Abstract
Two new (1, 2) and one known (3) meroterpenoids were isolated from the deep-sea-derived fungus Penicillium allii-sativi. The relative structures of new compounds were determined on the basis of an extensive analysis of the NMR and MS data, and the absolute configurations were established by ECD calculations. Andrastone A (1) is a rare andrastin bearing an unusual cyclopentan-1,3-dione. It shows a selectively antiproliferative effect against HepG2 tumor cells with an IC50 value of 7.8 μM. Mechanism study showed that apoptosis via Caspase and RXRα pathways are responsible for the inhibitory effect.

Abstract
This study was designed to determine whether plasma CXCL12 levels in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) patients are related to disease severity. A total of 91 PMOP females were recruited, and 88 postmenopausal non-osteoporotic (PMNOP) women and 90 healthy females were incorporated as controls. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was utilised to explore bone-mineral density (BMD). The Genant semi-quantitative grading scale was used for vertebral fractures, and plasma CXCL12/SDF-1 levels were investigated by ELISA. Plasma TNF-α and C-telopeptide cross-linked collagen type 1 (CTX-1) were also tested. The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and a visual analogue scale (VAS) were completed in order to assess clinical severity. Plasma CXCL12 levels were considerably elevated in PMOP females compared to PMNOP women and healthy controls. Plasma CXCL12 concentrations were positively correlated with the Genant grading system. We observed significant and negative correlations of plasma CXCL12 levels with lumbar spine, femoral neck and total hip BMD. Moreover, plasma CXCL12 concentrations were positively correlated to VAS and ODI, as well as plasma TNF-α and CTX-1 levels. In conclusion, elevated plasma CXCL12 levels are correlated with disease severity in PMOP females.

Abstract
Aphidicolin, a potent DNA polymerase α inhibitor, has been explored in clinical trials for the treatment of cancer. So far, about 300 modified aphidicolins have been discovered. However, none have shown a stronger effect. Herein, we report 71 new (aphidicolins A1-A71, 1-71) and eight known (72-79) aphidicolin congeners from Botryotinia fuckeliana MCCC 3A00494, a fungus isolated from the western Pacific Ocean (-5572 m). The structures of 1-71 were determined through extensive spectroscopic analysis, X-ray crystallography, chemical derivatization, modified Mosher's method, and the ECD exciton chirality method. Compounds 54-57 and 58-64 are novel 6/6/5/6/5 pentacyclic aphidicolins featuring tetrahydrofuran and dihydrofuran rings, respectively, while compounds 65-71 are rare noraphidicolins. Aphidicolin A8 (8) significantly induced apoptosis in T24 (IC50 = 2.5 μM) and HL-60 (IC50 = 6.1 μM) cancer cells by causing DNA damage. By docking its structure to the human DNA polymerase α binding pocket, 8 was found to form tight intermolecular contacts, elaborating aphidicolin A8 as a potently cytotoxic lead compound.

Abstract
Resveratrol exists widely in plant species and has a variety of anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. However, there have been few reports regarding its anti-food allergic activity. In this study, we demonstrated that resveratrol (isolated from Abies georgei) could decrease the release of β-hexosaminidase and histamine in rat basophilic leukemia-2H3 cells. Resveratrol was not only found to suppress the development of diarrhea, up-regulate the rectal temperature of ovalbumin-allergic mice, and decrease the serum level of specific immunoglobulin E, mouse mast cell protease-1 and histamine, but also found to decrease the population of dendritic cells, B cells and mast cells of ovalbumin -allergic mice in the spleen or mesenteric lymph node. Furthermore, resveratrol inhibited the release of β-hexosaminidase and histamine in bone marrow-derived cells and alleviated mast cell-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reactions. These findings indicated that resveratrol isolated from Abies georgei might have the potential to alleviate food hypersensitivity or allergic disease.

Abstract
AIM To investigate if the serum CC motif ligand 4 (CCL4) levels are linked to disease severity in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP). PATIENTS & METHODS We enrolled 66 PMOP females, 68 postmenopausal nonosteoporotic women and 67 healthy women of childbearing age. Bone mineral densities were assessed with dual x-ray absorptiometry scans. The Oswestry disability index and the visual analog scale were employed to quantify functional ability and severity of symptoms. Serum CCL4 levels were examined with a quantitative sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS We observed a significant negative correlation of CCL4 serum levels with bone mineral density. Furthermore, serum CCL4 concentrations were significantly related to the visual analog scale and Oswestry Disability Index scores. CONCLUSION Serum CCL4 is a potential biomarker to evaluate disease severity in PMOP females.

Abstract
Marine microorganisms are an important source of natural products with potent bioactivities. Unlike the land, the ocean, especially the deep-sea, is characterized by high pressure, high salinity, low nutrition, and no light among others. Therefore, the biodiversity of marine microorganisms is supposed to be very different from that of the terrestrial ones. Yet, many marine microorganisms can find their counterparts in terrestrial environments. To evaluate their differences, a comparative metabolomics investigation was performed on four strains of Nesterenkonia flava isolated from terrestrial and marine environments. As a result, marine strains were clearly distinguished from terrestrial ones on the principal components analysis (PCA) score plot. Furthermore, by partial least squares discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) and univariate analysis, the characteristic metabolites were figured out and found to be involved in osmotic regulation, redox balancing, and energy metabolism. Our results demonstrated that marine actinomycetes could produce novel secondary metabolites different from their terrestrial relatives because they have special metabolic patterns closely related to the unique features of their living environment.

Abstract
T helper (Th)22 and Th17 cells are implicated in the pathogenesis of a number of types of cancer. However, the function of Th22 and Th17 cells in malignant ascites (MA) remains unknown. The present study aimed at examining the distribution, phenotypes, recruitment, and prognostic value of Th22 and Th17 cells in MA from patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A total of 26 patients with HCC with MA and 15 healthy controls were included in the present study. The proportion of Th22 cells, Th17 cells, C-C motif chemokine receptor (CCR)4, CCR6 and CCR10 were examined using flow cytometry. Interleukin (IL-)22, IL-17, C-C motif chemokine ligand (CCL)20, CCL22 and CCL27 were investigated using ELISA. In addition, the chemoattractant activity of chemokines for Th22 and Th17 cells in vitro were examined via a chemotaxis assay. The results of the present study demonstrated that Th22 cells, Th17 cells, IL-22 and IL-17 were significantly increased in MA compared with the corresponding blood and peripheral blood from healthy controls. Additionally, Th22 cells expressed increased concentrations of CCR6, CCR4 and CCR10, and Th17 cells expressed increased concentrations of CCR4 and CCR6 in MA compared with the corresponding blood. The chemotaxis assay revealed that CCL20/CCR6, CCL22/CCR4 and CCL27/CCR10 were responsible for the recruitment of Th22 cells into MA, whereas CCL22/CCR4 was responsible for the recruitment of Th17 cells. Furthermore, the patients with an increased number of Th17 cells exhibited an increased survival time compared with patients with a limited number of Th17 cells. Th22 and Th17 cells serve an important function in the development of MA, and the accumulation of Th22 and Th17 cells in MA may be due to a local increase in proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Increased Th17 cell numbers in MA may indicate the improvement of patient survival.

Abstract
Enduracidin significantly inhibits Gram-positive bacteria and had been widely used in many fields. However, as the poor technology for production of enduracidin and its scarcity, identification of novel strategies for production of enduracidin is important. Our group developed two methods to improve the yield of the production of enduracidin. The yield of enduracidin was increased by three- to fivefold. The highest yields of enduracidin A and enduracidin B achieved were 63.7 and 82.13 mg/ml. Thus, our results might provide a new reference method for the industrial production of enduracidin.

Abstract
Deep-sea-derived butyrolactone I (BTL-I), which was identified as a type of butanolide, was isolated from Aspergillus sp. Ovalbumin (OVA)-induced BALB/c anaphylaxis was established to explore the antifood allergic activity of BTL-I. As a result, BTL-I was able to alleviate OVA-induced allergy symptoms, reduce the levels of histamine and mouse mast cell proteinases, inhibit OVA-specific IgE, and decrease the population of mast cells in the spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes. BTL-I also significantly suppressed mast-dependent passive cutaneous anaphylaxis. Additionally, the maturation of bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMCs) declined as BTL-I caused down-regulation of c-KIT receptors. Furthermore, molecular docking analyses revealed that BTL-I interacted with the inhibitory receptor, FcγRIIB. In conclusion, the reduction of mast cell function by deep-sea-derived BTL-I as well as its interactions with the inhibitory receptor, FcγRIIB, may contribute to BTL-I-related protection against food anaphylaxis.

Abstract
To discover antifood allergic components from deep-sea-derived microorganisms, we performed a systematic chemical investigation of the Atlantic hydrothermal fungus Graphostroma sp. MCCC 3A00421. Consequently, nine new (1-9) and 19 known (10-28) polyketides were isolated. The planar structures of the new compounds were elucidated mainly by detailed analysis of their nuclear magnetic resonance and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry data, while the absolute configurations were established using the modified Mosher's method in association with electronic circular dichroism spectra. Graphostrin A (1) is a novel chlorinated polyketide derivate bearing an oxazole moiety. All isolates were tested for antifood allergic bioactivities in immunoglobulin E-mediated rat basophilic leukemia-2H3 cells. Reticulol (10) significantly decreased the rates of degranulation and histamine release with IC50 values of 13.5 and 13.7 μM, respectively, suggesting reticulol could be a potential antifood allergic medicine.
