Abstract
Background Recently, it was reported in healthy young subjects that fructose containing drinks increased blood pressure acutely, without any apparent change in total vascular conductance (TVC). However, because it is well known that the splanchnic vasculature is dilated by oral fructose ingestion, it is assumed to be the concomitant vasoconstriction in other peripheral region(s) that is responsible for this finding. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the acute response of regional VC to oral fructose ingestion in young healthy humans. Results In 12 healthy young subjects, mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), heart rate, cardiac output, and blood flow (BF) in the superior mesenteric (SMA), brachial (BA), and popliteal (PA) arteries, in addition to forearm skin BF, were measured continuously for 2 h after ingestion of 400 ml fructose solution (containing 50 g fructose). Regional VC was calculated as BF/MAP. MAP increased for 120 min after fructose ingestion without any change in TVC. While VC in the SMA was elevated after ingestion, VC in BA and PA and forearm skin decreased. Conclusions While TVC was apparently unchanged during the 2 h after fructose ingestion, there were coincident changes in regional VCs in the peripheral circulation, but no net change in TVC.

Abstract
Perovskite-type structures (ABO3) have received significant attention because of their crystallographic aspects and physical properties, but there has been no clear evidence of a superconductor with a double-perovskite-type structure, whose different elements occupy A and/or B sites in ordered ways. In this report, hydrothermal synthesis at 220 °C produced a new superconductor with an A-site-ordered double perovskite structure, (Na(0.25)K(0.45))(Ba(1.00))3(Bi(1.00))4O12, with a maximum T(c) of about 27 K.

Abstract
A new magnetospheric energy principle is developed for spherically symmetric monopolar magnetospheres with open straight field lines. The principle is based on the self-adjointness of the force operator, which ensures energy conservation in the unperturbed magnetospheric plasma volume. A Neuman-type boundary condition for the perpendicular displacement at the ionosphere yields a negative contribution to the potential energy variation. This contribution makes high-mode-number incompressible field-line-bending modes unstable owing to the plasma displacement over the spherical ionospheric surface.

Abstract
Background Post-exercise hypotension (PEH) following prolonged dynamic exercise arises from increased total vascular conductance (TVC) via skeletal muscle vasodilation. However, arterial vasodilation of skeletal musculatures does not entirely account for the rise in TVC. The aim of the present study was to determine the contribution of vascular conductance (VC) of the legs, arms, kidneys and viscera to TVC during PEH. Methods Eight subjects performed a single period of cycling at 60% of heart rate (HR) reserve for 60 minutes. Blood flow in the right renal, superior mesenteric, right brachial and right femoral arteries was measured by Doppler ultrasonography in a supine position before exercise and during recovery. HR and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were measured continuously. MAP decreased significantly from approximately 25 minutes after exercise cessation compared with pre-exercise baseline. TVC significantly increased (approximately 23%; P <0.05) after exercise compared with baseline, which resulted from increased VC in the leg (approximately 33%) and arm (approximately 20%), but not in the abdomen. Conclusion PEH was not induced by decreased cardiac output, but by increased TVC, two-thirds of the rise in which can be attributed to increased VC in active and inactive limbs.

Abstract
We investigated whether the elevated muscle temperature induced by the first bout influenced the VO2 response during a second-bout of heavy exercise. The control conditions were two consecutive 6-min leg cycling bouts (work rate: Δ50% between LT and VO2max) separated by a 6-min baseline at 20 W (L1-ex to L2-ex). In the experimental conditions prior to the main bout (H2-ex), the diathermic warming to the front thigh was substituted for the first-bout. The VO2 response for the second bout was significantly accelerated compared with the first bout (mean ± SD of the τ by monoexponential fitting: L1-ex: 53.8 ± 11.6, L2-ex: 38.7 ± 7.9 s, P < 0.05). The diathermic warm-up, however, could not accelerate VO2 response for subsequent supra-LT leg exercise (τ for H2-ex: 52.3 ± 7.7 s). It was concluded that the facilitation of [VO2 response during supra-LT exercise after prior heavy exercise does not seem to be caused by increased muscle temperature per se and its related factors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to elucidate the feasibility of gasless laparoscopically assisted myomectomy (LAM) using a wound retraction system. This method treats symptomatic uterine myomas by combining laparoscopy with a mini-laparotomy to enucleate myoma nodules and to close the uterine myometrium. METHODS This study includes 275 patients who underwent gasless LAM. For patients with fewer than three myoma nodules, the location of the largest nodule was classified as anterior, fundal, or posterior. The operative outcomes, intraoperative and postoperative courses, and complications were examined. RESULTS All operations were performed satisfactorily, and no conversions to laparotomy were required. None of the patients developed serious complications. The mean blood loss and operating time were 190.3 mL and 152.2 minutes, respectively. The mean myoma size was 8.9 cm, and the mean number of myomas per patient was 2.8. The average postoperative hospital stay was 5.7 days. There were no significant differences in resected myoma size, blood loss, and surgical duration with respect to the location of the largest nodule. CONCLUSION Gasless LAM with a wound retractor is feasible and allows surgeons to perform myomectomy safely and cost-effectively, without requiring advanced laparoscopic surgical skills and while maintaining minimum invasiveness.
