Abstract
First observations of the B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) π+, B(s)(0) → D(s)(-) ρ+ and B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+ decays are reported together with measurements of their branching fractions: B(B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) π+) = [2.4(-0.4)(+0.5)(stat) ± 0.3(syst) ± 0.4(f(s))]×10(-3), B(B(s)(0) → D(s)(-) ρ+) = [8.5(-1.2)(+1.3)(stat) ± 1.1(syst) ± 1.3(f(s))]×10(-3) and B(B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+) = [11.9(-2.0)(+2.2)(stat) ± 1.7(syst) ± 1.8(f(s))]×10(-3) (f(s) = N(B(s)(*) B(s)(*))/N(bb)). From helicity-angle distributions, we measured the longitudinal polarization fraction in B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+ decays to be f(L)(B(s)(0) → D(s)(*-) ρ+) = 1.05(-0.10)(+0.08)(stat)(-0.04)(+0.03)(syst). These results are based on a 23.6 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider.

Abstract
We undertook a study in which 138 female patients with a mean age of 71.2 years (51 to 82) received a standard NexGen CR-flex prosthesis in one knee and a gender-specific NexGen CR-flex prosthesis in the other. The mean follow-up period was 3.25 years (3.1 to 3.5). The aspect ratios of the standard and gender-specific prostheses were compared with that of the distal femur. The mean post-operative Knee Society knee scores were 94 (70 to 100) and 93 (70 to 100) points and the function scores were 83 (60 to 100) and 84 (60 to 100) points for the standard implants and the gender-specific designs, respectively. The mean post-operative Western Ontario and McMaster Universities score was 26.4 points (0 to 76). Patient satisfaction, the radiological results and the complication rates were similar in the two groups. In those with a standard prosthesis, the femoral component was closely matched in 80 knees (58.0%), overhung in 14 (10.1%) and undercovered the bone in 44 (31.9%). In those with a gender-specific prosthesis, it was closely matched in 15 knees (10.9%) and undercovered the bone in 123 (89.1%). Since we found no significant differences between the two groups with regard to the clinical and radiological results, patient satisfaction or complication rate, the goal of the design of the gender-specific CR-flex prosthesis to improve the outcome was not achieved in our patients.

Abstract
p53 is frequently mutated by genetic alternation or suppressed by various kinds of cellular signaling pathways in human cancers. Recently, we have revealed that p53 is suppressed and eliminated from cells by direct binding with oncogenic K-Ras-induced Snail. On the basis of the fact, we generated specific inhibitors against p53-Snail binding (GN25 and GN29). These chemicals can induce p53 expression and functions in K-Ras-mutated cells. However, it does not show cytotoxic effect on normal cells or K-Ras-wild-type cells. Moreover, GN25 can selectively activate wild-type p53 in p53(WT/MT) cancer cells. But single allelic mt p53 containing cell line, Panc-1, does not respond to our chemical. In vivo xenograft test also supports the antitumor effect of GN25 in K-Ras-mutated cell lines. These results suggest that our compounds are strong candidate for anticancer drug against K-Ras-initiated human cancers including pancreatic and lung cancers.

Abstract
Silicon (Si) is known to have a role in constitutive plant defence against arthropod pests, and recent work has illustrated involvement in induced plant defences. The present tri-trophic study tested the hypothesis that Si increases natural enemy attraction to pest-infested plants and improves biological control. Cucumber plants treated with potassium silicate (Si+) and untreated control plants (Si-) were maintained in separately vented glasshouse compartments. Y-tube olfactometer studies showed that adult Dicranolaius bellulus were significantly more attracted to Si+ plants upon which Helicoverpa armigera larvae had fed compared with Si-, pest-infested plants. Predators were not significantly more attracted to Si+ plants when comparing uninfested cucumbers. In a field experiment, we placed H. armigera-infested and uninfested Si+ and Si- cucumber plants in a lucerne stand. Removal rates of H. armigera egg baits showed predation was greater for Si+ infested plants than for other treatments. Results suggest that Si applied to plants with a subsequent pest infestation increases the plants' attractiveness to natural enemies; an effect that was reflected in elevated biological control in the field.

Abstract
We have searched for CP violation in the charmed meson decays D((s))(+) --> K(S)(0)pi(+) and D((s))(+) --> K(S)(0)K(+) using 673 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. No evidence for CP violation is observed. We report the most sensitive CP asymmetry measurements to date for these decays: A(CP)(D(+)-->K(S)(0)pi(+)) = (-0.71 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.20)%, A(CP)(D(s)(+) --> K(S)(0)pi(+)) = (+5.45 +/- 2.50 +/- 0.33)%, A(CP)(D(+) --> K(S)(0)K(+)) = (-0.16 +/- 0.58 +/- 0.25)%, and A(CP)(D(s)(+) --> K(S)(0)K(+)) = (+0.12 +/- 0.36 +/- 0.22)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To validate maternal recognition of neonatal illnesses at home compared to assessment by community health workers (CHWs) during routine household surveillance for neonatal illness in rural Bangladesh. METHODS Surveillance in the intervention arm of two cluster-randomized, controlled trials of newborn interventions conducted in Sylhet and Mirzapur districts of Bangladesh. CHWs promoted birth and newborn care preparedness during two prenatal visits, including recognition of neonatal illnesses. CHWs assessed 8472 neonates on post-natal days 0, 3, and 6 between 2004 and 2005 in Sylhet, and 7587 neonates on post-natal days 0, 2, 5, and 8 between 2004 and 2006 in Mirzapur. In both sites, CHW identified neonates with very severe disease (VSD), using clinical algorithms that included ascertainment of illness history reported by mother and observation of clinical signs of illness. We calculated sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of maternal report of any illness sign compared to CHWs' assessments and classification of VSD. Analysis was restricted to mothers whose neonates were assessed by CHWs at home during the routine visit schedule. RESULTS Maternal report of any signs had sensitivity of 24% and 20% and positive predictive value of 45% and 54% in Sylhet and Mirzapur, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Maternal recognition of neonatal illnesses at home was poor in two rural areas in Bangladesh. Interventions need to be designed to improve maternal recognition, and routine post-natal assessment by CHWs at home may be an essential component of community-based newborn care to improve care-seeking for newborn illness.

Abstract
The process gammagamma-->phiJ/psi is measured using a data sample of 825 fb{-1} collected with the Belle detector. A narrow peak of 8.8{-3.2}{+4.2} events, with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations including systematic uncertainty, is observed. The mass and natural width of the structure [named X(4350)] are measured to be [4350.6{-5.1}{+4.6}(stat)+/-0.7(syst)] MeV/c{2} and [13{-9}{+18}(stat)+/-4(syst)] MeV, respectively. The product of its two-photon decay width and branching fraction to phiJ/psi is [6.7{-2.4}{+3.2}(stat)+/-1.1(syst)] eV for J{P}=0{+}, or [1.5{-0.6}{+0.7}(stat)+/-0.3(syst)] eV for J{P}=2{+}. No signal for the Y(4140)-->phiJ/psi structure reported by the CDF Collaboration in B-->K{+}phiJ/psi decays is observed, and limits of Gamma_{gammagamma}(Y(4140))B(Y(4140)-->phiJ/psi)<41 eV for J{P}=0;{+} or <6.0 eV for J{P}=2{+} are determined at the 90% C.L. This disfavors the scenario in which the Y(4140) is a D{s}{*+}D{s}{*-} molecule.

Abstract
Thirteen matched pairs of cadaveric femurs were placed into two groups. In each group, a transverse fracture was created at a point 70% distal between the lesser trochanter and the adductor tubercle. One femur out of each matched pair was then stabilised with an interlocking intramedullary nail (nail only group) and the other femur was stabilised with plate augmentation after interlocking intramedullary nailing (plate augmentation group). The bending load to promote 5-mm displacement showed statistically significant differences between the plate augmentation group (mean 843.36 ± 409.13 N) and the nail only group (mean 315.02 ± 219.80 N) (p = 0.001). Torsional torque at the angle of 15 degrees showed statistically significant differences between the two groups; a mean of 2.09 ± 0.53 N·m for the plate augmentation group and a mean of 0.63 ± 0.46 N·m for the nail only group (p = 0.0001). We found a 2.6-fold increase in bending stiffness and a 3.3-fold increase in torsional stiffness in plate augmentation leaving a nail in situ compared to interlocking nailing only in the distal third fracture of femur.

Abstract
We report the results of a search for a charmoniumlike state produced in the process gammagamma-->omegaJ/psi in the 3.9-4.2 GeV/c{2} mass region. We observe a significant enhancement, which is well described by a resonant shape with mass M=(3915+/-3+/-2) MeV/c{2} and total width Gamma=(17+/-10+/-3) MeV. This enhancement may be related to one or more of the three charmoniumlike states so far reported in the 3.90-3.95 GeV/c{2} mass region.

Abstract
AIMS Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is known as a disease of the renal glomerular epithelial cells (podocytes). Recent advances in podocyte biology showed that podocytopathy is the culprit of nephrotic syndrome. To obtain comprehensive information about the response of podocytes to injury, we investigated the gene expression profile of podocytes in response to puromycin aminonucleoside (PAN)-induced injury. METHODS Differentiated mouse podocyte cell line (MPC5) cells were treated with 25 microg/ml PAN for 24, 48, or 72 h. Gene expression profiles of these cells were analyzed. Real time PCR analysis was used to confirm the findings of microarray. RESULTS Expression levels of 23 genes (differentially expressed genes, DEGs), including laminin alpha(1) and MMP3, were significantly different between PAN-treated podocytes and untreated cells. Gene ontology of DEGs indicated that their functional categories were cell adhesion, extracellular matrix (ECM) formation, and ECM degradation. Real-time PCR and indirect immunohistochemistry of PAN-treated and untreated podocytes confirmed the differential expression of DEGs. CONCLUSION Using unbiased global gene expression profiling, we found that podocytes respond to PAN-induced injury by down-regulating the expression of genes involved in cell adhesion and extracellular matrix.
