Abstract
OBJECTIVES Embryonic numerical and structural chromosomal abnormalities are the most common cause of early pregnancy loss. However, the role of submicroscopic copy-number variations (CNVs) in early pregnancy loss is unclear, and little is known about the critical regions and candidate genes for miscarriage, because of the large size of structural chromosomal abnormalities. The aim of this study was to identify potential miscarriage-associated submicroscopic CNVs and critical regions of large CNVs as well as candidate genes for miscarriage. METHODS Over a 5-year period, 5180 fresh miscarriage specimens were investigated using quantitative fluorescent polymerase chain reaction/CNV sequencing or chromosomal microarray analysis. Statistically significant submicroscopic CNVs were identified by comparing the frequency of recurrent submicroscopic CNVs between cases and a published control cohort. Furthermore, genes within critical regions of miscarriage-associated CNVs were prioritized by integrating the Residual Variation Intolerance Score and the human gene expression dataset for identification of potential miscarriage candidate genes. RESULTS Results without significant maternal-cell contamination were obtained in 5003 of the 5180 (96.6%) cases. Clinically significant chromosomal abnormalities were identified in 59.1% (2955/5003) of these cases. Three recurrent submicroscopic CNVs (microdeletions in 22q11.21, 2q37.3 and 9p24.3p24.2) were significantly more frequent in miscarriage cases, and were considered to be associated with miscarriage. Moreover, 44 critical regions of large CNVs were observed, including 14 deletions and 30 duplications. There were 309 genes identified as potential miscarriage candidate genes through gene-prioritization analysis. CONCLUSIONS We identified potential miscarriage candidate CNVs and genes. These data demonstrate the importance of CNVs in the etiology of miscarriage and highlight the importance of ongoing analysis of CNVs in the study of miscarriage. Copyright © 2019 ISUOG. Abstract
Arsenic has been associated with significant effects on human health. Exposure to inorganic arsenic has been associated with the changes in gene expression. Promoter of CDKN1A antisense DNA damage activated RNA (PANDAR) expression is induced by p53 protein and DNA damage response. Here, we investigated whether the ability of arsenic metabolism in individuals affected the expression of PANDAR, DNA damage, and DNA methylation. Levels of gene expression and DNA damage were examined by the quantitative polymerase chain reaction and DNA methylation was measured by the methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting curve. In our study, we demonstrated that arsenic exposure increased PANDAR expression and DNA damage among arsenic smelting plant laborers. The PANDAR expression and DNA damage were positively linked to monomethylarsonic acid % ( R = 0.25, p < 0.05 and R = 0.32, p < 0.01) and negatively linked to dimethylarsinic acid % ( R = −0.21, p < 0.05 and R = −0.31, p < 0.01). Subjects with low primary methylation index had increased levels of DNA damage (51.62 ± 2.96 vs. 60.93 ± 3.10, p < 0.05) and methylation (17.14 (15.88–18.51) vs. 15.83 (14.82–18.00), p < 0.05). Subjects with low secondary methylation index had increased levels of PANDAR expression (4.88 ± 0.29 vs. 4.07 ± 0.23, p < 0.01) and DNA damage (17.38 (15.88–19.29) vs. 15.83 (14.82–17.26), p < 0.01). DNA methylation of PANDAR gene was linked to the regulation of its expression in peripheral blood lymphocytes among laborers ( Y = −2.08 × X + 5.64, p < 0.05). These findings suggested arsenic metabolism ability and exposure affected the expression of PANDAR, DNA damage, and DNA methylation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory condition that can have a large negative impact on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). A reliable and validated measure of HS-specific HRQOL in clinical studies is needed. OBJECTIVES To develop and validate the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Quality Of Life (HiSQOL©) scale, for clinical trial measurement of HS-specific HRQOL. METHODS In stage 1, qualitative concept elicitation interviews were conducted with patients with HS in Denmark (n = 21) and the U.S.A. (n = 21). In stage 2, cognitive debriefing interviews were performed with U.S. (n = 30) and Danish patients with HS (n = 30). In stage 3 an observational study of 222 patients with HS in the U.S.A. was conducted for item reduction, measure validation and assessment of psychometric properties. In stage 4, an observational study of 215 patients with HS in Denmark was conducted to confirm the psychometric structure derived in stage 3. In both studies the Dermatology Life Quality Index, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and numerical rating scale for pain were also included. RESULTS In concept elicitation, 99 items were generated, which were reduced to 41 after removing duplicates. In cognitive debriefing, two items were added and one item removed. A 42-item instrument was psychometrically assessed. Based on psychometric analyses and patient input, the instrument was reduced to 17 items that had strong psychometric properties in both the U.S. and Danish samples. CONCLUSIONS The HiSQOL is a reliable and valid instrument to measure HS-specific HRQOL in clinical trials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the role of microRNA-203 in laryngeal cancer and its underlying mechanism in regulating cell invasion and apoptosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS MicroRNA-203 expression in laryngeal cancer tissues and paracancerous tissues was detected by quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The regulatory effects of microRNA-203 on the invasion and apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells were detected by transwell assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay was performed to access the binding condition of microRNA-203 and LASP1. Both mRNA and protein levels of LASP1 in laryngeal cancer cells were detected after transfection with microRNA-203 mimic or microRNA-203 inhibitor by qRT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. Rescue experiments were finally performed to detect whether microRNA-203 regulates laryngeal cancer development via targeting LASP1. RESULTS MicroRNA-203 was lowly expressed in laryngeal cancer tissues and cell lines. MicroRNA-203 knockdown in Hep-2 cells can promote the invasion and inhibit the apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells. Subsequently, LASP1 was predicted to be the target gene of microRNA-203, which was further verified by the Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay. LASP1 expression was negatively regulated by microRNA-203. Furthermore, rescue experiments showed that the regulatory effects of microRNA-203 on the invasion and apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells were reversed by LASP1. CONCLUSIONS We showed that lowly expressed microRNA-203 could promote the invasion and inhibit apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells via inhibiting LASP1.

Abstract
A collaborative study was conducted to validate new enrichment methods for the TECRA Listeria Visual Immunoassay (TLVIA). These new methods incorporate a newly formulated medium, TECRA Listeria Enrichment Broth, which does not contain the highly toxic antifungal agent, cycloheximide. The new procedures will provide an alternative to the enrichment procedures described in AOAC Method 995.22. Three food types (raw ground beef, lettuce, and ice cream) were analyzed in the United States, and 2 food types (cooked turkey and cooked fish fillets) were analyzed in Australasia. Thirty collaborators participated in the study, 16 in Australasia and 14 in the United States. With the exception of one batch of ground beef, comparison of the proportion of positive test portions (p ≥ 0.05) showed no significant difference between the TLVIA and the reference method for the 5 foods at 3 inoculation levels. For the one batch of naturally contaminated raw ground beef, the TLVIA gave significantly more confirmed positive results than the reference method.

Abstract
Background A transition from a subtyping to a phenotyping approach in rosacea is underway, allowing individual patient management according to presenting features instead of categorization by predefined subtypes. The ROSacea COnsensus (ROSCO) 2017 recommendations further support this transition and align with guidance from other working groups. Objectives To update and extend previous global ROSCO recommendations in line with the latest research and continue supporting uptake of the phenotype approach in rosacea through clinical tool development. Methods Nineteen dermatologists and two ophthalmologists used a modified Delphi approach to reach consensus on statements pertaining to critical aspects of rosacea diagnosis, classification and management. Voting was electronic and blinded. Results Delphi statements on which the panel achieved consensus of ≥ 75% voting ‘Agree’ or ‘Strongly agree’ are presented. The panel recommends discussing disease burden with patients during consultations, using four questions to assist conversations. The primary treatment objective should be achievement of complete clearance, owing to previously established clinical benefits for patients. Cutaneous and ocular features are defined. Treatments have been reassessed in line with recent evidence and the prior treatment algorithm updated. Combination therapy is recommended to benefit patients with multiple features. Ongoing monitoring and dialogue should take place between physician and patients, covering defined factors to maximize outcomes. A prototype clinical tool (Rosacea Tracker) and patient case studies have been developed from consensus statements. Conclusions The current survey updates previous recommendations as a basis for local guideline development and provides clinical tools to facilitate a phenotype approach in practice and improve rosacea patient management. What's already known about this topic? A transition to a phenotype approach in rosacea is underway and is being recommended by multiple working groups. New research has become available since the previous ROSCO consensus, necessitating an update and extension of recommendations.
What does this study add? We offer updated global recommendations for clinical practice that account for recent research, to continue supporting the transition to a phenotype approach in rosacea. We present prototype clinical tools to facilitate use of the phenotype approach in practice and improve management of patients with rosacea.

Abstract
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of more than 200 nucleotides RNA transcripts which have limited protein coding capacity. They regulate numerous biological processes in cancers through diverse molecular mechanisms. Aberrant expression of lncRNAs has been frequently associated with human cancer. Furthermore, the tumor microenvironment (TME) is composed of different cells such as cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), endothelial cells and infiltrated immune cells, and all of which participate in communication with tumor cells affecting the progression of tumor. LncRNAs are directly and indirectly involved in the crosstalk between stromal cells and tumor cells and dysregulated lncRNAs expression in these cells could drive tumorigenesis. In this review, we explore the influence of aberrantly expressed lncRNAs in tumor progression, clarify the critical roles of lncRNAs in the TME, summarize findings on crosstalk between infiltrated immune cells, CAFs, endothelial cells, and tumor cells via lncRNAs, and discuss the promise of lncRNAs as tumor diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the relationship between superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) A16V and paraoxonase 2 (PON2) S311C gene variants and the risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and evaluate the effects of the genotypes on clinical, hormonal, metabolic and oxidative stress indexes in Chinese women. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study of 932 patients with PCOS and 745 control women. For the clinical and metabolic association study of genotypes, 631 patients and 492 controls were included after excluding the subjects with interferential factors. Genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Serum total oxidant status, total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), oxidative stress index and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and clinical and metabolic parameters were also analyzed. RESULTS The prevalence of the A allele of SOD2 A16V polymorphism was significantly greater in patients with PCOS than in control subjects. Genotype (AA + AV) remained a significant predictor for PCOS in prognostic models including age, body mass index, insulin resistance index, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides (TGs) as covariates. Patients carrying the A allele had significantly higher serum luteinizing hormone (LH) levels, and the ratio of LH to follicle-stimulating hormone compared with patients with the VV genotype. We also showed that patients carrying the C allele of the PON2 S311C polymorphism had lower T-AOC compared with patients carrying the SS genotype. However, no significant differences were observed in the frequencies of the S311C genotypes and alleles of the PON2 gene between PCOS and control groups. CONCLUSION The SOD2 A16V, but not PON2 S311C, polymorphism may be one of the genetic determinants for PCOS in Chinese women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vascular network formation induced by angiogenesis plays an important role in many physiological and pathological processes. However, the role of blood flow and underlying mechanisms in vascular network formation, for example for the development of the caudal vein plexus (CVP), is poorly understood. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to explore the role of ERK5-klf2a-nos2b signaling in the CVP angiogenesis. METHOD AND RESULTS In this study on tnnt2a-MO injection and chemical blood flow modulator treatment in zebrafish embryos, we demonstrated that decreased blood flow disrupted CVP formation. The hemodynamic force was quantitatively analyzed. Furthermore, CVP angiogenesis in zebrafish embryos was inhibited by disruption of the blood flow downstream effectors ERK5, klf2a, and nos2b in response to treatment with the ERK5 specific inhibitor and to injection of klf2a-MO, nos2b-MO. Overexpression of klf2a mRNA or nos2b mRNA restored vascular defects in tnnt2a or klf2a morphants. The data suggest that flow-induced ERK5-klf2a-nos2b signaling is involved in CVP angiogenesis in zebrafish embryos. CONCLUSION We have demonstrated that blood flow is essential for vascular network formation, specifically for CVP angiogenesis in zebrafish. A novel genetic and mechanical mechanism was discovered in which ERK5 facilitates the integration of blood flow with the downstream klf2a-nos2b signaling for CVP angiogenesis.

Abstract
Objective:TThe aim of this study is to investigate the effect of in vitro cultured Calculus Bovis on the inflammation of oropharynx and body in patients with OSA during the perioperative period of H-UPPP.Method:Eighty patients with OSA and H-UPPP indications were enrolled. The patients were divided into experimental group and control group by random number table, 40 cases in each group. The experimental group was given in vitro cultured Calculus Bovis, while the control group was not given bovine bezoar in vitro. The postoperative oropharyngeal pain, time to resume normal diet, local edema, concentration of IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α in saliva, and concentration of IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α in blood were compared between the two groups. Result:The pain of oropharynx in the experimental group was lighter than that in the control group on the 3rd, 5th and 7th day after operation (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in the pain of oropharynx between the two groups on the 1st day after operation(P>0.05); the time of restoring normal diet in the experimental group was shorter than that in the control group (P<0.05); the edema of oropharynx in the experimental group was lighter than that in the control group on the 5th and 7th day after operation (P<0.05).The levels of IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α in saliva were lower than those in control group on the 3rd, 5th and 7th day after operation (P<0.05), and the levels of IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α in blood on the 5th and 7th day after operation were lower than those in control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:In vitro perioperative period of H-UPPP can improve the postoperative sore throat and local edema of oropharynx, shorten the time of normal diet and reduce the expression of related inflammatory factors in oropharynx and blood.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a common chronic facial dermatosis. Classification of rosacea has evolved from subtyping to phenotyping. OBJECTIVES To update our systematic review on interventions for rosacea. METHODS We searched CENTRAL, MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, Science Citation Index and ongoing trials registers (March 2018) for randomized controlled trials. Study selection, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment and analyses were carried out independently by two authors. Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) was used to assess certainty of evidence. RESULTS We included 152 studies (46 were new), comprising 20 944 participants. Topical interventions included brimonidine, oxymetazoline, metronidazole, azelaic acid, ivermectin and other topical treatments. Systemic interventions included oral antibiotics, combinations with topical treatments or other systemic treatments. Several studies evaluated laser or light-based treatment. We present the most current evidence for rosacea management based on a phenotype-led approach. CONCLUSIONS For reducing temporarily persistent erythema there was high-certainty evidence for topical brimonidine and moderate certainty for topical oxymetazoline; for erythema and mainly telangiectasia there was low-to-moderate-certainty evidence for laser and intense pulsed light therapy. For reducing papules/pustules there was high-certainty evidence for topical azelaic acid and topical ivermectin; moderate-to-high-certainty evidence for doxycycline 40 mg modified release (MR) and isotretinoin; and moderate-certainty evidence for topical metronidazole, and topical minocycline and oral minocycline being equally effective as doxycycline 40 mg MR. There was low-certainty evidence for tetracycline and low-dose minocycline. For ocular rosacea, there was moderate-certainty evidence that oral omega-3 fatty acids were effective and low-certainty evidence for ciclosporin ophthalmic emulsion and doxycycline.

Abstract
This study sought to investigate genes related to recurrent risk and establish a support vector machine (SVM) classifier for prediction of recurrent risk in gastric cancer (GC).Based on the gene expression profiling dataset GSE26253, feature genes that were significantly associated with survival time and status were screened out. Subsequently, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed for these feature genes, and genes in this network was optimized using betweenness centrality algorithm in order to identify genes potentially correlated with GC (named as GCGs). In total, 1202 feature genes were identified to be significantly associated with survival time and status of GC, among of which, 65 genes were identified as a classifier that was able to recognize recurrence and nonrecurrence GC cases with a high sensitivity and specificity, predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Furthermore, the classifier was able to reasonably classify tumor samples in GSE15459 into high and low recurrent risk groups. Among those genes, a set of genes were predicted to have interactions (e.g. RHOA interacting with TGFBR1, PRKACA and PLCG1; TGFBR1 interacting with TGFBR2) and be involved in pathways like MAPK signaling (e.g. TGFBR1 and TGFBR2), adherens junction (e.g. RHOA) and apoptosis (e.g. PRKACA).The genes in the classifier model may be related to GC recurrence, and the classifier model may contribute to the prediction of recurrent risk in GC.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder, and poses threats to human health worldwide. Recently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have been suggested to play important roles in the pathophysiology of T2D. In this study, we explored the role of miR-3666 in T2D. miR-3666 was significantly down-regulated in the serum of T2D patients when compared to that of healthy volunteers, and miR-3666 expression level was negatively correlated with blood glucose levels of T2D patients. Overexpression of miR-3666 inhibited cell proliferation, reduced insulin secretion, and promoted cell apoptosis of pancreatic β-cell line (INS-1 cells). On the other hand, knockdown of miR-3666 had the opposite effects in INS-1 cells. The bio-informatics analysis using TargetScan revealed that adiponectin (ADIPOQ) was a downstream target of miR-3666, and the interaction between miR-3666 and ADIPOQ was validated by luciferase reporter assay. In addition, miR-3666 negatively regulated the mRNA and protein expression of ADIPOQ. Overexpression of ADIPOQ promoted insulin secretion after glucose stimulation, promoted cell proliferation, inhibited cell apoptosis, and partially abolished the effects of miR-3666 overexpression on insulin secretion, cell proliferation, and cell apoptosis of INS-1 cells. In conclusion, our results revealed that miR-3666 inhibited pancreatic cell proliferation, reduced insulin sensitivity, and promoted apoptosis by targeting ADIPOQ.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer related death worldwide. Although great progress in diagnosis and management of HCC have been made, the exact molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. The study aims to identify potential biomarkers for HCC progression, mainly at transcription level. In this study, chip data GSE 29721 was utilized, which contains 10 HCC samples and 10 normal adjacent tissue samples. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between two sample types were selected by t-test method. Following, the differentially co-expressed genes (DCGs) and differentially co-expressed Links (DCLs) were identified by DCGL package in R with the threshold of q < 0.25. Afterwards, pathway enrichment analysis of the DCGs was carried out by DAVID. Then, DCLs were mapped to TRANSFAC database to reveal associations between relevant transcriptional factors (TFs) and their target genes. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR was performed for TFs or genes of interest. As a result, a total of 388 DCGs and 35,771 DCLs were obtained. The predominant pathways enriched by these genes were Cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, ECM-receptor interaction and TGF-β signaling pathway. Three TF-target interactions, LEF1-NCAM1, EGR1-FN1 and FOS-MT2A were predicted. Compared with control, expressions of the TF genes EGR1, FOS and ETS2 were all up-regulated in the HCC cell line, HepG2; while LEF1 was down-regulated. Except NCAM1, all the target genes were up-regulated in HepG2. Our findings suggest these TFs and genes might play important roles in the pathogenesis of HCC and may be used as therapeutic targets for HCC management.

Abstract
Purpose: The rapidly rising incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), which is usually diagnosed late with a poor prognosis, has become a growing problem. This study investigated the potential transcription factor (TF)-related molecular mechanisms of EAC by using bioinformatics analysis and qRT-PCR validation. Methods: Expression profile datasets for mRNAs (GSE92396, GSE13898, GSE26886 and GSE1420) and miRNAs (GSE16456) were downloaded from the GEO database. Overlapping differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) were identified through integrative analysis. Then, a TF-miRNA-mRNA network was constructed based on bioinformatics data from the TRRUST, TRED and miRTarBase database. Furthermore, overall survival analysis for the mRNAs and miRNAs in the TF-miRNA-mRNA network was performed with data from TCGA, and qRT-PCR was used to validate the results. Results: A total of 294 overlapping DEGs were identified in EAC tissues compared to normal tissues, including 181 downregulated and 113 upregulated genes. Then, 16 TFs that could target the DEGs and were related to cancer were predicted based on public databases, and 41 DEGs that could be targeted were identified as key genes. Additionally, 12 DEMs were predicted through miRTarBase to be associated with the key genes, and TP53-(miR-125b)-ID2 and JUN-(miR-30a)-IL1A from the TF-miRNA-mRNA network were identified to potentially play significant roles in EAC. Furthermore, CCL20, IL1A, ABCC3, hsa-miR-23b, and hsa-miR-191, which are involved in the TF-miRNA-mRNA network, were found to be significantly associated with patient survival in EAC. Finally, the expression of a miRNA-mRNA pair (hsa-miR-30a-5p and IL1A) was revealed to be correlated with prognosis. Conclusion: In this study, a TF-miRNA-mRNA network was constructed to analyze the potential molecular mechanisms of EAC. Key genes and miRNAs associated with patient survival were identified, which may reveal promising approaches for EAC diagnosis and therapy.

Abstract
Intestinal mucositis is a frequent side effect in cancer patients who are treated with chemotherapy. There are no effective treatment strategies to date. To find a novel way to alleviate mucositis, the effects of selenium-enriched Bifidobacterium longum (Se-B. longum) in preventing irinotecan (CPT-11)-induced intestinal mucositis in a mouse model were investigated. We tested the ability of Se-B. longum (Se 0.6 mg/kg, 5×108 cfu/mice) to reduce small intestinal mucositis induced by CPT-11 (75 mg/kg, daily) injected intraperitoneally for four consecutive days in mice. Se-B. longum significantly decreased mortality induced by CPT-11 from 71.4% to 16.7%. CPT-11 induced body weight loss, which was alleviated by preventative and simultaneous administration of Se-B. longum. Se-B. longum significantly decreased the severity of diarrhoea from 11 to 4% compared to the CPT-11 group. Inflammation, including intestinal shortening and upregulation of tumour necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β induced by CPT- 11, were prevented by Se-B. longum. Se-B. longum is effective in preventing small intestinal mucositis induced by CPT-11 and therefore has potential to be used clinically by cancer patients.

Abstract
Empty follicle syndrome (EFS) is a disorder associated with female infertility and presents as a complete failure to retrieve oocytes during ART cycles despite normal follicle development and careful aspiration. To date, only two EFS cases have been reported with homozygous missense mutations in the luteinizing hormone/chorionic gonadotropin receptor (LHCGR) gene, and both cases showed normal estradiol (E2) production during ovulation induction. The molecular genetic mechanisms of EFS remain unknown. Herein, we report two novel homozygous inactivating LHCGR mutations, c.736 C>T (p.Q246*) and c.846dupT (p.R283*), in two female EFS patients from unrelated consanguineous families. The probands had impaired E2 production during the ART process, which differs from previously reported EFS cases. The inactivating mutations not only led to EFS in the two female probands, but also resulted in 46, XY disorder of sex development (46, XY DSD) in their male siblings. As far as we know, this is the first report of LHCGR mutations leading to both EFS and 46, XY DSD within the same pedigree. Our findings provide researchers and clinicians with a better understanding of phenotype-genotype correlations between EFS and 46, XY DSD and the LHCGR gene.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the role of microRNA-203 in laryngeal cancer and its underlying mechanism and clarify the relationship between microRNA-203 and LASP1.Method: microRNA-203 expression in laryngeal cancer tissues and paracancerous tissues was detected by quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR). The regulatory effects of microRNA-203 on invasion and apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells were detected by Transwell assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay was performed to access the binding condition of microRNA-203 and LASP1. Both mRNA and protein levels of LASP1 in laryngeal cancer cells were detected after transfection with microRNA-203 mimic or microRNA-203 inhibitor by qRT-PCR and Western blot. Rescue experiments were finally performed to detect whether microRNA-203 regulates laryngeal cancer development via targeting LASP1. Result: microRNA-203 was lowly expressed in laryngeal cancer tissues and cell lines.Knockdown of microRNA-203 in Hep-2 cells can promote the invasiveness and inhibit apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells. Subsequently,LASP1 was predicted to be the target gene of microRNA-203,which was further verified by dual-luciferase reporter gene assay.LASP1 expression was negatively regulated by microRNA-203. Furthermore,rescue experiments showed that microRNA-203 regulates invasion and apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells via targeting LASP1. Conclusion: Low expression of microRNA-203 could promote the invasion and inhibit apoptosis of laryngeal cancer cells viainhibiting LASP1. microRNA-203 and LASP1 both play a very important role in the development of laryngeal cancer..

Abstract
Objective:To assess the role of LPR in the development of complications, such as hemorrhage, following tonsillectomy in adult patients. We want to provide a guidence for future clinical practice.Method:Totally 70 adult patients who had indication of tonsillectomy were recruited and divided into two groups, the laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) group and the control group, which were identified by the results of Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Score (RFS). We observed and compared the postoperative complications of the two groups and analyzed the role of LPR.Result:All the patients complained pain after surgery. The duration of the pain in LPR group was much longer than that of control group. The mean body temperature in both groups was not significantly different (P>0.05). There were six cases of bleeding in the LPR group, while only one case of bleeding occurred in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no cases of infection or pulmonary complications in both groups. All patients were discharged successfully.Conclusion:LPR is closely related to the complications following tonsillectomy.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the prevalence of iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in pregnant women in urban areas of China. Methods: The study was a national cross-sectional survey conducted from September 19th, 2016 to November 20th, 2016. According to the classification of the National Bureau of Statistics, all survey sites were set up in 6 regions of the country.Pregnant women were continuously selected using multistage stratified sampling. A total of 12 403 pregnant women were collected and examined for serum ferritin and hemoglobin levels. Results: The median serum ferritin level during pregnancy was 20.60 μg/L (11.78-36.98 μg/L) , the hemoglobin level was (118±12) g/L. With the progress of pregnancy, the levels of serum ferritin and hemoglobin decreased gradually. The median serum ferritin levels in the first, second trimester and third trimester were 54.30 μg/L (34.48-94.01 μg/L) , 28.60 μg/L (16.40-50.52 μg/L) , and 16.70 μg/L (10.20-27.00 μg/L) respectively (P<0.01) . The mean hemoglobin levels were (127±10) g/L, (119±11) g/L and (117±11) g/L respectively (P<0.01) . The prevalence of ID in urban pregnant women was 48.16% (5 973/12 403) , and IDA prevalence was 13.87% (1 720/12 403) . The prevalence of IDA in the first, second trimester and third trimester were 1.96% (20/1 019) , 8.40% (293/3 487) and 17.82% (1 407/7 897) ,respectively (P<0.01) . The prevalence of standardized ID and IDA were significantly different in various regions of China (P<0.01) . The standardized prevalence of ID were relatively higher in East China and Northeast China, 57.37% and 53.41% respectively, while it was the lowest in Southwest China, 30.51%. The standardized prevalence of IDA in South Central, Northwest, and East China were relatively high, 21.30%, 16.97% and 17.53% respectively, and the standardized prevalence of IDA in Southwest China was the lowest, 5.44%, the differents in various regions were significant (all P<0.01) . Conclusion: The current phenomenon of ID and IDA in pregnant women is still very common, and nutrition and health care during pregnancy should be strengthened.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to explore risk factors of postoperative complications for adult patients with incarcerated groin hernia (IGH). Methods From January 2010 to December 2017, consecutive patients undergoing emergency hernia repair for IGH in our center were retrospectively reviewed. Postoperative complications, such as surgical site infection, seroma, hernia recurrence and mortality, were investigated, with risk factors for such complications analyzed using univariate and multivariate regressions. Results Sixty-four patients were included, with 51 males and 13 females (mean age 65.1, range 25–98 years). Ten patients (15.6%) underwent resection of necrotic bowel and anastomosis. 43 patients (67.2%) received open tension-free herniorrhaphy with polypropylene mesh, whereas the rest (32.8%) received herniorrhaphy without mesh. The overall postoperative complication rate was 40.6% (26/64), with an incisional complication rate of 31.2% (20/64) and an infection rate of 6.2% (4/64). At a median follow-up of 32 months, hernia recurrence and mortality were recorded in five cases each (7.8%). Mesh repair was associated with decreased recurrence rate compared with non-mesh repair (2.3% vs. 19.0%, p = 0.019). Diabetes mellitus (OR 8.611, 95%CI 1.292–57.405; p = 0.026) was an independent risk factor of postoperative complications, together with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD; OR 14.365, 95%CI 1.652–127.767, p = 0.016), intestinal necrosis (OR 14.260, 95%CI 1.079–188.460, p = 0.044), and general anesthesia (OR 14.543, 95%CI 1.682–125.711, p = 0.015) as risk for incisional complications after surgery. Conclusions Diabetes mellitus was an independent risk factor of postoperative complications for IGH, along with COPD, intestinal necrosis and general anesthesia associated with incisional complications. The use of polypropylene mesh did not increase infection or recurrence rate in this cohort.
