Abstract
UNLABELLED The purpose of this research was to examine if the IL1B gene polymorphism has impact on the risk of steroid-induced ONFH in Chinese population. We found that IL1B rs1143630 decreased the SANFH's risk and IL1B rs2853550 increased the risk of steroid-induced ONFH. So, we guess that IL1B gene influences the genetic susceptibility of steroid-induced ONFH. INTRODUCTION Genetic polymorphisms in IL1B gene could be related in the pathogenesis of osteonecrosis. Discusses on the relationship between the IL1B gene and steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (steroid-induced ONFH) is still less in Chinese Han population. So, in this research, we want to examine whether the IL1B gene polymorphism has impact on the risk of steroid-induced ONFH in Chinese population. METHODS A total of 286 steroid-induced ONFH patients and 441 controls were recruited, and seven SNPs (rs2853550, rs1143643, rs3136558, rs1143630, rs1143627, rs16944, and rs1143623) in IL1B gene were selected; unconditional logistic regression analysis was used to research the influence on the risk of steroid-induced ONFH. Functional annotations of IL1B variants were performed by RegulomeDB and HaploReg. RESULTS rs1143630 (A>C) in the IL1B gene decreased the risk of steroid-induced ONFH in the allele model (OR = 0.69, 95%CI 0.51-0.93, p = 0.014). Further genetic model analyses found that IL1B rs2853550 AG genotype increased the risk of steroid-induced ONFH compared with the people who are carriers of the IL1B rs2853550 GG genotype (OR = 1.69, 95%CI 1.16-2.46, p = 0.012). In the dominant model, IL1B rs1143630 GG-GT genotype decreased the risk of steroid-induced ONFH (OR = 0.62, 95%CI 0.44-0.87, p = 0.0051). And further haplotype analysis was performed, while the result was not significant. Using RegulomeDB and HaploReg, rs2853550 is likely to affect TF binding, any motif and DNase peak. CONCLUSIONS We guess that IL1B gene influences the genetic susceptibility of steroid-induced ONFH.

Abstract
Objective: To study serum HCV antibody (anti-HCV) with geographic distribution characteristics in Zhejiang Province. Methods: A stratified random cluster sampling method was used. Serum samples of the surveyed population were collected from selected hospitals, anti-HCV antibodies were examined, then hepatitis C infection rates among different genders, regions and age groups were analyzed. The anti-HCV rate was compared using the χ (2) test. Results: The average anti-HCV positive rate in Zhejiang Province was 0.24% [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.16% ~ 0.32%]. The antibody positive rate in the plain area was 0.32% (95% CI: 0.19% ~ 0.45%), which was significantly higher than the coastal islands 0.05%(95% CI: 0.00% ~ 0.12%, χ (2) = 7.638, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between plain area and hilly area 0.22% (95% CI: 0.03% - 0.41%). There was no statistically significant difference in anti-HCV positive rates between males and females (χ (2) = 2.238, P = 0.135). The highest positive rate of anti-HCV (0.93%) was in the population aged 56-60 years and the lowest in the population aged less than 20 years. Anti-HCV positive rate of all age groups in 2017 was lower than that of 2006 seroepidemiological study of hepatitis C. Conclusion: Zhejiang Province is a region with low anti-HCV positive rate and the disease prevalence further reduced than 10 years ago. The positive rate of anti-HCV in plain areas is higher than islands. Middle-aged and elderly people are the age group with high prevalence, and the anti-HCV positive rate in people under 20 years old is exceptionally low. Gender differences in anti-HCV positive rate have little effect.

Abstract
In this work, we report a drug delivery system based on the pH-responsive self-assembly and -disassembly behaviors of peptides. Here, a systematically designed histidine-rich lipidated peptide (NP1) is presented to encapsulate and deliver an anticancer drug ellipticine (EPT) into two model cells: non-small-cell lung carcinoma and Chinese hamster ovary cells. The mechanism of pH-responsive peptide self-assembly and -disassembly involved in the drug encapsulation and release process are extensively investigated. We found that NP1 could self-assemble as a spherical nanocomplex (diameter = 34.43 nm) in a neutral pH environment with EPT encapsulated and positively charged arginine amino acids aligned outward and EPT is released in an acidic environment due to the pH-triggered disassembly. Furthermore, the EPT-encapsulating peptide could achieve a mass loading ability of 18% (mass of loaded-EPT/mass of NP1) with optimization. More importantly, it is revealed that the positively charged arginine on the periphery of the NP1 peptides could greatly facilitate their direct translocation through the negatively charged plasma membrane via electrostatic interaction, instead of via endocytosis, which provides a more efficient uptake pathway.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the seasonal distribution of patient hospitalization due to asthma exacerbation in 7 geographic areas in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout 7 geographic areas in the mainland of China (northeast, north, central, east, south, northwest and southwest). The numbers of asthmatic patients and total inpatients of the respiratory department of each hospital were recorded. The monthly ratio of asthmatic patients to the total inpatients in every area was calculated and compared. Results: During the study period, 6 480 patients were admitted for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% of all the 206 135 patients admitted to the respiratory departments in the 29 hospitals. The ratio of asthmatic patients to total inpatients in the northeast area (5.61%) was highest, and the ratio in east area was lowest (1.97%). Statistical analysis showed that the difference among different areas was significant (P<0.000 1). In most areas, both the number and proportion of hospitalized asthmatic patients peaked in spring (February-April) and autumn (September-October). In the northeast area, east area and south area, the peaks in spring were more obvious, while in the north area and southwest area, the peaks in autumn were more obvious. In the northwest area the peaks occurred in winter (December-January) and summer (June-August), respectively. The differences in hospitalization due to asthma among different months were significant in the northeast, north, and southwest areas (P<0.005). Conclusion: The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation fluctuated with season in different areas in China. In most areas, more asthmatic patients were admitted to hospitals in spring and autumn.

Methods: This was a retrospective study which involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout mainland China during 2013-2014. The number of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in each hospital was calculated, as well as the ratio of asthmatic patients to all the hospitalized patients. The analysis by month was conducted. The number and ratio of asthmatic patients in the northern and southern cities were calculated respectively. Results: During the study period, there were 6 480 patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation, accounting for 3.14% (6 480/206 135) of all the hospitalized patients of the respiratory department in 29 hospitals. The analysis by month showed that the ratio of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was highest in March (3.49%), then declined from April to June, then rose again from July, reaching a second peak at September (3.28%), and then declined again from October to December. The ratio of asthmatic patients in every month was higher in northern cities than in southern cities. Conclusions: The ratio of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China fluctuates with the changes of seasons, and March and September are the two peak months. Northern cities have a higher ratio of asthmatic patients than southern cities.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate warning symptoms of asthma attack and evaluate asthma self-management status of asthma patients in urban China. Methods: A multi-center, cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was carried out from 30 general hospitals dispersed in 30 provinces of mainland China (except for Tibet) during Oct 2015 to May 2016. Information of frequency and warning symptoms of asthma attack, the time from warning symptoms to asthma attack, the impact of asthma attack and asthma self-management were collected from asthma patients of outpatient department. Results: Altogether 3 875 asthmatic outpatients were recruited. 78.1% (3 026/3 875) of the patients reported restriction of exercise and daily activities during asthma exacerbation. 82.5% (3 160/3 829) of the patients had warning symptoms before asthma attack, the most common warning symptoms were cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath. The median time from warning symptoms to asthma attack was 2 h, the mean time was 90 h. Only 4.4% (167/3 829) of the patients had definite confidence to control asthma when symptoms deteriorated. 76.7% (2 937/3 828) of the patients used medications to control asthma when asthma symptoms deteriorated. Medication choice: inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) + formoterol 45.8% (1 776/3 875), short-acting beta-agonist (SABA) 23.9% (927/3 875). Conclusions: Most asthma patients have warning symptoms before asthma attack, the most common symptoms are cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath. The proportion of patients conducting effective asthma self-management remains low.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: CIPN is a common, painful, and debilitating side effect of many standard chemotherapy regimens. Patients with CIPN typically experience paresthesia (tingling, numbness), pain, and muscle weakness, and may exhibit significant functional decline and diminished quality of life. Our prior study showed that more than half of breast cancer survivors experience persistent CIPN up to a mean duration of 5.6 years and that this symptom is associated with a doubled fall risk. There is an urgent need to identify nonpharmacological approaches to reduce CIPN symptoms and improve cancer survivors' functional outcomes. Yoga is a mind-body modality that includes stretching, flexibility, and balance training; however, little is known about its effects on symptoms and functional outcomes among cancer survivors with CIPN.
Trial Design: We are conducting a two-arm pilot randomized usual care controlled trial in breast and gynecological cancer survivors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), New York, NY. Eligible subjects in the intervention arm receive one-hour Hatha Yoga classes taught twice weekly for eight weeks, and practice home-based yoga for a total of 12 weeks. Subjects in the wait list control (WLC) arm continue usual care for 12 weeks, followed by eight weeks of yoga classes and home-based yoga.
Eligibility Criteria: 1) Patients with a primary diagnosis of stage I-III breast, ovarian, uterine, or endometrial cancer; 2) moderate to severe CIPN, defined by four or greater on a 0–10 Numeric Rating Scale (NRS); 3) completion of neurotoxic chemotherapy at least three months prior; 4) no changes in anti-neuropathy medications within three months of enrollment; and 5) an ECOG performance status of 0–2.
Specific Aims: The primary endpoint is safety, feasibility, and NRS changes at eight weeks (end of treatment). The secondary endpoints include the Neuropathic Pain Scale (NPS) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group-Neurotoxicity (FACT/GOG-Ntx) at eight, 12, and 20 weeks.
Statistical Methods: We will accrue 40 patients to get 36 patients evaluable for the primary endpoint at eight weeks. Using an ANCOVA analysis with a sample size of 36, we will be able to detect an effect size of 00.58 standard deviations (SD) of NRS (moderate effect size) between yoga and WLC assuming a NRS correlation between pre- and post-yoga of 0.5 SD. If we assume a 10% dropout rate based on our recently completed trial, we will need to recruit 20 subjects per arm (total of 40) to fall within the precision noted in the sample size calculation. We recognize that the sample size calculation was based on detecting a moderate effect between yoga and WLC and may miss small but clinically meaningful effects that can be used to design a future trial that is sufficiently powered.
Present accrual and target accrual: 40 participants. We have accrued 25 participants as of June 2018 and anticipate accrual completion by October 2018.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common, potentially debilitating, and dose-limiting side effect experienced by breast cancer survivors. CIPN encompasses symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling, which can be measured subjectively by patient-reported outcomes (PRO), or objectively by quantitative sensory testing (QST); however, little is known how QST correlates with symptom profiles measured by PRO.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using baseline data of two ongoing clinical trials of breast cancer survivors who experienced moderate to severe CIPN defined by pain, numbness, or tingling ratings of four or greater on a numeric rating scale (NRS) after chemotherapy completion for at least three months. PRO measures of CIPN symptoms included Neuropathic Pain Scale (NPS) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Gynecologic Oncology Group/Neurotoxicity subscale (FACT/GOG-Ntx). QST included tactile threshold (TT) measured by Von Frey's filaments, and vibration threshold (VT) measured by biothesiometer. We ran a Spearman correlation to assess the relationship between the subjective measures (NPS and FACT/GOG-Ntx) and objective measures (TT and VT QST).
Results: We included 52 sets of baseline data on 50 unique patients; two patients were enrolled in both trials at different times. Mean age was 61 years (SD 10) and 66% were white. The mean NRS pain score was 3.9 (SD 2.8), numbness 5.7 (SD 2.2), and tingling 4.3 (SD 2.8) on a 0-10 scale. The mean NPS total score was 39.2 (SD 23.1) on a 0-100 scale, and FACT/GOG-Ntx was 26.2 (SD 6.8) on a 0-44 scale. High scores on NRS and NPS and low scores on FACT/GOG-Ntx signify more severe CIPN symptoms. See Table 1 for a summary of the correlation between two questions on FACT/GOG-Ntx on tingling/numbness in hands and feet, and NPS total score with QST. A moderate correlation was observed between FACT/GOG-Ntx and QST results, suggesting patient-reported hand and foot numbness or tingling is associated with decreased hand and foot tactile and vibration perception. NPS was positively correlated with tactile perception for the hand and foot, but not with vibration perception.
Table 1.Correlation between objective and subjective measures of CIPN Tactile QSTVibration QST HandFeetHandFeetFACT/GOG-Ntx-0.33 (P=0.018)-0.28 (P=0.045)-0.37 (P=0.008)-0.40 (P=0.0034)NPS0.34 (P=0.015)0.32 (P=0.022)0.22 (P=0.12)0.03 (P=0.81)
Conclusions: A mild to moderate correlation was observed between subjective and objective measurements of CIPN. As CIPN presents a diverse range of symptoms, better quantifying the subjective and objective measures of CIPN can help incorporate these tools in observational and intervention trials. Understanding the correlation between PRO and QST can help establish QST as a reliable objective measurement of CIPN symptoms, and enable targeted interventions to alleviate CIPN symptoms.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a small subset of tumor cells with stem cell properties that drive tumor initiation, treatment resistance, and metastasis, thereby leading to rapid disease relapse. However, no cancer stem cell specific treatments are currently available in the clinic. Thus, there is a need to identify novel cancer stem cell-specific molecular targets.
LBH (Limb-Bud and Heart), is a poorly characterized transcription co-factor in the WNT pathway, a signaling network that is key to normal stem cell control and cancer stem cell transformation. We previously identified LBH as a basal mammary stem cell specific marker critically required for stem cell self-renewal and maintenance during normal mammary gland development. Significantly, LBH is also abnormally over-expressed specifically in worst prognosis basal-like breast cancers, a treatment-resistant breast cancer subtype that is enriched in cancer stem cells. Moreover, high inter-tumor LBH expression levels correlate with reduced metastasis-free patient survival and increased chemo-resistance. However, the role of LBH in breast carcinogenesis is not known.
Results: To identify the potential role of LBH in breast carcinogenesis, we abrogated LBH expression in breast cancer cell lines with high CSC populations (HCC1395, MDA-MB-231) using shRNA and CRISPR/Cas technologies. Conversely, we stably introduced LBH into more differentiated breast cancer cell lines with low CSC populations (MCF7, BT549). We found that LBH depletion significantly reduced, while LBH overexpression increased in vitro tumor sphere formation and clonogenic ability, suggesting LBH promotes a CSC phenotype. Modulation of LBH expression did not change proliferation rates, indicating the CSC promoting effects of LBH were not due to increased cell proliferation. However, LBH reduced apoptosis rates and increased tumor cell survival. Importantly, loss of LBH markedly decreased in vivo tumor initiation and metastatic potential of triple negative breast cancer cells, which are important functions of CSC. The underlying mechanisms will be discussed.
Conclusions: Collectively our results suggest that LBH is required for breast CSC self-renewal and maintenance. Thus, LBH inhibition may have value for future CSC-targeted anti-cancer therapy.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the overall asthma control level in urban China. Methods: A multi-center, cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was carried out in 30 provinces in China (except Tibet). Asthmatic outpatients who met the inclusion criteria were recruited consecutively from 30 sub-centers from October 2015 to May 2016. Data of demographic characteristics, asthma control, asthma management, asthma exacerbations and self-management, and disease perception were collected by face-to-face interviews. Results: Totally 3 875 asthmatic outpatients were recruited. Asthma control level was assessed according to GINA 2015. The prevalence of asthma control was 28.5%(1 099/3 854). Among 10 cities, which were also involved in the asthma control survey in 2008, the level of asthma control improved from 28.7% in 2008 to 39.2%(533/1 361) in 2016. The rate of hospitalizations due to asthma exacerbations was 26.4%(1 017/3 858) and the rate of emergency visits was 22.4%(864/3 858). Among adult patients, 18.4%(568/3 092) of them had been absent from work while 63.6%(63/99) adolescent patients had been absent from school because of asthma attacks in the previous year. Conclusion: Although the level of asthma control in China is still far from ideal at present, the status has been improved in some cities. Poorly controlled asthma resulted in increase of hospitalizations, emergency department visits and work/school absences.

Abstract
Objective: To study the characteristics of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 teaching hospitals in China and to evaluate the hospitalization costs of these patients. Methods: This was a retrospective study and involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout China during 2013-2014. Information about the demographic features, conditions before the admission, the outcome, the complications, and the costs was collected using the pre-designed case report form. The influencing factors of the hospitalization costs were analyzed. Results: 3 240 asthmatic patients (1 369 males and 1 871 females) were included and data were analyzed. There were 41.5% (1 346/3 240) patients who had a history of previous hospitalization or emergency department visits during the last year. Only 28.0% (907/3 240) patients had used asthma-controlling medications regularly before the admission. Seventy-three(2.3%) patients were admitted to ICU and used mechanical ventilation. Mortality among these patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was 0.25% (8/3 240). The median hospitalization costs was 9 045(6 431, 13 035) RMB. The costs of medications, examinations and treatment accounted for 52.1%, 27.6%, and 9.6% respectively. The costs of asthma medications accounted for only 22.7% of the total medication costs, while the costs of antibiotics accounted for 44.0%. The patients who were admitted to ICU, used mechanical ventilation, complicated with pneumonia, or had a history of hospitalization or emergency department visits during the last year due to asthma exacerbations tended to cost more. Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrated that only a minority of the patients had used asthma controllers regularly before the admissions with exacerbations. The in-hospital mortality of asthma patients in this study was much lower than that reported in other countries. The average cost of hospitalization was much higher than the yearly cost of maintenance therapy. Medication was the predominant component of the total hospitalization costs, and the costs of antibiotics made up the major part of the total medication costs.

Abstract
The CRISPR/Cas9 system is a powerful tool for the treatment of infectious diseases. In our previous study, we knocked out the Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) key genes and BmNPV-dependent host factor to generate transgenic antiviral strains. To further expand the range of target genes for BmNPV and more effectively prevent and control pathogenic infections, we performed gene editing and antiviral analysis by constructing a target-directed baculovirus early transcriptional activator immediate early-0 (ie-0) and 2 (ie-2) transgenic silkworm line. We hybridized it with Cas9 transgenic line to produce a double-positive transgenic Cas9(+)/sgIE0-sgIE2(+) line that could activate the CRISPR gene editing system. We first demonstrated that the system is capable of efficiently editing target genes and resulting in fragment deletions in the BmNPV genome. Survival rate of the transgenic Cas9(+)/sgIE0-sgIE2(+) line reached 65% after inoculation with 1 × 106 occlusion bodies/larva. Molecular analysis showed that BmNPV DNA replication and viral gene expression level in the transgenic Cas9(+)/sgIE0-sgIE2(+) line were significantly inhibited compared with the control Cas9(-)/sgIE0-sgIE2(-) line. These results indicated that IE-0 and IE-2, as baculovirus early transcriptional activators, can be used as target sites for gene therapy and that multigene editing could expand the range of target sites for research to create silkworm resistance breeds.

Abstract
Objective In this study we investigated the effect of dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH) neuropeptide Y (NPY) knock-down on hepatic insulin sensitivity in high-fat (HF) diet-fed rats. Methods Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to receive bilateral DMH injections of adeno-associated virus AAVshNPY or AAVshCTL and then accessed to regular chow. Five weeks after viral injection, half rats in each group were given access to the HF diet. At 16 weeks, rat livers were collected. Insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1) and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) mRNA expression was measured by qRT-PCR. Blood glucose levels were measured by the oxidase method, serum insulin, triglyceride, and TC levels were measured by Elisa. Pathological changes in the liver were assessed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. AKT, p-AKT, and GSK-3 levels were measured by western blotting. Results Compared with AAVshCTL-injected rats, AAVshNPY-injected rats showed a significant decrease in blood glucose concentrations; serum insulin, triglyceride, and TC; HOMA-IR; and IRS-1 and PI3K mRNA levels (P<0.05). ISI, GSK-3, and p-AKT levels were significantly increased (P<0.05). HE staining showed that AAVshNPY-injected rats fed the HF diet had mild fatty degeneration. Conclusion These results suggest that DMH NPY knock-down improves hepatic insulin sensitivity in HF diet-fed rats by activating the hepatic PI3K/AKT insulin signalling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Several clinical trials have demonstrated that dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) benefited patients with transient ischaemic attack (TIA) with an ABCD2 score ≥4. The present study aimed to investigate whether the ABCD3-I score could be a more appropriate tool for selection of patients with TIA to receive DAPT in real-world settings. METHODS We derived data from the TIA database of The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. The predictive outcome was ischaemic stroke at 90 days. The additive interaction effect was presented by the attributable proportion due to interaction. Kaplan-Meier curves were plotted to present cumulative stroke rates in different risk categories with monotherapy and DAPT. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to determine risk factors associated with stroke. RESULTS Among 785 patients, the mean (SD) age was 56.95 (12.73) years and 77 patients (9.8%) had an ischaemic stroke at 90 days. A total of 55.8% of patients (attributable proportion due to interaction; 95% confidence interval, 20.8%-90.9%) were attributed to additive interaction of ABCD3-I score and antiplatelet therapy. Kaplan-Meier curves showed a significant difference between patients receiving monotherapy and DAPT in high-risk patients with TIA (P = 0.021). DAPT reduced 90-day stroke risk in high-risk patients with TIA as assessed independently by ABCD3-I score (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.43; 95% confidence interval, 0.20-0.92, P = 0.031). The benefit did not exist in low- and medium-risk patients by ABCD3-I score (patients with ABCD2 score ≥ 4 or <4). CONCLUSIONS High-risk patients with TIA assessed by ABCD3-I score received the most pronounced clinical benefit from early use of DAPT in real-world clinical experience.

Abstract
Objective: To study the treatment of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in China. Methods: This was a retrospective study and involved patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in 29 hospitals throughout China during Jan 2013 to Dec 2014. Information of the demographic features, the severity of the exacerbation, the medicine prescribed during the hospitalization and the use of mechanical ventilation were collected and analyzed. Results: During the study period, there were 3 240 patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation, and 1 369(42.3%) of them were males 1 871(57.7%)were females. Patients of mild, moderate, severe, and life-threatening exacerbation counted for 41.7%, 37.8%, 19.2% and 1.0%, respectively of the total patients. Of all the patients, 72.6% used bronchodilators by nebulizer, 70.8% used inhaled corticosteroids by nebulizer, 60.5% used intravenous corticosteroids, 17.3% used oral corticosteroids, and 80.5% used antibiotics. The percentages of patients using systemic corticosteroids and antibiotics were higher in patients with more severe exacerbation. In patients with mild exacerbation, there were 74.9% and 52.2% who used antibiotics and systemic corticosteroids, respectively. A total of 73 patients (2.3%) used mechanical ventilation, and 62 of them used noninvasive ventilation, 16 used invasive ventilation, and 5 used both. Conclusions: Nebulizer therapy has been accepted as the main administration route of medicine in the treatment of asthma exacerbation. A large amount of patients used antibiotics and systemic corticosteroids during hospitalization, indicating there may be some overuse of these medicines.

Abstract
Objective: In order to evaluate disease perception of asthma patients in urban China and provide evidence for further specific patient education. Methods: A multi-center, cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was carried out in 30 general hospitals dispersed in 30 provinces of mainland China (except for Tibet) during Oct 2015 to May 2016. Information of disease perception [Question 1: the disease nature of asthma; Question 2: medication choice of first-line in chronic asthma; Question 3: the occasion of using short-acting aerosols of receptor agonists; Question 4: perception of asthma treatment goal; Question 5: reason for not using peak flow meter (PFM)] were collected from asthma patients of outpatient department. These results were compared with the same type of survey results from 2007-2008. Results: Altogether 3 875 asthmatic outpatients were recruited. 69.0% (2 660/3 857) of the patients had right perception on the disease nature of asthma, 60.2% (2 321/3 857) of the patients considered inhaled corticosteroids (ICS)/inhaled corticosteroids plus long-acting beta2-agonists (ICS+ LABA) as daily-used first-line medication for chronic asthma. 85.7% (3 277/3 823) of the patients had right perception on the condition of using short-acting beta2-agonists (SABA). 75.4% (2 761/3 661) of the patients had right perception on asthma treatment goal. Only 10.1% (388/3 837) of the patients used PFM. Of the reasons for not using PFM, 65.2% (2 518/3 860) of the patients chose doctors never introduced. Among the 10 cities, which were also involved in the asthma control survey in 2007-2008, 71.1% (968/1 361) of the patients had right perception on the disease nature of asthma, 61.6% (839/1 362) of the patients considered ICS/ICS+ LABA as daily-used first-line medication for chronic asthma. 88.7% (1 207/1 361) of the patients had right perception on the condition of using SABA. 74.5% (1 013/1 360) of the patients had right perception on asthma treatment goal. 17.9% (244/1 360) of the patients used PFM. Of the reasons for not using PFM, 76.2% (931/1 221) of the patients chose doctors never introduced. Compared to the survey conducted in 2007-2008, the perception on disease nature and medication choice as daily-used first-line medication for chronic asthma significantly improved, the perception on occasion of using SABA and asthma treatment goal was comparable, while the rate of PFM usage showed no significant improvement. In reasons of not using PFM, doctors never introduced ranked the first. Conclusions: Compared to the similar survey conducted in 2007-2008, the overall status of disease perception of asthma patients has been improved in urban China, while the rate of PFM usage showed no significant improvement. Asthma education on asthma and asthma self-management should be further pushed forward.

Abstract
Objective: To study the mortality and death-related risk factors of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation in Chinese urban areas. Methods: A retrospective study was carried out in 29 hospitals of 29 provinces throughout mainland China. Patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation during 2013-2014 in each hospital were included. For each patient, information about demography, admission time, comorbidities, severity of diseases, intense care unit (ICU) admission, use of mechanical ventilation and the outcome was obtained. The mortality of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was calculated, and the basic information and causes of death of the patients who died were summarized. The death-related risk factors and numbers of comorbidities were compared between the patients who survived and those who died during hospitalization. Results: A total of 3 240 patients (median age 57.0) were included and among them 8 patients (median age 68.5) died. The mortality of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation was 0.25%. All the patients who died were admitted during the winter and spring. One patient died of acute myocardial infarction, one of cardiac shock, one of tension pneumothorax, one of sudden death, one of respiratory failure and three of unknown causes. The average number of comorbidities of patients who died was 1.10, larger than that of patients who survived (0.83) (P>0.05). More patients had diabetes, coronary artery diseases and hypertension as comorbidities in the patients who died (2/8) than those who survived[7.6% (246/3 232), 7.6% (246/3 232), 22.6% (731/3 232), respectively](all P>0.05). Conclusions: The in-hospital mortality of patients hospitalized for asthma exacerbation of China in this study is low. The patients who died are much older, and with more comorbidities, and a higher percentage of comorbidities such as diabetes, coronary artery diseases, and hypertension.

Abstract
The change and fixation of dressing are difficult in patients with burn in special sites of perineum, buttocks, and bilateral thighs. Therefore, we designed and made stretch pants by ourselves for dressing fixation after dressing change in patients with burns in abdomen, buttocks, and bilateral thighs. The stretch pants are made by cutting and splicing elastic fabric according to perimeters of abdomen and legs. The stretch pants are used after wound dressing change, which can fix the dressing stably, accelerate wound healing, and reduce the medical workers' labor intensity of dressing change and economic burden of patients. And patients can walk out of bed early. It's especially suitable for dressing fixation of infants and other patients who are unwilling to cooperate. Besides, it's easy to make with low cost and suitable for clinical promotion.

Abstract
Single layers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are excellent candidates for electronic applications beyond the graphene platform; many of them exhibit novel properties including charge density waves (CDWs) and magnetic ordering. CDWs in these single layers are generally a planar projection of the corresponding bulk CDWs because of the quasi-two-dimensional nature of TMDCs; a different CDW symmetry is unexpected. We report herein the successful creation of pristine single-layer VSe_{2}, which shows a (sqrt[7]×sqrt[3]) CDW in contrast to the (4×4) CDW for the layers in bulk VSe_{2}. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy from the single layer shows a sizable (sqrt[7]×sqrt[3]) CDW gap of ∼100 meV at the zone boundary, a 220 K CDW transition temperature twice the bulk value, and no ferromagnetic exchange splitting as predicted by theory. This robust CDW with an exotic broken symmetry as the ground state is explained via a first-principles analysis. The results illustrate a unique CDW phenomenon in the two-dimensional limit.

Abstract
Low conductivity and structural degradation of LiMn2O4 lead to poor power capability and severe capacity fading of hybrid aqueous Zn/LiMn2O4 battery. Here, we propose an effective strategy by tuning the microstructures of graphene to optimize its electrical and interfacial properties and electrode dynamics of LiMn2O4/graphene cathodes, which successfully prompt significant improvements in electrical conductivity and structural stability, thus essentially leading to a promising electrochemical performance. More importantly, it reveals different electrochemical properties prompted by different conductivity, which mainly depends on the microstructures of graphene. This dependence is due to the influence of electronic channels and conductive paths on the conductivity of LiMn2O4/graphene electrodes. A well-designed mesoporous graphene composed of about two graphene-layers exhibits an excellent high-rate performance; even after 300 cycles, a highly reversible capacity of 75 mAh g-1 is retained at 4C rate. The results of this study suggest that the structural tuning of electronic channels of graphene can be used as an effective means to improve the performance of LiMn2O4 cathodes in hybrid aqueous batteries.

Abstract
We report on an upward traveling, radio-detected cosmic-ray-like impulsive event with characteristics closely matching an extensive air shower. This event, observed in the third flight of the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA), a NASA-sponsored long-duration balloon payload, is consistent with a similar event reported in a previous flight. These events could be produced by the atmospheric decay of an upward-propagating τ lepton produced by a ν_{τ} interaction, although their relatively steep arrival angles create tension with the standard model neutrino cross section. Each of the two events have a posteriori background estimates of ≲10^{-2} events. If these are generated by τ-lepton decay, then either the charged-current ν_{τ} cross section is suppressed at EeV energies, or the events arise at moments when the peak flux of a transient neutrino source was much larger than the typical expected cosmogenic background neutrinos.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Dishevelled-Axin (DIX) domain containing 1 (DIXDC1), a novel DIX domain-containing protein and a positive regulator of Wingless (Wnt) signaling, has previously been reported to play multiple roles in neurodevelopment and neurological disorders. However, whether DIXDC1 plays a role during cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the potential role of DIXDC1 in neuronal injury induced by oxygen-glucose deprivation and reoxygenation (OGD/R), an in vitro model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Neuronal injury was induced by OGD/R treatment. Relative mRNA expression of DIXDC1 was detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Protein expression of DIXDC1 and β-catenin was determined by Western blot. Cell viability was examined by the cell counting kit-8 assay. Cell cytotoxicity was detected by the lactate dehydrogenase assay. Cell apoptosis was detected by the caspase-3 activity assay. The activity of Wnt/β-catenin signaling was detected by the luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS TWe found that DIXDC1 expression was significantly upregulated in hippocampal neurons following OGD/R treatment. Small interfering RNA-mediated silencing of DIXDC1 significantly impaired viability and promoted cell injury and apoptosis in neurons with OGD/R treatment. In contrast, overexpression of DIXDC1 increased the viability and reduced cell injury and apoptosis in neurons with OGD/R treatment, showing protective effects against OGD/R injury. Furthermore, our results showed that DIXDC1 promoted the expression of β-catenin and activation of Wnt signaling. Notably, inhibition of Wnt signaling significantly abrogated DIXDC-mediated neuroprotective effects. CONCLUSIONS Our results demonstrate that DIXDC1 prevents OGD/R-induced neuronal injury by promoting Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Our study indicates that DIXDC1 may play an important role in cerebral ischemia and reperfusion serving as a potential target for the treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Abstract
Background and aims Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is highly prevalent and its underlying pathogenesis involves dyslipidemia including pro-atherogenic high density lipoprotein (HDL) remodeling. Vitamins C and E have been proposed as atheroprotective agents for cardiovascular disease management. However, their effects and benefits on high density lipoprotein function and remodeling are unknown. In this study, we evaluated the role of vitamin C and E on non HDL lipoproteins as well as HDL function and remodeling, along with their effects on inflammation/oxidation biomarkers and atherosclerosis in atherogenic diet-fed SR-B1 KO/ApoER61h/h mice. Methods and results Mice were pre-treated for 5 weeks before and during atherogenic diet feeding with vitamin C and E added to water and diet, respectively. Compared to a control group, combined vitamin C and E administration reduced serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels by decreasing apo B-48-containing lipoproteins, remodeled HDL particles by reducing phospholipid as well as increasing PON1 and apo D content, and diminished PLTP activity and levels. Vitamin supplementation improved HDL antioxidant function and lowered serum TNF-α levels. Vitamin C and E combination attenuated atherogenesis and increased lifespan in atherogenic diet-fed SR-B1 KO/ApoER61h/h mice. Conclusions Vitamin C and E administration showed significant lipid metabolism regulating effects, including HDL remodeling and decreased levels of apoB-containing lipoproteins, in mice. In addition, this vitamin supplementation generated a cardioprotective effect in a murine model of severe and lethal atherosclerotic ischemic heart disease.

Abstract
Despite the great progress in the field of drug delivery systems for cancer treatment over the last decade, many challenges still lie ahead, such as low drug loading, deep penetration of tumors, side effects, and the development of drug resistance. A class of cationic membrane lytic peptides has shown potential as an anticancer agent by inducing cancer cell death via membrane disruption; meanwhile, their intrinsic selectivity renders them as having low cytotoxicity towards noncancerous cells. Here, we report the use of a cationic peptide amphiphile (PA), named PAH6, to load doxorubicin (Dox) that is intercalated in an ATP-binding aptamer-incorporated DNA scaffold. The PA contains a cationic lytic sequence, (KLAKLAK)₂, a polyhistidine segment for the "proton sponge" effect, and a hydrophobic alkyl tail to drive the self-assembly. Dox-loaded DNA was found to form a spherical nanocomplex (NC) with PAH6 with particle sizes below 100 nm at various ratios. Since the carrier PAH6 is also a therapeutic agent, the drug loadings of the NC reached up to ~86% within the ratios we tested, and Dox was released from the NC in an ATP-rich environment. In vitro studies indicate that the presence of PAH6 could permeabilize cell membranes and kill cells through fast membrane disruption and depolarization of mitochondrial membranes. The cytotoxicity tests were conducted using A549 nonsmall cell lung cancer cells and NIH-3T3 fibroblast cells. PAH6 showed selectivity towards A549 cells. Significantly, the Dox-DNA/PAH6 NC exhibited a synergistic effect against A549 cells, with the IC50 decreased up to ~90% for Dox and ~69% for PAH6 when compared to the IC50 values of the two components, respectively. Furthermore, the selectivity of PAH6 conferred to the complex an improved therapeutic index between A549 and NIH-3T3 cells. A 3D-cultured A549 spheroid model was adopted to test the capability of Dox-DNA/PAH6 for tumor penetration. The PAH6 or Dox-DNA/PAH6 complex was found to break the spheroids into pieces, while Dox-treated spheroids maintained their shapes. In summary, this work provides a new strategy for constructing nanomedicines using therapeutic agents to meet the features required by anticancer treatment.

Abstract
Aqueous lithium energy storage systems (ALESSs) offer several advantages over the commercially available nonaqueous systems, and the most noteworthy is that ALESSs have higher ionic conductivity, can be used safely, and are environmental-friendly in nature. The ALESS, however, exhibits faster capacity fading than their nonaqueous counterparts after repeated cycles of charge and discharge, thus limiting their wide-range applications. Excessive corrosion of metallic anodes in the aqueous electrolyte and accelerated growth of dendrites during the charge-discharge process are found to be the main reasons that severely impact the life span of ALESSs. Here, we introduce ultrathin graphene films as an artificial solid electrolyte interface (G-SEI) on the surface of a zinc anode to improve the cycling stability of an aqueous lithium battery system. The G-SEI is fabricated at different thicknesses and areas ranging from ∼1 to 100 nm and ∼1 to 10 cm2, respectively, via a Langmuir-Blodgett trough method and deposited onto the surface of the zinc anode. Electrochemical characterizations show a significant reduction in corrosion current density (0.033 mA cm-2 vs 1.046 mA cm-2 for the control), suppression of dendritic growth (∼50%), and reduction in charge-transfer resistance (222 Ω vs 563 Ω for the control) when the G-SEI is utilized. The aqueous battery system with the G-SEI (100 nm thickness) on the anode exhibits ∼17% improvement in cycling stability (82% capacity retention after 300 cycles) compared to the control system. Comprehensive microscopy and spectroscopy characterizations reveal that the G-SEI not only controls the ion transport between the electrolyte and the anode surface (lower corrosion) but also promotes a uniform deposition (less dendritic growth) of zinc on the anode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of periodontitis on the development of kidney damage in obese mice and its possible mechanism. METHODS C57 BL/6J mice were fed high‑fat (HF) or low‑fat (LF) diet and then divided into four groups: obesity with periodontitis (HFP), obesity without periodontitis (HFC), normal mice with periodontitis (LFP) and normal mice without periodontitis (LFC). Serum indicators of renal function, namely serum total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen (UREA) were measured. The histopathological examination of kidney tissues was performed. The expressions of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP1) were detected by immunohistochemistry and real time RT-PCR. RESULTS Obesity decreased TP and ALB, and increased serum Cr and UREA levels in normal and periodontitis mice groups, as well as induced glomerular and tubulointerstitial pathologic changes. Tubulointerstitial fibrosis was more severe in HFP group. In obese mice, periodontitis caused the downregulation of MMP2, and upregulation of TIMP1 and TGF-β1 at transcriptional and translational levels. CONCLUSIONS In obese mice, periodontitis may aggravate pathological changes in the kidney. The possible mechanism might lie in downregulation of MMP2 and upregulation of MMP inhibitor, TIMP1, and TGF-β1 (Tab. 1, Fig. 4, Ref. 16).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous studies have shown that BC029135, a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) with high conservation, was decreased with high fold change in colorectal cancer (CRC) by using microarray assay. In the present work, we investigated the functions of BC029135 in CRC, as well as the potential mechanisms underlying the malignant phenotype caused by loss of BC029135. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bioinformatics analysis of lncRNA BC029135 was performed to identify the potential function. The cell lines of HCT-116, SW480, SW620, LoVo, SW1116, and HT29 were used in this study. The mRNA expression of BC029135 and β-actinin was measured by Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). Western blot analysis was used to determine protein expression of β-actinin, MMP-2, cyclin D1, and c-Myc. RESULTS Our research showed that the expression of BC029135 in CRC tissues and cell lines was significantly lower than in adjacent normal tissues. In addition, overexpression of lncRNA BC029135 could inhibit the invasion of CRC cells. We also found that lncRNA BC029135 inhibits Wnt/β-catenin signaling in CRC cell lines. CONCLUSIONS We suggest that up-regulation of BC029135 suppresses CRC invasion and inactivates Wnt/β-catenin signaling. It will provide new insights for the treatment of colorectal cancer and new clues for clinical treatment.
