Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Single-center retrospective study. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the monitoring rate, sensitivity and specificity of intraoperative monitoring (IOM) during removal of intradural extramedullary (IDEM) or epidural metastatic spinal tumors. Also, to assess the efficacy of monitoring somatosensory-evoked potentials (SSEP) when motor-evoked potentials (MEP) are not measurable. SETTING The Neuro-Oncology Clinic, National Cancer Center, Korea. METHODS Patients (n=101) with IDEM or epidural metastatic spinal tumors at the cord level underwent surgeries monitored with SSEP and/or MEP. The monitoring rate was defined as negative when MEP or SSEP could not be measured after reversal of the neuromuscular block under general anesthesia. Positive IOM changes included more than a 50% change in the MEP or SSEP amplitude and more than a 10% delay in SSEP latency. RESULTS MEP was measurable in 73% of patients. The MEP monitoring rate in patients with motor power grades of 3 or less was 39%, which was lower than that of SSEP (83%). The sensitivity, specificity and predictability of MEP for motor changes were 93, 90 and 91%, respectively. Conversely, the sensitivity, specificity and predictability of SSEP were 62, 97 and 89%, respectively. In patients in whom MEP was not measurable (n=24), SSEP was monitored with a predictability of 83%. CONCLUSION In cases of extramedullary spinal tumors, MEP shows a higher sensitivity than SSEP does. However, the monitoring rate of MEP in non-ambulatory patients was lower than that of SSEP. In those cases, SSEP can be useful to monitor for postoperative neurological deficits.

Abstract
Comprehensive measurements were conducted at the summit of Mount (Mt.) Huang, a rural site located in eastern China during the summer of 2011. They observed that ozone showed pronounced diurnal variations with high concentrations at night and low values during daytime. The Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) model was applied to simulate the ozone concentrations at Mt. Huang in June 2011. With processes analysis and online ozone tagging method we coupled into the model system, the causes of this diurnal pattern and the contributions from different source regions were investigated. Our results showed that boundary layer diurnal cycle played an important role in driving the ozone diurnal variation. Further analysis showed that the negative contribution of vertical mixing was significant, resulting in the ozone decrease during the daytime. In contrast, ozone increased at night owing to the significant positive contribution of advection. This shifting of major factor between vertical mixing and advection formed this diurnal variation. Ozone source apportionment results indicated that approximately half was provided by inflow effect of ozone from outside the model domain (O3-INFLOW) and the other half was formed by ozone precursors (O3-PBL) emitted in eastern, central, and southern China. In the O3-PBL, 3.0% of the ozone was from Mt. Huang reflecting the small local contribution (O3-LOC) and the non-local contributions (O3-NLOC) accounted for 41.6%, in which ozone from the southerly regions contributed significantly, for example, 9.9% of the ozone originating from Jiangxi, representing the highest geographical contributor. Because the origin and variation of O3-NLOC was highly related to the diurnal movements in boundary layer, the similar diurnal patterns between O3-NLOC and total ozone both indicated the direct influence of O3-NLOC and the importance of boundary layer diurnal variations in the formation of such distinct diurnal ozone variations at Mt. Huang.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: In New Mexico, Hispanic women have a 1.7-fold increased risk of breast cancer-specific death compared to non-Hispanic white women. In previous studies, race/ethnic minority women have had larger survival disparities in estrogen receptor positive (ER+) than ER- disease, suggesting some aspect of ER may mediate survival outcomes. We thus conducted an extensive assessment of ER quantitative measures.
Objective: To determine whether ER percent positive and intensity differs by ethnicity, and to evaluate whether that potential difference might account for a proportion of survival disparities.
Methods: We conducted a population-based case-cohort study of first invasive breast cancer diagnosed in white females from 1997-2009 in six NM counties, identified through Surveillance Epidemiology End Results (SEER). We selected 15% of breast cancer cases and all breast cancer deaths through 2012. After IRB approval, pathology reports and tissue microarrays served as sources of ER, PR, and Her2 information. Tumors were classified according to modified intrinsic subtypes based on immunohistochemistry. Data were analyzed using Cox proportional hazards models adapted for case-cohort with weighted estimates (cohort weighted by 6.67x), and estimated hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) using the robust variance and alpha=.05. The proportional hazards assumption was verified by Schoenfeld residuals. All analyses were adjusted for age. Interaction was assessed by inclusion of main effects and a product term (subtype* exposure).
Results: ER and intrinsic subtype information was available for 76% of the cohort (867/1143) and 70% of breast cancer deaths (689/991). Median follow up was 7.8 years. In analyses stratified by intrinsic subtype, Hispanic women experienced elevated mortality relative to non-Hispanic whites for luminal A (HR 1.9;95% CI 1.4-2.6), Luminal B (HR 2.9;95% CI 1.5-5.7), and TN tumors (HR 1.9;95% CI 1.0-3.6) but not Her2+ER- disease (HR 1.1;95% 0.3-3.4).
Overall ER Quantitative measures: Among ER+ women, breast cancer mortality decreased with increasing ER+ staining, measured by percent (p-trend=.004) or quartile (p-trend=.002). After adjustment for ER percent(ER%+), women with increased ER intensity (score>2) had reduced mortality, relative to score=1 (HR 0.6;95% CI 0.4-.1.0). Results did not differ by Luminal A or B subtype (p interaction> .05).
Ethnicity-specific ER quantitative measures: ER%+ distribution did not differ by Hispanic ethnicity. However, among Hispanic women, interaction terms for ER%+ (p=.04) or quartile (p=.08) by subtype in relation to breast cancer survival suggest that Hispanic women with increasing ER staining have a reduced risk of mortality in Luminal A but not Luminal B tumors. Such differences were not evident among non-Hispanic white women. In multivariate models, inclusion of ER%+ and staining intensity did not alter Hispanic survival disparity overall, but mediated 8.6% in Luminal B.
Conclusion: After inclusion of ER%+, ER staining intensity is an independent risk factor for breast cancer survival. Differences in ER quantitative measures appear to account for only a small proportion of survival disparities. Abstract
The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma has been increasing, and the comorbidity rates of these diseases are very high. Here, 176 AR patients, 124 patients with comorbid AR and asthma (AR-A) and 206 healthy Chinese children as controls were included in a case-control study. Six single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), miR-146a (rs2910164, rs57095329 and rs6864584), miR-196a2 (rs11614913), miR-499 (rs3746444) and miR-149 (rs2292832), were genotyped. The prevalence of homozygous miR-149 (rs2292832) CC genotype and C allele were considerably increased in AR and AR-A patients, compared with the controls. AR-A group showed higher frequencies of CC genotype and C allele of rs2292832 than AR group. No significant difference in the genotypic and allelic frequencies of other miRNA SNPs was found between the groups. MiR-149 levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were significantly lower in CC (variant type) cases compared with TT (wild-type) cases. In further experiments, PBMCs obtained from the healthy controls with CC, CT and TT genotypes were stimulated by house dust mite extracts, which led to a significant decrease in the levels of miR-149 in PBMCs obtained from CC and TT individuals. This decrease was more pronounced in CC compared with TT cases. Our results demonstrate that miR-149 rs2292832 variant is not only strongly associated with AR and AR-A, but it may lead to an increase in the susceptibility to allergies following the stimulation with an allergen, through the changes in miR149 expression. Additionally, AR patients with CC genotypes were shown to be more susceptible to asthma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sugammadex is a new agent that reverses neuromuscular blockade by aminosteroid neuromuscular blocker. This retrospective study compared the effects of sugammadex on post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) with those of a pyridostigmine-glycopyrrolate mixture. METHODS We reviewed the electronic medical records of 7179 patients who had received fentanyl-based, intravenous, patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) at Chung-Ang University Hospital between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2015. We categorized the patients into two groups on the basis of the type of reversal agent to neuromuscular blockade that was used: a traditional reversal agent (pyridostigmine-glycopyrrolate mixture; Group R; n = 7059) and sugammadex (Group S; n = 120). The propensity score matching method was then used to select 408 subjects in Group R and 115 subjects in Group S; on the basis of their covariates, these subjects were then matched with a counterpart in the other group. RESULTS After propensity score matching, the two groups were well balanced with respect to all baseline covariates. In Group S, the numeric rating scale of nausea on day 0, as well as the number of patients who vomited on day 0, was lower than that in group R. Furthermore, Group S used fewer rescue antiemetics on day 0 and had a higher complete response on day 0. CONCLUSION Sugammadex might be more beneficial for PONV compared to pyridostigmine-glycopyrrolate mixture for patients who have received opioid-based IV-PCA.

Abstract
We report on nonsequential double ionization of Ar by a laser pulse consisting of two counterrotating circularly polarized fields (390 and 780 nm). The double-ionization probability depends strongly on the relative intensity of the two fields and shows a kneelike structure as a function of intensity. We conclude that double ionization is driven by a beam of nearly monoenergetic recolliding electrons, which can be controlled in intensity and energy by the field parameters. The electron momentum distributions show the recolliding electron as well as a second electron which escapes from an intermediate excited state of Ar^{+}.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of fluoroquinolone resistance and mechanisms of selected fluoroquinolone resistance in Shigella flexneri isolates. A total of 624 S. flexneri strains isolated between 2001 and 2011 in Jiangsu Province of China were analysed for their fluoroquinolone susceptibility. The quinolone resistance-determining region of gyrA, gyrB, parC and parE were amplified and sequenced. In general, 90.5 % of S. flexneri exhibited resistance to nalidixic acid. The mean norfloxacin resistance rate was 22.4 % during the 11 years from 2001 to 2011 (6.4 % from 2001 to 2005 and 36.8 % from 2006 to 2011). Sequencing of gyrA, gyrB, parC and parE genes of all S. flexneri isolates showed that the mutation rate was as high as 93.9 %. In addition, 91.8 % and 92.3 % of S. flexneri harboured mutations in gyrA and parC, respectively. About 35.2 % of S. flexneri isolates susceptible to nalidixic acid contained mutations. Meanwhile, mutations were detected in 91.2 % of norfloxacin-susceptible strains, and almost all S. flexneri isolates resistant to fluoroquinolone contained mutations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study reporting the occurrence of point mutations Asn57Lys and His80Pro in gyrA and Ala85Thr, Asp111His and Ser129Pro in parC. Emerging fluoroquinolone resistance with a significantly high mutation rate of the gyrA and parC genes in S. flexneri in Jiangsu Province deserves attention, and monitoring antibiotic susceptibility is important for the effective management of S. flexneri infections.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of a pre-operative low dose of intravenous ketamine on tourniquet-induced haemodynamic changes. Ten minutes after induction of general anaesthesia, 0.1 mg/kg ketamine in 10 ml of saline (ketamine group, n = 14) or 10 ml of normal saline (control group, n = 14) were administered intravenously. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures, and heart rate relative to tourniquet inflation and deflation were recorded and compared within and between groups. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures in the control group significantly increased relative to baseline during the observation period following tourniquet inflation, but generally did not significantly increase in the ketamine group. The control group had a greater percentage of patients with a 30% rise in blood pressure at 60 min after tourniquet inflation compared with the ketamine group (28.6% vs 7.1%), but this was not statistically significant. We conclude that a pre-operative low dose (0.1 mg/kg) of intravenous ketamine can prevent a systemic arterial pressure increase for at least 60 min after tourniquet inflation under general anaesthesia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide the epidemiology, resistance pattern, and characterization of integrons in Shigella flexneri isolated between 2001 and 2011 in Jiangsu Province. METHOD A total of 624 strains of S. flexneri were collected from both outpatients and inpatients in hospitals in Jiangsu Province from January 2001 to December 2011. The Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method was used to perform the antimicrobial susceptibility test. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used in the detection of integrons. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was applied in the homology studies. RESULT Serotype 2a accounted for the largest proportion in S. flexneri, namely 26.4 %. Notably, an increasing trend was detected in the resistance to common antimicrobial agents during the period 2001-2011. In recent years, more than 80.0 % isolates of S. flexneri have proved to be resistant to ampicillin, nalidixic acid, and tetracycline. The positive rates of class 1, class 2, and the atypical class 1 integrons in S. flexneri are 69.3 %, 87.8 %, and 89.2 % respectively. Most integrons detected in our research carry genes encoding resistance to trimethoprim and streptomycin. CONCLUSION Antimicrobial resistance in S. flexneri has demonstrated a continuous rising trend in Jiangsu Province. A high prevalence of integrons and gene cassettes play an important role in the transmission of drug resistance in S. flexneri. Effective measures are urgently needed to control the spread of multi-drug-resistant S. flexneri, and more continuing active surveillance of antimicrobial resistance should be established worldwide, especially in developing countries.

Abstract
The variation in nutrient resorption has been studied at different taxonomic levels and geographic ranges. However, the variable traits of nutrient resorption at the individual species level across its distribution are poorly understood. We examined the variability and environmental controls of leaf nutrient resorption of Quercus variabilis, a widely distributed species of important ecological and economic value in China. The mean resorption efficiency was highest for phosphorus (P), followed by potassium (K), nitrogen (N), sulphur (S), magnesium (Mg) and carbon (C). Resorption efficiencies and proficiencies were strongly affected by climate and respective nutrients concentrations in soils and green leaves, but had little association with leaf mass per area. Climate factors, especially growing season length, were dominant drivers of nutrient resorption efficiencies, except for C, which was strongly related to green leaf C status. In contrast, green leaf nutritional status was the primary controlling factor of leaf nutrient proficiencies, except for C. Resorption efficiencies of N, P, K and S increased significantly with latitude, and were negatively related to growing season length and mean annual temperature. In turn, N, P, K and S in senesced leaves decreased with latitude, likely due to their efficient resorption response to variation in climate, but increased for Mg and did not change for C. Our results indicate that the nutrient resorption efficiency and proficiency of Q. variabilis differed strongly among nutrients, as well as growing environments. Our findings provide important insights into understanding the nutrient conservation strategy at the individual species level and its possible influence on nutrient cycling.

Abstract
This research investigates plasma-treated and metal-coated carbon nanowalls (CNWs) for use as counter electrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The CNWs were synthesized on a fluorine-tin-oxide (FTO) glass substrate using the microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system with methane (CH4) gas. The post-plasma treatment was performed on the CNWs with hydrogen (H2) plasma using PECVD, and the CNWs were sputter-coated with metal films using the RF magnetron sputtering system with a four-inch tungsten (W) target. Then the post-plasma-treated and metal-coated CNWs were used as counter electrodes for the fabrication of the DSSCs. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was performed to obtain cross-sectional and planar images of the grown CNWs. The energy conversion efficiencies of the DSSCs manufactured using the post-plasma-treated and metal-layer-coated CNWs as the counter electrodes were measured.

Abstract
In this study, diamond films were prepared using the microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system, which included a DC bias system to enhance the nucleation of the films. The films were synthesized on Si wafers with different ratios of methane (CH4) and hydrogen (H2) gases. We have studied the effects of the CH4-to-H2 ratio on the structural and optical properties of diamond films. The thickness and surface profile of the films were characterized via field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Raman was used to investigate the structural properties of the diamond films. The refractive indexes as functions of the CH4-to-H2 ratio were measured using an ellipsometer. The FE-SEM analysis showed that the 3 and 5 sccm CH4 created diamond films. The Raman analysis indicated that a nanocrystalline diamond film was formed at 3 sccm; a general diamond film, at 5 sccm; and films similar to the a-C:H film, at 7 sccm. The ellipsometer measurement showed that the refractive index of the synthesized diamond film was around 2.42 at 3 sccm. This value decreased as the CH4 volume increased.

UNLABELLED The inhibitory effects of glucocorticoids (GCs) on bone marrow stromal stem cell (BMSC) proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation are an important pathway through which GCs decrease bone formation. We found that microRNA-34a-5p was a critical player in dexamethasone (Dex)-inhibited BMSC proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. MicroRNA-34a-5p might be used as a therapeutic target for GC-impaired bone formation. INTRODUCTION The inhibitory effects of glucocorticoids (GCs) on bone marrow stromal stem cell (BMSC) proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation are an important pathway through which GCs decrease bone formation. The mechanisms of this process are still not completely understood. Recent studies implicated an important role of microRNAs in GC-mediated responses in various cellular processes, including cell proliferation and differentiation. Therefore, we hypothesized that these regulatory molecules might be implicated in the process of GC-decreased BMSC proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation. METHODS Western blot, quantitative real-time PCR, and cell proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation assays were employed to investigate the role of microRNAs in GC-inhibited BMSC proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation. RESULTS We found that microRNA-34a-5p was reciprocally regulated by Dex during the process of BMSC proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation. Furthermore, we confirmed that microRNA-34a-5p was a critical player in Dex-inhibited BMSC proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. Mechanistic studies showed that Dex inhibited BMSC proliferation by microRNA-34a-5p targeting cell cycle factors, including CDK4, CDK6, and Cyclin D1. Furthermore, downregulation of microRNA-34a-5p by Dex leads to Notch signaling activation, resulting in inhibition of BMSC osteogenic differentiation. CONCLUSIONS These results showed that microRNA-34a-5p, a crucial regulator for BMSC proliferation and osteogenic differentiation, might be used as a therapeutic target for GC-impaired bone formation.

Abstract
A new class of magnesium alloys has been developed by dissolving large amounts of oxygen atoms into a magnesium lattice (Mg-O alloys). The oxygen atoms are supplied by decomposing titanium dioxide nanoparticles in a magnesium melt at 720 °C; the titanium is then completely separated out from the magnesium melt after solidification. The dissolved oxygen atoms are located at the octahedral sites of magnesium, which expand the magnesium lattice. These alloys possess ionic and metallic bonding characteristics, providing outstanding mechanical and functional properties. A Mg-O-Al casting alloy made in this fashion shows superior mechanical performance, chemical resistance to corrosion, and thermal conductivity. Furthermore, a similar Mg-O-Zn wrought alloy shows high elongation to failure (>50%) at room temperature, because the alloy plastically deforms with only multiple slips in the sub-micrometer grains (<300 nm) surrounding the larger grains (~15 μm). The metal/non-metal interstitial alloys are expected to open a new paradigm in commercial alloy design.

Abstract
Introduction: In New Mexico (NM), Hispanic women have a 1.6-fold increased risk of breast cancer-specific death compared to non-Hispanic white women. In previous studies, race/ethnic minority women have been less likely to receive recommended adjuvant treatments, including radiation in women undergoing breast conservation, and hormonal therapy.
Objective: To determine whether non-receipt of recommended therapies contributed to disparate survival.
Methods: We conducted a case-cohort study of breast-cancer-specific survival within a population-based cohort of first invasive breast cancer diagnosed in white females from 1997-2009 in six NM counties, identified through Surveillance Epidemiology End Results (SEER). We selected fifteen percent of all women diagnosed with breast cancer and all breast cancer deaths. After IRB approval, data were collected from comprehensive medical chart reviews, supplemented by SEER information. Receipt of standard of care, vs. not, was defined based on age, diagnosis year and tumor characteristics, according to changes in treatment guidelines. Women who had a reported contraindication or refused therapy were omitted from assessment of quality of care for that therapy. Cox proportional hazards models for case-cohort were conducted using weighted estimates, with calculation of robust variance and hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), using an alpha level of .05. Analyses were restricted to women of age 70 or less who survived at least 12 months. The proportional hazards assumption was verified by Schoenfeld residuals. All analyses were adjusted for age.
Results: Comprehensive medical records reviews were completed for 91% of eligible women (674 cohort members, 519 breast cancer deaths; median follow up 7.8 years). All others were omitted from analysis. Of women eligible for guideline-based treatment, receipt of guideline-appropriate therapy did not differ by Hispanic ethnicity for any treatment, and Hispanic women were slightly more likely overall to receive appropriate therapy (difference not significant). Among guideline-eligible women, at least 91% received radiotherapy, 78% received chemotherapy, 82% received endocrine therapy, and 89% received anti-HER2 targeted agents. After adjustment for other treatment, lack of receipt of guideline-appropriate therapy was related to an increased risk of breast cancer death for endocrine (HR 1.76; 95% CI 1.09-2.84) and radiation therapy (HR 2.05; 95% CI 1.14-3.69). The few HER2-positive women not treated precluded further assessment. After accounting for endocrine and radiation therapy the survival disparity HR of 1.6 in Hispanic women was reduced to 1.57 suggesting only 2% of the disparity was due to differences in receipt of these treatments.
Conclusion: Limitations include likely undercounts of appropriate therapy, thus proportions cited are minimal estimates. Appropriate therapy includes only documented receipt as therapy completion could not always be assessed. Hispanic women have a disproportionately higher breast cancer mortality despite apparently receiving adjuvant therapies to a similar degree as non-Hispanic white women. Equalizing standard of care and attempting to reduce treatment disparities may not be sufficient to address the disproportionate mortality in Hispanic women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Serous cystic neoplasm (SCN) is a cystic neoplasm of the pancreas whose natural history is poorly known. The purpose of the study was to attempt to describe the natural history of SCN, including the specific mortality. DESIGN Retrospective multinational study including SCN diagnosed between 1990 and 2014. RESULTS 2622 patients were included. Seventy-four per cent were women, and median age at diagnosis was 58 years (16-99). Patients presented with non-specific abdominal pain (27%), pancreaticobiliary symptoms (9%), diabetes mellitus (5%), other symptoms (4%) and/or were asymptomatic (61%). Fifty-two per cent of patients were operated on during the first year after diagnosis (median size: 40 mm (2-200)), 9% had resection beyond 1 year of follow-up (3 years (1-20), size at diagnosis: 25 mm (4-140)) and 39% had no surgery (3.6 years (1-23), 25.5 mm (1-200)). Surgical indications were (not exclusive) uncertain diagnosis (60%), symptoms (23%), size increase (12%), large size (6%) and adjacent organ compression (5%). In patients followed beyond 1 year (n=1271), size increased in 37% (growth rate: 4 mm/year), was stable in 57% and decreased in 6%. Three serous cystadenocarcinomas were recorded. Postoperative mortality was 0.6% (n=10), and SCN's related mortality was 0.1% (n=1). CONCLUSIONS After a 3-year follow-up, clinical relevant symptoms occurred in a very small proportion of patients and size slowly increased in less than half. Surgical treatment should be proposed only for diagnosis remaining uncertain after complete workup, significant and related symptoms or exceptionally when exists concern with malignancy. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although an ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch has been developed to improve anti-wrinkle effects, an efficacy evaluation with a control group has not yet been performed. In this study, the anti-wrinkle effect of an ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch was evaluated in a double-blind clinical study with a control group. In addition, a cumulative skin irritation and sensitization potential of the ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch was performed. METHODS Twenty-three subjects were selected for anti-wrinkle effect evaluation in a double-blind clinical study. Subjects were divided into two groups. Group I subjects applied an ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch on a crow's feet area on the left side of the face and a control sample on a crow's feet area on the right side of the face every 4 days. Group II subjects placed the same patches on opposite sides of the face. Global Photodamage Score and skin replica analysis were conducted by visual inspection and skin visiometer, respectively. A skin irritation and sensitization assessment was performed on 51 subjects using the modified Shelanski & Shelanski procedure. Cumulative skin irritation potential and skin sensitization of the ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch and control sample were evaluated. RESULTS Skin treated with the ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch showed a statistically significant improvement in both the Global Photodamage Score and visiometer R values (P < 0.05) compared with the control sample. The R2 value (maximum roughness), in particular, showed a highly significant improvement (P < 0.01). The skin irritation and sensitization assessment demonstrated that the ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch did not induce any cumulative skin irritation potential or skin sensitization. CONCLUSIONS An ascorbic acid-loaded dissolving microneedle patch produced a significant anti-wrinkle effect without skin irritation and sensitization problems. This cosmetic dissolving microneedle patch can be used efficiently in the anti-wrinkle cosmetic field with patient convenience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study explored the prognostic impact of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and investigated whether three histologic subtypes (lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma, carcinoma with Crohn's disease-like lymphoid reaction, and conventional-type adenocarcinoma) could stratify a prognostic subset for patients with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated gastric cancer (EBVaGC). MATERIALS AND METHODS After reviewing 1318 consecutive cases of surgically resected or endoscopic submucosal dissected gastric cancers, 120 patients were identified as EBV-positive using EBV-encoded RNA in situ hybridization. The evaluation of the percentage of intratumoral (iTu-) and stromal (str-) TILs was carried out, and the cases were also subclassified into three histologic subtypes as noted above. RESULTS Among the 120 patients, 73 patients (60.8%) and 60 patients (50.0%) were determined as str-TIL-positive and iTu-TIL-positive, respectively. In a univariate analysis, str-TIL-positivity was significantly associated with longer recurrence-free survival (RFS; P = 0.002) and disease-free survival (DFS; P = 0.008), yet not overall survival (OS; P = 0.145). While iTu-TIL-positivity has a tendency of favorable outcome indicator for DFS and OS, but statistically significant differences were not shown, respectively (RFS, P = 0.058; DFS, P = 0.151; OS, P = 0.191). In a multivariate analysis using a Cox proportional hazard model adjusted for age, pTNM stage, lymphatic invasion, perineural invasion, and venous invasion; histologic subtype, WHO classification, and str-TIL-positivity were independently or tentatively associated with favorable RFS (hazard ratio [HR] = 12.193, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.039-143.055, P = 0.047) or DFS (HR = 4.836, 95% CI 0.917-25.525, P = 0.063). CONCLUSION The histologic subclassification and TILs can be used to predict RFS and DFS for patients with EBVaGC.

Abstract
We report the first measurement of the target single-spin asymmetry, A(y), in quasielastic scattering from the inclusive reaction (3)He(↑)(e,e') on a (3)He gas target polarized normal to the lepton scattering plane. Assuming time-reversal invariance, this asymmetry is strictly zero for one-photon exchange. A nonzero A(y) can arise from the interference between the one- and two-photon exchange processes which is sensitive to the details of the substructure of the nucleon. An experiment recently completed at Jefferson Lab yielded asymmetries with high statistical precision at Q(2)=0.13, 0.46, and 0.97 GeV(2). These measurements demonstrate, for the first time, that the (3)He asymmetry is clearly nonzero and negative at the 4σ-9σ level. Using measured proton-to-(3)He cross-section ratios and the effective polarization approximation, neutron asymmetries of -(1-3)% were obtained. The neutron asymmetry at high Q(2) is related to moments of the generalized parton distributions (GPDs). Our measured neutron asymmetry at Q(2)=0.97 GeV(2) agrees well with a prediction based on two-photon exchange using a GPD model and thus provides a new, independent constraint on these distributions.

Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the effect of 2-[(4-hydroxy-phenylamino)-methylene]-5,5-dimethyl-cyclohex (HPDH) on mammary carcinogenesis induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene in female Sprague Dawley rats.Methods: Among three groups of rats (50 each) used in the study, the control group was fed standard diet alone, ibuprofen group received standard diet containing 1200 mg/kg ibuprofen while HPDH group was administered standard diet containing 1200 mg/kg HPDH. The treatment was for 10 days for all the groups. All the animals received 20 mg of DMBA intragastrically by gavage. Clinical parameters for the rats were recorded weekly. Micrometer caliper was used to measure the diameter of all the tumors at the end of the experiment and tumor volume calculated. Histological evaluation was performed using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to determine the level of HPDH and ibuprofen in the serum of the animals.Results: The data revealed a significant decrease in the number of rats with mammary tumor, number of tumors/rat and tumor volume by 54, 72 and 75 %, respectively, in HPDH group compared to control group. The ibuprofen- treated rats also showed significant decrease in the number of rats with tumor, number of tumors/rat and tumor volume by 43, 55, and 59 %, respectively. Treatment of rats with HPDH increased the latency period of tumor induction significantly (p < 0.005). Median detection period (50 % of tumors) was 92, 83 and 56 days, respectively, in HPDH, ibuprofen and control groups, respectively, after DMBA induction.Conclusion: These results demonstrate that HPDH possesses strong chemopreventive activity against mammary carcinogenesis.Keywords: Carcinogenesis, Mammary tumor, Median detection period, Tumor, Latency period, Chemopreventive activity, Ibuprofen

Abstract
Previous abdominal surgery is the most common cause of mechanical small bowel obstruction. However, in patients with no history of abdominal surgery, the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical small bowel obstruction is difficult. A persistent omphalomesenteric duct remnant is a rare finding that typically presents in the pediatric population and is extremely rare in patients aged > 60 years. In the present report, we describe the case of an omphalomesenteric duct cyst causing small bowel obstruction in a 69-year-old man with no history of a surgical procedure.

Abstract
p130Cas regulates cancer progression by driving tyrosine receptor kinase signaling. Tight regulation of p130Cas expression is necessary for survival, apoptosis, and maintenance of cell motility in various cell types. Several studies revealed that transcriptional and post-translational control of p130Cas are important for maintenance of its expression and activity. To explore novel regulatory mechanisms of p130Cas expression, we studied the effect of microRNAs (miRs) on p130Cas expression in human breast cancer MCF7 cells. Here, we provide experimental evidence that miR-362-3p and miR-329 perform a tumor-suppressive function and their expression is downregulated in human breast cancer. miR-362-3p and miR-329 inhibited cellular proliferation, migration, and invasion, thereby suppressing tumor growth, by downregulating p130Cas. Ectopic expression of p130Cas attenuated the inhibitory effects of the two miRs on tumor progression. Relative expression levels of miR-362-3p/329 and p130Cas between normal and breast cancer correlated inversely; miR-362-3p/329 expression was decreased, whereas that of p130Cas increased in breast cancers. Furthermore, we showed that downregulation of miR-362-3p and miR-329 was caused by differential DNA methylation of miR genes. Enhanced DNA methylation (according to methylation-specific PCR) was responsible for downregulation of miR-362-3p and miR-329 in breast cancer. Taken together, these findings point to a novel role for miR-362-3p and miR-329 as tumor suppressors; the miR-362-3p/miR-329-p130Cas axis seemingly has a crucial role in breast cancer progression. Thus, modulation of miR-362-3p/miR-329 may be a novel therapeutic strategy against breast cancer.

Abstract
AIM To compare the hemodynamic characteristics of posterior communicating artery aneurysm before and after embolization and investigate its relationship with aneurysm recurrence using a computational fluid dynamics simulation study. METHODS Thirteen patients undergone embolization of posterior communicating artery aneurysm between January 2008 and February 2010 were enrolled and divided into recurrent and recovered group according to their follow-up angiographic data. Aneurysm models were established using three-dimensional cerebral angiography data collected before and after embolization. Preoperative and postoperative hemodynamic modalities at aneurysm neck region were analyzed with computational fluid dynamics software using the finite element algorithm. In this study, computational models were set according to transcranial Doppler pulsatile flow, and the part of aneurysm occluded by spring coil is completely independent of the blood flow. RESULTS In recurrent group, peak systolic wall shear stress and blood flow velocity at the aneurysm neck region were significant increased after the embolization. On the contrary, in recovered group peak systolic wall shear stress and blood flow velocity were significantly reduced after the embolization. The recurrent group also had higher post-embolization peak systolic wall shear stress and blood flow velocity than the recovered group. CONCLUSION High wall shear stress and blood flow velocity after embolization at the neck region of posterior communicating artery aneurysm may promote early aneurysm recurrence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To determine genomic alterations in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumors obtained through routine clinical practice, selected cancer-related genes were evaluated and compared with alterations seen in frozen tumors obtained through research studies. PATIENTS AND METHODS DNA samples obtained from 252 FFPE HNSCC were analyzed using next-generation sequencing-based (NGS) clinical assay to determine sequence and copy number variations in 236 cancer-related genes plus 47 introns from 19 genes frequently rearranged in cancer. Human papillomavirus (HPV) status was determined by presence of the HPV DNA sequence in all samples and corroborated with high-risk HPV in situ hybridization (ISH) and p16 immunohistochemical (IHC) staining in a subset of tumors. Sequencing data from 399 frozen tumors in The Cancer Genome Atlas and University of Chicago public datasets were analyzed for comparison. RESULTS Among 252 FFPE HNSCC, 84 (33%) were HPV positive and 168 (67%) were HPV negative by sequencing. A subset of 40 tumors with HPV ISH and p16 IHC results showed complete concordance with NGS-derived HPV status. The most common genes with genomic alterations were PIK3CA and PTEN in HPV-positive tumors and TP53 and CDKN2A/B in HPV-negative tumors. In the pathway analysis, the PI3K pathway in HPV-positive tumors and DNA repair-p53 and cell cycle pathways in HPV-negative tumors were frequently altered. The HPV-positive oropharynx and HPV-positive nasal cavity/paranasal sinus carcinoma shared similar mutational profiles. CONCLUSION The genomic profile of FFPE HNSCC tumors obtained through routine clinical practice is comparable with frozen tumors studied in research setting, demonstrating the feasibility of comprehensive genomic profiling in a clinical setting. However, the clinical significance of these genomic alterations requires further investigation through application of these genomic profiles as integral biomarkers in clinical trials.
