Abstract
Monoclinic gallium oxide thin films were deposited on c-plane sapphire substrates at various substrate temperatures ranging from 450 °C to 700 °C by radio frequency magnetron sputtering technology. X-ray diffraction results showed that the deposited β-Ga2O3 films were oriented at ( 2 ¯ 01) direction. As the substrate temperature increased, the intensity of β-Ga2O3 peaks increased and bandgap decreased accordingly. Metal/semiconductor/metal structured solar-blind photodetectors based on β-Ga2O3 thin films growing at various substrate temperatures had been fabricated. The growth temperatures of thin films had no obvious influence on dark current and response to 365 nm light illuminations. The photoelectric properties such as responsivity and response speed of the thin films to 254 nm light illuminations were growth temperature dependent. At an applied bias of 50 V, the photodetectors prepared with 450 °C grown film had the highest responsivity of 2.18 A/W, and the photodetectors prepared with 700 °C grown film had the shortest rising time of 0.95 s under 254 nm light illuminations.

Abstract
In2O3 thin films were prepared on c-plane sapphire substrates using laser molecular beam epitaxy technique. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed that the In2O3 thin films were highly oriented along the (111) direction. The intensity of (222) diffraction peaks mainly depend on growth temperature, and the crystallite sizes mainly depend on oxygen pressure. The carrier concentrations exhibit a decrease with increasing growth temperature and oxygen pressure, meantime, the resistivity increase. The red shift of In2O3 thin films respect to that of bulk In2O3 can be explained by defect energy levels formation, the blue shift of In2O3 thin films depends on carrier concentration, can be explained by Burstein-Moss band-filling effect.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to investigate whether 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH) D] is associated with initial stroke severity and infarct volume, using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in patients with acute ischemic stroke. METHODS We studied a total of 235 patients who were admitted within 24 hours of acute ischemic stroke onset. Initial stroke severity was assessed using the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score. Infarct volume was measured using DWI. Multivariable linear and logistic regression analyses were used to test whether 25(OH) D represents an independent predictor of infarct volume and stroke severity (NIHSS score of ≥6). RESULTS Among 235 study patients, the median age was 64 years (IQR 56-75 years), and 125 (53.2%) were women. In multivariable models adjusted for other significant risk factors, 25(OH) D levels in the lowest and second interquartiles were associated with an increased risk of a NIHSS≥6 (with highest 25 (OH) D quartile as reference) with odd ratios (OR) 3.02(95% confidence interval [CI]:1.59-6.34) and 5.85(2.90-11.54). The median DWI infarct volumes for the serum 25(OH) D level quartiles (lowest to highest) were 12.35, 6.55, 2.44, and 1.59 ml. The median DWI infarct volume in the lowest serum 25(OH) D level quartile was larger than that in the other 3 quartiles (P<0.001). The median adjusted DWI infarct volume in the lowest serum 25(OH) D level quartile was statistically significantly larger than that in the other 3 quartiles (P<0.01). CONCLUSION In conclusion, reduced serum 25(OH) D levels in acute ischemic stroke are an early predictor of larger volumes of ischemic tissue and worse neurological deficit (assessed by the NIHSS).

Abstract
Sudden cardiac death (SCD), most commonly seen in coronary heart disease, is a kind of sudden death caused by series of cardiac parameters, which usually combines with myocardial infarction. However, some SCDs (including early myocardial infarction) happen suddenly and cause death in a very short time. In these circumstances, typical morphological changes are lack in macroscopic or microscopic fields, which make such SCDs become the emphasis and difficulty in the present research. SCD caused by myocardial infarction and abnormalities of cardiac conduction system (CCS) is related to atherosclerosis of coronary artery closely. This paper reviews cardiac dysfunction caused by myocardial infarction and diseases of CCS from morphology and molecular biology, and explores potential relationship between them. This paper aims to provide clues to the mechanism of myocardial infarction related sudden death and possible assistance for forensic diagnosis of SCD.

Abstract
Objective: To determine critical reference value (cut-off value) of serum pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) and neuron specific enolase(NSE) in the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer(SCLC). To evaluate the clinical significance of serum levels of ProGRP and NSE in diagnosis and differential diagnosis in SCLC. Methods: Three hundred and fifty-two SCLC patients, 163 non small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)patients , 193 benign pulmonary disease patients and 140 healthy people visiting in National Cancer Hospital were analyzed retrospectively from January 2014 to July 2017.The levels of serum ProGRP and NSE of people were determined using electrochemiluminescent immunoassay respectively . Reference value ranges of the makers were determined by using the method of ROC curves. Results: In NSCLC group, benign lung disease group, healthy control group and mixed group (NSCLC+ lung benign diseases+ healthy control group) as a reference, the cut-off values were 58.3, 62.3, 57.8, 61.3 ng/L. In the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of SCLC and NSCLC, benign lung diseases, healthy controls and mixed group, AUC of ProGRP was 0.940 (0.919-0.961), 0.941 (0.921-0.960), 0.959 (0.944-0.975), 0.946 (0.928-0.963) respectively. The sensitivities of ProGRP were 86.4%, 84.9%, 86.4% and 84.7% respectively. The specificities of ProGRP were 95.7%, 96.9%, 99.3%, 98% respectively. In all groups the Youden's index of ProGRP and NSE were 0.821 vs 0.612, 0.818 vs 0.674, 0.857 vs 0.810, 0.827 vs 0.674. In healthy controls, no statistically significant difference was found between ProGRP and NSE (P>0.05) in the diagnosis of AUC. However, in the remaining 3 groups, the ProGRP diagnosis of AUC was significantly greater than that of NSE (P<0.01). Compared with single marker detection, the sensitivity of combined detection of ProGRP and NSE in diagnosis of SCLC increased to 95.5%, 94%, 96.6% and 94% in each group. There was no significant difference between ProGRP and ProGRP+ NSE in the diagnosis of AUC when compared with the NSCLC group and the mixed group (P>0.05). However, when combined with a healthy control group and a benign lung disease group, the ProGRP+ NSE combination was the highest for AUC diagnosis, compared with ProGRP and NSE (P<0.01). In the SCLC ED group serum ProGRP and NSE levels[776.33(3 103.4)ng/L, 52.14(60.59)μg/L]were higher than those in the SCLC LD group[295.59(799.65)ng/L, 23.36(22.97)μg/L], respectively (all P<0.001). The serum ProGRP levels of N0, N1, N2 and N3 in TNM staging were 113.0(343.65), 167.04(724.56), 427.42(1 388.62), 735.99(1 709.95)ng/L respectively (all P<0.001). Serum ProGRP and NSE levels were not statistically different between the sex groups and the age groups (all P>0.05). Conclusion: To establish the cut-off value of serum ProGRP is helpful for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of SCLC.

Abstract
The high incidence rates of lung cancer have resulted in multiple progressions in cancer research leading to the development of novel therapeutic strategies. The three main branches of cancer research where improvements are being made are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. These research developments have significantly improved the survival rates of cancer patients as most of these therapeutic options target specific molecules involved in cancer progression and metastasis. Experimental research has successfully identified potentially important molecules responsible for cancer progression. Further, the above molecular markers of disease are clinically approved biomolecules of significant prognostic value. The above molecular biomolecules also helped in rapid identification of subgroups of patients who need immediate emergency treatment. Hypoxia is one of such conditions where the human system is deprived of an adequate oxygen supply and requires immediate treatment. Hypoxia markers have been proved to be beneficial in the timely management of cancer. The present review is focused on the latest updates in the area of hypoxia related to markers in the prognosis of lung cancer.

Abstract
To establish a large-scale isolation procedure for adult porcine islets usable as a donor source for xenotransplantation and as a model of human islet isolation, we improved several characteristics of the conventional isolation procedure. At a slaughterhouse we first selected a breeder pig over 1.5 years old (and over 200 kg in weight) with warm ischemic time (WIT) of 15 ± 2 minutes as nonheart-beating donors. Then, we made a special enzymic mixture that consisted of collagenase S-1 (260 U/mg, NittaZelatin, Japan), collagenase P (1.86 U/ml Lyo Boehringer-Mannheim, USA), DNase (Sigma, St. Louis, Mo), Disparse (NittaZelatin, Japan), and protease inhibitor (Sigma). Third, this mixture was injected very gently into the pancreatic duct at the time of pancreatic harvesting. To prevent overdigestion of the pancreas, the mixture was first cooled to less than 10°C. Fourth, during the warm digestion of pancreas, the pancreas with the enzymic mixture was quietly put in a water bath at 37°C without mechanical shaking. Fifth, we purified the islets with a COBE 2991 cell processor by the Dextran 70 gradient method, because Dextran 70 is very cheap and has the same purification effect as the Ficoll gradient. The results of 10 consecutive breeder porcine islet isolations are reported. The total yield of isolations of islets over 50 μm in the longest diameter after staining with Dithizone (DTZ) was 85,900 ± 19,954 islets, 291,667 ± 240,452 IEQ (2,900 ± 2,324 IEQ/g). The purity of the isolated islets was very high: 90.2 ± 3.8%. Glucose stimulation during in vitro incubation induced significant insulin release from isolated breeder porcine islets. In two of the diabetic rats receiving encapsulated islets grafts using a mesh-reinforced polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel bag (MRPB), a prominent reduction in serum glucose levels (less than 200 mg/dL) persisted for 13 and 19 days, respectively, after intraperitoneal xenotransplantation islets without immunosuppression. In conclusion, we succeeded in a more efficient and less-expensive isolation of a large amount of adult porcine islets from a nonheart-beating donor.

Abstract
Green tea polyphenols have recently attracted medical attention as bioactive agents with anticancer, antimicrobial, and antiviral effects. We discovered their new usage as preservative agents for tissue transplants. We preserved rat aortas in a DMEM solution containing polyphenols extracted from green tea leaves. The preserved aortas retained original structures and mechanical strength, and were devoid of any undesirable cell secretions for over a month under physiological conditions. In addition, aortas from Lewis rats preserved for a month and transplanted to allogenic ACI rats completely avoided rejection by the host, suggesting that the polyphenols have immunosuppressive actions on the aortic tissues. From these results, we conclude that polyphenol treatment of aortic tissue transplant can maintain its viability for extended periods of time either before or after transplantation, and the method can be applicable to other transplantation situations.

Abstract
We evaluated the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus (TAC) combined with corticosteroids in treating patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). One hundred seventy-seven biopsy-proven IMN patients were recruited in this retrospective clinical study. Sixty patients received TAC (target blood concentration of 4–8 ng/mL) and 117 patients received daily cyclophosphamide (CYC, 100 mg) combined with prednisone. Remission rates at the end of the first, second and third month in the TAC group were significantly higher than that in the CYC group (1st: 35.0 vs 19.7%, P<0.05; 2nd: 56.7 vs 38.5%, P<0.05; 3rd: 76.7 vs 59.0%, P<0.05). In the first 3 months, daily urinary protein and serum albumin in the TAC group obtained a better improvement than that in the CYC group (P<0.05). At the end of the sixth and the twelfth month, the remission rates, daily urinary protein and serum albumin were all comparable between the two groups (P>0.05). No significant difference of relapse rate between the groups was found (16.3 vs 12.0%, P>0.05). Patients were more likely to develop glucose intolerance in the TAC group. The TAC regimen obtained more benefits in treating IMN patients, especially in the first 3 months, than the CYC regimen.

Abstract
Passengers in aircraft cabins are exposed to low-pressure environments. One of the missing links in the research on thermal comfort under cabin conditions is the influence of low air pressure on the metabolic rate. In this research, we simulated the cabin pressure regime in a chamber in which the pressure level could be controlled. Three pressure levels (101/85/70 kPa) were tested to investigate how metabolic rate changed at different pressure levels. The results show that as pressure decreased, the respiratory flow rate (RFR) at standard condition (STPD: 0°C, 101 kPa) significantly decreased. Yet the oxygen (O2 ) consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2 ) production significantly increased, as reflected in the larger concentration difference between inhaled and exhaled air. A significant increase in the respiratory quotient (RQ) was also observed. For metabolic rate, no significant increase (P > 0.05) was detected when pressure decreased from 101 kPa to 85 kPa; however, the increase associated with a pressure decrease from 85 kPa to 70kPa was significant (P < 0.05). Empirical equations describing the above parameters are provided, which can be helpful for thermal comfort assessment in short-haul flights.

Abstract
Passengers' behavioral adjustments warrant greater attention in thermal comfort research in aircraft cabins. Thus, a field investigation on 10 commercial aircrafts was conducted. Environment measurements were made and a questionnaire survey was performed. In the questionnaire, passengers were asked to evaluate their thermal comfort and record their adjustments regarding the usage of blankets and ventilation nozzles. The results indicate that behavioral adjustments in the cabin and the use of blankets or nozzle adjustments were employed by 2/3 of the passengers. However, the thermal comfort evaluations by these passengers were not as good as the evaluations by passengers who did not perform any adjustments. Possible causes such as differences in metabolic rate, clothing insulation and radiation asymmetry are discussed. The individual difference seems to be the most probable contributor, suggesting possibly that passengers who made adjustments had a narrower acceptance threshold or a higher expectancy regarding the cabin environment. Local thermal comfort was closely related to the adjustments and significantly influenced overall thermal comfort. Frequent flying was associated with lower ratings for the cabin environment.

Abstract
Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants is mediated by the signaling molecules azelaic acid (AzA), glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P), and salicylic acid (SA). Here, we show that AzA and G3P transport occurs via the symplastic route, which is regulated by channels known as plasmodesmata (PD). In contrast, SA moves via the extracytosolic apoplast compartment. We found that PD localizing proteins (PDLP) 1 and 5 were required for SAR even though PD permeability in pdlp1 and 5 mutants was comparable to or higher than wild-type plants, respectively. Furthermore, PDLP function was required in the recipient cell, suggesting regulatory function in SAR. Interestingly, overexpression of PDLP5 drastically reduced PD permeability, yet also impaired SAR. PDLP1 interacted with AZI1 (lipid transfer-like protein required for AzA- and G3P-induced SAR) and contributed to its intracellular partitioning. Together, these results reveal the transport routes of SAR chemical signals and highlight the regulatory role of PD-localizing proteins in SAR.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with cryoablation in patients with unresectable large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: A total of 122 patients with unresectable large HCC admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between November 2011 and July 2015 were retrospectively involved. The patients were divided into study group (58 patients who underwent TACE combined with cryoablation) and control group (64 patients who underwent TACE alone). Short-term effect of the initial treatment, long-term effect, prognostic factors for survival and adverse reactions were statistically analyzed. Result: There was no statistical difference in general information between two groups. The effective rates of the study and control group were 29.3% and 10.9% (P=0.011), and the control rates were 79.3% and 62.5% (P=0.042). The median survival time was 11.0 months (95% CI 7.4-14.6) for the study group and 5.0 months (95% CI 4.0-6.0) for the control group, the 6-, 12-, and 18-month overall survival rates for the study and control group were 84.5%, 49.5%, 26.8% and 48.1%, 17.8%, 11.1%, respectively (all P<0.01). On multivariate analysis, negative distant metastasis, Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer B-stage, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio ≤5, alpha fetoprotein<400 μg/L, combined treatment and effective initial treatment were independent protective factors for survival of patients with large HCC. Conclusions: The prognosis of patients with unresectable large HCC is affected by multiple factors. In comparison with TACE alone, TACE combined with cryoablation has advantage in both short-term and long-term effect with low incidence of serious adverse reactions, it is an effective and safe treatment option for patients with unresectable large HCC.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cytopenia is a common hematologic finding in patients with HCV infection. Only a few studies have addressed bone marrow (BM) morphologic findings in these patients. No systemic study has been performed in these patients with liver transplantation (LT). METHODS We retrospectively examined BMs in 49 hepatitis C patients with and without prior LT (n = 19 and n = 30). RESULTS Among the patients with an available complete blood count (n = 46), the majority of them presented with cytopenia involving one or multiple cell lineages including unicytopenia (13%, n = 6), bicytopenia (31%, n = 14), and pancytopenia (43%, n = 20). Examination of the BM revealed a wide spectrum of morphologic findings ranging from benign reactive processes to overt malignant processes which included myeloid, lymphoid, and plasma cell neoplasms. The severity of cytopenia was not correlated with cirrhosis or antiviral therapy. However, the severity of cytopenia was partly correlated with splenomegaly or LT (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Cytopenia is a common finding in hepatitis C patients. Hypersplenism or LT has an adverse impact on some blood cell counts. Lastly, hepatitis C patients present with a wide spectrum of BM findings including malignant neoplasms, which indicates a diagnostic value of BM examination in these patients.
