Abstract
Objective: To investigate the geographical variation of prediabetes in adults in different regions of China, and to analyze the related factors of prediabetes. Methods: Data was obtained from China Chronic Disease and Related Risk Factor Surveillance in 2013. The surveillance adopted multiple-stage stratified cluster random sampling method, which sampled 177 099 residents aged above 18 years old among 298 surveillance points in 31 provinces of Chinese Mainland. Questionnaire interview was used to obtain demographic variables, personal living style, and socio-economical information. Physical examination was conducted and fasting venous blood sample and (oral glucose tolerance test-2 hours, OGTT-2 h) venous blood sample were obtained from the participants. A total of 171 567 residents aged 18 and above were included in the analysis. The prevalence of prediabetes was analyzed by provinces and by China's geographical regions, after complex weighting. Multilevel logistic models were established to explore the related factors of prediabetes on the area level and individual level. Results: The prevalence of prediabetes among residents aged 18 and above was 16.6% (95%CI: 15.6%-17.6%) in China. The prevalence of prediabetes was the highest (18.3%) in the south China and lowest (13.1%) in the northwest area. The difference of the prevalence in different areas were not statistically significant (P=0.510). If categorized the prevalence of prediabetes into 5 groups by quintile, Hainan, Jilin, Shandong, Anhui, Hunan and Chongqing were in the highest group of prevalence of prediabetes (18.6%-22.7%), and Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Guizhou, and Jiangxi were in the lowest group (7.6%-12.6%). The variance of prevalence of prediabetes on the county level (MOR: 1.60 (95%CI:1.53-1.67)) was more diverse than the province level (MOR: 1.21(95%CI:1.08-1.29)) and higher than the street level (1.23 (95%CI:1.14-1.30)). Several factors increased risk of pre-diabetes, including smoking, hazardous drinking and harmful drinking, drinking in the past 30 days, overweight, obesity, central obesity, sugary drink intake, hypertension, high total cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (all P<0.05). After adjusted the above variables, 92.5% of variance of prediabetes prevalence conld be explained on the provincial level. Conclusion: The geographical distribution of prediabetes in adults in China differed by geographic areas, and it significantly varied on the county level. The related variables included demographic variables, personal behavior, and geographic related variables.

Abstract
In this research, an approach called modulation-based structured-illumination microscopy (MSIM) is proposed to measure the surface and thickness profile of thin film layers. With this method, a sinusoidal fringe pattern generated by digital micro-mirror devices (DMD) is projected on the sample. The modulation estimation of the reflected patterns is implemented for characterizing the surface and thickness profile of the sample. The measurement system is relatively simple and only an ordinary objective is enough to achieve imaging of the sample. In addition, the reflected signals come from the back surface of the film create less disturbance to the front surface compared with white-light interferometry. Consequently, they can be easily distinguished and achieve a successful measurement precisely. Both simulation and experiments are carried out to demonstrate the availability of this MISM method. The results are in excellent agreement with commercial stage profiler and the relative uncertainty is less than 10 nm.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effetcs of autophagy on the proliferation of renal carcinoma (RCCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS Authophagy related protein 7 (Atg7)-overexpressing and knockdown RCC cell lines were established using lentiviral transfection and shRNA interference, respectively. (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) (MTT) was used to determine the Cell growth rate, and western blot was used to determine the expression of protein. In order to establish xenograft animal models, stable transfected cells were injected into nude mice. After that those mice were used to detect the effect of autophagy on the growth of RCC in vivo. RESULTS Atg7 overexpression could up-regulate the level of LC3II in RCC cell lines, while Atg7-knockdown suppressed the expression of light chain 3 II (LC3II) in RCC cell lines. Atg7-overexpression cells exhibited a decreased growth profile, while suppressing the expression of Atg7 could accelerate the growth of RCC formed tumors. CONCLUSIONS Our data indicated that autophagy could suppress the growth of RCC cells in vivo and in vitro, and autophagy appeared to be a new therapeutic target for treating advanced renal cell carcinoma.

Abstract
A maskless lithography method to realize the rapid and cost-effective fabrication of micro-optics elements with arbitrary surface profiles is reported. A digital micro-mirror device (DMD) is applied to flexibly modulate that the exposure dose according to the surface profile of the structure to be fabricated. Due to the fact that not only the relationship between the grayscale levels of the DMD and the exposure dose on the surface of the photoresist, but also the dependence of the exposure depth on the exposure dose, deviate from a linear relationship arising from the DMD and photoresist, respectively, and cannot be systemically eliminated, complicated fabrication art and large fabrication error will results. A method of compensating the two nonlinear effects is proposed that can be used to accurately design the digital grayscale mask and ensure a precise control of the surface profile of the structure to be fabricated. To testify to the reliability of this approach, several typical array elements with a spherical surface, aspherical surface, and conic surface have been fabricated and tested. The root-mean-square (RMS) between the test and design value of the surface height is about 0.1 μm. The proposed method of compensating the nonlinear effect in maskless lithography can be directly used to control the grayscale levels of the DMD for fabricating the structure with an arbitrary surface profile.

Abstract
Broadband light interferometry, which is a well-developed method for surface profiling, has been applied with great success in the past years. Conventional multi-wavelength interferometric surface profilers mostly utilize the light irradiance to locate the zero fringe order, but the accuracy and stability can be negatively influenced by intensity fluctuations and external light disturbance, which is a serious problem. In this paper we discuss a hybrid technique combining light intensity and spectral modulation to determine zero optical path difference in which the light instability can be effectively suppressed. Additionally, the phase evaluation at each pixel will provide a high vertical resolution to obtain the characterization of the micro structure. The hybrid-interference method will not only improve the sensitivity of the measurement system but also level up the robustness and stability. Both simulation and experiment on a micro-dome structure have been presented to verify the effectiveness. Furthermore, the proposed method may be promising to replace the previously intensity-based method, especially in a complex application environment.

Abstract
The application of assisted reproductive technology in animal production benefits the economy and conservation of biological resources. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) was used as predictive markers for breeding and reproduction. In the present study, we examined the association between a SNP of the grb10 gene and superovulation traits in cattle. Sequencing results indicated a point mutation and statistical analysis showed a significant association of the mutation with superovulation traits. The high number of embryos collected from the heterozygotes suggested that the mutation in the grb10 gene exerted a significant effect on the number of embryos recovered although the quality was not affected. The grb10 gene may serve as a useful biomarker for donor selection.

Abstract
The objective of this investigation was to evaluate whether intravaginal infusion of probiotics (a lactic acid bacteria cocktail) around parturition would influence metabolic status and increase milk production of transition dairy cows. One hundred pregnant Holstein dairy cows were assigned to 1 of the 3 experimental groups receiving intravaginal infusion of probiotics or carrier (i.e., sterile skim milk) once a week at wk -2, -1, and +1 relative to calving as follows: 2 consecutive probiotics before parturition and 1 carrier dose after parturition (TRT1), 3 consecutive probiotics doses around parturition (TRT2), and 3 consecutive carrier doses around parturition (CTR). The probiotics were a lyophilized culture mixture composed of FUA3089 and FUA3138 and FUA3140 with a cell count of 10 to 10 cfu/dose. Blood was sampled from wk -2 to +3 and milk was sampled on the third day in milk (DIM) and from wk +1 to +5 on a weekly basis. Feed intake and milk production was monitored until wk +8. Results showed that the TRT2 group (366.12 ± 49.77 μmol/L) had a lower ( = 0.01) concentration of NEFA in the serum than the CTR group (550.85 ± 47.16 μmol/L). The concentrations of IgG in the milk were 32.71 ± 3.00 mg/mL in the TRT1 group, 17.47 ± 4.54 mg/mL in the TRT2 group, and 6.73 ± 3.43 mg/mL in the CTR group at 3 DIM ( < 0.01). Meanwhile, both the TRT1 and the TRT2 group had lower haptoglobin in the milk compared with the CTR group at 3 DIM ( < 0.01). The TRT1 group had greater milk protein content than the CTR group (2.99 ± 0.04 vs. 2.82 ± 0.04%; = 0.02), whereas the TRT2 group tended to have greater lactose content compared with the CTR group (4.53 ± 0.03 vs. 4.44 ± 0.03%; = 0.05). The effect of treatment interacted with parity with regards to milk production and feed efficiency. Multiparous cows in the TRT1 and TRT2 groups had greater milk production and feed efficiency than those in the CTR group ( < 0.01 and = 0.02, respectively). Among primiparous cows, those in the TRT2 group had greater milk production ( = 0.04) whereas those in the TRT1 group had lower feed intake ( < 0.01) than those in the CTR group. Both the TRT1 and the TRT2 groups had enhanced feed efficiency compared with the CTR group ( < 0.01). In conclusion, intravaginal infusion of lactic acid bacteria modulated concentrations of selected serum metabolites and milk components and increased milk efficiency of transition dairy cows.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the community-based management of diabetes patients aged ≥35 years in China. Methods: The subjects from 2013-2014 Chronic Non-communicable Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance in China were used in this study, those who were aged ≥35 years and diagnosed by doctors in hospitals at community level or above were selected through clustering sampling. Questionnaire was used to collect the data of subjects' general information, health status, the treatment and the control of blood glucose. Blood samples were taken from the subjects to detect the fasting blood glucose level and blood glucose level at 2 hours after oral administration of glucosum anhydricum. The subjects were weighted according to complex sampling scheme to calculated the different rates and 95%CI. The Rao-scott χ2 test was performed to test the differences in rates between the subgroups. Results: The survey indicated that among the 10 056 diabetes patients aged ≥35 years and diagnosed with diabetes, 4 609 received management service in communities. After being weighted, the management rate of diabetes patients was 45.0% (95% CI: 40.8%-49.2%). Females (46.9%, 95% CI: 42.8%-51.0%) had higher management rate than males (43.0%, 95% CI: 38.1%-47.9%). The management rate was higher in rural area (50.4%, 95%CI: 46.3%-54.5%) than in urban area (41.6%, 95%CI: 35.5%-47.6%). There was a significant age specific difference in the proportion of patients receiving management services (χ2=21.0, P<0.01), the rate of management was highest in the patients aged ≥65 years (49.2%, 95%CI: 43.6%-54.7%), but lowest in the patients aged 35-44 years (35.2%, 95% CI: 27.9%-42.4%). The overall standardized management rate of diabetes patients in communities was 16.7% (95% CI: 13.7%-19.7%). The proportion of urban patients receiving standardized management service (19.7%, 95% CI: 15.3%-24.1%) was higher than that of rural patients (12.8%, 95% CI: 9.8%-15.8%). The overall treatment rate of diabetes patients in communities was 95.8% (95%CI: 94.8%-96.9%). The treatment rate was higher in females (97.0%, 95%CI: 96.0%-98.0%) than that in males (94.5%, 95%CI: 92.7%-96.4%). The control rate of blood glucose in diabetes patients receiving management in communities was 34.6% (95%CI: 31.5%-37.6%), and the highest blood glucose control rate was in the patients aged ≥65 years (38.2%, 95%CI: 33.4%-43.0%), while the lowest blood glucose control rate was in the patients aged 45-54 years (34.4%, 95% CI: 26.7%-42.0%). Conclusions: Both the standardized management rate and blood glucose control rate were low in the diabetes patients aged ≥35 years in China. It is necessary to strengthen the allocation of medical resources in communities and standardized diabetes management.

Abstract
Objective: To identify cause-specific death and attributed burden of low bone mineral density in China among population aged ≥40 years old , 1990 and 2013. Methods: By using data from Global Burden of Disease(GBD)2013, this study analyzed death caused by low mineral density, and disability-adjusted life years(DALY)among population aged 40 and above in China(not including Taiwan, China). This study also analyzed DALY by composition of injury which due to low bone mineral density. It also analyzed changes in DALY by provinces in China, 1990 and 2013. An average world population age-structure for the period 2000- 2025 was adopted to calculate the age standardized rates. Results: In 2013, there were 38.1 thousands male and 30.7 thousands female who aged 40 and above dead due to low bone mineral density in China. The burden of injury caused by low bone mineral density was more sever in male than female, which accounted for 1.525 million DALY in male and 0.873 million DALY in female. In 1990, low bone mineral density attributed transportation and accidental injury caused 0.794 million and 0.567 million DALY losses, respectively. In 2013, low bone mineral density attributed transportation and accidental injury caused 1.421 million and 0.951 million DALY losses, respectively. Compared to 1990, DALY losses caused by transportation and accidental injury, increased by 79.1% and 67.6%, respectively. In 1990, DALY rate losses due to low bone mineral density attributed transportation and accidental injury were 68.1 per 100 000 and 48.7 per 100 000, respectively. In 2013, DALY rate losses due to low bone mineral density attributed transportation and accidental injury were 102.0 per 100 000 and 68.2 per 100 000, respectively. Compared to 1990, DALY rates which caused by transportation and accidental injury, increased by 49.8% and 40.2%, respectively. According to the ranking of standardized DALY rate in 2013 by provinces, the top 3 provinces, which standardized DALYs attributed to low bone mineral density lost the most, were Zhejiang Province(2.6 per 100 000), Jiangsu Province(2.4 per 100 000), and Fujian Province(2.2 per 100 000). Compared to 1990, the standardized rate of DALY decreased in 27 provinces, while the DALY rate increased in only 6 provinces which included Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Hebei Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Henan Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Conclusion: This study found that the burden of health losses attributed to it was higher in men than in women. Compared to 1990, DALY rates decreased in most of the provinces, however, the rates of losses of DALY which caused by transportation and accidental injury were still increasing.

Abstract
CSN6, a critical subunit of the constitutive photomorphogenesis 9 (COP9) signalosome (CSN), has received attention as a regulator of the degradation of cancer-related proteins such as p53, c-myc and c-Jun, through the ubiquitin-proteasome system, suggesting its importance in cancerogenesis. However, the biological functions and molecular mechanisms of CSN6 in glioblastoma (GBM) remain poorly understood. Here, we report that GBM tumors overexpressed CSN6 compared with normal brain tissues and that CSN6 promoted GBM cell proliferation, migration, invasion and tumorigenesis. Erlotinib, a small-molecule epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor, was used to reveal that the proliferative and metastatic effects of CSN6 on GBM cells were EGFR dependent. We also found that CSN6 positively regulated EGFR stability via reduced levels of EGFR ubiquitination, thereby elevating steady expression of EGFR. In addition, this study is the first description of a novel role for the CSN6-interacting E3 ligase, CHIP (carboxyl terminus of heat-shock protein 70-interacting protein), regulating EGFR ubiquitination in cancer cells. We showed that CSN6 associated with CHIP and led to CHIP destabilization by increasing CHIP self-ubiquitination. Moreover, CSN6 decreased CHIP expression and increased EGFR expression in the tumor samples. Deregulation of this axis promoted GBM cell's proliferation and metastasis. Thus, our study provides insights into the applicability of using the CSN6-CHIP-EGFR axis as a potential therapeutic target in cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the quality of life (QOL) and influencing factors on Chinese adults. METHODS 83 666 subjects from 2010 Chronic Non-communicable Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance Project in China were included in this study. Questionnaire was used to collect information on general condition and health status. WHOQOL-BREF was adopted as an instrument to measure the QOL on all the subjects.t test was used to compare QOL from different groups. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to assess the association of QOL with BMI, by gender. RESULTS Among all the 83 666 subjects, mean scores of physical,psychological, social relationship and environment domains appeared as (73.97 ± 13.84), (66.65 ± 14.21), (65.76 ± 14.08) and (56.59 ± 15.15), respectively. Age, residential areas (urban/rural), education levels and marital status all showed significant impact on scores of the four domains (P<0.05). Scores decreased with age and increased with education level (P<0.05). Scores of rural adults were greater than those from the urban and the scores of married or cohabiting adults were greater than the other groups (P<0.05). Physical and psychological scores were lower in women than that of in men (P<0.05). Except for environment domain, scores of patients with chronic diseases were much lower than those without. CONCLUSION Factors as age, residence (urban/rural), education levels, marital status and chronic diseases could significantly influence the QOL of Chinese adults.

Abstract
In this study, the performance of 300 Changbaishan Black cattle treated for superovulation from June to September was evaluated to determine the optimal conditions and herds for bovine embryo production. Data analysis revealed that cattle treated in July and August had higher numbers of available embryos (NAE), M1 embryos (NM1), and total embryos (NTE), as well as a higher percentage of M1 embryos (PM1). The temperature and precipitation observed during July and August were greater than those seen in the other two months; strong correlations were observed between these traits and the choice of month of treatment. In addition, multiparous cattle showed a better performance, higher NTE, NAE, NM1, and PM1 values, higher percentages of available embryos, and a lower percentage of degenerated embryos. The co-efficient correlation analysis showed that the month chosen for the treatment did not affect the superovulation traits of nulliparous cattle; however, the choice of the month affected multiparous cattle. Multiparous and nulliparous cattle exhibited many significant differences when treated in July and in August. In addition, the superovulatory traits of multiparous cattle, and not the nulliparous cattle, were strongly correlated to the choice of month of treatment. The results suggested that superovulation is more effective during a period with appropriate environmental temperature and humidity, and that multiparous cattle are more suitable for morula production.

Abstract
This study was designed to examine a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the HIF-3α gene in three hundred Changbaishan black cattle using PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism to determine whether there is an association between this SNP and superovulation. The cloning and sequencing results indicate that the polymorphism is due to a point mutation at the 278-bp position in the HIF-3α gene, resulting in 3 genotypes (AA, AB, and BB). Association analysis indicated that the polymorphism has a significant effect on the number of unfertilized embryos (NUE) (P < 0.05) in the cattle. Cattle with genotype BB had a higher NUE than those with genotype AA, but the difference in NUE between AB and AA or BB was not significant. The polymorphism also has a highly significant effect on the number of degenerative embryos (NDE) and the number of total embryos (NTE) (P < 0.01). Genotype BB was associated with a higher NDE than AA, but the difference in NDE between AB and AA or BB was not significant. Genotype BB showed a higher NTE than AA or AB, but the difference in NTE between AA and AB was not significant. No significant conclusions could be drawn with respect to susceptibility to other traits. HIF-3α could serve as a useful biomarker for donor selection, superovulation improvement, and assisted fertility.

Abstract
Using mouse gene expression microarray analysis, we obtained dynamic expression profiles of the whole genome in a depilation-induced hair growth mouse model. S100A3 expression increased during the anagen phase and returned to normal during the telogen phase. The effects of S100A3 blockade on the hair growth cycle were examined in mice after subcutaneous injection of an anti-mouse S100A3 antibody. Protein localization of S100A3 was confined to the hair shafts during the anagen phase and the sebaceous glands during the telogen phase. S100A3 blockade delayed hair follicle entry into the anagen phase, decreased hair elongation, and reduced the number of hair follicles in the subcutis, which correlated with the downregulated expression of hair growth induction-related genes in vivo. The present study demonstrates that anti-S100A3 antibody inhibits mouse hair growth, suggesting that S100A3 can be used as a target for hair loss treatment.

Abstract
β-Hydroxybutyricacid (BHBA) is an important metabolite that involved in the development of ketosis and fatty liver in dairy cows. Dairy cows with fatty liver displayed high blood concentration of BHBA and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) assembly. The effects of BHBA on VLDL synthesis and assembly in hepatocytes of cows were unclear. In this study, bovine hepatocytes were cultured and treated with different concentrations of BHBA. We found that BHBA treatment upregulated the mRNA and protein levels of apolipoprotein B100 (ApoB 100), apolipoprotein E (ApoE) and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTTP) and showed in a firstly increased and then decreased trend. Meanwhile, the mRNA and protein levels of LDLR showed in a reverse trend. Consequently, VLDL content was significantly increased in medium-dose BHBA treatment group, while decreased in high-dose group. These results indicate that the effects of BHBA on the VLDL synthesis showed in a dose-dependent manner that low levels of BHBA increase VLDL synthesis and high levels of BHBA decrease VLDL synthesis.

Abstract
The objective of this investigation was to evaluate whether intravaginal infusion of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) around parturition could expedite involution rate of the uterus and improve reproductive performance of postpartum dairy cows. One hundred pregnant Holstein dairy cows were assigned to 1 of 3 experimental groups: (1) 1 dose of LAB in wk -2 and -1 and 1 dose of carrier in wk 1 relative to the expected day of parturition (TRT1); (2) 1 dose of LAB in wk -2, -1, and 1 (TRT2); and (3) 1 dose of carrier in wk -2, -1, and 1 (CTR). The LAB treatment was a lyophilized mixture of Lactobacillus sakei FUA3089, Pediococcus acidilactici FUA3138, and Pediococcus acidilactici FUA3140 with a cell count of 10(8) to 10(9) cfu/dose. Uterine involution and ovarian activity was evaluated by transrectal ultrasonography weekly from d 7 to 49 postpartum. Blood samples were collected from a subset of cows to quantify prostaglandin (PG) F2α metabolite (PGFM), PGE2, and progesterone. Cows treated with LAB had smaller cross-sectional areas of gravid horn and uterine body on d 14 postpartum. Cows in TRT2 resumed ovarian cyclicity earlier, as indicated by increased concentrations of serum progesterone. Cows in TRT1 had fewer days open than those in the CTR (110 vs. 150 d), whereas cows in TRT2 and CTR did not differ in days open. In addition, both TRT1 and TRT2 increased the concentrations of PGFM at calving week, and cows in TRT2 also had greater concentrations of PGE2 on d 14 and d 21 postpartum relative to CTR. Overall, cows treated intravaginally with LAB had smaller gravid horn and uterine body on d 14 postpartum than those in the CTR group. Treatment with LAB also increased concentrations of serum PGFM (3,533±328pg/mL in TRT1, 4,470±372pg/mL in TRT2, and 2,000±328pg/mL in CTR on d 0, respectively), with the TRT1 group having fewer cows that resumed ovarian cyclicity but fewer days open compared with both TRT2 and CTR groups. More research is warranted to better understand the mechanism(s) by which intravaginal LAB expedited uterine involution and affected hormonal profiles.

Abstract
The ovarian differentiation, morphogenesis and expression of some putative gonadal development-related genes were analysed in the ricefield eel Monopterus albus, a protogynous hermaphroditic teleost with a single elongate ovary. At c. 1 day post-hatching (dph), the gonadal ridge was colonized with primordial germ cells (PGCs) at the periphery and transformed into the gonadal primordium, which appeared to contain two germinal epithelia. At c. 7 dph, four ovarian cavities appeared in the gonadal tissue with two in each germinal epithelial compartment, and the indifferent gonad might have begun to differentiate into the ovary. The oocytes at the leptotene stage in meiosis I appeared at c. 14 dph, and oocytes at the diplotene stage at c. 30 dph. As development proceeded, the connective tissue separating the two germinal epithelia disappeared, and two of the four ovarian cavities collapsed into one. At 60 dph, the gonad had already taken the shape as observed in the adults. One outer and two inner ovarian cavities could be easily recognized, with slightly basophilic primary growth oocytes usually residing close to the outer ovarian cavity. The expression of cyp19a1a and erb in the early gonad was detected at 6 dph. The abundant expression of foxl2 coincided with the up-regulation of cyp19a1a at 8 dph onwards. The expression of dmrt1 isoforms was not detectable until 8 dph for dmrt1a and dmrt1b and until 33 dph for dmrt1d. The earlier appearance of cyp19a1a compared to dmrt1 transcripts in the indifferent gonad may contribute to the initial differentiation of the gonad towards the ovary in M. albus.
