Abstract
Inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with a C60 framework are known for their common drawback of low power conversion efficiency (PCE) of <20% because of nonradiative recombination and inefficient charge transport at their perovskite interfaces. Here, we report an ultrathin [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) as a cap layer on perovskite films to overcome this issue. Such a functional cap layer efficiently passivates trap states and establishes a gradient energy level alignment onto perovskite, facilitating the efficient charge transfer and extraction. The as-fabricated inverted PSCs capped with such ultrathin PCBM exhibit a record PCE of 20.07%. After the storage under a N2 atmosphere for more than 500 h, the PCE of PSCs retains over 85% of its initial level. Our work provides an effective method to upgrade inverted PSCs with the C60 framework with improved efficiency and stability.

Abstract
Nanodiamonds represent an attractive potential carrier for anticancer drugs. The main advantages of nanodiamond particles with respect to medical applications are their high compatibility with non-cancerous cells, feasible surface decoration with therapeutic and cancer-cell targeting molecules, and their relatively low manufacturing cost. Additionally, nanodiamond carriers significantly increase treatment efficacy of the loaded drug, so anticancer drugs execute more effectively at a lower dose. Subsequently, lower drug dose results in less extensive side effects. The carriers decorated with a targeting molecule accumulate primarily in the tumor tissue, and those nanodiamond particles impair efflux of the drug from cancer cells. Therapeutic approaches considering nanodiamond carriers were already tested in vitro, as well as in vivo. Now, researchers focus particularly on the possible side effects of nanodiamond carriers applied systemically in vivo. The behavior of nanodiamond carriers depends heavily on their surface coatings, so each therapeutic complex must be evaluated separately. Generally, it seems that site-specific application of nanodiamond carriers is a rather safe therapeutic approach, but intravenous application needs further study. The benefits of nanodiamond carriers are remarkable and represent a potent approach to overcome the drug resistance of many cancers.

Abstract
High-efficiency hole transport layer free perovskite solar cells (HTL-free PSCs) with economical and simplified device structure can greatly facilitate the commercialization of PSCs. However, eliminating the key HTL in PSCs results usually in a severe efficiency loss and poor carrier transfer due to the energy-level mismatching at the indium tin oxide (ITO)/perovskite interface. In this study, we solve this issue by introducing an organic monomolecular layer (ML) to raise the effective work function of ITO with the assistance of an interface dipole created by Sn-N bonds. The energy-level alignment at the ITO/perovskite interface is optimized with a barrier-free contact, which favors efficient charge transfer and suppressed nonradiative carrier recombination. The HTL-free PSCs based on the ML-modified ITO yield an efficiency of 19.4%, much higher than those of HTL-free PSCs on bare ITO (10.26%), comparable to state-of-the-art PSCs with a HTL. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the mechanism of interfacial energy-level alignment and facilitates the design of advanced interfacial materials for simplified and efficient PSC devices.

Abstract
Two heteropolytungstate structures, Keggin (H3PW12O40) and Preyssler (H14[NaP5W30O110]), were used to synthesize conductive silver nanoparticle–polyaniline–heteropolytungstate (AgNPs–PAni–HPW) nanocomposites. During the oxidative polymerization of aniline, heteropolyblue was generated and served as the reducing agent to stabilize and distribute AgNPs within “PAni–Keggin” and “PAni–Preyssler” matrixes as well as on their surfaces. The prepared nanocomposites and AgNPs were characterized using UV-visible (UV-Vis) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), pore size distribution BET, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). UV-Vis results showed different stages of the formation of metal NPs embedded in the polymer–HPW composites, and FT-IR spectra presented characteristic bands of PAni, Keggin and Preyssler anions in the composites confirming no changes in their structures. The presence of AgNPs and an intensely crystalline matrix were confirmed by the XRD pattern. The BET surface areas were found to be 38.426 m2 g−1 for “AgNPs–PAni–Keggin” and 29.977 m2 g−1 for “AgNPs–PAni–Preyssler” nanocomposites with broad distributions of meso-porous structure for both nanocomposites. TEM and SEM images confirmed that the type of heteropolyacids affected the size of AgNPs. This is the first report that uses Keggin and Preyssler-type heteropolytungstate to synthesize “AgNPs–PAni–HPW” nanocomposites in an ambient condition through a low-cost, facile, one-pot, environmentally friendly and simultaneous in situ oxidative polymerization protocol. Two heteropolytungstate structures, (a) Keggin (H3PW12O40) and (b) Preyssler (H14(NaP5W30O110]), have been used to synthesize conductive silver nanoparticle–polyaniline–heteropolytungstate, (AgNPs–PAni–HPW) nanocomposites.![]()

Abstract
An effective strategy to inhibit endocytosis in cancer cells is presented where modified net-type graphene oxide (GO) sheets, bound with multiple cell surface receptors, are introduced and synthesized as novel anticancer agents. The results suggest that the binding connects GO sheets with neighboring lipid rafts, neutralizes endocytosis, and causes metabolic deprivation. As a result, tumor cell survival and proliferation are reduced. Live cell confocal microscopy imaging reveals that GO-PEGFA (folate-PEGylated GO) (PEG, polyethylene glycol) is internalized by tumor cells, while GO-PEGRGD (tripeptide Arg-Gly-Asp PEGylated GO) associates with the external cell membrane (not internalized). In vitro exposure of tumor cells to GO-PEGFA or GO-PEGRGD reduces the cell viability by 35%, compared to 50% reduction using methotrexate (100 μM). The combination of modified GO sheets with methotrexate or doxorubicin shows a greater toxicity (80% reduction in cell viability) than the individual agents. The proposed setup demonstrates a significant synergy in limiting tumor cell growth.

Abstract
Hierarchical nanostructures are ideal architectures to harvest solar energy. The understanding of light absorption in single hierarchical structures is emergently important and greatly helpful in enhancing multiscale optical phenomena and light management. However, due to the geometrical complexity of hierarchical architectures, theoretical and experimental studies of light absorption have faced significant challenges. Here, we directly quantify light absorption in single hierarchical structures for the first time by utilizing VO2-based near field powermeter. It is found that light trapping is significantly enhanced in rough microwires when the roughness amplitude is comparable to the incident light wavelength. The roughness enhanced light absorption is verified as a general phenomenon on both VO2 and Si hierarchical structures. Therefore, our work not only provides a simple and quantitative method of measuring light absorption upon single geometrically complex structures in micro/nanoscale, but also contributes a general rule to rationally design of hierarchical structures for enhanced performance in photoelectric and photochemical applications.
