Abstract
Water pollution by pesticides as the result of intensive agriculture and horticulture has brought many negative consequences to humans and ecosystems. Among others, chemical sensor systems are under intense development for direct pesticide analysis in aqueous samples as a cost effective and simple alternative analytical method. In this work, a set of zinc phthalocyanines is studied in its liquid sensing properties using quartz crystal microbalances. Four different species selected from the two most common organophosphorus and carbamate classes of pesticides are used as test analytes. The phthalocyanines are chemically modified with different fluorinated substituents to increase sensor sensitivity and govern pesticide selectivity in order to create sensors with widely diverging analyte responses. By this means, sensors with a general high sensitivity and selectivity for the two pesticide classes were obtained and detection limits down to 0.03 mg.L-1 could be achieved. The response data of the sensors are analyzed in detail using exploratory multivariate data evaluation methods. The results show that phthalocyanine based sensors are a truly capable platform for chemical analysis systems of aqueous samples.

Abstract
The synthesis of tetra and octa perfluoroalkyl substituted zinc and metal free phthalocyanines ( ZnPc and H 2 Pc ) are reported. The compounds 1–5 have been prepared by nucleophilic substitution of 4-nitrophthalonitrile with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctanethiol, 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecan-1-ol, 1H,1H-perfluorodecan-1-ol, 1H,1H-perfluorotetradecan-1-ol and 1H,1H-perfluoro-3,6,9-trioxatridecan-1-ol, respectively. The compounds 6–8 have been prepared by the reaction of 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecan-1-ol, 1H,1H-perfluorodecan-1-ol and 1H,1H-perfluoro-3,6,9-trioxatridecan-1-ol with 4,5-dichlororphthalonitrile, respectively. The compound 9 with thia-bridge has been synthesized from 4,5-dichlororphthalonitrile. Zinc and metal free phthalocyanines were obtained from the corresponding phthalonitrile derivatives. All compounds were characterized by using mass, 1 H , 19 F NMR, UV-vis and FT-IR as well as elemental analysis. Tetra substituted Zn ( II ) phthalocyanines are slightly soluble only in THF (Compound 4a and 7a are insoluble) but metal free phthalocyanines are not soluble. Octa substituted Zn ( II ) and metal free phthalocyanine are soluble in polar solvents such as THF and DMSO.

Abstract
In this work, the investigation of structural features, spectral and electrical properties of spin-coated films of substituted lutetium bisphthalocyanine Lu ( Pc ( SR )8)2, where R = - C 6 H 13 was carried out. The current-voltage characteristics of ITO/ Lu ( Pc ( SR )8)2/ Al film sandwich structures were measured over the temperature range 120–380 K. AC electrical properties, mainly the dependence of conductance and capacitance on frequency and temperature are also discussed. Structural and electrical properties of anthracene-doped Lu ( Pc ( SR )8)2, films have also been investigated. Furthermore, optical properties of thin films of pure and anthracene-doped Lu ( Pc ( SR )8)2 films were also studied using spectroscopic ellipsometry, while atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to study changes in films' morphology of doped films and compared with that of undoped films. Doping Lu ( Pc ( SR )8)2, films with anthracene is shown to lead to an increase in films' conductivity. These studies will provide full understanding of the physical properties of the Lu ( Pc ( SR )8)2, thin films, both doped and undoped, with the aim of exploitation in electronic device applications, such as fabrication of all organic solar cells.

Abstract
The design of a dendrimeric-like diglycerol-tetrasubstituted Zn ( II ) phthalocyanine resulted in a remarkably water-soluble compound due to the presence of 16 hydroxyls. Several parameters relevant to evaluate the photodynamic efficiency of a potentiel photosensitizer such as: aggregation behavior, fluorescence properties, singlet oxygen generation, binding to a carrier protein model (Bovine Serum Albumin) and partition coefficient have been measured. Biocompatibility was demonstrated by dark cytotoxicity in in vitro experiments. The absence of phototoxicity can be explained by an elevated hydrophilicity. All the collected data have confirmed that this new substitution pattern is promising to be used on phthalocyanines aiming at being photodynamic therapy agents.

Abstract
Thiol stabilized CdTe quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles were synthesized in aqueous phase and were used as energy donors to tetra-triethyleneoxythia substituted aluminum, gallium and indium phthalocyanines through fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). Energy transfer occurred from the QDs to phthalocyanines upon photoexcitation of the QDs. An enhancement in efficiency of energy transfer with the nature of the carboxylic thiol stabilizer on the QDs was observed. As a result of the nanoparticle and the phthalocyanine mixing, the photoluminescence efficiency of the phthalocyanine moieties in the mixtures does not strictly follow the quantum yields of the bare phthalocyanines. The photochemistry study of phthalocyanines in the presence of the QDs revealed high singlet oxygen quantum yield, hence the possibility of using QDs in combination with phthalocyanines as photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy of cancer. The fluorescence of the CdTe quantum dots-phthalocyanine conjugates (QDs-Pc) were effectively quenched by addition of 1,4-benzoquinone.

Abstract
The new peripherally 2-mercaptopyridine tetrasubstituted zinc phthalocyanine (2) and its quaternized derivative (3) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H NMR spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy and mass spectra. The quaternized compound (3) shows excellent solubility in water, which makes it a potential photosensitizer for use in photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer. Fluorescence and singlet oxygen quantum yield measurements were conducted on 2-mercaptopyridine appended zinc phthalocyanines in dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) for both the non-ionic (2) and quaternized (3) derivatives, and in aqueous media for the water-soluble complex 3. General trends are described for fluorescence and singlet oxygen quantum yields of these compounds. In this study, the cells were incubated with a novel water-soluble zinc phthalocyanine derivative (3) and thereafter the cells were illuminated using broad-band incoherent light source of various energy levels. Cytotoxicity of PDT on two pleural malign mesothelioma cell lines was determined by colorimetric proliferation assay. In addition, after PDT treatment, determination of activity matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) were evaluated using gelatine zymography.
