mean fold increased expression was observed in CML patients before treatment. Results: Patients with different CML phases such as chronic phase, accelerated phase and blast crisis showed 7.16, 10.30 and 13.20 fold increased expression respectively. Overall 3.57 mean fold expression was observed in imatinib treated patients suggested more than 5 fold decreased expression in CML patients. Prognostic significance was calculated and observed that miR-21 expression at 7.29 fold cutoff, 75% sensitivity and 50% specificity was observed (AUC=0.75, p<0.0001). Study observed miR-21 overexpression in CML patients as well as gradually increased expression with advancement of disease. Conclusion: miR-21 overexpression represented molecular prognostic marker and predictive tool enabling efficient monitoring of drug response and therapy outcomes in CML patients.

Abstract
Abstract
Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) has a typical progressive course with transition from a less aggressive chronic phase to a terminal more aggressive blast crisis. The molecular mechanisms leading to CML disease progression remain to be elucidated. However, it has been proposed in many studies that alterations in the methylation status of various genes may contribute to the progression of different malignancies. Hence, in this study we tried to understand the role of aberrant methylation of six tumor suppressor genes in the disease progression and molecular response in CML.
We investigated 100 CML patients and 100 age and sex matched healthy controls for the methylation status of six tumor suppressor genes. The methylation status of these genes was evaluated by MS-PCR.
In this study, 100 CML samples and 100 controls were analyzed for the DAPK1, RASSF1A, RIZ-1, p16, p14ARF and SOCS-1 promoter methylation status. These genes, except p14ARF and SOCS-1 showed significant differences in methylation status among CML patients and healthy controls. Also DAPK1, RASSF1A, RIZ-1, p16 and p14ARF genes were observed to be hypermethylated during progression of CML disease to advanced phases. The methylation frequencies of these five genes were seen to increase progressively during CML disease progression. This increase in hypermethylation of these five genes from was statistically significant with a p-value of <0.0001, 0.001, 0.009,0.002 and 0.01 respectively. Although, there was a progressive increase in the promoter methylation of SOCS1 gene during the CML disease progression (CP= 4%, AP=8% and BC=16%) but this did not reached a statistical significance (p-value 0.1).
We also assessed the molecular response of these 100 CML patients after imatinib therapy and the patients were categorized into two groups; major molecular response group and loss of molecular response group. Out of 100 CML patients on imatinib therapy 52 achieved major molecular response while 48 patients showed loss of molecular response. Out of the above studied genes RASSF1 and RIZ1 promoter hypermethylation was significantly associated with loss of molecular response in CML patients receiving imatininb therapy. Out of 48 CML patients who were in loss of molecular response, 23.0% and 16.77% showed promoter hypermethylation of RASSF1 and RIZ1 genes respectively while out of 52 patients that were in major molecular response only 9.6% and 1.92% of patients showed hypermethylation in RASSF1 and RIZ1 genes respectively.
These results suggest that hypermethylation of tumor suppressor genes plays a significant role in the progression and response in CML.

Abstract
233U is of key importance among the fissile nuclei in the Th-U fuel cycle. A particularity of 233U is its small neutron capture cross-section, which is on average about one order of magnitude lower than the fission cross-section. The accuracy in the measurement of the 233U capture cross-section depends crucially on an efficient capture-fission discrimination, thus a combined set-up of fission and γ-detectors is needed. A measurement of the 233U capture cross-section and capture-to-fission ratio was performed at the CERN n_TOF facility. The Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC) of n_TOF was employed as γ-detector coupled with a novel compact ionization chamber as fission detector. A brief description of the experimental set-up will be given, and essential parts of the analysis procedure as well as the preliminary response of the set-up to capture are presented and discussed.

Abstract
Exposure to persistent organic pollutants including dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) induces insulin resistance. But the mechanism is not clearly known. The present study was designed to explore the effect of subtoxic DDT exposure on (1) insulin-stimulated glucose uptake, (2) malondialdehyde (MDA) level and total antioxidant content, (3) activation of redox sensitive kinases (RSKs), and (4) insulin signaling in rat L6 myoblast-derived myotubes. Exposure to 30 mg/L and 60 mg/L of DDT for 18 hours dose dependently decreased glucose uptake and antioxidant content in myotubes and increased MDA levels. The exposures did not alter tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) level as determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, despite decreased messenger RNA expression following DDT exposures. Phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinases and IκBα, an inhibitory component of nuclear factor κB (NFκB), was increased, suggesting activation of RSKs. The level of tyrosine phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate 1 and serine phosphorylation of protein kinase B (Akt) on insulin stimulation decreased in myotubes with exposure to subtoxic concentrations of DDT, but there was no change in tyrosine phosphorylation level of insulin receptors. We conclude that subtoxic DDT exposure impairs insulin signaling and thereby induces insulin resistance in muscle cells. Data show that oxidative stress-induced activation of RSKs is responsible for impairment of insulin signaling on DDT exposure.

Abstract
The influence of Estrogen Receptor 1 (ESR1) gene -397T>C (PvuII) and -351A>G (XbaI) polymorphisms on the risk of development of coronary artery disease (CAD) in the north Indian population was analysed. We hypothesized that ESR1 gene polymorphisms may influence the susceptibility to CAD through variation in Estrogen Receptor α (ERα) expression. To assess this concept, we evaluated ERα mRNA expression in blood plasma of CAD patients. The study included hundred CAD patients who showed presence of greater than 50% luminal stenosis in at least one major coronary artery in angiography along with hundred age and sex matched healthy controls. The ESR1 polymorphisms were investigated by PCR-RFLP. Quantitative Real Time PCR was carried out for the measurement of ERα mRNA expression. The results showed that genotypic frequencies of ESR1 -397T>C and -351A>G gene polymorphisms were significantly higher in CAD patients than control subjects (p < 0.0001). A significantly increased CAD risk was also found in dominant and codominant inheritance model for both of the SNPs. In gender based analysis these findings were replicated only in male subgroup. In case of -397T>C polymorphism, the ERα mRNA expression was highest in CAD patients with wild type homozygous TT genotype (2-∆ct = 0.28). A mutant 'C' allele, dose dependent, significant decrease in trend in ERα mRNA expression was observed, with lowest expression in mutant homozygous CC genotype (2-∆ct = 0.09), and intermediate expression level in heterozygous TC genotype (2-∆ct = 0.14) subgroups of CAD patients. In conclusion, this study demonstrates a significantly heightened risk of CAD associated with the inheritance of mutant genotypes of ESR1 -397T>C and -351A>G gene polymorphisms, in the north Indian population. This is the first report of a lowered ERα mRNA expression in conjunction with the presence of mutant 'C' allele of ESR1 -397T>C polymorphism with consequent increased CAD susceptibility.

Abstract
Background: The epidermal growth factor receptor 1 (EGFR1) plays a significant role in cell proliferation and
development. Its regulation in humans is very critical and incompletely understood in Non small cell lung cancer
(NSCLC). Methods: 100 newly diagnosed NSCLC (lung adenocarcinoma) patients and 100 healthy controls were
included and allele specific (AS) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to genotype and expression was analyzed
by quantitative real time PCR. Overall survival of patients was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method and for prognostic
significance ROC curve was plotted. Results: A statistically significant difference (p<0.0001) in CC, AA and CA
genotypes distribution among patients and healthy controls was observed. Compared to the CC genotype as reference,
OR was 30.40 (95%CI 1.75- 524.9, p=0.0002) and 3.97 (95%CI 1.49-10.52, p=0.003) for the homozygous AA and
heterozygous CA genotypes respectively. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was also performed to analyze the relationship
of EGFR1 (-191C/A) genotypes with progression free median survival of NSCLC patients and the difference was
found to be significantly (p=0.0002) associated with different genotypes. In the ROC curve with respect to TNM stage
at optimal cut-off value of 9.88 fold increase in EGFR1 mRNA expression, sensitivity and specificity were 92.9%,
83.3% respectively (AUC=0.95, p<0.0001). ROC curve w.r.t. distant metastases at optimal cut-off value of 13.5 fold
change EGFR1 mRNA expression, sensitivity and specificity were 68.2%, 71.4% respectively (AUC=0.81, p<0.0001).
In ROC curve w.r.t to presence/ absence of pleural effusion at optimal cut-off value of 14.8 fold change EGFR1
mRNA expression sensitivity and specificity were 66.7%, 68.2% respectively (AUC=0.71, p=0.009). Conclusions:
Study concluded EGFR1 promoter polymorphism could be a risk factor associated with disease and may be used as
prognostic marker for patients’ survival and predictor for disease worseness.

Abstract
The ITER Electron Cyclotron Emission (ECE) diagnostic is progressing towards its Preliminary Design Review (PDR). In parallel, the diagnostic integration in the Equatorial Port is ongoing. Port Integration has to address the structural integrity to withstand various loads, maintenance and the safety aspects of ECE diagnostic. The ITER ECE system includes radial and oblique lines-of-sight. Recently, a successful peer-review of the in-port plug Hot Calibration Source has taken place and its performance and integration feasibility has been demonstrated. Four 45-meter long low-loss transmission lines are designed to transmit mm-wave power in the frequency range of 70- 1000 GHz in both X- and O-mode polarization from the port plug to the ECE instrumentation room in the diagnostic building. Prototype transmission lines are being tested [1]. A prototype polarizing Martin-Puplett type Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) operating in the frequency range 70-1000 GHz, has a fast scanning mechanism and a cryo-cooled dual-channel THz detector system. Its performance has been tested as per ITER requirements. Assessment of the instrumentation and control requirements, functional and non-functional requirements, operation procedures, plant automation are ongoing for the PDR. The current status of the diagnostic, together with integration activities, is presented.

Abstract
Since its start in 2001 the n_TOF collaboration developed a measurement program on fission, in view of advanced fuels in new generation reactors. A special effort was made on measurement of cross sections of actinides, exploiting the peculiarity of the n_TOF neutron beam which spans a huge energy domain, from the thermal region up to GeV. Moreover fission fragment angular distributions have also been measured. An overview of the cross section results achieved with different detectors is presented, including a discussion of the 237Np case where discrepancies showed up between different detector systems. The results on the anisotropy of the fission fragments and its implication on the mechanism of neutron absorption, and in applications, are also shown.
