Abstract
Pseudo-aneurysm of the brachial artery is relatively rare condition affecting the arterial vessels of the limbs. It can be due to trauma, infections or systemic vasculitis. We report a patient with aplastic anemia who developed pseudoaneurysm of the brachial artery following an episode of bacterial sepsis. Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was isolated on blood culture. Patient was treated with systemic antibiotics and underwent embolization of the pseudo-aneurysm. He later developed vascular insufficiency of the forearm and a stent had to be placed in the brachial artery at the site of calcified thrombus inside the pseudo-aneurysm to produce the patency of the artery and ensure adequate blood flow to forearm and hand.

Abstract
An optimized empirical pseudopotential method (EPM) in conjunction with virtual crystal approximation (VCA) and the compositional disorder effect is used for simulation to extract the electronic material parameters of wurtzite nitride alloys to ensure excellent agreement with the experiments. The proposed direct bandgap results of group-III nitride alloys are also compared with the different density functional theories (DFT) based theoretical results. The model developed in current work, significantly improves the accuracy of calculated band gaps as compared to the ab-initio method based results. The physics of carrier transport in binary and ternary nitride materials is investigated with the help of in-house developed Monte Carlo algorithms for solution of Boltzmann transport equation (BTE) including nonlinear scattering mechanisms. Carrier–carrier scattering mechanisms defined through Coulomb-, piezoelectric-, ionized impurity-, surface roughness-scattering with acoustic and intervalley scatterings, all have been given due consideration in present model. The direct and indirect energy bandgap results have been calibrated with the experimental data and use of symmetric and asymmetric form factors associated with respective materials. The electron mobility results of each binary nitride material have been compared and contrasted with experimental results under appropriate conditions and good agreement has been found between simulated and experimental results.

Abstract
Abstract
Single-agent regorafenib is approved in Canada and in the US for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) who have failed previous lines of therapy1. Identification of prognostic biomarkers is crucial to ensure the best therapeutic strategies for mCRC patients. The goal of this clinical study (NCT01949194) was to explore putative molecular signatures of response and resistance to regorafenib in metastatic tumors and serial blood samples. We used a multi-omics approach to profile metastatic tumor tissues and serial blood samples from 47 mCRC patients who received single-agent regorafenib as second-line therapy after failing first-line therapy with an oxaliplatin or irinotecan-containing regimen with or without bevacizumab. Whole exome sequencing was performed to assess both the mutational and copy number (CN) landscapes of metastatic tissues from 29 patients and the transcriptome was interrogated using RNA sequencing. A 14-gene panel was used to profile serial plasma samples. Molecular aberrations were then correlated with lesion-specific treatment response using RECIST 1.1 and progression free survival (PFS) to investigate potential associations.The copy number aberration (CNA) landscape of metastatic tumors was assessed using Nexus Copy Number Software and 20 significant focal aberrations were identified using Genomic Identification of Significant Target in Cancer (GISTIC) test (q-bound<0.05). We interrogated all CNA regions across the genome using the log-rank statistic test and identified 38 CNA regions associated with PFS (permutated p-value <0.05). Interestingly, CN gains targeting three genes, GPR52, PTGS2 and MYC, classified within the drug resistance gene category in the drug-interaction database (DGIdb), were associated with a shorter PFS (Kaplan Meier analysis). The mutational landscape showed typical mutation rates for the top 5 driver genes: APC, KRAS, BRAF, PIK3CA and TP53. However, KRAS mutations in exons 12 and 13 appeared enriched in intrinsically resistant lesions compared to stable and acquired resistance lesions (83% versus 41%). At the transcriptome level, three main pathways were associated with intrinsic resistance (TGF-β signaling activation and MAPK activation) and shorter PFS (adherens junction). The profiling of plasma samples showed a higher proportion of samples with non-detectable ctDNA in patients exhibiting longer PFS (PFS ≥ 9 months, 70%) compared to patients with shorter PFS (< 9 months, 18%). Abstract
In this work, a bioresorbable Mg-ZKQX6000 (Mg-6Zn-0.6Zr-0.4Ag-0.2Ca (wt%)) alloy was severely plastically deformed via equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) according to three unique hybrid routes at low temperatures (200 °C to 125 °C). The roles of ECAP processing on microstructure, and ensuing mechanical properties and corrosion rates, are assessed. Microstructurally, ECAP induces a complex plethora of features, especially variations in grain sizes and precipitates' sizes, distributions, and morphologies for individual cases. Mechanically, ECAP generally refined grain size, resulting in ultra-high strength levels of about 400 MPa in ultimate tensile strength for several cases; however, deformation via ECAP of precipitates induced embrittlement and low elongation to failure levels. Corrosion testing, conducted in simulated bodily fluid at bodily pH levels to mimic conditions in the human body, revealed consistent corrosion rates across several techniques (mass loss, hydrogen evolution, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)), showing that severe plastic deformation deteriorates corrosion resistance for this material. In-situ corrosion monitoring explained that corrosion accelerated after ECAP due to the creation of heterogeneous, anodic shear zones, which exhibited dense regions of refined grains and fine precipitates. Suggestions for future design and thermomechanical processing of Mg alloys for bioresorbable orthopedic implants are provided.

Abstract
The equatorial Congo has been recognized as the most active lightning chimney region in the Globe. Although the perturbation of tropospheric thunderstorms on the lower ionosphere has been noticed in the middle latitudes through their transient lightning electric fields or convective gravity waves, the effects on equatorial ionosphere and the horizontal extent of this perturbation remains a mystery because of the difficulties in extracting the effects due to the sporadic nature of the equatorial ionosphere. Here we present observational results showing solid evidence of deviations in ionospheric total electron content (TEC) and its direction of propagation associated with thunderstorms using the method of polynomial filtering, by utilizing the TEC measured from equatorial Global Positioning System (GPS) Receiver stations along the West African region-Congo Basin. The TEC deviations due to the thunderstorms were found to be mostly propagated in a specific direction from the point of the event, with the highest absolute peak TEC at ~±1.5 TECUs. The internal dynamics of the equatorial ionosphere have been found to be suppressed by large thunderstorm effects during the daytime, with negligible impact at night.

Abstract
The study utilized finite element method to determine displacements and stresses in a set of Pauwels Type III femoral neck fractures repaired using 3 techniques (cannulated screws (Triad), sliding hip screw (SHS), and a Hybrid (SHS + cannulated screws). The research found that shear displacement doubled between the 65° and 75° fracture angles regardless of fixation construct. The SHS alone was the least stable construct, with highest construct stresses and shear displacement along the fracture plane. The stability of the Hybrid and Triad constructs were similar, but stress in the Hybrid was lower suggesting it would provide a higher load to failure than the Triad.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) develops in ~30% of patients with psoriasis. The diagnosis of PsA is challenging, and there are no reliable molecular markers in clinical use. MicroRNAs are short non-coding regulatory RNAs, which can be actively packaged into extracellular vesicles (EVs) and secreted to the circulation. OBJECTIVES To explore whether plasma-derived EV microRNAs may serve as biomarkers for PsA in patients with psoriasis. METHODS Plasma samples were obtained from patients with cutaneous-only psoriasis (PsC) and patients with psoriasis and PsA. Plasma EVs were isolated using miRCURY™ Exosome Isolation Kit. RNA sequencing was used to identify differentially expressed EV miRNAs in the discovery phase (PsC, n = 15; PsA, n = 14). In the validation phase (PsC, n = 29; PsA, n = 28), 41 selected miRNAs were analysed in plasma EVs by qPCR. The association of the identified miRNAs with PsA was assessed by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS RNA sequencing identified 19 plasma EV miRNAs with significantly different levels between PsA and PsC in the discovery cohort. Significantly lower levels of plasma EV let-7b-5p and miR-30e-5p in PsA vs. PsC were confirmed in the validation cohort, and their decreased levels were found to be associated with the presence of PsA. ROC analysis revealed an AUC of 0.68 (95% CI 0.53-0.83) for let-7b-5p and 0.69 (95% CI 0.55-0.84) for miR-30e-5p. CONCLUSIONS Circulating EV microRNA levels are altered in patients with PsA as compared with PsC. Findings of this exploratory study suggest that circulating EV microRNAs may serve as biomarkers for arthritis in psoriasis patients.

Abstract
The Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model was applied to seven paired, nested watersheds within the Mica Creek Experimental Watershed located in northern Idaho, USA. The goal was to evaluate the ability of WEPP to simulate the direct and cumulative effects of clear-cutting and partial-cutting (50% canopy removal) on water and sediment yield. WEPP was modified to better represent changes in the Leaf Area Index during post-harvest forest vegetative recovery. Good agreement between simulated and observed streamflow was achieved with minimal to no calibration over a 16-year (1992-2007) period. For the seven watersheds and the entire study period, the overall Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE), Kling-Gupta efficiency (KGE), and deviation of runoff volume (DV) between observed and simulated daily streamflow ranged 0.58-0.71, 0.67-0.81, and -4% to 9%, respectively. Good agreement between predicted and observed suspended sediment yield was achieved through the calibration of a single channel critical shear stress parameter. For sediment yield, NSE, KGE, and DV ranged 0.62-0.97, 0.43-0.97, and -2% to 2%, respectively, for the calibration period, and 0.61-0.93, 0.42-0.95, and -24% to 13%, respectively, for the period of model performance assessment. Regression analysis of observed- and WEPP-simulated increase in water and sediment yield following clear-cut treatment was similar; however, the WEPP-simulated increase was lower compared to observations particularly from the partial-cut watershed. The variability in the critical shear parameter for different stream channels in the study watersheds was directly related to the observed mean particle size on the stream bed and suggests that applications of the WEPP model in ungauged basins could potentially set the critical shear parameter based on particle size. Overall, the simulated results demonstrate the potential of WEPP as a modeling tool for forestland watershed management, particularly for estimating the effects of forest harvest on hydrograph fluctuations and consequently, stream sediment transport.

Abstract
The interaction of the GAF protein with the promoters of neuron-specific genes during activation and repression of transcription was studied. We showed that, while the Su(Hw) protein remains stably associated with the promoters of these genes at different transcriptional state, the GAF protein level is significantly higher when transcription is activated.
