Abstract
In this study, we evaluate the magnetic properties and cytotoxic effect of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) based on magnetite and Mn, Co and Ni ferrites, obtained by electrochemical synthesis. These nanoparticles have almost spherical shape and an mode size of 9±1 nm. The electrochemical synthesis produces a single crystallographic phase with a spinel-like structure in all cases. Magnetization saturation at room temperature varies with the composition of the ferrites from MS (Fe₃O₄) > MS (MnFe₂O₄) > MS (CoFe₂O₄) > MS (NiFe₂O₄). Ferrite MNPs present low magnetic remanence indicating a superparamagnetic-like response at room temperature. However, the different values of magnetic anisotropy and size produce variations in the values of coercivity and susceptibility of the ferrite MNPs. The cytotoxicity of the different ferrites was evaluated by internalizing MNP in HeLa cancer cells. Although magnetite and Mn ferrite present low toxicity for all the concentrations studied, significant cytotoxic effect were observed when incubating the cells with high concentration of Co and Ni ferrites.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Effects of osteoporosis drugs on proximal femur cortical and trabecular bone were studied using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA)-based 3D modeling method. Changes observed in this head-to-head study were consistent with those obtained using computed tomography in the literature. INTRODUCTION The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of osteoporosis drugs on cortical and trabecular bone at the proximal femur using DXA-based 3D modeling. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 155 patients stratified by treatments: naive of treatment (NAIVE), alendronate (AL), denosumab (DMAB), and teriparatide (TPTD). DXA scans were performed at baseline and after treatment, and areal bone mineral density at spine and femur were measured. A software algorithm (3D-SHAPER) was used to derive 3D models from hip DXA scans and compute: trabecular and cortical volumetric BMD (vBMD), cortical thickness (Cth), and cortical surface BMD (cortical sBMD). Changes from baseline were normalized at 24 months and evaluated in terms or percentage. RESULTS After 24 months, a non-significant decrease was observed for trabecular vBMD, Cortical sBMD, Cth, and cortical vBMD (- 2.3, - 0.8, - 0.3, and - 0.5%) in the NAIVE group. Under AL and DMAB, significant increases were observed in trabecular vBMD (3.8 and 7.3%), cortical vBMD (1.4 and 2.0%), and cortical sBMD (1.5 and 3.6%). An increase in Cth was observed in patients under DMAB (1.8%). Under TPTD, a significant increase in Trabecular vBMD was observed (5.9%) associated with a non-significant increase of Cth (+ 1%) concomitant with a decrease in cortical vBMD (- 1.1%). CONCLUSION Results obtained in this head-to-head study are consistent with those obtained using computed tomography in the literature. DXA-based modeling techniques could complement standard DXA examination to monitor treatment effects on trabecular and cortical compartments.

Abstract
This research underlines the need to improve water management policies for areas linked to confined karstic aquifers subjected to intensive exploitation, and to develop additional efforts towards monitoring their subsidence evolution. We analyze subsidence related to intensive use of groundwater in a confined karstic aquifer, through the use of the InSAR technique, by the southern coast of Spain (Costa del Sol). Carbonates are overlain by an unconfined detritic aquifer with interlayered high transmissivity rocks, in connection with the Mediterranean Sea, where the water level is rather stable. Despite this, an accumulated deformation in the line-of-sight (LOS) direction greater than -100 mm was observed by means of the ERS-1/2 (1992-2000) and Envisat (2003-2009) satellite SAR sensors. During this period, the Costa del Sol experienced a major population increase due to the expansion of the tourism industry, with the consequent increase in groundwater exploitation. The maximum LOS displacement rates recorded during both time spans are respectively -6 mm/yr and -11 mm/yr, respectively. During the entire period, there was an accumulated descent of the confined water level of 140 m, and several fluctuations of more than 80 m correlating with the subsidence trend observed for the whole area. Main sedimentary depocenters (up to 800 m), revealed by gravity prospecting, partly coincide with areas of subsidence maxima; yet ground deformation is also influenced by other factors, the main ones being the fine-grained facies distribution and rapid urbanization due to high touristic pressure.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: In México, there are more than 57 million women with breast cancer, and more than 7 million of these patients live in Mexico State; 12.4% of breast cancer diagnosis are being made in here. The diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast cancer changes their quality of life (QOL) on a physical, psychological, social and sexual basis.
Objectives: The main purpose of this study is to examine the changes in the QOL of breast cancer patients treated at the State of Mexico Cancer Center (ISSEMyM), applying the EORT QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BR23. The secondary aim of the study is to describe the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), including partner relationships, sexual function, and body image concerns of breast cancer survivors. (BCS).
Design: A longitudinal, prospective, descriptive and analytical cohort study was made; with bivariate analysis and correlations search. We used Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for normal continuous variables. To evaluate changes in follow-up we use ANOVA test of repeated measures and post-hoc analysis. Significance was set at p <0.05
Method: QOL questionnaires were applied every 4 months followed for a year, the first one being done before the patient was informed of confirmed breast cancer diagnosis. A sample of 112 women with primary breast cancer were enrolled. The sample type is probability, non-confessional, consecutive cases.
Results: Primary cancer treatment has a negative impact on QOL comparing to data collected at the basal assessment (before confirmatory diagnosis of cancer). Average age 54 years (25-85). FIGO stage in situ in 5%, Ia, IIa and IIb 18%, IIIa 8%, IIIb 6%, IIIc 12% and IV 15%. LuminalA 40%, LuminalB 24%, Her2 15%, Triple negative 21%. The mean overall health score was 64.7±26.7 at baseline and 65.8±19.3, 65.3±19.6, 72.1±15.1 at 4.8 and 12 months, respectively. Physical, emotional, cognitive, sexual and social functioning, as well as symptoms and sexual pleasure present statistical significance (p.0000) regardless of age, stage or treatment received.
Conclusions: This is the first longitudinal, prospective, descriptive and analytical cohort made in Mexico that assesses changes in QOL of breast cancer patients. There is a significant decrease in post-surgery physical function in our patients. However, there is no significant difference between the results observed in patients undergoing conservative surgery versus those who received radical surgery, nor for patients receiving surgery plus radiation therapy versus surgery plus systemic therapy. Also in the body image category component in our study, an important decrease in the QOL of the patients undergoing surgery is demonstrated, this is more evident in early stages of disease. In patients who recieved chemotherapy, symptoms were a negative influence in QOL and just near a half came to a basal status a year after treatment started. Finally, patients with surgery as first treatment have a faster return to their basal QOL.
This work opens an invaluable opportunity to improve our medical behavior towards breast cancer patients, treated at the ISSEMyM State of Mexico Cancer Center. It obliges us to create a multidisciplinary team that permanently assesses patients, identifying the aspects of their daily work, which alter their QOL.

Hiccups in Parkinson's disease: an analysis of cases reported in the European pharmacovigilance database and a review of the literature. Eur J Clin Pharmacol 2017; 73:1159-1164. Abstract
BACKGROUND Some reports have suggested an association between dopamine agonists and hiccups, involuntary contractions that merit full clinical attention because they can be very debilitating. Many drugs frequently used to treat hiccups are formally contraindicated in Parkinson's disease due to their liability to worsen motor symptoms, making the treatment of hiccups problematic in this disease. The objective of the present study was to analyze all spontaneous reports of hiccups from the European Pharmacovigilance Database in patients with Parkinson's disease and/or on dopaminergic drugs. Finally, we sought to identify evidence-based recommendations on the management of hiccups in Parkinson's disease. METHODS We searched for all reports of hiccups in the European Pharmacovigilance Database (EudraVigilance) and calculated proportional reporting ratios for dopamine agonists and hiccups. We reviewed the literature on Parkinson's disease, dopamine agonists, and hiccups, searching for specific treatment recommendations for hiccups in this disease. RESULTS Both rotigotine and pramipexole fulfilled the criteria to generate a safety signal. We found 32 and 13 cases of hiccups associated with dopamine agonists in EudraVigilance and the literature, respectively. There were no specific recommendations for the management of hiccups in Parkinson's disease in the clinical guidelines consulted. CONCLUSIONS We have found evidence that rotigotine and pramipexole are associated with the appearance of hiccups and that this adverse reaction occurs predominantly in males. Given the scarce information available, specific recommendations are needed in clinical guidelines for the adequate management of hiccups in Parkinson's disease.

Abstract
Currently in Chile, there are about 42 nuclear medicine centres that mainly use 99mTc and 131I in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Therefore, staff performs various tasks that increase the risk of internal incorporation and the need to implement routine monitoring programmes. This article shows tools for self-monitoring of staff who exposed to 131I from measurements in thyroid and urine samples, using the gamma cameras of Nuclear Medicine Units. Then, the calibration factors of gamma cameras of participating units were determined, and a one-worker dose was calculated due to internal incorporation, using an Excel spreadsheet for self-monitoring. The worker who handles 131I in one of the studied units was monitored for 6 months. The goal of this study is to implement a routine self-monitoring programme for the estimation of committed effective dose of staff exposed to 131I using gamma cameras in Nuclear Medicine Units of clinical centres in Chile.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals with factor V Leiden or prothrombin G20210A mutations are at a higher risk to develop venous thromboembolism. However, the influence of these polymorphisms on patient outcome during anticoagulant therapy has not been consistently explored. METHODS We used the Registro Informatizado de Enfermedad TromboEmbólica database to compare rates of venous thromboembolism recurrence and bleeding events occurring during the anticoagulation course in factor V Leiden carriers, prothrombin mutation carriers, and noncarriers. RESULTS Between March 2001 and December 2015, 10,139 patients underwent thrombophilia testing. Of these, 1384 were factor V Leiden carriers, 1115 were prothrombin mutation carriers, and 7640 were noncarriers. During the anticoagulation course, 160 patients developed recurrent deep vein thrombosis and 94 patients developed pulmonary embolism (16 died); 154 patients had major bleeding (10 died), and 291 patients had nonmajor bleeding. On multivariable analysis, factor V Leiden carriers had a similar rate of venous thromboembolism recurrence (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.16; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82-1.64), half the rate of major bleeding (adjusted HR, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.25-0.99) and a nonsignificantly lower rate of nonmajor bleeding (adjusted HR, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.43-1.01) than noncarriers. Prothrombin mutation carriers and noncarriers had a comparable rate of venous thromboembolism recurrence (adjusted HR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.68-1.48), major bleeding (adjusted HR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.42-1.34), and nonmajor bleeding events (adjusted HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.77-1.57). CONCLUSIONS During the anticoagulation course, factor V Leiden carriers had a similar risk for venous thromboembolism recurrence and half the risk for major bleeding compared with noncarriers. This finding may contribute to decision-making regarding anticoagulation duration in selected factor V Leiden carriers with venous thromboembolism.
