Abstract
The first examples of phlorin analogues of meso-fused carbatriphyrins(2.1.1) and organo P(V) complex of one of the meso-fused carbatriphyrins were obtained by adopting a premodification strategy starting with fluorene as a fused polyaromatic precursor over a sequence of steps. The meso-fused carbatriphyrins(2.1.1) were obtained as their nonaromatic phlorin analogues owing to the unstable nature of the fully conjugated meso-fused carbatriphyrins(2.1.1). The organo P(V) complex of one of the meso-fused carbatriphyrins was prepared by treating the phlorin analogue of carbatriphyrin(2.1.1) with PCl3 in toluene/triethylamine at reflux for 1 h. The P(V) complex of the meso-fused carbatriphyrin(2.1.1) was found to be moderately aromatic and the resulting global conjugation pathways in the P(V) complex significantly alters the aromaticity of the fluorene unit. The nonaromatic nature of the phlorin analogues of the meso-fused carbatriphyrin(2.1.1) and the moderately aromatic nature of its P(V) complex were supported by X-ray crystallography, absorption spectroscopy, NMR studies together with nucleus-independent chemical shifts, anisotropy-induced current density, and harmonic oscillation stabilization energy calculations.

Abstract
The oxidation reaction of unsymmetrical diorganotellurides, namely, bis[2-{(dimethylamino)methyl}aryl]tellurides [aryl = phenyl (6), 2-methylphenyl (7), 2,6-dimethylphenyl (8) and 2,6-diisopropylphenyl (9)] with meta-chloroperbenzoic acid afforded the first examples of tetraorganoditelluronic acids, [RR'Te(μ-O)(OH)2]2, where R = 2-NMe2CH2C6H4, R' = C6H5 (10), 2-MeC6H4 (11), 2,6-MeC6H3 (12) and 2,6-iPrC6H3 (13). The structures of tetraorganoditelluronic acids 10-13 were authenticated by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. From the molecular structures of 10-13, it was observed that the sp3 N-donor atoms, which were initially involved in intramolecular TeN bonding interactions in diorganotellurides 6-9, did not interact with the tellurium atoms in tetraorganoditelluronic acids 10-13. The 125Te chemical shifts for 10-13 were considerably downfield shifted as compared with the values observed for the corresponding tellurides 6-9. The relative stabilities of the tetraorganoditelluronic acids 10-13 with respect to their lighter analogues (S and Se) have been assessed using DFT calculations.

Abstract
The synthesis of a (Te,S) ligand 4-MeOC6H4TeCH2CH2SEt (L) and its complex [PdCI2L] is followed by single crystal structure determination of the complex, which indicates that the Pd-CI bond length trans to the ArTe group [2.344(3) Å] is longer than that trans to SEt [2.316(4) Å], suggesting a stronger trans influence for the former.

Abstract
Two one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymers (CPs), namely catena-poly[[[aqua(2,2'-bipyridine-κ2N,N')(nitrato-κO)copper(II)]-μ-1,3-bis(pyridin-4-yl)propane-κ2N:N'] nitrate], {[Cu(NO3)(C10H8N2)(C13H14N2)(H2O)]·NO3}n (1), and catena-poly[[[aqua(nitrato-κO)(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N')copper(II)]-μ-1,3-bis(pyridin-4-yl)propane-κ2N:N'] nitrate], {[Cu(NO3)(C12H8N2)(C13H14N2)(H2O)]·NO3}n (2), have been synthesized using [Cu(NO3)(NN)(H2O)2]NO3, where NN = 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), as a linker in a 1:1 molar ratio. The CPs were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and single-crystal X-ray structure determination. The 1,3-bis(pyridin-4-yl)propane (dpp) ligand acts as a bridging ligand, leading to the formation of a 1D polymer. The octahedral coordination sphere around copper consists of two N atoms from bpy for 1 or phen for 2, two N atoms from dpp, one O atom from water and one O atom from a coordinated nitrate anion. Each structure contains two crystallographically independent chains in the asymmetric unit and the chains are linked via hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

Abstract
The structures of three copper-containing complexes, namely (benzoato-κ2O,O')[(E)-2-({[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]imino}methyl)phenolato-κ3N,N',O]copper(II) dihydrate, [Cu(C7H5O2)(C13H19N2O)]·2H2O, 1, [(E)-2-({[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]imino}methyl)phenolato-κ3N,N',O](2-phenylacetato-κ2O,O')copper(II), [Cu(C8H7O2)(C13H19N2O)], 2, and bis[μ-(E)-2-({[3-(diethylamino)propyl]imino}methyl)phenolato]-κ4N,N',O:O;κ4O:N,N',O-(μ-2-methylbenzoato-κ2O:O')copper(II) perchlorate, [Cu2(C8H7O2)(C12H17N2O)2]ClO4, 3, have been reported and all have been tested for their activity in the oxidation of D-galactose. The results suggest that, unlike the enzyme galactose oxidase, due to the precipitation of Cu2O, this reaction is not catalytic as would have been expected. The structures of 1 and 2 are monomeric, while 3 consists of a dimeric cation and a perchlorate anion [which is disordered over two orientations, with occupancies of 0.64 (4) and 0.36 (4)]. In all three structures, the central Cu atom is five-coordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal arrangment (τ parameter of 0.0932 for 1, 0.0888 for 2, and 0.142 and 0.248 for the two Cu centers in 3). In each species, the environment about the Cu atom is such that the vacant sixth position is open, with very little steric crowding.

Abstract
In the title compound, [SnBr2(C7H6Br)2(C24H16N2)], the Sn atom is coordinated to a 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline, two 3-bromobenzyl and two bromide ligands, leading to a six-coordinate C2Br2N2 donor set. The bromobenzyl ligands are trans to each other, while the Br anions are in a cis arrangement. One of the two 3-bromobenzyl ligands is disordered over two similar conformations, with occupancies of 0.7078 (18) and 0.2922 (18). In the crystal, molecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by Br...Br halogen bonds [3.5972 (12) Å], which are linked into a supramolecular layer in the ac plane by weak intermolecular C—H...Br interactions.

Abstract
Two novel hypervalent selenium(IV) compounds stabilized by intramolecular interactions, namely 6-phenyl-6,7-dihydro-5H-2,3-dioxa-2aλ4-selenacyclopenta[hi]indene, C14H12O2Se, 14, and 5-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-4H-benzo[c][1,2]oxaselenole-7-carbaldehyde, C14H12OSe2, 15, have been synthesized by the reaction of 2-chloro-1-formyl-3-(hydroxymethylene)cyclohexene with in-situ-generated disodium diselenide (Na2Se2). The title compounds were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. For 14, there is whole-molecule disorder, with occupancies of 0.605 (10) and 0.395 (10), a double bond between C and Se, and the five-membered selenopentalene rings are coplanar. The packing is stabilized by π-π stacking interactions involving one of the five-membered Se/C/C/C/O rings [centroid-centroid (Cg...Cg) distance = 3.6472 (18) Å and slippage = 1.361 Å], as well as C-H...π interactions involving a C-H group and the phenyl ring. In addition, there are bifurcated C-H...Se,O interactions which link the molecules into ribbons in the c direction. For 15, the C-Se bond lengths are longer than those of 14. The two five-membered rings are coplanar. There are no π-π or C-H...π interactions; however, molecules are linked by C-H...O interactions into centrosymmetric dimers, with graph-set notation R22(16).

Abstract
The title compound, C13H16N2O4, crystallizes in the monoclinic centrosymmetric space group, P21/c, with four mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, thus there is no crystallographically imposed symmetry and it is a racemic mixture. The structure consists of a six-membered unsaturated ring bound to a five-membered pyrrolidine-2,5-dione ring N-bound to a six-membered piperidine-2,6-dione ring and thus has the same basic skeleton as thalidomide, except for the six-membered unsaturated ring substituted for the aromatic ring. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked into inversion dimers by R 2 2(8) hydrogen bonding involving the N-H group. In addition, there are bifurcated C-H⋯O inter-actions involving one of the O atoms on the pyrrolidine-2,5-dione with graph-set notation R 1 2(5). These inter-actions along with C-H⋯O inter-actions involving one of the O atoms on the piperidine-2,6-dione ring link the mol-ecules into a complex three-dimensional array. There is pseudomerohedral twinning present which results from a 180° rotation about the [100] reciprocal lattice direction and with a twin law of 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 [BASF 0.044 (1)].

Abstract
The title compound, [Zn3(C14H11Br2N2O)4](ClO4)2·2CH3CN, crystallizes as a symmetrical trinuclear cation with all three metal atoms being located on a twofold rotation axis. It contains a tetra-hedral ZnII atom that bridges two six-coordinate ZnII atoms. The complex contains N- and O-donor atoms of four tridentate 2,4-di-bromo-6-{[2-(pyridin-2-yl)eth-yl]imino-meth-yl}phenolate ligands. The ratio of ZnII atoms to ligands is 3:4. The two terminal ZnII cations adopt distorted octa-hedral geometries and the central ZnII cation adopts a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. In the cation there are π-π inter-actions between the di-bromo-phenyl rings, as well as halogen-bonding inter-actions between the di-bromo-phenyl rings in the cation, which stabilize its conformation. In addition, there are C-H⋯O inter-actions between the anions and both the cations and solvent mol-ecules as well as C-H⋯N inter-actions between the cation and solvent mol-ecules. These inter-species inter-actions link the cations, anions and solvent mol-ecules into a complex three-dimensional array.

Abstract
In the title compound, [HgCl2(C16H28N2Se)], the primary geometry around the Se and Hg atoms is distorted trigonal-pyramidal and distorted square-pyramidal, respectively. The distortion of the mol-ecular geometry in the complex is caused by the steric demands of the ligands attached to the Se atom. The Hg atom is coordinated through two chloride anions, an N atom and an Se atom, making up an unusual HgNSeCl2 coordination sphere with an additional long Hg⋯N inter-action. Inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl inter-actions are the only identified inter-molecular hydrogen-bonding inter-actions that seem to be responsible for the self assembly. These relatively weak C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds possess the required linearity and donor-acceptor distances. They act as mol-ecular associative forces that result in a supra-molecular assembly along the b-axis direction in the solid state of the title compound.

Abstract
The title compound, [Ni(C14H12BrN2O)2][Ni(C14H13BrN2O)2](ClO4)2·CH3OH consists of two mononuclear ([Ni(HL)2]2+ and [NiL2]) complex mol-ecules linked by strong hydrogen bonding [O⋯O separations of only 2.430 (5) Å], which is the shortest reported to date for such species. In one of the complexes, both the coordinated phen-oxy groups retain their protons and thus this is the cationic equivalent species of the other complex where both coordinated phen-oxy groups are deprotonated. In addition, perchlorate anions are present for charge balance, as well as methanol solvate mol-ecules. For the neutral NiL2 complex, each 2-ethyl-amine-pyridine arm is disordered over two equivalent conformations with occupancies of 0.750 (8):0.250 (8). The perchlorate anion is disordered over two equivalent conformations with occupancies of 0.602 (8):0.398 (8). The perchlorate ions also link to the H atoms on the methanol methyl and hydroxyl groups. These inter-actions link the moieties into a complex three-dimensional array. The crystal studied was refined as a two-component twin.

Abstract
Koneramines (LR OR', R=Ph or Ts; R'=Me, iPr) and their complexes were found to emerge from the system of pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde and N-phenyl/tosylethylenediamine when a primary or secondary alcohol was used as solvent. Imidazolidinylpyridines (LR , R=Ph or Ts) became major emergents whereas hemi-aminals (LR OH, R=Ph or Ts) are minor emergents of the system when tertiary butanol was used as the solvent; the bulky tertiary butyl group prevented the addition of alcohol to the iminium ion that diverted the equilibrium towards imidazolidinylpyridines. By playing with the components of the reaction mixture, crystals of the metastable intermediates bound to copper(II) and/or zinc(II) were obtained and the structures were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The reported results shed light on how to control the emergents of the multicomponent reaction mixture that forms koneramines. Reactivity studies of the intermediates pave the way for a new type of koneramine complexes that are new dipicolylamines where the two pyridine moieties of the resulting koneramine are not the same.

Abstract
In the title salt, (C34H41N4Te)[HgI3(C4H8O2)], the aryl-tellurenium [C34H41N4Te]+ cations and [HgI3(dioxane)]- anions are linked by a short inter-action between the Te atom and one of the I-atom donors of the anion, as well as through weak C-H⋯I inter-actions. The geometry around the Te atom is T-shaped with the coordination comprising a C atom of the central aromatic ring and two N atom donors of the benzimidazolyl moiety. The Te-N bond lengths are almost equal [2.232 (3) and 2.244 (3) Å], while the Te-C bond length is 2.071 (4) Å. The N-Te-N bond angle is 150.68 (11)°. The HgII atom of the anion is coordinated by iodide ions from three sides and the fourth coordination site is occupied by an O atom of the solvent mol-ecule (dioxane). Thus, it attains a trigonal-pyrimidal geometry, with O-Hg-I angles ranging of 90.76 (8) and 96.76 (7)° and I-Hg-I angles ranging from 112.41 (1) to 125.10 (1)°. The cations and anions are involved in numerous weak π-π stacking inter-actions involving both the central phenyl ring and two inversion-related benzimidazole moieties, which propagate in the a-axis direction. In addition, there are numerous C-H⋯I inter-actions between the cations and anions, which link them into a complex three-dimensional array.

Abstract
An unusual quinazoline alkaloid (1) was obtained when 2-aminobenzaldehyde was refluxed with pyrrolidine in ethanol for 12 h. The synthesized compound was characterized using spectral data analysis augmented with X-ray and literature precedent. Single crystal analysis depicted four conformations differing slightly in bond angles and bond lengths. Compound 1 crystallizes in a triclinic crystal system with a P1̄ space group having two molecules within the unit cell. The experimentally obtained parameters were compared to those obtained theoretically, which depicted a good agreement. Using the DFT/B3LYP/6-31G (d,p) level of theory, HOMO–LUMO energy gap, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), vibrational (IR) and NMR analyses were carried out. The HOMO–LUMO energy gap allowed the calculation of chemical hardness, chemical inertness, electronegativity and the electrophilicity index of the molecule, which depicted its potential kinetic stability and reactivity. Prediction of activity spectra of the target compound revealed that compound 1 possesses notable antineoplastic activity with Pa = 0.884. The molecule was therefore evaluated against various cancerous cell lines in an in vitro SRB assay which depicted that compound 1 possesses the highest growth inhibition activity against THP-1 cell lines with an IC50 of 7 μM. A comparative overview of theoretical and experimental studies concerning the electronic, structural and biological domains of the synthesized unusual quinazoline alkaloid is presented.![]()

The C=Se bond lengths at 1.848 (5) and 1.851 (5) Å are on the long side for a double bond but shorter than expected for a C—Se single bond. In the crystal, Br...Br intermolecular interactions [3.4685 (12) Å] link the molecules into a zigzag chain propagating along theb-axis direction. In addition, there are C—H...Se intermolecular interactions present, linking the chains to form slabs parallel to theabplane.
