Abstract
OBJECTIVE Hemodialysis treatment has been revealed to increased the systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP). Right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) had been demonstrated to predict mortality in chronic renal failure patients. We investigate the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension and RVD among patients and possible contributing factors for pulmonary hypertension. PATIENTS AND METHODS A cross-sectional survey consisted of 70 hemodialysis patients was performed in our hemodialysis center. By using echocardiography, an estimated systolic pulmonary artery pressure of > 35 mmHg at rest met the criterion of pulmonary hypertension. Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) of the right ventricle was performed in all patients. RESULTS 27 out of 70 (38.57%) patients met the definition of pulmonary hypertension, while 32 out of 70 (45.71%) patients met the definition of RVD. Compared to patients without pulmonary hypertension, patients with pulmonary hypertension demonstrated higher systolic blood pressure and lower left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). RVD, indicated by TDI myocardial performance index (MPI), was worse impaired in patients with pulmonary hypertension. Echocardiographic findings suggested elevated MPI values of right ventricular and right ventricular wall thickness were significantly associated with sPAP. While a high level of LVEF and Kt/V values was inversely correlated with sPAP. The multivariate determinants of pulmonary hypertension were systolic blood pressure and Kt/V values. CONCLUSIONS Among hemodialysis patients, pulmonary hypertension is extraordinary common and is significantly associated with RVD. The poor control of systolic blood pressure and volume overload have played an important role in the mechanism of pulmonary hypertension in chronic uremia patients.

Abstract
It is well established that three-dimensional honeycomb-like nanofibrous structures enhance cell activity. In this work, we report that electrospun polymer nanofibres self-assemble into three-dimensional honeycomb-like structures. The underlying mechanism is studied by varying the polymer solution concentration, collecting substrates and working distance. The polymer solution concentration has a significant effect on the size of the electrospun nanofibres. The collection substrate and working distance affect the electric field strength, the evaporation of solvent and the discharging of nanofibres and consequently these two had a significant influence on the self-assembly of nanofibres.

Abstract
We investigated the in-plane resistivity anisotropy for underdoped Ba(Fe(1-x)Co(x))(2)As(2) single crystals with improved quality. We demonstrate that the anisotropy in resistivity in the magnetostructural ordered phase arises from the anisotropy in the residual component which increases in proportion to the Co concentration x. This gives evidence that the anisotropy originates from the impurity scattering by Co atoms substituted for the Fe sites, rather than the so far proposed mechanisms such as the anisotropy of Fermi velocities of reconstructed Fermi surface pockets. As doping proceeds to the paramagnetic-tetragonal phase, a Co impurity transforms to a weak and isotropic scattering center.

Abstract
Graft injury after small-for-size liver transplantation impairs graft function and threatens the survival of the recipients. The use of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) for liver injury protection and repair is promising. Our aim was to investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) secreted by ADSCs in the treatment of small-for-size liver graft injury. Studies were performed using ADSCs with VEGF secretion blocked by RNA interference. In vitro, ADSCs prevented apoptosis of freshly isolated liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) by secretion of VEGF. Syngeneic 35% orthotopic liver transplantation followed by implantation of syngeneic ADSCs through the portal vein system was performed using Wistar rats. We found VEGF secreted by implanted ADSCs improved graft microcirculatory disturbances, serum liver function parameters and survival. The improved microcirculatory status was also reflected by reduced hepatocellular damage, especially LSEC apoptosis and improved liver regeneration. These effects were accompanied by decreased expression of endothelin receptor type A, increased Bcl-2/Bax ratio, decreased expression of Bad and elevated proportion of phosphorylated Bad. In conclusion, implanted syngeneic ADSCs attenuated small-for-size liver graft injuries and subsequently enhanced liver regeneration in a rat 35% liver transplantation model. The VEGF secreted by implanted ADSCs played a crucial role in this process.

Abstract
Recently, two-dimensional microwave imaging diagnostics such as the electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI) system and microwave imaging reflectometry (MIR) have been developed to study magnetohydrodynamics instabilities and turbulence in magnetically confined plasmas. These imaging systems utilize large optics to collect passive emission or reflected radiation. The design of this optics can be classified into two different types: reflective or refractive optical systems. For instance, an ECEI/MIR system on the TEXTOR tokamak [Park et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 75, 3787 (2004)] employed the reflective optics which consisted of two large mirrors, while the TEXTOR ECEI upgrade [B. Tobias et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 80, 093502 (2009)] and systems on DIII-D, ASDEX-U, and KSTAR adopted refractive systems. Each system has advantages and disadvantages in the standing wave problem and optical aberrations. In this paper, a comparative study between the two optical systems has been performed in order to design a MIR system for KSTAR.

Abstract
The installation of a new electron cyclotron emission imaging diagnostic for the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) is underway, making use of a unique optical port cassette design, which allows placement of refractive elements inside the cryostat region without adverse effects. The result is unprecedented window access for the implementation of a state of the art imaging diagnostic. A dual-array optical design has been developed, capable of simultaneously imaging the high and low field sides of the plasma with independent features of focal plane translation, vertical zoom, and radial channel spacing. The number of translating optics has been minimized by making use of a zoom lens triplet and parabolic plasma facing lens for maximum channel uniformity over a continuous vertical zoom range of 3:1. The simulated performance of this design is presented along with preliminary laboratory characterization data.

Abstract
The ECE imaging (ECEI) diagnostic tested on the TEXTOR tokamak revealed the sawtooth reconnection physics in unprecedented detail, including the first observation of high-field-side crash and collective heat transport [H. K. Park, N. C. Luhmann, Jr., A. J. H. Donné et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 195003 (2006)]. An improved ECEI system capable of visualizing both high- and low-field sides simultaneously with considerably better spatial coverage has been developed for the KSTAR tokamak in order to capture the full picture of core MHD dynamics. Direct 2D imaging of other MHD phenomena such as tearing modes, edge localized modes, and even Alfvén eigenmodes is expected to be feasible. Use of ECE images of the optically thin edge region to recover 2D electron density changes during L/H mode transitions is also envisioned, providing powerful information about the underlying physics. The influence of density fluctuations on optically thin ECE is discussed.

Abstract
A new electron cyclotron emission imaging diagnostic has been commissioned on the DIII-D tokamak. Dual detector arrays provide simultaneous two-dimensional images of T(e) fluctuations over radially distinct and reconfigurable regions, each with both vertical and radial zoom capability. A total of 320 (20 vertical×16 radial) channels are available. First data from this diagnostic demonstrate the acquisition of coherent electron temperature fluctuations as low as 0.1% with excellent clarity and spatial resolution. Details of the diagnostic features and capabilities are presented.

Abstract
AIMS To establish a multiplex PCR method for simultaneous and rapid detection of Spiroplasma eriocheiris and white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) in Procambarus clarkii with recommendations for application to other crustacea. METHODS AND RESULTS Three primer sets were mixed at a ratio of 1:3:1 to amplify specific fragments of the S. eriocheiris, WSSV, P. clarkii crayfish (control organism) genomes, respectively. S. eriocheiris and WSSV were used to challenge the susceptible crustacea in the experimental groups. Total DNA of the samples was purified and detected by multiplex PCR. The PCR-amplified products produced four groups of results as follows. One fragment of 1195 bp, amplified by the primer set ITS-crayfish/28S-crayfish, served as an internal control, showed no pathogen detection, thus confirming the specificity of our positive tests. Two groups represented by: (i) samples challenged by S. eriocheiris alone, or (ii) challenged by WSSV alone, yielded two fragments each; i.e. those from S. eriocheiris (271 bp) plus the internal control and those from WSSV (530 bp) plus the internal control. Finally, for the fourth group, in cases of double challenged treatments, all three amplified products were detected simultaneously. CONCLUSIONS Simultaneous and rapid detection of two pathogens in P. clarkii is important to maintain productive and healthy crayfish in aquaculture. The direct detection of S. eriocheiris and WSSV from P. clarkii is practicable with multiplex PCR. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY This study shows that the two pathogens are simultaneously and rapidly detected in P. clarkii by multiplex PCR, thus increasing the efficiency of pathogen detection.

Abstract
Crab culture is a very important economic industry in China. An epidemic of tremor disease of Chinese mitten crabs, Eriocheir sinensis, has become a serious problem in recent years. A spiroplasm has been proved to be the causative agent of this disease. Oxytetracycline (OTC) is used widely in aquaculture and was confirmed to be very effective against this pathogen. In this study, the distribution and depletion patterns of OTC in crab muscle were evaluated following single intramuscular doses of 2, 8 and 40 mg kg(-1) body weight. OTC was detected with a validated HPLC method. Concentration-time profiles were well described by a three-compartment model with first-order absorption after a single dose of 8 and 40 mg kg(-1). For comparison, a non-compartment model was employed. A withdrawal time of 48.29 and 55.92 days was suggested prior to consumption after receiving 8 and 40 mg kg(-1). A recommended therapeutic dose of OTC in theory was calculated to be 36.37 mg kg(-1). OTC was distributed well throughout the body. The elimination of OTC in muscle was slower compared with fish and other crustaceans. A dose of 40 mg kg(-1) is suggested for practical use.

Abstract
A new TEXTOR electron cyclotron emission imaging system has been developed and employed, providing a diagnostic with new features and enhanced capabilities when compared to the legacy system it replaces. Optical coupling to the plasma has been completely redesigned, making use of new minilens arrays for reduced optical aberration and providing the new feature of vertical zoom, whereby the vertical coverage is now remotely adjustable on a shot-by-shot basis from 20-35 cm. Other innovations, such as the implementation of stacked quasioptical planar notch filters, allow for the diagnostic to be operated without interruption or degradation in performance during electron cyclotron resonance heating. Successful commissioning of the new diagnostic and a demonstration of the improved capabilities are presented in this paper, along with a discussion of the new technologies employed.

Abstract
A new water potential, DMIP (distributed multipoles, implicit polarization), is constructed using distributed multipoles to describe the electrostatic interactions, while accounting for polarization implicitly. In this procedure, small clusters are randomly sampled from atomistic simulations of bulk water using the AMOEBA (Ren and Ponder, J Comput Chem 2002, 23, 1497) potential. The multipole moments of the central water in each cluster are obtained from ab initio densities for each cluster, and the moments are then averaged over all clusters. Properties of bulk water calculated using DMIP compare favorably with existing data from AMOEBA simulations and experiment, with a conservative estimate of reduction in compute time of roughly 40%. The implicit force-field is also shown to work compatibly with existing polarizable multipole-based force-fields for biomolecules.

Abstract
A 128 channel two-dimensional electron cyclotron emission imaging system collects time-resolved 16x8 images of T(e) profiles and fluctuations on the TEXTOR tokamak. Electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI) is undergoing significant changes which promise to revolutionize and extend its capabilities far beyond what has been achieved to date. These include the development of a minilens array configuration with increased sensitivity antennas, a new local oscillator pumping scheme, enhanced electron cyclotron resonance heating shielding, and a highly flexible optical design with vertical zoom capability. Horizontal zoom and spot size (rf bandwidth) capabilities are also being developed with new ECEI electronics. An interface module is under development to remotely control all key features of the new ECEI instrument, many of which can be changed during a plasma discharge for maximum flexibility.

Abstract
Aqueous solvation of carboxylate groups, as present in the glycine zwitterion and the dipeptide aspartylalanine, is studied employing a force-field that includes distributed multipole electrostatics and induction contributions (Amoebapro: P. Ren and J. W. Ponder, J. Comput. Chem., 2002, 23, 1497; P. Ren and J. W. Ponder, J. Phys. Chem. B, 2003, 107, 5933; J. W. Ponder and D. A. Case, Adv. Protein Chem., 2003, 66, 27). Radial and orientation distribution functions, as well as hydration numbers, are calculated and compared with existing simulation data derived from Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics (CPMD), and also distributed-charge force-fields. Connections are also made with experimental data for solvation of carboxylates in water. Our findings show that Amoebapro yields carboxylate solvation properties in very good agreement with CPMD results, significantly closer agreement than can be obtained from traditional force-fields. We also demonstrate that the influence of solvation on the conformation of the dipeptide is markedly different using Amoebapro compared with the other force-fields.

Abstract
For many thin-film applications substrate imperfections such as particles, pits, scratches, and general roughness, can nucleate film defects which can severely detract from the coating's performance. Previously we developed a coat-and-etch process, termed the ion beam thin film planarization process, to planarize substrate particles up to approximately 70 nm in diameter. The process relied on normal incidence etching; however, such a process induces defects nucleated by substrate pits to grow much larger. We have since developed a coat-and-etch process to planarize approximately 70 nm deep by 70 nm wide substrate pits; it relies on etching at an off-normal incidence angle, i.e., an angle of approximately 470 degrees from the substrate normal. However, a disadvantage of this pit smoothing process is that it induces defects nucleated by substrate particles to grow larger. Combining elements from both processes we have been able to develop a silicon-based, coat-and-etch process to successfully planarize approximately 70 nm substrate particles and pits simultaneously to at or below 1 nm in height; this value is important for applications such as extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) masks. The coat-and-etch process has an added ability to significantly reduce high-spatial frequency roughness, rendering a nearly perfect substrate surface.

Abstract
We describe the use of two-photon absorption in submicron silicon wire waveguides for all-optical switching by cross-absorption modulation. Optical pulses of 3.2 ps were successfully converted from high power pump to low power continuous-wave signal with a fast recovery time. High speed operation was based on the induced optical absorption from non-degenerate two-photon absorption inside the waveguides.

Abstract
Growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF) is thought to perform two distinct functions within the brain. GRF synthesized in the median eminence (ME) stimulates the release of growth hormone (GH) from the pituitary, while GRF in the suprachiasmatic nucleus and median preoptic area (SCN/MPOA) may stimulate selection of dietary protein. These two functions may be coupled to regulate and enhance growth. During zinc repletion, a period characterized by increased protein intake and accelerated growth, we examined this coupling by measuring GRF peptide content in hypothalamic sites and neutralizing GRF function by infusing anti-GRF antibody into the hypothalamus during zinc repletion. Total GRF content and GRF content in the ME and SCN/MPOA were decreased in zinc-deficient (Zn-) rats compared to zinc-adequate (Zn+) rats (P < 0.05). There were no differences in GRF content during zinc repletion in either nuclei. Subsequently, we investigated the macronutrient feeding patterns of rats chronically infused with anti-GRF IgG into the lateral ventricle of the brain during zinc repletion. All Zn- and Zn+ rats administered anti-GRF IgG exhibited a reduction in protein intake during zinc repletion. The Zn- rats receiving anti-GRF-IgG consumed equal amounts of total diet compared to those receiving vehicle during the repletion period however they consumed less carbohydrate (P < 0.05) and considerably more fat (P < 0.02). There were no significant differences in carbohydrate or fat intake in Zn+ rats receiving anti-GRF antibody. These results suggest that GRF likely directs protein intake during normal growth, but may interact with additional appetite-controlling neuropeptides during zinc repletion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the roles of apoptosis in the pulmonary artery remodeling of pulmonary hypertension secondary to hypoxia and illustrate the relative genes expression. METHODS Thirty rats were divided into hypoxia group (10% O2, 8 h/d) and normal control group. On the 15th day of hypoxia, pulmonary artery pressure and right ventricular hypertrophy index were measured and pulmonary artery vessels were studied by light microscope. Then terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) technique was used to detect nucleosomal DNA fragmentation of apoptotic cells. In situ hybridization and RT-PCR were used to detect the expression level of bcl-2 and bax. RESULTS The pulmonary artery pressure and right ventricular hypertrophy index of hypoxia group were increased significantly, the pulmonary artery wall of hypoxic group become incrassate than control group. Apoptotic cells can be found in lung with hypoxia or without hypoxia. Compared with control group, apoptotic index of hypoxic group decreased significantly. Through the methods of in situ hybridization and RT-PCR, we found the expression of bcl-2 increased whereas bax decreased significantly in the hypoxic group. CONCLUSION The alternation in bcl-2 and bax expression induced by hypoxia play an important role in the pulmonary artery remodeling which is the main pathologic change of pulmonary hypertension secondary to hypoxia.
