Abstract
A single-ridged K-band circularly polarized horn antenna offering excellent performance has been developed by improving the polarization conversion and manufacturing complexity. The numerical and experimental results are consistent showing the return loss of this antenna to be less than -20 dB and the axial ratio at the boresight direction to be less than 0.7 dB in the frequency range from 23.5 GHz to 24.5 GHz. In addition, the gain of this antenna is higher than 20 dB. The newly designed circularly polarized horn antenna has a simple structure and outperforms many existing circular polarization devices in high-power operations.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the association and intensity of baseline TC level with the incidence of lung cancer in men in China. Methods: Since May 2006, all the male workers, including the employees and the retirees in Kailuan Group were recruited in the Kailuan male dynamic cohort study. Information about demographics, medical history, anthropometry and TC level were collected at the baseline interview, as well as the information of newly-diagnosed lung cancer cases during the follow-up period. According to guidelines for blood lipids in Chinese adults and the distribution in the population, TC level was classified into five groups as followed: <160, 160-, 180-, 200- and ≥240 mg/dl, with the second quintile group (160- mg/dl) serving as the referent category. Cox proportional hazards regression model and restricted cubic spline (RCS) model were used to evaluate the association and the nonlinear association between baseline TC level and the risk of lung cancer in the men. Results: By December 31, 2014, for the 109 884 men, a follow up of 763 819.25 person-years was made with a median follow-up period of 7.88 years. During the follow up, 808 lung cancer cases were identified. After adjustment for age, education level, income level, smoking status, alcohol consumption level, history of dust exposure, FPG level and BMI, HR (95%CI) of lung cancer for men with lower TC level (<160 mg/dl) and higher TC level (≥240 mg/dl) were 1.34 (1.04- 1.72) and 1.45 (1.09-1.92), respectively, compared with men with normal TC level (160- mg/dl). The results didn't change significantly after exclusion of newly diagnosed cancer cases within 2 years of follow up and subjects with the history of hyperlipidemia. Conclusion: Our results showed that TC might be associated with higher risk of lung cancer. Men with lower TC level or higher TC level had higher risk for lung cancer. Keep moderate TC level might be one of the effective precaution for the prevention of lung cancer.

Abstract
Objective: The present study was designed to evaluate the protective effects of oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) in mice exposed to paraquat (PQ) , and to explore the molecular mechanism. Methods: Four experimental groups were designed. CONTROL GROUP 10 BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally injected with normal saline) . PQ group: 10 BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally injected with PQ (100 mg/kg) . PQ+OPC group: 10 BALB/c mice were administered with OPC (100 mg/kg) for 1 h before PQ (100 mg/kg) expo-sure. OPC group: 10 BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally injected with OPC (100 mg/kg) . The peripheral blood samples or lung tissue samples were collected at the designed time points for measuring the levels of oxi-dative stress indicators, the related protein levels of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway and nuclear fac-tor erythroid related factor-2 (Nrf2) pathway. Results: Compared with the control group, the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) , the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the PQ group were significantly induced, and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the PQ group was decreased in the peripheral blood. As com-pared with the PQ group, the level of ROS and the content of MDA in the PQ+OPC group were significantly re-duced, the activity SOD in the PQ+OPC group was increased in the peripheral blood; the level of ROS and the content of MDA were also reduced in lung tissues in the PQ+OPC group. Moreover, compared with the con-trol group, the phosphorylation of IκBα and the expression of NF-κB p65 were increased in lung tissues in the PQ group. The phosphorylation of IκBα and the expression of NF-κB p65 were decreased in lung tissues in the PQ+OPC group as compared with the PQ group. In addition, compared with the control group, the expressions of HO-1 and Nrf2 were increased in lung tissues in OPC group, and these were decreased in lung tissues in PQ groups. Furthermore, the expressions of HO-1 and Nrf2 were also increased in lung tissues in PQ+OPC as com-pared with the PQ group. Conclusion: OPC could alleviate PQ-induced systemic toxicity in mice by regulating oxidative stress via NF-κB and Nrf2 pathway.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the gender-specific risk factors of new-onset cerebral hemorrhage. Methods: In this prospective cohort study,a total of 98 961 participants((51.1±12.6)years old), who underwent the 2006 to 2007 physical examination and met the inclusion criteria, were enrolled from the Kailuanstudy cohort. There were 78 908 (79.7%) male, and 20 053 (20.3%) female. The incidence of cerebral hemorrhage was observed once per year until December 31, 2016.The difference on the incidence of cerebral hemorrhage between male and female was compared. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was applied to analyze therisk factors of cerebral hemorrhage events among different genders. Results: The participants were followed up for(10.00±0.73) years, and 860 cerebral hemorrhage events were recorded during follow up. The incidence of cerebral hemorrhage in the population was 86.90/10 million person years (standardized incidence rate of 47.85/10 million person years). The incidence of cerebral hemorrhage was significantly higher in male (49.61/10 million person years) than in female (34.07/10 million person years, P<0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that 45-59 years old, ≥ 60 years old, diabetes, and waist-hip ratio were more strongly related to new-onset of cerebral hemorrhage events in female than in male, and the hazard ratios(95%CI) were 2.33 (1.23-4.43) ,2.71 (1.30-5.66) ,2.16 (1.24-3.74) and 8.79 (1.42-54.32) in female versus 1.55 (1.21-1.97) ,2.16 (1.68-2.78) ,1.19 (0.93-1.53) and 3.21 (1.09-9.41) in male, respectively. The risk of male cerebral hemorrhage increased by 29% (HR=1.29, 95%CI 1.19-1.40) in male and 24% (HR=1.24, 95%CI 1.20-1.28) in female, when the systolic blood pressure increased 10 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa). Conclusions: The incidence of cerebral hemorrhage is higher in male than in female in this cohort. The association between systolic blood pressure and cerebral hemorrhage is stronger in male than that in female. The associations between age, waist-hip ratio, diabetes and cerebral hemorrhage are stronger in female than in male. Abstract
SummaryPoint mutations in factor IX genes of four unrelated Chinese patients with hemophilia B have been identified by direct sequencing of amplified genomic DNA fragments. These four mutations occur in exon 8 of the factor IX gene. A C to T transition at nucleotide 30,863 changes codon 248 from Arg (CGA) to a new Stop codon (TGA), described in a previous family as factor IXMalmo3 (Green P M et al., EMBO J 1989; 8: 1067). A G to A transition, at nucleotide 31,051 changes codon 310 from Trp (TGG) to a nonsense or Stop codon (TGA; factor IXchongqing2)- A G to A transition at nucleotide 31,119 changes codon 333 which is for Arg (CGA) in normal factor IX, to one for Gin (CAA) in the variant previously described as factor IXLondon2 (Tsang T C et al., EMBO J 1988; 7: 3009) in a patient with moderately severe hemophilia B. The fourth patient has a novel C to A transversion at nucleotide 31,290, which corresponds to replacement of codon 390 which is for Ala (GCA) in normal factor IX, to one for Glu (GAA) in a patient with moderately severe hemophilia B (factor IXChongqing3)- DNA sequences of amplified fragments from mothers of three showed both their son’s variant and a normal nucleotide at the appropriate position, indicating that they are carriers. The fourth patient’s (factor IXMalmo3) mother, whose DNA was not evaluable, was most probably a carrier because of her low plasma factor IX levels.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between alcohol consumption and lung cancer risk in Chinese males. Methods: Information on alcohol consumption and outcomes were collected on a biennial basis among males in Kailuan Cohort (2006-2015). In addition, electronic databases of hospitals affiliated to Kailuan Community, Insurance Systems of Kailuan Community and Tangshan were also used for supplementary information retrieval. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95%CI of baseline frequency and type of alcohol consumption associated with lung cancer risk in males. Non-drinkers were used as control group. Results: A total of 101 751 males were included and 913 new lung cancer cases were identified in the Kailuan male cohort study, with a total follow-up time of 808 146.56 person-years and a median follow-up time of 8.88 years by 31 December 2015. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, the HR of former drinkers, occasional drinkers (<1/day) and drinkers (≥1/day) were 1.30 (95%CI: 0.90-1.88), 0.80 (95%CI: 0.64-1.01) and 1.04 (95%CI: 0.85-1.27), respectively, compared with non-drinkers. In addition, drinking beer/red wine (HR=0.91, 95%CI: 0.69-1.20) and white wine (HR=0.99, 95%CI: 0.83-1.19) showed no significant association with lung cancer. The results were similar when stratified analysis were conducted. Conclusion: Our study results don't support the hypothesis that alcohol consumption is significantly associated with the risk of lung cancer in males.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the association of carotid artery plaque with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events. Methods: A total of 7 017 participants who completed the carotid sonography examination between 2010 and 2011 were selected from the stroke and the elderly prospective cohort Kailuan study. The participants of stroke cohort received health examination between 2006 and 2007, and participants of elderly cohort received health examination between 2010 and 2011. All participants were divided into plaque group (3 285 cases) and without plaque group (3 732 cases) according to with or without carotid artery plaque. The all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events were compared between the 2 groups. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to identify the association of carotid artery plaque with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events. Results: (1) There were 4 297 male (61.2%) and 2 720 female (38.8%) in this cohort and participants were (58.1±11.8) years old. Age, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, rates of male, smoking, drinking, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus were higher in the plaque group than in the without plaque group, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol was lower in the plaque group than in the without plaque group (all P<0.01) at baseline. (2) During a follow-up period of (4.92±0.59) years, the incidence rates of all-cause mortality in the plaque group and without plaque group were 5.5% (180/3 285) and 1.5% (57/3 732) ,respectively (P<0.01) .The incidence rates of cardiovascular events in the plaque group and without plaque group were 3.8% (124/3 285) and 1.4% (52/3 732) , respectively (P<0.01) . (3) Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that carotid plaque was an independent risk factor of all-cause mortality (HR=1.667, 95%CI 1.160-2.395, P<0.01) and cardiovascular events (HR=1.942, 95%CI 1.312-2.876, P<0.01) after adjusting for age, sex, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, body mass index, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, smoking, drinking, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and use of lipid-regulating drugs. Conclusion: Carotid plaque is an independent risk factor of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events. Clinical Trial Registration Chinese Clinical Trials Registry, ChiCTR-TNC-11001489.

Abstract
Based on emotional processing theory, preexisting negative cognitions may contribute to the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. The present study prospectively examined the association between preexisting PTSD-related cognitions and subsequent acute PTSD symptoms, and the potential mediators of this association. We also compared the effect of preexisting depressive cognitions and preexisting PTSD-related cognitions on PTSD symptoms. In the current study, 810 Taiwanese undergraduates completed a baseline survey (T1), of which 73.1% (n = 592) participated in a second survey two months later (T2). Of those who completed both surveys, 97 experienced a trauma at least one week before T2; this group comprised the final sample. Hierarchical regression showed that preexisting PTSD-related cognitions (β = .38, p < .001, sr2 = .117), but not preexisting depressive cognitions (β = .11, p = .315, sr2 = .011), were a significant and substantial predictor of acute PTSD symptoms after we controlled for established pretrauma risk factors (i.e., gender, prior trauma, and prior psychological problems). Multiple mediation analysis revealed that negative appraisal of symptoms (a1 b1 = 0.90, 95% CI [0.16, 2.18], PM = .251) and trauma-related rumination (a3 b3 = 1.23, 95% CI [0.23, 2.86], PM = .341), but not trauma memory disorganization (a2 b2 = 0.65, 95% CI [-0.17, 1.92], PM = .182), significantly mediated between preexisting PTSD-related cognitions and acute PTSD symptoms. Our findings highlight the role of preexisting negative cognitions in acute PTSD symptomatology. The development of PTSD symptoms is likely determined by the interaction of risk factors before and after trauma.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the impact of blood pressure and age on arterial stiffness in general population. Methods: Participants who took part in 2010, 2012 and 2014 Kailuan health examination were included. Data of brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) examination were analyzed. According to the WHO criteria of age, participants were divided into 3 age groups: 18-44 years group (n=11 608), 45-59 years group (n=12 757), above 60 years group (n=5 002). Participants were further divided into hypertension group and non-hypertension group according to the diagnostic criteria for hypertension (2010 Chinese guidelines for the managemengt of hypertension). Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the association between systolic blood pressure (SBP) with baPWV in the total participants and then stratified by age groups. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the influence of blood pressure on arterial stiffness (baPWV≥1 400 cm/s) of various groups. Results: (1)The baseline characteristics of all participants: 35 350 participants completed 2010, 2012 and 2014 Kailuan examinations and took part in baPWV examination. 2 237 participants without blood pressure measurement values were excluded, 1 569 participants with history of peripheral artery disease were excluded, we also excluded 1 016 participants with history of cardiac-cerebral vascular disease. Data from 29 367 participants were analyzed. The age was (48.0±12.4) years old, 21 305 were males (72.5%). (2) Distribution of baPWV in various age groups: baPWV increased with aging. In non-hypertension population, baPWV in 18-44 years group, 45-59 years group, above 60 years group were as follows: 1 299.3, 1 428.7 and 1 704.6 cm/s, respectively. For hypertension participants, the respective values of baPWV were: 1 498.4, 1 640.7 and 1 921.4 cm/s. BaPWV was significantly higher in hypertension group than non-hypertension group of respective age groups (P<0.05). (3) Multiple linear regression analysis defined risk factors of baPWV: Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that baPWV was positively correlated with SBP(t=39.30, P<0.001), and same results were found in the sub-age groups (t-value was 37.72, 27.30, 9.15, all P<0.001, respectively) after adjustment for other confounding factors, including age, sex, pulse pressure(PP), body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (TC), smoking, drinking, physical exercise, antihypertensive medications, lipid-lowering medication. (4) Multivariate logistic regression analysis of baPWV-related factors: After adjustment for other confounding factors, including age, sex, PP, BMI, FBG, TC, smoking, drinking, physical exercise, antihypertensive medication, lipid-lowering medication, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that risks for increased arterial stiffness in hypertension group were higher than those in non-hypertension group, the OR in participants with hypertension was 2.54 (2.35-2.74) in the total participants, and same results were also found in sub-age groups, the ORs were 3.22(2.86-3.63), 2.48(2.23-2.76), and 1.91(1.42-2.56), respectively, in each sub-age group. Conclusion: SBP is positively related to arterial stiffness in different age groups, and hypertension is a risk factor for increased arterial stiffness in different age groups. Abstract
European and Northern American healthcare authorities increasingly encourage the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) that complement clinical and laboratory assessments to help holistically evaluate reconstructive outcomes. This is the first study to evaluate PROMs in cleft lip/palate patients who have, or have not, undergone secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG).A PROMs study was conducted; 40 consecutive consenting cleft lip/palate children between 8 and 14 years old were included. Twenty patients did, and 20 patients did not, have SABG. PROMs scores from children and parents in the 2 groups were compared.Forty patients completed the trial. No significant differences in total score from the Chang Gung Short Form-15 (CGSF-15) were found between children and their parents. Children with SABG reported no more oral-nasal regurgitation than children without SABG, but tended to report more nasal obstruction. There were no statistically significant differences in parent reported outcomes between the 2 groups.Cleft lip/palate patients who underwent SABG reported significantly less nasal regurgitation and more nasal obstruction compared to those patients who did not undergo SABG.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this paper is to investigate the application value of serum human tumor protein P53 (TP53) in the diagnosis and postoperative monitoring of colorectal cancer. Methods: One hundred and fifteen patients with colorectal cancer diagnosed without colorectal cancer and without surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and total of 158 patients with colorectal benign disease and 182 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study. The levels of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 199 (CA199) were detected by electrochemiluminescence assay. The expression of TP53 was analyzed by ELISA. Fourth-one patients with colorectal cancer were detected with one day before operation and the first seven days after operation. The expression of CEA, CA199 and TP53 was analyzed by ROC curve. The results were compared with those of CEA and CA199 diagnostic value. Results: The medians of the levels of TP53 in patients with colorectal cancer patients, colorectal benign, and healthy subjects are 316.0(24.6, 940.8 ) , 9.8(3.7, 30.1 ) and 1.9(1.4, 2.5 ) μg/L (H=260.161, P<0.01), respectively. The level of TP53 in patients with colorectal cancer was significantly higher than that in colorectal benign and healthy subjects. The levels of serum TP53 in patients with colorectal cancer show great discrepancies in different TNM stages, different tumor location, depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05) , but no difference in sex, age, and tumor growth type. The levels of TP53 in the same patient is 711.5(354.9, 1 068.0) μg/L in the first seven days after operation, significantly decreased when compared to it in the one day before the operation with the value of 952.6 (419.7, 1485.4) μg/L (Z=-1.989, P<0.05). The difference was statistically significant, and CEA, CA199 were not statistically significant. And the sensitivity (79.1%) and specificity (81.8%) of TP 53 were significantly higher than those of CEA (39.1%, 70.3%) and CA199 (47.8%, 69.1%). If TP53 was combined with CEA and CA199, sensitivity (86.1%) and specificity (87.9%) can be significantly improved, in which the area of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.924. Conclusions: Serum TP53 has a certain positive significance for the diagnosis, postoperative monitoring of colorectal cancer. Combined detection with CEA and CA199 can improve the sensitivity and specificity, implicating good clinical application value.

Abstract
Greater risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is seen in individuals exposed to interpersonal traumatic events. Based on an attachment perspective, interpersonal trauma exposure may activate one's attachment insecurity system and disrupt affect, behaviour and interpersonal function, which may in turn create more difficulties to cope with interpersonal traumas and exacerbate PTSD symptomatology. The present study examined whether attachment anxiety relative to attachment avoidance would be a stronger predictor of greater PTSD symptoms following interpersonal traumas versus impersonal traumas in a Taiwanese sample. One hundred and sixty-two trauma-exposed Taiwanese young adults completed the measures of symptoms of depression, anxiety and PTSD, and attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance. In this Taiwanese study, higher attachment anxiety was observed in individuals who were exposed to interpersonal traumas. The interpersonal trauma group reported greater PTSD symptoms than did the impersonal trauma group. Specifically, after controlling for age, occurrence of trauma and distress of trauma, attachment anxiety, but not attachment avoidance, predicted more PTSD total severity and avoidance symptoms in the interpersonal trauma group. The findings may be pertinent to attachment anxiety-related hyperactivating strategies, as well as specific cultural values and a forbearance strategy applied to regulate traumatic distress in a collectivist society. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patients with social anxiety disorder (SAD) have a cognitive preference to negatively evaluate emotional information. In particular, the preferential biases in prosodic emotion recognition in SAD have been much less explored. The present study aims to investigate whether SAD patients retain negative evaluation biases across visual and auditory modalities when given sufficient response time to recognise emotions. METHODS Thirty-one SAD patients and 31 age- and gender-matched healthy participants completed a culturally suitable non-verbal emotion recognition task and received clinical assessments for social anxiety and depressive symptoms. A repeated measures analysis of variance was conducted to examine group differences in emotion recognition. RESULTS Compared to healthy participants, SAD patients were significantly less accurate at recognising facial and prosodic emotions, and spent more time on emotion recognition. The differences were mainly driven by the lower accuracy and longer reaction times for recognising fearful emotions in SAD patients. Within the SAD patients, lower accuracy of sad face recognition was associated with higher severity of depressive and social anxiety symptoms, particularly with avoidance symptoms. CONCLUSION These findings may represent a cross-modality pattern of avoidance in the later stage of identifying negative emotions in SAD. This pattern may be linked to clinical symptom severity.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between waist circumference and risk of male lung cancer incidence. Methods: Since May 1, 2006, all the male employees including the retirees in Kailuan Group had been recruited into a Chinese Kailuan Male Cohort study. Information on anthropometries including body weight, height and waist circumference were collected at the baseline investigation, as well as information on newly-diagnosed lung cancer cases during the follow-up period. Waist circumference was grouped by quintiles of the population waist circumference distribution and categorized into the following five groups: <80, 80-, 85-, 90- and ≥95 cm, with the relevant normal group, the second quintile group (80-cm), serving as the referent category. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the association between levels of waist circumference and risk of lung cancer. Results: A total of 105 386 males were recruited in the study, with 739 651.13 person-years of follow-up and an average follow-up period of 7.00 years. By the end of 2014, a total of 707 lung cancer cases were identified in the cohort study. Compared with males having the 80-cm of waist circumference, the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of lung cancer were 1.17(0.90-1.52), 0.96(0.74-1.23), 0.94(0.72-1.21) and 0.80(0.63-1.03) for the <80, 85-, 90- and ≥95 cm of waist circumference, after adjustment for potential confounding factors including age, education level, smoking status and pack-year amount, alcohol consumption, physical activities, environment for working place and the prevalence on diabetes. The inverse association existed in smokers (≥95 cm compared to 80-cm of waist circumference: HR=0.69, 95%CI: 0.48-0.99) and alcohol drinkers (≥95 cm compared to 80-cm of waist circumference: HR=0.65, 95%CI: 0.45-0.94) when analysis was conducted in subgroups stratified by smoking or alcohol drinking status. Conclusion: Waist circumference might be inversely associated with male lung cancer risk.

Abstract
Smartphone addiction is considered a form of technological addiction that has attracted increasing attention. The present study developed and validated the short-form Smartphone Addiction Inventory (SPAI-SF) and established cutoff point for screening smartphone addiction based on diagnostic criteria established by psychiatric interview. A total of 268 participants completed an online survey that collected demographic data, smartphone use behaviours, and responses to the 26-item SPAI. Each participant also completed a psychiatric interview. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed that the 10-item SPAI-SF replicated the structure of original 26-item SPAI accurately, yielding a four-factor model consisting of compulsive behaviour, functional impairment, withdrawal, and tolerance. For maximal diagnostic accuracy, a cutoff point of 24/25 best discriminated cases of smartphone addiction from diagnostic negatives. The present findings suggest that both the 26-item SPAI and SPAI-SF manifest the four constructs of behavioural addiction and the characteristics of smartphone addiction. The cutoff point determined by psychiatrists' diagnostic interview will be useful for clinical screening and epidemiologic research.

Abstract
The Singapore Chinese Physician Training College has been playing a role in the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the training of TCM talents in modern and contemporary Singapore not to be ignored. Due to the limitations of the objective condition, the College had to creatively compile by themselves 115 volumes of teaching materials with rather complete subjects, which did pay attention to applying theory to practice, ran through the thought of Chinese integrating with western medicine, and is of literature and cultural significance. As a carrier of educational contents and methods, these teaching materials not only embodied the educational idea of the editor, but also reflected the status of TCM development in modern Singapore.

Abstract
Objective: It has been reported by some prospective studies that C-reactive protein (CRP) is associated with cancer risk. However, the correlation between CRP and digestive system cancers has not been evaluated in Chinese females. We conducted a large population-based cohort study to investigate whether elevated level of CRP in serum is associated with an increased risk of digestive system cancers in Chinese women. Methods: From the Chinese Kailuan Female Cohort, 19, 437 women were enrolled in this study in July 2006, and all of the subjects were followed up through 2014. At the baseline investigation, the serum levels of high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) were tested for all subjects, and demographic information and risk factor data were collected. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to calculate the hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) for the baseline levels of hsCRP after adjusting for age, marital status, smoking, drinking, body mass index (BMI), diabetes and physical activity, and risk of digestive system tumors (including colorectal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreas cancer, liver and gallbladder cancer, and other cancers). Results: By Dec 31, 2014, a total of 100 incident cancer cases were observed, including 47 colorectal cancers, 17 stomach cancers, and altogether 29 pancreas, liver and gallbladder cancers. All the subjects investigated were divided into three groups according to the level of hsCRP (<1 mg/L, 1-3 mg/L and >3 mg/L). The 8-year cumulative incidence of digestive system cancers were 405/100 000, 520/100 000 and 787/100 000 in these 3 groups, respectively (Log rank test χ2 = 8.37, P=0.015). Compared to those with lower hsCRP levels (<1 mg/L), the women with higher hsCRP (>3 mg/L) had a significantly increased risk of pancreas, liver and gallbladder cancers (HR = 2.70, 95% CI = 1.06-6.91; Ptrend = 0.036). Conclusions: Elevated levels of hsCRP at baseline may be associated with increased risk of certain digestive system cancers.

Abstract
Although lupus is, by definition, associated with genetic and immunological factors, its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. The up-to-date research findings point out that various genetic and epigenetic factors, especially gene-specific and site-specific methylation, are believed to contribute to the initiation and development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This review presents and summarizes the association between abnormal DNA methylation of immune-related cells and lupus-like diseases, as well as the possible mechanisms of immune disorder caused by DNA methylation, aiming at a better understanding of the roles of aberrant DNA methylation in the initiation and development of certain forms of lupus and providing a new insight into promising therapeutic regimens in lupus-like diseases.

Abstract
Inheriting amorphous atomic structures without crystalline lattices, bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) are known to have superior mechanical properties, such as high strength approaching the ideal value, but are susceptible to catastrophic failures. Understanding the plastic-flow dynamics of BMGs is important for achieving stable plastic flow in order to avoid catastrophic failures, especially under tension, where almost all BMGs demonstrate limited plastic flow with catastrophic failure. Previous findings have shown that the plastic flow of BMGs displays critical dynamics under compression tests, however, the plastic-flow dynamics under tension are still unknown. Here we report that power-law critical dynamics can also be achieved in the plastic flow of tensile BMGs by introducing flaws. Differing from the plastic flow under compression, the flaw-induced plastic flow under tension shows an upward trend in the amplitudes of the load drops with time, resulting in a stable plastic-flow stage with a power-law distribution of the load drop. We found that the flaw-induced plastic flow resulted from the stress gradients around the notch roots, and the stable plastic-flow stage increased with the increase of the stress concentration factor ahead of the notch root. The findings are potentially useful for predicting and avoiding the catastrophic failures in tensile BMGs by tailoring the complex stress fields in practical structural-applications.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to investigate the disaster experiences of nurses called to assist survivors one month after the 2013 Ya'an earthquake. BACKGROUND China has experienced an increasing number of earthquake disasters in the past four decades. Although a health and disaster management system was initiated after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, nurses' roles and experiences in a disaster have been overlooked. METHODS The researchers used qualitative descriptive design that included 16 participants. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and observation notes, after which a qualitative content analysis was conducted. FINDINGS Three major themes emerged: the process of being dispatched from hospitals to the disaster zone, the effort involved in getting to and working in the affected site and reflecting on the challenges they encountered. DISCUSSION About half of the participants had received disaster nursing training before deploying to the disaster site, but they consistently expressed a lack of physical and psychological preparedness regarding the process of being dispatched from their hospitals to the disaster zone. LIMITATIONS This was a single-incident experience. Caution should be taken when trying to extend the findings to other parts of China. CONCLUSION These findings highlighted the need for disaster in-service training as well as for having disaster plans in place. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY Hospital and nursing leaders should provide disaster training opportunities that included topics such as compiling resource inventories, formulating disaster drills and simulations, managing emergencies, and using emergency communication methods. Health policy-makers should be required to prioritize capacity-building training for front-line nurses as well as to develop and implement disaster management plans to better prepare nurses for future disasters.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the association between baseline body mass index (BMI) and risk of lung cancer in non-smoking males. Methods: A dynamic non-smoking male cohort was established on May, 2006. Baseline information on demography, lifestyle, such as smoking status and alcohol consumption, anthropometry, such as body height and weight, were collected during the baseline interview, and the information of newly-diagnosed lung cancer cases were also collected during the follow-up period. Multivariable Cox proportional-hazards regression model was used to analyze the association between baseline BMI and lung cancer in non-smoking males. Results: By December 31, 2011, a total of 48 799 male non-smokers had been assessed in the study and there were 214 620.18 person-years of follow-up and 4.40 years of average follow-up period. During follow-up, 198 lung cancer cases were identified among the 48 799 non-smoking males. Compared with those with normal BMI (kg/m2) (18.5≤BMI<24.0), the hazard ratio (95%CI) of lung cancer were 1.14(0.53-2.45), 0.57(0.41-0.78) and 0.61(0.38-0.97) for underweight (BMI<18.5), overweight (24.0≤BMI<28.0) and obese males (≥28.0), respectively, after adjustment for potential confounding factors, including age, education level, alcohol consumption, physical activity, history of diabetes and work environment. Baseline BMI was negatively associated with the risk of lung cancer in non-smoking males and the risk would be reduced by 22% (HR=0.78, 95% CI: 0.64-0.95) for per 5 kg/m2 BMI increase. The negative association between BMI and risk of lung cancer was significant among non-smoking males who aged ≥50 years, and in those who had physical exercise <4 times/week, never drunk and worked above the coal mine, and for per 5 kg/m2 BMI increase, the risk of lung cancer would be reduced by 26%(HR=0.74, 95%CI: 0.60-0.92), 24%(HR=0.76, 95%CI: 0.62-0.95), 20% (HR=0.80, 95%CI: 0.65-1.00) and 23% (HR=0.77, 95%CI: 0.61-0.97), respectively. The result was similar after excluding the cancer patients newly diagnose within 1-year and their contribution person years. Conclusion: Baseline BMI might be negatively associated with risk of lung cancer in non-smoking males.

Abstract
A growing number of studies indicate that posttraumatic cognitions play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the effects of posttraumatic cognitions on general psychopathology beyond PTSD remain unclear. The current study aimed to validate the Chinese version of the Child Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory (CPTCI-C) and to investigate the relationship between posttraumatic cognitions and psychopathology. A community sample of 285 school-aged children and adolescents (aged 9-17, 160 [56.1 %] female) reported their trauma-related cognitions on the CPTCI-C and completed measures of symptoms of PTSD, depression, and generalized anxiety. Parents reported their children's internalizing and externalizing problems. We validated a revised version of the CPTCI-C based on the results of confirmatory factor analyses. The resulting evidence suggests that this revised CPTCI-C possesses good internal consistency, fair 6-week temporal stability, and good concurrent validity. In addition to significant correlations between posttraumatic cognitions and internalizing and externalizing psychopathology, after controlling for age, gender, and trauma types, both the revised CPTCI-C subscale scores conveyed unique contributions to psychological distress while only the maladaptive appraisals of the trauma remained weakly associated with externalizing problems. Structural equation modeling analysis showed that maladaptive appraisals of the trauma had a direct longitudinal impact on chronic PTSD severity. No mediation effect of posttraumatic cognitions on the relationship between acute and chronic PTSD activity was observed. The implications of our findings are discussed for the specificity of posttraumatic cognitions to posttraumatic internalizing psychopathology and cognitive interventions that target negative trauma-related cognitions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of transepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) in the treatment of keratoconus. METHODS Prospective study. Sixteen eyes of 16 patients with keratoconus underwent transepithelial CXL, and the fellow eyes were considered as the controls. The mean age was (22.4±6.5) years old. In the CXL group, topical anesthesia (0.1% tetracaine) was given for 15 minutes, and 0.5% riboflavin was applied until saturated in the anterior chamber. Then an ultraviolet A irradiance of 3 mW/cm(2) on the cornea was performed for 30 minutes. Postoperative corneal reepithelization time was recorded. Preoperative and postoperative examinations included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), refractive error, topography, corneal biomechanical parameters, thinnest corneal thickness, and endothelial cell density. RESULTS The mean corneal reepithelization time was 1.0(1.0 to 2.0) days. In the transepithelial CXL group, at the end of the 12-month follow-up, CDVA and refractive outcomes were significantly improved (P<0.05). Maximum K-value, anterior and posterior elevations were significantly decreased by (-2.23 ± 2.82)D (t=-3.153, P=0.007), (-4.69 ± 4.99) μm (t=-3.758, P=0.002), and (-13.94 ± 25.81) μm (t=-2.160, P=0.047), respectively. Corneal hysteresis, corneal resistance factor, thinnest corneal thickness, and endothelial cell density showed no significant difference (P>0.05). The differences in the changes of UDVA, CDVA, spherical equivalent refraction, and maximum K-value between the CXL and control groups were significant at 12 months (P<0.05). CONCLUSION Transepithelial CXL is effective in optimizing the irregular corneal surface of keratoconus, and might halt its progression. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2016, 52: 525-530).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between genetic variants in microRNA biosynthesis genes and the risk of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). METHODS A case-control study was conducted with 576 HNSCC patients and 1 552 healthy controls matched by factors as age-(±5 years) and sex. Eight potentially functional single nucleotide polymorphism loci in microRNA biosynthesis genes (DICER1, GEMIN3, and PIWIL1) were genotyped using the Illumina Infinium BeadChip platform. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were performed to assess the association between genotypes and HNSCC risk. RESULTS The allele frequencies of rs1106042 (G> A) in PIWIL1 were significantly different between the cases and controls (P=0.011). After controlling for factors as age, sex, smoking and alcohol intake, the A allele of rs1106042 showed a decreased risk of HNSCC (additive model: adjusted OR=0.73, 95% CI: 0.57-0.93, P=0.011). RESULTS from the stratification analysis by age, sex, smoking, alcohol intake and tumor sites showed that the effect of rs1106042 A allele on HNSCC risk was significant in older age groups (≥60), females, nonsmokers, non-alcohol drinkers, and subjects with oral cavity cancer (P<0.05). CONCLUSION Potentially, functional single nucleotide polymorphism in PIWIL1 might modify the risk of HNSCC in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between different kinds of systolic blood pressure (SBP, including office, visit-to-visit, 24-hour ambulatory) and vascular damages (represented by carotid intima-media thickness, CIMT; brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, baPWV) in the elderly. METHODS A total of 2 814 participants aged of ≥60 years old and retired employees were selected with random sampling method from the individuals who took part in 2006-2007, 2008-2009, 2010-2011 health examination in Tangshan Kailuan Hospital, Kailuan Linxi Hospital, Kailuan Zhaogezhuang Hospital and with 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring data, CIMT and baPWV.Finally, 2 146 participants (1 438 males, average age (67.3±6.0) years old) were included to the analysis.Multivariable regression analysis was used to analyze association between the office, visit-to-visit, 24-hour, day-time, night-time SBP and CIMT and baPWV, respectively. RESULTS (1) The average SBP, DBP, CIMT and baPWV were (137.0±20.4) mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), (83.5±11.0) mmHg, (0.92±0.18)mm and (1 781.7±353.2)cm/s.(2) The participants were divided into high and low level groups according to the median of different SBPs, respectively. The results indicated that CIMT and baPWV were significantly higher in high level groups than in low level groups (all P<0.01). (3) After adjusting for gender and age, the partial correlate analysis showed that the office, visit-to-visit, 24-hour, day-time, night-time SBP positively associated with CIMT and baPWV (all P<0.01). (4) After adjusting for confounding factors, multivariable regression analysis showed that the office, visit-to-visit, 24-hour, day-time, night-time SBP were positively and linearly associated with CIMT and baPWV in total cohort, and standard regression coefficients were 0.157, 0.208, 0.175, 0.169, 0.163, 0.479, 0.420, 0.401, 0.389 and 0.354, respectively. In addition, similar results were observed in male and female participants but there was no significance between night-time SBP and CIMT in female participants. CONCLUSIONS Office, visit-to-visit, 24-hour, day-time, night-time SBP are associated with vascular damages, and the best associations are observed between visit-to-visit SBP and vascular function damage.
