Abstract
Line mixing effects have been calculated in the ν1 parallel band of self-broadened NH3. The theoretical approach is an extension of a semi-classical model to symmetric-top molecules with inversion symmetry developed in the companion paper [Q. Ma and C. Boulet, J. Chem. Phys. 144, 224303 (2016)]. This model takes into account line coupling effects and hence enables the calculation of the entire relaxation matrix. A detailed analysis of the various coupling mechanisms is carried out for Q and R inversion doublets. The model has been applied to the calculation of the shape of the Q branch and of some R manifolds for which an obvious signature of line mixing effects has been experimentally demonstrated. Comparisons with measurements show that the present formalism leads to an accurate prediction of the available experimental line shapes. Discrepancies between the experimental and theoretical sets of first order mixing parameters are discussed as well as some extensions of both theory and experiment.

Abstract
The Robert-Bonamy formalism has been commonly used to calculate half-widths and shifts of spectral lines for decades. This formalism is based on several approximations. Among them, two have not been fully addressed: the isolated line approximation and the neglect of coupling between the translational and internal motions. Recently, we have shown that the isolated line approximation is not necessary in developing semi-classical line shape theories. Based on this progress, we have been able to develop a new formalism that enables not only to reduce uncertainties on calculated half-widths and shifts, but also to model line mixing effects on spectra starting from the knowledge of the intermolecular potential. In our previous studies, the new formalism had been applied to linear and asymmetric-top molecules. In the present study, the method has been extended to symmetric-top molecules with inversion symmetry. As expected, the inversion splitting induces a complete failure of the isolated line approximation. We have calculated the complex relaxation matrices of self-broadened NH3. The half-widths and shifts in the ν1 and the pure rotational bands are reported in the present paper. When compared with measurements, the calculated half-widths match the experimental data very well, since the inapplicable isolated line approximation has been removed. With respect to the shifts, only qualitative results are obtained and discussed. Calculated off-diagonal elements of the relaxation matrix and a comparison with the observed line mixing effects are reported in the companion paper (Paper II).

Abstract
In several preclinical researches, antibody of Aacting directly in the central nervous system showed a great efficacy on the clearance of plaques. However, the other researches were opposite. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the amyloid-beta-directed antibody treatment of Alzheimer's disease. We searched Pubmed, Web of science, Embase and Cochrane library. Pooled data was calculated by standard mean difference. The heterogeneity and publication bias were evaluated by I2 and funnel plot. Totally, 5 RCTs (randomized clinical trials) with high qualities were included. There weas no difference of mean change form baseline between therapy and placebo group based on Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE, SMD = 0.00, p = 0.97, 95% CI = -0.23 0.22) and Clinical Dementia Rating-Sum of Boxes (CDR-SB, SMD = 0.22, p = 0.39, 95% CI = -0.28 0.71), but a significant decrease according to Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS-cog, SMD = 0.07, p = 0.01, 95% CI = -0.02 0.13). In conclusion, Antibody was not benefit for AD based on MMSE and CDR-SB but had a little effect according to ADAS-cog.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE PUMA is a pro-apoptotic gene, which has been found to be critical to the pathogenesis during heart ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). We investigate whether anti-PUMA protect mice from acute heart failure. MATERIALS AND METHODS Mice were subjected to 30 min ischemia and 24 hrs reperfusion in the presence or absence of anti-PUMA. Treated mice were evaluated for heart PUMA protein and mRNA expression, and apoptosis by terminal deoxy nucleotidyltransferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. RESULTS In mice, anti-PUMA post conditioning markedly reduced PUMA mRNA and protein expression in the heart 4-fold. Hearts from mice that received anti-PUMA had substantially fewer heart muscles apoptosis by TUNEL staining. Anti-PUMA post-conditioning greatly reduced infarct size to 14.4±3.7%, from 38.2±3.9% in the untreated I/R group. Furthermore, survival experiments revealed that more than 90% of control mice died from lethal I/R, whereas 20% of the anti-PUMA post-treated mice survived until the end of the 10-day observation period. CONCLUSIONS This study confirms the importance of PUMA-mediated apoptosis in heart ischemia-reperfusion injury. Silencing PUMA by recombinant PUMA has therapeutic promise to limit ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the cytotoxicity of resveratrol on QGY-7701 cells via a cell viability assay, and determine the cytological alterations and damages that result. Resveratrol was found to inhibit QGY-7701 cell growth and decrease their viability in a remarkably dose-dependent manner. Resveratrol exposure also induced an increase in Caspase-3 activity and a decrease in Bcl-2, which caused an increase in membrane permeability, and the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores and mitochondrial depolarization. Cellular ATP is thus exhausted, and apoptosis is induced via the change in mitochondrial membrane permeability and mitochondrial dysfunction.

Abstract
The PR1 peptide, derived from the leukemia-associated antigens proteinase 3 and neutrophil elastase, is overexpressed on HLA-A2 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We developed a high affinity T cell receptor-like murine monoclonal antibody, 8F4, which binds to the PR1/HLA-A2 complex, mediates lysis of AML, and inhibits leukemia colony formation. Here, we explored whether 8F4 was active in vivo against chemotherapy-resistant AML, including secondary AML. In a screening model, co-incubation of AML with 8F4 ex vivo prevented engraftment of all tested AML subtypes in immunodeficient NSG mice. In a treatment model of established human AML, administration of 8F4 significantly reduced or eliminated AML xenografts and extended survival compared with isotype antibody-treated mice. Moreover, in secondary transfer experiments, mice inoculated with bone marrow from 8F4-treated mice showed no evidence of AML engraftment, supporting possible activity of 8F4 against the subset of AML with self-renewing potential. Our data provide evidence that 8F4 antibody is highly active in AML, including chemotherapy-resistant disease, supporting its potential use as a therapeutic agent in patients with AML.

Abstract
A nationwide survey of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated economic burden has not previously been performed in China. The purpose of this study was to examine the direct, indirect, and intangible costs of HBV-related diseases within the span of one year. A random sample was taken from specialty and general hospitals across 12 cities in six provinces of China. Intangible costs were estimated based on willingness to pay or open-ended answers provided by patients. The results showed that 27 hospitals were enrolled, with a sample population of 4726 patients (77.7% response rate). The average annual costs were $4454.0 (direct), $924.3 (indirect), and $6611.10 (intangible), corresponding to 37.3%, 7.7%, and 55.1% of the total costs, respectively. The direct medical fees were substantially greater than the non-medical fees. Annual indirect costs were divided into outpatient ($112.9) and inpatient ($811.40) loss of income. The intangible costs of chronic HBV were notably higher than either the direct or indirect costs, consistent with the social stigma in China. The comparison amongst individual cities for the average ratio of direct to indirect costs revealed that the sizes of ratios were negatively correlated with the socioeconomic status of the regions. This study suggested that as a whole in China, the HBV-related diseases caused a heavy financial burden which was positively associated with disease severity. Although the intangible costs coincided with a high prevalence of discrimination against CHB patients in Chinese society, our study may serve as future reference for detailed exploration.

Abstract
Newly identified maize (Zea mays) mutants with opposite leaf phyllotaxy are important in the study of the maize crop. Previous studies have revealed the developmental mechanism of opposite phyllotaxy on the physiological, cellular, and molecular levels. However, there have been few reports regarding the effects of changes in endogenous hormone levels in maize leaf primordia under different conditions. We conducted field studies to examine the influence of different environmental factors on leaf primordia differentiation. Our results indicated that compared with other major environmental factors, temperature was significantly positively correlated with the ratio of maize plants with opposite phyllotaxy. We examined endogenous hormone levels in maize at different temperatures using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results showed that the ratio of maize plants with opposite phyllotaxy was mainly influenced by the cytokinin/auxin ratio. In addition, at the same temperature, the ratio of cytokinin/auxin in maize with opposite phyllotaxy was significantly higher than that near isogenic lines with alternate phyllotaxy.

Abstract
Starting from the refined Robert-Bonamy formalism [Q. Ma, C. Boulet, and R. H. Tipping, J. Chem. Phys. 139, 034305 (2013)], we propose here an extension of line mixing studies to infrared absorptions of linear polyatomic molecules having stretching and bending modes. The present formalism does not neglect the internal degrees of freedom of the perturbing molecules, contrary to the energy corrected sudden (ECS) modelling, and enables one to calculate the whole relaxation matrix starting from the potential energy surface. Meanwhile, similar to the ECS modelling, the present formalism properly accounts for roles played by all the internal angular momenta in the coupling process, including the vibrational angular momentum. The formalism has been applied to the important case of CO2 broadened by N2. Applications to two kinds of vibrational bands (Σ → Σ and Σ → Π) have shown that the present results are in good agreement with both experimental data and results derived from the ECS model.

Abstract
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is a natural hyperbolic material, in which the dielectric constants are the same in the basal plane (ε(t) ≡ ε(x) = ε(y)) but have opposite signs (ε(t)ε(z) < 0) in the normal plane (ε(z)). Owing to this property, finite-thickness slabs of h-BN act as multimode waveguides for the propagation of hyperbolic phonon polaritons--collective modes that originate from the coupling between photons and electric dipoles in phonons. However, control of these hyperbolic phonon polaritons modes has remained challenging, mostly because their electrodynamic properties are dictated by the crystal lattice of h-BN. Here we show, by direct nano-infrared imaging, that these hyperbolic polaritons can be effectively modulated in a van der Waals heterostructure composed of monolayer graphene on h-BN. Tunability originates from the hybridization of surface plasmon polaritons in graphene with hyperbolic phonon polaritons in h-BN, so that the eigenmodes of the graphene/h-BN heterostructure are hyperbolic plasmon-phonon polaritons. The hyperbolic plasmon-phonon polaritons in graphene/h-BN suffer little from ohmic losses, making their propagation length 1.5-2.0 times greater than that of hyperbolic phonon polaritons in h-BN. The hyperbolic plasmon-phonon polaritons possess the combined virtues of surface plasmon polaritons in graphene and hyperbolic phonon polaritons in h-BN. Therefore, graphene/h-BN can be classified as an electromagnetic metamaterial as the resulting properties of these devices are not present in its constituent elements alone.

Abstract
For the non-invasive visualization of cell migration in deep tissues, we synthesized a short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) emitting multimodal probe that contains PbS/CdS quantum dots, rhodamine 6G and iron oxide nanoparticles. This probe enables multimodal (SWIR fluorescence/magnetic resonance) imaging of phagocyte cell migration in living mice.

Abstract
Soil contains a large amount of phosphorus, but plants cannot absorb most of this phosphorus effectively. Low inorganic phosphorus has been singled out as a major constraint that leads to a perpetually low Zea mays (maize) grain yield. The fundamental approach to solving this problem is to screen new genes of low phosphorous (LP) tolerance. Consequently, the exploration and utilization of LP-tolerant genes are of great significance in plants. The maize inbred line 178 is an inbred LP-tolerant line. In the current study, the expression of this inbred line was induced under the stress of LP conditions. We applied cDNA-amplified fragment length polymorphism to screen LP-tolerant genes and obtained and sequenced 78 differentially expressed gene fragments. Their functions were predicted via bioinformatic analysis. There were no function annotations for 8 differentially expressed fragments. Nine genes exhibited high homology to Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa genes involved in phosphorus metabolism. This study lays a good foundation for further cloning and verification of the genes involved in phosphorus metabolism in maize.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Although most studies on epilepsy have focused on the epileptogenic zone, epilepsy is a system-level disease characterized by aberrant neuronal synchronization among groups of neurons. Increasingly, studies have indicated that mesial temporal lobe epilepsy may be a network-level disease; however, few investigations have examined resting-state functional connectivity of the entire brain, particularly in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampal sclerosis. This study primarily investigated whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity abnormality in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy and right hippocampal sclerosis during the interictal period. MATERIALS AND METHODS We investigated resting-state functional connectivity of 21 patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with right hippocampal sclerosis and 21 neurologically healthy controls. A multivariate pattern analysis was used to identify the functional connections that most clearly differentiated patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with right hippocampal sclerosis from controls. RESULTS Discriminative analysis of functional connections indicated that the patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with right hippocampal sclerosis exhibited decreased resting-state functional connectivity within the right hemisphere and increased resting-state functional connectivity within the left hemisphere. Resting-state network analysis suggested that the internetwork connections typically obey the hemispheric lateralization trend and most of the functional connections that disturb the lateralization trend are the intranetwork ones. CONCLUSIONS The current findings suggest that weakening of the resting-state functional connectivity associated with the right hemisphere appears to strengthen resting-state functional connectivity on the contralateral side, which may be related to the seizure-induced damage and underlying compensatory mechanisms. Resting-state network-based analysis indicated that the compensatory mechanism among different resting-state networks may disturb the hemispheric lateralization.

Abstract
Graphene is a promising material for ultrafast and broadband photodetection. Earlier studies have addressed the general operation of graphene-based photothermoelectric devices and the switching speed, which is limited by the charge carrier cooling time, on the order of picoseconds. However, the generation of the photovoltage could occur at a much faster timescale, as it is associated with the carrier heating time. Here, we measure the photovoltage generation time and find it to be faster than 50 fs. As a proof-of-principle application of this ultrafast photodetector, we use graphene to directly measure, electrically, the pulse duration of a sub-50 fs laser pulse. The observation that carrier heating is ultrafast suggests that energy from absorbed photons can be efficiently transferred to carrier heat. To study this, we examine the spectral response and find a constant spectral responsivity of between 500 and 1,500 nm. This is consistent with efficient electron heating. These results are promising for ultrafast femtosecond and broadband photodetector applications.

Abstract
Photoexcitation of graphene leads to an interesting sequence of phenomena, some of which can be exploited in optoelectronic devices based on graphene. In particular, the efficient and ultrafast generation of an electron distribution with an elevated electron temperature and the concomitant generation of a photo-thermoelectric voltage at symmetry-breaking interfaces is of interest for photosensing and light harvesting. Here, we experimentally study the generated photocurrent at the graphene-metal interface, focusing on the time-resolved photocurrent, the effects of photon energy, Fermi energy and light polarization. We show that a single framework based on photo-thermoelectric photocurrent generation explains all experimental results.

Abstract
Uniaxial materials whose axial and tangential permittivities have opposite signs are referred to as indefinite or hyperbolic media. In such materials, light propagation is unusual leading to novel and often non-intuitive optical phenomena. Here we report infrared nano-imaging experiments demonstrating that crystals of hexagonal boron nitride, a natural mid-infrared hyperbolic material, can act as a ‘hyper-focusing lens' and as a multi-mode waveguide. The lensing is manifested by subdiffractional focusing of phonon–polaritons launched by metallic disks underneath the hexagonal boron nitride crystal. The waveguiding is revealed through the modal analysis of the periodic patterns observed around such launchers and near the sample edges. Our work opens new opportunities for anisotropic layered insulators in infrared nanophotonics complementing and potentially surpassing concurrent artificial hyperbolic materials with lower losses and higher optical localization. Hexagonal boron nitride has many interesting properties, including a natural hyperbolic dispersion, making it attractive for nanophotonic applications. Here, Dai et al. show that metallic disks under the material launch phonon–polaritons, turning it into a hyper-focusing lens.

Abstract
Ultra-flexible and transparent metal oxide transistors are developed by doping In2 O3 films with poly(vinylphenole) (PVP). By adjusting the In2 O3 :PVP weight ratio, crystallization is frustrated, and conducting pathways for efficient charge transport are maintained. In2 O3 :5%PVP-based transistors exhibit mobilities approaching 11 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) before, and retain up to ca. 90% performance after 100 bending/relaxing cycles at a radius of 10 mm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Identifying patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) with negative prognostic factors, which have an extremely low survival rate, has been problematic. METHODS We retrospectively collected clinical data for 648 patients with lymph node-negative ESCC who were treated at the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center from 1990 to 2005. Survival difference was compared using Kaplan-Meier analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis. RESULTS We identified advancing age, smoking history, alcohol consumption history, decreased forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), surgical procedure, tumor location, number of resected lymph nodes, poor tumor differentiation, and surgical stage as independent prognostic risk factors. Furthermore, based on the results of multivariate analysis, we constructed a novel scoring system that included the factors of age, smoking history, alcohol consumption history, number of resected lymph nodes, tumor differentiation, and surgical stage. Risk score (RS) was computed with the scoring system, and patients were divided into Class A (RS: 0-5) and Class B (RS: 6-10). P < 0.001 indicated statistical significance. A significant difference (p < 0.001) demonstrated that Class B was strongly related to a low survival rate and poor prognosis. CONCLUSION We developed a new simple flexible scoring system of high prognostic significance, which has the potential to guide postoperative therapeutic strategies and follow-up frequency and to provide better prognostic information for patients and their families.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the relevance of PTH, 25(OH)D3, CT, bone resorption markers C-terminal telopeptide of type I (CTX-1), and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP), bone formation markers bone gla protein (BGP), bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) with the femoral neck BMD in females. MATERIALS AND METHODS PTH, 25(OH)D3, CT, CTX-1, TRACP, BGP, and BALP were detected by an enzyme immunoassay analyzer and femoral neck BMD were measured by a BMD detector. The results of 860 females were divided into several groups according to standard of five-year age intervals. SPSS 13.0 software was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS The measured values of PTH, 25(OH) D3 and CT had no differences in 35-50 age group. The measured values of 25(OH) D3 began to decline after the age of 50, and 25(OH)D3 had positive relevance with BMD. The values of CT were decreased in the age groups from 65 to 79 years old, and were significant positive correlated with BMD. The CTX-1 and TRACP had negative relevance with BMD in 35-45 age group and BGP and BALP had positive relevance with BMD in 35-45 age group. The BGP, BALP increased significantly in 50-60 age group, and CTX-1, TRACP, BGP, and BALP had negative relevance with BMD in 50-60 age group. BGP and BALP began to decline and had positive relevance with BMD after the age of 65, and CTX-1 and TRACP had negative relevance with BMD after the age of 65. CONCLUSIONS PTH, 25(OH)D3, CT, CTX-1, TRACP, BGP, and BALP were the important technical means for monitoring the level of bone metabolism and the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Abstract
A 32/64-channel Charge eXchange Recombination Spectroscopy (CXRS) and a 7-channel motional Stark effect (MSE) polarimeter have been developed on the HL-2A tokamak. To extract the maximum time resolution of the system, the incidence fibers of the spectrometer are pitch-controlled; and the double-slit fiber bundle can increase the spatial channels with one charge-coupled device detector. The ion temperature and plasma rotation with time and spatial resolutions up to 5 ms and 1 cm are obtained. Sawtooth oscillation, transition from intermediate phase (I phase) to high confinement mode (H mode) can be clearly observed by the CXRS. The spectrometer can be utilized as the main component of the MSE polarimeter, which can effectively overcome the weak Stark effect. The pitch angles of magnetic field are obtained for 7 spatial points covering 24 cm along major radius with time resolution of 40 ms.

Abstract
A 32/64-channel charge exchange recombination spectroscopy (CXRS) diagnostic system is developed on the HL-2A tokamak (R = 1.65 m, a = 0.4 m), monitoring plasma ion temperature and toroidal rotation velocity simultaneously. A high throughput spectrometer (F/2.8) and a pitch-controlled fiber bundle enable the temporal resolution of the system up to 400 Hz. The observation geometry and an optimized optic system enable the highest radial resolution up to ∼1 cm at the plasma edge. The CXRS system monitors the carbon line emission (C VI, n = 8-7, 529.06 nm) whose Doppler broadening and Doppler shift provide ion temperature and plasma rotation velocity during the neutral beam injection. The composite CX spectral data are analyzed by the atomic data and analysis structure charge exchange spectroscopy fitting (ADAS CXSFIT) code. First experimental results are shown for the case of HL-2A plasmas with sawtooth oscillations, electron cyclotron resonance heating, and edge transport barrier during the high-confinement mode (H-mode).

Abstract
The refinement of the Robert-Bonamy formalism by considering the line coupling for linear molecules developed in our previous studies [Q. Ma, C. Boulet, and R. H. Tipping, J. Chem. Phys. 139, 034305 (2013); 140, 104304 (2014)] have been extended to asymmetric-top molecules. For H2O immersed in N2 bath, the line coupling selection rules applicable for the pure rotational band to determine whether two specified lines are coupled or not are established. Meanwhile, because the coupling strengths are determined by relative importance of off-diagonal matrix elements versus diagonal elements of the operator -iS1 - S2, quantitative tools are developed with which one is able to remove weakly coupled lines from consideration. By applying these tools, we have found that within reasonable tolerances, most of the H2O lines in the pure rotational band are not coupled. This reflects the fact that differences of energy levels of the H2O states are pretty large. But, there are several dozen strongly coupled lines and they can be categorized into different groups such that the line couplings occur only within the same groups. In practice, to identify those strongly coupled lines and to confine them into sub-linespaces are crucial steps in considering the line coupling. We have calculated half-widths and shifts for some groups, including the line coupling. Based on these calculations, one can conclude that for most of the H2O lines, it is unnecessary to consider the line coupling. However, for several dozens of lines, effects on the calculated half-widths from the line coupling are small, but remain noticeable and reductions of calculated half-widths due to including the line coupling could reach to 5%. Meanwhile, effects on the calculated shifts are very significant and variations of calculated shifts could be as large as 25%.

Abstract
The complement system has been shown to regulate T-cell activation and alloimmune responses in GVHD. Mice deficient in the central component of complement system C3 have significantly lower GVHD-related mortality/morbidity, and C3 modulates Th1/Th17 polarization in mouse GVHD. To investigate whether anticomplement therapy has any impact on human T-cell activation, a drug candidate Compstatin was used to inhibit C3 activation in this study. We found the frequency of IFN-γ (Th1)-, IL-4 (Th2)-, IL-17 (Th17)-, IL-2- and TNF-α-producing cells were significantly reduced among activated CD4(+) cells in the presence of Compstatin. Compstatin treatment decreased the proliferation of both CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells upon TCR stimulation. However, Compstatin does not affect the production of IL-2 and TNF-α in activated CD8(+) T cells, and the differentiation of CD8(+) T cells into distinct memory and effector subsets remained intact. Furthermore, we examined complement deposition in skin and lip biopsy samples of patients diagnosed with cutaneous GVHD. C3 deposition was detected in the squamous epithelium and dermis, blood vessels and damaged sweat glands, and was associated with gland damage and regeneration. We conclude that C3 mediates Th1/Th17 polarization in human T-cell activation and skin GVHD in patients.

Abstract
van der Waals heterostructures assembled from atomically thin crystalline layers of diverse two-dimensional solids are emerging as a new paradigm in the physics of materials. We used infrared nanoimaging to study the properties of surface phonon polaritons in a representative van der Waals crystal, hexagonal boron nitride. We launched, detected, and imaged the polaritonic waves in real space and altered their wavelength by varying the number of crystal layers in our specimens. The measured dispersion of polaritonic waves was shown to be governed by the crystal thickness according to a scaling law that persists down to a few atomic layers. Our results are likely to hold true in other polar van der Waals crystals and may lead to new functionalities.

Abstract
The refinement of the Robert-Bonamy (RB) formalism by considering the line coupling for isotropic Raman Q lines of linear molecules developed in our previous study [Q. Ma, C. Boulet, and R. H. Tipping, J. Chem. Phys. 139, 034305 (2013)] has been extended to infrared P and R lines. In these calculations, the main task is to derive diagonal and off-diagonal matrix elements of the Liouville operator iS1 - S2 introduced in the formalism. When one considers the line coupling for isotropic Raman Q lines where their initial and final rotational quantum numbers are identical, the derivations of off-diagonal elements do not require extra correlation functions of the Ŝ operator and their Fourier transforms except for those used in deriving diagonal elements. In contrast, the derivations for infrared P and R lines become more difficult because they require a lot of new correlation functions and their Fourier transforms. By introducing two dimensional correlation functions labeled by two tensor ranks and making variable changes to become even functions, the derivations only require the latters' two dimensional Fourier transforms evaluated at two modulation frequencies characterizing the averaged energy gap and the frequency detuning between the two coupled transitions. With the coordinate representation, it is easy to accurately derive these two dimensional correlation functions. Meanwhile, by using the sampling theory one is able to effectively evaluate their two dimensional Fourier transforms. Thus, the obstacles in considering the line coupling for P and R lines have been overcome. Numerical calculations have been carried out for the half-widths of both the isotropic Raman Q lines and the infrared P and R lines of C2H2 broadened by N2. Abstract
Escherichia coli is the most widely used host for the production of recombinant proteins. However, most eukaryotic proteins are typically obtained as insoluble, misfolded inclusion bodies that need solubilization and refolding. The interactions between human FHL2 protein and many types of proteins, including structural proteins, kinases, and several classes of transcription factor, have been found to have important roles in a variety of fundamental processes, including arrhythmia, hypertrophy, atherosclerosis, and angiogenesis. To achieve high-level expression of soluble recombinant human FHL2 protein in E. coli, we have constructed a recombinant expression plasmid, pGEX-4T-1-FHL2, in which we merged FHL2 cDNA with the glutathione S-transferase (GST) coding sequence downstream of the tac inducible promoter. Using this plasmid, we have achieved high expression of soluble FHL2 as a GST fusion protein in E. coli BL21. We have used the engineered plasmid (pGEX-4T-1-FHL2) and the modified E. coli strain to overcome the problem of removing the GST moiety while expressing soluble FHL2. Our results show that: 1) the recombinant plasmid was successfully constructed. Sequencing results showed that FHL2 and GST are in the same reading frame; 2) at 23°C, soluble GST-FHL2 fusion protein was highly expressed after induction with 0.1 mM IPTG; and 3) GST-FHL2 can be detected by Western blotting using mouse monoclonal anti-GST antibody. Our data are the first to show that high yields of soluble FHL2 tagged with GST can be achieved in E.coli.

Abstract
The origin of atmospheric dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) deposition is not very clear at present. Across China, the DON deposition was substantially larger than that of world and Europe, and we found significant positive correlation between contribution of DON and the deposition flux with pristine site data lying in outlier, possibly reflecting the acute air quality problems in China. For a case study in Northeast China, we revealed the deposited DON was mainly derived from intensive agricultural activities rather than the natural sources by analyzing the compiled dataset across China and correlating DON flux with NH4(+)-N and NO3(-)-N. Crop pollens and combustion of fossil fuels for heating probably contributed to summer and autumn DON flux respectively. Overall, in Northeast China, DON deposition could exert important roles in agro-ecosystem nutrient management and carbon sequestration of natural ecosystems; nationally, it was suggested to found rational network for monitoring DON deposition.

Abstract
Animals make use a range of social information to inform their movement decisions. One common movement rule, found across many different species, is that the probability that an individual moves to an area increases with the number of conspecifics there. However, in many cases, it remains unclear what social cues produce this and other similar movement rules. Here, we investigate what cues are used by damselfish (Dascyllus aruanus) when repeatedly crossing back and forth between two coral patches in an experimental arena. We find that an individual's decision to move is best predicted by the recent movements of conspecifics either to or from that individual's current habitat. Rather than actively seeking attachment to a larger group, individuals are instead prioritizing highly local and dynamic information with very limited spatial and temporal ranges. By reanalysing data in which the same species crossed for the first time to a new coral patch, we show that the individuals use static cues in this case. This suggests that these fish alter their information usage according to the structure and familiarity of their environment by using stable information when moving to a novel area and localized dynamic information when moving between familiar areas.

Abstract
Since it was developed in 1979, the Robert-Bonamy (RB) formalism has been widely used in calculating pressure broadened half-widths and induced shifts for many molecular systems. However, this formalism contains several approximations whose applicability has not been thoroughly justified. One of them is that lines of interest are well isolated. When these authors developed the formalism, they have relied on this assumption twice. First, in calculating the spectral density F(ω), they have only considered the diagonal matrix elements of the relaxation operator. Due to this simplification, effects from the line mixing are ignored. Second, when they applied the linked cluster theorem to remove the cutoff, they have assumed the matrix elements of the operator exp(-iS1 - S2) can be replaced by the exponential of the matrix elements of -iS1 - S2. With this replacement, effects from the line coupling are also ignored. Although both these two simplifications relied on the same approximation, their validity criteria are completely different and the latter is more stringent than the former. As a result, in many cases where the line mixing becomes negligible, significant effects from the line coupling have been completely missed. In the present study, we have developed a new method to evaluate the matrix elements of exp(-iS1 - S2) and have refined the RB formalism such that line coupling can be taken into account. Our numerical calculations of the half-widths for Raman Q lines of the N2-N2 pair have demonstrated that effects from the line coupling are important. In comparison with values derived from the RB formalism, new calculated values for these lines are significantly reduced. A recent study has shown that in comparison with the measurements and the most accurate close coupling calculations, the RB formalism overestimates the half-widths by a large amount. As a result, the refinement of the RB formalism goes in the right direction and these new calculated half-widths become closer to the "true" values.

Abstract
Wnt proteins have been implicated in regulating a variety of developmental processes in the CNS. Secreted Frizzled-related protein 3 (sFRP3) is a member of the sFRP family that can inhibit the Wnt signaling by binding directly to Wnts via their regions of homology to the Wnt-binding domain of Frizzleds. Recent studies suggested that sFRP3 plays an important role in cell proliferation and differentiation in various tissues. To understand the role of sFRP3 in neural development, we carried out detailed studies on the expression of sFRP3 in the developing nervous system. Our results revealed that sFRP3 is initially expressed in the ventricular zone of the spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia (DRG), and later in the dorsal horn of spinal cord and subpopulation of DRG neurons. The spatiotemporally dynamic expression ofsFRP3 strongly suggests that sFRP3 has potential functions in the sensory neuron genesis and sensory circuitry formation.

Abstract
Hormone therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer. Thus, especially the addition of synthetic progestins may play a decisive role according to the results of clinical studies. Overexpression of a special receptor, i.e. the progesterone receptor membrane component-1 (PGRMC1), may offer a potential new pathway to explain the observed increase in breast cancer risk in the combined arm of the Women's Health Initiative. PGRMC1 is expressed in breast cancer tissue and may be important in tumorigenesis. The expression of PGRMC1 in breast cancer tissue is significantly different from that in normal mammary glands. Certain synthetic progestins can increase the proliferation of PGRMC1-overexpressing breast cancer cells and may thus be involved in tumorigenesis, while progesterone and certain synthetic progestins such as nomegestrol or chlormadinone acetate react neutrally. Our investigations point towards an important role of estrogen receptor-α in the signaling cascade, resulting in the proliferative effect induced by progestins. Thus, activation of PGRMC1 may explain the increased breast cancer risk observed during treatment with certain progestins. Very recently, PGRMC1 was investigated in serum samples of lung cancer patients and matched healthy patients; significantly higher concentrations were shown in the cancer patients. Therefore, PGRMC1 might be a predictor for other cancers as well but, according to clinical trials, its importance for a possible screening tool, particularly for breast cancer risk during hormone therapy, seems of interest.

Abstract
Ku70, a known nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ) factor, also functions in tumor suppression, although this molecular mechanism remains uncharacterized. Previously, we showed that mice deficient for DNA ligase IV (Lig4), another key NHEJ factor, succumbed to aggressive lymphoma in the absence of tumor suppressor p53. However, the tumor phenotype is abrogated by the introduction of a hypomorphic mutant p53(R172P), which impaired p53-mediated apoptosis but not cell-cycle arrest. However, Lig4(-/-)p53(R172P) mice succumbed to severe diabetes. To further elucidate the role of NHEJ and p53-mediated apoptosis in vivo, we bred Ku70(-/-) p53(R172P) mice. Unexpectedly, these mice were free of diabetes, although 80% of the mutant mice had abnormally enlarged colons with pronounced inflammation. Remarkably, most of these mutant mice progressed to dysplasia, adenoma and adenocarcinoma; this is in contrast to the Lig4(-/-)p53(R172P) phenotype, strongly suggesting an NHEJ-independent function of Ku70. Significantly, our analyses of Ku70(-/-)p53(R172P) colonic epithelial cells show nuclear stabilization of β-catenin accompanied by higher expression of cyclin D1 and c-Myc in affected colon sections than in control samples. This is not due to the p53 mutation, as Ku70(-/-) mice share this phenotype. Our results not only unravel a novel function of Ku70 essential for colon homeostasis, but also establish an excellent in vivo model in which to study how chronic inflammation and abnormal cellular proliferation underlie tumorigenesis and tumor progression in the colon.
