Abstract
We present results of a search for CP violation in B0- B0 mixing with the BABAR detector. We select a sample of B0→D*- Xℓ+ ν decays with a partial reconstruction method and use kaon tagging to assess the flavor of the other B meson in the event. We determine the CP violating asymmetry ACP≡[N(B0B0)-N(B0B0)]/[N(B0B0)+N(B0B0)]=(0.06±0.17(-0.32)(+0.38))%, corresponding to ΔCP=1-|q/p|=(0.29±0.84(-1.61)(+1.88))×10(-3).

Abstract
Patient experience of day of surgery admission (DOSA) has not been studied in depth. Over a one-month period a questionnaire was given to consecutive patients prior to their surgery to obtain their perspective on the desirability of DOSA and to examine whether other factors influenced this decision. 149 patients participated; across all age groups there was a statistically significant difference in preferring DOSA (p = 0.01).

Abstract
Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time-reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states (B(0) or B(0)), and J/ψK(L)(0) or ccK(S)(0) final states (referred to as B(+) or B(-)), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, B(0) → B(-) and B(-) → B(0), as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Using 468 × 10(6) BB pairs produced in Υ(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC, we measure T-violating parameters in the time evolution of neutral B mesons, yielding ΔS(T)(+) = -1.37 ± 0.14(stat) ± 0.06(syst) and ΔS(T)(-) = 1.17 ± 0.18(stat) ± 0.11(syst). These nonzero results represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation.

Abstract
The photon spectrum in the inclusive electromagnetic radiative decays of the B meson, B → X(s)γ plus B → X(d)γ, is studied using a data sample of (382.8 ± 4.2) × 10(6)Υ(4S) → BB decays collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. The spectrum is used to extract the branching fraction B(B → X(s)γ) = (3.21 ± 0.33) × 10(-4) for E(γ) >1.8 GeV and the direct CP asymmetry A(CP) (B → X(s+d)γ) = 0.057 ± 0.063. The effects of detector resolution and Doppler smearing are unfolded to measure the photon energy spectrum in the B meson rest frame.

Abstract
Based on the full BABAR data sample, we report improved measurements of the ratios R(D(*))=B(B[over ¯]→D(*)τ(-)ν[over ¯](τ))/B(B[over ¯]→D(*)ℓ(ℓ)(-)ν[over ¯](ℓ)), where ℓ is either e or μ. These ratios are sensitive to new physics contributions in the form of a charged Higgs boson. We measure R(D)=0.440±0.058±0.042 and R(D(*))=0.332±0.024±0.018, which exceed the standard model expectations by 2.0σ and 2.7σ, respectively. Taken together, our results disagree with these expectations at the 3.4σ level. This excess cannot be explained by a charged Higgs boson in the type II two-Higgs-doublet model.

Abstract
Recent astrophysical and terrestrial experiments have motivated the proposal of a dark sector with GeV-scale gauge boson force carriers and new Higgs bosons. We present a search for a dark Higgs boson using 516 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector. We do not observe a significant signal and we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the product of the standard model-dark-sector mixing angle and the dark-sector coupling constant.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer in African women has been understudied for decades. Evidence derived mainly from studies on African-American women, supports that tumours of black women are biologically different and more aggressive than those occurring in the white population. Of the 4 main taxonomic groups of breast cancer, basal tumours are more represented in those women. In the present state of knowledge, very little is known about the biology and molecular profile of breast cancer in Africa. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the molecular profile of African breast cancer is distinct from its Western counterpart. This was achieved by collecting a large cohort of breast carcinomas from an indigenous African population for phenotypical characterization and testing for expression of potential predictive and prognostic markers.
Methods: Breast tumours were collected via collaboration with five centres in Nigeria (the most populous country in Africa) and assembled into tissue microarrays (TMAs). All tumours were reviewed by a specialist breast pathologist following the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) guidelines to confirm diagnosis, type, grade and nodal status. Patients age, tumour size and clinical data, where available, were collected from the original pathology reports and case notes. Representative tumour areas were selected and marked for TMA construction. TMA sections were stained for a range of markers including hormone receptors (ERα, ERβ, PR, AR), cyclin D, HER2, Ki67, bcl2, basal (CK5/6, CK14) and luminal cytokeratins (CK18, 19).
Results: A total of 830 tumours were assembled into TMAs. The mean age at diagnosis was 47.69yrs with 58% of patients presenting under the age of 50. Only 8.5% of tumours were of grade 1. Most tumours (87%) were of ductal no special type, followed by lobular and metaplastic carcinomas. The majority of the tumours were ERα, PR and HER2 negative (77%, 80% and 81% respectively). The triple negative tumours were the predominant phenotype (55.6%). Luminal A type tumours comprised 24.3% followed by the HER2 positive (13.9%) and luminal B tumours (6.2%). The differences of all those parameters were statistically highly significant (p<0.001). Most tumours expressed ERß including 75% of those that were ERα/PR negative. A large proportion of the tumours (22%) were of the basal phenotype of which two thirds were also triple negative. Over half of the triple negative tumours were also node positive.
Hierarchal cluster analysis showed the basal tumours dendrogram to comprise two groups; one showing clustering of ***ERα/PR/HER2 and the second showing clustering of ERß with CK5 and CK14.
Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is largest and most comprehensive study of African breast cancer to date. Our data confirms the hypothesis that African breast cancer is biologically distinct and shows remarkable differences in histological type, grade, hormone receptors & HER2 status when compared with breast cancer in white women. The early age at presentation, predominance of high grade and triple negative, but not necessarily basal phenotype, may explain the poor prognosis and requires tailoring treatment strategies to target this unique profile.

Abstract
We search for hadronic decays of a light Higgs boson (A(0)) produced in radiative decays of an Υ(2S) or Υ(3S) meson, Υ→γA(0). The data have been recorded by the BABAR experiment at the Υ(3S) and Υ(2S) center-of-mass energies and include (121.3±1.2)×10(6) Υ(3S) and (98.3±0.9)×10(6) Υ(2S) mesons. No significant signal is observed. We set 90% confidence level upper limits on the product branching fractions B(Υ(nS)→γA(0))B(A(0)→hadrons) (n=2 or 3) that range from 1×10(-6) for an A(0) mass of 0.3 GeV/c(2) to 8×10(-5) at 7 GeV/c(2).

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a need for new treatment options of allergic respiratory diseases based on a better knowledge of their pathogenesis. An association between bacterial products and allergic airway diseases has been suggested by the results of human and animal studies that describe a link between Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxins and atopic diseases. The aim of the systematic review is to assess the evidence for a role of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxins, as an environmental risk factor, for the development and/or the severity of asthma and allergic rhinitis. METHODS We performed a systematic review of controlled clinical studies in adults and/or children affected by asthma/early wheeze and/or allergic rhinitis. To be eligible, studies had to use reproducible methods to provide evidence of exposure to S. aureus, clinical outcome and disease severity. RESULTS Ten studies, published between 2000 and 2007, fulfilled all eligibility criteria. Patients with asthma or allergic rhinitis showed an increased prevalence of positivity for measures of exposure to S. aureus in nine studies: differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05) in seven studies. In a meta-analysis of study results, patients with asthma were more likely than controls to have serum-specific IgE to Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxins (OR = 3.3, 95% CI: 1.6-7.1, P = 0.002); similarly, patients with allergic rhinitis were more likely than controls to test positive for local or systemic exposure to Staphylococcus aureus and/or or its enterotoxins (OR = 2.4, 95% CI: 1.3-4.7, P = 0.008). CONCLUSIONS A potential role of S. aureus superantigens in allergic respiratory diseases is supported by results of this meta-analysis of clinical studies.

Abstract
A service evaluation of a pilot of a family-based behavioural management group programme for childhood obesity was conducted in a community setting in the United Kingdom. A total of 17 families with children aged 7.5-14 years completed the programme, which was delivered in 15 sessions over 6 months. Behavioural and psychological measures and age- and sex-adjusted z-body mass index (BMI) were assessed before and after programme. z-BMI was maintained. There was a significant increase in the amount of high-fibre foods and a decrease in the amount of low-fibre foods consumed and in sedentary behaviours. There were significant decreases in depression, abnormal dieting behaviour and bulimia and food preoccupation, and an increase in self-worth related to physical appearance. These positive behavioural and psychological changes suggest that this is a promising programme.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Folate status and/or genes have been linked to depression in a number of studies. This may be via a direct action (or actions) on neuronal membranes or indirect effects through the metabolism of methyl groups involved in neurotransmitter synthesis. This study examines folate and related thiol metabolism that might underpin either phenomenon. DESIGN Cohort study describing the relationship between several genetic and nutritional aspects of folic acid homeostasis and depression assessed by the HADS psychometric index in an elderly cohort. SETTING New South Wales (Australia) retirement village. PARTICIPANTS 118 elderly participants (age 65-90 years). RESULTS Stepwise multiple regression was used to determine the best statistical model to predict depression; C677T-MTHFR (p=0.0103) was found to be positively associated with depression, while the thiol dipeptide Cys-Gly was negatively associated (p=0.0403). The statistical models used accounted for the major folate related indices (genetic and biochemical) that are most often evaluated in the context of health and disease. When only genetic data were examined for interactions, C677T-MTHFR was found to be negatively associated with the HADS Depression Index Score (p=0.0191). CONCLUSION The potential influence of Cys-Gly on this phenotype is novel, and of considerable interest given that it has been linked to altered spontaneous activity and sedation in an animal model. Cys-Gly is a recognised ligand at the N-methyl-D-aspartatic acid (NMDA) subclass of glutamate receptor, a system associated with depression. In addition, the C677T-MTHFR association adds further support to existing findings underscoring the potential role of folate in depression.

Abstract
Previous research has shown that presenting response-independent positive reinforcers reduces the response rate of an operant maintained by positive reinforcement. The present experiment investigated a similar effect using shock-free time as a negative reinforcer. Brief shocks were delivered in the presence of a distinctive stimulus, and pigeon's key pecks were reinforced by the occasional presentation of a 2-minute shock-free period. Extra 2-minute shock-free periods were added independently of behavior. For each of three pigeons, response rate during shock-on periods declined with added shock-free periods; the more frequently the extra shock-free periods occurred the greater the decline in response rate. This outcome is predicted by extending the Law of Effect to include negative reinforcement.

Abstract
Subjects avoided shock by pressing on one lever under an unsignalled condition, but by pressing a separate lever they changed the condition to signalled avoidance for 1-min periods. Signalled avoidance periods were identified by a correlated stimulus. All eight subjects responded to change the unsignalled schedule to a signalled one. Once contact with signalled avoidance was made, subjects continued responding to remain in that condition. Other tests showed that changeover responding was greater when the correlated stimulus was presented without the signal than when the signal was presented without the correlated stimulus. An analysis based upon shock and shock-free periods is presented.

Abstract
Pigeons' key pecks were reinforced with grain, then extinguished. An 8-second tone preceded the availability of peck-dependent grain 1 second after tone offset. When a tone signalled grain and an 8-second clicking sound did not, three pigeons pecked during a high percentage of tone periods, but they pecked during a low percentage of click periods. When the roles of the tone and clicking sound were reversed, performance reversed. For other birds, when a key peck during the tone cancelled the availability of grain (omission procedure), the tendency to key peck during the tone decreased some, but still remained high. A third group of pigeons received the omission procedure with the addition that the tone could not end unless 2 seconds had elapsed without a key peck. The pigeons continued to respond in a high percentage of tone periods. The experiments favor an explanation based on the pairing of the tone with a reinforced response, such as Pavlovian conditioning.
