Abstract
The crystal structures of rare-earth diaryl- or dialkylphosphate derivatives are poorly explored. Crystals of bis[bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)phosphato-κO]chloridotetrakis(methanol-κO)neodymium methanol disolvate, [Nd(C24H34O4P)Cl(CH4O)4]·2CH3OH, (1), and of the lutetium, [Lu(C24H34O4P)Cl(CH4O)4]·2CH3OH, (2), and yttrium, [Y(C24H34O4P)Cl(CH4O)4]·2CH3OH, (3), analogues have been obtained by reactions between lithium bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)phosphate and LnCl3(H2O)6 (in a 2:1 ratio) in methanol. Compounds (1)-(3) crystallize in the C2/c space group. Their crystal structures are isomorphous. The molecule possesses C2 symmetry with a twofold crystallographic axis passing through the Ln and Cl atoms. The bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)phosphate ligands all display a κ1O-monodentate coordination mode. The coordination polyhedron for the metal atom [coordination number (CN) = 7] is a distorted pentagonal bipyramid. Each [Ln{O2P(O-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2}2Cl(CH3OH)4] molecular unit exhibits two intramolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds, forming six-membered rings, and two intramolecular O-H...Cl interactions, forming four-membered rings. Intermolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds connect each unit via four noncoordinating methanol molecules with four other units, forming a two-dimensional hydrogen-bond network. Crystals of bis[bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)phosphato-κO]tetrakis(methanol-κO)(nitrato-κ2O,O')neodymium methanol disolvate, [Nd(C24H34O4P)(NO3)(CH4O)4]·2CH3OH, (4), have been obtained in an analogous manner from NdCl3(H2O)6. Compound (4) also crystalizes in the C2/c space group. Its crystal structure is similar to those of (1)-(3). The κ2O,O'-bidentate nitrate anion is disordered over a twofold axis, being located nearly on it. Half of the molecule is crystallographically unique (CNNd = 8). Unlike (1)-(3), complex (4) exhibits disorder of all three methanol molecules, one isopropyl group of the phosphate ligand and the NO3- ligand. The structure of (4) displays intra- and intermolecular O-H...O hydrogen bonds similar to those in (1)-(3). Compounds (1)-(4) represent the first reported mononuclear bis[bis(diaryl/dialkyl)phosphate] rare-earth complexes.

Abstract
Strength of interaction between Bader's atomic basins, enclosed by zero-flux surfaces of electron distribution, was proposed to be a measure of elastic deformation of an interaction. The set containing 53 atomic aggregate and covering all range of interaction strength (from van der Waals interactions to triple covalent bonds) was calculated by DFT and perturbation theory methods. Further analysis was performed to seek correlations between various local quantities based on electron density and effective force constants of stretching diatomic vibrations. The linear trend between effective force constants and the potential energy density at the (3, -1) critical point of electron distribution was found. This correlation was improved by the integration of the potential energy density over an interbasin zero-flux surface of electron density. Simple mechanical explanation of established trends is presented. The correlations can be further used to at least semiquantitatively compare any pair of interactions between Bader's atomic basins.

Abstract
Metal-involving halogen bonding was detected in a series of associates of CHI3 with trans-[PtX2(NCNAlk2)2] (X = Cl, Br). The HI2C-Iη(1)(Pt) halogen bonding and the bifurcated HI2C-Iη(2)(Pt-Cl) halogen bonding - the latter undergoes the thermally induced reversible HI2C-I∙∙∙η(2)(Pt-Cl) ⇄ HI2C-I∙∙∙η(1)(Pt) transformation - were observed and confirmed theoretically.

Abstract
The significant variety in the crystal structures of rare-earth carboxylate complexes is due to both the large coordination numbers of the rare-earth cations and the ability of the carboxylate anions to form several types of bridges between rare-earth metal atoms. Therefore, these complexes are represented by mono-, di- and polynuclear complexes, and by coordination polymers. The interaction of LnCl3(thf)x (Ln = Eu or Y; thf is tetrahydrofuran) with sodium or diethylammonium diphenylacetate in methanol followed by recrystallization from a DME/THF/hexane solvent mixture (DME is 1,2-dimethoxyethane) leads to crystals of the non-isomorphic dinuclear complexes tetrakis(μ-2,2-diphenylacetato)-κ(4)O:O';κ(3)O,O':O';κ(3)O:O,O'-bis[(1,2-dimethoxyethane-κ(2)O,O')(2,2-diphenylacetato-κ(2)O,O')europium(III)], [Eu(C14H11O2)6(C4H10O2)2], (I), and tetrakis(μ-2,2-diphenylacetato)-κ(4)O:O';κ(3)O,O':O';κ(3)O:O,O'-bis[(1,2-dimethoxyethane-κ(2)O,O')(2,2-diphenylacetato-κ(2)O,O')yttrium(III)], [Y(C14H11O2)6(C4H10O2)2], (II), possessing monoclinic (P21/c) symmetry. The [Ln(Ph2CHCOO)3(dme)]2 molecule (Ln = Eu or Y) lies on an inversion centre and exhibits three different coordination modes of the diphenylacetate ligands, namely bidentate κ(2)O,O'-terminal, bidentate μ2-κ(1)O:κ(1)O'-bridging and tridentate μ2-κ(1)O:κ(2)O,O'-semibridging. The terminal and bridging ligands in (I) are disordered over two positions, with an occupancy ratio of 0.806 (2):0.194 (2). The interaction of EuCl3(thf)2 with Na[Ph3CCOO] in methanol followed by crystallization from hot methanol produces crystals of tetrakis(methanol-κO)tris(2,2,2-triphenylacetato)-κ(4)O:O';κO-europium(III) methanol disolvate, [Eu(C19H15O2)3(CH3OH)4]·2CH3OH, (III)·2MeOH, with triclinic (P-1) symmetry. The molecule of (III) contains two O,O'-bidentate and one O-monodentate terminal triphenylacetate ligand. (III)·2MeOH possesses one intramolecular and four intermolecular hydrogen bonds, forming a [(III)·2MeOH]2 dimer with two bridging methanol molecules.

Abstract
Highly luminescent, photostable, and soluble lanthanide pentafluorobenzoates have been synthesized and thoroughly characterized, with a focus on Eu(III) and Tb(III) complexes as visible emitters and Nd(III) , Er(III) , and Yb(III) complexes as infrared emitters. Investigation of the crystal structures of the complexes in powder form and as single crystals by using X-ray diffraction revealed five different structural types, including monomeric, dimeric, and polymeric. The local structure in different solutions was studied by using X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of terbium and europium complexes were 39 and 15 %, respectively; the latter value was increased almost twice by using the heterometallic complex [Tb0.5 Eu0.5 (pfb)3 (H2 O)] (Hpfb=pentafluorobenzoic acid). Due to the effectively utilized sensitization strategy (pfb)(-) →Tb→Eu, a pure europium luminescence with a PLQY of 29 % was achieved.

Abstract
(1RS,2SR,3RS,4SR,5RS)-2,4-Dibenzoyl-1,3,5-triphenylcyclohexan-1-ol or (4-hydroxy-2,4,6-triphenylcyclohexane-1,3-diyl)bis(phenylmethanone), C38H32O3, (1), is formed as a by-product in the NaOH-catalyzed synthesis of 1,3,5-triphenylpentane-1,5-dione from acetophenone and benzaldehyde. Single crystals of the chloroform hemisolvate, C38H32O3·0.5CHCl3, were grown from chloroform. The structure has triclinic (P1) symmetry. One diastereomer [as a pair of (1RS,2SR,3RS,4SR,5RS)-enantiomers] of (1) has been found in the crystal structure and confirmed by NMR studies. The dichoromethane hemisolvate has been reported previously [Zhang et al. (2007). Acta Cryst. E63, o4652]. (1RS,2SR,3RS,4SR,5RS)-2,4-Dibenzoyl-3,5-bis(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenylcyclohexan-1-ol or [4-hydroxy-2,6-bis(2-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenylcyclohexane-1,3-diyl]bis(phenylmethanone), C40H36O5, (2), is also formed as a by-product, under the same conditions, from acetophenone and 2-methoxybenzaldehyde. Crystals of (2) have been grown from chloroform. The structure has orthorhombic (Pca2₁) symmetry. A diastereomer of (2) possesses the same configuration as (1). In both structures, the cyclohexane ring adopts a chair conformation with all bulky groups (benzoyl, phenyl and 2-methoxyphenyl) in equatorial positions. The molecules of (1) and (2) both display one intramolecular O-H···O hydrogen bond.
