Abstract
Here, we compare the molecular mechanism of soybean heterosis through the differential expression of basic cloning. Specifically, we cloned 22 differentially expressed cDNA fragments from hybrid combinations of Jilin 38 x EXP (which had obvious yield advantages) and their parents. In addition, we compared the homology of these fragments and predicted their functions. Cloning differentially expressed genes included the identification of the calmodulin binding protein, 18S ribosomal gene, 26S ribosomal gene, soybean satellite DNA, soybean acid phosphatase, soybean chlorophyll a/b-binding protein II (Cab-6) gene, soybean chloroplast PI 437654 gene, soybean PPR protein gene, and other fragments with unknown functions. In conclusion, the cloning and functional prediction of differentially expressed soybean genes in this study is anticipated to provide valuable information for studies on the molecular mechanism of heterosis.

Abstract
Grass carp reovirus (GCRV) of the genus Aquareovirus and the family Reoviridae causes a severe hemorrhagic disease in grass carp fingerlings in China. GCRV genome is composed of 11 double-stranded RNA segments, of which segment 8 encodes the major core capsid protein VP6. In this study, the VP6 gene following an RT-PCR-amplification from the GCRV 104 strain was cloned into an expression vector pET-32a to obtain pET-32(a)-VP6. The VP6 protein was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 as a fusion protein of 64 kDa. After purification with the HisLink Spin Protein Purification System the VP6 protein was used to raise a specific polyclonal antibody in Balb/c mice. Presence of VP6 protein was proved in bacterial lysates containing VP6 fusion protein by Western blot analysis and in GCRV-infected CIK cells by immunofluorescent staining using polyclonal antibody. These results may be helpful in further studies of interactions between GCRV and cells and in preparation of an engineered vaccine against GCRV.

Abstract
Background: We previously reported that magnetic resonance imaging evidence of cranial nerve invasion was an unfavourable prognostic factor in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, the prognostic value of this evidence in nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy remains unknown. Methods: We retrospectively analysed 749 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who underwent intensity-modulated radiotherapy. Results: Cranial nerve invasion was observed in 299 (39.9%) patients with T3–4 disease. In T3–4 nasopharyngeal carcinoma, magnetic resonance imaging-detected cranial nerve invasion was associated with inferior 5-year overall survival, distant metastasis-free survival, and locoregional relapse-free survival (P=0.002, 0.003, and 0.012, respectively). Multivariate analyses confirmed that cranial nerve invasion was an independent prognostic factor for distant metastasis-free survival (hazard ratio, 1.927; P=0.019) and locoregional relapse-free survival (hazard ratio, 2.605; P=0.032). Furthermore, the receiver-operating characteristic curves verified that the predictive validity of T classifications was significantly improved when combined with magnetic resonance imaging-detected cranial nerve invasion in terms of death, distant metastasis, and locoregional recurrence (P=0.015, 0.021 and 0.008, respectively). Conclusions: Magnetic resonance imaging-detected cranial nerve invasion is an independent adverse prognostic factor in nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Incident vertebral fractures and lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) were assessed in the 12 months following glucocorticoid initiation in 65 children with nephrotic syndrome. The incidence of vertebral fractures was low at 12 months (6 %) and most patients demonstrated recovery in BMD Z-scores by this time point. INTRODUCTION Vertebral fracture (VF) incidence following glucocorticoid (GC) initiation has not been previously reported in pediatric nephrotic syndrome. METHODS VF was assessed on radiographs (Genant method); lumbar spine bone mineral density (LS BMD) was evaluated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. RESULTS Sixty-five children were followed to 12 months post-GC initiation (median age, 5.4 years; range, 2.3-17.9). Three of 54 children with radiographs (6 %; 95 % confidence interval (CI), 2-15 %) had incident VF at 1 year. The mean LS BMD Z-score was below the healthy average at baseline (mean ± standard deviation (SD), -0.5 ± 1.1; p = 0.001) and at 3 months (-0.6 ± 1.1; p < 0.001), but not at 6 months (-0.3 ± 1.3; p = 0.066) or 12 months (-0.3 ± 1.2; p = 0.066). Mixed effect modeling showed a significant increase in LS BMD Z-scores between 3 and 12 months (0.22 SD; 95 % CI, 0.08 to 0.36; p = 0.003). A subgroup (N = 16; 25 %) had LS BMD Z-scores that were ≤-1.0 at 12 months. In these children, each additional 1,000 mg/m(2) of GC received in the first 3 months was associated with a decrease in LS BMD Z-score by 0.39 at 12 months (95 % CI, -0.71 to -0.07; p = 0.017). CONCLUSIONS The incidence of VF at 1 year was low and LS BMD Z-scores improved by 12 months in the majority. Twenty-five percent of children had LS BMD Z-scores ≤-1.0 at 12 months. In these children, LS BMD Z-scores were inversely associated with early GC exposure, despite similar GC exposure compared to the rest of the cohort.

Abstract
We used angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the electronic structure and the Fermi surface of EuFe2As2, EuFe2As1.4P0.6 and EuFe2P2. We observed doubled core level peaks associated with the pnictide atoms. Using K atoms evaporated at the surface to affect the surface quality, we show that one component of these doubled peaks is related to a surface state. Nevertheless, strong electronic dispersion along the c-axis, especially pronounced in EuFe2P2, is observed for at least one band, thus indicating that the Fe states, albeit probably affected at the surface, do not form pure two-dimensional surface states. We determine the evolution of the Fermi surface as a function of the P content and reveal that the hole Fermi surface pockets enlarge with increasing P content. We also show that the spectral weight near the Fermi level of EuFe2P2 is reduced as compared to that of EuFe2As2 and EuFe2As1.4P0.6. Finally, we identify the electronic states associated with the Eu(2+) f states and show an anomalous jump in EuFe2P2.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical value of the individualization therapy for cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP). MATERIALS AND METHODS According to the individual characteristics of the CSP in 61 patients admitted and treated by the People's Hospital of Yuyao City, China between March 2010 and February 2013, methotrexate (MTX) with leucovorin (CF) or uterine artery chemotherapy embolization (UACE) were used to kill the embryos, stanch, and prevent bleeding. Guided by hysteroscopy or B ultrasound, uterine curettage was carried out under the surveillance of laparoscopy if necessary. RESULTS Fifty-four cases of patients were treated by UACE. MTX with CF was used,in seven cases. Uterine curettage was performed in 44 cases under the guidance of hysteroscopy. Six cases were under the surveillance of the B ul- trasound and both hysteroscopic guidance and B ultrasound surveillance were used in seven cases. The lesions disappeared in two cases after transabdominal excision and two cases after UACE. All of the 61 patients were cured without hysterectomy. CONCLUSION Selection of individualization treatment programs according to the characteristics of the disease could improve the efficacy and prognosis of patients with CSP. The appropriate timing to perform curettage was five to seven days after embryo killing in order to reduce bleeding and shorten the course of the disease.

Abstract
China is the biggest sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) producer in the world and its total production is about 100 million tons per year. Surveys for diseases of sweet potato in storage were conducted from 2011 to 2013 in Hebei Province, China. The storage roots from cultivars such as Yizi 138 and Beijing 553 developed lesions on their surface during storage. Typical lesions consisted of alternating light and dark brown concentric rings that were darker than the root surface. The size of the lesions was 49 × 63 mm (11 to 75 × 36 to 80 mm, n = 20) on average. The lesion spot was slightly concave. Cutting the diseased roots revealed the lesions could extend into the center of the roots, often with cavities. It smelled bitter within the necrotic tissues and was dark brown or black. The disease incidence was about 10 to 20%. A Fusarium species was consistently isolated from the diseased roots (n = 20). Mycelial plugs from a pure culture of the pathogen on potato dextrose agar were placed on the surface of disinfected sweet potato roots incubated at 25°C with 80 to 90% relative humidity and uninoculated roots were used as control. The same symptom was observed after 14 days on all roots (n = 20) inoculated with the pathogen. The same Fusarium species was consistently reisolated from all lesions. The pathogen was cultured on carnation leaf agar (CLA) for 10 days at 25°C with a 12-h photoperiod. The fungus produced two types of spores on CLA: microconidia were thin-walled, hyaline, fusiform to ovoid, generally 1- or 2-celled, and 3.1 to 9.4 × 1.3 to 2.9 μm (n = 20); macroconidia were slightly curved with blunt and rounded apical cell and notched basal cells, mostly 4- to 8-celled, and 13.3 to 36.5 × 2.3 to 3.8 μm (n = 40). On the basis of morphological characteristics, the fungal isolates were identified as Fusarium solani (Mart.) Appel & Wollenw. emend. Snyd. & Hans. (1). The genomic DNA of the pathogen cultured in potato dextrose broth for 3 days at 25°C was extracted with the CTAB method. The ITS-rDNA sequence, a fragment of the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (EF-1α) gene sequence, and the beta tubulin gene sequence was amplified using the paired primers ITS1F/ITS4(CTTGGTCATTTAGAGGAAGTAA/TCCTCCGCTTATTGA TATGC), EF-1/EF-2 (ATGGGTAAGGARGACAAGAC/GGARGTACCAGTSATCATGTT) and Bt-1/Bt-2(AACATGCGTGAGATTGTAAGT/TCTGGATGTTGTTGGGAATCC), respectively. Those sequence showed 97% homology with ITS sequence of F. solani (GenBank Accession No. AF178407), 99% homology with EF-1α sequence of F. solani (JX945169, DQ247593, and DQ247354), and 98% homology with beta tubulin gene sequence of F. solani (AB553621), respectively. The new sequences of ITS-rDNA, EF-1α, and beta tubulin were deposited in GenBank (KF255997, KF255995, and KF255996). The pathogen was identified as F. solani based on its morphological and molecular characteristics. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. solani-induced fusarium root rot and stem canker on sweet potato storage roots in China. Abstract
MSH-PE38KDEL is a chimeric molecule composed of MSH, and fused to a truncated mutant form of Pseudomonas exotoxin (PE38KDEL). Our study aims to evaluate the specific cytotoxicity of recombinant immunotoxin MSH-PE38KDEL on melanoma cells A875 and B16 in vitro, as well as its inhibition of metastatic melanoma in vivo. MSH-PE38KDEL was expressed in Escherichia coli, and greater than 90% purity was obtained. The purified MSH-PE38KDEL was found to be selectively cytotoxic to MSH receptor-positive melanoma cells in vitro. The specific cytotoxicity of recombinant MSH-PE38KDEL to A875 and B16 was over 85% by cell viability assay; however, MSH-PE38KDEL had no cytotoxicity to the human 2BS cells. The anti-tumor activity of MSH-PE38KDEL was evaluated in mice with induced melanoma through intra-tumor or intravenous administration. The results showed that 90% melanoma growths were inhibited, and 40% of the tumors were disappeared completely. Histopathology results showed MSH-PE38KDEL can effectively inhibit intrahepatic metastasis. In conclusion, MSH-PE38KDEL had cytotoxic effects on MSH receptor-positive melanoma cells, and causes significant tumor growth inhibition. These results support a possible new approach for the treatment of melanoma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Tacrolimus is a potent immunosuppressive agent mainly used for allogeneic solid organ transplantation. Although usage of tacrolimus led to a significant increase in short-term allograft survival, the long-term morbidity remains high. Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is reported to be associated with increased vascular resistance, CNI-induced nephrotoxicity and chronic rejection. MATERIALS AND METHODS In the present study, we first detected the serum and renal ET-1 level of rats treated by tacrolimus and found strong positive correlations were existed between the ET-1 level and the tacrolimus dosage and treated time. Furthermore, we studied the protective effect of ambrisentan in liver transplantation rats when co-administrated with tacrolimus. Healthy inbred male Wistar and Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used in this study. The post-operative general condition, transplantation survival time, hepatic aminotransferase, serum IFN-γ and level kidney injury biochemical index were recorded and compared to evaluate the immune response and outcomes in the recipient rats after liver transplantation. RESULTS Our results indicate that ambrisentan prevents the changes of ET-1 content in rats of non-operative treatment group and reduced the nephrotoxicity in the rats with liver transplantation. Rats from ambrisentan co-administration group exhibited good postoperative condition and prolonged survival. CONCLUSIONS Ambrisentan reverted some effects induced by tacrolimus in the kidney and indicated a positive potential for therapeutic benefit.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study was designed to compare the effects of metformin and repaglinide on the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes in China. METHODS A total of 107 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients (46 women and 61 men) participated in the study. All patients received 3-month treatment of metformin or repaglinide. Fasting blood glucose and HbA1c were determined at baseline and at the end of the 3-month of treatment. RESULTS FPG and HbA1c decreased in both metformin and repaglinide groups after 3 months treatment (P < 0.01). The reduction of HbA1c was significantly greater in the repaglinide group (P < 0.01). Metformin decreases fasting insulin concentration and HOMA-IR (P < 0.01), and repaglinide improves HOMA-β(P < 0.01). Triglycerides (TG) were reduced in both groups (P < 0.01 in metformin group; P < 0.05 in repaglinide group), but total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were decreased only after metformin treatment (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Both repaglinide and metformin were effective in glycaemic control in new onset patients with type 2 diabetes in China. Repaglinide had no effect on insulin sensitivity, but it improved β-cell function.

Abstract
Cyclin D1 (CCND1) plays a significant role in G1-S transition of cell cycle, and phosphatase and a tensin homologue (PTEN) negatively regulate cell cycle through phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT signaling. CCND1 and PTEN genetic polymorphisms might induce susceptibility to the occurrence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Three hundred and four ESCC patients and 413 healthy controls from Anyang, China, were enrolled in this study. All genotyping at CCND1 (807 G/A) and PTEN (rs701848 T/C and rs2735343 C/G) were identified by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) assay. Unconditional logistic regression model was used to analyze the correlation between the polymorphisms and the susceptibility to develop ESCC. Statistically significant differences were observed between cases and controls in distribution of genotypes or alleles at PTEN rs701848 T/C and rs2735343 C/G, with either haplotype TG or CG possessing notably higher proportion in cases than in the controls. However, such difference could not be found in the distribution of the polymorphisms at CCND1 807 G/A. In summary, the polymorphisms of PTEN rs701848 T/C and rs2735343 C/G might represent crucial modifying factors for development of ESCC.

Abstract
Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum durum; 2n = 4x = 28; genome AABB) has long been an important food resource for human diets. The projected increase of the world's population to 9.1 billion by 2050 has highlighted the importance and urgency for improving the yield and quality performance of durum wheat. A backcrossed population, which was derived from the durum wheat variety 'Bellaroi' (recurrent parent) and the hexaploid genotype 'CSCR6' (donor parent), was used to investigate the feasibility of improving yield- and quality-related traits of durum wheat by introgressing chromosome fragments from hexaploid wheat. The population means for grain protein content, gluten content, spike length, and spikelet number were improved compared with those of the recurrent parent 'Bellaroi'. A small proportion of the backcross population lines showed significant improvements in spike length and spikelet number compared with the recurrent parent 'Bellaroi'. Some loci with significant effects for plant height, spike length, spikelet number, and thousand-grain weight were identified. Several of these loci affected more than one trait. These results showed that the introgression of chromosome fragments from 'CSCR6' into the durum genetic background could be an effective method for improving yield and quality traits of durum wheat. In addition, the loci showing significant effects on desired traits in this study could be fine mapped using an F2 population obtained by backcrossing the lines that carry the positive allele(s) with the recurrent parent.

Abstract
We investigated the relationships between paraoxonase genetic polymorphisms and essential hypertension in carotid artery atherosclerotic patients. The study included 353 Han participants and 240 Uighur participants from Xinjiang; they were further divided into two groups: essential hypertension with carotid artery atherosclerosis (CAAD group) and essential hypertension without carotid artery atherosclerosis (control group). Genotypes were detected by PCR, followed by restriction analyses with specific endonucleases. In Han people, the M allele frequency was significantly higher in the CAAD group than in the control group. The CC/CS genotype and C allele frequencies were significantly higher in the CAAD group than in the control group. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that PON1 55M allele [odds ratio (OR) = 1.889] and PON2 311C allele (OR = 1.692) are independent risk factors for CAAD. Combined genotype analysis showed that PON1 55M and PON2 311C alleles are independent risk factors for CAAD (OR = 1.428). In the Uighur population, the CC/ CS genotype and C allele frequencies were significantly higher in the CAAD group than in the control group. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the PON2 311C allele is an independent risk factor for CAAD. We conclude that the PON1 55M and PON2 311C alleles are independent risk factors for CAAD in essential hypertension patients from the Xinjiang Han population. We also conclude that the PON2 311C allele is a risk factor for CAAD in essential hypertension patients from the Xinjiang Uighur population.

Abstract
Osteoblast differentiation is a pivotal event in bone formation. Runt-related transcription factor-2 (Runx2) is an essential factor required for osteoblast differentiation and bone formation. However, the underlying mechanism of Runx2-regulated osteogenic differentiation is still unclear. Here, we explored the corresponding mechanism using the C2C12/Runx2(Dox) subline, which expresses Runx2 in response to doxycycline (Dox). We found that Runx2-induced osteogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells results in a sustained decrease in the expression of heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF), a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family. Forced expression of HB-EGF or treatment with HB-EGF is capable of reducing the expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), a defined marker of early osteoblast differentiation. HB-EGF-mediated inhibition of ALP depends upon activation of the EGFR and the downstream extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways as well as phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt pathway. Runx2 specifically binds to the Hbegf promoter, suggesting that Hbegf transcription is directly inhibited by Runx2. Runx2 can upregulate miR-1192, which enhances Runx2-induced osteogenic differentiation. Moreover, miR-1192 directly targets Hbegf through translational inhibition, suggesting enhancement of Runx2-induced osteogenic differentiation by miR-1192 through the downregulation of HB-EGF. Taken together, our results suggest that Runx2 induces osteogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells by inactivating HB-EGF-EGFR signaling through the downregulation of HB-EGF via both transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms.

Abstract
A cell-in-cell process refers to the invasion of one living cell into another homotypic or heterotypic cell. Different from non-apoptotic death processes of internalized cells termed entosis or cannibalism, we previously reported an apoptotic cell-in-cell death occurring during heterotypic cell-in-cell formation. In this study, we further demonstrated that the apoptotic cell-in-cell death occurred only in internalized immune killer cells expressing granzyme B (GzmB). Vacuole wrapping around the internalized cells inside the target cells was the common hallmark during the early stage of all cell-in-cell processes, which resulted in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and subsequent mitochondrial injury of encapsulated killer or non-cytotoxic immune cells. However, internalized killer cells mediated rapid bubbling of the vacuoles with the subsequent degranulation of GzmB inside the vacuole of the target cells and underwent the reuptake of GzmB by killer cells themselves. The confinement of GzmB inside the vacuole surpassed the lysosome-mediated cell death occurring in heterotypic or homotypic entosis processes, resulting in a GzmB-triggered caspase-dependent apoptotic cell-in-cell death of internalized killer cells. On the contrary, internalized killer cells from GzmB-deficient mice underwent a typical non-apoptotic entotic cell-in-cell death similar to that of non-cytotoxic immune cells or tumor cells. Our results thus demonstrated the critical involvement of immune cells with cytotoxic property in apoptotic cell-in-cell death, which we termed as emperitosis taken from emperipolesis and apoptosis. Whereas entosis or cannibalism may serve as a feed-on mechanism to exacerbate and nourish tumor cells, emperitosis of immune killer cells inside tumor cells may serve as an in-cell danger sensation model to prevent the killing of target cells from inside, implying a unique mechanism for tumor cells to escape from immune surveillance.

Abstract
The International Network for Food and Obesity/non-communicable diseases Research, Monitoring and Action Support (INFORMAS) proposes to collect performance indicators on food policies, actions and environments related to obesity and non-communicable diseases. This paper reviews existing communications strategies used for performance indicators and proposes the approach to be taken for INFORMAS. Twenty-seven scoring and rating tools were identified in various fields of public health including alcohol, tobacco, physical activity, infant feeding and food environments. These were compared based on the types of indicators used and how they were quantified, scoring methods, presentation and the communication and reporting strategies used. There are several implications of these analyses for INFORMAS: the ratings/benchmarking approach is very commonly used, presumably because it is an effective way to communicate progress and stimulate action, although this has not been formally evaluated; the tools used must be trustworthy, pragmatic and policy-relevant; multiple channels of communication will be needed; communications need to be tailored and targeted to decision-makers; data and methods should be freely accessible. The proposed communications strategy for INFORMAS has been built around these lessons to ensure that INFORMAS's outputs have the greatest chance of being used to improve food environments.

Abstract
Food labelling on food packaging has the potential to have both positive and negative effects on diets. Monitoring different aspects of food labelling would help to identify priority policy options to help people make healthier food choices. A taxonomy of the elements of health-related food labelling is proposed. A systematic review of studies that assessed the nature and extent of health-related food labelling has been conducted to identify approaches to monitoring food labelling. A step-wise approach has been developed for independently assessing the nature and extent of health-related food labelling in different countries and over time. Procedures for sampling the food supply, and collecting and analysing data are proposed, as well as quantifiable measurement indicators and benchmarks for health-related food labelling.
