Utility of magnetic resonance imaging for differentiating malignant mesenchymal tumors of the uterus from T2-weighted hyperintense leiomyomas

PURPOSE

To generate a new discrimination method to distinguish between malignant mesenchymal tumors of the uterus and T2-weighted hyperintense leiomyoma based on magnetic resonance imaging findings and clinical features.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Data from 32 tumors of 32 patients with malignant mesenchymal tumors of the uterus and from 34 tumors of 30 patients with T2-weighted hyperintense leiomyoma were analyzed. Clinical parameters, qualitative magnetic resonance imaging features, including computed diffusion-weighted imaging, and quantitative characteristics of magnetic resonance imaging of these two tumor types were compared. Predictive values for malignant mesenchymal tumors of the uterus were calculated using variant discriminant analysis.

RESULTS

The T1 bright area on qualitative assessment and mean apparent diffusion coefficient value on quantitative assessment yielded the most independent magnetic resonance imaging differentiators of malignant mesenchymal tumors of the uterus and T2-weighted hyperintense leiomyoma. The classification accuracy of the variant discriminant analysis based on three selected findings, i.e., a T1 bright area, computed diffusion-weighted imaging with a b-value of 2000s/mm² (cDWI₂₀₀₀), and T2-hypointense bands, was 84.8% (56/66), indicating high accuracy.

CONCLUSIONS

Variant discriminant analysis using the T1 bright area, cDWI₂₀₀₀, and T2-hypointense bands yielded high accuracy for differentiating between malignant mesenchymal tumors of the uterus and T2-weighted hyperintense leiomyoma.

Risk factors for thrombocytopenia and analysis of time to platelet transfusion after azacitidine treatment

The use of azacitidine (AZA) has been known to lead to a high incidence of hematotoxic adverse events. The aims of this study were to identify the risk factors for thrombocytopenia after the administration of AZA and to analyze time to the initial platelet transfusion. Sixty-two patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), who were treated with AZA in Gifu Municipal Hospital between March 2012 and June 2020, were included in this study. The risk factors for thrombocytopenia were identified using univariate analysis of patient characteristics, disease type, and laboratory values immediately before the start of treatment. Variables with p<0.2 identified in the univariate analysis were used as independent variables in the multivariate analysis. This analysis identified "creatinine clearance (CCr) <60 mL/min" as a significant factor (odds ratio, 4.790; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.380-16.70; p=0.014). Subsequently, time in days to the initial platelet transfusion after the initial administration of AZA was analyzed using the log-rank test. The overall median time in days to platelet transfusion was 370 days. The log-rank test was used to determine the influence of patient characteristics, disease type, and laboratory values immediately before the start of treatment. The subsequent Cox proportional hazard regression analysis using variables with p<0.2 as independent variables identified "hemoglobin (Hb) <8.0 g/dL" as a significant factor (hazard ratio, 2.143; 95% CI, 1.001-4.573; p=0.048). The results of this study led to the following clinical implications: first, patients with CCr of <60 mL/min at the start of treatment should be treated with caution due to the risk of thrombocytopenia. Second, patients with Hb of <8.0 g/dL at the start of treatment may require platelet transfusion in the early stage of treatment.

Tumor immunity is related to 18 F-FDG uptake in thymic epithelial tumor

Background

2‐deoxy‐2‐[fluorine‐18] fluoro‐d‐glucose (¹⁸F‐FDG) positron emission tomography (¹⁸F‐FDG‐PET) is a convenient modality to assess the metabolic activity within tumor cells. However, there is no consensus regarding the relationship between ¹⁸F‐FDG uptake and the immune environment in thymic epithelial tumors (TETs). We conducted a clinicopathological study to elucidate the relationship between ¹⁸F‐FDG uptake and programmed death ligands 1 and 2 (PD‐L1/PD‐L2) expression in patients with TETs. Methods: A total of 108 patients with histologically confirmed TETs classified as thymomas or thymic carcinomas who underwent surgical resection or biopsy or needle biopsy and ¹⁸F‐FDG PET before any treatment between August 2007 and March 2020 were enrolled in this study. Tumor specimens underwent immunohistochemical staining for PD‐L1, PD‐L2, GLUT1, HIF‐1α, VEGFR2, VEGF‐C, and β2 adrenergic receptor. Results: High uptakes of SUV_max, SUV_mean, MTV, and TLG were identified in 28 (25.9%), 61 (56.5%), 55 (50.9%), and 55 (50.9%) of 108 patients, respectively. High uptake of SUV_max significantly correlated with PS (performance status) of 1–2, thymic carcinoma, and advanced stage, and SUV_max on ¹⁸F‐FDG uptake displayed a close association with PD‐L1 and PD‐L2 expressions, but not with MTV and TLG. Our analysis revealed that SUV_max was identified as being significant relationship for positive PD‐L1/PD‐L2 expression. GLUT1, HIF‐1α, and VEGFR2 were significantly associated with the expression of PD‐L1/PD‐L2 from the biological viewpoint.

Conclusion

¹⁸F‐FDG accumulation was closely associated with the expression of PD‐L1/PD‐L2, which, in turn, was correlated with glucose metabolism and hypoxia. PD‐L1/PD‐L2 could affect the glucose metabolism and hypoxia in thymic tumor cells.

A multi-ethnic analysis of immune-related gene expression signatures in patients with ovarian clear cell carcinoma

Little is known about the immune environment of ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) and its impact on various ethnic backgrounds. The aim of this OCCC immune‐related gene expression signatures (irGES) study was to address the interaction between tumour and immune environment of ethnically‐diverse Asian and Caucasian populations and to identify relevant molecular subsets of biological and clinical importance. Our study included 264 women from three different countries (Singapore, Japan, and the UK) and identified four novel immune subtypes (PD1‐high, CTLA4‐high, antigen‐presentation, and pro‐angiogenic subtype) with differentially expressed pathways, and gene ontologies using the NanoString nCounter PanCancer Immune Profiling Panel. The PD1‐high and CTLA4‐high subtypes demonstrated significantly higher PD1, PDL1, and CTLA4 expression, and were associated with poorer clinical outcomes. Mismatch repair (MMR) protein expression, assessed by immunohistochemistry, revealed that about 5% of OCCCs had deficient MMR expression. The prevalence was similar across the three countries and appeared to cluster in the CTLA4‐high subtype. Our results suggest that OCCC from women of Asian and Caucasian descent shares significant clinical and molecular similarities. To our knowledge, our study is the first study to include both Asian and Caucasian women with OCCC and helps to shine light on the impact of ethnic differences on the immune microenvironment of OCCC. © 2021 The Authors. Lethal macrophage-related complications of juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia with a blastic crisis: an autopsy case report

For hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to be successful, complications must be managed. Graft-versus-host disease is particularly important, but various other complications, treatment side effects, and relapse of primary disease may also occur. We report an autopsy case of juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia with a blastic crisis, in which activated and recovered autologous macrophage-related complications after cord blood transplantation caused the patient's death. Pathological analysis of autopsy specimens revealed diffuse infiltration of mature macrophages into the skin but scarce lymphocytes. These macrophages were found in the bone marrow interspersed with a small number of blasts that had previously occupied about 60% of the bone marrow before death. The direct cause of death was an opportunistic airway infection due to bone marrow and immune failures triggered by overactivation and proliferation of macrophages. Genetic analysis showed the activated macrophages were autologous. Together these findings indicate that the patient died from macrophage-mediated complications, but not from a blastic crisis or conventional graft-versus-host disease. When macrophage activation persists after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, macrophage-mediated complications should be considered as a differential diagnosis. To manage this complication, pathology specimens should be examined to check for the presence of effector cells at an early stage.

Cytological features of BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma: Comparison with Ewing sarcoma and synovial sarcoma

INTRODUCTION

BCOR-CCNB3 sarcoma (BCS) is one of the histological types classified as an undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma of bone and soft tissue. This sarcoma frequently develops in males under 20 years of age. Histologically, a delicate capillary network has been reported as a conspicuous finding. In this study, the cytological findings of BCS were observed in two cases of primary lesions and one case of a lung metastatic lesion. The cytological findings of BCS were compared with its histological mimics, and the characteristic findings of BCS were examined.

METHODS

Three cases of BCS were studied, and a cytological comparison was performed with 8 cases of Ewing sarcoma (ES) and 10 cases of synovial sarcoma (SS; monophasic type: 7 cases, biphasic type: 2 cases, poorly differentiated: 1 case).

RESULTS

In all BCS cases, small clusters with thin and delicate vascular cores and tiny vascular fragments were conspicuous. In ES and SS cases, although small clusters with vascular cores were observed, the vascular cores were thicker than in BCS, and no tiny vascular fragments appeared in most cases. Cytomorphological differences of tumour cells were also observed among BCS, ES, and SS. Predominantly rounded nuclei with fine chromatin and inconspicuous nucleoli can be cytological clues for BCS.

CONCLUSIONS

BCS shows characteristic cytological findings that make the diagnosis of BCS more likely than that of ES and SS. Cytological evaluation is a useful tool for appropriate differential diagnosis that leads to a more accurate final diagnosis and rapid treatment.

Expression of LAT1 and 4F2hc in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

BACKGROUND/AIM

Little is known about the expression of L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1) and 4F2hc in gastroenteropancreatic-neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs). Hence, we conducted a study to verify the clinicopathological significance of LAT1 and 4F2hc.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Tissues from 126 patients with GEP-NENs were collected between August 2007 and August 2019 at our institution. We evaluated LAT1 and 4F2hc expression by immunohistochemistry, and examined their clinical significance.

RESULTS

No statistically significant associations were observed between LAT1 expression and the different NENs. Expression of 4F2hc was significantly different between neuroendocrine tumour (NET)-G1, NET-G2, and NET-G3 (p=0.029), and was significantly associated with vascular invasion (p=0.044) and the Ki-67 index (p=0.042).

CONCLUSION

No association between LAT1 expression and malignant features in GEP-NENs was observed. However, an association between 4F2hc expression and the potential of malignancy in GEP-NENs was evident.

Pairing Forces Govern Population of Doubly Magic ^{54}Ca from Direct Reactions

Direct proton-knockout reactions of ^{55}Sc at ∼220  MeV/nucleon were studied at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. Populated states of ^{54}Ca were investigated through γ-ray and invariant-mass spectroscopy. Level energies were calculated from the nuclear shell model employing a phenomenological internucleon interaction. Theoretical cross sections to states were calculated from distorted-wave impulse approximation estimates multiplied by the shell model spectroscopic factors, which describe the wave function overlap of the ^{55}Sc ground state with states in ^{54}Ca. Despite the calculations showing a significant amplitude of excited neutron configurations in the ground-state of ^{55}Sc, valence proton removals populated predominantly the ground state of ^{54}Ca. This counterintuitive result is attributed to pairing effects leading to a dominance of the ground-state spectroscopic factor. Owing to the ubiquity of the pairing interaction, this argument should be generally applicable to direct knockout reactions from odd-even to even-even nuclei.

Effects of polypharmacy on the prevalence of adverse drug events resulting in outpatient visits and hospitalization

A high proportion of hospitalizations is attributable to the prevalence of adverse drug events. This retrospective study included outpatients and inpatients to determine the prevalence of adverse drug events and if polypharmacy increases it. The prevalence, classification, and causality of adverse drug events were assessed based on medical records, laboratory values, and other data. Multivariate analysis (multiple logistic regression analysis) was performed with the presence or absence of adverse drug events at the time of the visit as the dependent variable and items for which the P-value was <0.25 in the univariate analysis as independent variables. The prevalence of adverse drug events was 13.0%, 10.9%, and 16.0% among all patients, the outpatient group, and the inpatient group, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that polypharmacy (≥5 drugs) significantly increased the risk of adverse drug events in all patients. The prevalence of adverse drug events significantly increased with each additional drug used. We expect that minimizing the number of medications through moderation of the number of prescription drugs and elimination of polypharmacy will reduce the number of outpatient visits and hospitalizations due to adverse drug events.

Up-regulation of HDAC6 Results in Poor Prognosis and Chemoresistance in Patients With Advanced Ovarian High-grade Serous Carcinoma

BACKGROUND

Ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) gradually acquires chemoresistance after recurrence. Our previous study on ovarian clear-cell carcinoma found histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) overexpression led to chemoresistance. This study aimed to evaluate HDAC6 as a predictor of chemoresistance and a therapeutic target for ovarian HGSC.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

The clinical significance of HDAC6 as a predictor of prognosis and chemoresistance in HGSC was immunohistochemically evaluated. In addition, expression of programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF1α) were analyzed using clinical samples from 88 patients with ovarian HGSC, and their clinicopathological characteristics were reviewed.

RESULTS

Twenty-three patients had high HDAC6 expression, 10 positive PD-L1 expression, and 33 high HIF-1α expression. HDAC6 up-regulation was correlated with not undergoing interval debulking surgery (p<0.001), incomplete surgical resection (p=0.002), and frequent occurrence of stable disease/progressive disease according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (p=0.005) criteria. On Kaplan-Meier analysis, high HDAC6 expression was significantly associated with reduced progression-free (p=0.001) and overall (p=0.008) survival. On multivariate analysis, high HDAC6 expression (hazard ratio=1.65, 95% confidence interval 1.03-2.66; p=0.039) and surgery status were independent prognostic factors of progression-free survival. PD-L1 and HIF1α expression positively correlated with that of HDAC6.

CONCLUSION

HDAC6 may become a potential therapeutic target in patients with ovarian HGSC since its up-regulation is considered to be associated with a poor prognosis in patients with this cancer.

The hybrid procedure of thoracoscopic and hand-assisted laparoscopic resection of an esophageal gastrointestinal stromal tumor: A case report

Esophageal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (E-GIST) are very rare tumors, and there is no consensus regarding the optimal surgical approach for E-GISTs. Here, we report a case of a large E-GIST that was resected via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS). When examining for comorbidities of myasthenia gravis using computed tomography, a 7-cm-sized tumor was detected in the lower esophagus of a 68-year-old woman. Further examination revealed the tumor to be an E-GIST with high malignant potential, and thus, esophagectomy was performed. The hybrid procedure for VATS and HALS techniques was safe and minimally invasive for this E-GIST that required esophagectomy. Thus, esophagectomy with VATS and HALS is thought to be a reasonable surgical option for resecting large E-GISTs, for which enucleation is not recommended.

Intracytoplasmic dot-like inclusions as cytopathologically useful findings of ependymoma: Case report of adolescent supratentorial anaplastic ependymoma with clear cell morphology

Pediatric supratentorial ependymomas often have a clear cell morphology and reveal a RELA fusion. When a clear cell neoplasm is intraoperatively diagnosed, intracytoplasmic dot-like inclusions by cytology are a useful cytopathological feature of ependymoma.

Diverse pathological lesions of primary aldosteronism and their clinical significance

Primary aldosteronism (PA) is mainly clinically classified as unilateral aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) or bilateral idiopathic hyperaldosteronism. Immunohistochemistry for aldosterone synthase reveals a diverse PA pathology, including pathological APA and aldosterone-producing cell clusters. The relationship between PA pathology and adrenalectomy outcomes was examined herein. Data from 219 unilaterally adrenalectomized PA cases were analyzed. Pathological analyses revealed diverse putative aldosterone-producing lesions. Postoperative biochemical outcomes in 114 cases (test cohort) were classified as complete success (n = 85), partial success (n = 19), and absent success (n = 10). Outcomes in the large and small PA lesion groups, rather than between PA lesion types, were compared at five threshold values for PA lesion sizes (2-6 mm with 1-mm increments) to streamline the results. The proportion of complete success was significantly higher in the large PA lesion group than in the small PA lesion group at the 5-mm threshold only. The proportion of absent success was significantly higher in the small PA lesion group than in the large PA lesion group at all thresholds. Univariate and multivariate analyses of the test cohort identified serum K as an independent predictive factor for the small PA lesion group, which was confirmed in the 105-case validation cohort. Chi-squared automatic interaction detector analysis revealed that the best threshold of serum K for predicting large PA lesions was 2.82 mEq/L. These results will be beneficial for treating PA in clinical settings because patients with low serum K levels and apparent adrenal masses on CT may be subjected to adrenalectomy even if the adrenal venous sampling test is unavailable.

Hypoxia-inducible Factor-1α Suppression in Ovarian Clear-cell Carcinoma Cells by Silibinin Administration

BACKGROUND/AIM

Advanced ovarian clear-cell carcinoma (CCC) fails to respond to standard chemotherapy, and has a poor prognosis. Since hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) stimulates various genes involved in cancer, we aimed to examine the efficacy of silibinin, an active component of milk thistle belonging to Asteraceae, in suppressing HIF-1 activity, and elucidate the underlying mechanism in human CCC cell lines.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Human ovarian CCC cell lines HAC-2, OVISE, and RMG-1 were treated with 500 μM silibinin for 4 h under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. Using DNA microarray, we analysed genes whose expression modulated more than 2-fold in response to hypoxia, whereas HIF-1α expression was measured using ELISA.

RESULTS

Silibinin treatment decreased HIF-1α protein in all cell lines, and eIF4E2 and RPS6 mRNA in HAC-2 and RMG-1 cells.

CONCLUSION

Silibinin suppressed HIF-1α protein under hypoxic conditions in CCC cell lines and could be a potential anti-cancer drug.

Distribution of CD1a-positive cells is not different between pseudolymphomatous folliculitis and primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma

Pseudolymphomatous folliculitis (PLF) is a subtype of cutaneous pseudolymphoma that is recognized as an independent disease. PLF is characterized by dermal lymphocytic infiltration surrounding an irregular hyperplastic pilosebaceous unit (i.e., activated pilosebaceous unit). An interstitial distribution of CD1a-positive cells is regarded as an important feature of PLF, especially in distinguishing it from primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma (PCMZL), which is associated with a peripheral concentration of CD1a-positive cells. We undertook a clinicopathological investigation of PLF, with a reassessment of CD1a immunohistochemistry. We defined diagnostic criteria for PLF based on past studies and consequently identified 79 cases. In addition, we collected 32 cases of PCMZL and performed detailed clinical, pathological, and immunohistochemical investigations using antibodies to CD3, CD20, and CD1a. We found an interstitial concentration of CD1a-positive cells in 90.2% of PLF and 34.5% of PCMZL cases. The peripheral concentration of CD1a-positive cells was seen in 9.8% of PLF and 34.5% of PCMZL cases. In both diseases, CD1a-positive cells appeared in T-cell nests (88.5% in PLF and 92.9% in PCMZL) but were absent in B-cell nests (0% in both groups). All 79 cases of PLF showed activated pilosebaceous units while 22 of the 32 PCMZL cases displayed pilosebaceous units, although none of these were activated. In summary, regarding the distribution patterns of CD1a-positive cells as a diagnostic feature in distinguishing between PLF and PCMZL is somewhat inconclusive. To differentiate PLF and PCMZL, determining the presence or absence of activated pilosebaceous units is essential.

Roles of cytokines and T cells in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue caused by the presence of autoantibodies against the acetylcholine receptor (AChR) or the muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (MuSK). Activated T, B and plasma cells, as well as cytokines, play important roles in the production of pathogenic autoantibodies and the induction of inflammation at the neuromuscular junction in MG. Many studies have focused on the role of cytokines and lymphocytes in anti-AChR antibody-positive MG. Chronic inflammation mediated by T helper type 17 (Th17) cells, the promotion of autoantibody production from B cells and plasma cells by follicular Th (Tfh) cells and the activation of the immune response by dysfunction of regulatory T (T_reg ) cells may contribute to the exacerbation of the MG pathogenesis. In fact, an increased number of Th17 cells and Tfh cells and dysfunction of T_reg cells have been reported in patients with anti-AChR antibody-positive MG; moreover, the number of these cells was correlated with clinical parameters in patients with MG. Regarding cytokines, interleukin (IL)-17; a Th17-related cytokine, IL-21 (a Tfh-related cytokine), the B-cell-activating factor (BAFF; a B cell-related cytokine) and a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL; a B cell-related cytokine) have been reported to be up-regulated and associated with clinical parameters of MG. This review focuses on the current understanding of the involvement of cytokines and lymphocytes in the immunological pathogenesis of MG, which may lead to the development of novel therapies for this disease in the near future.

Serum level of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) as a disease severity marker of myasthenia gravis: a pilot study

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoantibody-mediated inflammatory disease of the neuromuscular junction. Biomarkers indicating disease activity in MG are warranted. Recently, the soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) has been reported to be associated with inflammation, tissue damage, disease activity and prognosis in various diseases, including autoimmune diseases. In this study, serum suPAR levels were measured in 40 patients with anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive MG and 30 controls, and their correlations with clinical variables and severity scale scores were investigated. We identified that serum suPAR levels significantly correlated with MG activities of daily living scale (Spearman's ρ = 0·45; P = 0·004) and MG Foundation of America classification (Spearman's ρ = 0·37; P = 0·02) at serum sampling, but not with anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody titers. In conclusion, serum suPAR levels can be a candidate for a novel biomarker of disease activity in anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive MG.

Primary thymic adenocarcinoma with an aggressive clinical course: An autopsy case showing signet ring cell-like features

Thymic adenocarcinoma is an extremely rare neoplasm, and little is known about its pathogenesis and clinical characteristics. A 52‐year‐old man presented to our clinic with severe dyspnea. At initial presentation, massive carcinomatous pleuritis and pericarditis were observed, and a lobulated mass in the anterior mediastinum was found on computed tomography. Cytological examination revealed adenocarcinoma accompanied by signet ring cells; however, his tumor showed aggressive growth without any possibility of treatment, and he died as a result of cancer progression within one month of admission. An autopsy confirmed thymic adenocarcinoma showing various histological features including mucinous, signet ring cell‐like, and trabecular features. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for cytokeratin (CK) (AE1/AE3) but negative for TTF‐1. In addition, some tumor cells were positive for CD5 and KIT. Further examination revealed that tumor cells of the nonmucinous type were positive for CK7, and negative for CK20 and caudal‐type homeobox 2 (CDX2). The tumor cells with mucinous and signet ring‐like features were positive for CK20 and CDX2 and negative for CK7, indicating enteric differentiation. In particular, tumor cells with signet ring cell‐like features indicated widespread lymphangitic carcinomatosis and pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM). The presence of signet ring cell‐like features with enteric differentiation is suggestive of a fulminant clinical course due to widespread lymphangiosis carcinomatosa and PTTM in patients with thymic adenocarcinoma.

Changes in serum complements and their regulators in generalized myasthenia gravis

OBJECTIVE

To investigate changes in serum complements and their regulators in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis (MG).

METHODS

Forty-four patients with acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive MG, as well as 20 patients with non-inflammatory neurological disorders were enrolled. Serum complements (C3, C4 and soluble C5b-9) and complement regulators (vitronectin, clusterin and properdin) were extensively analysed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and their associations with clinical profiles of MG were examined.

RESULTS

Serum C3, C4 and clusterin levels were not significantly different between patients with MG and controls. The patients with MG had higher soluble C5b-9 (P = 0.09) and vitronectin (P = 0.001) levels than the controls; moreover, vitronectin levels decreased after treatment (P = 0.09). Serum properdin (P = 0.03) levels were lower in the patients with MG than in the controls, and negatively correlated with the MG Activities of Daily Living score (rs = -0.26, P = 0.09) and with the presence of bulbar palsy (P = 0.04).

CONCLUSION

Our results show that activation of complements and an altered complement network could contribute to the inflammatory pathogenesis of MG.
