Abstract
Exciton-polaritons in semiconductor microcavities have become a model system for the studies of dynamical Bose-Einstein condensation, macroscopic coherence, many-body effects, nonclassical states of light and matter, and possibly quantum phase transitions in a solid state. These low-mass bosonic quasiparticles can condense at comparatively high temperatures up to 300 K, and preserve the fundamental properties of the condensate, such as coherence in space and time domain, even when they are out of equilibrium with the environment. Although the presence of a confining potential is not strictly necessary in order to observe Bose-Einstein condensation, engineering of the polariton confinement is a key to controlling, shaping, and directing the flow of polaritons. Prototype polariton-based optoelectronic devices rely on ultrafast photon-like velocities and strong nonlinearities exhibited by polaritons, as well as on their tailored confinement. Nanotechnology provides several pathways to achieving polariton confinement, and the specific features and advantages of different methods are discussed in this review. Being hybrid exciton-photon quasiparticles, polaritons can be trapped via their excitonic as well as photonic component, which leads to a wide choice of highly complementary trapping techniques. Here, we highlight the almost free choice of the confinement strengths and trapping geometries that provide powerful means for control and manipulation of the polariton systems both in the semi-classical and quantum regimes. Furthermore, the possibilities to observe effects of the polariton blockade, Mott insulator physics, and population of higher-order energy bands in sophisticated lattice potentials are discussed. Observation of such effects could lead to realization of novel polaritonic non-classical light sources and quantum simulators.

Abstract
We investigate the dispersion properties of ridge Bragg-reflection waveguides to deduce their phasematching characteristics. These are crucial for exploiting them as sources of parametric down-conversion (PDC). In order to estimate the phasematching bandwidth we first determine the group refractive indices of the interacting modes via Fabry-Perot experiments in two distant wavelength regions. Second, by measuring the spectra of the emitted PDC photons, we gain access to their group index dispersion. Our results offer a simple approach for determining the PDC process parameters in the spectral domain, and provide important feedback for designing such sources, especially in the broadband case.

Abstract
CAPNS1 is essential for the stability and function of ubiquitous CAPN1 and CAPN2. Calpain modulates by proteolytic cleavage many cellular substrates and its activity is often deregulated in cancer cells, therefore calpain inhibition has been proposed as a therapeutical strategy for a number of malignancies. Here we show that CAPNS1 depletion is coupled to impairment of MCF7 and MCF10AT cell lines growth on plate and defective architecture of mammary acini derived from MCF10A cells. In soft agar CAPNS1 depletion leads to cell growth increase in MCF7, and decrease in MCF10AT cells. In both MCF7 and MCF10AT, CAPNS1 depletion leads to the enlargement of the stem cell compartment, as demonstrated by mammosphere formation assays and evaluation of stem cell markers by means of FACS and western blot analysis. Accordingly, activation of calpain by thapsigargin treatment leads to a decrease in the stem cell reservoir. The expansion of the cancer stem cell population in CAPNS1 depleted cells is coupled to a defective shift from symmetric to asymmetric division during mammosphere growth coupled to a decrease in NUMB protein level.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Psychomotor abnormalities characterize both unipolar (UP) depression and bipolar (BP) depression. We aimed to assess their neurobiological correlates in terms of motor activity (AL) and resting-state cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and investigate their association in BP, UP, and healthy controls (HC). METHOD We enrolled 42 depressed patients (22 BP, 20 UP) and 19 HC matched for age, gender, education, income. AL and rCBF were objectively assessed with the use of wrist actigraphy and arterial spin labeling. Group differences and the association of AL and rCBF were computed. RESULTS Activity level was significantly reduced in patients, but no difference was found between BP and UP. Increased perfusion was found in BP compared with UP and HC, in multiple brain areas. We found positive correlations of rCBF and AL in BP and UP, in different parts of the insula and frontal regions. Only BP showed a cluster in the left precentral gyrus. In HC, only inverse correlations of AL and rCBF were found. CONCLUSION The differences in rCBF and in the localization of the clusters of positive AL/rCBF correlations between BP and UP suggest that different neural impairments may underlie motor symptoms in the two disorders, but finally converge in phenotypically similar manifestations.

Abstract
We show that, by monitoring the free carrier reservoir in a GaAs-based quantum well microcavity under nonresonant pulsed optical pumping, lasing supported by a fermionic reservoir (photon lasing) can be distinguished from lasing supported by a reservoir of bosons (polariton lasing). Carrier densities are probed by measuring the photocurrent between lateral contacts deposited directly on the quantum wells of a microcavity that are partially exposed by wet chemical etching. We identify two clear thresholds in the input-output characteristic of the photoluminescence signal which can be attributed to polariton and photon lasing, respectively. The power dependence of the probed photocurrent shows a distinct kink at the threshold power for photon lasing due to an increased radiative recombination of free carriers as stimulated emission into the cavity mode sets in. At the polariton lasing threshold, on the other hand, the nonlinear increase of the luminescence is caused by stimulated scattering of exciton polaritons to the ground state which do not contribute directly to the photocurrent.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The evidence for using combination antimicrobial therapy (CoRx) in Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) is limited. We aimed to investigate whether CoRx is associated with higher survival or lower SAB-related late complications. METHODS We performed a post hoc analysis of a prospective SAB cohort study. CoRx was defined as a cell wall-active antistaphylococcal agent plus either rifampicin, a fluoroquinolone, fosfomycin or an aminoglycoside. To adjust for survivor bias multivariable Cox models that included CoRx as a time-dependent covariable were calculated. RESULTS Of 964 evaluable patients, 512 (53%) received CoRx, most of them (301/512, 59%) rifampicin-containing CoRx. All-cause mortality after 30 and 90 days was similar for the two groups, although the patients in the CoRx group had more often endocarditis, deep-seated or disseminated infections and severe sepsis/septic shock. For the entire cohort, only age, comorbidity and severe sepsis/septic shock were associated with a higher mortality and infectious disease consultation, but not CoRx with a lower mortality. However, in the subgroup of patients with implanted foreign bodies or devices CoRx was independently associated with a lower mortality at 30 days (hazard ratio 0.6, 95% confidence interval 0.3-1.1) and at 90 days (hazard ratio 0.6, 95% confidence interval 0.4-0.9). SAB-related late complications in this subgroup occurred in 15 (10.6%) of 142 patients in the monotherapy group vs. nine (4.5%) of 202 patients in the CoRx group (p 0.03). CONCLUSIONS In a setting of optimized management of adult patients with SAB secured by infectious disease consultations, this observational study could not prove CoRx to be independently associated with improved survival or reduced late complications in the entire cohort. However, administration of CoRx may be associated with lower mortality and fewer SAB-related late complications in the subgroup of patients with implanted foreign bodies or devices. Prospective randomized trials should be performed to prove this benefit.

Abstract
We demonstrate, experimentally and theoretically, a Talbot effect for hybrid light-matter waves-an exciton-polariton condensate formed in a semiconductor microcavity with embedded quantum wells. The characteristic "Talbot carpet" is produced by loading the exciton-polariton condensate into a microstructured one-dimensional periodic array of mesa traps, which creates an array of phase-locked sources for coherent polariton flow in the plane of the quantum wells. The spatial distribution of the Talbot fringes outside the mesas mimics the near-field diffraction of a monochromatic wave on a periodic amplitude and phase grating with the grating period comparable to the wavelength. Despite the lossy nature of the polariton system, the Talbot pattern persists for distances exceeding the size of the mesas by an order of magnitude. Thus, our experiment demonstrates efficient shaping of the two-dimensional flow of coherent exciton polaritons by a one-dimensional "flat lens."

Abstract
The stability of UiO-67 has been questioned for some time. We have used solid-state NMR to investigate the temporal stability of this MOF. Proper activation is necessary to achieve optimal surface area. However, even with proper activation, the long-term (30+ days) fate of UiO-67 is hydrolysis of the linker-metal bonds and, ultimately, pore collapse.

Abstract
Although seminaphtorhodafluor (SNARF) dyes are already widely used to measure pH in cells and at biofilms, their synthesis has low yield and results in an unspecific position of a carboxy-group. The separation of 5'- and 6'-carboxy-SNARF reveals a pKa difference of 0.15, calling into question pH measurements with the (commercially available) mixture. Here we replace the bulky external dicarboxyphenyl ring with a propionate group and evaluate the spectral properties of the new derivative. Proceeding to the ethyl-iodoacetamide, covalent linkage to cysteine protein sites is achieved efficiently as shown with a cyanobacterial phytochrome, extending the scarce application of SNARF in bio-labelling in the current literature. Application in fluorescence lifetime imaging is demonstrated both with the lifetime-based and ratiometric-yield method.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to prospectively assess the rectal carriage rate of third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (3GCREB) in non-ICU patients on hospital admission and to investigate resistance mechanisms and risk factors for carriage. METHODS Adult patients were screened for 3GCREB carriage at six German tertiary care hospitals in 2014 using rectal swabs or stool samples. 3GCREB isolates were characterized by phenotypic and molecular methods. Each patient answered a questionnaire about potential risk factors for colonization with MDR organisms (MDROs). Univariable and multivariable risk factor analyses were performed to identify factors associated with 3GCREB carriage. RESULTS Of 4376 patients, 416 (9.5%) were 3GCREB carriers. Escherichia coli was the predominant species (79.1%). ESBLs of the CTX-M-1 group (67.3%) and the CTX-M-9 group (16.8%) were the most frequent β-lactamases. Five patients (0.11%) were colonized with carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. The following risk factors were significantly associated with 3GCREB colonization in the multivariable analysis (P < 0.05): centre; previous MDRO colonization (OR = 2.12); antibiotic use within the previous 6 months (OR = 2.09); travel outside Europe (OR = 2.24); stay in a long-term care facility (OR = 1.33); and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) (OR = 1.22). CONCLUSIONS To our knowledge, this is the largest admission prevalence study of 3GCREB in Europe. The observed prevalence of 9.5% 3GCREB carriage was higher than previously reported and differed significantly among centres. In addition to previously identified risk factors, the treatment of GERD proved to be an independent risk factor for 3GCREB colonization.

Abstract
Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) is a single molecule based technique to temporally resolve rate-dependent processes by correlating the fluorescence fluctuations of individual molecules traversing through a confocal volume. In addition, chemical processes like protonation or intersystem crossing can be monitored in the sub-microsecond range. FCS thereby provides an excellent tool for investigations of protonation dynamics in proton pumps like cytochrome c oxidase (CcO). To achieve this, the pH-dependent fluorescent dye fluorescein was attached as a protonation probe to the CcO surface via site-specific labeling of single reactive cysteines that are located close to the entry point of a proton input channel (K-pathway). The analysis of protonation dynamics is complicated by overlapping triplet and protonation rates of the fluorophore. A Monte Carlo simulation based algorithm was developed to facilitate discrimination of these temporally overlapping processes thus allowing for improved protonation reaction rate determination. Using this simulation-guided approach we determined precise local proton association and dissociation rates and provide information about protein surface effects, such as proton collecting antennae, on the transport properties of proton transfer channels.

Abstract
Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP-1) can internalize proteases involved in cancer progression and is thus considered a promising therapeutic target. However, it has been demonstrated that LRP-1 is also able to regulate the endocytosis of membrane-anchored proteins. Thus, strategies that target LRP-1 to modulate proteolysis could also affect adhesion and cytoskeleton dynamics. Here, we investigated the effect of LRP-1 silencing on parameters reflecting cancer cells' invasiveness by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results show that LRP-1 silencing induces changes in the cells' adhesion behavior, particularly the dynamics of cell attachment. Clear alterations in morphology, such as more pronounced stress fibers and increased spreading, leading to increased area and circularity, were also observed. The determination of the cells' mechanical properties by AFM showed that these differences are correlated with an increase in Young's modulus. Moreover, the measurements show an overall decrease in cell motility and modifications of directional persistence. An overall increase in the adhesion force between the LRP-1-silenced cells and a gelatin-coated bead was also observed. Ultimately, our AFM-based force spectroscopy data, recorded using an antibody directed against the β1 integrin subunit, provide evidence that LRP-1 silencing modifies the rupture force distribution. Together, our results show that techniques traditionally used for the investigation of cancer cells can be coupled with AFM to gain access to complementary phenotypic parameters that can help discriminate between specific phenotypes associated with different degrees of invasiveness.

Abstract
Twelve high schools in Japan (of which six are in Fukushima Prefecture), four in France, eight in Poland and two in Belarus cooperated in the measurement and comparison of individual external doses in 2014. In total 216 high-school students and teachers participated in the study. Each participant wore an electronic personal dosimeter 'D-shuttle' for two weeks, and kept a journal of his/her whereabouts and activities. The distributions of annual external doses estimated for each region overlap with each other, demonstrating that the personal external individual doses in locations where residence is currently allowed in Fukushima Prefecture and in Belarus are well within the range of estimated annual doses due to the terrestrial background radiation level of other regions/countries.

Abstract
Two new Megalothorax species, Megalothorax potapovi sp. n. from the Russian Far East and Megalothorax sanguineus sp. n. from the French Pyrénées are described. The two new species have a set of morphological characters (including a smooth mucro) that places them among the minimus group sensu Schneider and D'Haese (2013). Megalothorax potapovi characteristics include dorsal protuberance on forehead, peculiar chaetotaxy of antenna III and strong lanceolate chaetae on body. Megalothorax sanguineus characteristics include strong red pigmentation, large network of integumentary channels on head and elongated apex of the two postero-distal spines of dens. The DNA barcodes (cytochrome oxidase subunit I-COI) of the two species are also provided and analyzed among a broader sampling of the genus in order to support further their specific status. A special focus is given to the labral morphological characteristics. Pseudopores-like elements are reported for the first time in the genus. Positions of the τ-chaetae near the dorsal sensory field of thorax II are compared for several species of the genus.

Abstract
Based on the interaction between different spatial modes, semiconductor Bragg-reflection waveguides (BRWs) provide a highly functional platform for non-linear optics. For achieving any desired quantum optical functionality, we must control and engineer the properties of each spatial mode. To reach this purpose we extend the Fabry-Perot technique and achieve a detailed linear optical characterization of dispersive multimode semiconductor waveguides. With this efficient broadband spectral method we gain direct experimental access to the relevant modes of our BRWs and determine their group velocities. Furthermore, we show that our waveguides have lower than expected loss coefficients. This renders them suitable for integrated quantum optics applications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Analyzing occluded segments with computed tomography angiography (CTA) prior to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) increased revascularization success in chronic total occlusions (CTO). The aim of our study was to develop a scoring system for the prediction of PCI success in CTO. MATERIALS AND METHODS 41 consecutive CTO patients (30 male; 63.1 years +/- 8.3 standard deviation) underwent CTA prior to PCI. All CTOs were categorized by two radiologists in consensus regarding the presence of special features and without knowledge of PCI outcome. All outcome criteria were evaluated. Afterwards one point was assigned for each unequally distributed outcome criteria per CTO and all points were added up to a single score. RESULTS Severe calcifications (failure group 68.8 % vs. success group 28.0 %; p < 0.02) and intraluminal calcifications (68.8 %; 40.0 %), tortuosity (25.0 %; 0 %; p < 0.02), linear intrathrombus enhancement (37.5 %; 60.0 %) and distal vessel disease (68.8 %; 44.0 %) were unequally distributed. By adopting a threshold of 4 points or higher (maximum 5 points), the results were: sensitivity 31.3 %, specificity 100 %, negative predictive value (NPV) 69.4 % and positive predictive value (PPV) 100 %. The PCI complication rate was 9.8 % and the mean contrast media amount was 234.4 ml. CONCLUSION With the suggested scoring system, based on five CTA criteria, PCI failure could be predicted with high PPV and specificity in our group of patients, but the NPV and sensitivity are low. However, 5 unsuccessful PCIs (13.2 %) could have been avoided and none would have been wrongly omitted. Regarding the complication rate during PCI and the high amounts of contrast media needed, a prediction system appears to be desirable and should be the object of large-scale trials. KEY POINTS Single predictors of revascularization success in CTO have been identified. Success rates are improved by analyzing CTA data sets prior to revascularization approaches. Prediction of revascularization success via a scoring system based on five CTA criteria seems promising. Patient selection for the right treatment options might be improved in the future due to application of the scoring system. Also risks, complications, contrast media amounts and radiation doses might be reduced.

Abstract
Decoding brain activity of corresponding highlevel tasks may lead to an independent and intuitively controlled Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). Most of today's BCI research focuses on analyzing the electroencephalogram (EEG) which provides only limited spatial and temporal resolution. Derived electrocorticographic (ECoG) signals allow the investigation of spatially highly focused task-related activation within the high-gamma frequency band, making the discrimination of individual finger movements or complex grasping tasks possible. Common spatial patterns (CSP) are commonly used for BCI systems and provide a powerful tool for feature optimization and dimensionality reduction. This work focused on the discrimination of (i) three complex hand movements, as well as (ii) hand movement and idle state. Two subjects S1 and S2 performed single `open', `peace' and `fist' hand poses in multiple trials. Signals in the high-gamma frequency range between 100 and 500 Hz were spatially filtered based on a CSP algorithm for (i) and (ii). Additionally, a manual feature selection approach was tested for (i). A multi-class linear discriminant analysis (LDA) showed for (i) an error rate of 13.89 % / 7.22 % and 18.42 % / 1.17 % for S1 and S2 using manually / CSP selected features, where for (ii) a two class LDA lead to a classification error of 13.39 % and 2.33 % for S1 and S2, respectively.

Abstract
Exciton-polaritons are hybrid light-matter quasiparticles formed by strongly interacting photons and excitons (electron-hole pairs) in semiconductor microcavities. They have emerged as a robust solid-state platform for next-generation optoelectronic applications as well as for fundamental studies of quantum many-body physics. Importantly, exciton-polaritons are a profoundly open (that is, non-Hermitian) quantum system, which requires constant pumping of energy and continuously decays, releasing coherent radiation. Thus, the exciton-polaritons always exist in a balanced potential landscape of gain and loss. However, the inherent non-Hermitian nature of this potential has so far been largely ignored in exciton-polariton physics. Here we demonstrate that non-Hermiticity dramatically modifies the structure of modes and spectral degeneracies in exciton-polariton systems, and, therefore, will affect their quantum transport, localization and dynamical properties. Using a spatially structured optical pump, we create a chaotic exciton-polariton billiard--a two-dimensional area enclosed by a curved potential barrier. Eigenmodes of this billiard exhibit multiple non-Hermitian spectral degeneracies, known as exceptional points. Such points can cause remarkable wave phenomena, such as unidirectional transport, anomalous lasing/absorption and chiral modes. By varying parameters of the billiard, we observe crossing and anti-crossing of energy levels and reveal the non-trivial topological modal structure exclusive to non-Hermitian systems. We also observe mode switching and a topological Berry phase for a parameter loop encircling the exceptional point. Our findings pave the way to studies of non-Hermitian quantum dynamics of exciton-polaritons, which may uncover novel operating principles for polariton-based devices.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common and relevant side effect of antineoplastic agents such as cisplatin, paclitaxel, vincristine and bortezomib. Over the last years, significant progress has been achieved in elucidating the underlying pathomechanisms of CIPN using both in vivo and in vitro models. These studies suggest that mitochondrial toxicity, disturbed axonal transport, toxic effects on Schwann cells and activation of the immune system contribute to the pathogenesis of CIPN. This review provides an overview of the current pathogenetic concepts of CIPN. In addition, experimental approaches that aim at preventing or ameliorating neurotoxic effects of antineoplastic agents are discussed.

Abstract
Chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) is a limiting factor for long-term survival in lung transplant recipients. Donor-specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-antibodies (DSA) have been suggested as potential risk factors for CLAD. However, their impact on clinical outcome following lung transplantation remains controversial. We performed a single-center study of 120 lung transplant recipients transplanted between 2006 and 2011. Patient sera were investigated before and after transplantation. The sera were screened by means of Luminex(®) technology (Luminex Inc., Austin, TX, USA) for IgG-HLA-class I and class II antibodies (ab). Using single antigen beads, DSA were identified and correlated retrospectively with clinical parameters. After transplantation 39 out of 120 patients (32.5%) were positive for HLA-ab. The incidence of de novo DSA formation was 27 of 120 patients (22.5%). Eleven of 27 (41%) of de novo DSA-positive patients developed BOS compared to 13 of 93 (14%) DSA-negative patients (p = 0.002). Furthermore, the generation of de novo DSA was independently associated with the development of BOS in multivariable analysis [hazard ration (HR) 2.5, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.0-6.08; p = 0.046). Our results indicate that de novo DSA are associated with the development of BOS after lung transplantation. Monitoring of HLA-ab after transplantation is useful for identifying high-risk patients and offers an opportunity for early therapeutic intervention.

Abstract
The prospect for spatial imaging with mass spectroscopy at the level of the cell requires new means of cell extraction to conserve molecular structure. To this aim, we demonstrate a new laser extraction process capable of extracting intact biological entities with conserved biological function. The method is based on the recently developed picosecond infrared laser (PIRL), designed specifically to provide matrix-free extraction by selectively exciting the water vibrational modes under the condition of ultrafast desorption by impulsive vibrational excitation (DIVE). The basic concept is to extract the constituent protein structures on the fastest impulsive limit for ablation to avoid excessive thermal heating of the proteins and to use strongly resonant 1-photon conditions to avoid multiphoton ionization and degradation of the sample integrity. With various microscope imaging and biochemical analysis methods, nanoscale single protein molecules, viruses, and cells in the ablation plume are found to be morphologically and functionally identical with their corresponding controls. This method provides a new means to resolve chemical activity within cells and is amenable to subcellular imaging with near-field approaches. The most important finding is the conserved nature of the extracted biological material within the laser ablation plume, which is fully consistent with in vivo structures and characteristics.

OBJECTIVE This paper presents first findings on the impact of the system on elderlies' lives. METHODS 41 end-users tested 'Confidence' for six weeks in their daily routine. Before and after the test period the participants assessed their quality of life (QoL). These assessments were analyzed together with additional QoL statements and the usage of 'Confidence' which were collected with questionnaires. RESULTS Six participants assessed their QoL after the trial better than before and six participants assessed it as worse. Five individuals felt that 'Confidence' positively influenced their life and these five testers had a positive attitude towards 'Confidence' from the start of the trial. After the trial 38 % of the participants said that they felt safer, 37 % communicated more with others, 27 % forgot less, 13 % felt better oriented outside, and 7 % were more on the move due to 'Confidence'. Three percent said that they were less on the move, two percent felt more unsafe and two percent were less outside. CONCLUSION 'Confidence' has the potential to affect elderly users' lives. However, within this analysis positive or negative effects of its usage were not correlated with the QoL assessment. A connection between positive attitude towards technology prior use and a positive impact afterwards was found.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) is a versatile diagnostic tool. One of its main advantages is the possibility of tissue characterization. T1-weighted images for scar and T2-weighted images for edema visualization are key methods for tissue characterization. Otherwise these sequences are strongly limited for the detection of diffuse myocardial pathologies. Recently, rapid technical innovations have generated new techniques. T1, T2 mapping and evaluation of the extracellular volume fraction (ECV) allow quantification of diffuse myocardial pathologies and showed great potential in the visualization of fibrosis, edema, amyloid, iron overload and lipid. In the future these techniques might enable the detection of early cardiac involvement, even act as a prognosticator. Moreover, therapy monitoring and follow-up might be possible due to versatile parameter quantification with these new techniques. KEY POINTS CMR allows for tissue characterization via T1- and T2-weighted sequences. In cases of diffuse, global myocardial pathologies, correct image interpretation with traditional CMR sequences might be difficult. T1, T2 mapping and ECV can quantify diffuse, global myocardial pathologies. Alterations of myocardial T1 and T2 relaxation times occur in various myocardial diseases (e.g. acute myocarditis). In the future mapping might act as a prognosticator or therapy monitoring tool.

Abstract
Catalytic decomposition of diazomalonates and other diazoesters using Rh(II)- and Cu(II)-complexes in the presence of α,β-unsaturated δ-(N-aryl)amino esters gives rise to the formation of multi-functionalized pyrrolidines with yields of up to 82%. The reaction apparently occurs as a domino process involving the initial N-ylide formation followed by intramolecular Michael addition to the conjugated system of amino esters to afford the pyrrolidine heterocycle. The whole process can also be classified as a [4 + 1]-annulation of the δ-amino α,β-unsaturated ester with the carbenoid intermediate.

Abstract
We report the first experimental demonstration of the interference-induced spectral line elimination predicted by Zhu and Scully [Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 388 (1996)] and Ficek and Rudolph [Phys. Rev. A 60, R4245 (1999)]. We drive an exciton transition of a self-assembled quantum dot in order to realize a two-level system exposed to a bichromatic laser field and observe the nearly complete elimination of the resonance fluorescence spectral line at the driving laser frequency. This is caused by quantum interference between coupled transitions among the doubly dressed excitonic states, without population trapping. We also demonstrate a multiphoton ac Stark effect with shifted subharmonic resonances and dynamical modifications of resonance fluorescence spectra by using double dressing.

Abstract
In this work, we combine a systematic experimental investigation of the power- and temperature-dependent evolution of the spatial coherence function, g^{(1)}(r), in a one dimensional exciton-polariton channel with a modern microscopic numerical theory based on a stochastic master equation approach. The spatial coherence function g^{(1)}(r) is extracted via high-precision Michelson interferometry, which allows us to demonstrate that in the regime of nonresonant excitation, the dependence g^{(1)}(r) reaches a saturation value with a plateau, which is determined by the intensity of the pump and effective temperature of the crystal lattice. The theory, which was extended to allow for treating incoherent excitation in a stochastic frame, matches the experimental data with good qualitative and quantitative agreement. This allows us to verify the prediction that the decay of the off-diagonal long-range order can be almost fully suppressed in one dimensional condensate systems.

Abstract
Lynch syndrome is the most frequent hereditary cancer syndrome, accounting for approximately 3-5 % of all colorectal cancers. In addition, it is the most frequent predisposing hereditary cause of endometrial cancer and is also associated with gastric cancer, ovarian cancer, cancer of the urinary tract as well as several other cancers. In clinical practise Lynch syndrome is frequently not detected and many clinicians admit uncertainties regarding diagnostic procedures. Also, counselling of patients is considered difficult regarding therapeutic - especially prophylactic surgical and chemopreventive options and recommendations. Based on a review of available literature we discuss optimized strategies for improved detection of suspected Lynch syndrome patients. The aim of this review is to establish a clinical algorithm of how to proceed on a diagnostic level and to discuss surgical options at the time of a colorectal cancer. In order to identify patients with Lynch syndrome, family history should be ascertained and evaluated in regards to fulfilment of the Amsterdam-II- and/or the revised Bethesda criteria. Subsequently immunohistochemical staining for the mismatch-repair-genes, BRAF testing for MLH1 loss of expression, as well as testing for microsatellite instability in some, followed by genetic counselling and mutation analysis when indicated, is recommended. Pathological identification of suspected Lynch syndrome is readily feasible and straightforward. However, the need of performing these analyses in the tumor biopsy at the time of (gastroenterological) diagnosis of CRC neoplasia is essential, in order to offer patients the option of a prophylactically extended surgery and - as recommended in the German S3 guidelines - to discuss the option of a merely prophylactical hysterectomy and oophorectomy (if postmenopausal) in women. Close cooperation between gastroenterologists, pathologists and surgeons is warranted, so that patients may benefit from options of extended or prophylactically extended surgery at the time of diagnosis of a colorectal primary. Patients nowadays must be involved in informed decision-making regarding prophylactic or extended prophylactic surgery at the time of a colorectal primary. To date, however, limitations in daily clinical practise, the failure to assess family history and the lack of awareness of this important hereditary syndrome is the major asset leading to severe underdiagnosis and putting to risk the indexpatients themselves and their families to (metachronous) CRC and the associated extracolonic cancers. If at all tumors of patients fulfilling Bethesda criteria will be analysed for MSI in the surgical specimen and therefore Lynch syndrome patients are not given the opportunity to opt for extended surgery. In clinical experience the postoperative MSI-analysis is inconsistently performed - even if the Bethesda criteria are fulfilled - and in case of suspected Lynch syndrome genetically counselling is not consistently recommended. Therefore affected cancer patients are left unaware of their increased genetic risk and in average 3 high-risk gene carriers per family miss the opportunity to actively engage in the recommended screening program.
