Abstract
Rhinogobius candidianus is a freshwater goby distributed in north, northwest, west, and south Taiwan, but this species has been introduced to east Taiwan and became dominant. To investigate its native population genetic diversity and structure and evaluate the sources and diversity of translocated populations, the mitochondrial DNA control region and cytochrome b gene (1981 bp) from 220 specimens were analyzed. These results indicated that (1) the east populations originated from two sources in west Taiwan; (2) translocated populations exist in east Taiwan and south Taiwan; (3) many populations have likely been moved secondarily by human intervention; (4) the effective size of the populations had declined greatly; (5) within the native populations, the ancestral populations colonized Taiwan during the land bridge phase in the Pleistocene through north Taiwan; (6) the landform changes in Taiwan shaped the population structure; and (7) the landforms of the coastline during glaciation also shaped the native range. The low-level genetic diversity, high population differentiation, and population decline greatly suggest the need for resource management and conservation interventions. Four clades (α-δ) should be managed as four distinct evolutionarily significant units, while the translocated populations should be managed as separate management units. Moreover, the translocated populations in east Taiwan should be evaluated and monitored carefully.

Abstract
Energy carrier evolution is crucial for material performance. Ultrafast microscopy has been widely applied to visualize the spatiotemporal evolution of energy carriers. However, direct imaging of a small amount of energy carriers on the nanoscale remains difficult due to extremely weak transient signals. Here, we present a method for ultrasensitive and high-throughput imaging of energy carrier evolution in space and time. This method combines femtosecond pump-probe techniques with interferometric scattering microscopy (iSCAT), named Femto-iSCAT. The interferometric principle and unique spatially modulated contrast enhancement enable the exploration of new science. We address three important and challenging problems: transport of different energy carriers at various interfaces, heterogeneous hot-electron distribution and relaxation in single plasmonic resonators, and distinct structure-dependent edge-state dynamics of carriers and excitons in optoelectronic semiconductors. Femto-iSCAT holds great potential as a universal tool for ultrasensitive imaging of energy carrier evolution in space and time.

Abstract
We have proposed, implemented and investigated a novel, efficient quantum emitter based on an atomic-sized Ag nanocluster in a plasmonic resonator. The quantum emitter enables the realization of: (1) ultra-bright fluorescence, (2) narrow-band emission down to 4 nm, (3) ultra-short fluorescence lifetime. The fluorescence cross-section of a quantum emitter is on the order of σ ∼ 10-14 cm2, which is comparable to the largest fluorescence cross-sections of dye molecules and quantum dots, and enables a light source with a record high intensity known only for plasmon nanolasers. The results presented suggest a unique method for fabricating nanoprobes with high brightness and wavelength-tunable spectrally narrow fluorescence, which is needed for multiplex diagnostics and detection of substances at extremely low concentrations.

Abstract
Sulfur dioxide (SO2) based gas therapy has received great attention recently. Nevertheless, it is still a challenge to fabricate a SO2 delivery system to achieve effective delivery and on-demand stimuli triggered release at tumor sites. Herein, a chain-shattering polymeric SO2 prodrug micelle system was fabricated for effective SO2 based gas therapy. First, an amphiphilic polymer (mPEG-P(HDI-DN)) was prepared by polycondensation of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether, hexamethylene diisocyanate and monomer containing SO2. mPEG-P(HDI-DN) can self-assemble into spherical micelles with a diameter of around 50-90 nm. Triggered release of SO2 from micelles can be achieved in the presence of GSH with the degradation of mPEG-P(HDI-DN) into small molecules. The in vitro experiment proved that mPEG-P(HDI-DN) micelles can enter into osteosarcoma cells and inhibit the growth of osteosarcoma cells by increasing the ROS level in cells. The in vivo experiments demonstrate that mPEG-P(HDI-DN) micelles can inhibit the growth of osteosarcoma effectively without obvious tissue toxicity. These results indicate that this chain-shattering polymeric SO2 prodrug micelle system is a promising candidate for effective SO2 based gas therapy.

Abstract
In recent years, Harpadon nehereus gradually become a dominant species with great potential for exploitation in the East China Sea, and it is worth investigating whether H. nehereus would tolerate cold stress to continue to expand into the colder northern waters. The molecular regulation level is favorable evidence to explore the cold tolerance of H. nehereus, a total of 6,650, 1,936, and 2,772 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in transcription regulation, and 4,409, 1,250, and 2,303 differential alternative splicing genes (DASGs) in alternative splicing regulation were identified in H. nehereus at 13, 15, and 17°C, respectively, importantly, 47 genes were identified as the key candidate genes for cold tolerance in H. nehereus. In transcription regulation, up-regulated DEGs were enriched in metabolic process terms and ribosome, spliceosome pathway, etc., while down-regulated DEGs were enriched in signal transduction terms, focal adhesion, proteoglycans in cancer pathway, etc., at 13, 15, and 17°C, respectively. In alternative splicing regulation, spliceosome, mRNA surveillance pathway, etc., were significantly enriched in DASGs. In a word, H. nehereus adapts to cold environments mainly through transcription and translation, transmembrane transport, protein modification, etc., while cold stress may also induce some diseases in H. nehereus.

Abstract
Inorganic metal chalcohalides are significant semiconductive materials for photovoltaics, photodetetion and infrared optics. Thus it is considerably rewarding to develop a new synthetic strategy to provide more degrees of freedom for atomic coordination to tune the optical and electronic properties of metal chalcohalides. In this work, the mixed-anion strategy is performed to synthesize two new metal chalcohalides Cs2InPS4X2 (X = Cl, Br) with mixed-anion structure by the reaction of InPS4 and CsX. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that they are isostructural and crystallize in the centrosymmetric space group P21/n, consisting of zero-dimensional structure [In2P2S8X4]4- (X = Cl, Br) built from tetrahedral [PS4]3- and octahedral [InS4X2]7- (X = Cl, Br) through edge-sharing, with Cs cations filling in intervening voids. The UV-vis-NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy measurement reveals that Cs2InPS4Cl2 and Cs2InPS4Br2 exhibit large optical bandgaps of 3.21 eV and 3.12 eV, respectively. The electronic structure calculations show that the bandgap mainly originates from the [InS4X2]7- (X = Cl, Br) mixed-anion groups. First-principles calculations indicate that the birefringence of Cs2InPS4Cl2 and Cs2InPS4Br2 is ∼0.08 and ∼0.05 at 2090 nm, respectively. Furthermore, thermal analysis reveals that the Cs2InPS4X2 (X = Cl, Br) are thermostable up to 400 °C. This discovery enriches the structural diversity of inorganic chalcohalides and provides an insight for the exploration of new semiconductive materials.

Abstract
Ecosystem structure determines material circulation, energy flow, and system function. Based on field investigation data in the Sanmen Bay, East China Sea from 2017 to 2018, ecological channel model was constructed by Ecopath, describing energy flow routes and functional characteristics of the Sanmen Bay ecosystem. Results showed that grazing food chain was the main energy circulation channel, and the trophic level of each functional group ranged from 1 to 3.80. Energy flow of the system was mainly concentrated in the first five levels, with an average energy conversion efficiency of 13.0%. Energy conversion efficiency was 12.8% and 14.5% from primary producers and debris, respectively. Connectance index (CI) and system omnivory index (SOI) were 0.40 and 0.24 respectively. Finn's cycling index (FIC) was 0.40, and Finn's mean path length (MPL) was 2.06. The ratio of total primary productivity to total respiration was 13.59. In conclusion, Sanmen Bay ecosystem was immature in material circulation and energy flow. This work is helpful to understand the structural and functional traits of coastal ecosystems in China.

Abstract
The Qilianyu cluster of the Xisha (Paracel) Islands has one of the few remaining green turtle Chelonia mydas rookeries in the China region. Genetic samples were obtained from dead green turtle embryos and hatchlings salvaged from post-hatched nests at Middle Island (n = 3), North Island (n = 9) and South Sand (n = 1) of the Qilianyu cluster in 2017-2019. The ~800 bp mitochondrial DNA control region was sequenced from the samples, and 5 haplotypes were identified belonging to 2 documented clades (clades III and VIII), including 2 new haplotypes (CmP243.1 and CmP244.1) and 3 previously reported haplotypes (CmP18.1, CmP19.1, CmP20.1). These results were combined with previously published mtDNA data for the Qilianyu cluster and nearby (~93 km) Yongle Islands indicating a lack of differentiation based on truncated 384 bp control region sequences (exact test, p = 0.0997; FST = 0.015, p = 0.2760), to represent a single Xisha Islands rookery. The rookery at the Xisha Islands was significantly differentiated (p < 0.01) from all 19 management units (MUs) documented in the Indo-Pacific and Japan regions, supporting recognition of the Xisha Islands rookery as a new independent MU. The results will help inform national and international conservation action plans by China and the countries around the South China Sea to protect green turtles in the West Pacific Ocean.

Abstract
Natural polysaccharide (NPH)-based injectable hydrogels have shown great potential for critical-sized bone defect repair. However, their osteogenic, angiogenic, and mechanical properties are insufficient. Here, MgO nanoparticles (NPs) were incorporated into a newly synthesized water-soluble phosphocreatine-functionalized chitosan (CSMP) water solution to form an injectable hydrogel (CSMP-MgO) via supramolecular combination between phosphate groups in CSMP and magnesium in MgO NPs to circumvent these drawbacks of chitosan-based injectable hydrogels. Water-soluble chitosan deviate CSMP was first synthesized by grafting methacrylic anhydride and phosphocreatine into a chitosan chain in a one-step lyophilization process. The phosphocreatine in this hydrogel not only provides sites to combine with MgO NPs to form supramolecular binding but also serves as the reservoir to control Mg2+ release. As a result, the lyophilized CSMP-MgO hydrogels presented a porous structure with some small holes in the pore wall, and the pore diameters ranged from 50 to 100 μm. The CSMP-MgO injectable hydrogels were restricted from swelling in DI water (lowest swelling ratio was 16.0 ± 1.1 g/g) and presented no brittle failure during compression even at a strain above 85% (maximum compressive strength was 195.0 kPa) versus the control groups (28.0 and 41.3 kPa for CSMP and CSMP-MgO (0.5) hydrogels), with regulated Mg2+ release in a stable and sustained manner. The CSMP-MgO injectable hydrogels promoted in vitro calcium phosphate (hydroxyapatite (HA) and tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP)) deposition in supersaturated calcium phosphate solution and presented no cytotoxicity to MC3T3-E1 cells; the CSMP-MgO hydrogel promoted MC3T3-E1 cell osteogenic differentiation with upregulation of BSP, OPN, and Osterix osteogenic gene expression and mineralization and HUVEC tube formation. Among them, CSMP-MgO (5) presented most of these properties. Moreover, this hydrogel (CSMP-MgO (5)) showed an excellent ability to promote new bone formation in critical-sized calvarial defects in rats. Thus, the CSMP-MgO injectable hydrogel shows great promise for bone regeneration.

Abstract
The continuous exploration of multinary chalcogenide semiconductors has provided a variety of new functional materials. In this paper, four new quaternary chalcogenides AHgPS4 (A+ = Na+, K+, Rb+, Cs+) have been prepared by solid-state syntheses. These findings complement the lack of research on this quaternary system. Influenced by the size effect of cations and the coordination mode of Hg, the four compounds crystallize in four different space groups [NaHgPS4, P4̅n2; KHgPS4, Pnn2; RbHgPS4, P21/n; CsHgPS4, P212121] and show an interesting evolution from a 3D framework structure to a 1D chain structure. Moreover, all of these compounds feature noncentrosymmetric (NCS) structures except for RbHgPS4. The materials exhibit wide band gaps of 2.7 eV < Eg < 3.0 eV. The NCS- related second-harmonic-generation (SHG) property of NaHgPS4 and KHgPS4 was also studied. They display strong powder SHG responses (3.14 × AgGaS2 for NaHgPS4; 4.15 × AgGaS2 for KHgPS4), which indicate their intriguing potential as IR nonlinear-optical materials. Moreover, first-principles theoretical calculations were performed to understand the structure-property relationships of these materials.

Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of supplementing hydroxy selenomethionine (OH-SeMet) on performance, selenium (Se) deposition in the breast muscle, quality and oxidative stability, and expression of selenoprotein encoding genes of breast meat of the native slow-growing yellow-feathered broiler birds. A total of 375 one-day-old local yellow male birds were randomly assigned into 5 dietary treatments, supplemented with Se 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 mg/kg in the form of OH-SeMet. Each treatment consisted of 5 replicates and each replicate had 15 birds, the birds were fed on basal diet containing corn and soybean meal, and the experiment lasted for 63 d. The results showed that dietary Se supplementation linearly increased (P < 0.001) Se contents in both serum and muscle, no significant changes (P > 0.05) were observed on growth performance, yield of breast, meat color, and intramuscular fat deposition of the breast muscle. Dietary Se addition improved water-holding capacity, the pH24h value, and tenderness of breast muscle, evidenced by a linear decreases of shear force (P < 0.05), accompanied by lower thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and higher glutathione reductase activity. The mRNA abundance of selenoprotein encoding genes also responded to dietary Se levels. It is concluded that, dietary supplementation with OH-SeMet improved muscular Se deposition and meat quality of the native yellow birds, with enhanced antioxidant capability and regulation in selenogenome.

Here, a ternary Hg-based chalcogenide with a defect DL structure, Hg3P2S8, is synthesized by solid-state reaction. Driven by the highly distorted [HgS4] tetrahedra, this compound displays an interesting structural symmetry degradation from tetragonal to orthorhombic compared with its analogue Zn3P2S8. Meanwhile, the overall performances of Hg3P2S8 are quite remarkable, including a very strong phase-matchable second-harmonic generation (SHG) response (4.2 × AgGaS2), large band gap (2.77 eV), wide IR transparent range (0.45-16.7 μm), and high laser-induced damage threshold (4 × AGS). Furthermore, the theoretical analysis and local dipole moment calculations elucidate that the highly distorted [HgS4] tetrahedra contribute a lot to the enhancement of the SHG effect. This discovery will motivate the exploration of other DL Hg-based chalcogenides serving as high-performing mid-IR NLO materials.

Abstract
Freshwater biodiversity is currently under multiple threats. Conservation of freshwater fish biodiversity needs to be prioritized because natural conservation resources are always limited.Samples were collected at 24 sites in the Min River, the largest basin in southeastern China. Taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic diversity were analyzed. Biodiversity vulnerability was measured by removing one species each time out of the community with replacement. Results suggested that hotspots for taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity were located at two impounded sites, while for functional diversity were those sites with no upstream dams. Little congruence was observed between taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic diversity. Fragmentation of river network connectivity caused by dams was a significant factor affecting the biodiversity patterns. Beta turnover was the driving component for beta diversity, indicating that biodiversity dissimilarity along the river was mostly explained by environmental sorting. Fifteen out of 16 species that contributed the most to different facets of biodiversity were mostly endemic, either they had distinctive functional traits or they were the most prevalent species. Sites with the highest diversity vulnerability were characterized by these distinctive species. Functional diversity was more vulnerable to species loss comparing with the other two biodiversity facets.Prioritizing those biodiversity hotspots, sites with extreme functional vulnerability, and those distinctive endemic species which contributed the most to biodiversity vulnerability is suggested in the Min River. The study found evidence that congruence among different facets of biodiversity is hard to achieve, and functional diversity is the most vulnerable in a freshwater system fragmented by intensive dam constructions. This work will help to develop systematic conservation planning from the perspective of different biodiversity facets.

Quadruple-editing of the MAPK and PI3K pathways effectively blocks the progression of KRAS-mutated colorectal cancer cells. Cancer Sci 2021; 112:3895-3910. Abstract
Mutated KRAS promotes the activation of the MAPK pathway and the progression of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Aberrant activation of the PI3K pathway strongly attenuates the efficacy of MAPK suppression in KRAS‐mutated CRC. The development of a novel strategy targeting a dual pathway is therefore highly essential for the therapy of KRAS‐mutated CRC. In this study, a quadruple‐depleting system for the KRAS, MEK1, PIK3CA, and MTOR genes based on CRISPR/SaCas9 was developed. Adenovirus serotype 5 (ADV5) was integrated with two engineered proteins, an adaptor and a protector, to form ADV‐protein complex (APC) for systemic delivery of the CRISPR system. Quadruple‐editing could significantly inhibit the MAPK and PI3K pathways in CRC cells with oncogenic mutations of KRAS and PIK3CA or with KRAS mutation and compensated PI3K activation. Compared with MEK and PI3K/MTOR inhibitors, quadruple‐editing induced more significant survival inhibition on primary CRC cells with oncogenic mutations of KRAS and PIK3CA. The adaptor specifically targeting EpCAM and the hexon‐shielding protector could dramatically enhance ADV5 infection efficiency to CRC cells and significantly reduce off‐targeting tropisms to many organs except the colon. Moreover, quadruple‐editing intravenously delivered by APC significantly blocked the dual pathway and tumor growth of KRAS‐mutated CRC cells, without influencing normal tissues in cell‐ and patient‐derived xenograft models. Therefore, APC‐delivered quadruple‐editing of the MAPK and PI3K pathways shows a promising therapeutic potential for KRAS‐mutated CRC.
